The difference between utility and utility plus beauty is the difference between telephone wires and the spider web. ~ Edwin Way Teale
Spider Web quotes by Edwin Way Teale
For some, autumn comes early, stays late through life where October follows September and November touches October and then instead of December and Christ's birth, there is no Bethlehem Star, no rejoicing, but September comes again and old OCtober and so on down the years, with no winter, spring, or revivifying summer. FOr these beings, fall is the ever normal season, the only weather, there be no choice beyond. Where do they come from? The dust. Where do they go? The grave. Does blood stir their veins? No: the night wind. What ticks in their head? The worm. What speaks from their mouth? The toad. What sees from their eye? The snake. What hears with their ear? The abyss between the stars. They sift the human storm for souls, eat flesh of reason, fill tombs with sinners. They frenzy forth. In gusts they beetle-scurry, creep, thread, filter, motion, make all moons sullen, and surely cloud all clear-run waters. THe spider-web hears them, trembles--breaks. Such are the autumn people. Beware of them. ~ Ray Bradbury
Spider Web quotes by Ray Bradbury
She could feel magic in the quiet spring day, like a sorcerer's far-off voice, and lines of poetry floated over her mind as if they were strands of spider-web. ~ Stella Gibbons
Spider Web quotes by Stella Gibbons
He stared at the corner of the yellowed ceiling, at the spider web and its solitary occupant. "Why here?" he asked the spider. "You could choose anywhere instead of this house. I know I wouldn't be here if I didn't have to be." The spider said nothing. Come to think of it, Callum was sure the spider hadn't moved even an inch in the last week. Maybe it was dead. Dead and crisp like the untouched wasp carcass on his window sill. ~ Scott Kaelen
Spider Web quotes by Scott Kaelen
Time overlaps itself. A breath breathed from a passing breeze is not the whole wind, neither is it just the last of what has passed and the first of what will come, but is more
let me see
more like a single point plucked on a single strand of a vast spider web of winds, setting the whole scene atingle. That way; it overlaps ... As prehistoric ferns grow from bathtub planters. As a shiny new ax, taking a swing at somebody's next year's split-level pinewood pad, bites all the way to the Civil War. As proposed highways break down through the stacked strata of centuries. ~ Ken Kesey
Spider Web quotes by Ken Kesey
Given the nature of spiders, webs are inevitable. And given the nature of human beings, so are religions. Spiders can't help making fly-traps, and men can't help making symbols. That's what the human brain is there for - the turn the chaos of given experience into a set of manageable symbols. ~ Aldous Huxley
Spider Web quotes by Aldous Huxley
Poetry is a fresh morning spider-web telling a story of moonlit hours of weaving and waiting during a night. ~ Carl Sandburg
Spider Web quotes by Carl Sandburg
In the spider-web of facts, many a truth is strangled. ~ Paul Eldridge
Spider Web quotes by Paul Eldridge
Just imagine the banner headlines if a marine biologist were to discover a species of dolphin that wove large, intricately meshed fishing nets, twenty dolphin-lengths in diameter! Yet we take a spider web for granted, as a nuisance in the house rather than as one of the wonders of the world. And think of the furore if Jane Goodall returned from Gombe stream with photographs of wild chimpanzees building their own houses, well roofed and insulated, of painstakingly selected stones neatly bonded and mortared! Yet caddis larvae, who do precisely that, command only passing interest. ~ Richard Dawkins
Spider Web quotes by Richard Dawkins
A poem is a spider web
Spun with words of wonder,
Woven lace held in place
By whispers made of thunder. ~ Charles Ghigna
Spider Web quotes by Charles Ghigna
A spider web is a natural structure that works by ultimate tension, and an eggshell is a structure that works by ultimate compression. Both use the minimum and the appropriate material with maximum efficiency. Just as we learn to build suspension bridges with ropes and cables in imitation of spider webs, we can learn to build domes in imitation of eggshells, building in maximum tension or compression. ~ Nader Khalili
Spider Web quotes by Nader Khalili
If you choose to believe me, good. Now I will tell you how Octavia, the spider-web city, is made. There is a precipice between two steep mountains: the city is over the void, bound to the two crests with ropes and chains and catwalks. You walk on the little wooden ties, careful not to set your foot in the open spaces, or you cling to the hempen strands. Below there is nothing for hundreds and hundreds of feet: a few clouds glide past; farther down you can glimpse the chasm's bed.
This is the foundation of the city: a net which serves as passage and as support. All the rest, instead of rising up, is hung below: rope ladders, hammocks, houses made like sacks, clothes hangers, terraces like gondolas, skins of water, gas jets, spits, baskets on strings, dumb-waiters, showers, trapezes and rings for children's games, cable cars, chandeliers, pots with trailing plants.
Suspended over the abyss, the life of Octavia's inhabitants is less uncertain than in other cities. They know the net will only last so long. ~ Italo Calvino
Spider Web quotes by Italo Calvino
Sometimes you've got to give them what they expect. It's the most important lesson of his life. He figures there are parts missing somewhere inside him; little pieces, like strands of a spider web that vibrate when something touches any part of the web. The strands let the spider know something else has entered its world. He has all the normal emotions. They just don't apply to other people; like those strands have been severed. ~ Wayne DePriest
Spider Web quotes by Wayne DePriest
It was a vow we made those long years ago. Neither of us spoke of it afterwards, but it hung between us like a spider web, fragile and easy to break, but danged hard to get shed of once the threads took hold. ~ Cassie Dandridge Selleck
Spider Web quotes by Cassie Dandridge Selleck
Solving crimes is like following a spider web. Everything is connected in some way. It's just figuring out where things intersect so I can find the spider in the middle. ~ Lisa Kessler
Spider Web quotes by Lisa Kessler
The universe has certain rules. Among them are:
He who owns a sharp tool will eventually cut himself.
And:
Laboratory accidents never result in super-hero-type powers.
And most applicable in this case:
He who laughs first gets caught.
The first rule could be, at a stretch, applied to Tony Stark and the Iron Man suit, considering recent events.
One notable exception to the second rule was currently swinging around New York City on a spider web, which did not bear thinking about. ~ Eoin Colfer
Spider Web quotes by Eoin Colfer
I liked teaching Henry James. When you look down at a Henry James novel from a helicopter height, you find an intricate spider web that all clings together. ~ Helen Vendler
Spider Web quotes by Helen Vendler
Your spirit is the duster of any spider web. Behind every finish line, there is a start one. Behind every success, there is another challenge. While you are alive, be alive. If you miss what you once did, do it again. Don't live in yellow photos ... Continue although everyone expects you to give up. Don't let oxide the iron that is inside you. Do that instead of pity, and they will respect you. When because of years you cannot run, jog. When you cannot jog, walk. When you cannot walk, use a cane. But never stop! ~ Mother Teresa
Spider Web quotes by Mother Teresa
The spider's web: She finds an innocuous corner in which to spin her web. The longer the web takes, the more fabulous its construction. She has no need to chase. She sits quietly, her patience a consummate force; she waits for her prey to come to her on their own, and then she ensnares them, injects them with venom, rendering them unable to escape. Spiders – so needed and yet so misunderstood. ~ Donna Lynn Hope
Spider Web quotes by Donna Lynn Hope
Cass Mastern lived for a few years and in that time he learned that the world is all of one piece. He learned that the world is like an enormous spider web and if you touch it, however lightly, at any point, the vibration ripples to the remotest perimeter and the drowsy spider feels the tingle and is drowsy no more but spring out to fling the gossamer coils about you who have touched the web and then inject the black, numbing poison under your hide. It does not matter whether or not you meant to brush the web of things. You happy foot or you gay wing may have brushed it ever so lightly, but what happens always happens and there is the spider, bearded black and with his great faceted eyes glittering like mirrors in the sun, or like God's eye, and the fangs dripping. ~ Robert Penn Warren
Spider Web quotes by Robert Penn Warren
Kid, when will you learn."

"You'd be amazed the things I know."

"You might be able thrash your way out of a spider-web, but thrashing in quicksand doesn't work. The harder you fight, the more ground you lose. Struggling merely expedites your inevitable defeat."

"Never been defeated. Never will be."

"Rowena was a spider web." He touches my cheek with the hand holding the knife. The silver glints an inch from my eye. "Do you know what I am."

"A great big pain in my ass."

"Quicksand. And you're dancing on it."

"Dude, what's with the knife?"

"I'm not interested in ink anymore. You're going to sign my contract in blood."

"Thought you said it was an application," I say pissily.

"It is, Dani. To a very exclusive club. What's Mine."

"Ain't nobody's. "

"Sign."

"You can't - "

"Or Jo dies. Slowly and painfully."

"Dude, why you still talking? Unchain me and give me the fecking contract already. ~ Karen Marie Moning
Spider Web quotes by Karen Marie Moning
Sometimes it looks like I'm dancing, but it's just that I walked into a spider web. ~ Demetri Martin
Spider Web quotes by Demetri Martin
Like a spider web; the threads of her life had been woven since she was young, but she had no part in the loom's process. ~ Christine Clemetson
Spider Web quotes by Christine Clemetson
The insecure people enjoy bad mouthing the others. They indulge in the continuous havoc and they tangle themselves in this spider web of plots and conflicts. I really wonder what it is about their inner life that make them so insecure. #Justmyobservation. ~ Euginia Herlihy
Spider Web quotes by Euginia Herlihy
Istagunga sought for the magic that ran beneath the soil like a network, each thread connecting all living things together. It was this immense power that held Iktomi's Web together... ~ Alannah K. Pearson
Spider Web quotes by Alannah K. Pearson
A spider web of 'patriots for profit', operating from the highest positions of special trust and confidence, have successfully circumvented our constitutional system in pursuit of a New World Order. ~ Bo Gritz
Spider Web quotes by Bo Gritz
A novel is not born of a single idea. The stories I've tried to write from one idea, no matter how terrific an idea, have sputtered out and died by chapter three. For me, novels have invariably come from a complex of ideas that in the beginning seemed to bear no relation to each other, but in the unconscious began mysteriously to merge and grow. Ideas for a novel are like the strong guy lines of a spider web. Without them the silken web cannot be spun. ~ Katherine Paterson
Spider Web quotes by Katherine Paterson
Laws: We know what they are, and what they are worth! They are spider webs for the rich and mighty, steel chains for the poor and weak, fishing nets in the hands of government. ~ Pierre-Joseph Proudhon
Spider Web quotes by Pierre-Joseph Proudhon
Spiders' webs only have to be large enough to catch flies. ~ Neil Gaiman
Spider Web quotes by Neil Gaiman
Looking at her, thinking of her transported him, which struck him as vile because now it was hard for him not to despise the icy serenity of their earlier relations. And he knew that he should not love her, for she had been someone else whom he was supposed to love differently. -What is loneliness? Does the lonely space between two rocks vanish when spanned by a spider web? ~ William T. Vollmann
Spider Web quotes by William T. Vollmann
Faced with what seems like an impossible task, a group of folks will do well to remember the African proverb: When spider webs unite they can tie up a lion. ~ Johnnetta B. Cole
Spider Web quotes by Johnnetta B. Cole
By using our international network, utilising templates and thinking ahead with pre-planned pages that contain carefully selected relevant news, we can deliver stories that other people just don't have. And that will release resources for the web. ~ Lionel Barber
Spider Web quotes by Lionel Barber
Trust him, I said. Trust Superman, Spider-man, E.T., the Ghost of Christmas Present . . . whoever the hell. ~ Janet Evanovich
Spider Web quotes by Janet Evanovich
The Cairo conferenceis about a complicated web of education and employment, consumption and poverty, development and health care. It is also about whether governments will follow where women have so clearly led them, toward safe, simple and reliable choices in family planning. While Cairo crackles with conflict, in the homes of the world the orthodoxies have been duly heard, and roundly ignored. ~ Anna Quindlen
Spider Web quotes by Anna Quindlen
Five years ago, we thought of the Web as a new medium, not a new economy. ~ Clement Mok
Spider Web quotes by Clement Mok
This is pretty hard on the Elders, is it not? If they could remember one thousandth part of that which they have heard, it would have sanctified them years and years ago; but it goes in at one ear and out at the other
it is like the weaver's shuttle passing through the web. ~ Brigham Young
Spider Web quotes by Brigham Young
Moksha – the liberation form, the web of maya be,
Freedom from the cycles of birth and death clearly;
- 33 - ~ Munindra Misra
Spider Web quotes by Munindra Misra
A protracted legislative fight will not move us closer to where the music industry wants to be - delivering music to fans through a variety of different, innovative Web sites. ~ Hilary Rosen
Spider Web quotes by Hilary Rosen
Bless," said Daisy, quietly. And then, slightly louder, "Charlie? There's something we need to talk about outside. Now." They went out into the hospital corridor, leaving Spider inside. "What?" said Charlie. "What what?" said Daisy. ~ Neil Gaiman
Spider Web quotes by Neil Gaiman
If someone had protected the HTML language for making Web pages, then we wouldn't have the World Wide Web. ~ Feng Zhang
Spider Web quotes by Feng Zhang
The difference between graphic novels and web comics is even greater than graphic novels and story boarding. Web comics really is a legitimately separate genre. ~ Doug TenNapel
Spider Web quotes by Doug TenNapel
What is aura? A peculiar web of space and time: the unique manifestation of a distance, however near it may be. To follow, while reclining on a summer's noon, the outline of a mountain range on the horizon or a branch, which casts its shadow on the observer until the moment or the hour partakes of their presence - this is to breathe in the aura of these mountains, of this branch. Today, people have as passionate an inclination to bring things close to themselves or even more to the masses, as to overcome uniqueness in every situation by reproducing it. Every day the need grows more urgent to possess an object in the closest proximity, through a picture or, better, a reproduction. And the reproduction, as the illustrated newspaper and weekly readily prove, distinguishes itself unmistakably from the picture. Uniqueness and permanence are as closely intertwined in the latter as transitoriness and reproducibility in the former. ~ Walter Benjamin
Spider Web quotes by Walter Benjamin
I think it's really important, when you're redefining a character [ Spider-Man], for the audience to experience things that they haven't experienced, from the ground up. I wanted to build a character. I feel like point of view is a really crucial thing in the story, and that you need to build up the emotional building blocks, so that you can experience all the other emotions in a very specific way, rather than just experiencing it in an intellectual way. ~ Marc Webb
Spider Web quotes by Marc Webb
The problems of today's youth were no longer a Sunday supplement, or a news broadcast, or anything so remote and intangible. They were suddenly become a dirty, shivering boy, who told us that in this world we had built for him with our sweat and our blood, he was not only tired of living, but so unscared of dying that he did it daily, sometimes for recreation. ~ Spider Robinson
Spider Web quotes by Spider Robinson
I was inspired by the Hole in the Wall project, where a computer with an internet connection was put in a Delhi slum. When the slum was revisited after a month, the children of that slum had learned how to use the worldwide web. ~ Sugata Mitra
Spider Web quotes by Sugata Mitra
I'm like a moth that flew into your web of its own accord. I'm dreaming of the day you'll devour me ... But you just give me sweet nectar so I won't die. Then, one day, an adorable butterfly gets caught in your web. And right in front of my eyes, you devour her with relish. When I've seen this for myself, I can finally be free ... ~ Setona Mizushiro
Spider Web quotes by Setona Mizushiro
The power of the Web is in its universality. Access by everyone regardless of disability is an essential aspect, ~ Tim Berners-Lee
Spider Web quotes by Tim Berners-Lee
Most of what presents itself to us in the marketplace as a product is in truth a web of relationships, between people, yes, but also between ourselves and all the other species on which we still depend. Eating and drinking especially implicate us in the natural world in ways that the industrial economy, with its long and illegible supply chains, would have us forget. The beer in that bottle, I'm reminded as soon as I brew it myself, ultimately comes not from a factory but from nature - from a field of barley snapping in the wind, from a hops vine clambering over a trellis, from a host of invisible microbes feasting on sugars. It took the carefully orchestrated collaboration of three far-flung taxonomic kingdoms - plants, animals, and fungi - to produce that ale. To make it yourself once in a while, to handle the barley and inhale the aroma of hops and yeast, becomes, among other things, a form of observance, a weekend ritual of remembrance. ~ Michael Pollan
Spider Web quotes by Michael Pollan
Arthur laughs at his son's embarrassment, though he also knows that this is exactly the kind of thing he likes about her. What does anyone like? Freckles, the curve of hair where she tucks it behind an ear, the sound of her voice when she tells a joke, her great, gleaming trombone in its velvet case. O'Neil has had girlfriends before, but this, Arthur knows, is different; he is entering the web, the matrix of a thousand details that make another person real, not just an object to be wanted. ~ Justin Cronin
Spider Web quotes by Justin Cronin
Incantations for Muggles:
The Role of Ubiquitous Web 2.0 Technologies in Everyday Life ~ Danah Boyd
Spider Web quotes by Danah Boyd
The web of domination has become the web of Reason itself, and this society is fatally entangled in it. ~ Herbert Marcuse
Spider Web quotes by Herbert Marcuse
We at The Web Standards Project turned everything on its head. We said browsers should support the same standards instead of competing to invent new tags and scripting languages. We said designers, developers, and content folks should create one site that was accessible to everyone. ~ Jeffrey Zeldman
Spider Web quotes by Jeffrey Zeldman
Web of our life is of a mingled yarn, good and ill together. ~ Kate Perry
Spider Web quotes by Kate Perry
The Web is functionally fantastic, but it's a tool. A terrific place to present information but not, at this stage, a tenably emotional location. ~ Kevin Roberts
Spider Web quotes by Kevin Roberts
Websites should look good from the inside and out ~ Paul Cookson
Spider Web quotes by Paul Cookson
By putting the means of production into the hands of the masses but withholding from those same masses any ownership over the product of their work, Web 2.0 provides an incredibly efficient mechanism to harvest the economic value of the free labor provided by the very, very many and concentrate it into the hands of the very, very few. ~ Nicholas G. Carr
Spider Web quotes by Nicholas G. Carr
Josh? Can you come to my room?"

My wolfish grin broke some of the tension on her face.

"Oh, stop. There's a spider. I need you to kill it. Please. Before it disappears and I have to burn my whole house down."

I laughed. "Should I get my gun or…?"

She bounced nervously. "Josh, I'm serious. I hate them. Please help me."

I pulled a few tissues from the box on my nightstand. "You know, you seem too fearless to be afraid of spiders."

"A black widow killed my schnauzer when I was a kid. Embracing a lifelong debilitating fear of spiders is cheaper than therapy." She stopped in the doorway of her room like there was an invisible force field, and I almost bumped into her back. ~ Abby Jimenez
Spider Web quotes by Abby Jimenez
With great care, Amy opened the cellar door.
With ladylike demeanor, she descended the stairs. And as her reward, she had the satisfaction of catching His Mighty Lordship sitting on the cot, his knee crooked sideways and his ankle pulled toward him, cursing at the manacle.
"I got it out of your own castle," she said.
Northcliff jumped like a lad caught at a mischief. "My . . . castle?" At once he realized what she meant. "Here on the island, you mean. The old ancestral pile."
"Yes." She strolled farther into the room. "I went down into the dungeons, crawled around in among the spider webs and the skeleton of your family's enemies - "
"Oh, come on." He straightened his leg. "There aren't any skeletons."
"No," she admitted.
"We had them removed years ago."
For one instant, she was shocked. So his family had been ruthless murderers! Then she realized he was smirking. The big, pompous jackass was making a jest of her labors. "If I could have found manacles that were in good shape I'd have locked both your legs to the wall."
"Why stop there? Why not my hands, too?" He moved his leg to make the chain clink loudly. "Think of your satisfaction at the image of my starving, naked body chained to the cold stone - "
"Starving?" She cast a knowledgeable eye at the empty breakfast tray, then allowed her lips to curve into a sarcastic smile.
"You'd love a look at my naked body, though, wouldn't you?" He fixed his gaze on her, and for on ~ Christina Dodd
Spider Web quotes by Christina Dodd
If you think about it, for any kind of content on the web, the natural price per unit of these things should be under a dollar. ~ Scott McCloud
Spider Web quotes by Scott McCloud
There is impotency being haunted by things we can't change; being stuck in your own damn mistakes isn't healthy. But when I think about
the things I need to do right now, and possibly won't, because I'd rather talk myself out of doing something that's coming from my heart, there's impotency in that, as well, and it's the worst kind of indifference, Spider; it's not doing what your heart is telling you to do. And there you'll be, old and dying, with regrets deep as the Seneca, and maybe even longer. ~ Vera Jane Cook
Spider Web quotes by Vera Jane Cook
I wish you'd stay away from us. Go somewhere safe. When it's over, maybe things could be different ... "
I let loose with an incredulous laugh. "Ugh, seriously? That's, like, the kind of crap that Spider-Man tells Mary Jane when he's trying to break it off with her. Do you know how embarrassing it is to be talked to like I'm some superhero's girlfriend? ~ Pittacus Lore
Spider Web quotes by Pittacus Lore
The Web is no longer just about the present-that crazy driver or this delicious meal. As we share messages, photos and updates, we're building a data trail about our lives and histories online. We can now tell stories not just about what is happening today, but where we've been, what we've shared, and what might happen in the future. ~ Keith Ferrazzi
Spider Web quotes by Keith Ferrazzi
I dread success. To have succeeded is to have finished one's business on earth, like the male spider who is killed by the female the moment he has succeeded in his courtship. I like the state of continual becoming, with a goal in front and not behind. ~ George Bernard Shaw
Spider Web quotes by George Bernard Shaw
him to shoot anyone who even looked cross-eyed at him. "Web English is such a subtle tongue," he said. "That phrase is older than the Web," I said. "Just do it. ~ Dan Simmons
Spider Web quotes by Dan Simmons
Facebook is so ubiquitous now that it's like another manifestation of the web itself. ~ Max Levchin
Spider Web quotes by Max Levchin
The web is a dangerous place for a mind begging to slack off and be distracted by nonsense. ~ Michelle M. Pillow
Spider Web quotes by Michelle M. Pillow
You have been my friend. That in itself is a tremendous thing. I wove my webs for you because I liked you. After all, what's a life, anyway? We're born, we live a little while, we die. A spider's life can't help being something of a mess, with all this trapping and eating flies. By helping you, perhaps I was trying to lift up my life a trifle. Heaven knows anyone's life can stand a little of that. ~ E.B. White
Spider Web quotes by E.B. White
Fixate on whole cultures, not specific pieces of poverty. No specific intervention is going to turn around the life of a child or an adult in any consistent way, but if you can surround a person with a new culture, and different web of relationships, then they will absorb new habits of thought and behavior in ways you will never be able to measure or understand. And if you do surround that person with a new, enriching culture, then you had better keep surrounding them with it, because if they slip back into a different culture, and most of the gains will fade away. ~ David Brooks
Spider Web quotes by David Brooks
Cloud computing seems to be following this evolutionary path: A - Internet backbone. B - Information Superhighway. C - The Net. D - The Web. E - The Cloud. F - "Ubiquity" G - ??? ... ~ Bruce Sterling
Spider Web quotes by Bruce Sterling
As my thoughts reached out to them, all at once I could envision hundreds of gossamer-thin threads of history and love, curiosity and memory, built up slowly across the time and space between us - a web of connections too delicate to be seen or touched, too strong to be completely severed. ~ Nicole Chung
Spider Web quotes by Nicole Chung
In the beginning, sin is like a thread of a spider's web. But in the end, it becomes like the cable of a ship. ~ Rabbi Akiva
Spider Web quotes by Rabbi Akiva
I read the papers, I surf the Web. At the beginning of the year, I try to see at least two episodes of every show on our network. Am I surfing? All the time. I'm aware of the landscape. I'm a competitor, so I have to know whom I'm competing with. ~ Leslie Moonves
Spider Web quotes by Leslie Moonves
I perceive all this, and believe that you were born under my star. Yes, you were born under my star! Tremble! for where that is the case with mortals, the threads of their destinies are difficult to disentangle; knottings and catchings occur - sudden breaks leave damage in the web. ~ Charlotte Bronte
Spider Web quotes by Charlotte Bronte
Live for a while in the books you love. Learn from them what is worth learning, but above all love them. This love will be returned to you a thousand times over. Whatever your life may become, these books -of this I am certain- will weave through the web of your unfolding. They will be among the strongest of all threads of your experiences, disappointments, and joys. ~ Rainer Maria Rilke
Spider Web quotes by Rainer Maria Rilke
To regard all things and principles of things as inconstant modes or fashions has more and more become the tendency of modern thought. Let us begin with that which is without - our physical life. Fix upon it in one of its more exquisite intervals, the moment, for instance, of delicious recoil from the flood of water in summer heat. What is the whole physical life in that moment but a combination of natural elements to which science gives their names? But these elements, phosphorus and lime and delicate fibres, are present not in the human body alone: we detect them in places most remote from it. Our physical life is a perpetual motion of them - the passage of the blood, the wasting and repairing of the lenses of the eye, the modification of the tissues of the brain by every ray of light and sound - processes which science reduces to simpler and more elementary forces. Like the elements of which we are composed, the action of these forces extends beyond us; it rusts iron and ripens corn. Far out on every side of us those elements are broadcast, driven by many forces; and birth and gesture and death and the springing of violets from the grave are but a few out of ten thousand resultant combinations. That clear, perpetual outline of face and limb is but an image of ours, under which we group them - a design in a web, the actual threads of which pass out beyond it. This at least of flame-like our life has, that it is but the concurrence, renewed from moment to moment, of forces p ~ Walter Pater
Spider Web quotes by Walter Pater
We all want to live in a world where we can make a difference ... That's why Spider-Man fights the good fight. Or Captain Marvel. Or me. Or ... There are a lot of us. And we don't all wear masks these days. Iron Man went public. So did Captain America. Others. Probably because it's harder to keep secrets in an internet surveillance age. But I think some of it, too, is that the ethical paradox can wear you down. No one on the white-hat side has ever hidden his or her identity with less than noble intent: to make the fight about something bigger than us. To represent a greater justice, where the focus can be on right and wrong ... and not on whether the bad guys will exact reprisal on those close to us. And sometimes you have to lie ... because you can justify a lie if lives are riding on it. Even as you fight for, as the saying goes, truth and justice ... even if you're a lawyer who has sworn to live by the truth ... you willingly bear false witness. ~ Mark Waid
Spider Web quotes by Mark Waid
Education is a seamless web: one level of learning relates to every other. ~ Ernest L. Boyer
Spider Web quotes by Ernest L. Boyer
