In being everything for everyone, when am I anything for myself? ~ Malebo Sephodi
Feminist Self Care quotes by Malebo Sephodi
She told herself it wasn't wrong to do what she most felt like doing in that moment. ~ Zoje Stage
Feminist Self Care quotes by Zoje Stage
In a state of grace with myself, I do not abandon myself when the going gets tough or should others find me antithetical in any way in their frames of reference. Loyalty means care and kindness at all times, and particularly when they are needed to reduce the pain of difficult times. I never, absolutely never, side with anyone who is against my welfare. I aid nobody who detracts from my dignity, who makes me feel less than human either through subhuman onslaughts or superhuman demands. I fight or avoid people whose effect is ultimately destructive to my validity as a person, or who in any way dilute my ability to take myself seriously. ~ Theodore Isaac Rubin
Feminist Self Care quotes by Theodore Isaac Rubin
Some might call my trepidation at the idea of motherhood "selfishness" - I would call it "agency" - but those people are probably either (1) dudes or (2) self-satisfied professional parents, and I'm not sure I care enough about their opinions that I wouldn't just agree with them and shrug my shoulders in shared chagrin. ~ Anna Holmes
Feminist Self Care quotes by Anna Holmes
Half of me is filled with bursting words and half of me is painfully shy. I crave solitude yet also crave people. I want to pour life and love into everything yet also nurture my self-care and go gently. I want to live within the rush of primal, intuitive decision, yet also wish to sit and contemplate. This is the messiness of life - that we all carry multitudes, so must sit with the shifts. We are complicated creatures, and ultimately, the balance comes from this understanding. Be water. Flowing, flexible and soft. Subtly powerful and open. Wild and serene. Able to accept all changes, yet still led by the pull of steady tides. It is enough. ~ Victoria Erickson
Feminist Self Care quotes by Victoria Erickson
Caregivers had to take care of themselves, and part of that meant having a life beyond whatever illness had put them in their cole. ~ J.R. Ward
Feminist Self Care quotes by J.R. Ward
She had presumably decided that the problem was the village, and if everybody in the village was gone, they would have to bring John back to take care of her. It was the sort of plan a child would come up with - simple, self-centered, and utterly heartless. ~ T. Kingfisher
Feminist Self Care quotes by T. Kingfisher
While excellence is a wonderful ideal, perfectionism is a dysfunctional belief system. Many people openly admit that they are perfectionists, which is really an unconscious cry for help. Being a perfectionist is really stating that whatever we attempt to do will never be good enough. This is due to a mistaken belief that we are flawed and unlovable. ~ Christopher Dines
Feminist Self Care quotes by Christopher Dines
Knowing how to be solitary is central to the art of loving. When we can be alone, we can be with others without using them as a means of escape. ~ Bell Hooks
Feminist Self Care quotes by Bell Hooks
This book felt, at times, entirely impossible, but a lot of people made it possible. I'll start with my son, Orin, who reminded me to take frequent breaks by pointing to my computer and saying, "Close it. ~ Hank Green
Feminist Self Care quotes by Hank Green
Why can't a young lady, learn how to cook, clean and wash clothes so she can learn how to take care of herself? It is imperative that a young lady should know how to love and take care of herself first before she feels she can love and take care of anyone else.
That is where the mistakes begin. A young lady is brought up to put others first. This is when a woman grows up and plays the fool for others because her self-worth was never built on solid ground. Instead, it was built on being a "people pleaser" and putting her life on the back burner.
Consequently, her feelings didn't matter, and her thoughts didn't exist because for so long she was taught to put other people before herself. The question that is never asked is, what happens when a woman (who was once a young lady groomed to give every ounce of herself) loses herself to the point where she has to find a way to dig herself out of the deepest hole? This seems impossible. She doesn't know how because she wasn't ever taught how to express her feelings, troubles, and/or grieve. ~ Charlena E. Jackson
Feminist Self Care quotes by Charlena E. Jackson
I would like to say that, as the protester finished his shower, I was disturbed by the contradiction between my avowed political materialism and my inexperience with this brand of making, of poeisis, but I could dodge or dampen that contradiction via my hatred of Brooklyn's boutique biopolitics, in which spending obscene sums and endless hours on stylized food preparation somehow enabled the conflation of self-care and political radicalism. ~ Ben Lerner
Feminist Self Care quotes by Ben Lerner
I sat down and read out loud a statement on the box, a message from the Celestial realm.
If I had my child to raise all over again, I'd finger paint more, and point the finger less. I'd do less correcting, and more connecting. I'd take my eyes off my watch, and watch with my eyes. I would care to know less, and know to care more. I'd take more hikes and fly more kites. I'd stop playing serious, and seriously play. I would run through more fields and gaze at more stars. I'd do more hugging, and less tugging. I would be firm less often, and affirm much more. I'd build self-esteem first, and the house later. I'd teach less about the love of power, And more about the power of love.
-Diane Loomans, Full Esteem Ahead ~ Carol Lynn Pearson
Feminist Self Care quotes by Carol Lynn Pearson
Svetlana said that I thought of myself as a robot who could act only negatively. She said I had cynical ideas about language. "You think language is an end in itself. You don't believe it stands for anything. No, it's not that you don't believe - it's that you don't care. For you, language itself is a self-sufficient system."

"But it is a self-sufficient system."

"Do you see what you're saying? This is how you get yourself involved with the devil incarnate. Ivan sensed this attitude in you. He's cynical in the same way you are only more so, because of math. It's like you said: math is a language that started out so abstract, more abstract than words, and then suddenly it turned out to be the most real, the most physical thing there was. With math they built the atomic bomb. Suddenly this abstract language is leaving third-degree burns on your skin. Now there's this special language that can control everything, and manipulate everything, and if you're the elite who speaks it - you can control everything.

"Ivan wanted to try an experiment, a game. It would never have worked with someone different, on someone like me. But you, you're so disconnected from truth, you were so ready to jump into a reality the two of you made up, just through language. Naturally, it made him want to see how far he could go. You went further and further - and then something went wrong. It couldn't continue in the same way. It had to develop into something else - int ~ Elif Batuman
Feminist Self Care quotes by Elif Batuman
How do you not try to get something you want?
How do you stop caring about the thing that you care about the most?
How do you erase the other half of your own self? ~ Jerry Spinelli
Feminist Self Care quotes by Jerry Spinelli
When I've lost weight, some fans get very upset because they want me to stay curvy. But my own self-worth and wellness regime has to do with my well-being and longevity, so if I make the choice to take care of myself, and the outcome is losing weight, it's disappointing that there might be some backlash. ~ Sara Ramirez
Feminist Self Care quotes by Sara Ramirez
You got shook and shook till there was nothing left. You lost your name and your body and your self and you just didn't care. ~ Anthony Burgess
Feminist Self Care quotes by Anthony Burgess
I don't care'
'You do.' Her inner voice! ~ Jyoti Patel
Feminist Self Care quotes by Jyoti Patel
First and foremost, if we maintain healthy emotional boundaries and direct love and kindness inwards, we are taking care of ourselves and secondly we are giving a subliminal message to others about how we wish to be treated. People tend to subconsciously treat us how we treat ourselves. ~ Christopher Dines
Feminist Self Care quotes by Christopher Dines
Maybe it's easier to conform, to stay in a job I hate to pay bills of the things I don't even enjoy and marry a man I'm not passionately in love with, whilst surrounded by those who have absolutely no life to their smile but I don't want easy. I never have. I want a life so fucking grande' I reach every little milestone in sweats or tears knowing I Followed what was true to my heart. I don't care if I walk alone for the rest of my days, if it means I get to stay true to myself. ~ Nikki Rowe
Feminist Self Care quotes by Nikki Rowe
X-awake. X-elegant. ~ Lailah Gifty Akita
Feminist Self Care quotes by Lailah Gifty Akita
Don't aim for perfection. Aim for 'better than yesterday'. ~ Izey Victoria Odiase
Feminist Self Care quotes by Izey Victoria Odiase
I have to take care of myself. It's about self-preservation. ~ Danielle De Niese
Feminist Self Care quotes by Danielle De Niese
Are you willing to care enough to get hurt? ~ Michele McKnight Baker
Feminist Self Care quotes by Michele McKnight Baker
The reality is that there are plenty of trustworthy people in the world rebuilding their lives. It was a very gradual process for me to open up and talk about what was really going on in my recovery. The more I started to take risks by talking to others, however, the more I had an opportunity to exercise boundaries. As I asserted new boundaries, I started to gravitate towards people with integrity, warmheartedness and decency. ~ Christopher Dines
Feminist Self Care quotes by Christopher Dines
And so, a prediction, and my heartfelt wish for you: as you get older, your self will diminish and you will grow in love. YOU will gradually be replaced by LOVE. If you have kids, that will be a huge moment in your process of self-diminishment. You really won't care what happens to YOU, as long as they benefit. That's one reason your parents are so proud and happy today. One of their fondest dreams has come true: you have accomplished something difficult and tangible that has enlarged you as a person and will make your life better, from here on in, forever. ~ George Saunders
Feminist Self Care quotes by George Saunders
For us to feel good emotionally, we have to look after ourselves. ~ Sam Owen
Feminist Self Care quotes by Sam Owen
With regard to complex trauma survivors, self-determination and autonomy require that the therapist treat each client as the "authority" in determining the meaning and interpretation of his or her personal life history, including (but not limited to) traumatic experiences (Harvey, 1996). Therapists can inadvertently misappropriate the client's authority over the meaning and significance of her or his memories (and associated symptoms, such as intrusive reexperiencing or dissociative flashbacks) by suggesting specific "expert" interpretations of the memories or symptoms. Clients who feel profoundly abandoned by key caregivers may appear deeply grateful for such interpretations and pronouncements by their therapists, because they can fulfill a deep longing for a substitute parent who makes sense of the world or takes care of them. However, this delegation of authority to the therapist can backfire if the client cannot, or does not, take ownership of her or his own memories or life story by determining their personal meaning. Moreover, the client can be trapped in a stance of avoidance because trauma memories are never experienced, processed, and put to rest. Helping a client to develop a core sense of relational security and the capacity to regulate (and recover from) extreme hyper- or hypoarousal is essential if the client is to achieve a self-determined and autonomous approach to defining the meaning and impact of trauma memories, a crucial goal of posttraumatic therapy. ~ Christine A. Courtois
Feminist Self Care quotes by Christine A. Courtois
She's a dope spirit in clay body. ~ Kierra C.T. Banks
Feminist Self Care quotes by Kierra C.T. Banks
Even you, the professional helper, often mistaken for the enlightened Guru or Staretz, can become lost in your thoughts that you must be competent without fault. You may become enthralled with your identity as a professional, even the pressures of the culture of mastery that expects you to heal your clients without fail. Never mind all of the variables over which you have no control, it is up to you, according to the canons of mastery, to control the health and well-being of those for whom you provide professional care. This potentiates a furthering alienation between you and your clients. You are at risk to become, if you have not already, the one who does to your clients; to be the one the active subject acting upon the passive and receptive objects, your clients; to be the one in possession of special knowledge, technique and mastery. All of this conspires to coax or coerce you into treating your client as reduced, a mere case. Unawareness to these influences gives you little chance to consider their influence on your practice in the clinical setting, much less give attentive efforts to resist or change them. ~ Scott E. Spradlin
Feminist Self Care quotes by Scott E. Spradlin
But after a while, she began to experience the new reality of each person as being as strong and as weak as anyone else. Slowly, she learned that each of us grown-ups has as much and as little power as the other, and that we had best learn to take care of ourselves.(83) ~ Sheldon B. Kopp
Feminist Self Care quotes by Sheldon B. Kopp
I wanted to be self-sufficient, I wanted to take care of myself, and I wanted to learn. I wanted to travel, I wanted to see the world and have my eyes opened. I wanted to be consistently challenged, and I knew I needed to be creative in some way. When I got my job in a bar and I could pay for my tuition and go on auditions and sometimes get jobs that I loved and pay my rent, I knew that I would be all right. That's when my dreams came true, long before the telephone rang and someone said, 'Come and meet Tom Cruise'. ~ Renee Zellweger
Feminist Self Care quotes by Renee Zellweger
Historically, rose petals were valued for their medicinal qualities than their aesthetic qualities. Rose has antidepressant properties. ~ Amy Leigh Mercree
Feminist Self Care quotes by Amy Leigh Mercree
Tantra is for the person who has self control but doesn't care anymore. It is for the person who is able to abandon self-control and its fixation. ~ Frederick Lenz
Feminist Self Care quotes by Frederick Lenz
I'm proud to call myself a feminist and am proud to say I have two young boys who are self-proclaimed feminists as well. ~ Dyllan McGee
Feminist Self Care quotes by Dyllan McGee
I have learned that self-mastery and the consistent care of one's mind, body and soul are essential to finding one's highest self and living the life of one's dreams. How can you care for others if you cannot even care for yourself? How can you do good if you don't even feel good? I can't love you if I cannot love myself, he offered. ~ Anonymous
Feminist Self Care quotes by Anonymous
My body is holy temple. ~ Lailah Gifty Akita
Feminist Self Care quotes by Lailah Gifty Akita
In the midst of a turbulent, often chaotic, life we are called to reach out, with courageous honesty to our innermost self, with relentless care to our fellow human beings, and with increasing prayer to our God. ~ Henri J.M. Nouwen
