The 112th Congress passed only 220 laws, the lowest number enacted by any Congress. In 1948, when President Truman called the 80th Congress a 'Do-Nothing' Congress, it had passed more than 900 laws. ~ Juan Williams
Juan quotes by Juan Williams
If you get the U.N. to say we're going to solve the Syrian problem, if you get the Russians involved in a productive posture, you are making progress, but the Republican core says no strategy or failed strategy. ~ Juan Williams
Juan quotes by Juan Williams
And it is because a series of elements in Spanish life which operate today the same way as they did in the times of Blanco White made obvious my relationship with him, based on a similarity in Spain's condition. ~ Juan Goytisolo
Juan quotes by Juan Goytisolo
One of the things that really worries me, in part about Mexico, in part about Latin America, and in part about the Hispanic population in the U.S. and Canada. It's the lack of awareness of this whole science world. ~ Juan Enriquez
Juan quotes by Juan Enriquez
I am thirsty, and very susceptible to flattery ... you could talk me into anything ... "
"So much for fighting the good fight," I observed dryly. "He'll have a harem within a week."
Bones watched Juan disappear down the hall, nuzzling the blonde's neck in a manner that didn't speak only of hunger. "He's a fine bloke. He'll learn."
"Learn what?" At least he can't get or pass diseases anymore, I thought. That's one advantage turning Juan into a vampire did for womankind.
Bones put an arm around me as we headed toward the exit of the flesh feast. "He'll learn that many women can satisfy for a short period of time, but when he falls in love, only one will sustain him forever."
I cast him a sideways glance "Are you trying to seduce me?"
His lips curled with promise. "Absolutely. ~ Jeaniene Frost
Juan quotes by Jeaniene Frost
The critical importance of honest journalism and a free flowing, respectful national conversation needs to be had in our country. But it is being buried as collateral damage in a war whose battles include political correctness and ideological orthodoxy. ~ Juan Williams
Juan quotes by Juan Williams
There is another reason also why the soul has traveled safely in this obscurity; it has suffered: for the way of suffering is safer, and also more profitable, than that of rejoicing and of action. In suffering God gives strength, but in action and in joy the soul does but show its own weakness and imperfections. And in suffering, the soul practices and acquires virtue, and becomes pure, wiser, and more cautious. ~ San Juan De La Cruz
Juan quotes by San Juan De La Cruz
The driver of a racing car is a component. When I first began, I used to grip the steering wheel firmly, and I changed gear so hard that I damaged my hand. ~ Juan Manuel Fangio
Juan quotes by Juan Manuel Fangio
Though President Obama promised during the 2008 campaign to pass the DREAM Act, he never made it a priority and failed to bring Republicans and Democrats together to do it in his first term. ~ Juan Williams
Juan quotes by Juan Williams
Let there be light!" said God, and there was light! "Let there be blood!" says man, and there's a sea! - Lord Byron, Don Juan ~ Robert Liparulo
Juan quotes by Robert Liparulo
19. Before the divine fire is introduced into the substance of the soul and united with it through perfect and complete purgation and purity, its flame, which is the Holy Spirit, wounds the soul by destroying and consuming the imperfections of its bad habits. And this is the work of the Holy Spirit, in which he disposes it for divine union and transformation in God through love. The very fire of love that afterward is united with the soul, glorifying it, is what previously assailed it by purging it, just as the fire that penetrates a log of wood is the same that first makes an assault on the wood, wounding it with the flame, drying it out, and stripping it of its unsightly qualities until it is so disposed that it can be penetrated and transformed into the fire. Spiritual writers call this activity the purgative way. ~ San Juan De La Cruz
Juan quotes by San Juan De La Cruz
Do you know at this very moment you are surrounded by eternity? And do you know that you can use that eternity if you so desire? ~ Carlos Castaneda
Juan quotes by Carlos Castaneda
The world we live in today is very, very diverse. It has extremism on one side, it has incredible liberal aspects to it on the other. ~ Juan Pablo Di Pace
Juan quotes by Juan Pablo Di Pace
The more we engage in society, the more firsts we have, then there will be a moment when we have no more firsts. Or maybe there will always be new firsts. ~ Juan Felipe Herrera
Juan quotes by Juan Felipe Herrera
What the eye doesn't see, the heart doesn't grieve over. ~ Juan Gabriel Vasquez
Juan quotes by Juan Gabriel Vasquez
I read somewhere that a man should tell the story of his life at the age of forty, and this deadline is fast approaching as I write these lines, only a few short weeks remain before this ominous birthday arrives. ~ Juan Gabriel Vasquez
Juan quotes by Juan Gabriel Vasquez
In my day it was 75 percent car and mechanic, 25 percent driver and luck. Today it's 95 percent car. ~ Juan Manuel Fangio
Juan quotes by Juan Manuel Fangio
For me there is only the traveling on paths that have heart, on any All paths are the same: they lead nowhere. They are paths going through the bush, or into the bush. In my own life I could say I have traversed long, long paths, but I am not anywhere ... Does this path have a heart? If it does, the path is good; if it doesn't, it is of no use. Both paths lead no where; but one has a heart, the other does'nt. One makes for a joyful journey; as long as you follow it, you are one with it. The other will make you curse your life. On makes you strong; the other weakens you ... path that may have heart. There I travel, and the only worthwhile challenge is to traverse its full length. And there I travel, lookng looking, breathlessly. ~ Carlos Castenada
Juan quotes by Carlos Castenada
There are two sides to a person's being - the superconscious and the conscious. These have reverberations in the popular works of Carlos Castaneda, in the don Juan terminology of the tonal and the nagual. ~ Frederick Lenz
Juan quotes by Frederick Lenz
Frederick Douglass had to teach himself how to read before standing up to defeat slavery. ~ Juan Williams
Juan quotes by Juan Williams
And this one is relatively common: iatrophobia, or fear of doctors. Or gynophobia, which is fear of women, and naturally only afflicts only men. Very widespread in Mexico, although it manifests itself in different ways. Isn't that a slight exaggeration? Not a bit: almost all Mexican men are afraid of women. I don't know what to say to that, said Juan de Dios Martínez. Then there are two fears that are really very romantic: ombrophobia and thalassophobia, or fear of rain and fear of the sea. And two others with a touch of the romantic: anthophobia, or fear of flowers, and dendrophobia, fear of trees. Some Mexican men may be gynophobes, said Juan de Dios Martínez, but not all of them, it can't be that bad. What do you think optophobia is? asked the director. Opto, opto, something to do with the eyes, my God, fear of the eyes? Even worse: fear of opening the eyes. In a figurative sense, that's the answer to what you just said about gynophobia. In a literal sense, it leads to violent attacks, loss of consciousness, visual and auditory hallucinations, and generally aggressive behavior. ~ Roberto Bolano
Juan quotes by Roberto Bolano
There are only two possible forms of control: one internal and the other external; religious control and political control. They are of such a nature that when the religious barometer rises, the barometer of [external, i.e., political control] falls and likewise, when the religious barometer falls, the political barometer, that is political control and tyranny, rises. That is the law of humanity, a law of history. If civilized man falls into disbelief and immorality, the way is prepared for some gigantic and colossal tyrant, universal and immense. ~ Juan Donoso Cortes
Juan quotes by Juan Donoso Cortes
The prototypic Don Juan, invented early in the XVI century by a Spanish monk, was ~ George Bernard Shaw
Juan quotes by George Bernard Shaw
As from the 1970's onward, digital code started to drive the global economy, now life code is beginning to be the fundamental driver of the global economy over the next 10, 20, 30 years. ~ Juan Enriquez
Juan quotes by Juan Enriquez
Under these circumstances, if they meet with no one who understands the matter, these persons fall away, and abandon the right road; or become weak, or at least put hindrances in the way of their further advancement, because of the great efforts they make to proceed in their former way of meditation, fatiguing their natural powers beyond measure. They think that their state is the result of negligence or of sin. All their own efforts are now in vain, because God is leading them by another and a very different road, that of contemplation. Their first road was that of discursive reflection, but the second knows no imagination or reasoning. 4. It behooves those ~ San Juan De La Cruz
Juan quotes by San Juan De La Cruz
My manager said it would more effective against left-handed hitters. It seemed to me that was impossible to do without the high leg kick, which I started that day. ~ Juan Marichal
Juan quotes by Juan Marichal
When you brought the Industrial Revolution in, all of a sudden India and China went from being the dominant global powers to being powers dominated by those who understood how to apply this new technology. ~ Juan Enriquez
Juan quotes by Juan Enriquez
the Battle of San Juan. Two years later, the regiment held its first reunion, with a grand three-day celebration at Oklahoma City. The young metropolis would show the world that it could do things. There would be visitors from every state. "T. R.," national hero, would attend. A grand display of fireworks, the largest ever seen west of the Mississippi, was ordered. Quanah was besought to bring a troop of Indians for the parade. They would be fed and cared for, paid a small sum, and could see the show. The agent agreed, and there was no difficulty in assembling a troop. The young men gathered their gayest finery and borrowed the carefully saved costumes of their fathers, war bonnets, belts, and beads and feather ornaments. ~ U.C. Berkeley
Juan quotes by U.C. Berkeley
The best way to prevent this is to have a night-light where your cockatiel will be sleeping. This will ensure that your cockatiel feels safe and doesn't become injured when he becomes frightened in the middle of the night. If you do find your cockatiel having night freight simply turn the nearest light on and allow them to see that everything is ok. ~ Juan Alvarez
Juan quotes by Juan Alvarez
Juan gave Bones the most admiring look he'd bestowed on him yet. You talked her into going without panties all these years? Madre de Dios, now that's impressive. I could learn a great deal from you, amigo. ~ Jeaniene Frost
Juan quotes by Jeaniene Frost
I don't accept the argument of people like David Horowitz that the government should impose some sort of predetermined political balance on academic research. ~ Juan Cole
Juan quotes by Juan Cole
I'm responsible for what I say, but I'm not responsible about how people interpret my situation. ~ Juan Pablo Galavis
Juan quotes by Juan Pablo Galavis
When nothing is for sure, we remain alert, perennially on our toes. It is more exciting not to know which bush the rabbit is hiding behind than to behave as though we knew everything. ~ Carlos Castaneda
Juan quotes by Carlos Castaneda
There is absolutely zero chance that ObamaCare will be repealed while Democrats control the Senate and President Obama is in the White House. ~ Juan Williams
Juan quotes by Juan Williams
All who joy would win
Must share it
Happiness was born a twin. ~ George Gordon Byron
Juan quotes by George Gordon Byron
What do you know of great love? Have you ever loved a woman until milk leaked from her as though she had just given birth to love itself, and now must feed it or burst? Have you ever tasted a woman until she believed that she could be satisfied only by consuming the tongue that had devoured her? Have you ever loved a woman so completely that the sound of your voice in her ear could cause her body to shudder and explode with such intense pleasure that only weeping could bring her full release? ~ Don Juan DeMarco
Juan quotes by Don Juan DeMarco
Nobody could stand an eternity of Heaven. ~ George Bernard Shaw
Juan quotes by George Bernard Shaw
Major General Leonard Wood

Leonard Wood was an army officer and physician, born October 9, 1860 in Winchester, New Hampshire. His first assignment was in 1886 at Fort Huachuca, Arizona where he fought in the last campaign against the fierce Apache warrior Geronimo. He was awarded the Medal of Honor for carrying dispatches 100 miles through hostile territory and was promoted to the rank of Captain, commanding a detachment of the 8th Infantry.

From 1887 to 1898, he served as a medical officer in a number of positions, the last of which was as the personal physician to President William McKinley. In 1898 at the beginning of the war with Spain, he was given command of the 1st Volunteer Cavalry. The regiment was soon to be known as the "Rough Riders." Wood lead his men on the famous charge up San Juan Hill and was given a field promotion to brigadier general.

In 1898 he was appointed the Military Governor of Santiago de Cuba. In 1920, as a retired Major General, Wood ran as the Republican candidate for the presidency of the United States, losing to Warren Harding. In 1921 following his defeat, General Wood accepted the post of Governor General of the Philippines. He held this position from 1921 to 1927, when he died of a brain tumor in Boston, on 7 August 1927, at 66 years of age after which he was buried, with full honors, in Arlington National Cemetery. ~ Hank Bracker
Juan quotes by Hank Bracker
If you want to tell grown-up fairy tales, you have to look for the dark side. ~ Juan Antonio Bayona
Juan quotes by Juan Antonio Bayona
My parents moved from ranch to ranch, valley to valley, town to town, but our roots in Fowler never really faded. For me, it's a place of history, stories and songs, not just facts and figures. ~ Juan Felipe Herrera
Juan quotes by Juan Felipe Herrera
Time must have covered it over
with roses so
it would not be remembered.
One particular rose,
that has an unexpected magic,
on top of each lonely hour of gold
or shadows,
a place just right to hold painful memories.
So that among the divine
and joyful
climbing roses, scarlet, white,
which would leave no room for the past,
the soul would be
wound into
the body. ~ Juan Ramon Jimenez
Juan quotes by Juan Ramon Jimenez
Hair is like a corpse you wear on your head while you're alive. ~ Juan Pablo Villalobos
Juan quotes by Juan Pablo Villalobos
In the 2000 presidential election, Al Gore got more votes than George W. Bush, but still lost the election. The Supreme Court's ruling in Florida gave Bush that pivotal state, and doomed Gore to lose the Electoral College. That odd scenario - where the candidate with the most votes loses - has happened three times in U.S. history. ~ Juan Williams
Juan quotes by Juan Williams
Even Juan laughed then. Everyone laughed. And suddenly the bus was not full of strangers. Some chemical association was formed. Norma laughed hysterically. All the tension of the morning came out in her laughter. ~ John Steinbeck
Juan quotes by John Steinbeck
Cable would not translate into the public radio universe. ~ Juan Williams
Juan quotes by Juan Williams
I'm like the black sheep of my family. ~ Juan Pablo Di Pace
Juan quotes by Juan Pablo Di Pace
A person is from wherever they feel best, and roots are for plants. Everyone knows that, don't they? ~ Juan Gabriel Vasquez
Juan quotes by Juan Gabriel Vasquez
Can we perceive those inorganic beings, don Juan?" I asked. "We certainly can," he replied. "Sorcerers do it at will. Average people do it, but they don't realize that they're doing it because they are not conscious of the existence of a twin world. When they think of a twin world, they enter into all kinds of mental masturbation, but it has never occurred to them that their fantasies have their origin in a subliminal knowledge that all of us have: that we are not alone. ~ Carlos Castaneda
Juan quotes by Carlos Castaneda
It's distressing when intellect can't detect its own defects. ~ Juan Filloy
Juan quotes by Juan Filloy
As to Don Juan, confess that it is the sublime of that there sort of writing; it may be bawdy, but is it not good English? It may be profligate, but is it not life, is it not the thing? Could any man have written it who has not lived in the world? and tooled in a post-chaise? in a hackney coach? in a Gondola? against a wall? in a court carriage? in a vis a vis? on a table? and under it? ~ Lord Byron
Juan quotes by Lord Byron
Until African-Americans and Hispanics can get serious, not just about area studies, which are important, but also about science and technology, they're not going to generate that wealth and that job within those communities. And that has absolutely devastating consequences for the places where people live, for the jobs and for the wealth. ~ Juan Enriquez
Juan quotes by Juan Enriquez
Yes, I am the first Latino poet laureate in the United States. But I'm also here for everyone and from everyone. My voice is made by everyone's voices. ~ Juan Felipe Herrera
Juan quotes by Juan Felipe Herrera
The Crimson Pirate, The Mark of Zorro, Captain Blood, The Black Pirate, Adventures of Don Juan, The Count of Monte Cristo, The Three Musketeers, The Scarlet Pimpernel, The Sea Hawk, The Prisoner of Zenda, Scaramouche, ~ Cary Elwes
Juan quotes by Cary Elwes
After the survivor of the Spanish conquest has told his life's story he is convicted by the Inquisition: He posted no brief in defense or mitigation of his offenses, and when he was most solemnly advised by the Court President of the dire consequences he faced if found guilty, Juan Damasceno volunteered only one comment: "It will mean I do not go to the Christian heaven?" He was told that that would indeed be the worst of his punishments: that he would most assuredly not go to Heaven. At which, his smile sent a thrill of horror through every soul of the Court. ~ Gary Jennings
Juan quotes by Gary Jennings
I lived in the Muslim world for 10 years. ~ Juan Cole
Juan quotes by Juan Cole
'Mamma Mia' and 'Dallas' have proved to me that the things you dream about can happen. I don't ask myself, 'How did I get here?' but instead, 'I deserve to be here. I was right to think this would happen.' I'm a firm believer in the power we have in our minds to want something and pursue it in a sane and focused way. ~ Juan Pablo Di Pace
Juan quotes by Juan Pablo Di Pace
I pointed out that the Atlanta Olympic bomber - as well as Timothy McVeigh and the people who protest against gay rights at military funerals - are Christians but we journalists don't identify them by their religion. ~ Juan Williams
Juan quotes by Juan Williams
I know I'm representing the Library of Congress, all the people of the United States and, of course, the Latinos and Latinas as well. ~ Juan Felipe Herrera
Juan quotes by Juan Felipe Herrera
Adulthood brings with it the pernicious illusion of control, and perhaps even depends on it. I mean that mirage of dominion over our own life that allows us to feel like adults, for we associate maturity with autonomy, the sovereign right to determine what is going to happen to us next. Disillusion comes sooner or later, but it always comes, it doesn't miss an appointment, it never has. ~ Juan Gabriel Vasquez
Juan quotes by Juan Gabriel Vasquez
What we need is political leadership which can give guidance to the development of global governance. We need business leadership which goes beyond shareholder value to understand the needs and fears of other stakeholders and their communities. ~ Juan Somavia
Juan quotes by Juan Somavia
There you'll find the place I love most in the world. The place where I grew thin from dreaming. My village, rising from the plain. Shaded with trees and leaves like a piggy bank filled with memories. You'll see why a person would want to live there forever. Dawn, morning, mid-day, night: all the same, except for the changes in the air. The air changes the color of things there. And life whirs by as quiet as a murmur ... the pure murmuring of life. ~ Juan Rulfo
Juan quotes by Juan Rulfo
The fundamental purpose of a novel like Count Julian is to achieve the unity of object and means of representation, the fusion of treason as scheme and treason as language. ~ Juan Goytisolo
Juan quotes by Juan Goytisolo
We are beginning to shift into life code. And in the process of shifting into life code, every life form on this planet is coded in a double helix with a sugar phosphate backbone. And that codes whether you become a bacteria, an orange, a lemon, a Lemur, a Cow, a sheep, a human being, a politician, any one of these things is all coded in this four-letter code. ~ Juan Enriquez
Juan quotes by Juan Enriquez
Every American president must be held to the highest standard. No president of any color should be given a free pass for screw-ups, lies or failure to keep a promise. ~ Juan Williams
Juan quotes by Juan Williams
My generation has not seen one single day of peace, and my dream is for my children and the children of all Colombians to have the change to see it. I hope the guerrilla understands that the time has come to leave this 50-year confrontation behind; that the time has come to change from bullets to votes, from weapons to argumentations; that the time has come for them to continue their struggle, but within democracy. ~ Juan Manuel Santos
Juan quotes by Juan Manuel Santos
But I had not quite fixed whether to make him [Don Juan] end in Hell-or in an unhappy marriage,-not knowing which would be the severest. ~ Lord Byron
Juan quotes by Lord Byron

Juan quotes by Juan Gris
God is a sadist on the Juan de Fuca Ridge, and His name is Physics. ~ Peter Watts
Juan quotes by Peter Watts
Uribe and I have very good relations. I owe him loyalty, I admire him, he did great things for our country, and I think that because of what he did, I can now concentrate on different issues, different from what he concentrated on. ~ Juan Manuel Santos
Juan quotes by Juan Manuel Santos
I believe that each fight teaches you something, and a new history is written in each fight. ~ Juan Manuel Marquez
Juan quotes by Juan Manuel Marquez
Remember the past and work for the future...
But never forget to live today! ~ Carlo Jose San Juan
Juan quotes by Carlo Jose San Juan
... Perhaps this momentary life of ours is only the light that divides our infinite origin from our infinite end. ~ Juan Ramon Jimenez
Juan quotes by Juan Ramon Jimenez
He found forty, of which he only really liked two: "rose rot" and "to err so."
See inbred girl; lie breeds grin; leering debris; greed be nil, sir; be idle re. rings; ringside rebel; residing rebel; etc.
That's true. Much of the meter in Don Juan only works if you read Juan as syllabic."

The background reveals the true being and state of being of the man or thing. If I do not possess the background, I make the man transparent, the thing transparent. ~ Juan Ramon Jimenez

The arc of Ken Griffey Jr.'s swing has gotten bigger than when he hit line drives. Juan Gonzalez is a terrific power hitter, too. ~ Tony La Russa
Juan quotes by Tony La Russa
I don't know when I started to realize that my country's past was incomprehensible and obscure to me, a real shadowy terrain, nor can I remember the precise moment when all that i'd believed so trustworthy and predictable - the place I'd grown up, whose language I speak and customs I know, the place whose past I was taught in school and in university, whose present I have become accustomed to interpreting and pretending I understand - began to turn into a place of shadows out of whcih jumped horrible creatures as soon as we dropped our guard. With time I have come to think that this is the true reason why writers write aboutn the places of childhood and adolescence and even their early touth: you don't write about what you know and understand, and much less do you write because you know and understand, but because you understand that all your knowledge and comprehension is false, a mirage and an illusion, so your books are not, could not be, more than elaborate displays of disorientation: extensive and multifarious declarations of preplexity. All that I thought was so clear, you then think, now turns out to be full of duplicities and hidden intentions, like a friend who betrays us. To that revelation, which is always annoying and often frankly painful, the writer responds in the only way one knows how: with a book. And that's how you try to mitigate your disconcertion, reduce the space between what you don't know and what can be known, and most of all resolve your profound di ~ Juan Gabriel Vasquez
Juan quotes by Juan Gabriel Vasquez
I took off petal after petal, as if you were a rose,
in order to see your soul,
and I didn't see it. ~ Juan Ramon Jimenez
Juan quotes by Juan Ramon Jimenez
My parents and grandparents listened to bacheta heavy, the true bachata from back in the day - Juan Luis Guerra, Anthony Santos. I liked the genre, but I remember thinking, 'OK, enough of this.' I would sing Usher's 'U Remind Me' to the girls in school. ~ Prince Royce
Juan quotes by Prince Royce

Juan quotes by Juan Antonio Samaranch
Don Juan speaks of the island of the tonal as something that's in the middle of the ocean ... the nagual. ~ Frederick Lenz
Juan quotes by Frederick Lenz
Ann Romney ... looked to me like a corporate wife. The stories she told about struggles - eh! It's hard for me to believe. I mean, she's a very rich woman, and I know that, and America knows that. ~ Juan Williams
Juan quotes by Juan Williams
My mother was a great storyteller and a great historian in her own way. She only made it to third grade. She came from Mexico City at the tail end of the Mexican Revolution and that kind of turmoil and chaos and frenzy and also excitement. ~ Juan Felipe Herrera
Juan quotes by Juan Felipe Herrera
Not by refraining from action does man attain freedom from action. Not by mere renunciation does he attain supreme perfection. ~ Krishna-Dwaipayana Vyasa
Juan quotes by Krishna-Dwaipayana Vyasa
The virtuous soul that is alone and without a master, is like a lone burning coal; it will grow colder rather than hotter. Those who fall alone remain alone in their fall, and they value their souls little since they entrust it to themselves alone. If you do not fear falling alone, do you presume that you will rise up alone? Consider how much more can be accomplished by two together than by one alone. ~ San Juan De La Cruz
Juan quotes by San Juan De La Cruz
NPR fired me for telling the truth. The truth is that I worry when I am getting on an airplane and see people dressed in garb that identifies them first and foremost as Muslims. This is not a bigoted statement. It is a statement of my feelings, my fears after the terrorist attacks of 9/11 by radical Muslims. ~ Juan Williams
Juan quotes by Juan Williams
Everyone thinks they know Jesus because they've got a personal relationship with him. ~ Juan Pablo Di Pace
Juan quotes by Juan Pablo Di Pace
The best classroom of all times was about two car lengths behind Juan Manuel Fangio. ~ Stirling Moss
Juan quotes by Stirling Moss
What I really had was stories, the oral traditions of my parents. We moved so much that that was really our encyclopedia. A dream world told to me from my parents in the living room. ~ Juan Felipe Herrera
Juan quotes by Juan Felipe Herrera
A permanent state of transition is man's most noble condition. ~ Juan Ramon Jimenez
Juan quotes by Juan Ramon Jimenez
I think we're going to move from a Homo sapiens into a Homo evolutis: ... a hominid that takes direct and deliberate control over the evolution of his species, her species and other species. ~ Juan Enriquez
Juan quotes by Juan Enriquez
The second cause whence these rebellions sometimes proceed is the devil, who, in order to disquiet and disturb the soul, at times when it is at prayer or is striving to pray, contrives to stir up these motions of impurity in its nature; and if the soul gives heed to any of these, they cause it great harm. For through fear of these not only do persons become lax in prayer - which is the aim of the devil when he begins to strive with them - but some give up prayer altogether, because they think that these things attack them more during that exercise than apart from it, which is true, since the devil attacks them then more than at other times, so that they may give up spiritual exercises. ~ San Juan De La Cruz
Juan quotes by San Juan De La Cruz
How to Avoid Pleurisy: Never make love to a girl named Candy on the tailgate of a half-ton Ford pickup during a chill rain in April out on Grandview Point in San Juan County, Utah. ~ Edward Abbey
Juan quotes by Edward Abbey
A poem is a flexible thing, and a poem is a poem. ~ Juan Felipe Herrera
Juan quotes by Juan Felipe Herrera
No matter how much individuals do through their own efforts, they cannot actively purify themselves enough to be disposed in the least degree for the divine union of the perfection of love. God must take over and purge them in that fire that is dark for them, as we will explain. ~ San Juan De La Cruz
Juan quotes by San Juan De La Cruz
In terms of partying and reckless abandon, I'm Don Juan. But, in terms of my heart, I'm the most loyal man you'll ever meet. ~ Rhys Ifans
Juan quotes by Rhys Ifans

Juan quotes by Juan Antonio Samaranch
I remember once acting really cool on a bus with this girl named Stephanie. When I got home, I realized that I had a really big zit on my forehead. If you have acne problems, you really shouldn't be acting like Don Juan. I should have been contrite - and apologized for exposing her to the angry pimple. ~ John Cusack
Juan quotes by John Cusack
