When you can begin to see the similarities between you and your work colleagues in respect of 'being human' and the collective challenges we all face, it makes life much easier to deal with, especially when met with overbearing behaviour. ~ Christopher Dines
Mindfulness Burnout Prevention quotes by Christopher Dines
Things sometimes go our way and sometimes they don't. All we can do is apply ourselves to our profession, giving our very best effort but emotionally letting go of the outcome. Why? Because if we obsess about an outcome, we cannot possibly honour the present moment. ~ Christopher Dines
Mindfulness Burnout Prevention quotes by Christopher Dines
The incredible benefits of practising and applying mindfulness and self-compassion in the workplace are being increasingly recognised by human resource professionals as well as the medical profession, as the stresses of competing in today's global economy take their toll on the mental health and emotional wellbeing of many otherwise talented and enthusiastic individuals in the workplace. ~ Christopher Dines
Mindfulness Burnout Prevention quotes by Christopher Dines
Many of us have been unconsciously programmed to treat walking as a means to an end, especially while in the workplace. Naturally, a lack of mindfulness while walking leaves one hostage to self-perpetuating stress and anxiety.
We rush (often while shouting into a mobile phone), completely missing the enjoyment of walking. Walking and breathing, if practised harmoniously, can be peaceful and thoroughly enjoyable. Even walking down a corridor or into an office or wherever we are working or being of service can be a harmonious action. ~ Christopher Dines
Mindfulness Burnout Prevention quotes by Christopher Dines
Through practising body scan awareness meditation, we can greatly reduce the detrimental effects of stress and make our working lives pleasant and enjoyable. ~ Christopher Dines
Mindfulness Burnout Prevention quotes by Christopher Dines
Like gratitude, authentic appreciation in the workplace is a realisation that can be nurtured and accessed with daily mindful practice.
By and large, people who are grateful, happy and enthusiastic are going to demonstrate better performance than those who are unhappy and unappreciative. There is increasing evidence that a grateful mindset amplifies happiness and mental and emotional wellbeing. ~ Christopher Dines
Mindfulness Burnout Prevention quotes by Christopher Dines
When the weeks have built up with frustration and immense stress and one of your co-workers, a manager or an employee triggers irritation or angers you, knowing how to respond in a mindful way can pay huge dividends. Knowing how to not take other people's emotional baggage personally and intuitively sensing when to bring up concerns and when not to is an expression of emotional intelligence. This is all possible if we are being truly mindful. ~ Christopher Dines
Mindfulness Burnout Prevention quotes by Christopher Dines
Whether someone is a CEO of a major corporation or is serving meals in a diner, failure to adopt a mindful approach will mean that mental and emotional exhaustion could become a habitual condition. Whether someone is stressed about their stocks losing value or being able to pay their bills, the internal underlying conditions of stress and pressure are essentially the same. ~ Christopher Dines
Mindfulness Burnout Prevention quotes by Christopher Dines
It is impossible to control outcomes or results, although most of us have been programmed from a very young age to believe otherwise. The idea that we can perform actual 'magic' causes tremendous dysfunction, unnecessary suffering and prevents the development of emotional resilience. ~ Christopher Dines
Mindfulness Burnout Prevention quotes by Christopher Dines
To be self-compassionate is not to be self-indulgent or self-centred. A major component of self-compassion is to be kind to yourself. Treat yourself with love, care, dignity and make your wellbeing a priority. With self-compassion, we still hold ourselves accountable professionally and personally, but there are no toxic emotions inflicted upon and towards ourselves. ~ Christopher Dines
Mindfulness Burnout Prevention quotes by Christopher Dines
Conscious breathing anchors us into the nowness of life and gives us a fresh outlook, no different from how a baby observes reality without mental commentary. The baby enjoys watching the world and human activity without any limiting mental concepts spoiling his or her perception. Naturally, we all have to evolve from the helpless state of babyhood, but to be able to tap into that wonderful ability and truly BE in the moment is immensely liberating. ~ Christopher Dines
Mindfulness Burnout Prevention quotes by Christopher Dines
The process of applying Mindfulness Burnout Prevention (MBP) in the workplace or any environment has a much more far-reaching effect than simply accessing equanimity throughout the vicissitudes of life. Continuous learning helps us to stay youthful, sharpen our mental faculties and wire new neural connections in our brain (making us better equipped to accomplish); it is also a sign of humility. ~ Christopher Dines
Mindfulness Burnout Prevention quotes by Christopher Dines
The word 'pranayama', often referred to as alternate breathing, comes from the Sanskrit meaning 'extension of life force' or 'extension of breath'. At times, we are going to have days where we are bombarded with one task after another.

This simple yet effective meditation only takes a couple of minutes and its calming qualities can be felt almost immediately. It is one of the easiest meditation techniques to apply. This practice is well worth applying at least three or four times a day (somewhere private) to develop emotional balance and evenness of mind, especially in the working environment. ~ Christopher Dines
Mindfulness Burnout Prevention quotes by Christopher Dines
The human brain is incredible in its capacity to heal and rewire itself. The human brain can be shaped and trained to be more resilient, calm, compassionate and alert - we can condition ourselves to be successful. Through mindfulness meditation, we can literally re-wire our brains through new experiences, which modify our neural network and our neural chemistry. Mindfulness also enhances gamma synchrony and improves the function of the human brain. ~ Christopher Dines
Mindfulness Burnout Prevention quotes by Christopher Dines
First and foremost, if we maintain healthy emotional boundaries and direct love and kindness inwards, we are taking care of ourselves and secondly we are giving a subliminal message to others about how we wish to be treated. People tend to subconsciously treat us how we treat ourselves. ~ Christopher Dines
Mindfulness Burnout Prevention quotes by Christopher Dines
Choosing to spend energy on your relationships will be much more fulfilling than wasting it on unnecessary clutter and accumulating "things" that in the long run don't really matter anyway. Most of us will not be canonized in history books nor have monuments built in our honor because of what we owned or the things we accomplished at work. Our legacy will be found in the lives and endeavors that were enriched while we were passing through this life. ~ Brent Bost
Mindfulness Burnout Prevention quotes by Brent Bost
Stress, burnout and strain on the human heart are all increasingly taking their toll for millions of hardworking people. However, even someone who is working in a job that simply 'pays the bills' can turn mundane and stressful tasks into pleasant activities with a slight adjustment in attitude and by adopting a daily mindful practice. ~ Christopher Dines
Mindfulness Burnout Prevention quotes by Christopher Dines
The moments of silence are gone. We run from them into the rush of unimportant things, so filled is the quiet with the painful whispers of all that goes unspoken. Busy-ness is our drug of choice, numbing our minds just enough to keep us from dwelling on all that we fear we can't change. A compilation of coping mechanisms, we have become our fatigue. Unwilling or unable to cut ourselves free of this modern machine we have built, we're dragged in its wake all too quickly toward our end. The virtue of a society's culture is reflected in the physical, mental, and emotional health of its people. The time has come to part ways with all that is toxic, and preserve our quality of life. ~ L.M. Browning
Mindfulness Burnout Prevention quotes by L.M. Browning
What can we do to maintain slowness in the face of those periods of busyness? How can we avoid overload, exhaustion, or even burnout?
Perhaps unsurprisingly, my answer is simply to pay attention.
I recognize the way I'm inclined to stay up late, the way I will procrastinate at every option- and instead of spiraling into that overwhelming sense of too much, I check in with myself.
Why am I feeling this way? What has changed? What is there more of? What is there less of?
Become better at recognizing the signs of a looming backslide and pay close attention to the areas of our lives that have the greatest impact, ensuring they never slip too far out of hand.
Nicholas Bate refers to this regular checking in as "taking your MEDS" or more specifically, paying attention to:

- Mindfulness
- Exercise
- Diet
- Sleep

Once I recognize which of these areas has changed, its simpler (not necessarily easier) to recognize the issue and start fixing it. Sometimes the changes aren't in my control, so I need to look for ways of finding slow by creating more opportunities for a moment of deep breathing or paying close attention to whats in front of me. But other times, I've simply lost sight of what works, and its a matter of adding more of these things I've neglected- Mindfulness, simplicity, kindness- and reducing the things that don't serve me well.
Above all else, though, I simply go back to my Why.
I call to mind the ~ Brooke McAlary
Mindfulness Burnout Prevention quotes by Brooke McAlary
When emotions turn and stay sour, when thoughts become cynical and judgmental, good and compassionate treatment is on the line. Helpers who become sour and cynical tend to begrudge their high need clients for their neediness. There is a risk that helpers become too well-practiced at taking a bleak view of those they have avowed to assist. There is a temptation to begin to blame clients for their failure to improve. If treatment ends pre-maturely, with either a client never returning to treatment or a helper 'firing' them out of frustration, there is a tendency for the client to take the fall. Of course what we are talking about here are signs of burnout. ~ Scott E. Spradlin
Mindfulness Burnout Prevention quotes by Scott E. Spradlin
As helpers, we often feel the need to see our impact in tangible, measurable ways. We allow negative language into our head about the "broken system;" we look through a lens of "it doesn't matter, I can't make a difference". These ideas are surely contributing to our burnout. ~ Jenn Bruer
Mindfulness Burnout Prevention quotes by Jenn Bruer
For disease prevention, berries of all colors have "emerged as champions," according to the head of the Bioactive Botanical Research Laboratory.39 The purported anticancer properties of berry compounds have been attributed to their apparent ability to counteract, reduce, and repair damage resulting from oxidative stress and inflammation.40 But it wasn't known until recently that berries may also boost your levels of natural killer cells. ~ Michael Greger
Mindfulness Burnout Prevention quotes by Michael Greger
[T]o be forever looking beyond is to remain blind to what is here. ~ Alan W. Watts
Mindfulness Burnout Prevention quotes by Alan W. Watts
If you really want to be right (or at least improve the odds of being right), you have to start by acknowledging your fallibility, deliberately seeking out your mistakes, and figuring out what caused you to make them. This truth has long been recognized in domains where being right is not just a zingy little ego boost but a matter of real urgency: in transportation, industrial design, food and drug safety, nuclear energy, and so forth. When they are at their best, such domains have a productive obsession with error. They try to imagine every possible reason a mistake could occur, they prevent as many of them as possible, and they conduct exhaustive postmortems on the ones that slip through. By embracing error as inevitable, these industries are better able to anticipate mistakes, prevent them, and respond appropriately when those prevention efforts fail. ~ Kathryn Schulz
Mindfulness Burnout Prevention quotes by Kathryn Schulz
Here was my choice: I could continue down the well-trod path upon which I'd been running for so very long and pass along the inheritance like a baton, as blithely as I did my light hair and fair skin. My daughter could do her best to outrun it...
Or I could slow down, catch my breath, and look mindfully for a new path. There had to be another way and I owed it to my daughter to find it. ~ Adrienne Brodeur
Mindfulness Burnout Prevention quotes by Adrienne Brodeur
The function of mindfulness is, first, to recognize the suffering and then to take care of the suffering. The work of mindfulness is first to recognize the suffering and second to embrace it. A mother taking care of a crying baby naturally will take the child into her arms without suppressing, judging it, or ignoring the crying. Mindfulness is like that mother, recognizing and embracing suffering without judgement.
So the practice is not to fight or suppress the feeling, but rather to cradle it with a lot of tenderness. When a mother embraces her child, that energy of tenderness begins to penetrate into the body of the child. Even if the mother doesn't understand at first why the child is suffering and she needs some time to find out what the difficulty is, just her acto f taking the child into her arms with tenderness can alreadby bring relief. If we can recognize and cradle the suffering while we breathe mindfully, there is relief already. ~ Thich Nhat Hanh
Mindfulness Burnout Prevention quotes by Thich Nhat Hanh
For sixty years I have been forgetful every minute, but not for a second has this flowing toward me stopped or slowed. ~ Rumi
Mindfulness Burnout Prevention quotes by Rumi
The love of God is so hot than a burning coal. It burns the heart and warms the chest; while at the same time calming the mind like still water. ~ Mwanandeke Kindembo
Mindfulness Burnout Prevention quotes by Mwanandeke Kindembo
Nature herself does not distinguish between what seed it receives. It grows whatever seed is planted; this is the way life works. Be mindful of the seeds you plant today, as they will become the crop you harvest. ~ Mary Morrissey
Mindfulness Burnout Prevention quotes by Mary Morrissey
I do not think either virginity or old age contemptible, and some of the shrewdest minds I have met inhabited the bodies of old maids. ~ C.S. Lewis
Mindfulness Burnout Prevention quotes by C.S. Lewis
We are so absorbed in our thoughts that every thought that comes through is a reality. We have to start to detach ourselves from thought and become aware that there are things beyond thought. ~ Frederick Lenz
Mindfulness Burnout Prevention quotes by Frederick Lenz
We commit to the daily disciplined practices of meditation, yoga, exercise, wise actions, kindness, forgiveness, generosity, compassion, appreciation, and moment-to-moment mindfulness of feelings, emotions, thoughts, and sensations. We are developing the skillful means of knowing how to apply the appropriate meditation or action to the given circumstance. ~ Noah Levine
Mindfulness Burnout Prevention quotes by Noah Levine
Patience requires a slowing down, a spaciousness, a sense of ease. ~ Allan Lokos
Mindfulness Burnout Prevention quotes by Allan Lokos
I mind the unmindful, but I mind my own mind too. Mine your mind, and mine the minds of others. Mind.. you are mine! ~ Justin K. McFarlane Beau
Mindfulness Burnout Prevention quotes by Justin K. McFarlane Beau
Mindfulness gives you time. Time gives you choices. Choices, skillfully made, lead to freedom. You don't have to be swept away by your feeling. You can respond with wisdom and kindness rather than habit and reactivity. ~ Henepola Gunaratana
Mindfulness Burnout Prevention quotes by Henepola Gunaratana
If your heart is still beating, God is not done with you yet. ~ Dillon Burroughs
Mindfulness Burnout Prevention quotes by Dillon Burroughs
We must dare to be true to ourselves – to see ourselves as we really are. ~ Annika Sorensen
Mindfulness Burnout Prevention quotes by Annika Sorensen
Mindfulness can serve as an antidote to living a fragmental life riven with deleterious delusions and illusions. ~ Kilroy J. Oldster
Mindfulness Burnout Prevention quotes by Kilroy J. Oldster
Simply BEING is OKAY you know?
If you make space to 'be', your 'doing' becomes whole and balanced. ~ Kelly Martin
Mindfulness Burnout Prevention quotes by Kelly Martin
You're only as good as you're next thought of yourself. ~ Curtis Tyrone Jones
Mindfulness Burnout Prevention quotes by Curtis Tyrone Jones
No one can control their results. We can, however, control our attitude. When we practise compassion, it is most effective when it is unconditional and free from seeking an outcome – compassion is a matter of choice rather than a self-seeking action. And so, if we assist another human being from a place of presence and compassion, we are not looking to find our happiness off the back of others' suffering. Nor are we trying to control them. Compassion is a conscious choice rather than an emotional knee-jerk reaction. ~ Christopher Dines
Mindfulness Burnout Prevention quotes by Christopher Dines
Look at how beautiful life is, and just keep looking until you see it. You don't see what is in front of you because you're so distracted by your thoughts. ~ Frederick Lenz
Mindfulness Burnout Prevention quotes by Frederick Lenz
The single greatest impediment to error prevention in the medical industry is that we punish people for making mistakes, ~ Lucian Leape
Mindfulness Burnout Prevention quotes by Lucian Leape
Seeked of self love. ~ Nikki Rowe
Mindfulness Burnout Prevention quotes by Nikki Rowe
Gain control of the mind and make it still, initially just during periods of meditation, but then throughout the day and throughout the night. ~ Frederick Lenz
Mindfulness Burnout Prevention quotes by Frederick Lenz
A cancer is not simply a lung cancer. It doesn't simply have a certain kind of appearance under the microscope or a certain behavior, but it also has a set of changes in the genes or in the molecules that modify gene behavior that allows us to categorize cancers in ways that is very useful in thinking about new ways to control cancer by prevention and treatment. ~ Harold E. Varmus
Mindfulness Burnout Prevention quotes by Harold E. Varmus
Imagine you're at a movie, and the person sitting in front of you is so huge and fat you can't see the screen because he's completely blocking your view. He's also talking loudly, so you can't hear the movie.

That person is you. You can't see the perfection of your life, as it is right now, because you're in your own way. ~ Barry Graham
Mindfulness Burnout Prevention quotes by Barry Graham
Looking for some peace? Close your eyes, take a few deep breaths....That inner connection and peace are always available to you, at any moment. ~ Nanette Mathews
Mindfulness Burnout Prevention quotes by Nanette Mathews
God speaks to you all the time ~ Have you tuned in to the cosmic vibrations of love, harmony, peace, and truth? Unless you quieten that blabbering little mind of yours, you won't be able to listen to the Divine music that plays on and on...
Just for one heavenly second, shut your eyes, ears, and mind to the cacophonous noises of this physical, illusionary, temporary world. Exit all the drama.
Just for that one heavenly second, stay quiet and simply listen. Listen to the ambrosial sound. It vibrates with joy.
You can have more of this soulful peace in your life, if only you choose to align yourself with the Source of Love and Light. The more you stay attuned to "Home", the less you'd wander in-vain. ~ Manprit Kaur
Mindfulness Burnout Prevention quotes by Manprit Kaur
Life energy is the key to health. It prevents and cures diseases. Longevity is consistent care of life energy. ~ Julia H. Sun
Mindfulness Burnout Prevention quotes by Julia H. Sun
A child has a deep longing to discover that the World is based on Truth. Respect that longing. In our attempt to help children grow into Inspired Adults, we wish them to carry the Youthfulness of their Souls, and the Wonders of Childhood into their old age.'
Conscious Parenting by Natasa Pantovic Nuit Quotes about kids and world based on truth ~ Natasa Nuit Pantovic
Mindfulness Burnout Prevention quotes by Natasa Nuit Pantovic
To just be--to be--amidst all doings, achievings, and becomings. This is the natural state of mind, or original, most fundamental state of being. This is unadulterated Buddha-nature. This is like finding our balance. ~ Lama Surya Das
Mindfulness Burnout Prevention quotes by Lama Surya Das
It feels good. Kinda like when you have to shut your computer down, just sometimes when it goes crazy, you just shut it down and when you turn it on, it's okay again. That's what meditation is to me. ~ Ellen DeGeneres
Mindfulness Burnout Prevention quotes by Ellen DeGeneres
By refreshing our sense of belonging in the world, we widen the web of relationships that nourishes us and protects us from burnout. ~ Joanna Macy & Chris Johnstone
Mindfulness Burnout Prevention quotes by Joanna Macy & Chris Johnstone
So few people are really aware of their thoughts. Their minds run all over the place without their permission, and they go along for the ride unknowingly and without making a choice. ~ Thomas M. Sterner
Mindfulness Burnout Prevention quotes by Thomas M. Sterner
It's Only When We Are Deeply Connected To Our Inner Self That We Can Sustain Our Contribution To This World". ~ Venugopal Acharya
Mindfulness Burnout Prevention quotes by Venugopal Acharya
It's in the telling of a tragedy that we sow the seeds --we hope -- of prevention of future sorrows. ~ Therese Anne Fowler
Mindfulness Burnout Prevention quotes by Therese Anne Fowler
When feeling lonely or anxious, most of us have the habit of looking for distractions, which often leads to some form of unwholesome consumption
whether eating a snack in the absence of hunger, mindlessly surfing the Internet, going on a drive, or reading. Conscious breathing is a good way to nourish body and mind with mindfulness. ~ Thich Nhat Hanh
Mindfulness Burnout Prevention quotes by Thich Nhat Hanh
Of all the nouns we use to disguise the hollowness of the human condition, none is more influential than "myself". It consists of a collage of still images - name, gender, nationality, profession, enthusiasms, relationships - which are renovated from time to time, but otherwise are each a relic from one particular experience or another. The defining teaching of the Buddhist tradition, that of non-self, is merely pointing out the limitations of this reflexive view we hold of ourselves. It's not that the self does not exist, but that it is as cobbled together and transient as everything else. [With] the practice of meditation, ... we can begin to see how each artifact of the mind is raised and lowered to view, like so many flashcards. But we can also glimpse, once in a while, the sleight-of-hand shuffling the card and pulling them off the deck. Behind the objects lies a process. Self is a process. Self is a verb. ~ Andrew Olendzki
