Why they were loaded with bags of beans and peas and anything else they happened to pick up when they were still some distance away from the street where the first blind man and his wife lived, for that is where they are going, is a question that could only occur to someone who has never in his life suffered shortages. ~ Jose Saramago
Frugality quotes by Jose Saramago
Frugality is a handsome income. ~ Desiderius Erasmus
Frugality quotes by Desiderius Erasmus
To live without that enchantment of beauty is to interpret frugality and simple living with a puritan literalism ~ John Lane
Frugality quotes by John Lane
Can anything be so elegant as to have few wants, and to serve them one's self? ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson
Frugality quotes by Ralph Waldo Emerson
Eat it up, make it do, wear it out. ~ Calvin Coolidge
Frugality quotes by Calvin Coolidge
Hope drives us to invent new fixes for old messes, which in turn create ever more dangerous messes. Hope elects the politician with the biggest empty promise; and as any stockbroker or lottery seller knows, most of us will take a slim hope over prudent and predictable frugality. Hope, like greed, fuels the engine of capitalism. ~ Margaret Atwood
Frugality quotes by Margaret Atwood
Search out the wisdom of nature, there is depth in all her doings; she seemeth prodigal of power, yet her rules are the maxims of frugality. ~ Martin Farquhar Tupper
Frugality quotes by Martin Farquhar Tupper
(P162) The great blessing of private property, then, is that people can benefit from their own industry and insulate themselves from the negative effects of others' actions. It is like a set of invisible mirrors that surround individuals, households or firms, reflecting back on them the consequences of their acts. The industrious will reap the benefits of their industry, the frugal the consequences of their frugality; the improvidant and the profligate likewise. They receive their due, which is to say they experience justice as a matter of routine. Private property institutionalises justice. This is its great virtue, perhaps dwarfing all others. We may say with the economists that private property "internalizes the externalities," or with the philosophers that it gives rise to "social justice. ~ Tom Bethell
Frugality quotes by Tom Bethell
The names of virtues, with their precepts, were:
1.Temperance. Eat not do dullness; drink not to elevation.
2.Silence. Speak not but what may benefit others or yourself; avoid trifling conversation.
3.Order. Let all your things have their places; let each part of your business have its time.
4.Resolution: Resolve to perform what you ought; perform without fail what you resolve.
5.Frugality. Make no expense but to do good to others or yourself; i.e., waste nothing.
6.Industry. Lose no time; be always employ'd in something useful; cut off all unnecessary actions.
7.Sincerity. Use no hurtful deceit; think innocently and justly, and, if you speak, speak accordingly.
8.Justice. Wrong none by doing injuries, or omitting the benefits that are your duty.
9.Moderation. Avoid extreams; forbear resenting injuries so much as you think they deserve.
10.Cleanliness. Tolerate no uncleanliness in body, cloths, or habitation.
11.Tranquillity. Be not disturbed at trifles, or at accidents common or unavoidable.
12.Chastity. Rarely use venery but for health or offspring, never to dullness, weakness, or the injury of your own or another's peace or reputation.
13.Humility. Imitate Jesus and Socrates. ~ Benjamin Franklin
Frugality quotes by Benjamin Franklin
I'm a practitioner of elegant frugality. I don't feel comfortable telling other people what to do, so I just try and lead by example. ~ Amory Lovins
Frugality quotes by Amory Lovins
The worst kind of shame is being ashamed of frugality or poverty. ~ Livy
Frugality quotes by Livy
It's interesting that penny-pinching is an accepted defense for toxic food habits, when frugality so rarely rules other consumer domains. The majority of Americans buy bottled drinking water, for example, even though water runs from the faucets at home for a fraction of the cost, and government quality standards are stricter for tap water than for bottled. At any income level, we can be relied upon for categorically unnecessary purchases: portable-earplug music instead of the radio; extra-fast Internet for leisure use; heavy vehicles to transport light loads; name-brand clothing instead of plainer gear. "Economizing," as applied to clothing, generally means looking for discount name brands instead of wearing last year's clothes again. The dread of rearing unfashionable children is understandable. But as a priority, "makes me look cool" has passed up "keeps arteries functional" and left the kids huffing and puffing (fashionably) in the dust. ~ Barbara Kingsolver
Frugality quotes by Barbara Kingsolver
I need more frugality. I wonder where I can buy some. ~ Jarod Kintz
Frugality quotes by Jarod Kintz
The children are innocent until proven guilty. For their sake, not ours, we must soldier on, muddling our way toward frugality, simplicity, liberty, community, until some kind of sane and rational balance is achieved between our ability to love and our cockeyed ambition to conquer and dominate everything in sight. No wonder the galaxies recede from us in every direction, fleeing at velocities that approach the speed of light. They are frightened. We humans are the Terror of the Universe. ~ Edward Abbey
Frugality quotes by Edward Abbey
No man, however benevolent, liberal, and wise, can use a large fortune so that it will do half as much good in the world as it would if it were divided into moderate sums and in the hands of workmen who had earned it by industry and frugality. The piling up of estates often does great and conspicuous good ... But no man does with accumulated wealth so much good as the same amount would do in many hands. ~ Rutherford B. Hayes
Frugality quotes by Rutherford B. Hayes
I have learned to seek my happiness by limiting my desires, rather than in attempting to satisfy them. ~ John Stuart Mill
Frugality quotes by John Stuart Mill
Working conditions for me have always been those of the monastic life: solitude and frugality. Except for frugality, they are contrary to my nature, so much so that work is a violence I do to myself. ~ Albert Camus
Frugality quotes by Albert Camus
Whatever thrift is, it is not avarice. Avarice is not generous; and, after all, it is the thrifty people who are generous. ~ Archibald Primrose, 5th Earl Of Rosebery
Frugality quotes by Archibald Primrose, 5th Earl Of Rosebery
Wealth can only be accumulated by the earnings of industry and the savings of frugality. ~ John Tyler
Frugality quotes by John Tyler
The great blessing of private property, then, is that people can benefit from their own industry and insulate themselves from the negative effects of others' actions. It is like a set of invisible mirrors that surround individuals, households or firms, reflecting back on them the consequences of their acts. The industrious will reap the benefits of their industry; the frugal the consequences of their frugality; the improvident and the profligate likewise. They receive their due, which is to say they experience justice as a matter of routine. ~ Tom Bethell
Frugality quotes by Tom Bethell
Bad men cannot make good citizens. It is when a people forget God that tyrants forge their chains. A vitiated state of morals, a corrupted public conscience, is incompatible with freedom. No free government, or the blessings of liberty, can be preserved to any people but by a firm adherence to justice, moderation, temperance, frugality, and virtue; and by a frequent recurrence to fundamental principles. ~ Patrick Henry
Frugality quotes by Patrick Henry
Mend your clothes and you may hold out this year. ~ George Herbert
Frugality quotes by George Herbert
Qualities not regulated run into their opposites. Economy before competence is meanness after it. Therefore economy is for the poor; the rich may dispense with it. ~ Christian Nestell Bovee
Frugality quotes by Christian Nestell Bovee
[T]he importance of piety and religion; of industry and frugality; of prudence, economy, regularity and an even government; all ... are essential to the well-being of a family. ~ Samuel Adams
Frugality quotes by Samuel Adams
If frugality were established in the state, and if our expenses were laid out to meet needs rather than superfluities of life, there might be fewer wants, and even fewer pleasures, but infinitely more happiness. ~ Oliver Goldsmith
Frugality quotes by Oliver Goldsmith
For Age and Want save while you may; No morning Sun lasts a whole day. ~ Benjamin Franklin
Frugality quotes by Benjamin Franklin
Acquire Riches by Industry and Frugality. ~ Benjamin Franklin
Frugality quotes by Benjamin Franklin
Frugality is one thing, avarice another. ~ Horace
Frugality quotes by Horace
But in the present day men cast off gentleness, and are all for being bold; they spurn frugality, and retain only extravagance; they discard humility, and aim only at being first. Therefore they shall surely perish. ~ Laozi
Frugality quotes by Laozi
1) Temperance ... drink not to elevation. (2) Silence ... avoid trifling conversations. (3) Order: Let all your things have their places ... (4) Resolution ... perform without fail what you resolve. (5) Frugality ... i.e. waste nothing. (6) Industry: Lose no time; be always employ'd ... (7) Sincerity: Use no hurtful deceit; think innocently ... (8) Justice: Wrong none by doing injuries ... (9) Moderation: Avoid extremes; forbear resenting ... (10) Cleanliness: Tolerate no uncleanliness in body ... (11) Tranquility: Be not disturbed at trifles ... (12) Chastity (13) Humility : Imitate Jesus ... ~ Benjamin Franklin
Frugality quotes by Benjamin Franklin
The purity of unison singing, unaffected by alien motives of musical techniques, the clarity, unspoiled by the attempt to give musical art an autonomy of its own apart from the words, the simplicity and frugality, the humaneness and warmth of this way of singing is the essence of all congregational singing. This, ~ Dietrich Bonhoeffer
Frugality quotes by Dietrich Bonhoeffer
The Bible warns us against greed and selfishness, it does encourage frugality and thrift. ~ Billy Graham
Frugality quotes by Billy Graham
I thank God, I have been able, by adopting Principles of strict Economy and Frugality, to keep my principal, I mean my Country-Estate, unimpaired. ~ George Mason
Frugality quotes by George Mason
I'm old enough to remember in the 1930s and the 1940s when thrift, frugality, was considered an important virtue. ~ Edmund Phelps
Frugality quotes by Edmund Phelps
We are not to judge thrift solely by the test of saving or spending. If one spends what he should prudently save, that certainly is to be deplored. But if one saves what he should prudently spend, that is not necessarily to be commended. A wise balance between the two is the desired end. ~ Owen D. Young
Frugality quotes by Owen D. Young
The Depression taught me what frugality means and the importance of not losing money. ~ Irving Kahn
Frugality quotes by Irving Kahn
The importation of foreigners into a country that has as many inhabitants as the present employments and provisions for subsistence will bear, will be in the end no increase of people, unless the new comers have more industry and frugality than the natives, and then they will provide more subsistence, and increase in the country; but they will gradually eat the natives out. Nor is it necessary to bring in foreigners to fill up any occasional vacancy in a country for such vacancy will soon be filled by natural generation. ~ Benjamin Franklin
Frugality quotes by Benjamin Franklin
Because of deep love, one is courageous. Because of frugality, one is generous. Because of not daring to be ahead of the world, one becomes the leader of the world. ~ Laozi
Frugality quotes by Laozi
Frugality is founded on the principal that all riches have limits. ~ Edmund Burke
Frugality quotes by Edmund Burke
Rome herself was no longer new. She had grown old and decrepit. The republic of Cicero had degenerated into the despotism of Caesar. Tyrant after tyrant had seized power at the price of much bloodshed. Devotion to family, hard work, and frugality had been replaced by an addiction to pleasure and power. A welfare state based on conquest and slave labor bought the loyalty of the mob with free bread and gladiator games. The people were all too ready to trade their liberty for creature comforts. ~ Marcellino D'Ambrosio
Frugality quotes by Marcellino D'Ambrosio
Frugality without creativity is deprivation. ~ Amy Dacyczyn
Frugality quotes by Amy Dacyczyn
Without industry and frugality, nothing will do; with them, everything. ~ Benjamin Franklin
Frugality quotes by Benjamin Franklin
I do have an interest in this book, which is for sale. (If you have bought it, dear reader, I thank you. If you have borrowed it, I honor your frugality. If you have stolen it, may it add to your confusion.) ~ Wendell Berry
Frugality quotes by Wendell Berry
Let us first of all frugality in government-peace and freedom we will have as a bonus. ~ Frederic Bastiat
Frugality quotes by Frederic Bastiat
What all this adds up to is the view that nature is there as a resource to be used by man for his self-interest and profit. But, frugality being a virtue, the resource should be "conserved" as much as possible. ~ George Lakoff
Frugality quotes by George Lakoff
Should my decease happen in Newcastle I desire that my remains may be laid near the south porch in Saint Andrews churchyard near the remains of my dear wife, and that the least possible expence may be laid out on my interment. Charles Avison ~ Charles Avison
Frugality quotes by Charles Avison
Frugality is enjoying the virtue of getting good value for every minute of your life energy and from everything you have the use of. ~ Vicki Robin
Frugality quotes by Vicki Robin
As boys should be educated with temperance, so the first greatest lesson that should be taught them is to admire frugality. It is by the exercise of this virtue alone they can ever expect to be useful members of society. ~ Oliver Goldsmith
Frugality quotes by Oliver Goldsmith
Consumerism has worked very hard, with the help of popular psychology ('Just do it!') to convince people that indulgence is good for you, whereas frugality is self-oppression. It ~ Yuval Noah Harari
Frugality quotes by Yuval Noah Harari
Being frugal doesn't mean slashing your spending or depriving yourself of things that you enjoy. It means knowing the value of a dollar and making every effort to spend it wisely. ~ Frank Sonnenberg
Frugality quotes by Frank Sonnenberg
Prosperity's right hand is industry and her left hand is frugality. ~ Samuel Johnson
Frugality quotes by Samuel Johnson
If war can indeed be turned into a relic, then the virtue of greed will recede further. From a given society's standpoint, one big upside of wanton material acquisition has traditionally been the way it drives technological progress-which, after all, helps keep societies strong. In the nineteenth century, Russia ans Germany had little choice about modernizing; in those days stasis invited conquest. But if societies no longer face conquest, breakneck technological advance is an offer they can refuse, and frugality a luxury people can afford. ~ Robert Wright
Frugality quotes by Robert Wright
The typical Anarchist, then, may be defined as follows: A man perceptible by the spirit of revolt under one or more of its forms, - opposition, investigation, criticism, innovation, - endowed with a strong love of liberty, egoistic or individualistic, and possessed of great curiosity, a keen desire to know. These traits are supplemented by an ardent love of others, a highly developed moral sensitiveness, a profound sentiment of justice, and imbued with missionary zeal." To the above characteristics, says Alvin F. Sanborn, must be added these sterling qualities: a rare love of animals, surpassing sweetness in all the ordinary relations of life, exceptional sobriety of demeanor, frugality and regularity, austerity, even, of living, and courage beyond compare.[2] ~ Emma Goldman
Frugality quotes by Emma Goldman
When I was growing up, my parents had created for my brother and me the perfect upper middle-class lifestyle. We had everything we needed, and most things we wanted. We took piano lessons. We went to summer camp. We swam at the local country club. We had college funds. And while what I should have learned from living a relatively privileged childhood was the value of hard work and frugality, what I learned instead was that money was not something with which I needed to be overly concerned. If and when I needed it, it would magically appear. Like a genie. ~ Jennifer McGaha
Frugality quotes by Jennifer McGaha
Consumerism sees the consumption of ever more products and services as a positive thing. It encourages people to treat themselves, spoil themselves, and even kill themselves slowly by overconsumption. Frugality is a disease to be cured. ~ Yuval Noah Harari
Frugality quotes by Yuval Noah Harari
A love of the republic in a democracy is a love of the democracy, as the latter is that of equality. A love of the democracy is likewise that of frugality. Since every individual ought here to enjoy the same happiness, and the same advantages, they should consequently taste the same pleasures and form the same hopes, which cannot be expected but from a general frugality. ~ Baron De Montesquieu
Frugality quotes by Baron De Montesquieu
By sowing frugality we reap liberty, a golden harvest. ~ Agesilaus II
Frugality quotes by Agesilaus II
There is a wise old saying 'Eat it up, wear it out, make it do, or do without'. Thrift is a practice of not wasting anything. Some people are able to get by because of the absence of expense. They have their shoes resoled, they patch, they mend, they sew, and they save money. They avoid installment buying, and make purchases only after saving enough to pay cash, thus avoiding interest charges. Frugality means to practice careful economy. ~ James E. Faust
Frugality quotes by James E. Faust
Frugality may be termed the daughter of Prudence, the sister of Temperance, and the parent of Liberty. ~ Samuel Johnson
Frugality quotes by Samuel Johnson
Patience and tenacity are worth more than twice their weight of cleverness. ~ Thomas Huxley
Frugality quotes by Thomas Huxley
Associate yourself with men of good quality, if you esteem your reputation. Be not apt to relate news, if you know not the truth thereof. Speak no evil of the absent, for it is unjust. Undertake not what you cannot perform, but be careful to keep your promise. There is but one straight course, and that is to seek truth, and pursue it steadily. Nothing but harmony, honesty, industry and frugality are necessary to make us a great and happy nation. ~ George Washington
Frugality quotes by George Washington
Frugal is an old-fashioned, mostly unused word and frugality is is an old-fashioned mostly unused virtue that has been waiting for hard times to come back. The Scots have another word for it - canny.

Keith Smith, Hard Times Handbook, 1984 ~ Keith Smith
Frugality quotes by Keith Smith
I am strongly drawn to a frugal life and am often oppressively aware that I am engrossing an undue amount of the labor of my fellow men. ~ Albert Einstein
Frugality quotes by Albert Einstein
Without this tremendous passion for power, influence, and advantage which money gives, how could nature develop the highest type of man? Without this infinite longing, whence would come the discipline which industry, perseverance, tact, sagacity, and frugality give? ~ Orison Swett Marden
Frugality quotes by Orison Swett Marden
Thirteen virtues necessary for true success: temperance, silence, order, resolution, frugality, industry, sincerity, justice, moderation, cleanliness, tranquility, chastity, and humility. ~ Benjamin Franklin
Frugality quotes by Benjamin Franklin
She thought only men of property and talent should hold positions in government and once elected they should be allowed to rule with a minimum of popular interference. ..They cast off their old habits of frugality and tried to rise above social position as well - a double sin. ~ Lynne Withey
Frugality quotes by Lynne Withey
The ability of mental concentration, as well as the absolutely essential feeling of obligation to one's job, are here most often combined with a strict economy which calculates the possibility of high earnings, and a cool self-control and frugality which enormously increase performance. ~ Max Weber
Frugality quotes by Max Weber
My parents were born in 1912; they graduated from college into the Depression. They kept notebooks of every nickel they spent, and these habits of frugality from having grown up so poor never left them. ~ Roz Chast
Frugality quotes by Roz Chast
The way to wealth is as plain as the way to market. It depends chiefly on two words, industry and frugality: that is, waste neither time nor money, but make the best use of both. Without industry and frugality nothing will do, and with them everything. ~ Benjamin Franklin
Frugality quotes by Benjamin Franklin
Republics demanded virtue. Monarchies could rely on coercion and "dazzling splendor" to suppress self-interest or factions; republics relied on the goodness of the people to put aside private interest for public good. The imperatives of virtue attached all sorts of desiderata to the republican citizen: simplicity, frugality, sobriety, simple manners, Christian benevolence, duty to the polity. Republics called on other virtues
spiritedness, courage
to protect the polity from external threats. Tyrants kept standing armies; republics relied on free yeomen, defending their own land. ~ James Monroe
Frugality quotes by James Monroe
...avarice and stinginess [are] not frugality ~ David McCullough
Frugality quotes by David McCullough
I have never heard about any perfect marriage. They say perfect marriages are made in heaven. Nobody comes back from there so maybe it is true, but what kind of marriage will those perfect marriages be? There will be no tension, there will be no individuality in the man or in the woman. They will never collide, they will never fight. They will be too sweet to each other. And too much sweetness brings diabetes! Marriage is an institution that teaches a man regularity, frugality, temperance, forbearance and many other splendid virtues he would not need had he stayed single. ~ Rajneesh
Frugality quotes by Rajneesh
There may be frugality which is not economy. A community, that withholds the means of education from its children, withholds the bread of life and starves their souls. ~ Horace Mann
Frugality quotes by Horace Mann
Vices are simply overworked virtues, anyway. Economy and frugality are to be commended but follow them on in an increasing ratio and what do we find at the other end? A miser! If we overdo the using of spare moments we may find an invalid at the end, while perhaps if we allowed ourselves more idle time we would conserve our nervous strength and health to more than the value the work we could accomplish by emulating at all times the little busy bee.
I once knew a woman, not very strong, who to the wonder of her friends went through a time of extraordinary hard work without any ill effects.
I asked her for her secret and she told me that she was able to keep her health, under the strain, because she took 20 minutes, of each day in which to absolutely relax both mind and body. She did not even "set and think." She lay at full length, every muscle and nerve relaxed and her mind as quiet as her body. This always relieved the strain and renewed her strength. ~ Laura Ingalls Wilder
Frugality quotes by Laura Ingalls Wilder
Frugality is good if liberality be joined with it. The first is leaving off superfluous expenses; the last is bestowing them to the benefit of others that need. The first without the last begets covetousness; the last without the first begets prodigality. ~ William Penn
Frugality quotes by William Penn
There are very few men and women, I suspect, who cooked and marketed their way through the past war without losing forever some of the nonchalant extravagance of the Twenties. They will feel, until their final days on earth, a kind of culinary caution: butter, no matter how unlimited, is a precious substance not lightly to be wasted; meats, too, and eggs, and all the far-brought spices of the world, take on a new significance, having once been so rare. And that is good, for there can be no more shameful carelessness than with the food we eat for life itself When we exist without thought or thanksgiving we are not men, but beasts. ~ Mary Francis Kennedy Fisher
Frugality quotes by Mary Francis Kennedy Fisher
Frugality includes all the other virtues. ~ Marcus Tullius Cicero
Frugality quotes by Marcus Tullius Cicero
[Benjamin Franklin]identified thirteen virtues he wanted to cultivate
temperance, silence, order, resolution, frugality, industry, sincerity, justice, moderation, cleanliness, tranquility, chastity and humility
and made a chart with those virtues plotted against the days of the week. Each day, Franklin would score himself on whether he practiced those thirteen virtues. ~ Gretchen Rubin
Frugality quotes by Gretchen Rubin
I peeked at him out of the corner of my eye. He had a slight smirk on his face. I imagined he was mentally checking off a task in his planner.

Frugality quotes by Colleen Houck
Material blessings, when they pay beyond the category of need, are weirdly fruitful of headache. ~ Philip Wylie
Frugality quotes by Philip Wylie
Let frugality and industry be our virtues. ~ John Adams
Frugality quotes by John Adams
Be in general virtuous, and you will be happy. ~ Benjamin Franklin
Frugality quotes by Benjamin Franklin
Frugality makes a poor man rich. ~ Seneca The Younger
Frugality quotes by Seneca The Younger
I hold it the duty of the executive to insist upon frugality in the expenditure, and a sparing economy is itself a great national source. ~ Andrew Johnson
Frugality quotes by Andrew Johnson
I'M LOSING FAITH IN MY FAVORITE COUNTRY

Throughout my life, the United States has been my favorite country, save and except for Canada, where I was born, raised, educated, and still live for six months each year. As a child growing up in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada, I aggressively bought and saved baseball cards of American and National League players, spent hours watching snowy images of American baseball and football games on black and white television and longed for the day when I could travel to that great country. Every Saturday afternoon, me and the boys would pay twelve cents to go the show and watch U.S. made movies, and particularly, the Superman serial. Then I got my chance. My father, who worked for B.F. Goodrich, took my brother and me to watch the Cleveland Indians play baseball in the Mistake on the Lake in Cleveland. At last I had made it to the big time. I thought it was an amazing stadium and it was certainly not a mistake. Amazingly, the Americans thought we were Americans.

I loved the United States, and everything about the country: its people, its movies, its comic books, its sports, and a great deal more. The country was alive and growing. No, exploding. It was the golden age of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. The American dream was alive and well, but demanded hard work, honesty, and frugality. Everyone understood that. Even the politicians.

Then everything changed.

Partly because of its proximity to ~ Stephen Douglass
Frugality quotes by Stephen Douglass
Industry, perseverance, and frugality make fortune yield. ~ Benjamin Franklin
Frugality quotes by Benjamin Franklin
A man may, if he knows not how to save as he gets, keep his nose to the grindstone. ~ Benjamin Franklin
Frugality quotes by Benjamin Franklin
Both the ferial and the festal cuisine, therefore, must be seen as styles of unabashed eating. Neither attempts to do anything to food other than render it delectable. Their distinction is grounded, not in sordid dietetic tricks, but in a choice between honest frugality or generous expense. Both aim only at excellence; accordingly, neither is suitable for dieting. Should a true man want to lose weight, let him fast. Let him sit down to nothing but coffee and conversation, if religion or reason bid him to do so; only let him not try to eat his cake without having it. Any cake he could do that with would be a pretty spooky proposition - a little golden calf with dietetic icing, and no taste at all worth having.

Let us fast, then - whenever we see fit, and as strenuously as we should. But having gotten that exercise out of the way, let us eat. Festally, first of all, for life without occasions is not worth living. But ferially, too, for life is so much more than occasions, and its grand ordinariness must never go unsavored. But both ways let us eat with a glad good will, and with a conscience formed by considerations of excellence, not by fear of Ghosts. ~ Robert Farrar Capon
Frugality quotes by Robert Farrar Capon
So much for industry, my friends, and attention to one's own business; but to these we must add frugality if we would make our industry more certainly successful. A man may, if he knows not how to save as he gets, keep his nose all his life to the grindstone, and die not worth a grout at last. ~ Benjamin Franklin
Frugality quotes by Benjamin Franklin
The way to wealth depends on just two words, industry and frugality. ~ Benjamin Franklin
Frugality quotes by Benjamin Franklin
Frugality is for the vulgar. ~ Francois Rabelais
Frugality quotes by Francois Rabelais
A dash of frugality is a good thing for everyone. ~ Jason Chaffetz
Frugality quotes by Jason Chaffetz
With parsimony a little is sufficient; without it nothing is sufficient; but frugality makes a poor man rich. ~ Seneca The Younger
Frugality quotes by Seneca The Younger
My stove is old. My wallpaper is old. It's the same wallpaper from when I moved here and I never changed it. Why would I change it? I just keep it clean. If you take better care of things, you can hold onto them longer. That's how I still run things. If it works, I keep it. If it doesn't, I see if I can use it for something else. If I can't, and I usually can, I toss it. ~ Clara Cannucciari
Frugality quotes by Clara Cannucciari
I think frugality drives innovation, just like other constraints do. One of the only ways to get out of a tight box is to invent your way out. ~ Jeff Bezos
Frugality quotes by Jeff Bezos
The world has not yet learned the riches of frugality. ~ Marcus Tullius Cicero
Frugality quotes by Marcus Tullius Cicero
There are, I think, two important lessons here. The first is that truly successful decision making relies on a balance between deliberate and instinctive thinking. [...] The second lesson is that in good decision making, frugality matters ~ Malcolm Gladwell
Frugality quotes by Malcolm Gladwell
No free government, or the blessings of liberty, can be preserved to any people, but by a firm adherence to justice, moderation, temperance, frugality and virtue. ~ George Mason
Frugality quotes by George Mason
We were very much a reading family, but we were a borrow-a-book-from-the-library family more than a bookshelves-full-of-books family. My parents valued books, but the grew up in the Depression, aware of the quicksilver nature of money, and they learned the hard way that you shouldn't buy what you could borrow. Because of that frugality, or perhaps independent of it, they also believed that you read a book for the experience of reading it. ~ Susan Orlean
Frugality quotes by Susan Orlean
If you know how to spend less than you get, you have the philosopher's stone. ~ Benjamin Franklin
