Funny things, words. Big words, small words; words that are bigger on the inside and packed tight with feeling. They can make us fall in love, and they can break our hearts and we're powerless against them. ~ Maggie Harcourt
Big Words quotes by Maggie Harcourt
Utilize A noxious puff-word. Since it does nothing that good old use doesn't do, its extra letters and syllables don't make a writer seem smarter; rather, using utilize makes you seem either like a pompous twit or like someone so insecure that she'll use pointlessly big words in an attempt to look sophisticated. The same is true for the noun utilization, for vehicle as used for car, for residence as used for house, for presently, at present, at this time, and at the present time as used for now, and so on. What's worth remembering about puff-words is something that good writing teachers spend a lot of time drumming into undergrads: "formal writing" does not mean gratuitously fancy writing; it means clean, clear, maximally considerate writing. ~ David Foster Wallace
Big Words quotes by David Foster Wallace
The secret to good writing is to use small words for big ideas, not to use big words for small ideas. ~ Oliver Markus Malloy
Big Words quotes by Oliver Markus Malloy
[Mouse is] with us. The dog is a handicap-assist animal."
The kid lifted his eyebrows.
"My mouth is partially paralyzed," I said. "It makes it hard for me to read. He's here to help me with the big words. Tell me if I'm supposed to push or pull on doors, that kind of thing. ~ Jim Butcher
Big Words quotes by Jim Butcher
Blessed with Mom and Dad's remarkable genes, raised on big words and big, iconoclastic attitudes, Larry and I, before entering kindergarten, knew who we were, what we wanted, and how we would get there. ~ Dan Hill
Big Words quotes by Dan Hill
Studies show that the more often families eat together, the less likely kids are to smoke, drink, do drugs, get depressed, develop eating disorders and consider suicide, and the more likely they are to do well in school, delay having sex, eat their vegetables, learn big words and know which fork to use. ~ Nancy Gibbs
Big Words quotes by Nancy Gibbs
Inside I feel much like a 12-year-old or a 17-year-old who knows big words. ~ Tim O'Brien
Big Words quotes by Tim O'Brien
I was wondering where the real party was."
I jumped, sending my pencil in a sharp line across the page. Alex was standing two feet away, one booted foot on my step, hands thrust into the pockets of what looked too much like Emo pants: black and tight.
"Sorry," he said. "I didn't mean to surprise you."
"You didn't surprise me," I gasped, left hand plastered to my chest. "You scared the crap out of me. Who raised you? Wolves?"
He actually grinned. "You've met my parents. What do you think?"
I wasn't going to touch that one. I just shrugged.
"Why aren't you inside?" he asked after a few seconds.
"It was too hot," I lied, closing my sketchbook as casually as I could. "Oppressive. Why aren't you?"
"It was too...God, I don't know. Oppressive's a good word. Some fresh air seemed like a good idea."
I looked past him, relieved not to see anyone else there. "All by yourself? That's...bold."
His brows wen up. For a second, I thought he was going to turn around and leave. Instead,he took his hands out of his pockets and pointed at my step. "Big words for a small person. Can I sit down?"
I swallowed. "Sure."
He did, ending up with his elbows resting on his thighs and his right knee not quite touching mine.
The silence went on just long enough to make in uncomfortable. But I wasn't going to help him with his small talk. I'm not very good at it in the best of circumstances. Sitting almost thigh to thigh with a guy who turned m ~ Melissa Jensen
Big Words quotes by Melissa Jensen
He grabs my arm and pulls me into his embrace. I close my eyes and it's perfection. The kiss is needy and desperate even if it's closed mouth. It's the things we don't say. Words like, I needed you more than anything in the entire world and here you are. It's the sentences neither of us can say. Because neither of us likes grand gestures or big words. But the kiss says it all, the desperate tremble of his fearful lips against mine, speak volumes compared to the words we may or may not be able to say. ~ Tara Brown
Big Words quotes by Tara Brown
I am not impressed by big words,' said my uncle, who was always read enough to bandy 'predestination' and 'infralapsarianism. ~ Peter De Vries
Big Words quotes by Peter De Vries
I had been writing poems and stories since I learned to make letters. I had placed poems in a hardcover anthology at the age of 6. And I knew more big words than anyone else in the 10th grade. ~ Jeff Lindsay
Big Words quotes by Jeff Lindsay
You don't chatter half as much as you used to, Anne, nor use half as many big words. What has come over you?" Anne coloured and laughed a little, as she dropped her book and looked dreamily out of the window, where big fat red buds were bursting out on the creeper in response to the lure of the spring sunshine. "I don't know - I don't want to talk as much," she said, denting her chin thoughtfully with her fore-finger. "It's nicer to think dear, pretty thoughts and keep them in one's heart, like treasures. I don't like to have them laughed at or wondered over. And ~ L.M. Montgomery
Big Words quotes by L.M. Montgomery
I think I have a reputation for being really serious. In interviews I use big words, but I'm just an emotional goofball. I play practical jokes all the time. ~ Darren Hayes
Big Words quotes by Darren Hayes
Watch out for people who try to dazzle you with big words and intellectual double-talk. They want to drag you off into endless arguments that never amount to anything. They spread their ideas through the empty traditions of human beings and the empty superstitions of spirit beings. But that's not the way of Christ. Everything of God gets expressed in him, so you can see and hear him clearly. You don't need a telescope, a microscope, or a horoscope to realize the fullness of Christ, and the emptiness of the universe without him. When you come to him, that fullness comes together for you, too. His power extends over everything. 11-15 Entering into this fullness ~ Eugene H. Peterson
Big Words quotes by Eugene H. Peterson
Philosophy is common sense with big words. ~ James Madison
Big Words quotes by James Madison
I will use big words from time to time, the meanings of which I may only vaguely perceive, in hopes such cupidity will send you scampering to your dictionary: I will call such behavior 'public service'. ~ Harlan Ellison
Big Words quotes by Harlan Ellison
People laugh at me because I use big words. But if you have big ideas, you have to use big words to express them, haven't you? ~ L.M. Montgomery
Big Words quotes by L.M. Montgomery
Big words do not smite like war-clubs, Boastful breath is not a bow-string, Taunts are not so sharp as arrows, Deeds are better things than words are, Actions mightier than boastings. ~ Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
Big Words quotes by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
I write from my knowledge not my lack, from my strength not my weakness. I am not interested if anyone knows whether or not I am familiar with big words, I am interested in trying to render big ideas in a simple way. I am interested in being understood not admired. ~ Lucille Clifton
Big Words quotes by Lucille Clifton
Here Mrs. Wiggins, who had been slowing down gradually, came to a full stop. "Good land, Charles," she said, looking down at the rooster, "I can't remember all those big words. That was a real nice speech you wrote out for me, but I guess you'll just have to let me tell it in my own way." Charles ~ Walter R. Brooks
Big Words quotes by Walter R. Brooks
Sensei?" she asked. "Yes?" "Why are you always leaving about halfway through a workout to give Oberon a snack?" "What? Well, he's a good dog." "Granted, but he's a good dog all the time, and the only times you interrupt what you're doing to give him a snack are during workouts." "I reward him sometimes for using big words. And sometimes I reward him for shutting up." Now would be a good time to shut up. Deal. "So what did he say just now?" Granuaile asked. "I'm sorry, but that's classified information. ~ Kevin Hearne
Big Words quotes by Kevin Hearne
'Broadway' is one of the big American words. It's exciting to be given the chance to rattle around in one of the big words. ~ Lydia Leonard
Big Words quotes by Lydia Leonard
I fear those big words which make us so unhappy. ~ James Joyce
Big Words quotes by James Joyce
I don't use big words to show off because it's ostentatious. ~ Don Roff
Big Words quotes by Don Roff
I've seen middle grade books criticized by adult readers for leaving things for the reader to figure out, for not having perfect happily-ever-after endings. They get knocked for being too depressing, for using too many big words, for featuring parental characters who are too clueless. Girl protagonists are "too angry" or "too self-absorbed." The issues raised are "too heavy," the books "too earnest," "too quiet," "too hard," "too far-reaching," "too strange," and it is all too too much for the reader.

Except it's never the readers themselves saying these things.

Our critical discourse in middle grade is sometimes much more about what the reviewer believes children's books should be rather than about engaging with the book itself and the literature as a whole. When we say a book is "too sad," "too scary," "too complicated;" when we demand that endings are perfectly happy and all tied up; when we demand that the themes not be too weighty or the characters not face too much hardship; we are projecting our own biases onto the book, and using them to prescribe what books for this age range can or cannot do. This is nannying, not literary criticism - and it doesn't give kids much credit. ~ Anne Ursu
Big Words quotes by Anne Ursu
Now one rather annoying thing about scholars is that they are always using Big Words that some of us can't understand ... and one sometimes gets the impression that those intimidating words are there to keep us from understanding. That way, the Scholars can appear Superior, and will not likely be suspected of Not Knowing Something. ~ Benjamin Hoff
Big Words quotes by Benjamin Hoff
A squalid phantasmagoria of breath ~ F Scott Fitzgerald
Big Words quotes by F Scott Fitzgerald
Would you believe I was in the neighborhood?"
"No."
"Well, how about that I needed to see you."
"Why? Did one of my neighbors call and say my cat's been stalking their bunny?"
One corner of his mouth went up. "You know, that sounds like a euphemism. A kind of salacious one"
"Ooh, big words for Mr. Average Joe street cop," she said, knowing she sounded bitchy but unable to help it.
"Can you take out the angry eyes, Mrs. Potato Head, and just let me talk to you? ~ Leslie Parrish
Big Words quotes by Leslie Parrish
Why do you talk all the time?" I asked. It was a rhetorical question, but she cocked her head on one side and considered it carefully.
"I think it's 'cause I don't know any big words, like you and Mummy," she said, just in time to pull me out of my magazine again, "so I have to use lots and lots of little ones. ~ Theodore Sturgeon
Big Words quotes by Theodore Sturgeon
My mom says I'm destined to be the sort of man who uses big words but pronounces them incorrectly. ~ Karen Russell
Big Words quotes by Karen Russell
Politicians that proclaim big words without meaning rule in democracy. At best they allow themselves to discover that it's better to be rich and healthy than sick and poor and that it is necessary to care for 'good of Poland - clap clap, hurricane of clapping. ~ Janusz Korwin-Mikke
Big Words quotes by Janusz Korwin-Mikke
I go through the text making sure I haven't used any big words. If I find any fancy adjectives have crept in, I replace them with small words like 'nice' and 'big'. I've liked these words ever since I was told not to use them in English class at school. After that, I check that the sentences are short so as people won't get confused and I shorten all the chapters so they won't get bored. I can't read anything complicated these days, my attention span is too short. Everyone else probably feels the same. ~ Martin Millar
Big Words quotes by Martin Millar
I'm not really one for fancy, big words and poetry, and the scriptwriters worked very hard on 'Paradise Lost' to translate it. ~ Callan McAuliffe
Big Words quotes by Callan McAuliffe
O.K., so I'm not so smart. I'm working class. But it's the working class that keeps the world running, and it's the working class that gets exploited. What the hell kind of revolution have you got just tossing out big words that working-class people can't understand? What the hell kind of social revolution is that? I mean, I'd like to make the world a better place, too. If somebody's really being exploited, we've got to put a stop to it. That's what I believe, and that's why I ask questions. ~ Haruki Murakami
Big Words quotes by Haruki Murakami
For all these reasons (...) working class intellectuals like big words and their sentence formation is excessively ornate. It's what they think of as 'smart'. Pomposity. It's an embarrassing condition of being unsophisticated and not knowing what is truly smart which is simplicity and modernism; certainly it was twenty years ago that I learned to write. But the working class person is above all afraid to seem dumb so in acting 'smart' and footnoting everything they betray the insecurity and weightiness of the unexperienced conclusion, which is an imitation of what writers are like. In general I think writers are not smart. They are something else and each writer can fill in a word here, but smart is not what that word is. ~ Eileen Myles
Big Words quotes by Eileen Myles
I raise an eyebrow, working to achieve the right tone of intellectual superiority. If you've never read the Twilight books or the Hunger Games series you wouldn't understand. Not. One. Bit. They are complex stories. Big words. Probably beyond you. ~ Anne Eliot
Big Words quotes by Anne Eliot
In my experience , big words ornament bad news. ~ Roshani Chokshi
Big Words quotes by Roshani Chokshi
Well, anyway, when I am grown up," said Anne decidedly, "I'm always going to talk to little girls as if they were too, and I'll never laugh when they use big words. I know from sorrowful experience how that hurts one's feelings. ~ L.M. Montgomery
Big Words quotes by L.M. Montgomery
All those big words produce disgust today. ~ Dejan Stojanovic
Big Words quotes by Dejan Stojanovic
These guys are fakes. All they've got on their minds is impressing the new girls with the big words they're so proud of, while sticking their hanse up their skirts. And when they graduate, they cut their hair short and march off to work for Mitsubishi or IBM or Fuji Bank. They marry pretty wives who've never read Marx and have kids they give fancy names to that are enough to make you puke. Smash what educational-industrial complex? Don't make me laugh! ~ Haruki Murakami
Big Words quotes by Haruki Murakami
It must be lovely to be grown up, Marilla, when just being treated as if you were is so nice ... Well, anyway, when I grow up, I'm always going to talk to little girls as if they were, too, and I'll never laugh when they use big words. ~ L.M. Montgomery
Big Words quotes by L.M. Montgomery
Poor Faulkner. Does he really think big emotions come from big words? He thinks I don't know the ten-dollar words. I know them all right. But there are older and simpler and better words, and those are the ones I use. ~ Ernest Hemingway,
Big Words quotes by Ernest Hemingway,
One guy yelled at me, 'You stupid bitch, how do you live like that with nothing in your brain?' Well, that did it. I wasn't going to put up with that. Ok, I'm not so smart. I'm working class. But it's the working class that keeps the world running, and it's the working classes that get exploited. What kind of revolution is it that just throws out big words that working-class people can't understand? What kind of crap social revolution is that? I mean, I'd like to make the world a better place, too. If somebody's really being exploited, we've got to put a stop to it. That's what I believe, and that's why I ask questions. Am I right, or what? ~ Haruki Murakami
Big Words quotes by Haruki Murakami
One time I happened to use the word 'denigrate' onstage, and it didn't get any reaction. So as I continued my act, the left side of my brain was fast-forwarding to see if I had any other big words coming up. ~ Bob Newhart
Big Words quotes by Bob Newhart
It's fun to be almost grown up in some ways, but it's not the kind of fun I expected, Marilla. There's so much to learn and do and think that there isn't time for big words. ~ L.M. Montgomery
Big Words quotes by L.M. Montgomery
We use such big words to move nowhere. ~ Charles Bukowski
Big Words quotes by Charles Bukowski
Spencer, you do not need to know any more big words. You're already scary enough to anyone under 50. ~ Sara Shepard
Big Words quotes by Sara Shepard
I suppose the thing I most would have liked to have known or been reassured about is that in the world, what counts more than talent, what counts more than energy or concentration or commitment, or anything else - is kindness. And the more in the world that you encounter kindness and cheerfulness - which is its kind of amiable uncle or aunt - the better the world always is. And all the big words: virtue, justice, truth - are dwarfed by the greatness of kindness. ~ Stephen Fry
Big Words quotes by Stephen Fry
Sam, I know you're upset over what happened with you and Drake," Astrid began.
"Upset?" Sam echoed the word with an ironic smirk.
"But that's no excuse for you keeping secrets from us."
"Yeah," Howard said, "Don't you know only Astrid is allowed to keep secrets?"
"Shut up, Howard," Astrid snapped.
"Yeah, we get to lie because we're the smart ones," Howard said. "Not like all those idiots out there."
Astrid turned her attention back to Sam. "This is not okay, Sam. The council has the responsibility. Not you alone."
Sam looked like he could not care less about what she was saying. He looked almost beyond reach, indifferent to what was going on around him.
"Hey," Astrid said. "We're talking to you."
That did it. His jaw clenched. His head snapped up. His eyes blazed. "Don't push me. That wasn't you with your skin whipped off and covered in blood. That was me. That was me who went down into that mine shaft to try to fight the gaiaphage."
Astrid blinked. "No one is minimizing what you've done, Sam. You're a hero. But at the same time - "
Sam was on his feet. "At the same time? At the same time you were here in town. Edilio had a bullet in his chest. Dekka was torn to pieces. I was trying not to scream from the…You and Albert and Howard, you weren't there, were you?"
"I was busy standing up to Zil, trying to save Hunter's life," Astrid yelled.
"But it wasn't you and your big words, was it? It was Orc who stopped Zil. ~ Michael Grant
Big Words quotes by Michael Grant
If you let your man-made actions to be more frequent than your man-said words you will travail with praise in man-win visions. Do more, say less, win big. ~ Israelmore Ayivor
Big Words quotes by Israelmore Ayivor
Without big words, how could many people say small things? ~ Jean Antoine Petit-Senn
Big Words quotes by Jean Antoine Petit-Senn
I respect you," he murmured. "and your views. I think of you as an equal. I respect your brains, and all those big words you like to use. But I also want to rip your clothes off and have sex with you until you scream and cry and see God." -Jack Travis (Smooth Talking Stranger) ~ Lisa Kleypas
Big Words quotes by Lisa Kleypas
In China there was once a man who liked pictures of dragons, and his clothing and furnishings were all designed accordingly. His deep affection for dragons was brought to the attention of the dragon god, and onde day a real dragon appeared before his window. It is said that he died of fright. He was probably a man who always spoke big words but acted differently when facing the real thing. ~ Yamamoto Tsunetomo
Big Words quotes by Yamamoto Tsunetomo
I'm mainstream, and I have pretty chart-tastic tastes. I don't often veer away from a big melodic song with big words for big stadiums. ~ Robbie Williams
Big Words quotes by Robbie Williams
My grandmother would give me a beautiful book each year. I especially loved the Beatrix Potter books. They were very detailed. And I promised myself that was what I'd do. I also loved the big words she used. I was excited because I knew what they meant from the context. I put a few big words in for just that reason. ~ Jan Brett
Big Words quotes by Jan Brett
Glancing up, I meet her gaze. "You can work on that mouth of yours."
"What's wrong with it?"
"It's running a little rough. Nothing a face-fucking can't fix, though."
Her eyes widen. "Big words for a guy who drinks Capri Sun."
I try to keep a straight face, but I crack at that, letting out a laugh. "Got me there. ~ J.M. Darhower
Big Words quotes by J.M. Darhower
Good things don't come easy and anything free you have got to ponder the tiny
literature under the big words. ~ Harken Headers
Big Words quotes by Harken Headers
He frowned back. He wasn't a charity case. Nor was he a man whose mind was easily changed. Redheaded librarians who used big words didn't scare him. ~ Becky Wade
Big Words quotes by Becky Wade
And he uses big words, so he's probably a huge nerd. To be fair, I do too, but that's because I'm fabulous. Jack has no such excuse. ~ Sara Wolf
Big Words quotes by Sara Wolf
Only big words for ordinary things on account of the sound. ~ James Joyce
Big Words quotes by James Joyce
Those were all big Words, to be sure, but as has been said, September read often, and liked it best when Words did not pretend to be simple, but put on their full armor and rode out with colors flying." - Valente, The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of her own making. ~ Cathrynne M. Valente
Big Words quotes by Cathrynne M. Valente
If you use big words, no one will know you aren't doing jack squat. ~ Stephen Colbert
Big Words quotes by Stephen Colbert
As is usual with the ignorant, long words had the fascination for both girls that obstacles on the road have for a bad driver; instead of avoiding them they ran into them. ~ Dorothy Whipple
Big Words quotes by Dorothy Whipple
I don't feel like I have to use big words or theories to get my point across. People are like, "Whoa. That's crazy" and make it into this crazy thing. ~ Jhene Aiko
Big Words quotes by Jhene Aiko
Big words seldom accompany good deeds. ~ Charlotte Whitton
Big Words quotes by Charlotte Whitton
I'm not the guy who will sit in a room with somebody who's using a bunch of big words and just act like I know what they're talking about, or sit on set with somebody and they'll be trying to explain something and not using layman's terms and I'll just say, "Hey, excuse me, what do you mean by that? Explain to me so I just understand." ~ Mark Wahlberg
Big Words quotes by Mark Wahlberg
When I need to be precise about a plant, I use its Latin name, even if my nongardening friends sometimes look at me a little funny for using big words in a dead language - or in the kind of horticultural Esperanto that botanical names make up. ~ Allen Lacy
Big Words quotes by Allen Lacy
I did manage to ditch my prologue add quotation marks to my dialogue, take out the big words, and I would have cut some more but there's not enough to cut. ~ John Grisham
Big Words quotes by John Grisham
I fear those big words, Stephen said, which make us so unhappy. ~ James Joyce
Big Words quotes by James Joyce
Because if there was one thing he didn't like it was big words, they just lied and covered things up, those big words, they didn't let what really was live and breathe but just carried it off into something that wanted to be big, that's what he thought ... ~ Jon Fosse
Big Words quotes by Jon Fosse
Small-minded speakers and writers hide behind big words. ~ Mokokoma Mokhonoana
Big Words quotes by Mokokoma Mokhonoana
Organization. If you want big words to talk to intellectuals with, that's a fine big word, son, just as many syllables as imagination, and it has a lot more realism in it. ~ Robert Shea
Big Words quotes by Robert Shea
Like the college professor he was, Kittredge groped only for big words, and, finding no apt ones, he coined a lot of untranslatable new ones. ~ Kurt Vonnegut
Big Words quotes by Kurt Vonnegut
I hate anything that occupies more space than it is worth ... I hate to see a parcel of big words without anything in them. ~ William Hazlitt
Big Words quotes by William Hazlitt
Fancy words and ambiguous notions make you feel like your argument is valid but it exudes multiple logical fallacies, which make you continue to search for a valid point. ~ Jeffrey G. Duarte
Big Words quotes by Jeffrey G. Duarte
I don't really get too high or too low. I think when you have a big tournament, that's the important thing: managing emotion. ~ Tim Howard
Big Words quotes by Tim Howard
If you don't think talk is cheap, we need to have a heart-to-heart conversation. ~ Frank Sonnenberg
Big Words quotes by Frank Sonnenberg
I ripped all her clothes off. She twisted and turned, slow, so they would slip out from under her. Then she closed her eyes and lay back on the pillow. Her hair was falling over her shoulders in snaky curls. Her eye was all black, and her breasts weren't drawn up and pointing up at me, but soft, and spread out in two big pink splotches. She looked like the great grandmother of every whore in the world. The devil got his money's worth that night. ~ James M. Cain
Big Words quotes by James M. Cain
What do we do while we wait for my parents to find Jersey?" She let him go, took a step back.
"We live a normal life."
The words left his lips without emotion or meaning, because at this point he knew there was no such thing as a normal life for him.
Deep in his heart, he was still a vampire. ~ Kasi Blake
Big Words quotes by Kasi Blake
In the future, people will blame the Eighties for all societal ills in the same way that people have previously blamed the Sixties. The various Thatcherite Big Bangs - monetarism, deregulation, libertarianism - have been working their way through the culture ever since. ~ Peter York
Big Words quotes by Peter York
For in marriage a little licence,a little independence there must be between people living together day in and day out in the same house; which Richard gave her, and she him. ~ Virginia Woolf
Big Words quotes by Virginia Woolf
Whatever belonging to the region of thought and feeling is uttered in words, is of necessity uttered imperfectly. For thought and feeling are infinite, and human speech, although far-reaching in scope, and marvelous in delicacy, can embody them after all but approximately and suggestively. ~ George MacDonald
Big Words quotes by George MacDonald
I might not have transferred to a new school, but it was still like I'd joined the world's oldest, grayest, least peppy cheerleading squad, and I was sick of being stuck in a castle like a prisoner myself with the whole lousy bunch of them.
"Garda! Vin aici!" I heard myself growling in a voice I'd never used before.
I wasn't sure where the words came from, either. They weren't on my DVD, but I must have heard Lucius summon the guards often enough that when I really needed to use the phrase it just came out, and both of the vampires who were posted at the doors stepped to my sides.
I didn't look around at the Elders - I wasn't about to stop glaring at my new worst enemy - but I heard murmurs again, like everybody was more surprised by my flawless Romanian than by my announcement about the trial.
I narrowed my eyes at Flaviu. "Well? Do you want to see how long you can last without blood? ~ Beth Fantaskey
Big Words quotes by Beth Fantaskey
What if we spent that energy instead on saying the right things to the right ppl at the right time? What if we spent less time shouting into the void and being washed over with shouting in return--and more time talking in rooms to those for whom our words are intended? Whether it's a real room or a group chat on Signal, I want to see a restoration of context, a kind of context collection in the face of context collapse. If we only have so much attention to give, and only so much time on this earth, we might want to think about re-fusing our attention and our communication with the attention they both deserve. ~ Jenny Odell
Big Words quotes by Jenny Odell
I needed you. I was trying to keep my head above water but you were the person who insisted on letting me drown because your words and action were weighing me down. ~ Charlena E. Jackson
Big Words quotes by Charlena E. Jackson
There still shines the most important nuance by virtue of which the noble felt themselves to be men of a higher rank. They designate themselves simply by their superiority in power (as "the powerful," "the masters," "the commanders") or by the most clearly visible signs of this superiority, for example, as "the rich," "the possessors" (this is the meaning of 'Arya,' and of corresponding words in Iranian and Slavic). ~ Friedrich Nietzsche
Big Words quotes by Friedrich Nietzsche
I think there's been this long cycle of the big companies making a lot of money by underestimating people's intelligence and people are used to it now. So, they're so used to having their intelligence underestimated that, for most of them, it really isn't worth the bother of paying a little more attention to something that might hit them on a deeper level. But you can't really read people's minds. ~ J. Robbins
Big Words quotes by J. Robbins
Darlin', never doubt that my fears are every bit as big as yours, with commitment topping the list in big bold letters. Don't run away, Callie. I need you to stay," he whispered softly.
"I want to stay," she said just before he kissed her again. ~ Carolyn Brown
Big Words quotes by Carolyn Brown
My family is really, really Southern - I had two uncle Bubbas, and grandparents that we called Big Mama and Big Daddy. ~ Laura Lippman
Big Words quotes by Laura Lippman
Words can hurt, but sometimes it's the words you never got to say that hurt the most. ~ Cinda Williams Chima
Big Words quotes by Cinda Williams Chima
The bigger the government, the more the corruption. It's almost never mentioned, and it might be the biggest of the ten principles that I am speaking of ... Do you know who has created the greatest evils of history? Big governments. Big SECULAR governments. Hitler, Mao, Stalin, Pol Pot, all big States. Why would anybody trust the big state? It's amazing how many callers have imbued the college message that more people have been killed by religion than anything else in history. NO. More people have been killed by governments than anything else in history ... ... .and just in the 20th century alone, and none of them were religious. You don't learn THAT in college. ~ Dennis Prager
Big Words quotes by Dennis Prager
You're bleeding," Fitz interrupted, lifting Sophie's hand and examining her palm. Thin streams of red dripped down her skin. "These look bad, Sophie. You should get them treated."

"I'm fine," she said, trying not to think about the blood, or the fact that Fitz was technically holding her hand, since both things made her head spin way too fast. "Really. It's not a big deal. We don't need to call Elwin. ~ Shannon Messenger
Big Words quotes by Shannon Messenger
As far as my sport is concerned, my mission is to make it as big as it deserves to be. We've been growing, it's just not as noticeable. The NCAA picked beach volleyball up to be a championship sport, and it was the fastest test sport that's been adopted. That's a really big deal for our sport because that just means the USA system is going to have a feeder system from the college system. ~ Kerri Walsh
Big Words quotes by Kerri Walsh
I realize I'm in no position to tell you what to do," he said, "but you seem to handle things much better when you think about them less. Get out of your head. Trust your gut. Trust your heart."
"I'm terrified of my heart." I didn't mean to say those words out loud, but there was something about him that made this room, and this moment, the only place I could ever admit to the truth.
He leaned down by my ear and whispered, "There's nothing there to fear." ~ Kiera Cass
