As he left, he saw the streets were just as deserted and quiet as before, but now he knew it was an illusion. There were ninjas, darker than a starless night, watching their territory and his every move from the rooftops high above. ~ Anam Iqbal
Iqbal quotes by Anam Iqbal
Why should I ask the wise men: Whence is my beginning? I am busy with the thought: Where will be my end? ~ Muhammad Iqbal
Iqbal quotes by Muhammad Iqbal
A community receives light from its history, it becomes aware of itself by remembrance of its history. ~ Muhammad Iqbal
Iqbal quotes by Muhammad Iqbal
He philosophy of Islam will be shown in terms of the modern philosophy, and if there are imperfections in the old ideas then they shall be removed. My task is merely constructive, and in this construction I shall take into consideration the best traditions of Islamic philosophy. ~ Muhammad Iqbal
Iqbal quotes by Muhammad Iqbal
Top-down approaches do not work. The bottleneck is at the top of the bottle. ~ Iqbal Quadir
Iqbal quotes by Iqbal Quadir
The poet's nature is all searching, creator and nourisher of desire; the poet is like the heart in a people's breast, a people without a poet is a mere heap of clay. If the purpose of poetry is the fashioning of men, poetry is likewise the heir of prophecy. ~ Muhammad Iqbal
Iqbal quotes by Muhammad Iqbal
The thought of a limit to perceptual space and time staggers the mind. ~ Muhammad Iqbal
Iqbal quotes by Muhammad Iqbal
The Pakistani film International Gorillay (International guerillas), produced by Sajjad Gul, told the story of a group of local heroes - of the type that would, in the language of a later age, come to be known as jihadis, or terrorists - who vowed to find and kill an author called "Salman Rushdie" . The quest for "Rushdie" formed the main action of the film and "his" death was the film's version of happy ending.

"Rushdie" himself was depicted as a drunk, constantly swigging from a bottle, and a sadist. He lived in what looked very like a palace on what looked very like an island in the Philippines (clearly all novelists had second homes of this kind), being protected by what looked very like the Israeli Army (this presumably being a service offered by Israel to all novelists), and he was plotting the overthrow of Pakistan by the fiendish means of opening chains of discotheques and gambling dens across that pure and virtuous land, a perfidious notion for which, as the British Muslim "leader" Iqbal Sacranie might have said, death was too light a punishment. "Rushdie" was dressed exclusively in a series of hideously coloured safari suits - vermilion safari suits, aubergine safari suits, cerise safari suits - and the camera, whenever it fell upon the figure of this vile personage, invariably started at his feet and then panned [sic] with slow menace up to his face. So the safari suits got a lot of screen time, and when he saw a videotape of the film the fashion insult ~ Salman Rushdie
Iqbal quotes by Salman Rushdie
A lot of technologies in the world were unusual in the beginning, and became standard. That's the beauty of bottom-up entrepreneurship and innovations. ~ Iqbal Quadir
Iqbal quotes by Iqbal Quadir
When I was older, I found Iqbal's work hugely inspirational. He argued against an unquestioning acceptance of Western democracy as the self-governing model, and instead suggested that by following the rules of Islam a society would tend naturally towards social justice, tolerance, peace and equality. Iqbal's interpretation of Islam differs very widely from the narrow meaning that is sometimes given to it. For Iqbal, Islam is not just the name for certain beliefs and forms of worship. The difference between a Muslim and a non-Muslim is not merely a theological one - it is a difference of a fundamental attitude towards life. ~ Imran Khan
Iqbal quotes by Imran Khan

Iqbal quotes by Yeshim Iqbal
What is the character and general structure of the universe in which we live? Is there a permanent element in the constitution of this universe? How are we related to it? What place do we occupy in it, and what is the kind of conduct that befits the place we occupy? These questions are common to religion, philosophy, and higher poetry ~ Muhammad Iqbal
Iqbal quotes by Muhammad Iqbal
Become nothing...
hurry .... dissolve ...
end the fire ...
Drown in the ocean of love...
Disintegrate...
Become like water
No even lighter
Ethereal Vapour
Bellow across the hearts
Embalm spirits
Create Bliss. ~ Gabriel Iqbal
Iqbal quotes by Gabriel Iqbal
It never bored them to hear words, words; they breathed them with the cool night air, never stopping to analyse; the name of the poet, Hafiz, Hali, Iqbal, was sufficient guarantee. India - a hundred Indias - whispered outside beneath the indifferent moon, but for the time India seemed one and their own, and they regained their departed greatness by hearing its departure lamented, they felt young again because reminded that youth must fly. ~ E. M. Forster
Iqbal quotes by E. M. Forster
If faith is lost, there is no security and there is no life for him who does not adhere to religion. ~ Muhammad Iqbal
Iqbal quotes by Muhammad Iqbal
Plants and minerals are bound to predestination. The faithful is only bound to the Divine orders. ~ Muhammad Iqbal
Iqbal quotes by Muhammad Iqbal
Khird-Mandon Se Kya Puchon Ke Meri Ibtida Kya Hai
Ke Main Iss Fikar Mein Rehta Hun, Meri Intiha Kya Hai

What should I ask the sages about my origin:
I am always wanting to know my goal. ~ Muhammad Iqbal, Sir
Iqbal quotes by Muhammad Iqbal, Sir
You are
What you are looking for
In fragmented mirrors
Stop looking
Be Still
End the mind-noise
Silence Now
Eyes shut
Heart wide-open
And then you see
Everything! ~ Gabriel Iqbal
Iqbal quotes by Gabriel Iqbal
Muhammad Iqbal, who had spent three rewarding years as a student in Europe in the first decade of the twentieth century, now wrote of it in the satirical tradition of the Illahabadi:
The West develops wonderful new skills
In this as in so many other fields
Its submarines are crocodiles
Its bombers rain destruction from the skies
Its gases so obscure the sky
They blind the sun's world-seeing eye
Dispatch this old fool to the West
To learn the art of killing fast- and best
On his previous trips to the West, Liang, like Tagore and Iqbal, had been a qualified admirer. During his longest sojourn there, he began to develop grave doubts about the civilization that had so blithely thrown away the fruits of progress and rationalism and sunk into barbarism. The 'materialist' West had managed to subdue nature through science and technology and created a Darwinian universe of conflict between individuals, classes and nations. But to what effect? Its materialistic people, constantly desiring ever-new things and constantly being frustrated, were worn out by war, were afflicted with insecurity, and were as far from happiness as ever. ~ Pankaj Mishra
Iqbal quotes by Pankaj Mishra
Who are we?
What are we?
Why are we?
What is going to become of us?
We may never know
But if you find love,
you don't need answers any more
Love dissolves questions. ~ Gabriel Iqbal
Iqbal quotes by Gabriel Iqbal
From your past emerges the present, and from the present is born your future. ~ Muhammad Iqbal
Iqbal quotes by Muhammad Iqbal
He darted for her; his blade wielded smooth and steady in front of him. She didn't hold back either; when they joined, their weapons clanked and sparked with an icy rage. They danced around one another; their feet light yet balanced, their arms twisting and turning with every thundering blow they made. ~ Anam Iqbal
Iqbal quotes by Anam Iqbal
Ilm Ne Mujh Se Kaha Ishq Hai Diwana-Pan
Ishq Ne Mujh Se Kaha Ilm Hai Takhmeen-o-Zan

Knowledge said to me, Love is madness;
Love said to me, Knowledge is calculation

Band-e-Takhmeen-o-Zan! Kirm-e-Kitabi Na Ban
Ishq Sarapa Huzoor, Ilm Sarapa Hijab

O slave of calculation, do not be a bookworm!
Love is Presence entire, Knowledge nothing but a Veil. ~ Muhammad Iqbal
Iqbal quotes by Muhammad Iqbal
The scientific observer of Nature is a kind of mystic seeker in the act of prayer. ~ Muhammad Iqbal
Iqbal quotes by Muhammad Iqbal
I, therefore, demand the formation of a consolidated Muslim State in the best interest of India and Islam. ~ Muhammad Iqbal
Iqbal quotes by Muhammad Iqbal
It cannot be denied that Islam, regarded as an ethical ideal plus a certain kind of polity - by which expression I mean a social structure regulated by a legal system and animated by a specific ethical ideal - has been the chief formative factor in the life-history of the Muslims of India. It has furnished those basic emotions and loyalties which gradually unify scattered individuals and groups, and finally transform them into a well-defined people, possessing a moral consciousness of their own. ~ Muhammad Iqbal
Iqbal quotes by Muhammad Iqbal
It turned out he wasn't just a poet. He was also a politician, a teacher, a lawyer, a scholar, and a knight. I thought one dream was enough for a person, but reading his story, I learned some people could hold on to many different dreams and see them all come true. ~ Aisha Saeed
Iqbal quotes by Aisha Saeed
This was different, spontaneous, unrestricted. This was what dancing was supposed to feel like - like freedom. ~ Anam Iqbal
Iqbal quotes by Anam Iqbal
Life is beautiful
only if the eyes of the heart are beautiful
It looks almost catastrophic via the mind
Measuring, quibbling and boasting
Let the heart control the mind
and we are off to the next Galaxy
both inward and outward. ~ Gabriel Iqbal
Iqbal quotes by Gabriel Iqbal
Vision without power does bring moral elevation but cannot give a lasting culture. ~ Muhammad Iqbal
Iqbal quotes by Muhammad Iqbal
Rich countries have been sending aid to poor countries for the last 60 years. And, by and large, this has failed. ~ Iqbal Quadir
Iqbal quotes by Iqbal Quadir
Inside my heart there is
A temple, a synagogue,
a church, a mosque,
A monastery, a fish market
A serene lake, a tempestuous sea
Agreements and disagreements
Glory and failure
A big bang at dawn and
a little bang at dusk
All the cries, aspirations and
silent prayers
Yearning and seeking
Everything disintegrates
and dissolves
In a tempestuous ocean
Finally unifies
Collapses on one altar
In one Breath
In God ~ Gabriel Iqbal
Iqbal quotes by Gabriel Iqbal
Rise above sectional interests and private ambitions ... Pass from matter to spirit. Matter is diversity; spirit is light, life and unity. ~ Muhammad Iqbal
Iqbal quotes by Muhammad Iqbal
Pakistan is heir to an intellectual tradition of which the illustrious exponent was the poet and philosopher Mohammad Iqbal. He saw the future course for Islamic societies in a synthesis between adherence to the faith and adjustment to the modern age. ~ Benazir Bhutto
Iqbal quotes by Benazir Bhutto
People who have no hold over their process of thinking ara likely to be ruined by liberty of thought. ~ Muhammad Iqbal
Iqbal quotes by Muhammad Iqbal
We should encourage governments to be sustained by citizens' taxes - that is, democracies. Democracies will be enduring allies of America. ~ Iqbal Quadir
Iqbal quotes by Iqbal Quadir
I was the happiest man in the world, happier than Bill Gates ~ Tamim Iqbal
Iqbal quotes by Tamim Iqbal
Physiologically less violent and psychologically more suitable to a concrete type of mind. ~ Muhammad Iqbal
Iqbal quotes by Muhammad Iqbal
A great thinker does not necessarily have to discover a master idea but has to rediscover and to affirm a true but forgotten, ignored or misunderstood master idea and interpret it in all the diverse aspects of thought not previously done, in a powerful and consistent way, despite surrounding ignorance and opposition. This criterion we think would include all prophets and their true followers among the Muslim scholars. He is both a great and original thinker who brings new meanings and interpretations to old ideas, thereby providing both continuity and originality to the important intellectual and cultural problems of his time and through it, of mankind. Thus the brilliant interpretations of scholars and sages like al-Ghazali and Mulla Sadra then, and Iqbal and al-Attas now, deserve to be recognized and acknowledged as manifesting certain qualities of greatness and originality. ~ Wan Mohd Nor Wan Daud
Iqbal quotes by Wan Mohd Nor Wan Daud
We have strayed away from God, and He is in quest of us; Like us, He is humble and is a prisoner of desire: He is hidden in every atom, and yet is a stranger to us: He is revealed in the moonlight, and in the embrace of houses. ~ Muhammad Iqbal
Iqbal quotes by Muhammad Iqbal
Let this be our beautiful departure from stagnation; let our minds come alive; enter another dimension; go beyond the stars eagerly struggling to find that ... which our naked eyes did not know existed; rise like a falcon born to soar and not be alone but be present amongst others. ~ Muhammad Iqbal
Iqbal quotes by Muhammad Iqbal
The Ego is partly free. partly determined, and reaches fuller freedom by approaching the Individual who is most free: God. ~ Muhammad Iqbal
Iqbal quotes by Muhammad Iqbal
When leaders are no longer beholden to the people who elected them, corruption results and the recruitment of extremists becomes easier. ~ Iqbal Quadir
Iqbal quotes by Iqbal Quadir
I am but as the spark that gleams for a moment,
His burning candle consumed me - the moth;
His wine overwhelmed my goblet,
The master of Rum transmuted my earth to gold
And set my ashes aflame. ~ Muhammad Iqbal
Iqbal quotes by Muhammad Iqbal
Who am I? Who art Thou? Where is the world? ~ Muhammad Iqbal
Iqbal quotes by Muhammad Iqbal
Reh Gyi Rasm-e-Azan, Rooh-e-Bilali Na Rahi
Falsafa Reh Gya, Talqeen-e-Ghazali Na Rahi
Azan yet sounds, but never now Like Bilal's, soulfully;
Philosophy, conviction-less, Now mourns its Ghazzali ~ Muhammad Iqbal
Iqbal quotes by Muhammad Iqbal
The best way poor people can come out of their poverty is to get on the global highway, not on some dirt side road. ~ Iqbal Quadir
Iqbal quotes by Iqbal Quadir
Why hast thou made me born in this country, The inhabitant of which is satisfied with being a slave? ~ Muhammad Iqbal
Iqbal quotes by Muhammad Iqbal
The Muslim community should not be treated as a problematic community, but treated as a community that is willing to play its role in the mainstream. ~ Iqbal Sacranie
Iqbal quotes by Iqbal Sacranie
13.5 Mrs. Wolfe asks whether Mr. Iqbal expects her Susan to undertake compulsory headstands.
13.6 Mr. Iqbal infers that, considering Susan's academic performance and weight problems, a headstand regime might be desirable. ~ Zadie Smith
Iqbal quotes by Zadie Smith
The great point in Christianity is the search for an independent content for spiritual life which, according to the insights of its founder, could be elevated, not by the forces of a world external to the soul of man, but by the revelation of a new world within his soul. Islam fully agrees with this insight and supplements it by the further insight that the illumination of the new world thus revealed is not something foreign to the world of matter but permeates it through and through.
Thus the affirmation of spirit sought by Christianity would come not by the renunciation of external forces which are already permeated by the illumination of spirit, but by a proper adjustment of man's relation to these forces in view of the light received from the world within. ~ Muhammad Iqbal
Iqbal quotes by Muhammad Iqbal
Please give me a death goal; I want to prove my credibility ~ Rana Zahid Iqbal
Iqbal quotes by Rana Zahid Iqbal
The idea that thought is essentially finite, and for this reason unable to capture the Infinite, is based on a mistaken notion of the movement of thought in knowledge. It is the inadequacy of the logical understanding which finds a multiplicity of mutually repellent individualities with no prospect of their ultimate reduction to a unity that makes us sceptical about the conclusiveness of thought. In fact, the logical understanding is incapable of seeing this multiplicity as a coherent universe. Its only method is generalization based on resemblances, but its generalizations are only fictitious unities which do not affect the reality of concrete things. In its deeper movement, however, thought is capable of reaching an immanent Infinite in whose self-unfolding movement the various finite concepts are merely moments. In its essential nature, then, thought is not static; it is dynamic and unfolds its internal infinitude in time like the seed which, from the very beginning, carries within itself the organic unity of the tree as a present fact. ~ Muhammad Iqbal
Iqbal quotes by Muhammad Iqbal
Unbeliever is he who follows predestination even if he be Muslim, Faithful is he, if he himself is the Divine Destiny. ~ Muhammad Iqbal
Iqbal quotes by Muhammad Iqbal
You that performs all day
When will you remove that mask. ~ Gabriel Iqbal
Iqbal quotes by Gabriel Iqbal
An obstacle to the learning is to overlook the students mental level of learning by teachers. Good teachers have a power to make difference between the level of individuals rather than comparing with themselves. ~ Shahid Iqbal
Iqbal quotes by Shahid Iqbal
But the universe, as a collection of finite things, presents itself as a kind of island situated in a pure vacuity to which time, regarded as a series of mutually exclusive moments, is nothing and does nothing. ~ Muhammad Iqbal
Iqbal quotes by Muhammad Iqbal
Rather than starting a new inferno in Iraq, our energies would have been better spent in extinguishing the existing fire in Palestine. ~ Iqbal Sacranie
Iqbal quotes by Iqbal Sacranie
He is no mean poet, and his verse can rouse or persuade even if his logic fail to convince. His message is not for the Mohammedans of India alone, but for Moslems everywhere: accordingly he writes in Persian instead of Hindustani - a happy choice, for amongst educated Moslems there are many familiar with Persian literature, while the Persian language is singularly well adapted to express philosophical ideas in a style at once elevated and charming. ~ Muhammad Iqbal
Iqbal quotes by Muhammad Iqbal
The ultimate aim of the ego is not to see something, but to be something. ~ Muhammad Iqbal
Iqbal quotes by Muhammad Iqbal
Just as entrepreneurs developed America, they can develop other countries, too. ~ Iqbal Quadir
Iqbal quotes by Iqbal Quadir
Therefore, all the scientific data suggests that what we perceive has an effect on matter as we view it. We are co-creating this universe as participators. So if we are looking at the smallest sub-atomic particles and/or the edge of the universe we bring about the act of creation just by observing hence we will never find the smallest subatomic particles or the edge of the universe as we are co-creating reality. Hence the dilemma, if there is an edge of the universe, what is beyond the edge or if we have found the smallest sub-atomic particle what is it further made up of. I can sum up my research by stating that the very act of observation creates reality. ~ Gabriel Iqbal
Iqbal quotes by Gabriel Iqbal
The highest stage of Man's ethical progress is reached when he becomes absolutely free from fear and grief. ~ Muhammad Iqbal
Iqbal quotes by Muhammad Iqbal
Democracy is a system where people are counted not weighed. ~ Muhammad Iqbal

Iqbal quotes by Muhammad Iqbal
Poor countries are poor because they are wasting their resources. ~ Iqbal Quadir
Iqbal quotes by Iqbal Quadir
Since love first made the breast an instrument
Of fierce lamenting, by its flame my heart
Was molten to a mirror, like a rose
I pluck my breast apart, that I may hang
This mirror in your sight
Gaze you therein ~ Muhammad Iqbal
Iqbal quotes by Muhammad Iqbal

Cosmos
Exists
Inside You
Seek it not elsewhere. ~ Gabriel Iqbal

Iqbal quotes by Muhammad Iqbal
The Westerners have lost the vision of heaven, they go hunting for the pure spirit in the belly. The pure soul takes not color and scent from the body, and Communism has nothing to do save with the body. ~ Muhammad Iqbal
Iqbal quotes by Muhammad Iqbal
The truth is that the religious and the scientific processes, though involving different methods, are identical in their final aim. Both aim at reaching the most real. ~ Muhammad Iqbal
Iqbal quotes by Muhammad Iqbal
When you are all wasted
by the battles of life
And finally,
given up on ideologies
An embalming hand comes out of Grace
Race towards it
Hold it
Embrace it
Cut off your garments
Expose your wounds
Bare your heart
Heal
Forget
Live ~ Gabriel Iqbal
Iqbal quotes by Gabriel Iqbal
It is the lot of man to share in the deeper aspirations of the universe around him and to share his own destiny as well as that of the universe, now by adjusting himself to its forces, now by putting the whole of his energy to his own ends and purposes. ~ Muhammad Iqbal

Air, water, earth, fire
Are just energy
Just like your body is
But Heart Intelligence is something else
Be brave and journey inward to find out. ~ Gabriel Iqbal
Iqbal quotes by Gabriel Iqbal
Death was a friend to her; she was unafraid of it: bringing to to others, meeting it herself. And yet, she'd flinched from it today... What was it about that man that she just couldn't let go? Couldn't conquer the part of her heart that had loved him? ~ Anam Iqbal
Iqbal quotes by Anam Iqbal
Iqbal, that great poet, was so right. The moment you recognize what is beautiful in this world, you stop being a slave. To hell with the Naxals and their guns shipped from China. If you taught every poor boy how to paint, that would be the end of the rich in India. ~ Aravind Adiga
