Colombians! My last wish is for the happiness of the patria. If my death contributes to the end of partisanship and the consolidation of the union, I shall be lowered in peace into my grave. ~ Simon Bolivar
Simon Bolivar quotes by Simon Bolivar
An ignorant people is the blind instrument of its own destruction. ~ Simon Bolivar
Simon Bolivar quotes by Simon Bolivar
If Nature is against us, we shall fight Nature and make it obey. ~ Simon Bolivar
Simon Bolivar quotes by Simon Bolivar
Morals and lights are our first necessities. ~ Simon Bolivar
Simon Bolivar quotes by Simon Bolivar
The real discoverer of South America was [Alexander von] Humboldt, since his work was more useful for our people than the work of all conquerors. ~ Simon Bolivar
Simon Bolivar quotes by Simon Bolivar
A state too expensive in itself, or by virtue of its dependencies, ultimately falls into decay; its free government is transformed into a tyranny; it disregards the principles which it should preserve, and finally degenerates into despotism. The distinguishing characteristic of small republics is stability: the character of large republics is mutability. ~ Simon Bolivar
Simon Bolivar quotes by Simon Bolivar
Damn it, how will I ever get out of this labyrinth? ~ Simon Bolivar
Simon Bolivar quotes by Simon Bolivar
The continuation of authority has frequently proved the undoing of democratic governments. Repeated elections are essential to the system of popular governments, because there is nothing so dangerous as to suffer power to be vested for a long time in one citizen. The people become accustomed to obeying him, and he becomes accustomed to commanding, hence the origin of usurpation and tyranny. ~ Simon Bolivar
Simon Bolivar quotes by Simon Bolivar
He was gone, and I did not have time to tell him what I had just now realized: that I forgave him, and that she forgave us, and that we had to forgive to survive in the labyrinth. There were so many of us who would have to live with things done and things left undone that day. Things that did not go right, things that seemed okay at the time because we could not see the future. If only we could see the endless string of consequences that result from our smallest actions. But we can't know better until knowing better is useless. And as I walked back to give Takumi's note to the Colonel, I saw that I would never know. I would never know her well enough to know her thoughts in those last minutes, would never know if she left us on purpose. But the not-knowing would not keep me from caring, and I would always love Alaska Young, my crooked neighbor, with all my crooked heart. ~ John Green
Simon Bolivar quotes by John Green
All who have served the Revolution have plowed the sea. ~ Simon Bolivar
Simon Bolivar quotes by Simon Bolivar
I'm old, sick, tired, disillusioned, harassed, slandered, and unappreciated. ~ Gabriel Garcia Marquez
Simon Bolivar quotes by Gabriel Garcia Marquez
Slavery is the offspring of darkness. ~ Simon Bolivar
Simon Bolivar quotes by Simon Bolivar
Our hatred knows no bounds, and the war shall be to the death. ~ Simon Bolivar
Simon Bolivar quotes by Simon Bolivar
Do not compare your material forces with those of the enemy. Spirit cannot be compared with matter. You are human beings, they are beasts. You are free, they are slaves. ~ Simon Bolivar
Simon Bolivar quotes by Simon Bolivar
Flee the country where a lone man holds all power: It is a nation of slaves. ~ Simon Bolivar
Simon Bolivar quotes by Simon Bolivar
He who serves a revolution ploughs a sea. ~ Simon Bolivar
Simon Bolivar quotes by Simon Bolivar
Among the popular and representative systems of government I do not approve of the federal system: it is too perfect; and it requires virtues and political talents much superior to our own. ~ Simon Bolivar
Simon Bolivar quotes by Simon Bolivar
God grants victory to perseverance. ~ Simon Bolivar
Simon Bolivar quotes by Simon Bolivar
To do something right it must be done twice. The first time instructs the second. ~ Simon Bolivar
Simon Bolivar quotes by Simon Bolivar
The United States appear to be destined by Providence to plague America with misery in the name of liberty. ~ Simon Bolivar
Simon Bolivar quotes by Simon Bolivar
The three greatest fools of History have been Jesus Christ, Don Quixote ... and me! ~ Simon Bolivar
Simon Bolivar quotes by Simon Bolivar
José Martí, born on January 28, 1853, is known as the George Washington of Cuba, or is perhaps better identified with Simon Bolivar, the liberator of South America. Although he admired and visited the United States, José Martí realized that not only would he have to free his country from Spain, he would also have to prevent the United States from interfering in Cuba's internal affairs. By his admirers, he was considered a great Latin American intellectual, and his newspaper Patria became the voice of "Cuban Independence." After years of suppression, the Cuban struggle for independence began in 1868. At the age of 17, José Martí was jailed in Cuba and then exiled to Spain because of his revolutionary activities. It was during this time in his life that he published a pamphlet describing the atrocities he had experienced while being imprisoned in Cuba. He strongly believed in racial equality and denounced the horrors of people having to live under a dictatorship.
In 1878, Martí was allowed to return to Cuba under a general amnesty, but was once again banished from Cuba after being accused of conspiracy against the Spanish authorities. From 1881 to 1895, he lived and worked in New York City. Moving to Florida, he organized forces for a three-pronged attack supporting the smoldering Cuban War of Independence. It was during one of the first battles that he was killed at the Battle of Dos Ríos in Cuba, and thus became a national hero and martyr when he was only 42 years old. ~ Hank Bracker
Simon Bolivar quotes by Hank Bracker
If Nature is opposed, we will fight her and make her obbey us. ~ Simon Bolivar
Simon Bolivar quotes by Simon Bolivar
Let the entire system of government be strengthened, and let the balance of power be drawn up in such a manner that it will be permanent and incapable of decay because of its own tenuity. ~ Simon Bolivar
Simon Bolivar quotes by Simon Bolivar
Do not adopt the best system of government, but the one most likely to succeed. ~ Simon Bolivar
Simon Bolivar quotes by Simon Bolivar
Even before his eyes began to fail he had his secretaries read to him, and then he read no other way because of the annoyance that eyeglasses caused him. But his interest in what he read was decreasing at the same time, and as always he attributed this to a cause beyond his control.
"The fact is there are fewer and fewer good books," he would say. ~ Gabriel Garcia Marquez
Simon Bolivar quotes by Gabriel Garcia Marquez
We can grieve over lost powers and memories, or rejoice over gained knowledge and maturity, according to taste. ~ Simon Blackburn
Simon Bolivar quotes by Simon Blackburn
The ride to Alicante had been like something out of a dream, or a cheesy romance novel. The two of them astride white stallions, galloping across the countryside, charging across emerald meadows and through a forest the color of flames. Isabelle's hair streamed behind her like a river of ink, and Simon had even managed not to fall off his horse--never a foregone conclusion. ~ Cassandra Clare
Simon Bolivar quotes by Cassandra Clare
Energy is the master resource, because energy enables us to convert one material into another. As natural scientists continue to learn more about the transformation of materials from one form to another with the aid of energy, energy will be even more important. ~ Julian Simon
Simon Bolivar quotes by Julian Simon
It's a lot easier having a girlfriend in a band than if you were going out with someone that lived in London. ~ Simon Taylor-Davis
Simon Bolivar quotes by Simon Taylor-Davis
Leaning toward a certain party is one thing (Matthew did it, Simon did it, and Jesus allowed it), but it is important to see that a partisan spirit can actually run against the Spirit of God. If there ever was a partisan crowd in the Bible, it was the crowd that pressured Pilate to crucify Jesus instead of Barabbas. Barabbas, a true criminal, went free while Jesus, an innocent man, was executed after having his impeccable character assassinated. This is the essence of partisanship. Partisans inflate the best features of their party while inflating the worst features, real or contrived, of the other party. They ignore the weaknesses of their own party while dismissing the other party's strengths. I have good friends on both sides of the political aisle. I trust them. Many of them - on both sides - have a strong commitment to their faith. Because of this I grow perplexed when Christian men and women willingly participate in spin - ready, willing, and armed to follow the world in telling half-truths to promote their candidates, while telling more half-truths to demonize their opponents. Have we forgotten that a half-truth is the equivalent of a full lie? What's more, political spin is polarizing even within the community of faith. ~ Scott Sauls
Simon Bolivar quotes by Scott Sauls
The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich, A History of Nazi Germany, by William L. Shirer, Simon and Schuster, 1960, New York; Hitler, a Study in Tyranny, by Alan Bullock, Harper, 1953, New York; ~ Philip K. Dick
Simon Bolivar quotes by Philip K. Dick
As a kid, I was a huge fan of movies and acting. My mom was in the sort of community theater, and I always hung around down there, and I was a massive fan of everything I'm kind of involved in now. But fairly ordinary and cheeky. ~ Simon Pegg
Simon Bolivar quotes by Simon Pegg
I want to be someone's right now, Simon, not their happily ever after. ~ Rainbow Rowell
Simon Bolivar quotes by Rainbow Rowell
He'd asked Simon about that. Why would the archangels potentially sabotage an organization that made their lives a hell of a lot easier? "It's a game," Simon had said. "They need us, but they'll never allow us to forget that they're the more powerful. Attacking me, attacking Sara, isn't about stopping the Guild - it's about reminding us the Cadre is watching. ~ Nalini Singh
Simon Bolivar quotes by Nalini Singh
This is like when we have an argument," Happy said to Melody. "And you go stomping around the room, being mad at me but refusing to say what's wrong because I'm supposed to know. And I never do. ~ Simon R. Green
Simon Bolivar quotes by Simon R. Green
She thought of the way Jace had looked at her then, the blaze of faith in his eyes, his belief in her. He had always thought she was strong. He had showed it in everything he did, in every look and every touch. Simon had faith in her too, yet when he'd held her, it had been as if she were something fragile, something made of delicate glass. But Jace had held her with all the strength he had, never wondering if she could take it
he'd known she was as strong as he was. ~ Cassandra Clare
Simon Bolivar quotes by Cassandra Clare
Well, it is a hunt for him, isn't it? Hunting, capturing. Power. I watch the telly. I know how these serial killers work.' He tapped his chest. 'Just call me Patrick Jane.'

Jacquie looked at him fondly. His eyes were either side of his nose and that was where his similarity to Simon Baker ended. 'No, darling,' she said gently. 'You're mental, please try and remember. He's the Mentalist. ~ M.J. Trow
Simon Bolivar quotes by M.J. Trow
Cookery is a wholly unselfish art: as 'art for art's sake' it is unthinkable. A man may sing in his bath every morning without the least encouragement, but no cook can cook just for his or her own sake in a like manner. All good cooks, like all great artists, must have an audience worth cooking for. ~ Andre Simon
Simon Bolivar quotes by Andre Simon
A movement only exists when people are inspired to move,
to do something, to make the cause their own. ~ Simon Sinek
Simon Bolivar quotes by Simon Sinek
Oh, Draven. You're my hero too! If not for you, that mean old boar would have eaten me alive. (Simon)
Get off me, you nimble-pated gelding. (Draven) ~ Kinley MacGregor
Simon Bolivar quotes by Kinley MacGregor
I'm a little old-fashioned - I like it when the man opens the door and I like it when a man pays for me. I particularly like it when they pay for dinner or whatever, because I've pretty much done the opposite, but for the exception of James [Taylor], where we split everything down the middle. I've been the larger money earner in practically all of my relationships. There's equality and there are positive differences, which are complimentary. ~ Carly Simon
Simon Bolivar quotes by Carly Simon
Sea, autumnal sweetness, islands bathed in light, diaphanous cloak of delicate rainfall clothing Greece's eternal bareness. "Happy the person," I thought, "who is deemed worthy, before dying, to sail the Aegean." This world offers many pleasures: women, fruit, ideas. But I think no pleasure exists that plunges a person's heart into Paradise more than the joy of cutting across this sea on a gentle autumn day, murmuring the name of each island. Nowhere else are you transported from truth to dream with such serenity and ease. Boundaries fade; the mast of even the most dilapidated ship sprouts buds and grapes. Here in Greece, truly, necessity blossoms most certainly into miracle.

Kazantzakis, Nikos. Zorba the Greek (p. 23). Simon & Schuster. Kindle Edition. ~ Nikos Kazantzakis
Simon Bolivar quotes by Nikos Kazantzakis
Among my European ancestors were piano builders, goldsmiths, and vintners but, to the best of my knowledge, no professionals of any kind. ~ Herbert A. Simon
Simon Bolivar quotes by Herbert A. Simon
My look was even more solidified when I started singing in Greenwich Village with my sister Lucy. We wore matching dresses as the Simon Sisters. ~ Carly Simon
Simon Bolivar quotes by Carly Simon
We might even define the human as a dynamic process produced by a series of identifications and misidentifications with animality. ~ Simon Critchley
Simon Bolivar quotes by Simon Critchley
Mary had a crypto key, she kept it in escrow, and everything that Mary said, the Feds were sure to know. ~ Sam Simon
Simon Bolivar quotes by Sam Simon
I just want you to know," Alec said as he held his wrist out, "that I realize that to you
vampires this feeding business sometimes equals sexy times."
Simon's eyes widened.
"My sister may have told me more than I wanted to know," Alec admitted. "Anyway, my point is that I am not attracted to you in the slightest. ~ Cassandra Clare
Simon Bolivar quotes by Cassandra Clare
I had this terrible stammer, so I couldn't really speak properly until I was 16 or 17. ~ Carly Simon
Simon Bolivar quotes by Carly Simon
In Washington, the first thing people tell you is what their job is. In Los Angeles you learn their star sign. In Houston you're told how rich they are. And in New York they tell you what their rent is. ~ Simon Hoggart
Simon Bolivar quotes by Simon Hoggart
Many actors have protested about mobile phones going off in theatres, but the real menace now is people texting during a show. It may only disturb a few people around them, but for me, as an actor, when I spot them answering their emails, I am outraged. ~ Simon Callow
Simon Bolivar quotes by Simon Callow
Offer your strengths to others and you'll be amazed how many people offer their strengths to you. ~ Simon Sinek
Simon Bolivar quotes by Simon Sinek
And she wept as well for the others lost in the Dark War, and she wept for her mother and the loss she had endured, and she wept for Emma and the Blackthorns, remembering how they had fought back tears when she had told them that she had seen Mark in the tunnels of Faerie, and how he belonged to the Hunt now, and she wept for Simon and the hole in her heart where he had been, and the she would miss him every day until she died, and she wept for herself and the changes that had been wrought in her, because sometimes even change for the better felt like a little death. ~ Cassandra Clare
Simon Bolivar quotes by Cassandra Clare
Who is fit to be elected?' asked Napoleon. 'A Caesar, an Alexander only comes along once a century, so that election must be a matter of chance. ~ Simon Sebag Montefiore
Simon Bolivar quotes by Simon Sebag Montefiore
But watch where you step, I don't want any clues trampled on.' 'I will trample on your soft and delicate bits if you patronize me again,' said Penny. I looked at MacKay. 'It's true. She would. ~ Simon R. Green
Simon Bolivar quotes by Simon R. Green
Your worst fears do come alive ~ Leanne Miranda
Simon Bolivar quotes by Leanne Miranda
People come and people go, but time moves ever forward. We are but chaff that is cast aside in it's wake ~ Simon Beecher
Simon Bolivar quotes by Simon Beecher
If our best efforts come to nothing often enough, we need consolation, and thoughts of unfolding, infinite destiny, or karma , are sometimes consoling. ~ Simon Blackburn
Simon Bolivar quotes by Simon Blackburn
Lord God Almighty, I entrust myself and all that I do in Your Holy Name. Having wakened to a brand new day, please guide me to walk God's path where all my actions and thoughts be made in accordance to Your will. I beg Your indulgence O Lord, to give me enlightenment to start the day that has You in mind; and in joyous supplication, of your benevolence and mercy towards all Your creations. My Lord, I beg Your continued assistance, your holy angels and all the saints in heaven to make me tow the straight and narrow path; and be kept away from sins ~ Simon H. Louis
Simon Bolivar quotes by Simon H. Louis
Success always takes help. Failure is done alone. ~ Simon Sinek
Simon Bolivar quotes by Simon Sinek
Daphne," he said with controlled gentleness, "what is wrong?"
She sat down opposite him and placed a hand on his cheek. "I'm so insensitive," she whispered. "I should have known. I should never have said anything."
"Should have known what?" he ground out.
Her hand fell away. "That you can't - that you couldn't - "
"Can't what?"
She looked down at her lap, where her hands were attempting to wring each other to shreds. "Please don't make me say it," she said.
'This," Simon muttered, "has got to be why men avoid marriage. ~ Julia Quinn
Simon Bolivar quotes by Julia Quinn
I think anyone can fall in love, if you're open and you're willing, but the real test is sustaining it after all the excitement has worn off. ~ Simon Van Booy
Simon Bolivar quotes by Simon Van Booy
Some in management positions operate as if they are in a tree of monkeys. They make sure that everyone at the top of the tree looking down sees only smiles. But all too often, those at the bottom looking up see only asses. ~ Simon Sinek
Simon Bolivar quotes by Simon Sinek
How are you feeling?"
"Like someone massaged me with a cheese grater."

"A piano."
"Simon."
"A really huge metronome that could also double as a weapon? ~ Cassandra Clare
Simon Bolivar quotes by Cassandra Clare
Don't listen to those who say, you are taking too big a chance. Michelangelo would have painted the Sistine floor, and it would surely be rubbed out by today. Most important, don't listen when the little voice of fear inside you rears its ugly head and says "They are all smarter than you out there. They're more talented, they're taller, blonder, prettier, luckier, and they have connections." I firmly believe that if you follow a path that interests you, not to the exclusion of love, sensitivity, and cooperation with others, but with the strength of conviction that you can move others by your own efforts, and do not make success or failure the criteria by which you live, the chances are you'll be a person worthy of your own respects. ~ Neil Simon
Simon Bolivar quotes by Neil Simon
So, technically," Simon said, "even though Jace isn't actually related to you, you have kissed your brother. ~ Cassandra Clare
Simon Bolivar quotes by Cassandra Clare
Simon's horse was defective, or possibly a genius that had worked out that Simon could not possibly control it. It went off for a wander in the woods, with Simon on its back alternately pleading, threatening, and offering bribes. If Simon's horse could read his every thought, then Simon's horse was a sadist. ~ Cassandra Clare
Simon Bolivar quotes by Cassandra Clare
Offer someone the opportunity to rebuild a company or reinvent an industry as the primary incentive, and it will attract those drawn to the challenge first and the money second. ~ Simon Sinek
Simon Bolivar quotes by Simon Sinek
She looked out then, through the crowd, and saw Simon with the Lightwoods, looking at her across the empty space that separated them. It was the same way that Jace had looked at her at the manor. It was the one thread that bound these two boys that she loved so much, she thought, their one commonality: They both believed in her even when she didn't believe in herself. ~ Cassandra Clare
Simon Bolivar quotes by Cassandra Clare
He was always right beside me, but we were never in the same place. ~ Jacqueline Simon Gunn
