Family life is tough, I'll say that for it. But in my case, I've mined the family. In a sense, I've used it. I've used what happened - the different events, the births of children, birthdays. Connecting, not connecting. Regret, shame, guilt. I mean, they're all in the songs. And love, too, I hasten to add. ~ Loudon Wainwright III
Birthdays quotes by Loudon Wainwright III
I don't make to-do lists, but if I did, today's would have gone something like this: 1. get drunk, 2. get laid, 3. go surfing (not necessarily in that order.) Noticeably absent from the list: get arrested. And yet here I am, spending my eighteenth birthday with my back against the wall of the Colonel's hunting cabin, two FBI agents prowling the dark with their guns drawn, both trying to get me to confess to the murder of my friend Preston DeWitt. ~ Paula Stokes
Birthdays quotes by Paula Stokes
Mother did not spend all her time in paying dull calls to dull ladies, and sitting dully at home waiting for dull ladies to pay calls to her. She was almost always there, ready to play with the children, and read to them, and help them to do their home-lessons. Besides this she used to write stories for them while they were at school, and read them aloud after tea, and she always made up funny pieces of poetry for their birthdays and for other great occasions, such as the christening of the new kittens, or the refurnishing of the doll's house, or the time when they were getting over the mumps. ~ E. Nesbit
Birthdays quotes by E. Nesbit
Glen had a disability more disfiguring than a burn and more terrifying than cancer.
Glen had been born on the day after Christmas.
"My parents just combine my birthday with Christmas, that's all," he explained.
But we knew this was a lie. Glen's parents just wrapped a couple of his Christmas presents in birthday-themed wrapping paper, stuck some candles in a supermarket cake, and had a dinner of Christmas leftovers. ~ Augusten Burroughs
Birthdays quotes by Augusten Burroughs
Being a Jehovah's Witness, I don't celebrate birthdays or holidays. I don't vote. ~ Prince
Birthdays quotes by Prince
Years are an optical illusion that obscure our lived experiences. ~ Efrat Cybulkiewicz
Birthdays quotes by Efrat Cybulkiewicz
I used to get a lot of rubber ducks on my birthdays as presents because, you know, I make rubber ducks. But then I get the ugliest ones with a neck, ugly colors, and devil ears. I don't like those. ~ Florentijn Hofman
Birthdays quotes by Florentijn Hofman
Our birthdays are feathers in the broad wing of time. ~ Jean Paul Friedrich Richter
Birthdays quotes by Jean Paul Friedrich Richter
Don't send funny greeting cards on birthdays or at Christmas. Save them for funerals, when their cheery effect is needed. ~ P. J. O'Rourke
Birthdays quotes by P. J. O'Rourke
My ace in the hole as a human being used to be my capacity for remembering birthdays. I worked at it. Whenever I made a new friend, I made a point of finding out his or her birthday early on, and I would record it in my Filofax calendar. ~ Susan Orlean
Birthdays quotes by Susan Orlean
I enjoy working with the American Cancer Society because I fully support its mission of saving lives and creating a world with less cancer and more birthdays for everyone. ~ Larry Fitzgerald
Birthdays quotes by Larry Fitzgerald
But I get it; it's a way to mark time. When your life's too busy, it forces you to check in with yourself. Or when it feels all the same all the time, maybe it can make you feel special. ~ Jami Attenberg
Birthdays quotes by Jami Attenberg
To think, when one is no longer young, when one is not yet old, that one is no longer young, that one is not yet old, that is perhaps something. ~ Maxwell Maltz
Birthdays quotes by Maxwell Maltz
Let's make a law that gay people can have birthdays, but straight people get more cake
you know, to send the right message to kids. ~ Bill Maher
Birthdays quotes by Bill Maher
You know you're getting old when all the names in your black book have M. D. after them. ~ Harrison Ford
Birthdays quotes by Harrison Ford
Shepley walked out of his bedroom pulling a T-shirt over his head. His eyebrows pushed together. "Did they just leave?"

"Yeah," I said absently, rinsing my cereal bowl and dumping Abby's leftover oatmeal in the sink. She'd barely touched it.

"Well, what the hell? Mare didn't even say goodbye."

"You knew she was going to class. Quit being a cry baby."

Shepley pointed to his chest. "I'm the cry baby? Do you remember last night?"

"Shut up."

"That's what I thought." He sat on the couch and slipped on his sneakers. "Did you ask Abby about her birthday?"

"She didn't say much, except that she's not into birthdays."

"So what are we doing?"

"Throwing her a party." Shepley nodded, waiting for me to explain. "I thought we'd surprise her. Invite some of our friends over and have America take her out for a while."

Shepley put on his white ball cap, pulling it down so low over his brows I couldn't see his eyes. "She can manage that. Anything else?"

"How do you feel about a puppy?"

Shepley laughed once. "It's not my birthday, bro."

I walked around the breakfast bar and leaned my hip against the stool. "I know, but she lives in the dorms. She can't have a puppy."

"Keep it here? Seriously? What are we going to do with a dog?"

"I found a Cairn Terrier online. It's perfect."

"A what?"

"Pidge is ~ Jamie McGuire
Birthdays quotes by Jamie McGuire
The math was irrefutable: The one winning strategy was concealment. Only fools revealed their birthdays. ~ Peter Watts
Birthdays quotes by Peter Watts
People are so lonely, they spend their birthdays on the Internet, thanking people for wishing them a happy birthday, people who only know it's their birthday because Facebook told them. ~ Caroline Kepnes
Birthdays quotes by Caroline Kepnes
-You know how to call me
although such a noise now
would only confuse the air
Neither of us can forget
the steps we danced
the words you stretched
to call me out of dust
Yes I long for you
not just as a leaf for weather
or vase for hands
but with a narrow human longing
that makes a man refuse
any fields but his own
I wait for you at an
unexpected place in your journey
like the rusted key
or the feather you do not pick up.-

-I WILL NEVER FIND THE FACES
FOR ALL GOODBYES I'VE MADE.-

For Anyone Dressed in Marble
The miracle we all are waiting for
is waiting till the Parthenon falls down
and House of Birthdays is a house no more
and fathers are unpoisoned by renown.
The medals and the records of abuse
can't help us on our pilgrimage to lust,
but like whips certain perverts never use,
compel our flesh in paralysing trust.
I see an orphan, lawless and serene,
standing in a corner of the sky,
body something like bodies that have been,
but not the scar of naming in his eye.
Bred close to the ovens, he's burnt inside.
Light, wind, cold, dark -- they use him like a bride.

I Had It for a Moment

I had it for a moment
I knew why I must thank you
I saw powerful governing men in black suits
I saw them undressed
in the arms of young mistresses
the men more nake ~ Leonard Cohen
Birthdays quotes by Leonard Cohen
As a child, that had meant looking forward to holidays and birthdays and, most of all, becoming a grown-up. Upon achieving adulthood she had discovered that being a grown-up wasn't nearly as satisfying as she had anticipated. What was more, the future was uncomfortably unpredictable. At ~ Jayne Ann Krentz
Birthdays quotes by Jayne Ann Krentz
I count too heavily on birthdays, though I know I shouldn't. Inevitably I begin to assess my life by them, figure out how I'm doing by how many people remember; it's like the old fantasy of attending your own funeral: You get to see who your friends are, get to see who shows up. ~ Lorrie Moore
Birthdays quotes by Lorrie Moore
I HAD BEEN IN Tarbean for years at this point. Three birthdays had slipped by unnoticed and I was just past fifteen. ~ Patrick Rothfuss
Birthdays quotes by Patrick Rothfuss
If you look in the Bible there's no birthdays. ~ Prince
Birthdays quotes by Prince
Damn right! The time of your life! Gotta wrap up all those life events, all those parties, into one - birthdays, wedding, funeral." THen he turns to their father. "Very efficient, right, Dad?" ...
"Here's to my brother, Lev," Marcus says. "And to our parents! Who have always done the right thing. The appropriate thing. Who have always given generously to charity. Who have always given 10 percent of everything to our church. Hey, Mom - we're lucky you had ten kids instead of five, otherwise we'd end up having to cut Lev off at the waist! ~ Neal Shusterman
Birthdays quotes by Neal Shusterman
On one of my birthdays I did 1,000 chin-ups and 1,000 push-ups. For my 70th birthday I towed 70 boats with 70 people in it, my feet and hands tied-my hands were in handcuffs, my feet were tied together-and I towed these boats a mile-and-a-half in Long Beach Harbor. For my 93rd birthday I'm going to tow my wife across the bathtub. ~ Jack LaLanne
Birthdays quotes by Jack LaLanne
I've spent many birthdays on a movie set, all great days. ~ Tom Cruise
Birthdays quotes by Tom Cruise
My faculties are decaying now and soon I shall be so I cannot remember any but the things that never happened. ~ Mark Twain
Birthdays quotes by Mark Twain
Practical gifts are another great way to be thoughtful, and they work for anything from birthdays to dinner-party gifts. ~ Phoebe Cates
Birthdays quotes by Phoebe Cates
Well, birthdays are merely symbolic of how another year has gone by and how little we've grown. No matter how desperate we are that someday a better self will emerge, with each flicker of the candles on the cake, we know it's not to be, that for the rest of our sad, wretched pathetic lives, this is who we are to the bitter end. Inevitably, irrevocably; happy birthday? No such thing. ~ Jerry Seinfeld
Birthdays quotes by Jerry Seinfeld
I'd sleep in a little, work out, do laundry, run errands, buy presents for people with birthdays coming up. I like it when I don't have to be anywhere, and anything I do is my choice. ~ Carrie Underwood
Birthdays quotes by Carrie Underwood
After it's all over, the early childhood, a chain of birthdays woven with candlelight, piles of presents, voices of relatives singing and praising your promise and future, after the years of schooling, fitting yourself into different size desks, memorizing, reciting, reporting, and performing for jury after jury of teachers, counselors, and administrators, you still feel inadequate, alone, vulnerable, and naked in a world that can be unforgiving and terribly demanding. ~ V.C. Andrews
Birthdays quotes by V.C. Andrews
twelve plus three. Steve also reminded me that fifteen-month tours brought to bear the "law of twos" - soldiers would now potentially miss two Christmases, two anniversaries, two birthdays. Still, ~ Robert M. Gates
Birthdays quotes by Robert M. Gates
I could cut silhouettes almost as soon as I could manage to hold a pair of scissors. I could paint, too, and read, and recite; but these things did not surprise anyone very much. But everybody was astonished about the scissor cuts, which seemed a more unusual accomplishment. The silhouettes were very much praised, and I cut out silhouettes for all the birthdays in the family. Did anyone warn me as to where this path would lead? Not in the least; I was encouraged to continue. ~ Lotte Reiniger
Birthdays quotes by Lotte Reiniger
Birthdays are like politicians. I don't like any of them, but they still keep coming around. ~ Jarod Kintz
Birthdays quotes by Jarod Kintz
The day of birth is a miraculous day. ~ Lailah Gifty Akita
Birthdays quotes by Lailah Gifty Akita
I remember the day I started school; my mother's tears as I skipped away; birthdays with candles on the cake, too soon too many abandoned for the mess they made. ~ Francis Norris, 1st Earl Of Berkshire
Birthdays quotes by Francis Norris, 1st Earl Of Berkshire
Sam and Charlotte were born at the exact same moment, but they don't have the same birthdays. How could this be? ~ Puzzleland
Birthdays quotes by Puzzleland
The Barbies with their stick legs and rocket breasts were another problem Megan had to endure. She was supposed to spend hours dressing up or playing house with them, including the darker ones she was supposed to find more relatable. In a fit she'd once tried to commit Barbicide, defaced them with colored marker pens, chopped off hair, extracted eyes with scissors and de-limbed a few... The Barbie invasion proliferated on birthdays and at Christmas, relatives talked about incredible collection, as if she'd actually chosen to have them in her life. ~ Bernardine Evaristo
Birthdays quotes by Bernardine Evaristo
For years, I worked seven-day weeks, through birthdays and most public holidays, Christmases and New Year's Eves included. I worked mornings and afternoons, resuming work after dinner. I remember feeling as if life were a protracted exercise in pulling myself out of a well by a rope, and that rope was work. ~ Antonella Gambotto-Burke
Birthdays quotes by Antonella Gambotto-Burke
I like birthdays. Every time someone is born, that's just like bringing more cake into the world. ~ Demetri Martin
Birthdays quotes by Demetri Martin
That's how we should celebrate all birthdays... with an ass-kicking. ~ Mord McGhee
Birthdays quotes by Mord McGhee
This country makes a man younger than his birthdays. ~ Sam Kieth
Birthdays quotes by Sam Kieth
Some birthdays make you happy.
Some birthdays bring you down.
Some birthdays make you jump for joy
While others paint a frown.

Regardless of your feelings
Or if you're far or near,
The earth was blessed this special day
When Heaven placed you here. ~ Richelle E. Goodrich
Birthdays quotes by Richelle E. Goodrich
But I could end up in prison." He waved off her concern. "I'd break you out." "You'd do that for me?" "You're my daughter, aren't you?" Kate smiled. Sure, he'd missed a lot of Christmases and birthdays during her childhood, but not many fathers could be counted on to mount a prison break. ~ Janet Evanovich
Birthdays quotes by Janet Evanovich
Today was the first day of summer, she realized, her spirits lifting like a kite. She loved milestones of any sort: birthdays, anniversaries, holidays, checks on the calendar, notches on a growth chart. Today would be special, brand new. She felt it deep inside. Summer was here with sunny days and balmy nights, the informality of barbecues and dips in the swimming pool. She was so relieved to have the grind of the school year finished. She missed playing with her children. ~ Mary Alice Monroe
Birthdays quotes by Mary Alice Monroe
I loved the domesticity of my life as a struggling actor. When I wasn't going to auditions, I could do things like cook dishes from scratch and take them to parties or be really thoughtful about birthdays and anniversaries. ~ Jenna Fischer
Birthdays quotes by Jenna Fischer
The reason I met my husband was because I remembered a friend's birthday. The moral of the story is: Remember people's birthdays. ~ Julianna Margulies
Birthdays quotes by Julianna Margulies
For some reason our lives were marked by summers ... Summer was the time when our lives joined completely, when we all had our birthdays, when really important things happened ~ Ann Brashares
Birthdays quotes by Ann Brashares
Years should be nothing to you. Who asked you to count them or consider them? In the world of wild Nature, time is measured by seasons only-the bird does not know how old it is-the rose-tree does not count its birthdays! ~ Marie Corelli
Birthdays quotes by Marie Corelli
And the news got worse. It appeared that there was this whole other person Jesus Christ whose birthday a lot of people tended to confuse with mine. I was personally outraged. It was a long time before I forgave the Lord for that. ~ Ava Gardner
Birthdays quotes by Ava Gardner
Your parents are weirdos, in the best possible way. They do not celebrate birthdays; never in your life have you received a present on the tenth of December. Instead, you are given books on the days that their authors were born. ~ Robin Sloan
Birthdays quotes by Robin Sloan
In a world of seven billion people, where every inch of land has been mapped, much of it developed, and too much of it destroyed, the sea remains the final unseen, untouched, and undiscovered wilderness, the planet's last great frontier. There are no mobile phones down there, no e-mails, no tweeting, no twerking, no car keys to lose, no terrorist threats, no birthdays to forget, no penalties for late credit card payments, and no dog shit to step in before a job interview. All the stress, noise, and distractions of life are left at the surface. The ocean is the last truly quiet place on Earth. ~ James Nestor
Birthdays quotes by James Nestor
She loved Bram in a clear-eyed way she'd never loved her ex-husband, no rose-colored glasses or mindless giddiness, no Cinderella fantasies or false certainty that he'd put her life in order. What she felt for Bram was messy, honest, and soul-deep. He felt like ... part of her, the best and the worst. Like someone she wanted to struggle through life with; share triumphs and catastrophes; share holidays, birthdays, every days ~ Susan Elizabeth Phillips
Birthdays quotes by Susan Elizabeth Phillips
... out here in "the real world," every day was sort of like the one before. I guess that's why people freaked out about birthdays: Those at least put a stake in the ground, somehow ended one chapter and opened a next. ~ David Rosen
Birthdays quotes by David Rosen
There is never a right time to break someone's heart. And anyone with even a microgram of sensitivity in his or her body will agonise for an age over that timing. Only problem is there is always some reason not to make someone unhappy. The day a relationship end, if that relationship was at all important to the suckers involved, becomes as important an anniversary as a wedding day or birthday.
Obviously, the average person doesn't want to kick someone they once loved while that person is down.
It's not just hard times when someone is down that become obstacles to making your getaway. After times of bereavement, unemployment and general unhappiness, those events that should be happy ones also make some times off limits for the eager would- be dumper. Christmas, birthdays, Easter all impossible. A clever person with a sensitive lover that they sense is not quite as into them as he or she used to be, could starve off the inevitable for years by carefully spacing out this crucial dates. ~ Chris Manby
Birthdays quotes by Chris Manby
Death had come frequently to the bleak village where the family lived. Indeed, death had been a regular visitor in their own house, taking seven of Chase's twelve brothers and sisters before their fifth birthdays. Whenever, he thought of these children, it was to imagine an inexorable shadow advancing over their tiny forms, at length to darken hearts and eyes. ~ S.K. Rizzolo
Birthdays quotes by S.K. Rizzolo
Touch all of your scars and remember their birthdays, remind yourself how far you've come. ~ Key Ballah
Birthdays quotes by Key Ballah
Birthdays, like weddings, anniversaries, baptisms, bar mitzvahs, wakes, are occasions to retie family ties, renew family feuds, restore family feeling, add to family lore, tribalize the psyche, generate guilt, exercise power, wave a foreign flag, talk in tongues, exchange lies, remember dates and the old days, to be fond of how it was, be angry at what it should be, and weep at why it isn't. ~ William H Gass
Birthdays quotes by William H Gass
Birthdays are nature's way of telling you to eat more cake. ~ Jo Brand
Birthdays quotes by Jo Brand
Time is a function of memory; what does not pass through a smile flies away through dark. Celebrating passing time applies to the successful ones. Cheer on your birthday, you're among the lucky ones. ~ Shady K. Hallab
Birthdays quotes by Shady K. Hallab
How old are you?" asks Plastic again.
"That doesn't matter," says StingRay. "What matters is how much stuff I know. People who know a lot of stuff don't need birthdays. ~ Emily Jenkins
Birthdays quotes by Emily Jenkins
I'm not going to be caught around here for any fool celebration. To hell with birthdays! ~ Norman Rockwell
Birthdays quotes by Norman Rockwell
There are no words, not in English, Spanish, Arabic, or Hebrew, that have been invented to explain what it's like to lose a child. The nightmarish heartache of it. The unexplainable trepidation that follows. No mother loses a child without believing she failed as a parent. No father loses a child without believing he failed to protect his family from pain. The child may be gone, but the yearsthe child were meant to live remain behind, solid in the mind like an aging ghost. The birthdays, the holidays, the last days of school - they all remain, circled in red lipstick on a calendar nailed to the wall. A constant shadow that grows, even in the dark. As I was saying…there are no words. ~ D.E. Eliot
Birthdays quotes by D.E. Eliot
Natales grate numeras?
(Do you count your birthdays with gratitude?) ~ Horace
Birthdays quotes by Horace
Every birthday celebrates a life because every life is important. ~ Richelle E. Goodrich
Birthdays quotes by Richelle E. Goodrich
[M]y mother read a horror novel every night. She had read every one in the library. When birthdays and Christmas would come, I would consider buying her a new one, the latest Dean R. Koontz or Stephen King or whatever, but I couldn't. I didn't want to encourage her. I couldn't touch my father's cigarettes, couldn't look at the Pall Mall cartons in the pantry. I was the sort of child who couldn't even watch commercials for horror movies - the ad for Magic, the movie where marionette kills people. sent me into a six-month nightmare frenzy. So I couldn't look at her books, would turn them over so their covers wouldn't show, the raised lettering and splotches of blood - especially the V.C. Andrews oeuvre, those turgid pictures of those terrible kids, standing so still, all lit in blue. ~ Dave Eggers
Birthdays quotes by Dave Eggers
Whenever you talk to nana on one of her birthdays - her real name, by the way, is Antoinette Frances Holzworth DeMaio, though she's better known as Tebby - she'll tell you how old she is, quickly followed by 'Ain't that revoltin'? Da woyums should have me by now. I should be playnt-ed. Why ain't I playnt-ed yet?' 'Because the Lord doesn't like complainers,' my mom will say. ~ Megyn Kelly
Birthdays quotes by Megyn Kelly
Hannah ran past, beaming. I remember that feeling
when you're a kid and it's your birthday and for one day everyone makes you feel like the most special person in the world. ~ Jojo Moyes
Birthdays quotes by Jojo Moyes
New cells are born everyday and old cells die, but they have neither funerals nor birthdays. ~ Thich Nhat Hanh
Birthdays quotes by Thich Nhat Hanh
After age twelve, birthdays should be as private as hernia surgery. ~ Erma Bombeck
Birthdays quotes by Erma Bombeck
Now, over the years I've been forced to conclude that most celebrations don't work. The more carefully planned a signal occasion, the more likely it will trickle by on a pale tide of dilute well-meaningness. Christmases, birthdays, award ceremonies, and weddings are swallowed by planning and preparation on the one side and cleaning up on the other, and almost never seem to have actually happened. ~ Lionel Shriver
Birthdays quotes by Lionel Shriver
Anyway, Ms. Rothschild wasn't my first crush."
"She wasn't?"
"No. You were."
It takes me a few seconds to process this. Even then, all I can manage is, "Huh?"
"When I first moved here, before I knew your true personality." I kick him in the shin for that, and he yelps. "I was twelve, and you were eleven. I let you ride my scooter, remember? That scooter was my pride and joy. I saved up for it for two birthdays. And I let you take it for a ride."
"I thought you were just being generous."
"You crashed it and you got a big scratch on the side," he continues. "Remember that?"
"Yeah, I remember you cried."
"I didn't cry. I was justifiably upset. And that was the end of my little crush. ~ Jenny Han
Birthdays quotes by Jenny Han
We all have special numbers in our lives, and 4 is that for me. It's the day I was born. My mother's birthday, and a lot of my friends' birthdays, are on the fourth; April 4 is my wedding date. ~ Beyonce Knowles
Birthdays quotes by Beyonce Knowles
The secret of growing younger is counting blessings, not birthdays. ~ Barbara Johnson
Birthdays quotes by Barbara Johnson
As a comedian, especially one that works as much as I do, there is a lot of sacrifice. People don't see that I'm away from my family 46 weeks out of the year. I miss all the birthdays and anniversaries and holidays. ~ Gabriel Iglesias
Birthdays quotes by Gabriel Iglesias
I turned fifty and decided to take a break. After twenty-five years of working, it seemed like a good idea. Honestly, I was feeling depleted. I still cared about my career and realized, amid a worsening economic climate, that I was lucky to have one. But that appreciation felt more lodged in my head than my heart. One day, United Airlines sent me a card, along with some new luggage tags, offering congratulations on having flown 2 million miles. Quick arithmetic translated all those zeroes into the equivalent of flying from one side of the country to the other every single day - Sundays, holidays, birthdays, sick or well - for more than two years. Maybe the card from United should have offered condolences. It all added up to an abiding fatigue. And a question: Did I want to fly 2 million more miles over the next twenty-five years of my life? Was I having a low-grade midlife crisis? I had no red sports car, reckless affair, ~ Marc Freedman
Birthdays quotes by Marc Freedman
To the delicate,
You will fall for the rough ones. the cold ones. the ones filled with apathy. you will spend your time counting their affection in change. you will stuff your pockets with silence. you will settle for second hand love. Delicate, you will be fashioned in the art of forgiveness. you will love like it's a religion. you will memorize birthdays, phone numbers, and the moments you've heard goodbye. and when life becomes unyielding, and the burden too heavy, you will fault yourself. blame the material you are made of. say that you rip too easy, expect too much, give too often. you are a well that keeps on leaking.
but even if you overflow, even if the thunder finds your home, you must remain soft. and if they have broken your heart, allow it to make you softer. kinder. do not imitate the cruel. do not allow yourself to take the shape of those who hurt you. ~ Sabah Khodir
Birthdays quotes by Sabah Khodir
The main prank that we play with props is for people's birthdays. The special effects people will put a little explosive in the cake so it blows up in their face - that's always fun to play on a guest star, or one of the trainees or someone who's new. ~ Catherine Bell
Birthdays quotes by Catherine Bell
Marriage is the alliance of two people, one of whom never remembers birthdays and the other who never forgets them. ~ Ogden Nash
Birthdays quotes by Ogden Nash
I love a card. You know, cards? At birthdays? I collect them. ~ Adele
Birthdays quotes by Adele
Anybody can have a birthday. It requires nothing. Murderers have birthdays. It's the opposite of anything that I believe in. And I don't like at work where you stop everything to sing 'Happy Birthday' to someone. I feel like that's for children. ~ Mindy Kaling
Birthdays quotes by Mindy Kaling
I merely called for my hat and stick in a marked manner and legged it. But the memory rankled, if you know what I mean. We Woosters do not lightly forget. At least, we do - some things - appointments, and people's birthdays, and letters to post, and all that - but not an absolute bally insult like the above. I brooded like the dickens. ~ P.G. Wodehouse
Birthdays quotes by P.G. Wodehouse
Growing up, birthdays weren't the best of times. ~ Eric S. Brown
Birthdays quotes by Eric S. Brown
Birthdays are the worst when you've lost someone you love. Other days are that way too, of course, Tuesdays, Fridays, Sunday afternoons, holidays and school picture day and rainy days. There's at least a few lonely minutes hiding in every day once you've said goodbye to someone you love. ~ Natalie Lloyd
Birthdays quotes by Natalie Lloyd
I mean, what is an un-birthday present?"
A present given when it isn't your birthday, of course."
Alice considered a little. "I like birthday presents best," she said at last.
You don't know what you're talking about!" cried Humpty Dumpty. "How many days are there in a year?"
Three hundred and sixty-five," said Alice.
And how many birthdays have you?"
One. ~ Lewis Carroll
Birthdays quotes by Lewis Carroll
If everybody was treated like they matter - everyday; birthdays wouldn't be so *special.* ~ Mokokoma Mokhonoana
Birthdays quotes by Mokokoma Mokhonoana
A woman is never so happy as when she is being wooed. Then she is mistress of all she surveys, the cynosure of all eyes, until that day of days when she sails down the aisle, a vision in white, lovely as the stefanotis she carries, borne translucent on her father's manly arm to be handed over to her new father-surrogate. If she is clever, and if her husband has the time and the resources, she will insist on being wooed all her life; more likely she will discover that marriage is not romantic, that husbands forget birthdays and aniversaries and seldom pay compliments, are often perfunctory. ~ Germaine Greer
Birthdays quotes by Germaine Greer
How many birthdays can you fit in a shoebox? I guess that depends both on how old you are, and what size shoe you wear. ~ Jarod Kintz
Birthdays quotes by Jarod Kintz
I'm never home. I miss birthdays. I miss holidays. I miss anniversaries. I miss special moments. I'm not always there for important times, because I'm out on the road trying to make people laugh. I give up my privacy. I give up the ability to walk somewhere and relax. ~ Gabriel Iglesias
Birthdays quotes by Gabriel Iglesias
Birthdays need to be celebrated. i think it is more important to celebrate a birthday than a successful exam or promotion or a victory. because to celebrate a birthday means to say to someone "thank you for being you". ~ Henri J.M. Nouwen
Birthdays quotes by Henri J.M. Nouwen
You don't like birthdays, Aelan?" The silver eyes ran over her gently. "Because I can help you love birthdays...trust me." ~Nolan ~ Sarah Brocious
Birthdays quotes by Sarah Brocious
My grandson was sitting by a fire in the backyard and said it was getting smaller. I said he was getting bigger and in fact was twenty years old now.
He laughed and said, No I'm not I didn't have any birthdays!! ~ Neil Leckman
Birthdays quotes by Neil Leckman
He is the straight to video sequel to your summer hit movie. He is the verse to that song on the radio you have to hum cause you can't remember the words. You couldn't break this kid's heart, he is so far beyond that. This is the kind of kid who blew out the candles on hope all alone for too many birthdays to remember. And no one has ever fallen in love with anyone with a smile that's dripping with "please die". ~ Pete Wentz
Birthdays quotes by Pete Wentz
Thanks to Facebook, I never forget the birthdays of people I don't really know. ~ Andy Borowitz
Birthdays quotes by Andy Borowitz
I was in the fifth grade the first time I thought about turning thirty. My best friend Darcy and I came across a perpetual calendar in the back of the phone book, where you could look up any date in the future, and by using this little grid, determine what the day of the week would be. So we located our birthdays in the following year, mine in May and hers in September. I got Wednesday, a school night. She got a Friday. A small victory, but typical. Darcy was always the lucky one. Her skin tanned more quickly, her hair feathered more easily, and she didn't need braces. Her moonwalk was superior, as were her cart-wheels and her front handsprings (I couldn't handspring at all). She had a better sticker collection. More Michael Jackson pins. Forenze sweaters in turquoise, red, and peach (my mother allowed me none- said they were too trendy and expensive). And a pair of fifty-dollar Guess jeans with zippers at the ankles (ditto). Darcy had double-pierced ears and a sibling- even if it was just a brother, it was better than being an only child as I was.

Birthdays quotes by Oliver Sacks
