Dedicated to book lovers and book bloggers everywhere, those large and small. ~ Jennifer L. Armentrout
Book Bloggers quotes by Jennifer L. Armentrout
It's through traveling you make the great journey into yourself, and it's the clarity of extremes in traveling that forces you to meet yourself like you've never met yourself before. ~ Carew Papritz
Book Bloggers quotes by Carew Papritz
I wanted to savor every tidbit with Rafael. It was like a good book, one I'd been waiting for and anticipating, and once I'd gotten it in my hands, I couldn't bear to read one single page because that would be one fewer page I would get to read. ~ Brodi Ashton
Book Bloggers quotes by Brodi Ashton
Before we went to bed, Jake and Otto were called up to the living-room for prayers. Grandfather put on silver-rimmed spectacles and read several Psalms. His voice was so sympathetic and he read so interestingly that I wished he had chosen one of my favourite chapters in the Book of Kings. I was awed by his intonation of the word 'Selah.' 'He shall choose our inheritance for us, the excellency of Jacob whom He loved. Selah.' I had no idea what the word meant; perhaps he had not. But, as he uttered it, it became oracular, the most sacred of words. ~ Willa Cather
Book Bloggers quotes by Willa Cather
To say it once more: today I find it an impossible book: I consider it badly written, ponderous, embarrassing, image-mad and image-confused, sentimental, in places saccharine to the point of effeminacy, uneven in tempo, without the will to logical cleanliness, very convinced and therefore disdainful of proof, mistrustful even of the propriety of proof, a book for initiates, "music" for those dedicated to music, those who are closely related to begin with on the basis of common and rare aesthetic experiences, "music" meant as a sign of recognition for close relatives in artibus - an arrogant and rhapsodic book that sought to exclude right from the beginning the profanum vulgus of "the educated" even more than "the mass" or "folk. ~ Friedrich Nietzsche
Book Bloggers quotes by Friedrich Nietzsche
An excellent indie horror book with a wholly original premise. ~ Mike Carey
Book Bloggers quotes by Mike Carey
I always say your body is the temple of your spirit, why not decorate it? My kids say, no, no, your body is the temple of your spirit, keep it clean. I'm covered in tattoos and I get a tattoo every time I write a book. I get the tattoo from the book. ~ Bill Ayers
Book Bloggers quotes by Bill Ayers
Goodbye Brad, missed you at the Tour and Vuelta. NOT! I so nailed you with my book. I killed your last chances to ever ride a grand tour. Watching you beg in the press was fun, it really was. ~ Chris Froome
Book Bloggers quotes by Chris Froome
Frog said, 'I wrote 'Dear Toad, I am glad that you are my best friend. Your best friend, Frog.' 'Oh,' said Toad, 'that makes a very good letter.'Then Frog and Toad went out onto the front porch to wait for the mail. They sat there, feeling happy together. ~ Arnold Lobel
Book Bloggers quotes by Arnold Lobel
This book is written for those who want more Jesus. It is for those who are bored with what American Christianity offers. It is for those who don't want to plateau, those who would rather die before their convictions do. ~ Francis Chan
Book Bloggers quotes by Francis Chan
They say there is no 'free lunch' in life. But there are free books! I still can't believe I can go to my local library and get just abut any book in the world - and I don't have to pay a dime!! It's amazing! The library is truly the greatest invention of our civilization. ~ Dan Gutman
Book Bloggers quotes by Dan Gutman
I'm a big Michael Lewis fan. That said, my favorite Lewis book was 'The Blind Side.' ~ Bart Chilton
Book Bloggers quotes by Bart Chilton
The critic's aim should be to interpret the work they are writing about and help readers appreciate it, by defining and analysing those qualities that make it precious and by indicating the angle of visions from which its beauties are visible. But many critics do not realize their function. They aim not to appreciate, but to judge; they seek first to draw lines about literature and then bully readers into accepting these laws. ~ David Cecil
Book Bloggers quotes by David Cecil
I'm reading a book about Romaine Brooks, a wonderful painter from early in the last century. ~ Lawrence Ferlinghetti
Book Bloggers quotes by Lawrence Ferlinghetti
To retire by the age of 35 was my goal. I wasn't sure how I was going to get there though. I knew I would end up owning my own business someday, so I figured my challenge was to learn as much as anyone about all businesses. I believed that every job I took was really me getting paid to learn about a new industry. I spent as much time as I could, learning and reading everything about business I could get my hands on. I used to go into the library for hours and hours reading business books and magazines. ~ Mark Cuban
Book Bloggers quotes by Mark Cuban
Perhaps I should admit on the title page that this book is "By L. Frank Baum and his correspondents," for I have used many suggestions conveyed to me in letters from children. Once on a time I really imagined myself "an author of fairy tales," but now I am merely an editor or private secretary for a host of youngsters whose ideas I am requested to weave into the thread of my stories...My, what imaginations these children have developed! Sometimes I am fairly astounded by their daring an genius. There will be no lack of fairy-tale authors in the future, I am sure. My readers have told me what to do with Dorothy, and Aunt Em and Uncle Henry, and I have obeyed their mandates. They have also given me a variety of subjects to write about in the future: enough, in fact, to keep me busy for some time. I am very proud of this alliance. Children love these stories because children have helped to create them. My readers know what they want and realize I try to please them. The result is satisfactory to the publishers, to me, and (I am quite sure) to the children. I hope, my dears, it will be a long time before we are obliged to dissolve partnership. ~ L. Frank Baum
Book Bloggers quotes by L. Frank Baum
I'm not being disrespectful of the medium; it's just not as important as the work that I actually do [books]. ~ Alice Walker
Book Bloggers quotes by Alice Walker
Horses in the Book of Mormon would be another. You have relatively few mentions of horses, but there are some, and we don't know exactly how they were used; they don't seem to be all that common. Were they horses as we understood them, [or] does the term describe some other animal? Languages don't always and cultures don't always classify things the way we would expect. We have what we call common-sense ways of doing it. They're not common sense; they're just ours. But again, we don't have a strong case there. We're just problem solving there. ~ Daniel C. Peterson
Book Bloggers quotes by Daniel C. Peterson
Reader, I cannot promise you will be less afraid when you finish this book, but I hope you will feel more able to name what lives inside you. ~ Olivia Gatwood
Book Bloggers quotes by Olivia Gatwood
I'm trying to finish my book on the Kennedy assassination. ~ Vincent Bugliosi
Book Bloggers quotes by Vincent Bugliosi
I started to book good television jobs in 2010. I started to get really close to exceptional jobs in 2011, and then I got 'Arrow' in 2012. I know how lucky I am because just getting the lead in a pilot doesn't guarantee that that pilot is going to turn into something great. ~ Stephen Amell
Book Bloggers quotes by Stephen Amell
A book may be regarded as irrelevant until it's relevance, importance and purpose is discovered through reading ~ Ernest Agyemang Yeboah
Book Bloggers quotes by Ernest Agyemang Yeboah
Apparently zombie killing wears him out. I slip beneath my flannel covers and fire up my e-reader. I always said I wouldn't get one; that I would always continue the timeless tradition of holding a physical book within my hands, but I do have to ~ Lacey Black
Book Bloggers quotes by Lacey Black
I must confess that in all the times I read Madame Bovary, I never noticed the heroine's rainbow eyes. Should I have? Would you? Was I perhaps too busy noticing things that Dr Starkie was missing (though what they might have been I can't for the moment think)? Put it another way: is there a perfect reader somewhere, a total reader? Does Dr Starkie's reading of Madame Bovary contain all the responses which I have when I read the book, and then add a whole lot more, so that my reading is in a way pointless? Well, I hope not. My reading might be pointless in terms of the history of literary criticism; but it's not pointless in terms of pleasure. I can't prove that lay readers enjoy books more than professional critics; but I can tell you one advantage we have over them. We can forget. Dr Starkie and her kind are cursed with memory: the books they teach and write about can never fade from their brains. They become family. Perhaps this is why some critics develop a faintly patronising tone towards their subjects. They act as if Flaubert, or Milton, or Wordsworth were some tedious old aunt in a rocking chair, who smelt of stale powder, was only interested in the past, and hadn't said anything new for years. Of course, it's her house, and everybody's living in it rent free; but even so, surely it is, well, you know…time?
Whereas the common but passionate reader is allowed to forget; he can go away, be unfaithful with other writers, come back and be entranced again. Domesticity ~ Julian Barnes
Book Bloggers quotes by Julian Barnes
I love memoirs and biographies, learning about other people's lives. Two of the ones that I loved so much were actually edited by the same person who edited my book, too. I loved 'Angela's Ashes.' I loved 'Glass Castle' so much. ~ Isabel Gillies
Book Bloggers quotes by Isabel Gillies
I enjoy about 1 out of 100 movies, it's about the same proportion to books published that I care to read. ~ Jim Harrison
Book Bloggers quotes by Jim Harrison
The easiest way to write a book is to use the Table of Contents as an outline. People get stuck when they think in terms of writing a book. Do not let this delay you. There are a lot of book outline writing software's available today, but I personally believe they have the potential to cause more distraction then assistance.
The best possible outlines have come from pure "flow". I advise my clients to do a simple process of setting the timer for 2 minutes and just writing. I ask that they write everything that pops into their heads without thought or judgment on the subject. The questions I ask are: What is most important to you? What do you know a lot about? Tell me 12 things that fall under that subject that are valuable to know. Under each of the 12 things, give me 3 things that are a "must" in that category. Using index cards to write your answers on is a useful way to arrange chapters and sections of your book. Believe it or not, my students have come up with a Table of Contents/outline in less than 10 minutes using this method. Our greatest block is that we tend to over think things too much. We over analyze and what happens is that we get into analysis paralysis. Our creativity and 'flow' freezes up and all spontaneity and creativity just exits out of the thought process. When we stall the creative flow by trying to be correct, proper and appropriate, we end up talking ourselves out of what we intuitively know that we know and into a space of doubt, or what we th ~ Kytka Hilmar-Jezek
Book Bloggers quotes by Kytka Hilmar-Jezek
Photography is like an open book to the world. ~ Lisa Jones
Book Bloggers quotes by Lisa Jones
In this book it is spoken of the Sephiroth and the Paths; of Spirits and Conjurations; of Gods, Spheres, Planes, and many other things which may or may not exist. It is immaterial whether these exist or not. By doing certain things certain results will follow; students are most earnestly warned against attributing objective reality or philosophic validity to any of them. ~ Aleister Crowley
Book Bloggers quotes by Aleister Crowley
Be knowledgeable in your niche, provide some information free of charge, and share other trustworthy people's free resources whenever possible ... ~ Heather Hart
Book Bloggers quotes by Heather Hart
Too often, teachers assume that they are introducing a book or concept to students for the first time. In fact, many units are repeated over the course of a student's K-12 experience. ~ Heidi Hayes Jacobs
Book Bloggers quotes by Heidi Hayes Jacobs
I come out of journalism, and then book writing. There, it's just you and your editor and maybe a copy desk, looking over your editor's shoulder, and that's the story. It's right there. I can show it to you because it's on paper. ~ Wendell Pierce
Book Bloggers quotes by Wendell Pierce
The average page of a book weighs about 0.035 of an ounce, but getting people to keep turning them takes enormous effort. ~ Dave Preston
Book Bloggers quotes by Dave Preston
In one of the Welsh counties is a small village called A
. It is somewhat removed from the high road, and is, therefore, but little known to those luxurious amateurs of the picturesque, who view nature through the windows of a carriage and four. ~ Edward Bulwer-Lytton, 1st Baron Lytton
Book Bloggers quotes by Edward Bulwer-Lytton, 1st Baron Lytton
My theory about writing is that one should write books you'd like to read, but no one else has written yet. So, as long as I stick with that, I'm entertaining myself, and then hopefully my readers as well. I hope to god I realize that I'm repeating myself, if I ever do. But if I don't, I'm sure my readers will let me know. ~ Charles De Lint
Book Bloggers quotes by Charles De Lint
My company, Against All Odds Productions, has done print on demand; we were the first to do a book with a CD-ROM in the early 1990s. We do custom covers. It's always fun to do something new. ~ Rick Smolan
Book Bloggers quotes by Rick Smolan
If you want to be a writer, you should go into the largest library you can find and stand there contemplating the books that have been written. Then you should ask yourself, 'Do I really have anything to add?' If you have the arrogance or the humility to say yes, you will know you have the vocation. ~ Margaret Atwood
Book Bloggers quotes by Margaret Atwood
But take heart: For every phalanx of nerds who die there are always a few who succeed. Not long after that horrific murder, a whole pack of revolutionary nerds ran aground on a sandbar on the southeast coast of Cuba. Yes, it was Fidel and Revolutionary Crew, back for a rematch against Batista. Of the eight-two revolutionaries who splashed ashore, only twenty-two survived to celebrate the New Year, including one book-loving argentino. A bloodbath, with Batista's forces executing even those who surrendered. But these twenty-two, it would prove, were enough. ~ Junot Diaz
Book Bloggers quotes by Junot Diaz
As an author, I don't really think too much about being a celebrity. It's not like being a movie star or a TV star. It's not as if people recognize me when I walk down the street. That hardly ever happens, and it's just as well. But it is great when people know my books, when I walk through an airport and see them in the bookstore, or when I see someone reading a book on a plane or on a train, and it's something I've written. That's a wonderful feeling. ~ Rick Riordan
Book Bloggers quotes by Rick Riordan
One day or another, it is true, dust, supposing it persists, will probably begin to gain the upper hand over domestics, invading the immense ruins of abandoned buildings, deserted dockyards; and, at that distant epoch, nothing will remain to ward off night-terrors, for lack of which we have become such great book-keepers... ~ Georges Bataille
Book Bloggers quotes by Georges Bataille
I love books, and all the best ones are people analysing their own emotions. You can learn from that. ~ John Lydon
Book Bloggers quotes by John Lydon
I was a bookworm. Every week I'd go to the library and get seven books. Remember libraries? I wonder if people still go. And I learned about everything from the library. I came from a Scottish family. Old school. ~ Colin Mochrie
Book Bloggers quotes by Colin Mochrie
The one thing I regret is that I will never have time to read all the books I want to read. ~ Francoise Sagan
Book Bloggers quotes by Francoise Sagan
It's easier to revise lousy writing than to revise a blank sheet of paper. ~ S.A. Bodeen
Book Bloggers quotes by S.A. Bodeen
Let's not play games, Mr. Cratchett," I replied. "I wanted to let you know that I'll be coming in for an appointment with Mr. Raisin on Tuesday morning at eleven o'clock. I shall need about an hour and would prefer it if we were not disturbed during that time. I hope that he will be free at that hour but just so you both know, if he is not, then I am perfectly willing to sit in your office until he is free. I shall bring a book with me to pass the time. I shall bring two, if need be. I shall bring the complete works of Shakespeare if he insists on keeping me waiting interminably and those plays will get me through the long hours. But I will not leave until I have seen him, are we quite clear on that? Now, I wish you a very pleasant Sunday, Mr. Cratchett. Enjoy your lunch, won't you? Your breath smells of whisky. ~ John Boyne
