I was born January 6, 1937, eight years after Wall Street crashed and two years before John Steinbeck published The Grapes of Wrath, his Pulitzer Prize-winning novel about the plight of a family during the Great Depression. ~ Lou Holtz
Prize Winning quotes by Lou Holtz
So I think that in the beginning of your career you're just looking to work. Luckily for me, my first movie was 'Rabbit Hole' and I got to work with incredible people, a Pulitzer prize winning writer, John Cameron Mitchell, and all the actors involved. So it's tough, man, because you want to have credibility. ~ Miles Teller
Prize Winning quotes by Miles Teller

Dave Barry, Pulitzer Prize winning humorist and author says about Radical Sabbatical ~ Dave Barry
Prize Winning quotes by Dave Barry
I've been very lucky with prizes. But the thing about prizes is that, when you talk about a prize-winning author, you can be talking about one that is well-regarded but doesn't sell any books. ~ Jim Crace
Prize Winning quotes by Jim Crace
I once read that if the folds in the cerebral cortex were smoothed out it would cover a card table. That seemed quite unbelievable but it did make me wonder just how big the cortex would be if you ironed it out. I thought it might just about cover a family-sized pizza: not bad, but no card-table. I was astonished to realize that nobody seems to know the answer. A quick search yielded the following estimates for the smoothed out dimensions of the cerebral cortex of the human brain.

An article in Bioscience in November 1987 by Julie Ann Miller claimed the cortex was a "quarter-metre square." That is napkin-sized, about ten inches by ten inches. Scientific American magazine in September 1992 upped the ante considerably with an estimated of 1 1/2 square metres; thats a square of brain forty inches on each side, getting close to the card-table estimate. A psychologist at the University of Toronto figured it would cover the floor of his living room (I haven't seen his living room), but the prize winning estimate so far is from the British magazine New Scientist's poster of the brain published in 1993 which claimed that the cerebral cortex, if flattened out, would cover a tennis court. How can there be such disagreement? How can so many experts not know how big the cortex is? I don't know, but I'm on the hunt for an expert who will say the cortex, when fully spread out, will cover a football field. A Canadian football field. ~ Jay Ingram
Prize Winning quotes by Jay Ingram
Nobel Prize-winning neuroscientist Eric Kandel says we are who we are because of what we learn and what we remember. Who am I, then, if my memory is impaired? ~ Mira Bartok
Prize Winning quotes by Mira Bartok
If you found yourself in a situation where you could either save a drowning man, or you could take a Pulitzer prize winning photograph of him drowning, what shutter speed and setting would you use? ~ Paul Harvey
Prize Winning quotes by Paul Harvey
Having read several prize-winning novels, Fancy was confident that she now knew the recipe:
1. Write a simple narrative.
2. Make a long list.
3. Scatter the contents of your list throughout your narrative. ~ Jaclyn Moriarty
Prize Winning quotes by Jaclyn Moriarty
I'm a four-time Pulitzer Prize winning admirer. I'm also a 16-time Olympic medalist observer (I saw Michael Phelps on TV). ~ Jarod Kintz
Prize Winning quotes by Jarod Kintz
If you are making money writing, you are doing great. If you can support yourself writing, you are a success. I don't care if you're writing textbooks or Pulitzer Prize-winning articles for weighty publications of world renown: If you're writing and it's paying the bills, consider yourself a successful writer. ~ Julie Klausner
Prize Winning quotes by Julie Klausner
I knew from experience at the Negro Ensemble Company that it wasn't until there was a place controlled by black artists ... that Pulitzer Prize-winning work like 'Ceremonies in Dark Old Men' and 'A Soldier's Play' came to fruition. ~ Michael Schultz
Prize Winning quotes by Michael Schultz
Glad to know about all of you who care about books, including or especially poetry. I'm a much published writer/editor of 12 books (medical nonfiction, literary novels, mysteries) and much short work, inc. prize-winning pieces. ~ Carole Spearin McCauley
Prize Winning quotes by Carole Spearin McCauley
As the Nobel Prize-winning American physicist Steven Weinberg said, 'Religion is an insult to human dignity. With or without it, you'd have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, it takes religion. ~ Richard Dawkins
Prize Winning quotes by Richard Dawkins
Atheism or similar charges was not unusual among intellectuals, nor condemned by the masses. The prize-winning plays of Aristophanes were not merely atheist, but made fun of the gods and their prophets and oracles. ~ Benjamin Jowett

You have to be confused," Dudley Herschbach, the Nobel Prize-winning chemist from Harvard, confessed, "before you can reach a new level of understanding anything." In many disciplines, especially ~ Ken Bain
Prize Winning quotes by Ken Bain
I always say, I'm certain I changed 'Watchmen' less than the Coen brothers changed 'No Country for Old Men.' I'm certain of it. But you don't hear the Cormac McCarthy fans, like, up in arms about it. They should be. It's like an amazing Pulitzer Prize-winning book. ~ Zack Snyder
Prize Winning quotes by Zack Snyder
It is perfectly possible to converse with any cat, from prize-winning Siamese to alley tabby. Humans who are slow learners may start with a highly articulate Siamese and progress in time to the more sensitive and difficult business of talking to scared strays. Other people, naturally gifted, can talk to any cat right away. ~ Patricia Moyes
Prize Winning quotes by Patricia Moyes
We continue, however, to write about important people, prize-winning people, blacks of grandeur, women of great fire, fame or wit. We do not write about ordinary people. ~ Jonathan Kozol
Prize Winning quotes by Jonathan Kozol
By far the easiest grounds for gaining conscientious objector status in wartime are religious. You can be a brilliant moral philosopher with a prize-winning doctoral thesis expounding the evils of war, and still be given a hard time by a draft board evaluating your claim to be a conscientious objector. Yet if you can say that one or both of your parents is a Quaker you sail through like a breeze, no matter how inarticulate and illiterate you may be on the theory of pacifism or, indeed, Quakerism itself. ~ Richard Dawkins
Prize Winning quotes by Richard Dawkins
I do like Captain Beefheart (Trout Mask Replica is a misunderstood masterpiece!) and I do have two kids but I've never written a prize winning novel called Oh, Bollocks! ~ Jon Edgell
Prize Winning quotes by Jon Edgell
The ones who win usually don't need the prize. ~ Jake Colsen
Prize Winning quotes by Jake Colsen
That poem you like, how does it end?"
He knows how it ends. He's looked it up by now, that's why he asks.
But I answer him anyway.
"'We have lingered in the chambers of the sea, by sea-girls wreathed
with seaweed red and brown, till human voices wake us, and we drown.'"
Eliot shakes his head. "It does not need the last three words. The last
three words are wrong."
I laugh at his correcting a Nobel prize-winning poet, but I agree. I
know what drowning feels like. It doesn't need water. And human voices,
if they say the right things, can save you.
"Eliot, do you have a pen I can borrow?"
I can feel him smiling in the dark, and we watch the sea caress the
sand.
"That man in the poem, Mr. Prufrock, he was a coward, wasn't he?"
Eliot says.
My answer to his question is the same as his answer to mine. ~ Ray Cluley
Prize Winning quotes by Ray Cluley
A prize-winning science reporter, Simons had become the number-two editor at the Post a year before. An intent, sensitive man with a large nose, thin face and deep-set eyes, he looks like the kind of Harvard teaching assistant who carries a slide ruler strapped to his belt. But he is skillful with fragile egos, and also the perfect counterpoint to Bradlee. Bradlee is more like Woodward: he wants hard information first and is impatient with theories.

-- Carl Bernstein, Bob Woodward ~ Carl Bernstein
Prize Winning quotes by Carl Bernstein
There is no magical formula for winning a Nobel Prize. ~ Venkatraman Ramakrishnan
Prize Winning quotes by Venkatraman Ramakrishnan

Super Kings' success in # IPL ! ~ Kevin Pietersen
Prize Winning quotes by Kevin Pietersen
Don hits rock bottom in the series' finest hour, "The Suitcase," which is essentially a two-character play about Don and Peggy stuck in the office through a tumultuous night. She wants to leave for a birthday dinner with her boyfriend, while he needs company to avoid placing the phone call that will tell him that Anna Draper - the widow of the real Don, and the one person on Earth with whom this Don feels truly comfortable and safe - has died of cancer. Over the course of the episode, Jon Hamm and Elisabeth Moss are asked to play every emotion possible: rage and despair, joy and humiliation, companionship and absolute contempt. In the most iconic moment, Peggy complains that Don took all the credit for an award-winning campaign she helped conceive. "It's your job," he tells her, his voice dripping with condescension. "I give you money. You give me ideas." "And you never say, 'Thank you,'" she complains, fighting back tears. "That's what the money is for!" he screams. ~ Alan Sepinwall
Prize Winning quotes by Alan Sepinwall
Many otherwise decent men and women could find no other solution. They are willing to degrade themselves to their basest levels to prevent the traditional laborer from rising in status or, to put it bluntly, from "winning," even though what he wins has been rightfully his from the moment he was born into the human race. I ~ John Howard Griffin
Prize Winning quotes by John Howard Griffin
Anyone who can solve the problems of water will be worthy of two Nobel prizes - one for peace and one for science. ~ John F. Kennedy

ISIS is winning the propaganda war. They are recruiting people, including Americans, to join them, with the promise that they are joining this great apocalyptic movement that is going to defeat the West. ~ Marco Rubio
Prize Winning quotes by Marco Rubio
Actually it was easier than you'd think. We were the guys who had the opportunity to play for something. Only 26 players on the eight teams had that chance. We would wake up in the morning and have a reason to train. We are able to have four weeks to play at this level. Since the first day our policy was not to talk about the labor situation. Our goal was to win. We'll enjoy it for one night. Then the reality of the owners locking us out sets in. ~ Kris Draper
Prize Winning quotes by Kris Draper
Ownership is not limited to material things. It can also apply to points of view. Once we take ownership of an idea - whether it's about politics or sports - what do we do? We love it perhaps more than we should. We prize it more than it is worth. And most frequently, we have trouble letting go of it because we can't stand the idea of its loss. What are we left with then? An ideology - rigid and unyielding. ~ Dan Ariely
Prize Winning quotes by Dan Ariely
Soul winning is not a method; it is a command. We are supposed to go soul winning and do soul winning if our churches grow or if our churches decrease in attendance. ~ Jack Hyles
Prize Winning quotes by Jack Hyles
You will never achieve a goal by definition unless you try. ~ Auliq Ice
Prize Winning quotes by Auliq Ice

Prize Winning quotes by Kalon Jackson
You've got to have that competiveness inside along with the drive and determination to win. I just want to be the best I can be so that I have no regrets when I'm older. I can say that I gave it the best shot that I could. ~ Jazmin Carlin
Prize Winning quotes by Jazmin Carlin
If good people would make their goodness agreeable, and smile instead of frowning in their virtue, how many would they win to the good cause. ~ James Ussher
Prize Winning quotes by James Ussher
Winning the election is a good-news, bad-news kind of thing. Okay, now you're the mayor. The bad news is, now you're the mayor. ~ Clint Eastwood
Prize Winning quotes by Clint Eastwood
One naively thinks that by winning the Olympics, it's going to be this switch, and then your life is going to be perfect, and that's not reality. ~ Dorothy Hamill
Prize Winning quotes by Dorothy Hamill
I would sooner be holy than happy if the two things could be divorced. Were it possible for a man always to sorrow and yet to be pure, I would choose the sorrow if I might win the purity, for to be free from the power of sin, to be made to love holiness, is true happiness. ~ Charles Spurgeon
Prize Winning quotes by Charles Spurgeon
My mother is Turtle Mountain Chippewa, and she lived on her home reservation. My father taught there. He had just been discharged from the Air Force. He went to school on the GI Bill and got his teaching credentials. He is adventurous - he worked his way through Alaska at age seventeen and paid for his living expenses by winning at the poker table. ~ Louise Erdrich
Prize Winning quotes by Louise Erdrich
Jeff VanderMeer's fiction has always been entrancingly, engagingly, enthusiastically weird, a winning combination of mimesis and the fantastical that privileges neither component: perhaps the very definition of that mode categorized as the 'New Weird' and exemplified most famously by the groundbreaking work of China Mieville. ~ Paul Di Filippo
Prize Winning quotes by Paul Di Filippo
Where to play selects the playing field; how to win defines the choices for winning on that field. It is the recipe for success in the chosen segments, categories, channels, geographies, and so on. The how-to-win choice is intimately tied to the where-to-play choice. Remember, it is not how to win generally, but how to win within the chosen where-to-play domains. ~ A.G. Lafley
Prize Winning quotes by A.G. Lafley
I would rather miss the mark acting well than win the day acting basely. ~ Sophocles
Prize Winning quotes by Sophocles
It just a fun game, until someone starts to win and then everyone else begins to cheat! ~ Andrew James Pritchard
Prize Winning quotes by Andrew James Pritchard
The surest way to remain a winner is to win once, and then not play any more. ~ Ashleigh Brilliant
Prize Winning quotes by Ashleigh Brilliant
My first whore, I'll talk about later and was more or less my teeth-cutter. But to continue, I sweet talked and Grey Goose-shot my way into a C-note quickie with the hottest one of these babes, and it was the best and most freaky buck-wild sex I'd ever had. This event changed me from being a decent, normal guy into an inveterate whorefucker, and somewhat of an aficionado. Whores, if chosen right, are the creme de la creme of fucking, as they have practice, study porn tapes for BJ technique and largely like it, and the vast majority I've been with could win the Nobel Prize for sheer amazing fuckery. ~ George P. Saunders
Prize Winning quotes by George P. Saunders
Indeed, one perfect resister is enough to win the battle of Right against Wrong. ~ Mahatma Gandhi
Prize Winning quotes by Mahatma Gandhi

Prize Winning quotes by Eric Schmidt
Great salespeople are relationship builders who provide value and help their customers win. ~ Jeffrey Gitomer
Prize Winning quotes by Jeffrey Gitomer
People love the idea of winning an Olympic medal or a world title. But what few people realize is that pretty much every second leading up to the actual win is uncomfortable, painful, and impossibly daunting - physically and mentally. Most people focus on the wrong thing: They focus on the result, not the process. The process is the sacrifice; it is all the hard parts - the sweat, the pain, the tears, the losses. You make the sacrifices anyway. You learn to enjoy them, or at least embrace them. ~ Ronda Rousey
Prize Winning quotes by Ronda Rousey
Shareholder value is the result of you doing a great job, watching your share price go up, your shareholders win, and dividends increasing. What happens when you have increasing shareholder value? You're delivering better employees to their communities and they can give back. Communities are winning because employees are involved in mentoring and all these other things. Customers are winning because you're providing them new products. ~ Jack Welch
Prize Winning quotes by Jack Welch
You can't have Rosie on The View and Elton John packing Mom and Pop in at Caesars Palace and gay people all over television, and then have these politicians run out there with a straight face and say that gay and lesbian relationships are a threat to the family. We are winning in the culture - which is why we'll ultimately win the political war. ~ Dan Savage
Prize Winning quotes by Dan Savage
I tried to remember how Jamie Lee finally took out Michael's gross ass ... she got mad and went bad ass Rambo on him; I didn't have anything to go Rambo with. I wanted to cry. Fear was winning; I needed to get pissed and fight back. I needed to go Rambo myself or I knew I was never getting out of this place alive.-Elyograg ~ Lorraine Beaumont

Prize Winning quotes by Jason Merkoski
We put [young children] into kindergarten where their reasoning powers are ruined; or, if we can afford it, we buy Montessori outfits that were invented for semi-imbeciles in Italian slums; or we send them to outdoor schools and give them prizes for sleeping. ~ Katharine Fullerton Gerould

Prize Winning quotes by Callie Hart
If he wins seven golds and ties what I did, then it would be like I was the first man on the moon and he became the second. If he wins more than seven, then he becomes the first man on Mars. We'd both be unique. ~ Mark Spitz
Prize Winning quotes by Mark Spitz
Authors of light pieces have, nobody knows why, a genius for getting into minor difficulties: they walk into the wrong apartments, they drink furniture polish for stomach bitters, they drive their cars into the prize tulip beds of haughty neighbors, they playfully slap gangsters, mistaking them for old school friends. ~ James Thurber
Prize Winning quotes by James Thurber
