All things being at God's disposal, and the decision of salvation or death belonging to him, he orders all things by his counsel and decree in such a manner, that some men are born devoted from the womb to certain death, that his name may be glorified in their destruction. ~ John Calvin
Destruction quotes by John Calvin
Knowledge of self ought to be the great project of our lives. Knowing ourselves we will know others. Only by knowing ourselves can we begin to undo the madness we unleash on the world in our wars, our destruction of the environment, our divisions, our desire to dominate others, the poverty we create and exploit. Only through self-knowledge can we reverse the damage we do with all the worldly knowledge we have, which has been only a higher ignorance. ~ Ben Okri
Destruction quotes by Ben Okri
As I see the world, there's one element that's even more corrosive than missionaries: tourists. It's not that I feel above them in any way, but that the very places they patronize are destroyed by their affection. ~ Tahir Shah
Destruction quotes by Tahir Shah
So if you hear something in this book that sounds like advocacy of a particular political point of view, please reject the notion. My interest in issues is merely to point out how badly we're doing, not to suggest a way we might do better.
Don't confuse me with those who cling to hope. I enjoy describing how things are, I have no interest in how they ought to be. And I certainly have no interest in fixing them. I sincerely believe that if you think there's a solution, you're part of the problem.
My motto: Fuck Hope.
P.S. In case you're wondering, personally I'm a joyful individual, I had a long happy marriage and a close and loving family, my career has turned out better than I ever dreamed, and it continues to expand. I'm a personal optimist, but a skeptic about all else. What may sound to some like anger, is really nothing more than sympathetic contempt. I view my species with a combination of wonder and pity, and I root for its destruction. And please don't confuse my point of view with cynicism–the real cynics are the ones who tell you everything's gonna be all right.
And P.P.S., by the way, if by some chance you folks do manage to straighten things out and make everything better, I still don't wish to be included. ~ George Carlin
Destruction quotes by George Carlin
As for myself, what has died for me has died, so to speak, into my own heart: when I looked for him, the person who vanished has collected himself strangely and so surprisingly in me, and it was so moving to feel he was now only there that my enthusiasm for serving his new existence, for deepening and glorifying it, took the upper hand almost at the very moment when pain would otherwise have invaded and devastated the whole landscape of my spirit. When I remember how I - often with the utmost difficulty in understanding and accepting each other - loved my father! Often, in childhood, my mind became confused and my heart grew numb at the mere thought that someday he might no longer be; my existence seemed to me so wholly conditioned through him (my existence, which from the start was pointed in such a different direction!) that his departure was to my innermost self synonymous with my own destruction …, but so deeply is death rooted in the essence of love that (if only we are cognizant of death without letting ourselves be misled by the uglinesses and suspicions that have been attached to it) it nowhere contradicts love: where, after all, can it drive out someone whom we have carried unsayably in our heart except into this very heart, where would the "idea" of this loved being exist, and his unceasing influence (: for how could that cease which even while he lived with us was more and more independent of his tangible presence) … where would this always secret influence be more ~ Rainer Maria Rilke
Destruction quotes by Rainer Maria Rilke
The news I bring is to say that, man being the only animal who hates himself, the likely fate of the world is total self-destruction. ~ Hanif Kureishi
Destruction quotes by Hanif Kureishi
Note the three most important Cabinet positions. Rice said that it was better to find the weapons of mass destruction than to see a mushroom cloud. ~ Andrew Greeley
Destruction quotes by Andrew Greeley
Looting and site destruction are global problems. We have a tough road ahead, and one key will be developing more collaborations and using new technologies like satellite imagery. ~ Sarah Parcak
Destruction quotes by Sarah Parcak
It's a tragedy what is happening, what Bush is doing. All Bush wants is Iraqi oil. There is no doubt that the U.S. is behaving badly. Why are they not seeking to confiscate weapons of mass destruction from their ally Israel? This is just an excuse to get Iraq's oil. ~ Nelson Mandela
Destruction quotes by Nelson Mandela
I believe that order is better than chaos, creation better than destruction. I prefer gentleness to violence, forgiveness to vendetta. On the whole I think knowledge is preferable to ignorance, and I am sure human sympathy is more valuable than ideology. ~ Leo Tolstoy
Destruction quotes by Leo Tolstoy
Instead of helping women in Roe v. Wade, I brought destruction to me & millions of women. ~ Norma McCorvey
Destruction quotes by Norma McCorvey
Opposites are joined at the hip. Night and day, poisons and pleasures, innovation and destruction are usually different facets of the very same thing. [...] Opposites work together in the very opposite of the way they seem - not tearing each other to bits or threatening to annihilate each other. ~ Howard Bloom
Destruction quotes by Howard Bloom
To eat is to appropriate by destruction. ~ Jean-Paul Sartre
Destruction quotes by Jean-Paul Sartre
The quickest path to self-destruction is to push away the people you love. ~ Cassia Leo
Destruction quotes by Cassia Leo
As the current U.S.-Israel assault raged, New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman explained that Israel's tactics in the current attack, as in its invasion of Lebanon in 2006, are based on the sound principle of "trying to 'educate' Hamas, by inflicting a heavy death toll on Hamas militants and heavy pain on the Gaza population." That makes sense on pragmatic grounds, as it did in Lebanon, where "the only long-term source of deterrence was to exact enough pain on the civilians - the families and employers of the militants - to restrain Hezbollah in the future."10 And by similar logic, bin Laden's effort to "educate" Americans on 9/11 was highly praiseworthy, as were the Nazi attacks on Lidice and Oradour, Putin's destruction of Grozny, and other notable educational exercises. ~ Noam Chomsky
Destruction quotes by Noam Chomsky
Revenge can only be found on the road to self-destruction. ~ Wayne Gerard Trotman
Destruction quotes by Wayne Gerard Trotman
The camera is one of the most frightening of modern weapons, particularly to people who have been in warfare, who have been bombed and shelled for at the back of a bombing run is invariably a photograph. In the back of ruined towns, and cities, and factories, there is aerial mapping, or spy mapping, usually with a camera. Therefore the camera is a feared instrument, and a man with a camera is suspected and watched wherever he goes ... In the minds of most people today the camera is the forerunner of destruction, and it is suspected, and rightly so. ~ John Steinbeck
Destruction quotes by John Steinbeck
God had told the survivors of Sodom and Gomorrah not to look back after they'd been rescued from death and destruction, and if Jo's family continued to gaze into the past, they were going to become stuck in place like pillars of salt, too. ~ Lynn Austin
Destruction quotes by Lynn Austin
During our glorious year of 1974–5, while I was dithering over gravitational waves, and Stephen was leading our merged group in black hole research, Stephen himself had an insight even more radical than his discovery of Hawking radiation. He gave a compelling, almost airtight proof that, when a black hole forms and then subsequently evaporates away completely by emitting radiation, the information that went into the black hole cannot come back out. Information is inevitably lost.
This is radical because the laws of quantum physics insist unequivocally that information can never get totally lost. So, if Stephen was right, black holes violate a most fundamental quantum mechanical law.
How could this be? The black hole's evaporation is governed by the combined laws of quantum mechanics and general relativity - the ill-understood laws of quantum gravity; and so, Stephen reasoned, the fiery marriage of relativity and quantum physics must lead to information destruction.
The great majority of theoretical physicists find this conclusion abhorrent. They are highly sceptical. And so, for forty-four years they have struggled with this so-called information-loss paradox. It is a struggle well worth the effort and anguish that have gone into it, since this paradox is a powerful key for understanding the quantum gravity laws. Stephen himself, in 2003, found a way that information might escape during the hole's evaporation, but that did not quell theorists' struggles. Stephe ~ Stephen Hawking
Destruction quotes by Stephen Hawking
The cause of these great extinctions, the most extensive in the seventy-million-year record for mammals, is a mystery. The two prevailing guesses, climatic environmental pressure or the destruction caused by human immigration in these regions, are at a stalemate. Nearly all regions of extinction were briefly inhabited by early humans, which is why some feel they played roles. I was not there at the time, so I can only speculate, but surely a global catastrophe of some sort triggered the cataclysm. ~ Stephen J. O'Brien
Destruction quotes by Stephen J. O'Brien
At home they thought of white people as a vague but powerful entity
like the forces that control the weather, that capable of destruction, that hidden from view. ~ Ayana Mathis
Destruction quotes by Ayana Mathis
By sort of combining the research of a lot of smart people, I came up with an equation for dread [dread=uncontrollability+unfamiliarity+imaginability+suffering+scale of destruction+unfairness]. The dread equation is a simplification, but it's a way to explain why we fear something so much when it is so unlikely. Part of it is the lack of control. That's why we're more scared of plane crashes than car crashes even though we know rationally which is more dangerous. ~ Amanda Ripley
Destruction quotes by Amanda Ripley
June 16, 2018

I feel lovely, but it's just the drugs. But sometimes I think that maybe it isn't just the drugs? Maybe these feelings are inside of us all along, and the drugs find them. Maybe that's why some people choose to be junkies because they choose to believe that they're worthy of happiness. And maybe some of us like the pain so much that we numb it in order for us to really understand it. To put these suicidal feelings to sleep and fall in love with the way we fall in love with the stars within us. I think self-destruction is the most addictive thing. There's something very powerful and magical about it. ~ Juansen Dizon
Destruction quotes by Juansen Dizon
This new power, which has proved itself to be such a terrifying weapon of destruction, is harnessed for the first time for the common good of our community. ~ Queen Elizabeth II
Destruction quotes by Queen Elizabeth II
To the Green movement in which infantilism is seen at its worst, authority is a far more serious evil than the destruction of life. ~ Pentti Linkola
Destruction quotes by Pentti Linkola
The attendance of that brother was now become like the attendance of a demon on some devoted being that had sold himself to destruction ~ James Hogg
Destruction quotes by James Hogg
To refuse to do something because you've already done it, because you've already been there, rapidly leads to the destruction, for yourself as much as for others, of any reason for living, for any possible future, and it plunges you into an oppressive ennui that will eventually transform into atrocious bitterness, accompanied by hatred and rancor toward those who still belong to the land of the living. ~ Michel Houellebecq
Destruction quotes by Michel Houellebecq
I find it impossible to subscribe to a philosophy that believes that the destruction of human life is a legitimate solution to a problem that is mostly social, economic and psychological, ... In reality, most women 'choose' abortion because they believe they have no other choice. ~ Patricia Heaton
Destruction quotes by Patricia Heaton
I think you have always heard, and you continue to hear from officials, a measure of high confidence that, indeed, the weapons of mass destruction will be found. ~ Ari Fleischer
Destruction quotes by Ari Fleischer
Revenge is a human trait, one that has been the cause of the destruction of civilisations many times over. But the goblins live on in peace and harmony, taking little notice of us and our mistakes. ~ Count Anton Dance Of The Goblins
Destruction quotes by Count Anton Dance Of The Goblins
Saddam Hussein is a homicidal dictator who is addicted to weapons of mass destruction. ~ George W. Bush
Destruction quotes by George W. Bush
Take one famous example: arguments about property destruction after Seattle. Most of these, I think, were really arguments about capitalism. Those who decried window-breaking did so mainly because they wished to appeal to middle-class consumers to move towards global exchange-style green consumerism, and to ally with labor bureaucracies and social democrats abroad. This was not a path designed to provoke a direct confrontation with capitalism, and most of those who urged us to take this route were at least skeptical about the possibility that capitalism could ever really be defeated. Many were in fact in favor of capitalism, if in a significantly humanized form. Those who did break windows, on the other hand, didn't care if they offended suburban homeowners, because they did not figure that suburban homeowners were likely to ever become a significant element in any future revolutionary anticapitalist coalition. They were trying, in effect, to hijack the media to send a message that the system was vulnerable -- hoping to inspire similar insurrectionary acts on the part of those who might be considering entering a genuinely revolutionary alliance; alienated teenagers, oppressed people of color, undocumented workers, rank-and-file laborers impatient with union bureaucrats, the homeless, the unemployed, the criminalized, the radically discontent. If a militant anticapitalist movement was to begin, in America, it would have to start with people like these: people who don't need to ~ David Graeber
Destruction quotes by David Graeber
The bird skins surely held answers to questions that scientist didn't yet know to ask, and they must be protected at all costs.
"If this is not done," he warned, "future ages will certainly look back upon us as a people so immersed in the pursuit of wealth as to be blind to higher considerations. They will charge us with having culpably allowed the destruction of some of those records of Creation which we had it in our power to preserve."

quoted in The Feather Thief, Kirk Wallace Johnson ~ Alfred Russel Wallace
Destruction quotes by Alfred Russel Wallace
To think of food as a weapon, or of a weapon as food, may give an illusory security and wealth to a few, but it strikes directly at the life of all.

The concept of food-as-weapon is not surprisingly the doctrine of a Department of Agriculture that is being used as an instrument of foreign political and economic speculation. This militarizing of food is the greatest threat so far raised against the farmland and the farm communities of this country. If present attitudes continue, we may expect government policies that will encourage the destruction, by overuse, of farmland. This, of course, has already begun. To answer the official call for more production -- evidently to be used to bait or bribe foreign countries -- farmers are plowing their waterways and permanent pastures; lands that ought to remain in grass are being planted in row crops. Contour plowing, crop rotation, and other conservation measures seem to have gone out of favor or fashion in official circles and are practices less and less on the farm. This exclusive emphasis on production will accelerate the mechanization and chemicalization of farming, increase the price of land, increase overhead and operating costs, and thereby further diminish the farm population. Thus the tendency, if not the intention, of Mr. Butz confusion of farming and war, is to complete the deliverance of American agriculture into the hands of corporations. ~ Wendell Berry
Destruction quotes by Wendell Berry
Many later commented on the fact that large numbers of those engaged in the most senseless acts of destruction were left well alone by cops, indeed people dressed as Black Block members were seen freely making their way across police lines and talking to cops. ~ John Blair
Destruction quotes by John Blair
Events. Events in response to other events. Think about it. Nothing since the big bang has happened without a reason. And even the big bang might have come from something, because of something. One thing makes another thing, and then that thing makes the next thing. Look at these kids. These two brothers, still kids. They don't know themselves yet. They are acting in response, in reaction, passionate reaction to something that set them off, made them commit to violence. They would not be here if the United States had not invaded Iraq in 2003. The United States would not have had fertile ground for the lie it told about Irag, weapons of mass destruction, Saddam Hussein, etc., etc., if not for Osama bin Laden and 9/11. Osama bin Laden would not have been able to recruit those men to learn how to fly planes and then crash them into buildings if not for propaganda about the persecution of the global Muslims, Afghanistan after the Russian invasion, Chechnya in the nineties, Bosnian genocides, or any instance of Islam under attack by the West, one culture trying to extinguish another. History is always a story of cause and effect. ~ Laleh Khadivi
Destruction quotes by Laleh Khadivi
...it takes only a modest amount of disruption to create an inordinate amount of mayhem. It's not necessary to wreak all the destruction yourself. Just begin with a fair amount and man's stupidity and selfishness will do the rest. ~ David Maine
Destruction quotes by David Maine
It isn't God, Matthew,I said. The destruction, losing Gary. It's humans alone that have the power to destroy. I don't know why God didn't plan it differently, but that's the way it is. Maybe he just has too much faith in us. ~ Anne C. Voorhoeve
Destruction quotes by Anne C. Voorhoeve
Hunger is actually the worst weapon of mass destruction. It claims millions of victims each year. ~ Luiz Inacio Lula Da Silva
Destruction quotes by Luiz Inacio Lula Da Silva
Love and hate. Good and bad. Salvation and destruction. They weren't opposites, either. We were both. I was both. Maybe everyone was. Maybe that was okay. Maybe we did what we could with whatever we were given. ~ Maggie Hall
Destruction quotes by Maggie Hall
Soul Abuse is the destruction of a victim's awareness of the strength within their soul. It stems from the abuser's intention to corrupt another's understanding of their own significance. ~ Lorraine Nilon
Destruction quotes by Lorraine Nilon
The difference was principally in the invisible places toward which their respective hearts were turned. They dreamed of Cairo with its autonomous government, its army, its newspapers and its cinema, while he, facing in the same direction, dreamed just a little beyond Cairo, across the Bhar El Hamar to Mecca. They thought in terms of grievances, censorship, petitions and reforms; he, like any good Moslem who knows only the tenets of his religion, in terms of destiny and divine justice. If the word 'independence' was uttered, they saw platoons of Moslem soldiers marching through streets were all the signs were written in Arabic script, they saw factories and power plants rising from the fields; he saw skies of flame, the wings of avenging angels, and total destruction. ~ Paul Bowles
Destruction quotes by Paul Bowles
[E]ven in gay, easygoing, and carefree minds there may exist a presentiment of dark powers within ourselves which are bent upon our own destruction. ~ E.T.A. Hoffmann
Destruction quotes by E.T.A. Hoffmann
The leaders have the responsibility to protect and hold in high esteem the law and virtues of the land. ~ Sunday Adelaja
Destruction quotes by Sunday Adelaja
Too many people in the U.S. support death and destruction without being aware of it. They indirectly support the killing our people without ever having to look at the corpses ~ Assata Shakur
Destruction quotes by Assata Shakur
I'm so glad I'm not 20 years old anymore. I was in a hurricane. I'm a lot calmer now. I don't cause destruction for myself and others everywhere I go. ~ Christina Ricci
Destruction quotes by Christina Ricci
I would lay down my life to defend any one of the States from aggression, which endangered peace or threatened its institutions. I could do more for the union, but I wish to do more; for the destruction of the union would be the destruction of all the States. A stab in the heart is worse then a cut in a limb, for this may be healed. ~ Sam Houston
Destruction quotes by Sam Houston
With overwhelming military strength now deployed against him and with intense monitoring from space surveillance and the U.N. inspection team on the ground, any belligerent move by Saddam against a neighbor would be suicidal ... If Iraq does possess such concealed weapons, as is quite likely, Saddam would use them only in the most extreme circumstances, in the face of an invasion of Iraq, when all hope of avoiding the destruction of his regime is lost ... ~ Jimmy Carter
Destruction quotes by Jimmy Carter
Criticism in good faith is good. When it's targeted solely to destruction, I'm not interested. ~ Andrea Bocelli
Destruction quotes by Andrea Bocelli
When greed is enthroned, be it in a community or nation, ungodliness is celebrated at the altar of human pleasure. ~ Sunday Adelaja
Destruction quotes by Sunday Adelaja
The question then is how to get lost. Never to get lost is not to live, not to know how to get lost brings you to destruction and somewhere in the terra incognita in between lies a life of discovery. Thoreau: 'Not till we are lost, in other words, not till we have lost the world, do we begin to find ourselves, and realize where we are and the infinite extent of our relations…' Lose the whole world, he asserts, get lost in it, and find your soul. ~ Rebecca Solnit
Destruction quotes by Rebecca Solnit
You have enchanted me
with a single kiss
Which can never be undone
Until the destruction of language ~ Kenneth Koch
Destruction quotes by Kenneth Koch
What I got in exchange for my false prosperity was only a fearful destruction, a cold mask, and a pitch-dark castle like a mausoleum that the Phantom made. ~ Mizuki Nomura
Destruction quotes by Mizuki Nomura
In short, Arab leaders committed to the destruction of Israel invented the concept "Palestinian people" in order to justify their interminable war against Israel. ~ Meir Levi, David
Destruction quotes by Meir Levi, David
Whiskey grunted. By his count, he and Patrick had six days to go before he hauled the kid out by his ear on field work and let Fly Bait plan the destruction of all testosterone-based land mammals on general principal. ~ Amy Lane
Destruction quotes by Amy Lane
Any country on the face of the Earth with an active intelligence program knows that Iraq has weapons of mass destruction. ~ Donald Rumsfeld
Destruction quotes by Donald Rumsfeld
We wouldn't believe that the Germans, known as the enlightened world as 'bearers of culture,' were capable of planning and carrying out, in cold blood, without pity, the mass destruction of human beings by industrial means, as if they were bedbugs, flies, or other pests to be exterminated. ~ Joseph Bau
Destruction quotes by Joseph Bau
The public craves disaster. Don't understand it myself, but the more tragic, the more intriguing. And this catastrophe has it all. Death, destruction, melodrama. What more could people want? ~ Marian Cheatham
Destruction quotes by Marian Cheatham
You are capable of great things, he said with conviction. If by great things, he meant complete destruction, then yes, it would seem so. ~ Pippa DaCosta
Destruction quotes by Pippa DaCosta
Democracy, like the human organism, carries within it the seed of its own destruction. ~ C.V. Wedgwood
Destruction quotes by C.V. Wedgwood
When exactly did this downward cultural spiral begin, this loss of tact and refinement and understanding that some things should not be said or directly represented? When did we no longer appreciate that to dignify certain modes of behavior, manners, and ways of being with artistic representation was implicitly to glorify and promote them? There is, as Adam Smith said, a deal of ruin in a nation: and this truth applies as much to a nation's culture as to its economy. The work of cultural destruction, while often swifter, easier, and more self-conscious than that of construction, is not the work of a moment. Rome wasn't destroyed in a day. ~ Theodore Dalrymple
Destruction quotes by Theodore Dalrymple
We are causing war and destruction among ourselves for all the wrong reasons. ~ Shannon A. Thompson
Destruction quotes by Shannon A. Thompson
We were told by the president that we had no alternative but to go into Iraq because of the threat that Saddam Hussein's weapons of mass destruction posed, but to date, these weapons have not been found. ~ Jay Rockefeller
Destruction quotes by Jay Rockefeller
In Hinduism, Shiva is a deity who represents transformation. Through destruction and restoration, Shiva reminds us that endings are beginnings, and that our world is constantly undergoing a cycle of birth, death and rebirth. ~ Karen Salmansohn
Destruction quotes by Karen Salmansohn
I have been asked whether I would agree that the tragedy of the scientist is that he is able to bring about great advances in our knowledge, which mankind may then proceed to use for purposes of destruction. My answer is that this is not the tragedy of the scientist; it is the tragedy of mankind. ~ Leo Szilard
Destruction quotes by Leo Szilard
All over the world people are now sleeping in their beds, or perhaps they are engaged in some idiotic pastime; and one might easily believe that each in his own way is doing his best to deserve destruction. But that destruction will bring no freedom. ~ Czeslaw Milosz
Destruction quotes by Czeslaw Milosz
You cannot save everyone. Some people are going to destroy themselves no matter how much you try to help them. ~ Bryant McGill
Destruction quotes by Bryant McGill
How much wreckage and destruction justifies the creation of a better world? ~ Julie Bertagna
Destruction quotes by Julie Bertagna
Now there is a final reason I think that Jesus says, "Love your enemies." It is this: that love has within it a redemptive power. And there is a power there that eventually transforms individuals. Just keep being friendly to that person. Just keep loving them, and they can't stand it too long. Oh, they react in many ways in the beginning. They react with guilt feelings, and sometimes they'll hate you a little more at that transition period, but just keep loving them. And by the power of your love they will break down under the load. That's love, you see. It is redemptive, and this is why Jesus says love. There's something about love that builds up and is creative. There is something about hate that tears down and is destructive. So love your enemies. (from "Loving Your Enemies") ~ Martin Luther King, Jr.
Destruction quotes by Martin Luther King, Jr.
If you go to Europe, public bathrooms have any-gender sink areas and stalls for everyone to use. This is completely reasonable. It potentially involves the destruction of the urinal industry, which I think people would be happy to see go away. ~ Jill Soloway
Destruction quotes by Jill Soloway
I would warn Orlando that you're right in the way of some serious hurricanes, and I don't think I'd be waving those flags [gay pride flags] in God's face if I were you, This is not a message of hate , this is a message of redemption. But a condition like this will bring about the destruction of your nation. It'll bring about terrorist bombs; it'll bring earthquakes, tornadoes, and possibly a meteor. ~ Pat Robertson
Destruction quotes by Pat Robertson
The worst threat to man is man himself ~ Bangambiki Habyarimana
Destruction quotes by Bangambiki Habyarimana
The gift of Dharma surpasses all gifts. The taste of Dharma surpasses all tastes. The delight in Dharma surpasses all delights. The destruction of craving conquers all suffering. ~ Gil Fronsdal
Destruction quotes by Gil Fronsdal
Socialism of any type leads to a total destruction of the human spirit. ~ Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn
Destruction quotes by Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn
An ignorant people is the blind instrument of its own destruction. ~ Simon Bolivar
Destruction quotes by Simon Bolivar
What man knows is little enough and most of his general concepts in every field are vitiated by the artificial concepts he has created to cover his ignorance. These concepts must be destroyed. One tool exists that can accomplish this destruction, and this tool is in your hands. It is simply curiosity - the instinct to ask and to question. It should be kept sharp and used without mercy. ~ Charles H. Hapgood
Destruction quotes by Charles H. Hapgood
Uncertainty is everywhere. But I am living in the midst of the uncertainty and risk, amid things that can and do bring physical destruction, because I am running from things that can destroy my soul, complacency, comfort and ignorance. I am much more terrified of living a comfortable life in a self serving society and failing to follow Jesus than I am of any illness or tragedy. ~ Katie J. Davis
Destruction quotes by Katie J. Davis
Maybe we ought to consider that sometimes the most destructive outcomes in our lives are the ones that we've created. ~ Craig D. Lounsbrough
Destruction quotes by Craig D. Lounsbrough
Some people accuse me of exaggeration, so let me be clear. Those people seek nothing less than the complete and utter destruction of the American way of life. ~ Al Gore
Destruction quotes by Al Gore
The academic literature describes marshals who "'police' other demonstrators," and who have a "collaborative relationship" with the authorities. This is essentially a strategy of co-optation. The police enlist the protest organizers to control the demonstrators, putting the organization at least partly in the service of the state and intensifying the function of control. (...)

Police/protestor cooperation required a fundamental adjustment in the attitude of the authorities. The Negotiated Management approach demanded the institutionalization of protest. Demonstrations had to be granted some degree of legitimacy so they could be carefully managed rather than simply shoved about. This approach de-emphasized the radical or antagonistic aspects of protest in favor of a routinized and collaborative approach. Naturally such a relationship brought with it some fairly tight constraints as to the kinds of protest activity available. Rallies, marches, polite picketing, symbolic civil disobedience actions, and even legal direct action - such as strikes or boycotts - were likely to be acceptable, within certain limits. Violence, obviously, would not be tolerated. Neither would property destruction. Nor would any of the variety of tactics that had been developed to close businesses, prevent logging, disrupt government meetings, or otherwise interfere with the operation of some part of society. That is to say, picketing may be fine, barricades are not. Rallies were in, riots ~ Kristian Williams
Destruction quotes by Kristian Williams
The more innocuous the name of a weapon, the more hideous its impact. Some of the most horrific weapons of the Vietnam era were named 'Bambi', 'Infant', 'Daisycutter', 'Grasshopper', and 'Agent Orange'. Nor is the trend new: from the past we have 'Mustard Gas', 'Angel Chasers' (two cannonballs linked with a chain for added destruction) and 'The Peacemaker' to name but a few.) ~ Paul Dickson
Destruction quotes by Paul Dickson
Part of the terrible irony of war is that it enlists the best in human nature for purposes of mutual destruction. ~ Lesslie Newbigin
Destruction quotes by Lesslie Newbigin
I'm starting to think that most villains aren't evil - they are just misundertood.
Or victims of that manipulative force: Love.
Love causes war and causes death, breaks souls and breaks lives. It runs people into the ground, makes them behave like moronic, immoral beasts, before it dances off, leaving only destruction in its wake - hearts blown wide open for the whole world to see.
Love puts the blame on the poor souls who succumb to it.
Love, that ultimate villainess. She makes examples of us all.
And yet we still come back for more.
We keep playing the role she gives us.
For one more chance to feel alive. ~ Karina Halle
Destruction quotes by Karina Halle
Poetry is a dissociating and anarchic force which through analogy, associations and imagery, thrives on the destruction of known relationships. ~ Antonin Artaud
Destruction quotes by Antonin Artaud
Moreover, behind this vague tendency to treat religion as a side issue in modern life, there exists a strong body of opinion that is actively hostile to Christianity and that regards the destruction of positive religion as absolutely necessary to the advance of modern culture. ~ Christopher Dawson
Destruction quotes by Christopher Dawson
Arabs are a complete abstraction in the propaganda world and all the death and destruction is completely unreal to Americans. ~ Aleksandar Hemon
Destruction quotes by Aleksandar Hemon
To be free from destruction mindset of sin is to permit the lordship of Christ ~ Sunday Adelaja
Destruction quotes by Sunday Adelaja
I love studying Ancient History and seeing how empires rise and fall, sowing the seeds of their own destruction. ~ Martin Scorsese
Destruction quotes by Martin Scorsese
The United States found dozens of billions of dollars for military action in Iraq, so it should certainly be able to find a few billions of dollars to get rid of weapons of mass destruction. I'll assume that since the most powerful nation - the United States - has promised to pay for much of this, then its word will be kept. If it isn't, I don't think we can have a true partnership. ~ Mikhail Gorbachev
Destruction quotes by Mikhail Gorbachev
Words are the true weapons of mass destruction ~ Steve Berry
Destruction quotes by Steve Berry
If the U.S. foreign policy results in massive death and destruction abroad, they cannot feign innocence when some of that destruction is returned. On 9/11/2001, Americans noticed that payback can be a real motherfucker. ~ Ward Churchill
Destruction quotes by Ward Churchill
An off-screen persona of Globally Conscious Earth Mother and an aggressive on-screen embodiment of Kali, Goddess of Destruction. ~ Angelina Jolie
Destruction quotes by Angelina Jolie
It's funny. From up here, the destruction seems to fade. Almost as if like people, in time, even the world can heal itself. ~ Eloise Dyson
Destruction quotes by Eloise Dyson
An opinion can be argued with; a conviction is best shot. The logical end of a war of creeds is the final destruction of one, and Salammbo is the classical text-book instance. ~ T.E. Lawrence
Destruction quotes by T.E. Lawrence
The impressionistic method leads into a complete splitting and dissolution of all areas involved in the composition, and color is used to create an overall effect of light. The color is, through such a shading down from the highest light in the deepest shadows, sacrified an degraded to a (black-and-white) function. This leads to the destructions of the color as color. ~ Hans Hofmann
Destruction quotes by Hans Hofmann
Everything in Nature called destruction must be creation-a change from beauty to beauty. ~ John Muir
Destruction quotes by John Muir
I certainly have many enemies, and this is what will be my destruction if I am destroyed; of that I am certain; not Meletus, nor yet Anytus, but the envy and detraction of the world, which has been the death of many good men, and will probably be the death of many more; there is no danger of my being the last of them. ~ Plato
Destruction quotes by Plato
A millenarian fire burned in Oppenheimer's spirit, fueled by his pride as a world-historical individual, by his fear that the natural force he loosed upon the world would escape all human control, and by a pure-hearted longing to ensure that his discovery of the devastation latent in the elemental substance of the world would serve concord rather than the ultimate discord, perpetual peace rather than permanent self-destruction. ~ Algis Valiunas
Destruction quotes by Algis Valiunas
The distance between a man and pride is the distance between himself and destruction. ~ Matshona Dhliwayo
Destruction quotes by Matshona Dhliwayo

Wherever religious liberty exists, it will, first or last, bring in and establish political liberty. ~ Joseph Story
