Kiaran tosses me his coat. "Here. There's a roll of bread for you in the inner pocket. You need to eat something."

The bread is wrapped in leaves that kept it dry. I gratefully murmur my thanks that Kiaran is so practical. Between the Morrigan's attacks and worrying over the Book, I didn't even notice how famished I was.

Kiaran gathers wood for a fire and I light it with my powers. A small bit of energy I'm willing to risk because I'm so bloody tired and I've never seen Kiaran look this rough, either.

Now you know how I feel, I think wryly as I move to sit near the flames. No invulnerable, shining fae skin. No immediate healing. Just the deep bone-tiredness of mortality.

Kiaran sits opposite, as far from me as possible. The scent of burning wood must mask the scent of my blood, at least a little. His eyes flicker to me in a quick, controlled assessment. "Your wounds need binding."

I can't help but smile. "First the bread, now my wounds. Is this the Kiaran MacKay way of fussing over someone?"

"I don't fuss," Kiaran says. "I give stern instructions, like: Bind your goddamn wounds."

"I don't like overbearing men."

His mouth quirks into a sly smile. "And yet I love assertive, stubborn women."

I laugh in surprise. "God, I adore you. ~ Elizabeth May
Stubborn Women quotes by Elizabeth May
She shoots." He restrained his smile as he turned back to Lance and nodded in her direction. "I needed some sort of defense."
Lance wasn't amused. He wiped his hand over his face and muttered something about "damn stubborn women."
Braden completely agreed with him. ~ Lora Leigh
Stubborn Women quotes by Lora Leigh
There were too many idiot men in the world, to her way of thinking. And most of them ended up bumping up against stubborn women. ~ Nora Roberts
Stubborn Women quotes by Nora Roberts
In a new issue of Esquire magazine, they revealed that before he was married to Teresa Heinz, Senator John Kerry dated Morgan Fairchild, Michelle Phillips, Catherine Oxenberg and Dana Delany. Finally a Democratic presidential candidate with good taste in women. ~ Jay Leno
Stubborn Women quotes by Jay Leno
If God wanted women to be treated equally to men, he'd have given them penises. ~ Zach Braff
Stubborn Women quotes by Zach Braff
You dig me, don't you? A little boy, he can play like he's a fireman or a cop ~ Tom Robbins
Stubborn Women quotes by Tom Robbins
Imagine that we're new and you're trying to impress me, because at the rate you're going, soon that will become someone else's right. ~ Crystal Woods
Stubborn Women quotes by Crystal Woods
This book is written from a changing town in Virginia, but this class of mine, these people
the ones who smell like an ashtray in the checkout line, devour a carton of Little Debbies at a sitting, and praise Jesus for a truck with no spare tire
exist in every state in our nation. Maybe the next time we on the left encounter such seemingly self-screwing, stubborn, God-obsessed folks, we can be open to their trials, understand the complexity of their situation, even have enough solidarity to pop for a cheap retread tire out of our own pockets, simply because that would be the kind thing to do and surely would make the ghosts of Joe Hill, Eleanor Roosevelt, and Mohandas Gandhi smile. ~ Joe Bageant
Stubborn Women quotes by Joe Bageant
Well, and that's what really counts, isn't it? I've become one of those women who put a ton of work into looking OK. If I can just go on and make a beautiful corpse, I'll have the whole problem pretty well licked. ~ Jonathan Franzen
Stubborn Women quotes by Jonathan Franzen
ORESTES: Never shall I see you again.

ELECTRA: Nor I see myself in your eyes.

ORESTES: This, the last time I'll talk with you ever.

ELECTRA: O my homeland, goodbye. Goodbye to you, women of home.

ORESTES: Most loyal of sisters, do you leave now?

ELECTRA: I leave with tears blurring all that I see. ~ Euripides
Stubborn Women quotes by Euripides
There are very few men and women, I suspect, who cooked and marketed their way through the past war without losing forever some of the nonchalant extravagance of the Twenties. They will feel, until their final days on earth, a kind of culinary caution: butter, no matter how unlimited, is a precious substance not lightly to be wasted; meats, too, and eggs, and all the far-brought spices of the world, take on a new significance, having once been so rare. And that is good, for there can be no more shameful carelessness than with the food we eat for life itself When we exist without thought or thanksgiving we are not men, but beasts. ~ Mary Francis Kennedy Fisher
Stubborn Women quotes by Mary Francis Kennedy Fisher
Shame infuses women's most intimate experiences, from menstruation to sex. Women who internalize objectified ideas about their bodies often feel intense disgust with bodily functions – even pregnancy. Objectification and self-surveillance also put women at higher risk of sexual dysfunction. Rather than enjoying sex or engaging with their partners to ensure sexual satisfaction, women, distracted by what their bodies smell, feel, and look like, become unable to think about their own pleasure. ~ Soraya Chemaly
Stubborn Women quotes by Soraya Chemaly
In our time women can demonstrate prowess in a thousand ways. Long ago the great Princess Sun of Ping fought for her father, the August Sovereign. At her funeral, His Majesty called for the trumpets and drums to be sounded, an honor reserved for men. My dear, from this day you must dress her as a boy. Give her an education worthy of her own determination. ~ Shan Sa
Stubborn Women quotes by Shan Sa
Current fashion magazines have become a form of entertainment, and in some cases bizarre art, showing women in outfits that the everyday woman would never wear. The fashion system has not and will never even attempt to teach us the skills and tools to honor our true nature and our unique physical traits so we can express our true beauty. ~ Carol Tuttle
Stubborn Women quotes by Carol Tuttle
Of course I know what she means. To make art in fandom is to follow your passion at the risk of never being taken seriously. I've written dozens of fics-put them together and you'd have several novels-but who knows what a college admissions officer will think of that as a pastime. Where does 12,000 Tumbler followers rate in relation to a spot in the National Honor Society in their minds? Every week I get anonymous messages in my inbox telling me I should write a real book. Well, haven't I already? What makes what I do different from "real writing"? Is it that I don't use original characters? I guess that makes every Hardy Boys edition, every Star Wars book, every spinoff, sequel, fairy-tale re-telling, historical romance, comic book reboot, and the music Hamilton "not real writing". Or is it that a real book is something printed, that you can hold in your hand, not something you write on the internet? Or is "real writing" something you sell in a store, not give away for free? No, I know it's none of these things. It's merely this: "real writing" is done by serious people, whereas fanfiction is written by weirdos, teenagers, degenerates, and women. ~ Britta Lundin
Stubborn Women quotes by Britta Lundin
When a man marries again, it is because he adored his first wife. Women try their luck; men risk theirs." "Narborough wasn't perfect," cried the old lady. ~ Oscar Wilde
Stubborn Women quotes by Oscar Wilde
Without anything being said, there were no women at our lunches. Not that we were talking pussy. Or not much. But it was a chaps thing. Seasoned observers all, we set the world, such as it was, to rights, offsetting our intellectual know-how with truly wondrous flights of fancy. It was at the time of the ruinous yet avoidable civil war in Angola, in which far too many people died, or, in our immortal parlance, became 'deadified.' It might have been anyone - actually, I [Christopher Hitchens] am sure it was our poet friend Craig Raine - who came up with the appalling yet unforgettable idea that there is a design flaw in the female form, and that the breasts and the buttocks really ought to be on the same side. For myself, I have oft been perplexed as to why our heads are where, in a truly just world, our penises really ought to be, and my arse is not located between my chin and my nose, allowing me mellifluously to talk out of it. ~ Craig Brown
Stubborn Women quotes by Craig Brown
…Sometimes this constraint would be felt by the whole tribe, numbering some dozens of grown men and women. It sprang from the sense they had (and their senses are very sharp and much in advance of their vocabulary) that whatever they were doing crumbled like ashes in their hands. An old woman making a basket, a boy skinning a sheep, would be singing or crooning contentedly at their work, when Orlando would come into the camp, fling herself down by the fire and gaze into the flames. She need not even look at them, and yet they felt, here is someone who doubts; (we make a rough-and-ready translation from the gipsy language) here is someone who does not do the thing for the sake of doing; nor looks for looking's sake; here is someone who believes neither in sheep-skin nor basket; but sees (here they looked apprehensively about the tent) something else. Then a vague but most unpleasant feeling would begin to work in the boy and in the old woman. They broke their withys; they cut their fingers. A great rage filled them. They wished Orlando would leave the tent and never come near them again. ~ Virginia Woolf
Stubborn Women quotes by Virginia Woolf
When I lived on the Bluff in Yokohama I spend a good deal of my leisure in the company of foreign residents, at their banquets and balls. At close range I was not particularly struck by their whiteness, but from a distance I could distinguish them quite clearly from the Japanese. Among the Japanese were ladies who were dressed in gowns no less splendid than the foreigners', and whose skin was whiter than theirs. Yet from across the room these ladies, even one alone, would stand out unmistakably from amongst a group of foreigners. For the Japanese complexion, no matter how white, is tinged by a slight cloudiness. These women were in no way reticent about powdering themselves. Every bit of exposed flesh - even their backs and arms - they covered with a thick coat of white. Still they could not efface the darkness that lay below their skin. It was as plainly visible as dirt at the bottom of a pool of pure water. Between the fingers, around the nostrils, on the nape of the neck, along the spine - about these places especially, dark, almost dirty, shadows gathered. But the skin of the Westerners, even those of a darker complexion, had a limpid glow. Nowhere were they tainted by this gray shadow. From the tops of their heads to the tips of their fingers the whiteness was pure and unadulterated. Thus it is that when one of us goes among a group of Westerners it is like a grimy stain on a sheet of white paper. The sight offends even our own eyes and leaves none too pleasant a feeling ~ Junichiro Tanizaki
Stubborn Women quotes by Junichiro Tanizaki
I disregard the proportions, the measures, the tempo of the ordinary world. I refuse to live in the ordinary world as ordinary women. To enter ordinary relationships. I want ecstasy. I am a neurotic - in the sense that I live in my world. I will not adjust myself to the world. I am adjusted to myself. ~ Anais Nin
Stubborn Women quotes by Anais Nin
Women, as mothers of the earth, deserve the utmost respect. ~ Orlando Bloom
Stubborn Women quotes by Orlando Bloom
Reliable office staff come in the shape of mature married women working from 9.30 to 3.30 (inside school hours) during which they will do more than the 9-5ers. ~ Chris Brasher
Stubborn Women quotes by Chris Brasher
When he'd been younger and first starting to feel the urge to rut with females - and before he'd grown up to the point where many of the opposite sex found him irresistible - he'd tried to court girls by bringing them meat and shiny things. It turned out he'd scared them.
"Most women and girls," Dmitri had told him, "don't know what to do when a man drops a hunk of raw meat in their hands. ~ Nalini Singh
Stubborn Women quotes by Nalini Singh
It's important that young people know about the struggles we faced to get to the point we are today. Only then will they appreciate the hard-won freedom of blacks in this country. ~ Amelia Boynton Robinson
Stubborn Women quotes by Amelia Boynton Robinson
In those rare individual cases where women approach genius they also approach masculinity. ~ Otto Weininger
Stubborn Women quotes by Otto Weininger
And then I had ridden from the east in the glory of a warrior, which is what I am and always have been. All my life I have followed the path of the sword. Given a choice, and I have been given many choices, I would rather draw a blade than settle an argument with words, for that is what a warrior does, but most men and women are not fighters. ~ Bernard Cornwell
Stubborn Women quotes by Bernard Cornwell
Equality is not a concept. It's not something we should be striving for. It's a necessity. Equality is like gravity. We need it to stand on this earth as men and women, and the misogyny that is in every culture is not a true part of the human condition. It is life out of balance, and that imbalance is sucking something out of the soul of every man and woman who's confronted with it. We need equality. Kinda now. ~ Joss Whedon
Stubborn Women quotes by Joss Whedon
Women of my age in America are at the mercy of two powerful and antagonistic traditions. The first is the ultradomestic fifties with its powerful cult of motherhood; the other is the strident feminism of the seventies with its attempt to clone the male competitive model ... Only in America are these ideologies pushed to extremes. ~ Sylvia Ann Hewlett
Stubborn Women quotes by Sylvia Ann Hewlett
Yes," she said in a voice squeaky with fright. She was younger and still attractive then; she hadn't yet allowed her body to engorge. I have noted since that some kinds of men like to bully beautiful women. ~ Margaret Atwood
Stubborn Women quotes by Margaret Atwood
There must be a million women throwing themselves at you. How are you not married with a boatload of kids by now?"

His smile spread impossibly wide. "I hadn't met you yet. ~ Aly Martinez
Stubborn Women quotes by Aly Martinez
It is all too easy to draw conclusions and make sweeping judgments about millions of Muslim women based on fleeting television images. That is not right. ~ Queen Rania Of Jordan
Stubborn Women quotes by Queen Rania Of Jordan
Her loyalty to Yahweh prompts her to challenge the religious status quo and lead others into a whole new realm of allegiance to Yahweh that carries early hints of the teachings of Jesus. ~ Carolyn Custis James
Stubborn Women quotes by Carolyn Custis James
Place your truth on my hips. Don't tell me who you are. Show me with your sincerity, let me see the helplessness in your eyes, wrap your irreverence around me. I've been afraid. My freedom has been mistaken for frivolousness, my sexuality for carelessness. Double standards imposed with hypocritical fingers and incurious hearts. I've relinquished myself to the wrong ideologies. I'm tired of having to cover my vulnerability to protect others from feeling theirs.

Expose me, penetrate me with broad philosophies, let us collide recklessly with freedom. Steal my wild heart, but do not ask me to live under an umbrella when I like being soaked by the rain. ~ Jacqueline Simon Gunn
Stubborn Women quotes by Jacqueline Simon Gunn
Should women be on any pills besides birth control? We should just give them all sugar pills for everything, they're so suggestible. ~ Adam Carolla
Stubborn Women quotes by Adam Carolla
Your very own sister may take your husband away and your husband may be the ticket for economic survival. ~ Frederick Lenz
Stubborn Women quotes by Frederick Lenz
The Wind Will Carry Us

In my night, so brief, alas
The wind is about to meet the leaves.
My night so brief is filled with devastating anguish
Hark! Do you hear the whisper of the shadows?
This happiness feels foreign to me.
I am accustomed to despair.
Hark! Do you hear the whisper of the shadows?
There, in the night, something is happening
The moon is red and anxious.
And, clinging to this roof
That could collapse at any moment,
The clouds, like a crowd of mourning women,
Await the birth of the rain.
One second, and then nothing.
Behind this window,
The night trembles
And the earth stops spinning.
Behind this window, a stranger
Worries about me and you.
You in your greenery,
Lay your hands – those burning memories –
On my loving hands.
And entrust your lips, replete with life's warmth,
To the touch of my loving lips
The wind will carry us!
The wind will carry us! ~ Forugh Farrokhzad
Stubborn Women quotes by Forugh Farrokhzad
The men know that black women are women at the very least; magical at their zenith and biblical at the core, being with a black woman was as sacred as dousing oneself in holy water. That ~ Bernice L. McFadden
Stubborn Women quotes by Bernice L. McFadden
But the main problem with our marriages was not that our husbands wouldn't share the housework but that we were unbelievably irritable young women and our husbands irritated us unbelievably. - The D Word ~ Nora Ephron
Stubborn Women quotes by Nora Ephron
Women's inclusion in the economy is one of the most important issues in Israel. ~ Ofra Strauss
Stubborn Women quotes by Ofra Strauss
When I started Victoria Principal Products, there were 22 full-time employees - they were all women. ~ Victoria Principal
Stubborn Women quotes by Victoria Principal
Men and women who sell their birthright for a mess of pottage will tell you that their demise began with something small, with some seemingly insignificant breach of integrity that escalated. The little things do matter. It is not possible to profess righteousness while flirting with sin. ~ Sheri L. Dew
Stubborn Women quotes by Sheri L. Dew
In the music industry, intelligence in women is undervalued. ~ Bat For Lashes
Stubborn Women quotes by Bat For Lashes
Men like to provide for women and their families. It's in their DNA. I'm obviously no scientist, but I bet if you could hear a Y-chromosome talk, it would say, 'I want to provide and hunt.' When the woman is the primary breadwinner, it's going against nature. I'm not saying that it's bad or wrong, I'm just saying that it can feel off. ~ Patti Stanger
Stubborn Women quotes by Patti Stanger
Equal pay for equal work continues to be seen as applying to equal pay for men and women in the same occupation, while the larger point of continuing relevance in our day is that some occupations have depressed wages because women are the chief employee. The former is a pattern of sex discrimination, the latter of institutionalized sexism. ~ Alice S. Rossi
Stubborn Women quotes by Alice S. Rossi
Women. Bane. Yeah. ~ Artemis Crow
Stubborn Women quotes by Artemis Crow
The Roman Empire, Vikings, British, Spanish, Portuguese,... all raped women, but it always seems worse when done to us. ~ Daniel Marques
Stubborn Women quotes by Daniel Marques
Women were quite terrifying until I was older. I think that's partly down to confidence. ~ Jimmy Carr
Stubborn Women quotes by Jimmy Carr
They are inked all over my skin;
The words I wish that I could have said,
The things I wish that I could have changed,
The wounds, the scars, the struggles, and all the names of those who once did me wrong.
The way I have it all written on my body has strengthened that soul of mine within,
It makes me unstoppable and much more proud of my journey, how far I've become, and of the woman I grew up to be… ~ Samiha Totanji
Stubborn Women quotes by Samiha Totanji
Although men were strong like rocks, any stone could crack. Women were more like water. They nurtured life and could shape the hardest granite through unrelenting determination. ~ Michael J. Sullivan
Stubborn Women quotes by Michael J. Sullivan
I wasn't sure where to go from here. From the outside it seemed so straightforward. Leave, run away, start again. Julia had a lot going for her. She could have a whole new life. It clearly isn't this straightforward as there are thousands of women like Julia who don't leave or run away or start again. I would never really understand the complexities of Julia's violent relationship but one thing was very clear. When she said that Andy had nobody else, what she was really saying was that she didn't have anyone else. She was alone and, however difficult and abusive her relationship was, she clearly felt that it was all she had. ~ Benjamin Daniels
Stubborn Women quotes by Benjamin Daniels
Redheaded women buck like goats. ~ James Joyce
Stubborn Women quotes by James Joyce
You know how many stunning women told me they can't stand a good-looking man? ... Women feel secure with an ugly guy because a man in bad shape isn't gonna cheat. ~ Jackie Mason
