I tried to keep a certain bitterness out of my voice. I'd fancied Joe Magellan myself for a while. But he was way out of my league with his toned and tanned body and his come-to-bed eyes. I sank into a chaos of brief, incoherent and bizarre hallucinations, in which the grotesque and the horrible kept close company.
