I don't even like the word 'indoors'. It doesn't make sense. According to you right now, by stepping through the doorway I'd be indoors. Yet I wouldn't actually be standing in the doorway. If it's supposed to refer to being inside a building, then they shouldn't have used the word 'door,' since last time I checked, doors don't make up every square inch of a building! And I'd assume that now, since I'm not indoors, you'd say I'm 'out of doors', right? But, shouldn't out of doors just be everywhere that's not directly under a door? You know what, from now on I insist that everyone refer to being in a building as being 'under-roof'. ~ Natalie Bina
Female Characters quotes by Natalie Bina
As male characters level up and become more powerful, their bodies become better protected and covered. In contrast, as female characters level up and become more powerful, their bodies are uncovered and made more vulnerable. Thus, as women gain power, they are disempowered in another way. ~ Nick Yee
Female Characters quotes by Nick Yee
Need someone to rescue?" She interrupted him again, spitting her words out with all the rage, contempt, and anger she had bottled up inside. "I'm not a damsel in distress, and you sir, are no knight in shining double breasted, JC Penny! ~ Dennis Sharpe
Female Characters quotes by Dennis Sharpe
So, why do you write these strong female characters?
Because you're still asking me that question.
[Equality Now speech, May 15, 2006] ~ Joss Whedon
Female Characters quotes by Joss Whedon
I've certainly seen stats that if you have a woman director or a woman screenwriter, the number of female characters goes way up. ~ Emma Donoghue
Female Characters quotes by Emma Donoghue
What are you? The pregnant MacGyver?" "Best compliment I've had in a while. ~ Cristin Harber
Female Characters quotes by Cristin Harber
The love and support from the Witches of East End fans continues to blow us away and renews our faith that storytelling matters, strong female characters matter, and messages about faith and hope matter. I love this family. I love this story. And to be part of a show that has inspired and touched so many people's hearts is a true blessing. ~ Rachel Boston
Female Characters quotes by Rachel Boston
He walked right to her, his long strides eating the space between them and sucking the oxygen in front of her ~ Cristin Harber
Female Characters quotes by Cristin Harber
I have learned how to be a lady. It's just so dull I can't stick with it. ~ Shari L. Tapscott
Female Characters quotes by Shari L. Tapscott
Joss would come to understand that this position - respecting, admiring, and identifying with women while acknowledging the objectifying influence of the male gaze - helped him create female characters that worked and connected with an audience. "You can't write from a political agenda and make stories that are in any way emotional or iconic. You have to write it from a place that's a little dark, that has to do with passion and lust and things you don't want to talk about. ~ Amy Pascale
Female Characters quotes by Amy Pascale
I think it's the source material. 27 Dresses was a famous book, and Devil Wears Prada was also a wonderful book, so it's coming out of the novelists who are really creating these wonderful female characters that we want to see on the big screen. ~ Jerry Bruckheimer
Female Characters quotes by Jerry Bruckheimer
I couldn't tell anyone how I felt because I knew they wouldn't understand. Oh, poor little Christina, falling for the bad man who treats her like dirt because she didn't know any better. And isn't it a pity that they don't still teach sex-ed in schools? Or, oh, Christina, that filthy slut, if she puts out for a man like that, I imagine she puts out for anyone. You stay away from her. It wasn't like that at all. Maybe it would have been easier if it was, just like ticking a box. Are you the Madonna, or the whore? The victim, or the vixen? The Sabine, or the skank?
But nothing in life is ever that simple. ~ Nenia Campbell
Female Characters quotes by Nenia Campbell
One of the things that's important for anybody adapting source material that is primarily a male buddy picture is to find ways to latch on to strong female characters in the piece and bring them to the forefront and celebrate their point of view alongside the men; otherwise, it becomes a sausage party, and it's a singular point of view. ~ Bryan Fuller
Female Characters quotes by Bryan Fuller
I would like to find a more precise way to not only tell the stories of female characters, but also do so in a female "way." My biggest advice would be to trust yourself. ~ Danae Elon
Female Characters quotes by Danae Elon
There's just a deeper level of sophistication in the writing of female characters on TV. ~ Vera Farmiga
Female Characters quotes by Vera Farmiga
Lots of talk lately about the GREAT AMERICAN NOVEL that seems to be exclusively masculine. And how many of the characters in the GENIUS BOOKS are likable? Is Holden Caulfield likable? Is Meursault in The Stranger? Is Henry Miller? Is any character in any of these system novels particularly likable? Aren't they usually loathsome but human, etc., loathsome and neurotic and obsessed? In my memory, all the characters in Jonathan Franzen are total douchebags (I know, I know, I'm not supposed to use that, feminine imagery, whatever, but it is SO satisfying to say and think). How about female characters in the genius books? Was Madame Bovary likable? Was Anna Karenina? Is Daisy Buchanan likable? Is Daisy Miller? Is it the specific way in which supposed readers HATE unlikable female characters (who are too depressed, too crazy, too vain, too self-involved, too bored, too boring), that mirrors the specific way in which people HATE unlikable girls and women for the same qualities? We do not allow, really, the notion of the antiheroine, as penned by women, because we confuse the autobiographical, and we pass judgment on the female author for her terrible self-involved and indulgent life. We do not hate Scott Fitzgerald in "The Crack-Up" or Georges Bataille in Guilty for being drunken and totally wading in their own pathos, but Jean Rhys is too much of a victim. ~ Kate Zambreno
Female Characters quotes by Kate Zambreno
There was something indomitable about Maria – like Britannia. He'd heard that she kept her head during a Chilean earthquake the year before when men of greater age and experience had panicked. Afterwards she was discovered calmly taking notes, recording the way the land hand risen, for publication, she said. ~ Sara Sheridan
Female Characters quotes by Sara Sheridan
Reader, what are you doing? Aren't you going to resist? Aren't you going to escape? Ah, you are participating ... Ah, you fling yourself into it, too ... You're the absolute protagonist of this book, very well; but do you believe that gives you the right to have carnal relations with all the female characters? Like this, without any preparation..? ~ Italo Calvino
Female Characters quotes by Italo Calvino
We're showing kids a world that is very scantily populated with women and female characters. They should see female characters taking up half the planet, which we do. ~ Geena Davis
Female Characters quotes by Geena Davis
When I look at female characters, I want to recognize myself in them: my trials, my tribulations as a mother, as a lover, as a daughter. ~ Vera Farmiga
Female Characters quotes by Vera Farmiga
Few female characters get to be "the Chosen One" in science fiction and fantasy. Leia is as much the child of Darth Vader as Luke is, but only Luke gets to use the force, be recruited by his dad and ultimately save the day. We don't get impossibly clever female sleuths or the sexy spies with the awesome gadgets. And on the rare occasions that we do get those characters, they're denigrated as unrealistic Mary Sues. ~ Rhiannon Thomas
Female Characters quotes by Rhiannon Thomas
I'm not beholden to the confirmation of your prejudices; to be perfectly frank, the prospect of confining the female characters in my story to placid, helpless secondary places in the narrative is so goddamn boring that I would rather not write at all. ~ Scott Lynch
Female Characters quotes by Scott Lynch
The stronger the participation of the female characters, the better the movie. They knew that in the old days, when women stars were equally as important as men. ~ Clint Eastwood
Female Characters quotes by Clint Eastwood
Context is everything in both narrative and real life, and while the accusation is never that these creators deliberately set out to discriminate against gay and female characters, the unavoidable implication is that they should have known better than to add to the sum total of those stories which, en masse, do exactly that. And if the listmakers can identify the trend so thoroughly – if, despite all the individual qualifications, protests and contextualisations of the authors, these problems can still be said to exist – then the onus, however disconnected from the work of any one individual, nonetheless falls to those individuals, in their role as cultural creators, to acknowledge the problem; to do better next time; perhaps even to apologise. This last is a particular sticking point. By and large, human beings tend not to volunteer apologies for things they perceive to be the fault of other people, for the simple reason that apology connotes guilt, and how can we feel guilty – or rather, why should we – if we're not the ones at fault? But while we might argue over who broke a vase, the vase itself is still broken, and will remain so, its shards ground into the carpet, until
someone decides to clean it up.

Blog Post: Love Team Freezer ~ Foz Meadows
Female Characters quotes by Foz Meadows
I think the type of actor I am, I tend to play strong leading female characters. The shows I've been on happen to be science fiction genre. ~ Alaina Huffman
Female Characters quotes by Alaina Huffman
Who knows? Maybe you both live happily ever after, or maybe three months from now you end the relationship because he doesn't squeeze the toothpaste from the bottom...nothing is guaranteed." - Olivia Harper, Secret Need ~ Satin Russell
Female Characters quotes by Satin Russell
With 'Holes' I was troubled that there weren't very many female characters. I tried to put them in where I could. But the setting didn't lend itself to girls. ~ Louis Sachar
Female Characters quotes by Louis Sachar
I couldn't shake this feeling that I had uncovered more than something ordinary. ~ Nicole Gulla
Female Characters quotes by Nicole Gulla
I find that in the science fiction world, you have almost more women fans than male fans and I think it's because there's been such a shortage of strong female characters. ~ Katee Sackhoff
Female Characters quotes by Katee Sackhoff
Normally, I would have kicked him in the nuts for touching me without my consent. ~ V.M. Marsh
Female Characters quotes by V.M. Marsh
If there is any indication of how an author and her books can affect change, look at the proof of her works on society. And ignore the critics and the trolls. -Strong by Kailin Gow on How Her Indie Success helped motivate and inspired others to become authors and how her books with strong women leads helped the film industry to portray more strong women leads ~ Kailin Gow
Female Characters quotes by Kailin Gow
I tend to like strong female characters. It just interests me dramatically.
A strong male character isn't interesting because it has been done and it's so cliched. A weak male character is interesting: somebody else hasn't done it a hundred times. A strong female character is still interesting to me because it hasn't been done all that much, finding the balance of femininity and strength.
[From a 1986 Fangoria interview] ~ James Cameron
Female Characters quotes by James Cameron
So, what you're saying is, just because a warrior is a woman doesn't mean they yhave to wear a chain mail bikini? Like, they could wear...real armor? ~ Jeremy Whitley
Female Characters quotes by Jeremy Whitley
But sometimes a shattered view is the only way to see truth. ~ James D. Horton
Female Characters quotes by James D. Horton
The female characters in 'Peep Show' are not 'strong': they are idiots. As idiotic as the men. ~ Robert Webb
Female Characters quotes by Robert Webb
...I do write books that are female oriented. In my books, the female characters are always searching for something and they often find it, and what they find is themselves and their own strength. I want girls to understand there has been a long history of strong women... Women have always been oppressed but managed to see their own way, and there is a long tradition of females doing what they want to do, and that's what girls can do. They can have selves of their own, a definition of themselves.'" ~Virginia Hamilton in Shireen Dodson's the Mother-Daughter Book Club ~ Shireen Dodson
Female Characters quotes by Shireen Dodson
So,' she said cautiously, 'is all this your way of telling me you're the villain?'
His chuckle was dark. 'I'm definitely not the hero.'
'I already knew that,' Tella said. 'It's my story, so clearly I'm the hero. ~ Stephanie Garber
Female Characters quotes by Stephanie Garber
One of the things you never really see in a romance book is a woman who has self-esteem issues. I mean, I'm sure they're out there, but they're few and far between. Like they can have eating disorders, post-traumatic stress from sexual assault or mental abuse. They can be sold into sex trafficking and they can carry epic amounts of grief. We have female characters who have suffered every loss imaginable and ones who are scarred physically and mentality, but where in the hell are the average women? Ones who look in the mirror and cringe a little? Like, why are all those others acceptable to women, but reading or knowing another woman who has a low self-esteem is, like, worse than all that drama llama? ~ J. Lynn
Female Characters quotes by J. Lynn
Hadn't she once had a love for adventure? Hadn't she once wanted to be the hero of her own tale? ~ Natasha D. Lane
Female Characters quotes by Natasha D. Lane
Hollywood is lacking realness in their female characters. I don't think I'm the only one who thinks that and wants to change it. ~ Nicole Holofcener
Female Characters quotes by Nicole Holofcener
We were pregnant at the time, and while I was out there I started to realize that if I had a daughter, there would come a day when I would have to apologize to her for my profession. I would have to apologize for the way it treats and speaks to women readers, and the way it treats its female characters. ~ Matt Fraction
Female Characters quotes by Matt Fraction
It's like my characters, all my men are Dad and me in a mess; all my female characters are smart and hopeful, like Mom just trying to make the best of things. ~ Bret Easton Ellis
Female Characters quotes by Bret Easton Ellis
I don't fully understand my wife's emotions - and I'm supposed to write an excellent female character and unravel the secret of women? ~ Evan Goldberg
Female Characters quotes by Evan Goldberg
My affinity, as a novelist, with Dickens has been overstated. I relish the way everything in his prose pulsates with life force, and I'm in debt to him every time I invest inanimate objects with uncanny animism. But his female characters annoy me. ~ Michel Faber
Female Characters quotes by Michel Faber
In 2015 a sixth-grade girl named Madeline Messer analyzed the fifty most popular 'endless runner game' apps and found that 98 percent came with built-in boy characters, compared with only 46 percent that offered girl characters. The real kicker, however, was that in 90 percent of the games, the male characters were free, whereas 85 percent of the games charged extra for the ability to select a female character. This is a simple but telling example of the ways children learn to think that masculine = normal; male = standard; boys = human; and girls = have to pay. ~ Soraya Chemaly
Female Characters quotes by Soraya Chemaly
You are the Worst Kind of Animal. A Butcher by Day and a Pussy Cat by Night. ~ Monroe Ariel
Female Characters quotes by Monroe Ariel
Sometimes female characters start out as the wife or girlfriend, but then I realize, 'No, she's the book,' and she becomes a main character. I surrender the book to her. ~ Elmore Leonard
Female Characters quotes by Elmore Leonard
I think women have such rich emotional lives that they are expressive about. I also think they're funny. I like watching strong female characters, and I like writing them. I don't know if it's conscious that I gravitate towards women, but it's certainly evolved that way. ~ Darren Star
Female Characters quotes by Darren Star
we as authors have been writing about people we aren't for forever. We find a way to empathise, we find a way in. Female characters are no different. All they are are characters. They are people too. Instead of asking yourself, "How do I write this female soldier?" ask yourself, "How do I write this soldier? Where is she from, how was she raised, does she have a sense of humour? Is she big and tall, is she short and petite? How does her size affect her ability to fight? What is her favourite weapon, her least favourite? Why? Is she more logical than emotional? The other way around? Was she an only child and spoiled, was she the eldest of six siblings and a surrogate mother? How does that upbringing affect how she interacts with her team? etc etc and so forth." Notice how the first question gets you some kind of broad, generalised answer, likely resulting in a stereotype, and how the second version asks lots and lots of smaller questions with the goal of creating someone well rounded.

One would hope, really, that we as authors ask such detailed questions of all our characters, regardless of gender.

So let me, at long last, actually answer the original question:

"How do I write a female character?"

Write her the way you would write any other character. Give her dimension, give her strength but please also don't forget to give her weaknesses (for a totally strong nothing can beat her kind of girl is not a person, she's again a ty ~ Adrienne Kress
Female Characters quotes by Adrienne Kress
Often, as a young actress, you find yourself being the only girl in a room full of men ... and one of the reasons why I like 'Grey's Anatomy' is because they have such strong female characters and the women really drive this show. ~ Rachael Taylor
Female Characters quotes by Rachael Taylor
In the end, I listen to my fear. It keeps me awake, resounding through the frantic beating in my breast. It is there in the dry terror in my throat, in the pricking of the rats' nervous feet in the darkness. Christian has not come home all the night long. I know, for I have lain in this darkness for hours now with my eyes stretched wide, yearning for my son's return. ~ Ned Hayes
Female Characters quotes by Ned Hayes
Ah, but don't you see? It is when things are most quiet that you must be most alert. For you never know what lurks in the silence. ~ Natasha D. Lane
Female Characters quotes by Natasha D. Lane
I think there is a wonderful trend of strong female characters on television right now. ~ Amanda Schull
Female Characters quotes by Amanda Schull
But I want you to know," Cleo continued, "that there is hope. And that I am living proof of that hope. Because, even though I was forced into this marriage against my will, I have come to know Prince Magnus Lukas Damora very well these last months. And one thing I've learned is that Prince Magnus is nothing like his father. Prince Magnus is brave and compassionate, and he truly wants what's just and best for this kingdom. Kindness is what makes a good king who will put the needs and rights of his people before his own desires. ~ Morgan Rhodes
Female Characters quotes by Morgan Rhodes
I certainly relate to Ygritte in the fact that she is so strong and also ruthless as well and I feel that especially within 'Game of Thrones,' I think that as a show, it is one of the frontrunners for showing dominant female characters and making sure that men answer to women rather than the other way around. ~ Rose Leslie
Female Characters quotes by Rose Leslie
Pity, I knew, was just disrespect wrapped in kindness. I had to address it early, or it would grow unwieldy in time. ~ Veronica Roth
Female Characters quotes by Veronica Roth
I can't seem to shake this perpetual awareness of being Molly. ~ Becky Albertalli
Female Characters quotes by Becky Albertalli
She resisted the urge to run, only prey ran [and] Niko had no intention on becoming prey ~ Kayti Nika Raet

I'm telling you that my happiness isn't up to you.", Loving Summer by Kailin Gow ~ Kailin Gow

You took nothing from me. ~ Tony Bedard
Female Characters quotes by Tony Bedard
Most mainstream male fiction is littered with heroines, and female characters are basically so great, you want to fall in love with them. ~ Iain Banks
Female Characters quotes by Iain Banks
People focus on the darker female characters in my books, but for every one of those, I can also show you an equally screwed up man that no one ever comments about, or a nicer woman that no one comments about. ~ Gillian Flynn
Female Characters quotes by Gillian Flynn
I firmly believe in and support everyone's right to freedom of artistic expression. STEEL MAGNOLIAS is my artistic expression, and it is my right to say that its female characters be portrayed by women. The concept of a play set in a beauty parlor where men portray women is a terrific idea. If that is someone's artistic expression, I encourage them to write their own play as soon as possible. ~ Robert Harling
Female Characters quotes by Robert Harling
How can so many (white, male) writers narratively justify restricting the agency of their female characters on the grounds of sexism = authenticity while simultaneously writing male characters with conveniently modern values?

The habit of authors writing Sexism Without Sexists in genre novels is seemingly pathological. Women are stuffed in the fridge under cover of "authenticity" by secondary characters and villains because too many authors flinch from the "authenticity" of sexist male protagonists. Which means the yardstick for "authenticity" in such novels almost always ends up being "how much do the women suffer", instead of - as might also be the case - "how sexist are the heroes".

And this bugs me; because if authors can stretch their imaginations far enough to envisage the presence of modern-minded men in the fake Middle Ages, then why can't they stretch them that little bit further to put in modern-minded women, or modern-minded social values? It strikes me as being extremely convenient that the one universally permitted exception to this species of "authenticity" is one that makes the male heroes look noble while still mandating that the women be downtrodden and in need of rescuing.

I'm out of the room in the next instant, like a man wanting breath, after suffocating through the horror of a burrito eating obese man's fart." - Emily Dolt ~ Nix Banner
Female Characters quotes by Nix Banner
God, woman." He closed his fist, not bothering to count off the dozens of other things she shouldn't do. "You give me heartburn."
"No. Those are orgasms I give you, baby. ~ Cristin Harber
Female Characters quotes by Cristin Harber
He stood and stepped up behind her. Why not? It's the truth. I like spending time with you. You're strong, beautiful and brave. What more could a man ask for? ~ Colleen Coble
Female Characters quotes by Colleen Coble
None of the male characters are as powerful or as interesting as the four central female characters. The men work best as representations of the current stage of a particular female's psyche. The men function as catalysts, and are certainly important to the development of the story, but the relationships are not the goal. I do not see romance as being what's central to the success of PRETTY LITTLE LIARS. ~ Norman Buckley
Female Characters quotes by Norman Buckley
I don't think there's any great mystery to writing female characters, so long as you talk to them. If you lived in a monastery and never met any women, maybe it would be difficult. ~ Ken Follett
Female Characters quotes by Ken Follett
I may be in pain, but I am not weak. ~ Veronica Roth
Female Characters quotes by Veronica Roth
'The Hobbit' didn't include female characters at all and was a very linear story, a book for children, really. ~ Evangeline Lilly
Female Characters quotes by Evangeline Lilly
It's a fact, the majority of films in Hollywood are from the male perspective. And the female characters, very rarely do they get to speak to another female character in a movie, and when they do it's usually about a guy, not anything else. So they're very male-centric, Hollywood films, in general. So I think it's incredible that Ned Benson, when I said I'd love to know where she goes, says okay, I'm going to write another film from the female perspective. ~ Jessica Chastain
Female Characters quotes by Jessica Chastain
I was thinking about what I wanted to write next, after my first novel, and had decided that I wanted to write a story with a lot of strong female characters in it. ~ Joan D. Vinge
Female Characters quotes by Joan D. Vinge
The "difficult" female character can-and will-do the shocking, the unexpected and, as a consequence, will give your story an immediate jolt of energy. She is the character who doesn't fit the mold. ~ Jane Heller
Female Characters quotes by Jane Heller
I don't think male characters are as one-dimensional as female characters. ~ Geena Davis
Female Characters quotes by Geena Davis
It often horrified the English community that she spent her time with local farmers and horse traders, eccentrics and mystics, but she valued expertise over convention and had long believed if you were going to make discoveries in the world you must first quit your Englishness and open your eyes. ~ Sara Sheridan
Female Characters quotes by Sara Sheridan
So what if she wasn't a pushover? So what if she had some mettle and didn't wear her heart on her sleeve? She had done everything she had done for the best. For king and country. ~ Sara Sheridan
Female Characters quotes by Sara Sheridan
At the end of the day I have many answers for it. It has to do with my mom, who was an extraordinary woman, and a great feminist. It has to do with the people in my life. It has to do with a lot of different things, but
I don't know! Because I'm not just writing from the female characters for other people. I have a desire to see them in our culture
that was not met for most of my childhood. Except occasionally by James Cameron.
[From the 2011 San Diego Comic Con, in response to being asked why he writes strong female characters.] ~ Joss Whedon
Female Characters quotes by Joss Whedon
It's difficult to make a movie about a complicated, non-traditional female character. We see a lot more movies with male characters who are at that point in their lives, but not that many about females. ~ Megan Griffiths
Female Characters quotes by Megan Griffiths
I don't believe in the idea of the strong woman; there is simply woman. ~ Melissa Thayer
Female Characters quotes by Melissa Thayer
I admired so many things about you. Almost everything. But I don't want to wind up like you. I don't want to starve to death, all alone on some island inside my own head. Hopeless. ~ Jenna Brooks
Female Characters quotes by Jenna Brooks
Whedon: Studios will tell you: A woman cannot headline an action movie. After The Hunger Games they might stop telling you that a little bit. Whatever you think of the movie, it's done a great service. And after The Avengers, I think it's changing.
Johansson: A lot of the female superhero movies just suck really badly.
Whedon: The suck factor is not small.
Johansson: They are really not well made, and already you're fighting against the tide. There are a couple [female-driven action movies] that have worked-ish, don't you think?
Hemsworth: Angelina Jolie tends to do it pretty well, as the dominant female.
Jackson: They got to get The Pro to the screen!
Whedon: [Groaning] See, that is the problem. Sam is the problem!
Jackson: I love that book!
Whedon: [Reluctantly] The Pro is hilarious.
Jackson: The Pro's hilarious. [To the group] You ever see or hear of it?
Johansson: No, what's The Pro?
Jackson: It's [a comic book] about a hooker who gets super powers!
Johansson: [Pauses] That is exactly the problem right there.
Whedon: That's why I wasn't going to bring up The Pro!

(From an Entertainment Weekly interview) ~ Joss Whedon
Female Characters quotes by Joss Whedon
I've done movies that have mostly feminine characters and elements, and I think that both 'Heathers' and 'Truth About Cats and Dogs' are, in their own weird ways - they're different ends of the girl movie spectrum, but they're very much centered around the female characters, and I like those movies, and I like working with good actresses. ~ Michael Lehmann
Female Characters quotes by Michael Lehmann
Because I had some roles that resonated with women, I immediately noticed that there were far more male characters than female characters in what we're showing little kids in the 21st century, which was stunning to me. But I couldn't find anybody else who noticed. ~ Geena Davis
Female Characters quotes by Geena Davis
There's a reason I don't have a list of villains as long as Bruce's, Barry's, or even yours. When I deal with them, I deal with them. ~ Geoff Johns
Female Characters quotes by Geoff Johns
If screenwriters have to kill off a female character, they love to give her cancer. We've seen so many great actresses go down to the Big C: Ali MacGraw, Meryl Streep, Emma Thompson, Debra Winger, Susan Sarandon. ~ Geraldine Brooks
Female Characters quotes by Geraldine Brooks
It's hard to know what's right in this life,' she said. 'We do what we can, but what we really need is mercy. Do you know who taught me that?' A grin. 'You.'"

P459 ~ Veronica Roth
Female Characters quotes by Veronica Roth
I would tell any actress that the trick is to play all the female characters on your show, and then all the men are yours. ~ Sarah Michelle Gellar
Female Characters quotes by Sarah Michelle Gellar
There's a remarkable amount of sexism on TV. When male characters are flawed, they're interesting, deep and complex. But when female characters are flawed, they're just a mess. It's good to put more flawed but interesting female characters out there because it promotes equality. ~ Ellen Pompeo
Female Characters quotes by Ellen Pompeo
I should know better than anyone
you can't tell who a person is just from his looks. ~ Cheryl Rainfield
Female Characters quotes by Cheryl Rainfield
I love writing about men. To get by in the world you have to know how men think. Not that all guys think alike, but women tend to think about more things at the same time, an overgeneralization, but I find it easier to make my male characters focus than I do my female characters. ~ Bonnie Jo Campbell
Female Characters quotes by Bonnie Jo Campbell
She was tired of everyone deciding her life for her. She was ready to figure out who she really was--not what anyone else told her to be. ~ Marissa Meyer
Female Characters quotes by Marissa Meyer
The deeply irrational attitude of each sex toward women may be seen in novels, particularly in bad novels. In bad novels by men, there is the woman with whom the author is in love, who usually possesses every charm, but is somewhat helpless, and requires male protection; sometimes, however, like Shakespeare's Cleopatra, she is an object of exasperated hatred, and is thought to be deeply and desperately wicked. In portraying the heroine, the male author does not write from observation, but merely objectifies his own emotions. In regard to his other female characters, he is more objective, and may even depend upon his notebook; but when he is in love, his passion makes a mist between him and the object of his devotion. Women novelists, also, have two kinds of women in their books. One is themselves, glamorous and kind, and object of lust to the wicked and of love to the good, sensitive, highsouled, and constantly misjudged. The other kind is represented by all other women, and is usually portrayed as petty, spiteful, cruel, and deceitful. It would seem that to judge women without bias is not easy either for men or for women. ~ Bertrand Russell
Female Characters quotes by Bertrand Russell
A strong woman just needs to be loved strongly ~ Leju Thomas
Female Characters quotes by Leju Thomas
I've tried the female thing. I was in a movie called Dinner for Schmucks a couple of years ago with Steve Carell and I created a female character for that movie. And after a few months of trying her out on the road it just didn't work. I mean, I can think like a terrorist, I can think like a white trash guy, I can even try and think like an African American, but I can't figure out how a woman. ~ Jeff Dunham
Female Characters quotes by Jeff Dunham
Approaching the trail, he broke through the thicket a short distance ahead of the Empath. Causing the Empaths horse to startle as the surprised rider jerked on the reins. Cap was equally surprised to find a young girl before him instead of an older, experienced male Empath. Cap brought his horse to a quick halt. The young girl pulled a small knife from her boot and cautioned him. "I don't know where you came from, but I'm not easy prey." Her voice shook slightly with fear as she raised the knife.
Not sure how to proceed, they stared silently at each other. Cap had always believed that Empaths didn't carry weapons. This pretty, chestnut haired girl couldn't be more than 18 years old. Her long straight tresses covered the spot on her jacket where the Empathic Emblem was usually worn, causing Cap to doubt she was the one he sought. Not wanting to frighten her any more than he already had, Cap tried to explain. "I'm Commander Caplin Taylor. I'm looking for an Empath that is headed for the Western Hunting Lodge."
"My name is Kendra; I am the Empath you seek." She answered cautiously, still holding the blade. A noise from the brush drew her attention as a small rodent pounced out, trying to evade an unseen predator. Cap was just close enough to lurch forward and snatch the dirk from her hand. Her head jerked back in alarm.
"Bosen May has been mauled by a Sraeb, his shoulder is a mass of pulp." Cap spoke quickly not wanting to hesitate any longer.

Classic adult logic. Reid and I are vaguely the same age, so of course we're basically soul mates. It's like horoscopes.
