It's better not to hold your feelings inside too much and express them to a dear one freely, than to pay thousands of dollars to a psychiatrist for the same outburst of emotions later. Emotions are a bonding mechanism for humans. So, use 'em, abuse 'em and utilize 'em. ~ Abhijit Naskar
Psychiatrist quotes by Abhijit Naskar
Deleuze's findings are confirmed by those of an experienced woman psychiatrist who for many years has made a study of automatic writing. In conversation this lady has informed me that, sooner or later, most automatists produce scripts in which certain metaphysical ideas are set forth. The theme of these scripts is always the same: namely, the the ground of the individual soul is identical with the divine Ground of all being. Returning to their normal state, the automatists read what they have written and often find it in complete disharmony with what they have always believed. ~ Aldous Huxley
Psychiatrist quotes by Aldous Huxley
He didn't need a psychiatrist to point out that writing had its autoerotic side - you beat a typewriter instead of your meat, but both acts depended largely on quick wits, fast hands and a heartfelt commitment to the art of the farfetched. ~ Stephen King
Psychiatrist quotes by Stephen King
Are you going to tell me who she is?" she asked.
"A psychiatrist," Nick shot back.
"Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, it's about time," his mother replied. ~ Neal Baer
Psychiatrist quotes by Neal Baer
And if minor characters show an inclination to become major characters … you at least give them a shot at it, because … just as in the real world it may take you many years to find out that the stranger you talked to once for half an hour in the railroad station may have done more to point you to where your true homeland lies than your priest or your best friend or even your psychiatrist. ~ Anne Lamott
Psychiatrist quotes by Anne Lamott
Who's the subject?"
"The psychiatrist - Dr. Hannibal Lecter," Crawford said.
A brief silence follows the name, always, in any civilized gathering. ~ Thomas Harris
Psychiatrist quotes by Thomas Harris
This guy goes to a psychiatrist and says, Doc, my brother's crazy. He thinks he's a chicken. The doctor says, Well, why don't you turn him in? And the guy says, I would but I need the eggs. Well I guess that's pretty much how I feel about relationships. You know they're totally irrational and crazy and absurd but I guess we keep going through it because, uh, most of us need the eggs. ~ Woody Allen
Psychiatrist quotes by Woody Allen
I smile, now, thinking: we all like to think we are important enough to need psychiatrists ~ Sylvia Plath
Psychiatrist quotes by Sylvia Plath
We study humans to give them a healthier and happier life. ~ Abhijit Naskar
Psychiatrist quotes by Abhijit Naskar
Many of the benefits of CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy) can be obtained without going into therapy. There are a number of self-help books, CDs and computer programs that have been used to treat depression and some of these have been tested in clinical trials with positive results. I can particularly recommend these two books. One is 'Control Your Depression', the lead author of which is Peter Lewinsohn, a Professor of Psychology at the University of Oregon ... The other book that I can recommend with confidence is 'Feeling Good' by the psychiatrist David Burns. 'Control Your Depression' emphasizes behavioral techniques like increasing pleasant activities, improving social skills and learning to relax. 'Feeling Good' puts greater emphasis on changing the way people think about themselves. But both books include both cognitive and behavioral techniques. ~ Irving Kirsch
Psychiatrist quotes by Irving Kirsch
I just invite people to share a secret with me. It's not like I'm a psychiatrist who's going to react to it or a priest who's going to give you something to do. When you let it go, there's kind of this void and I think people like that. ~ Frank Warren
Psychiatrist quotes by Frank Warren
I'm a practicing psychiatrist and I think that I really believe in the advances of psychiatry. Our diagnoses are more precise. ~ Jonathan Michel Metzl
Psychiatrist quotes by Jonathan Michel Metzl
I had learned of Gertrude Stein's bon mot that medicine opened all doors. This prompted me, in different moods, to view my future life as literary psychiatrist, globe-trotting tropical disease specialist, or academic internist. ~ Harold E. Varmus
Psychiatrist quotes by Harold E. Varmus
I have seen one or two psychiatrists. They just sit and nod and doodle. ~ Steven Morrissey
Psychiatrist quotes by Steven Morrissey
You take the cards you're dealt. I'm now ferociously healthy in body and mind. You couldn't pay me to go near a psychiatrist again. Stopping seeing them was my first step to getting well. ~ Margot Kidder
Psychiatrist quotes by Margot Kidder
I definitely want to thank my doctor, Dr. Sandy, um, my psychiatrist, she really helped me relax a lot, thank you so much. ~ Metta World Peace
Psychiatrist quotes by Metta World Peace
I do not believe that a dog can be cured by a psychiatrist, but I think some owners could be helped by one. ~ Barbara Woodhouse
Psychiatrist quotes by Barbara Woodhouse
Much more plausible is the computer-based explanation that dreams are a spillover from the unconscious processing of the day's experience, from the brain's decision on how much of the daily events temporarily stored in a kind of buffer to emplace in long-term memory... The American psychiatrist Ernest Hartmann of Tufts University has provided
anecdotal but reasonably persuasive evidence that people who are engaged in intellectual activities during the day, especially unfamiliar intellectual activities, require more sleep at night, while, by and large, those engaged in mainly repetitive and intellectually unchallenging tasks are able to do with much less sleep. ~ Carl Sagan
Psychiatrist quotes by Carl Sagan
People may be constrained in two basic ways: physically, by confining them in jails, mental hospitals, and so forth; and symbolically, by confining them in occupations, social roles, and so forth. Actually, confinement of the second type is more common and pervasive in the day-to-day conduct of society's business; as a rule, only when the symbolic, or socially informal, confinement of conduct fails or proves inadequate, is recourse taken to physical, or socially formal, confinement…. When people perform their social roles properly – in other words, when social expectations are adequately met – their behavior is considered normal. Though obvious, this deserves emphasis: a waiter must wait on tables; a secretary must type; a father must earn a living; a mother must cook and sew and take care of her children. Classic systems of psychiatric nosology had nothing to say about these people, so long as they remained neatly imprisoned in their respective social cells; or, as we say about the Negroes, so long as they "knew their place." But when such persons broke out of "jail" and asserted their liberty, they became of interest to the psychiatrist. ~ Thomas Szasz
Psychiatrist quotes by Thomas Szasz
My father was a psychiatrist and a social worker but he was a very talented painter and musician and writer on the side. ~ Tunde Adebimpe
Psychiatrist quotes by Tunde Adebimpe
When you feel your life's too hard, just go have a talk with God. Well, he's the only free psychiatrist that's known throughout the world. ~ Stevie Wonder
Psychiatrist quotes by Stevie Wonder
Eric approached the octagonal nurses' station, and a blonde nurse
looked up from her computer monitor, smiled, and pointed to
examining room D. Everybody recognized the hospital shrinks
from the bright red W on their lanyard IDs. The W stood for
Wright, the wing that contained the locked psych unit, but the
staff teased that W stood for Wackos. He'd heard all the jokes
How do you tell the psychiatrists from the patients in the hospital?
The patients get better and leave. Eric told the best psychiatrist
jokes, though he never told the ones about psychiatrist's kids. He
didn't think those were funny. He lived those. ~ Lisa Scottoline
Psychiatrist quotes by Lisa Scottoline
A man goes to a psychiatrist. "Nobody listens to me!" The doctor says, "Next!" ~ Henny Youngman
Psychiatrist quotes by Henny Youngman
The truth is, you cannot love yourself unless you have been loved and are loved. The capacity to love cannot be built in isolation. ~ Bruce D. Perry
Psychiatrist quotes by Bruce D. Perry
According to my parents, I was supposed to have been a nice, churchgoing Swiss housewife. Instead I ended up an opinionated psychiatrist, author and lecturer in the American Southwest, who communicates with spirits from a world that I believe is far more loving and glorious than our own. ~ Elisabeth Kubler Ross
Psychiatrist quotes by Elisabeth Kubler Ross
My psychiatrist diagnosed me a Hypochondriac. I said, "Okay, can you prescribe me a placebo?"

"Not for Type-2 Hypochondriacs," he said. Your types would just fake faking. Then we'd have a real problem. ~ Brian Spellman
Psychiatrist quotes by Brian Spellman
I like understanding what's underneath, what's really motivating people. When I was younger, I wanted to be a psychiatrist, so I think it has to do with that. ~ Michelle Pfeiffer
Psychiatrist quotes by Michelle Pfeiffer
Depressed people think they know themselves, but maybe they only know depression. ~ Mark Epstein
Psychiatrist quotes by Mark Epstein
If I went to a psychiatrist, it would be a long session. I've always thought that I do have a number of issues that probably need dealing with, because I am quite odd in some ways. ~ Simon Cowell
Psychiatrist quotes by Simon Cowell
A psychiatrist does not want you to wake up. He tells you to dream some more, to find the pond and pour more tears into it. And really, he's just another bird drinking from your misery. ~ Amy Tan
Psychiatrist quotes by Amy Tan
As we acquire new aches and new pains, our health care is, of necessity, being supplied by internists, cardiologists, dermatologists, podiatrists, urologists, periodontists, gynecologists and psychiatrists, from all of whom we want a second opinion. We want a second opinion that says, don't worry, you are going to live forever. ~ Judith Viorst
Psychiatrist quotes by Judith Viorst
It is the assumption of this book that there is a typical human nature. It is the aim of this book to seek it. Just like a surgeon, a psychiatrist can make all sorts of basic assumptions when a patient lies down upon the couch. He can assume that the patient knows what it means to love, to envy, to trust, to think, to speak, to fear, to smile, to bargain, to covet, to dream, to remember, to sing, to quarrel, to lie. The 'smile' of a baboon is a threat; the smile of a man is a sign of pleasure: it is human nature, the world over. ~ Matt Ridley
Psychiatrist quotes by Matt Ridley
And hey-the psychiatrist in the show is Italian also. So people are going to focus on what they want to focus on. There's not much you can do about that. ~ Edie Falco
Psychiatrist quotes by Edie Falco
My psychiatrist prescribed a game of golf as an antidote to the feelings of euphoria I experience from time to time. ~ Bruce Lansky
Psychiatrist quotes by Bruce Lansky
The psychiatrist must become a fellow traveler with his patient. ~ R.D. Laing
Psychiatrist quotes by R.D. Laing
I have a hunch it's a thing that only fails to be basic because it's never had material recognition. The weakness of this profession is its attraction for the man a little crippled and broken. Within the walls of the profession he compensates by tending toward the clinical, the 'practical' - he has won his battle without a struggle."

"On the contrary, you are a good man, Franz, because fate selected you for your profession before you were born. You better thank God you had no 'bent' - I got to be a psychiatrist because there was a girl at St. Hilda's in Oxford that went to the same lectures. Maybe I'm getting trite but I don't want to let my current ideas slide away with a few dozen glasses of beer. ~ F Scott Fitzgerald
Psychiatrist quotes by F Scott Fitzgerald
I only wanted to . . . I mean, just now, when Mr. George interrupted us, there was something very important I wanted to say to you."
"It is about what I told you in the church yesterday? I mean, I can understand that you may think me crazy because I see these beings, but a psychiatrist wouldn't make any difference."
Gideon frowned. "Just keep quiet for a moment, would you? I have to pluck up all my courage to make you a declaration of love . . . I've had absolutely no practice in this kind of thing."
"What?"
"Gwyneth," he said, perfectly seriously, "I've fallen in love with you."
My stomach muscles contracted as if I'd had a shock. But it was joy. "Really?"
"Yes, really!" In the light of the torch I saw Gideon smile. "I do realize we've known each other for less than a week, and at first I thought you were rather . . . childish, and I probably behaved badly to you. But you're terribly complicated, I never know what you'll do next, and in some ways you really are terrifyingly . . . er. . . naïve. Sometimes I just want to shake you."
"Okay, I can see you were right about having no practice in making declarations of love," I agreed.
"But then you're so amusing, and clever, and amazingly sweet," Gideon went on, as if he hadn't heard me. "And the worst of it is, you only have to be in the same room and I need to touch you and kiss you . . ."
"Yes, that's really too bad," I whispered, and my heart turned over as Gideon took the hatpin ou ~ Kerstin Gier
Psychiatrist quotes by Kerstin Gier
As a child psychiatrist, I knew too much about the statistics of foster care - less than one percent graduate college with a bachelor's degree, more than fifty percent of foster kids end up homeless after reaching eighteen, and most are dead by twenty-six. ~ Penny Reid
Psychiatrist quotes by Penny Reid
I want to be a lawyer, a dancer, an actress, a mother, a wife, a children's author, a distance runner, a poet, a pianist, a pet store owner, an astronaut, an environmental and humanitarian activist, a psychiatrist, a ballet teacher, and the first woman president. ~ Rachel Corrie
Psychiatrist quotes by Rachel Corrie
Buddy was very proud of his perfect health and was always telling me it was psychosomatic when my sinuses blocked up and I couldn't breathe. I thought this an odd attitude for a doctor to have and perhaps he should study to be a psychiatrist instead. ~ Sylvia Plath
Psychiatrist quotes by Sylvia Plath
Well, I worked in a sheet metal factory once and scarred my wrist from the cuts. I found a sympathetic psychiatrist who told the draft board I was insane. We used the scars as proof of a suicide attempt. ~ Tom Verlaine
Psychiatrist quotes by Tom Verlaine
My DVD cellophane was put on by a psychiatrist. It was shrink-wrapped. ~ Tim Vine
Psychiatrist quotes by Tim Vine
Typically, a psychiatrist can fool a patient by telling him the root of his problem can be fixed with this pill, that support group, and more psychiatry appointments. They don't tell the patient that the really fucked up people never get better. They mask their diseases by dousing them in heavy narcotics to numb their sickness, for years, until the peaceful eternal sleep comes and takes them away. ~ J. Matthew Nespoli
Psychiatrist quotes by J. Matthew Nespoli
You can grow up being a troublemaker and then before you know it the next thing you're doing is listening to Frank Zappa whilst chilling out ... now that's the intelligent way out. What would a psychiatrist say about that? ~ Stephen Richards
Psychiatrist quotes by Stephen Richards
After a year in therapy, my psychiatrist said to me, 'Maybe life isn't or everyone. ~ Larry Brown
Psychiatrist quotes by Larry Brown
Since this is the age of science, not religion, psychiatrists are our rabbis, heroin is our pork, and the addict is the unclean person. ~ Thomas Szasz
Psychiatrist quotes by Thomas Szasz
Linde's Danger to Self is a warm, candid and appealing account of being an emergency room psychiatrist. Linde captures the non-conformist, hard-boiled style of the psychiatrists who work in this setting. ~ Tanya Luhrmann
Psychiatrist quotes by Tanya Luhrmann
He had been hurt doing everything he had ever done. He expected it, even wanted it. Nothing centered a man like pain. Nothing drove the irrelevant bullshit our of your mind like the taste of your own blood. Duffy always wanted to tell people who were worried about the future of their children, or about God and the order of the universe, to go out and break a rib or two. A few broken ribs threw all thoughts of children, God and the order of the universe right out the window. Nobody with broken ribs ever had free-floating anxiety, or so Duffy was convinced. It was cheaper that a psychiatrist and never so humiliating. ~ Harry Crews
Psychiatrist quotes by Harry Crews
You don't know the things in your childhood that influence you. You can't possibly know them. People today try to analyze the early environment and the reasons for something that happened, but if you look at children of the same family
children who have identical parents, go to identical schools, have an almost identical upbringing, and yet who have totally different experiences and neuroses
you realize that what influences the children is not so much the obvious externals as their emotional experiences. Of course any psychiatrist knows that. ~ Louis Auchincloss
Psychiatrist quotes by Louis Auchincloss
One of the credos of my life is taken from Viktor Frankl, a Jewish survivor of Nazi concentration camps, who was a psychiatrist and author. In his highly influential book, Man's Search for Meaning, he related that after the war someone asked him if he 'hated the German race.' He responded that he did not because in his view, 'There are only two races, the decent and the indecent.' That is how I divide the world. Not between Muslim and non-Muslim, black and white, or American and non-American, but between the decent and indecent. The issues I raise about Islam are not about the decency of Muslims, but about whether Islam in its traditional Islamist configuration is more or less likely than the American value system to produce good societies. ~ Dennis Prager
Psychiatrist quotes by Dennis Prager
Take it easy, Norman. When the psychiatrist goes crazy, it's a bad sign. ~ Michael Crichton
Psychiatrist quotes by Michael Crichton
I'm afraid to see a psychiatrist about the voices in my head. She might know who they are. ~ Stanley Victor Paskavich
Psychiatrist quotes by Stanley Victor Paskavich
I guess a psychiatrist would say there's some good to the venting process, but it does also promote an attitude of saying, 'Hey there's nothing wrong with being filled with hate; there's so much of it around.' I don't like that. ~ Mario Cuomo
Psychiatrist quotes by Mario Cuomo
The psychiatrist wants to know why I go out and hike around in the forests and watch the birds and collect butterflies. I'll show you my collection some day."
"Good."
"They want to know what I do with my time. I tell them that sometimes I just sit and think. But I won't tell them what. I've got them running. And sometimes, I tell them, I like to put my head back, like this, and let the rain fall in my mouth. It tastes just like wine. Have you ever tried it? ~ Ray Bradbury
Psychiatrist quotes by Ray Bradbury
Half a century ago, the Austrian psychiatrist Viktor Frankl wrote that happiness cannot be attained by wanting to be happy - it must come as the unintended consequence of working for a goal greater than oneself. ~ Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi
Psychiatrist quotes by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi
The story of Sybil is true, not fictional or fraudulent. One early commentator actually suggested that Sybil and Dr. Cornelia Wilbur, her treating psychiatrist, were a case of folie à deux, or shared psychosis (Victor, 1975). Having met Dr. Wilbur, listened to her presentations on multiple personality (now known as dissociative identity disorder), and read the many critiques and reviews of Sybil, I have concluded that Sybil was not iatrogenically created by Dr. Wilbur. ~ Philip M. Coons
Psychiatrist quotes by Philip M. Coons
My psychiatrist said "you're BI Polar. I said "tell us something we don't already know". ~ Stanley Victor Paskavich
Psychiatrist quotes by Stanley Victor Paskavich
Psychiatrists don't solve anything from one day to the next. ~ Victoria Abril
Psychiatrist quotes by Victoria Abril
Four thousand years ago, an Egyptian wrote out his despair onto papyrus in the form of a narrative and four short-versed poems. This document, now in the Berlin Museum, is thought by British psychiatrist Chris Thomas to be the first suicide note [...]

"Death is before me today
As a man longs to see his house
When he has spent years in captivity. ~ Kay Redfield Jamison
Psychiatrist quotes by Kay Redfield Jamison
Wherever possible, home is by far the best nest until at least eight, ten or twelve. Psychologists and psychiatrists who understand child development would prefer an even later age. In a reasonably warm home, parent-child responses, the true ABC's of sound education, are likely to be a hundred times more frequent than the average teacher-child responses in a classroom. ~ Dorothy Moore
Psychiatrist quotes by Dorothy Moore
Has it ever occurred to you that you might be delusional?'
That's what the psychiatrist said, but I think he's wrong. There's an evil flying pizza out there, and it's got Brenda's name on it. ~ Janet Evanovich
Psychiatrist quotes by Janet Evanovich
Shortly after I returned home from the Ukraine, I became severely ill with what doctors believed was a parasite. I couldn't hold my food down and lost a lot of weight. Different doctors kept prescribing me antibiotics, but none of them seemed to help. For a couple of months, I was poked and tested in a variety of ways, only to have more questions surface than answers. Then I was sent to an ear, nose, and throat doctor for an evaluation. I was sitting in a waiting room with a bunch of toddlers, when my name was called. By the time I got into the examination room I knew I'd had enough.
"Hey, I'm outta here," I told the doctor. "I'll take my chance with the resurrection."
Well, a couple of weeks later, my insurance agent called me. He was one of my lifelong friends and sounded concerned.
"Hey, Jase," he said. "Your insurance company wants you to see a psychiatrist."
Apparently, the ear, nose, and throat doctor recommended I undergo a full psychiatric evaluation based on my refusal to be examined, along with my speech on the resurrection! Apparently, he thought I was crazy. I convinced my buddy that I didn't need a psychiatrist and eventually got over my illness. I would later read a passage of scripture in the Bible that caused me to smile in reflection on the entire ordeal. Second Corinthians 5:13 says: "If we are out of our mind, as some say, it is for God; if we are in our right mind, it is for you. ~ Jase Robertson
Psychiatrist quotes by Jase Robertson
If you were casting the part of the evil scientist who would prove the Caped Crusader's deadliest nemesis, you'd likely glance at the headshot of German-born psychiatrist Dr. Fredric Wertham, with his owl-like glasses and severe Prussian features, and think, "Nah, too on-the-nose. ~ Glen Weldon
Psychiatrist quotes by Glen Weldon
An editor who is a mentor, advisor, and psychiatrist. Don't kid yourself-a good editor will make your book better. ~ Guy Kawasaki
Psychiatrist quotes by Guy Kawasaki
I have no hang-ups. I don't have to go to psychiatrists. ~ Dan Lauria
Psychiatrist quotes by Dan Lauria
I feel strongly, because a man who will himself die one day in the not to distant future and, also, as a psychiatrist who spent decades dealing with death anxiety, that confronting death allows us, not to open some noisome, Pandora's box, but to re-enter life in a richer, more compassionate manner. ~ Irvin D. Yalom
Psychiatrist quotes by Irvin D. Yalom
A man goes to a psychiatrist and says, "My brother's gone crazy. He thinks he's a chicken." And the psychiatrist says, "Have you told him he's not a chicken?" The man replies, "I would, but we need the eggs. ~ Tina Fey
Psychiatrist quotes by Tina Fey
Finally, finally, I was thrown into this tiny, dark cell. It all went quiet. But I instantly noticed the warmth. And I could just make out the shape of the room under the crack in my blindfold.
I waited.
I was half-naked with my camouflage jacket pulled back halfway down my back, and I was huddled over shivering. I must have looked a mess.
I could taste the snot smeared down my face.
A hand pulled my blindfold off and a light went on.
"Recognize this, Bear?" a voice said softly.
I squinted. The DS was pointing at a white cross on his arm. I didn't react. I needed to double-check in my mind.
"This means the end of the exercise--Endex. Remember?"
I did, but still I didn't react yet. I needed to check once more in my mind. Then, finally, I nodded weakly at him. And he smiled back.
It was the end.
"Well done, buddy. Now take a seat, take five, and get this brew down you. The quack will be in to see you in a few minutes."
The DS put a blanket around my shoulders. A smile spread across my face and I felt a tear of relief trickle down my cheek.
For an hour a psychiatrist then debriefed me. He told me that I had done well and had resisted effectively. I felt just so relieved. I loved that psychiatrist.
The real lesson of this was twofold: Control your mind; and Don't get caught.
As the DS said, "Remember, at the end of the day, these guys are on your side. They are British, they aren't a real enemy. If they were, ~ Bear Grylls
Psychiatrist quotes by Bear Grylls
Doctor: Have you considered that your health issues are in your head and you may need to see a psychiatrist? Patient (Silently): Have you considered that you are an incompetent that is in the wrong profession? ~ Steven Magee
Psychiatrist quotes by Steven Magee
Not all people are ready to accept psychiatry as a normal branch of medicine. The general impression, as I believe, is that a man who needs a psychiatrist must be crazy. ~ Harry Segall
Psychiatrist quotes by Harry Segall
Psychiatrist and Auschwitz survivor, Viktor Frankl, stated, ... man is by no means merely a product of heredity and environment. There is a third element: decision. Man ultimately decides for himself! ~ Alice A. Kemp
Psychiatrist quotes by Alice A. Kemp
I am convinced that nine out of every ten persons seeing a psychiatrist do not need one. They need someone who will love them with God's love ... and they will get well. ~ Paul Tournier
Psychiatrist quotes by Paul Tournier
An editor is like a priest or a psychiatrist; if you get the wrong one then you are better off alone. ~ Toni Morrison
Psychiatrist quotes by Toni Morrison
I didn't intend 'Hector' to be a self-help book when I first started writing. I wrote it as a little tale about a psychiatrist, like me, who sets off around the world in order to discover the vital ingredients for happiness. ~ Francois Lelord
Psychiatrist quotes by Francois Lelord
Chess enjoys a not wholly undeserved reputation for psychic derangement. It is an endeavor associated, when not with frank madness, with oddness and isolation. I remember a psychiatrist friend visiting me at a chess club in downtown Boston once. He walked in, sat down, looked around and said, 'Jeez, I could run a group here. ~ Charles Krauthammer
Psychiatrist quotes by Charles Krauthammer
The moment is the sole reality. ~ Karl Jaspers
Psychiatrist quotes by Karl Jaspers
The innermost core of the patient's personality is not even touched by a psychosis.
An incurably psychotic individual may lose his usefulness but yet retain the dignity of a human being. This is my psychiatric credo.
Without it I should not think it worthwhile to be a psychiatrist.
For whose sake? Just for the sake of a damaged brain machine which cannot be repaired? If the patient were not definitely more, euthanasia would be justified. ~ Viktor E. Frankl
Psychiatrist quotes by Viktor E. Frankl
Magnus glared at him out of gold-green eyes. "If I wanted to lie on a couch and
complain to someone about my parents, I'd hire a psychiatrist."
"Ah," said Jace. "But my services are free."
"I heard that about you. ~ Cassandra Clare
Psychiatrist quotes by Cassandra Clare
(there is no one, but no one, more gullible than a psychiatrist), ~ Robert Barnard
Psychiatrist quotes by Robert Barnard
Nixon had sought the treatment of a psychiatrist throughout the 1950s. ~ Mike Stone
Psychiatrist quotes by Mike Stone
No, originally I thought that writing articles would keep me from having to see a psychiatrist, but I became even more depressed as a result. ~ Theo Van Gogh
Psychiatrist quotes by Theo Van Gogh
The guitar is just a wonderful instrument. It's everything: a bartender, a psychiatrist, a housewife. It's everything, but it's elusive ~ Les Paul
Psychiatrist quotes by Les Paul
In my practice as a psychiatrist, I have found that helping people to develop personal goals has proved to be the most effective way to help them cope with problems. ~ Ari Kiev
Psychiatrist quotes by Ari Kiev
My dear son, It is a puzzle worthy of the best psychiatrist that a human life can be so utterly void and at the same time filled to bursting with ~ Michael Chabon
Psychiatrist quotes by Michael Chabon
When I was first aware that I had been laid low by the disease, I felt a need, among other things, to register a strong protest against the word "depression." Depression, most people know, used to be termed "melancholia," a word which appears in English as the year 1303 and crops up more than once in Chaucer, who in his usage seemed to be aware of its pathological nuances. "Melancholia" would still appear to be a far more apt and evocative word for the blacker forms of the disorder, but it was usurped by a noun with a blank tonality and lacking any magisterial presence, used indifferently to describe an economic decline or a rut in the ground, a true wimp of a word for such a major illness.

It may be that the scientist generally held responsible for its currency in modern times, a Johns Hopkins Medical School faculty member justly venerated -- the Swiss-born psychiatrist Adolf Meyer -- had a tin ear for the finer rhythms of English and therefore was unaware of the semantic damage he had inflicted for such a dreadful and raging disease. Nonetheless, for over seventy-five years the word has slithered innocuously through the language like a slug, leaving little trace of its intrinsic malevolence and preventing, by its insipidity, a general awareness of the horrible intensity of the disease when out of control. ~ William Styron
Psychiatrist quotes by William Styron
Schizophrenia is the name for a condition that most psychiatrists ascribe to patients they call schizophrenic. ~ R.D. Laing
Psychiatrist quotes by R.D. Laing
Henry Gerber, writing in 1932 under the pseudonym Parisex, responded to an article in The Modern Thinker that condemned homosexuality. "Is not the psychiatrist again putting the cart before the horse in saying that homosexuality is a symptom of the neurotic style of life?" he insisted. "Would it not sound more natural to say that the homosexual is made neurotic because his style of life is beset by thousands of dangers? ~ George Chauncey
Psychiatrist quotes by George Chauncey
The new psychiatrists say that everything and anything can be traced back to sexual causes. Their method, for example, could be explained as the eroticism of father confessors. ~ Karl Kraus
Psychiatrist quotes by Karl Kraus
If you agree with me on 9 out of 12 issues, vote for me. If you agree with me on 12 out of 12 issues, see a psychiatrist. ~ Ed Koch
Psychiatrist quotes by Ed Koch
I know that I brought this all on myself. I know that I deserve this. I'd do anything not to be this way. I'd do anything to make it up to everyone. And to not have to see a psychiatrist, who explains to me about being passive aggressive. ~ Stephen Chbosky
Psychiatrist quotes by Stephen Chbosky
I think I need a psychiatrist because I do believe I am mentally disturbed in some way. ~ Tyson Fury
Psychiatrist quotes by Tyson Fury
What would you think of an engineer who expounded the art of flying without revealing the secrets of the engine and propeller? That's what you do, you engineer of the human soul. Just that. You're a coward. You want the raisins out of my cake but you don't want the thorns of my roses. Haven't you too, little psychiatrist, been cracking silly jokes about me? Haven't you ridiculed me as "the prophet of bigger and better orgasms"? Have you never heard the whimpering of a young wife whose body has been desecrated by an impotent husband? Or the anguished cry of an adolescent bursting with unfulfilled love? Does your security still mean more to you than your patient? How long will you go on valuing your respectability above your medical mission? How long will you refuse to see that your pussyfooting procrastination is costing millions their lives? ~ Wilhelm Reich
Psychiatrist quotes by Wilhelm Reich
It is amazing to observe how many psychologists and psychiatrists have accepted this sort of propaganda, and have come to believe that homosexual males and females are discretely different from persons who respond to natural stimuli. Instead of using these terms as substantives which stand for persons, or even as adjectives to describe persons, they may better be used to describe the nature of the overt sexual relations, or of the stimuli to which an individual erotically responds. ~ Alfred Kinsey
Psychiatrist quotes by Alfred Kinsey
It is quite common for people to be nervous or embarrassed about visiting a psychiatrist. It shouldn't be, but it is. ~ Raisha Lalwani
Psychiatrist quotes by Raisha Lalwani
Martie came out of the office first, smiling prettily, and Dusty rose to greet her, smiling less prettily, and Dr. Ahriman entered the waiting room behind her, smiling paternally, and maybe Dusty smiled a little more prettily when he saw the psychiatrist, because the man virtually radiated competence and compassion and confidence and all sorts of good stuff. ~ Dean Koontz
Psychiatrist quotes by Dean Koontz
You think I'm psycho, you think I'm gone
Tell the psychiatrist something is wrong
Over the bend, entirely bonkers
You like me best when I'm off my rocker
Tell you a secret, I'm not alarmed
So what if I'm crazy? The best people are. ~ Melanie Martinez
Psychiatrist quotes by Melanie Martinez

Psychiatrist quotes by Ben Hecht
He got the deviant joke loud and clear, the one about the biggest head case craving the taste of a psychiatrist. The little bit of a thing was smarter than most. ~ V. Theia
Psychiatrist quotes by V. Theia
I don't go to a psychiatrist. I don't go to a gym. I run away from my accountant, I run away from my dentist. They are all supposed to help you, but I like to stay in bed, where I have a chance to reflect, like Rossellini. ~ Marlene Dumas
Psychiatrist quotes by Marlene Dumas
To grow one has to feel pain, know uneasiness - as you certainly must know from your work as a child psychiatrist.
