I clean my own utensils, my house and I even travel alone. I don't know what the life of a superstar is like. ~ Esha Gupta
Travel Alone quotes by Esha Gupta
You can do a great many things if you're rich which would be severely criticised if you were poor. You can go and come, you can travel alone, you can have your own establishment: I mean of course if you'll take a companion - some decayed gentlewoman, with a darned cashmere and dyed hair, who paints on velvet. ~ Henry James
Travel Alone quotes by Henry James
Paul Theroux on Blogging, Travel Writing, and Three Cups of Tea

Speaking of books that contain an element of travel, Greg Mortenson's bestseller about Central Asia was in the news recently. Were you surprised by the allegations that Three Cups of Tea contained fabrications?

No, I wasn't. One of the things The Tao of Travel shows is how unforthcoming most travel writers are, how most travelers are. They don't tell you who they were traveling with, and they're not very reliable about things that happened to them. For example, everyone loved John Steinbeck's book Travels With Charley. Turns out he didn't travel alone, his wife kept meeting him, yet she was never mentioned in the book. Steinbeck didn't go to all the places he mentioned, nor did he meet all the people he said he met. In other words, Travels With Charley is fiction, or at least half-fiction. As for Three Cups of Tea, I think that philanthropists and humanitarians are even less forthcoming about what they do. I guess this guy did build a couple of schools in Afghanistan, but a self-promoting humanitarian is not someone I have a great deal of trust or belief in. I lived for six years in Africa and I've been to Africa numerous times since then. People build schools for their own reasons - not to improve a country.

The people I've known who've done great things of that type - you know, building hospitals, running schools - are very humble people. They give their lives to the project. Mi ~ Paul Theroux
Travel Alone quotes by Paul Theroux
I met an Australian who said he loved to travel alone. He talked about his job as we drank by the sea. When a student gets it, when it first breaks across his face, it's so fucking beautiful, he told me. I nodded, moved, though I'd never taught anyone a single thing. What do you teach, I asked him. Rollerblading, he explained. ~ Jenny Offill
Travel Alone quotes by Jenny Offill
Try and travel alone, or - if you are married - with your spouse. It will be harder work, no one will be looking after you, but this is the only way of truly leaving your country. Group travel is just a disguised way of pretending to go abroad, where you speak your own language, obey the leader of the pack, and concern yourself more with the internal gossip of the group than with the place you are visiting. ~ Paulo Coelho
Travel Alone quotes by Paulo Coelho
The first rule of travel is that you should always go with someone you love, which is why I travel alone. ~ Andrew O'Hagan
Travel Alone quotes by Andrew O'Hagan
Travel, travel often, and travel more. Travel is the best way to appreciate your life. ~ Abhishek Kumar
Travel Alone quotes by Abhishek Kumar
Any man who was a man could travel alone. ~ Jack London
Travel Alone quotes by Jack London
Loneliness, tenderness, high society, notoriety, you fight for the throne and you travel alone. ~ Bob Dylan
Travel Alone quotes by Bob Dylan
It might be better if we travel alone today, ~ Erin Hunter
Travel Alone quotes by Erin Hunter
If the traveler cannot find master or friend to go with him, let him travel alone rather than with a fool for company. ~ Gautama Buddha
Travel Alone quotes by Gautama Buddha
When I finally went to Ireland, I had to go. It was 1993. My father was finally too old to travel alone, and he asked me to take him home. When an old man asks you to take him home, you have to do it. ~ John Patrick Shanley
Travel Alone quotes by John Patrick Shanley
There are no guarantees with finally being honest and coming clean with people. Sometimes you don't win love back. Sometimes you lose the love you had. Sometimes you crush people that cared. Sometimes you break apart families. Sometimes you lose your career. Sometimes you lose your way of life. Sometimes you end up worse off than you were before. However, you walk away with a heart free from lies, regret and you have closure. Within time, you find yourself in a life that is far from the prison you once lived in. This type of freedom is the scariest road you will ever travel. However, it is the road God will never let you travel alone. ~ Shannon L. Alder
Travel Alone quotes by Shannon L. Alder
A part of her could imagine being happy in her solitude. She could work and read and travel alone. It could be a lovely life, in a way. ~ Andrea Dunlop
Travel Alone quotes by Andrea Dunlop
In the pursuit of knowledge, no one should travel alone ~ C.S. Woolley
Travel Alone quotes by C.S. Woolley
The steward just asked me if I was not afraid to travel alone, and I said, Why, it is life. ~ Emily Hahn
Travel Alone quotes by Emily Hahn
If you travel alone, you can probably go faster. But the journey will never be as rewarding, and you probably won't be able to go as far. ~ John C. Maxwell
Travel Alone quotes by John C. Maxwell
You see, though we travel together, we travel alone. ~ Madeleine L'Engle
Travel Alone quotes by Madeleine L'Engle
When you travel alone, no one knows who you are, there's no predetermined idea about how you should act, you are free, and you can be your true self. Every morning you are liberated to create your identity as you truly want it to be. ~ Sean Michael Hayes
Travel Alone quotes by Sean Michael Hayes
Those who would see wonderful things must often be ready to travel alone. ~ Henry Van Dyke
Travel Alone quotes by Henry Van Dyke
If you want to travel fast, travel alone; if you want to travel far, travel together. ~ Lois J. Zachary
Travel Alone quotes by Lois J. Zachary
One travels more usefully when alone, because he reflects more. ~ Thomas Jefferson
Travel Alone quotes by Thomas Jefferson
When I'm writing, I like to travel alone. If you really want to find out about a place, you need to be as free as possible to be spontaneous. You also need to be lonely, because loneliness is a great teacher, too. ~ Paul Theroux
Travel Alone quotes by Paul Theroux
Don't travel alone ... meet up with others who are traveling also on the path of change, you can learn from each other a lot and together carry more learning experiences (social learning and collective intelligence). -Nadia Gabriela Dresscher ~ Lambert Of Maastricht
Travel Alone quotes by Lambert Of Maastricht
Because of my capacity for listening to strangers' tales, or the details of their lives, my patience with their food and their crotchets, my curiosity that borders on nosiness, I am told that anyone traveling with me experiences an unbelievable tedium, and this is why I choose to travel alone. ~ Paul Theroux
Travel Alone quotes by Paul Theroux
I was a little doubtful about the propriety of going to the Mammoth Cave without a gentleman escort, but if two ladies travel alone they must have the courage of men. ~ Maria Mitchell
Travel Alone quotes by Maria Mitchell
As a fiction writer, all I need is a laptop, and when I'm not teaching, I travel as much as I can, applying for every research grant and overseas gig I hear of, then trying to extend those trips as far as the stipends will go. I love to travel alone. ~ Molly Antopol
Travel Alone quotes by Molly Antopol
Travel alone if you must.
The worst person to have with you is someone who isn't equally enchanted with the view. ~ Sama Akbar
Travel Alone quotes by Sama Akbar
It may seem to you that your life is over now. Your future without the person you love is no future at all.
Death is a head-on collision with your plans.
But everything in life
the gold fillings of your teeth, the cotton of your sheets, the air you breathe, all the food you will ever eat
everything there is was born from a collision.
Inside every single thing that lives is a debt to a distant star that died.
Nothing new is ever created without one thing colliding into another.
And something new is created when the person you love dies.
Because they are not the only ones who die: you die, too. The person you were when you were with them is gone just as surely as they are.
This is what you should know about losing somebody you love. They do not travel alone. You go with them. ~ Augusten Burroughs
Travel Alone quotes by Augusten Burroughs
Only by going alone in silence, without baggage, can one truly get into the heart of the wilderness. All other travel is mere dust and hotels and baggage and chatter. ~ John Muir
Travel Alone quotes by John Muir
Dancing with the Devil is a lot more fun than dancing alone. ~ Trevor Parks
Travel Alone quotes by Trevor Parks
Dreams are meant to be pursued, not postponed. ~ Suzanne Van Der Veeken
Travel Alone quotes by Suzanne Van Der Veeken
The only thing I have room for in this head of mine right now is the firm belief that fate absolutely exists. Fate ... soul mates ... time travel ... you name it. It all exists. Because that's what her kiss feels like. Existence. ~ Colleen Hoover
Travel Alone quotes by Colleen Hoover
Everyone experiences the feelings of sadness and loneliness. We might rue our lack of companionship, but some people present a desperate need for aloneness. Being alone allows a person to think, imagine, and take in nature. Because being alone is essential for specific human actions, similar to all other aspects of life, it is a gift. ~ Kilroy J. Oldster
Travel Alone quotes by Kilroy J. Oldster
Saying goodbye to Nina is both bittersweet and beautiful. After six-plus years together, the entire cast and crew of The Vampire Diaries has reached a level of closeness that I don't think any of us ever expected. Nina is excited to spread her wings, get some rest, travel the world and also take it by storm, and we support her a thousand-fold. We will miss Nina and the four hundred characters she played, but we look forward to the insane and exciting challenge of continuing to tell stories of our Salvatore Brothers and our much-loved and gifted ensemble. ~ Julie Plec
Travel Alone quotes by Julie Plec
I hope you spend the rest of your miserable, immortal life suffering. I hope you spend it alone. I hope you live with regret and guilt in your heart and never find a way to endure it. ~ Sarah J. Maas
Travel Alone quotes by Sarah J. Maas
I find there is a quality to being alone that is incredibly precious. Life rushes back into the void, richer, more vivid, fuller than before. ~ Anne Morrow Lindbergh
Travel Alone quotes by Anne Morrow Lindbergh
Stop waiting for life to show up. You don't live life by waiting for it to come to you; you live through actions. You want to travel? Then travel. You want to write? Then write. You want to live? Then live. Your life is in no one's hands but your own. If you want to do something, no one is stopping you except yourself. There isn't going to be a perfect moment, time, or opportunity: there is only now. You've been waiting for a sign? Here it is: to truly live, you actually have to participate. Get up and get going. Now. ~ Avina Celeste
Travel Alone quotes by Avina Celeste
I think there are things that aren't represented in movies that are a big part of everyone's life. We romanticize everything about people in movies. One of the things I don't like in movies is that people feel alone with their bodily functions in the real world, as if people in the movies don't do these things. ~ Charlie Kaufman
Travel Alone quotes by Charlie Kaufman
Some Christians try to go to heaven alone, in solitude; but believers are not compared to bears, or lions, or other animals that wander alone; but those who belong to Christ are sheep in this respect, that they love to get together. Sheep go in flocks, and so do God's people. ~ Charles Spurgeon
Travel Alone quotes by Charles Spurgeon
Somewhere among the commotion I grew rather depressed. The depression stayed with me for over a year; it was like an animal, a well-defined, spatially localizable thing. I would wake up, open my eyes, listen-is it here or isn't it? No sign of it. Perhaps it's asleep. Perhaps it will leave me alone today. Carefully, very carefully, I get out of bed. All is quiet. I go to the kitchen, start breakfast. Not a sound. TV-Good Morning America, David what's-his-name, a guy I can't stand. I eat and watch the guests. Slowly the food fills my stomach and gives me strength. Now a quick excursion to the bathroom, and out for my morning walk-and here she is, my faithful depression: "Did you think you could leave without me?" I had often warned my students not to identify with their work. I told them, "if you want to achieve something, if you want to write a book, paint a picture, be sure that the center of your existence if somewhere else and that it's solidly grounded; only then will you be able to keep your cool and laugh at the attacks that are bound to come." I myself had followed this advice in the past, but now I was alone, sick with some unknown affliction; my private life was in a mess, and I was without a defense. I often wished I had never written that fucking book. ~ Paul Karl Feyerabend
Travel Alone quotes by Paul Karl Feyerabend
Your wound, your silly little wound! That's your real love, Leo, that wound, the one true love of your life! I know how it will be, even if we tried, even if we managed to build something all over again. The music too, that would be no different. Even if they'd accepted you tonight, even if you became celebrated in this town, you'd destroy it all, you'd destroy everything, pull it all down around you just as you did before. And all because of that wound. Me, the music, we're neither of us anything more to you than mistresses
you seek consolation from. You'll always go back to your one real love. To that wound! And you know what makes me so angry? Leo, are you listening to me? Your wound, it's nothing special, nothing special at all. In this town alone, I know there are many people with far worse. And yet they carry on, every one of them, with far greater courage than you ever did. They go on with their lives. They become something worthwhile. But you, Leo, look at you. Always tending your wound. ~ Kazuo Ishiguro
Travel Alone quotes by Kazuo Ishiguro
There are only two reasons to sit in the back row of an airplane: Either you have diarrhea, or you're anxious to meet people who do. ~ Henry A. Kissinger
Travel Alone quotes by Henry A. Kissinger
Tell someone a story, and you capture their imagination. Make someone laugh, and you capture their friendship. Bring a tear to their eye with poignant grace, and you capture their heart. But never, never attempt to capture someone's spirit. That is theirs, and theirs alone. ~ Pen
Travel Alone quotes by Pen
Alone, he saw the slanting waves roll in,
Each to its impotent annihilation
In a long wash of foam, until the sound
Become for him a warning and a torture,
Like a malign reproof reiterating
In vain its cold and only sound of doom. ~ Edwin Arlington Robinson
Travel Alone quotes by Edwin Arlington Robinson
It is true that I once refused to eat haggis in Scotland and this did not sit well with the local population. ~ Rick Riordan
Travel Alone quotes by Rick Riordan
Travellers

We study to travel in life.
We study to travel in the light.

There is a large space of love for us.
There is a large space of death in the night.

We are travellers from world to world.
We are travellers from dream to dream.

We need a simple thing.
We need a space of beginning.

All the emotions of our trip
are the emotions of different lives.

We remind the travellers as dreams
which were made of an incredible light. ~ Ekaterina Yakovina
Travel Alone quotes by Ekaterina Yakovina
We wish nothing, save to be alone and to learn, and to feel as if with each day our sight were growing sharper than the hawk's and clearer than rock crystal. ~ Ayn Rand
Travel Alone quotes by Ayn Rand
It may be broadly stated that ... of all animals kept for the recreation of mankind the horse is alone capable of exciting a passion that shall be absolutely hopeless. ~ Bret Harte
Travel Alone quotes by Bret Harte
I drive around on my scooter in Milan alone - we don't have bodyguards or anything like that. I am a fashion designer, not a celebrity, and although I get stopped for autographs and the like, I don't think I am famous. ~ Stefano Gabbana
Travel Alone quotes by Stefano Gabbana
Back then and later on when I was in NEU! and Harmonia I was too much preoccupied with my own music to be aware of the German music scene, let alone following it actively. But changes which were happening with S.o.S. (namely the development of individual ideas and the effort to distinguish from the Anglo- American rock patterns) also helped me recognize other musicians within my immediate vicinity. ~ Michael Rother
Travel Alone quotes by Michael Rother
The Lucky Ones
I wonder how much
of every 'I love you' ever spoken
is a sincere'I love you',
or more honestly,
"I desperately don't want to be alone. ~ Beryl Dov
Travel Alone quotes by Beryl Dov
Listen well, as I speak of my upsurge;
For I'm a lover, without a lover

I am a flame, without a combustion
I am a novice, without a mentor

I am a healer, without a wounded
I am a winner, without a trophy

I'm a captain, without a devotee
And above all, I'm alone – not lonely ~ Zubair Ahsan
Travel Alone quotes by Zubair Ahsan
You clearly are a remarkable man," she said, "to travel with such creatures. The rooster is much more than he seems, as is the alligator. But, of course, you know that." Homer ~ Homer Hickam
Travel Alone quotes by Homer Hickam
The way he's watching me makes me feel needed like no one's ever been able to make me feel. In a way, he makes me feel necessary. Like my existence alone is necessary for his survival. ~ Colleen Hoover
Travel Alone quotes by Colleen Hoover
How do you think I'd look on one of these temples?"
Etta laughed. "How would I look?"
"I couldn't bare the thought of even your face here, left alone, for only the jungle to admire." He shook his head. "Never. I'd never allow it. The only thing is to hire an artist to turn you into a figurehead for a ship, so some part of you will always be venturing out to sea where you belong. ~ Alexandra Bracken
Travel Alone quotes by Alexandra Bracken
And there he stood, all the fuck alone. Just like always. Just like he deserved. Just like it might be forever. ~ Laura Kaye
Travel Alone quotes by Laura Kaye
It was such ecstacy to dream, and dream - till you got a bite.

A scorpion bite. Then the first duty was to get up out of the grass and kill the scorpion; and the next to bathe the bitten place with alcohol or brandy; and the next to resolve to keep out of the grass in the future. Then came an adjournment to the bedchamber and the pastime of writing up the day's journal with one hand and the destruction of mosquitoes with the other - a whole community of them at a slap. Then, observing an enemy approaching - a hairy tarantula on stilts - why not set the spittoon on him? It is done, and the projecting ends of his paws give a luminous idea of the magnitude of his reach. Then to bed and become a promenade for a centipede with forty-two legs on a side and every foot hot enough to burn a whole through a raw-hide. More soaking with alcohol, and a resolution to examine the bed before entering it, in future. Then wait, and suffer, till all the mosquitoes in the neighborhood have crawled in under the bar, then slip out quickly, shut them in and sleep peacefully on the floor till morning. Meantime, it is comforting to curse the tropics in occasional wakeful intervals. ~ Mark Twain
Travel Alone quotes by Mark Twain
Could anyone really travel so far that they might not find their way home again? ~ Mary E. Pearson
Travel Alone quotes by Mary E. Pearson
Every mother needs a wife. Some mothers' wives are their mothers. Some mothers' wives are their husbands. Some mothers' wives are their friends and neighbors. Every working person needs someone to come home to and someone to come get them out of the home. Someone who asks questions about their day and maybe fixes them something to eat. Every mother needs a wife who takes care of her and helps her become a better mother. The women who have helped me have stood in my kitchen and shared their lives. They have made me feel better about working so hard because they work hard too. They are wonderful teachers and caretakers and my children's lives are richer because they are part of our family. The biggest lie and biggest crime is that we all do this alone and look down on people who don't. ~ Amy Poehler
Travel Alone quotes by Amy Poehler
Books never lied to me, never betrayed me, never left me alone and wondering what was wrong with me. ~ Michelle Zink
Travel Alone quotes by Michelle Zink
America for Me

'Tis fine to see the Old World and travel up and down
Among the famous palaces and cities of renown,
To admire the crumblyh castles and the statues and kings
But now I think I've had enough of antiquated things.

So it's home again, and home again, America for me!
My heart is turning home again and there I long to be,
In the land of youth and freedom, beyond the ocean bars,
Where the air is full of sunlight and the flag is full of stars.

Oh, London is a man's town, there's power in the air;
And Paris is a woman's town, with flowers in her hair;
And it's sweet to dream in Venice, and it's great to study Rome;
But when it comes to living there is no place like home.

I like the German fir-woods in green battalions drilled;
I like the gardens of Versailles with flashing foutains filled;
But, oh, to take your hand, my dear, and ramble for a day
In the friendly western woodland where Nature has her sway!

I know that Europe's wonderful, yet something seems to lack!
The Past is too much with her, and the people looking back.
But the glory of the Present is to make the Future free--
We love our land for what she is and what she is to be.

Oh, it's home again, and home again, America for me!
I want a ship that's westward bound to plough the rolling sea,
To the blessed Land of Room Enough, beyond the ocean bars,
Where th ~ Henry Van Dyke
