That great lover of peace, a man of giant stature who moulded, as few other men have done, the destinies of his age. ~ Jawaharlal Nehru
Death Suicide quotes by Jawaharlal Nehru
...There is a duty of solidarity among all us impossible, near-invisible people: a duty, out of sheer cussedness, not to disappear completely, simply to ease the conscience of the rest. ~ Anna Lyndsey
Death Suicide quotes by Anna Lyndsey
Suicide is very contagious. ~ Chuck Palahniuk
Death Suicide quotes by Chuck Palahniuk
Cigarettes don't kill people - cancer kills people. ~ Richard M. Weiner
Death Suicide quotes by Richard M. Weiner
When you wake up in the morning and nothing hurts, you can be sure you're dead. ~ Herbert Achternbusch
Death Suicide quotes by Herbert Achternbusch
We throw our parties; we abandon our families to live alone in Canada; we struggle to write books that do not change the world, despite our gifts and our unstinting efforts, our most extravagant hopes. We live our lives, do whatever we do, and then we sleep. It's as simple and ordinary as that. A few jump out windows, or drown themselves, or take pills; more die by accident; and most of us are slowly devoured by some disease, or, if we're very fortunate, by time itself. There's just this for consolation: an hour here or there when our lives seem, against all odds and expectations, to burst open and give us everything we've ever imagined, though everyone but children (and perhaps even they) know these hours will inevitably be followed by others, far darker and more difficult. Still, we cherish the city, the morning; we hope, more than anything, for more. Heaven only knows why we love it so ... ~ Michael Cunningham
Death Suicide quotes by Michael Cunningham
Funeral: a pageant whereby we attest our respect for the dead by enriching the undertaker, and strengthen our grief by an expenditure that deepens our groans and doubles our tears. ~ Ambrose Bierce
Death Suicide quotes by Ambrose Bierce
If I'm gonna commit suicide, I'll go out eatin' pussy to death. ~ Dave Mustaine
Death Suicide quotes by Dave Mustaine
Suicide is a realistic option, I hear myself saying a minute later. Some people take comfort in the realization that they have control over the way their life ends. What they dread most of all is the implementation. The way in which. A train is so violent. Cutting your wrists in the bathtub is so bloody. Hanging is painful - it takes a long time before death comes. Sleeping pills may be vomited up. But there are substances that bring about a painless, easy death. ~ Herman Koch
Death Suicide quotes by Herman Koch
I'd rather DIE than go to heaven. ~ Brendon Small
Death Suicide quotes by Brendon Small
She sleeps alone at last. ~ Robert Benchley
Death Suicide quotes by Robert Benchley
At great periods you have always felt, deep within you, the temptation to commit suicide. You gave yourself to it, breached your own defenses. You were a child. The idea of suicide was a protest against life; by dying, you would escape this longing for death. ~ Cesare Pavese
Death Suicide quotes by Cesare Pavese
Letty allowed her to ramble on while she looked around the wood, remembering its autumn carpet of beech leaves and wondering if it could be the kind of place to lie down in and prepare for death when life became too much to be endured. ~ Barbara Pym
Death Suicide quotes by Barbara Pym
Who would not shudder if he were given the choice of eternal death or life again as a child ? Who would not choose to die ? ~ Saint Augustine
Death Suicide quotes by Saint Augustine
You can't kill me, I've got a magic ... AAAARGH ! ~ Terry Pratchett
Death Suicide quotes by Terry Pratchett
Wanting to Die

Since you ask, most days I cannot remember.
I walk in my clothing, unmarked by that voyage.
Then the almost unnameable lust returns.

Even then I have nothing against life.
I know well the grass blades you mention,
the furniture you have placed under the sun.

But suicides have a special language.
Like carpenters they want to know which tools.
They never ask why build.

Twice I have so simply declared myself,
have possessed the enemy, eaten the enemy,
have taken on his craft, his magic.

In this way, heavy and thoughtful,
warmer than oil or water,
I have rested, drooling at the mouth-hole.

I did not think of my body at needle point.
Even the cornea and the leftover urine were gone.
Suicides have already betrayed the body.

Still-born, they don't always die,
but dazzled, they can't forget a drug so sweet
that even children would look on and smile.

To thrust all that life under your tongue! -
that, all by itself, becomes a passion.
Death's a sad Bone; bruised, you'd say,

and yet she waits for me, year after year,
to so delicately undo an old wound,
to empty my breath from its bad prison.

Balanced there, suicides sometimes meet,
raging at the fruit, a pumped-up moon,
leaving the bread they mistook for a kiss,

leaving the page of the book carelessly ~ Anne Sexton
Death Suicide quotes by Anne Sexton
Death is not a choice, even for the suicide. ~ Marty Rubin
Death Suicide quotes by Marty Rubin
Life's too short for a funeral. ~ Bill Smith
Death Suicide quotes by Bill Smith
Lately, the only thing keeping me from being a serial killer is my distaste for manual labor. ~ Scott Adams
Death Suicide quotes by Scott Adams
He was deader than a shrunken head at a Hackey Sack festival. ~ Scott Adams
Death Suicide quotes by Scott Adams
When everything else failed, we can still become immortal by making an enormous blunder ... ~ John Kenneth Galbraith
Death Suicide quotes by John Kenneth Galbraith
Who hasn't wanted to die at one time or another? ~ Ryu Murakami
Death Suicide quotes by Ryu Murakami
Suicide may be a declaration of bankruptcy which passes judgement on a life as one long history of failures. But it is a history which also amounts at least to this one decision which, by its very finality, is not wholly a failure. Some kind of minimal freedom - the freedom to die in one's own way and in one's own time - has been salvaged from the wreck of all those unwanted necessities. ~ Al Alvarez
Death Suicide quotes by Al Alvarez
Dyin' ain't much of a livin'. ~ Josey Wales
Death Suicide quotes by Josey Wales
Every suicide is a solution to a problem. ~ Jean Baechler
Death Suicide quotes by Jean Baechler
The resolve rising in her soul to die with me drew me I cannot tell you how powerfully, irresistibly to her bosom. Do you remember that I often asked you would you die with me? - But you always said no - A whirlpool of never before experienced happiness has seized hold of me and I cannot deny that her grave is dearer to me than the beds of all the empresses in the world. - Oh, my dear friend, may God soon call you to that better world where we shall all with the love of the angels embrace one another again.
- Adieu. ~ Heinrich Von Kleist
Death Suicide quotes by Heinrich Von Kleist
Everyone thought that things were getting back to normal. They had no idea that normal didn't exist for me any more. Normal had been smashed on the rocks beneath the bridge. ~ Cat Clarke
Death Suicide quotes by Cat Clarke
Everyone absolutely knows what a strawberry tastes like, even if you are allergic to them. Everyone absolutely knows what the toilet flushing sounds like. Everyone absolutely scratches their mosquito bites. And I know that I was absolutely ready to die. This wasn't a cry for help. I didn't want to be saved. I was ready to call it quits. Done. Terminado. ~ Kimberly Russell
Death Suicide quotes by Kimberly Russell
I expect death to be nothingness and, for removing me from all possible fears of death, I am thankful to atheism. ~ Isaac Asimov
Death Suicide quotes by Isaac Asimov
Because all these people have, you see, by this time already killed themselves, where it really counts. By the time these people swallow entire medicine cabinets or take naps in the garage or whatever, they've already been killing themselves for ever so long. When they 'commit suicide', they're just being orderly. ~ David Foster Wallace
Death Suicide quotes by David Foster Wallace
It is unfortunate for the gods that, unlike us, they cannot commit suicide. ~ Ryunosuke Akutagawa
Death Suicide quotes by Ryunosuke Akutagawa
A million people a year kill themselves. Between ten and twenty million people a year try to. Worldwide, men are over three times more likely to kill themselves than women. ~ Matt Haig
Death Suicide quotes by Matt Haig
Celibacy and suicide are a similar levels of understanding, suicide and a martyr's death not so by any means, perhaps marriage and a martyr's death. ~ Franz Kafka
Death Suicide quotes by Franz Kafka
Baby, this town rips the bones from our back it's a death trap, it's a suicide rap. We got to get out while we're young. ~ Bruce Springsteen

According to your medical checkup, you are dead. ~ Rene Desmaison
Death Suicide quotes by Rene Desmaison
If we're bringing up kids that are so stupid that they kill themselves because of a song, what good are the kids in the first place ? ~ Marilyn Manson
Death Suicide quotes by Marilyn Manson
Anne, I don't want to live ... Now listen, life is lovely, but I Can't Live It. I can't even explain. I know how silly it sounds ... but if you knew how it Felt. To be alive, yes, alive, but not be able to live it. Ay that's the rub. I am like a stone that lives ... locked outside of all that's real ... Anne, do you know of such things, can you hear???? I wish, or think I wish, that I were dying of something for then I could be brave, but to be not dying, and yet ... and yet to [be] behind a wall, watching everyone fit in where I can't, to talk behind a gray foggy wall, to live but to not reach or to reach wrong ... to do it all wrong ... believe me, (can you?) ... what's wrong. I want to belong. I'm like a jew who ends up in the wrong country. I'm not a part. I'm not a member. I'm frozen. ~ Anne Sexton
Death Suicide quotes by Anne Sexton
In case the rest of you missed it, the inspirational speech was: 'If you work hard, you can achieve great things. And then you die'. ~ Scott Adams
Death Suicide quotes by Scott Adams
Dead people are all on the same level. ~ Charles Starkweather
Death Suicide quotes by Charles Starkweather
Fulfillment in life is loving a good woman and killing a bad man. ~ Robert A. Heinlein
Death Suicide quotes by Robert A. Heinlein
I'll be mellow when I'm dead. ~ Al Yankovic
Death Suicide quotes by Al Yankovic
You used to believe that with age you would become less unhappy, because you then would have reasons to be sad. When you were still young, your suffering was inconsolable because you believed it to be unfounded. Your suicide was scandalously beautiful…You died because you searched for happiness at the risk of finding the void. We shall have to wait for death before we can know what it is that you found. Or before leaving off knowing anything at all, if it is to be silence and emptiness that awaits us. ~ Edouard Leve
Death Suicide quotes by Edouard Leve
I don't want to be immortal through my works. I want to be immortal by not dying. ~ Woody Allen
Death Suicide quotes by Woody Allen
Her words didn't have the acrid smell of death. ~ Haruki Murakami
Death Suicide quotes by Haruki Murakami
I'm for a stronger death penalty. ~ George W. Bush
Death Suicide quotes by George W. Bush
I'll never forget my grandmother's last words. She said 'What are you doing?' ~ Zach Galifianakis
Death Suicide quotes by Zach Galifianakis
Yes
or rather, it's not so much that I want to die as that I'm tired of living. ~ Ryunosuke Akutagawa
Death Suicide quotes by Ryunosuke Akutagawa
What point is there in dying in a ward, listening to the moans and rasps of the terminally ill? Wouldn't it be better to spend the twenty-seven thousand on a banquet, then, after taking poison, depart for the other world to the sound of violins, surrounded by intoxicated beautiful women and dashing friends? ~ Mikhail Bulgakov
Death Suicide quotes by Mikhail Bulgakov
The suicide? What would he have done if death did not exist? ~ Marty Rubin
Death Suicide quotes by Marty Rubin
Woe to the suicides! I believe that there can be none more miserable than they. Oh, there are some who remain proud and fierce even in hell, in spite of their certain knowledge and contemplation of the absolute truth; there are some fearful ones who have given themselves over to Satan and his proud spirit entirely. For such, hell is voluntary and ever consuming; they are tortured by their own choice. For they have cursed themselves, cursing God and life. And they will burn in the fire of their own wrath forever and yearn for death and annihilation. But they will not attain to death. ~ Fyodor Dostoevsky
Death Suicide quotes by Fyodor Dostoevsky
I knew that I had been partially right in the storeroom above the bar on Christmas Day.
Whoever I had become had to die. ~ Craig Ferguson
Death Suicide quotes by Craig Ferguson
Someone asked me what three things I would save if my house was on fire. I said my cat, my salamander and one of the twins. ~ Ricky Gervais
Death Suicide quotes by Ricky Gervais
A suicide kills two people ... that's what it's for. ~ Arthur Miller
Death Suicide quotes by Arthur Miller
I am only thirty
And like the cat I have nine times to die.

This is Number Three.
What a trash
To annihilate each decade

What a million filaments.
The peanut-crunching crowd
Shoves in to see

Them unwrap me hand and foot -
The big strip tease.
Gentleman, ladies

These are my hands
My knees
I may be skin and bone,

Nevertheless, I am the same, identical woman
The first time it happened I was ten.
It was an accident.

The second time I meant
To last it out and not come back at all.
I rocked shut

As a seashell
They had to call and call
And pick the worms off me like sticky pearls.

Dying
Is an art, like everything else.
I do it exceptionally well.

I do it so it feels like hell.
I do it so it feels real.
I guess you could say I've a call.

It's easy enough to do it in a cell.
It's easy enough to do it and stay put.
It's the theatrical

Comeback in broad day
To that same place, the same face, the same brute
Amused shout:

'A miracle!'
That knocks me out. ~ Sylvia Plath
Death Suicide quotes by Sylvia Plath
What is the charm in dying when we fully well know that we are not going to get another chance at living? ~ Geetha TG
Death Suicide quotes by Geetha TG
I see two lovers looking over the edge of the cauldron of hell. Are they contemplating a double suicide? This means their love will end in hell.' I couldn't stop laughing. ~ Banana Yoshimoto
Death Suicide quotes by Banana Yoshimoto
Erosion, desertification, and pollution have become our lot. It is a weird form of suicide, for we are bleeding our planet to death. ~ Gerald Durrell
Death Suicide quotes by Gerald Durrell
The so-called 'psychotically depressed' person who tries to kill herself doesn't do so out of quote 'hopelessness' or any abstract conviction that life's assets and debits do not square. And surely not because death seems suddenly appealing. The person in whom Its invisible agony reaches a certain unendurable level will kill herself the same way a trapped person will eventually jump from the window of a burning high-rise. Make no mistake about people who leap from burning windows. Their terror of falling from a great height is still just as great as it would be for you or me standing speculatively at the same window just checking out the view; i.e. the fear of falling remains a constant. The variable here is the other terror, the fire's flames: when the flames get close enough, falling to death becomes the slightly less terrible of two terrors. It's not desiring the fall; it's terror of the flames. And yet nobody down on the sidewalk, looking up and yelling 'Don't!' and 'Hang on!', can understand the jump. Not really. You'd have to have personally been trapped and felt flames to really understand a terror way beyond falling. ~ David Foster Wallace
Death Suicide quotes by David Foster Wallace
People who are buried leave
Behind their memories.
People feel sad for them and
Worry, but for the living man,
They are never sorry.
This person, who is the sufferer,
Will never be able to withstand,
The chances snatched from him,
He thinks, "Am I under a ban?"
So he dies, and the world is
Forever in debt
For the man who faced
Death before his death. ~ Umera Ahmed
Death Suicide quotes by Umera Ahmed
Dishonor will not trouble me, once I am dead. ~ Euripides
Death Suicide quotes by Euripides
When I arrived at the house in the suburbs that night I seriously contemplated suicide for the first time in my life. But as I thought about it, the idea became exceedingly tiresome, and I finally decided it would be a ludicrous business. I had an inherent dislike of admitting defeat. Moreover, I told myself, there's no need for me to take such decisive action myself, not when I'm surrounded by such a bountiful harvest of death - death in an air raid, death at one's post of duty, death in the military service, death on the battlefield, death from being run over, death from disease - surely my name has already been entered in the list for one of these: a criminal who has been sentenced to death does not commit suicide. No - no matter how I considered, the season was not auspicious for suicide. Instead I was waiting for something to do me the favor of killing me. And this, in the final analysis, is the same as to say that I was waiting for something to do me the favor of keeping me alive. ~ Yukio Mishima
Death Suicide quotes by Yukio Mishima
Keep Looking Up was my life's admonition
I can do little else in my present position. ~ Jack Horkheimer
Death Suicide quotes by Jack Horkheimer
I think you should live your life so that the maximum number of people will attend your funeral. ~ Scott Adams
Death Suicide quotes by Scott Adams
They really are bad shots. ~ Charles De Gaulle
Death Suicide quotes by Charles De Gaulle
Death is too much for men to bear, whereas women, who are practiced in bearing the deaths of men before their own and who are alsopracticed in bearing life, take death almost in stride. They go to meet death
that is, they attempt suicide
twice as often as men, though men are more "successful" because they use surer weapons, like guns. ~ Roger Rosenblatt
Death Suicide quotes by Roger Rosenblatt
Can you do it? When the time comes? When the time comes there will be no time. Now is the time. Curse God and die. ~ Cormac McCarthy
Death Suicide quotes by Cormac McCarthy
You might argue that my example is bad because Einstein is dead. But according to physicist Erwin Schrodinger, Einstein is neither dead nor alive until we dig him up and open the casket. If he's alive, he might want his brain back, which I understand is in a Ziplock bag in some guy's freezer. And this is a perfect example of why examples always distract from the main point. ~ Scott Adams
Death Suicide quotes by Scott Adams
I wonder if it will rain after we die. When you kill yourself, you don't know what happens next, afterward. ~ Albert Borris
Death Suicide quotes by Albert Borris
I'm going to live forever, or die trying ! ~ Spider Robinson
Death Suicide quotes by Spider Robinson
Suicide leaves everyone feeling guilty. ~ Robert Harris

Sun, I come to see you for the last time. ~ Jean Racine
Death Suicide quotes by Jean Racine
I told you I was sick. ~ Spike Milligan
Death Suicide quotes by Spike Milligan
Don't try to add more years to your life. Better add more life to your years. ~ Blaise Pascal
Death Suicide quotes by Blaise Pascal
I'm so not ready to die. It petrifies me. I go alone. I go to a place I don't know. It might be painful. It might be the end. My thought is that it is the end. I become nameless, and I spent a lifetime being known. ~ William Shatner
Death Suicide quotes by William Shatner
The human population is 90% gullible, violence-prone dipshits. ~ Scott Adams
Death Suicide quotes by Scott Adams
A sleep without dreams, after a rough day of toil, is what we covet most; and yet
How clay shrinks back from more quiescent clay!
The very Suicide that pays his debt at once without installments
(an old way of paying debts, which creditors regret)
Lets out impatiently his rushing breath, less from disgust of life than dread of death. ~ Lord Byron
Death Suicide quotes by Lord Byron
Prate not to me of suicide, Faint heart in battle, not for pride I say Endure, but that such end denied Makes welcomer yet the death that's to be died. ~ Stevie Smith
Death Suicide quotes by Stevie Smith
Sadness and boredom were more bearable than the effort of living a normal life. Perhaps the idea of death began to hover over her during that period, as a kind of higher order of lassitude in which she would not have to move the blood in her veins or the air in her lungs; her repose would be absolute- not to think, not to feel, not to be. ~ Isabel Allende
Death Suicide quotes by Isabel Allende
He that cuts off twenty years of life
Cuts off so many years of fearing death. ~ Horace
Death Suicide quotes by Horace
We both know the other's survival means our own death ~ Suzanne Collins
Death Suicide quotes by Suzanne Collins
In the creation of the heavens and the earth; in the alternation of night and day; in the ships that sail the ocean bearing cargoes beneficial to man; in the water which God sends down from the sky and with which He revives the earth after its death, scattering over it all kinds of animals; in the courses of the winds, and in the clouds pressed into service between earth and sky, there are indeed signs for people who use their reason. ~ Anonymous
Death Suicide quotes by Anonymous
In the end, Leck should have stuck to his lies. For it was the truth he almost told that killed him. ~ Kristin Cashore
Death Suicide quotes by Kristin Cashore
Those who have been immersed in the tragedy of massive death during wartime, and who have faced it squarely, never allowing their senses and feelings to become numbed and indifferent, have emerged from their experiences with growth and humanness greater than that achieved through almost any other means. ~ Elisabeth Kubler Ross
Death Suicide quotes by Elisabeth Kubler Ross
The thing about divorce is, there isn't always one mistake. One nuclear
bomb dropped on a couple that destroys their marriage. Sometimes, it creeps
up on you slowly. And one day, realization hits and all you know is that you
don't want to be married anymore. Maybe a nuclear bomb would have been
better than slowly burning to death. Maybe that wouldn't make you feel like
such a failure. It kills you to give up, but you know it's the right decision.
Because if you keep going, you'll hate each other. ~ Devney Perry
Death Suicide quotes by Devney Perry
Life rises out of death, death rises out of life; in being opposite they yearn to each other, they give birth to each other and are forever reborn. And with them, all is reborn, the flower of the apple tree, the light of the stars. In life is death. In death is rebirth. What then is life without death? Life unchanging, everlasting, eternal?-What is it but death-death without rebirth? ~ Ursula K. Le Guin
Death Suicide quotes by Ursula K. Le Guin
Hess had long thought of death with indifference. Not because he hated life, but because existence was painful. ~ Søren Sveistrup
Death Suicide quotes by Søren Sveistrup
What is any of this to us? Time is endless and ours. Love and Death are only the games we play in it. ~ Tanith Lee
Death Suicide quotes by Tanith Lee
Nothing which we are to perceive in this world equals
the power of your intense fragility:whose texture
compels me with the colour of its countries,
rendering death and forever with each breathing
(i do not know what it is about you that closes
and opens;only something in me understands
the voice of your eyes is deeper than all roses)
nobody, not even the rain, has such small hands
-excerpt of #35 from 100 Selected Poems ~ E. E. Cummings
Death Suicide quotes by E. E. Cummings
We accept without reservation the scriptural teachings that Christ is the Son of God and that he came into the world to ransom men from the spiritual and temporal death brought into the world by the fall of Adam. No one can state too plainly or emphasize too strongly this eternal truth that salvation is in Christ and that it comes because of his atoning sacrifice. Nor can we set forth too clearly the gospel truth that we also must do certain things to be saved. ~ Joseph Fielding Smith
Death Suicide quotes by Joseph Fielding Smith
There were several reasons for the disrepute into which opera fell. Among the first of these was the fact that opera bore the "taint" of Wagner about it. For at least thirty years after his death, the entire musical world made heroic efforts to throw off the terrific impact of Wagner. That is no reflection on his music. It simply means that each new generation must create its own music; and it was a very difficult thing to do, particularly in the opera house, immediately after Wagner had lived. ~ Aaron Copland
Death Suicide quotes by Aaron Copland
Grief is no more necessary when we understand death than fear is necessary when we understand flying. ~ Richard Bach
Death Suicide quotes by Richard Bach
The most important thing I learnt on Tralfamadore was that when a person dies he only appears to die. He is still very much alive in the past, so it is very silly for people to cry at his funeral. All moments, past, present, and future, always have existed, always will exist. The Tralfamadorians can look at all the different moments just the way we can look at a stretch of the Rocky Mountains, for instance. They can see how permanent all the moments are, and they can look at any moment that interests them. It is an illusion we have here on Earth that one moment follows another one, like beads on a string, and that once a moment is gone it is gone forever. When any Tralfamadorian sees a corpse, all he thinks is that the dead person is in a bad condition in that particular moment, but that the same person is just fine in plenty of other moments. ~ Kurt Vonnegut
Death Suicide quotes by Kurt Vonnegut
Life has vanquished death and even the furniture celebrates. ~ Salman Rushdie
Death Suicide quotes by Salman Rushdie
How some dare scorn (as if a fabulous lie) that they should rise whom death to dust doth bind
and like to beasts, a beastly life they lead, who naught attend save death when they are dead. ~ William Alexander, 1st Earl Of Stirling
Death Suicide quotes by William Alexander, 1st Earl Of Stirling
Mother's intentions were always sound, never muddy; I don't imagine that she troubled herself to feel very guilty. But the Rev. Mr. Merrill was a man who took to wallowing in guilt; his remorse, after all, was all he had to cling to-especially after his scant courage left him, and he was forced to acknowledge that he would never be brave enough to abandon his miserable wife and children for my mother. He would continue to torture himself, of course, with the insistent and self-destructive notion that he loved my mother. I suppose that his "love" of my mother was as intellectually detached from feeling and action as his "belief" was also subject to his immense capacity for remote and unrealistic interpretation. My mother was a healthier animal; when he said he wouldn't leave his family for her, she simply put him out of her mind and went on singing.

But as incapable as he was of a heartfelt response to a real situation, the Rev. Mr. Merrill was tirelessly capable of thinking; he pondered and brooded and surmised and second-guessed my mother to death. ~ John Irving
