The division yin and yang pervades all culture, history, economics, nature itself; modern Western versions of sex discrimination are only the most recent layer. ~ Shulamith Firestone
Sex Discrimination quotes by Shulamith Firestone
I do not see that the sex of the candidate is an argument against her admission as a Privatdozent. After all, the Senate is not a bathhouse. Objecting to sex discrimination being the reason for rejection of Emmy Noether's application to join the faculty at the University of Gottingen. ~ David Hilbert
Sex Discrimination quotes by David Hilbert
In spite of lip service paid to domestic duties, in 1881 the Census excluded women's household chores from the category of productive work and, for the first time, housewives were classified as unoccupied. ~ Gabrielle Palmer
Sex Discrimination quotes by Gabrielle Palmer
An anarchist society is by definition a Free Society, but a Free Society is not necessarily Anarchist. It might fall short in several respects. Some failings might seriously limit its desirability. For instance, a Revolution carried out by men in a male-dominated society, might perpetuate sex discrimination, which would limit freedom and undermine the Revolution by leaving it possible for aggressive attitudes to be fostered. The liberal illusion that repressive forces must be tolerated which will ultimately wipe out all freedom
lest the right to dissent be imperilled
could well destroy the revolution. ~ Albert Meltzer
Sex Discrimination quotes by Albert Meltzer
Equal pay for equal work continues to be seen as applying to equal pay for men and women in the same occupation, while the larger point of continuing relevance in our day is that some occupations have depressed wages because women are the chief employee. The former is a pattern of sex discrimination, the latter of institutionalized sexism. ~ Alice S. Rossi
Sex Discrimination quotes by Alice S. Rossi
Indignant reply to the blatent sex discrimination expressed in a colleague's opposition when Hilbert proposed appointing Emmy Noether as the first woman professor at their university. ~ David Hilbert
Sex Discrimination quotes by David Hilbert
There's a sorry history of these kinds of charges of bias being leveled at women and judges of color, and also gay and lesbian judges. The theory being that they're going to be incapable of a disinterested judgment on matters that involve their own identity groups. And it came up famously for Constance Baker Motley who was one of the first African American federal judges in a case involving sex discrimination. ~ Deborah Rhode
Sex Discrimination quotes by Deborah Rhode
The sex difference in Agreeableness puts the debate about sex discrimination in society into an interesting light. The media tends to decry the fact that the prevalence of women chief executives of large corporations is very much lower than 50 per cent. But is this really evidence that discrimination is operating? It could equally well be the case that there is no discrimination, but that fewer women want to emphasize status gain at the expense of social connectedness. Given the known relationships between Agreeableness and career success, and the known sex differences in Agreeableness, you could actually work out the expected number of women in top positions if the market is blind to sex. It would not be zero, but it would be not be 50 per cent either. ~ Daniel Nettle
Sex Discrimination quotes by Daniel Nettle
In other words, for purposes of sex discrimination law, to be a woman means either to be like a man or like a lady. We have to meet either the male standard for males or the male standard for females. ~ Catharine A. MacKinnon
Sex Discrimination quotes by Catharine A. MacKinnon
It's through neglecting all other values to bring the customer the lowest price that Wal-Mart ended up with such a horrible sex discrimination problem, but that model produces lots and lots of other problems as well, which I think are possibly going to be more difficult to fix. ~ Liza Featherstone
Sex Discrimination quotes by Liza Featherstone
Like all citizens, Ms. McNeill has the right to be free from unlawful employment practices such as sex discrimination and retaliation. ~ John Hawkins
Sex Discrimination quotes by John Hawkins
We've told men for so long that we're equal, we can open our own doors, carry our own bags, pay our own way, that now they're afraid to offer in case we accuse them of sex discrimination. If you were a man would you buy a woman underwear? I wouldn't dare. What if she throws it back in your face and calls you a sexist pig? So they've tried to turn into new men, but that's no good either, because now we're telling them to be masculine. We don't just want them in a pair of Marigolds cleaning the oven, that's not good enough. We want them to take control, to whisk us off hotels, buy us dinner, and make mad passionate love to us all night. We want it all ways. We want them heroes and handy with the vacuum. No wonder the poor guys are confused ~ Alexandra Potter
Sex Discrimination quotes by Alexandra Potter
Employers are NOT prohibited from practicing sex discrimination in hiring and promoting employees. ~ Warren Farrell
Sex Discrimination quotes by Warren Farrell
There can be no doubt that our Nation has had a long and unfortunate history of sex discrimination. Traditionally, such discrimination was rationalized by an attitude of "romantic paternalism" which, in practical effect, put women, not on a pedestal, but in a cage. ~ William J. Brennan
Sex Discrimination quotes by William J. Brennan
Watch the walls come down, whether it's in the South or on Wall Street. When the walls come down, what do we find? More markets, more talent, more capital and growth. Which means that the race and sex discrimination stunt economic growth. It's not good for capitalism. It's not good for America's growth. And it's not morally right. ~ Jesse Jackson
Sex Discrimination quotes by Jesse Jackson
In some parts of the world, that sex selection for boys - and it's usually for boys - reflects sex discrimination against girls, and it leads to very large imbalances - in China, in Korea, in India - in the population between boys and girls, a vast disproportion of boys to girls, and it reflects really this discriminatory attitude toward girls. ~ Michael Sandel
Sex Discrimination quotes by Michael Sandel
Until opportunity is as free from sex discrimination as the right to vote finally came to be, no man has any right to criticize women for failure to measure up to men. ~ Mary Barnett Gilson
Sex Discrimination quotes by Mary Barnett Gilson
All emotion disappeared from his face and he took a deep breath through his nose. "I know what you're trying to do." His eyes unfocused for a moment, lost in thought. "I'll just have to prove it to you, then." His eyes narrowed as he looked into my eyes, determined as he was before one of his fights. "If you think I'm just going to go back to fucking around, you're wrong. I don't want anyone else. You wanna be friends? Fine, we're friends. But you and I both know that what happened wasn't just sex. ~ Jamie McGuire
Sex Discrimination quotes by Jamie McGuire
Henry Fielding, a highly successful satiric dramatist until the introduction of censorship in 1737, began his novel-writing career with Shamela, a pastiche of Pamela, which humorously attacked the hypocritical morality which that novel displayed. Joseph Andrews (1742) was also intended as a kind of parody of Richardson; but Fielding found that his novels were taking on a moral life of their own, and he developed his own highly personal narrative style - humorous and ironic, with an omniscient narrative presence controlling the lives and destinies of his characters.

Fielding focuses more on male characters and manners than Richardson. In doing so, he creates a new kind of hero in his novels. Joseph Andrews is chaste, while Tom Jones in Tom Jones (1749) is quite the opposite. Tom is the model of the young foundling enjoying his freedom (to travel, to have relationships with women, to enjoy sensual experience) until his true origins are discovered. When he matures, he assumes his social responsibilities and marries the woman he has 'always' loved, who has, of course, like a mediaeval crusader's beloved, been waiting faithfully for him. Both of these heroes are types, representatives of their sex.

There is a picaresque journey from innocence to experience, from freedom to responsibility. It is a rewriting of male roles to suit the society of the time. The hero no longer makes a crusade to the Holy Land, but the crusade is a personal one, with chivalry learne ~ Ronald Carter
Sex Discrimination quotes by Ronald Carter
I gave up drinking, and the next time I saw Bonny at a party, she was mad at me about that too, and went off and made out all night with Chip Neminech, the tackle who demonstrated that not only is there no I in team, there's no Q, either. I suppose, given that my mother was a girl, I shouldn't have been surprised that some of them could get pretty weird. ~ John Barnes
Sex Discrimination quotes by John Barnes
Nope.' He grabs my hand and places it over his heart. 'I already know the truth. We're dating.' His eyebrows waggle. 'Exclusively.'
'Gross.'
'Do you want to wear my letterman's jacket?'
'I'm going to vomit.'
'"Should I buy you a corsage?'
'Seriously. Gagging.'
'Okay, no corsage.' He laughs. 'Just the matching tattoos, then?'
'Seriously.' I fight the urge to stomp my foot. 'Let it go, Parker. Let it go.'
'Hey, Elsa, don't quote Frozen to me unless you're prepared to listen to the entire soundtrack in my car on the way to Seaport.' I stare up at him. 'I'm not sure whether I should be disturbed or turned on by the fact that you know all the words to Let It Go.'
He grins. 'Definitely turned on.'
'Downloaded in your iTunes library, no doubt.' I shake my head. 'This is nearly as disturbing as the time I learned the song A Whole New World from Aladdin is a metaphor for mind-blowing sex.'
'I'm sorry, what?'
'I can open your eyes? Lead you wonder by wonder? Over, sideways, and under?' I snort. 'Come on. That's basically soft-core porn.'
'Thank you, Zoe, for ruining a beloved Disney classic for me.'
'Anytime.'
'For the record…' He trails off.
I wince, anticipating the worst. 'What?'
'I'll take you on my magic carpet ride any time you
want, snookums.'
'Pass.'
'So, that's a no on rubbing my lamp then?'
'You know, I think I'll just find my own way to Nate's…' I turn an ~ Julie Johnson
Sex Discrimination quotes by Julie Johnson
Some day we'll awake, have a reformation of the heart, teach our kids honor and kill a few sex psychologists, put boys in high schools with men teachers (not sissies), close all the girls' finishing schools, shoot all the effeciency experts and become a nation of God's people once more. ~ Harry S. Truman
Sex Discrimination quotes by Harry S. Truman
A woman growing up under American ideas of liberty in government and religion, having never blushed behind a Turkish mask, nor pressed her feet in Chinese shoes, cannot brook any disabilities based on sex alone, without a deep feeling of antagonism with the power that creates it. ~ Susan B. Anthony
Sex Discrimination quotes by Susan B. Anthony
We men are very simple people: if we like what we see, we're coming over there. If we don't want anything from you, we're not coming over there. Period. Please highlight this part right here so you can always remind yourself the next time a man steps to you: a man always wants something. Always. And when it comes to women, that plan is always to find out two things: (1) if you're willing to sleep with him, and (2) if you are, how much it will cost to get you to sleep with him. ~ Steve Harvey
Sex Discrimination quotes by Steve Harvey
What pornography is really about, ultimately, isn't sex but death. ~ Susan Sontag
Sex Discrimination quotes by Susan Sontag
If sex is the sermon made of art, love is the lady of that tower. ~ Vladimir Nabokov
Sex Discrimination quotes by Vladimir Nabokov
Hailey shook her head. "Nobody cares about the meatloaf, Paige. Mitch is in town for six weeks and you could do with a little less tension. Don't want you killing anybody.
"So what you're saying is that I have to have sex with Mitch to save lives?"
"Absolutely. ~ Shannon Stacey
Sex Discrimination quotes by Shannon Stacey
If I had to choose between sex and food, I would choose food, but I'd choose sex over nearly everything else. ~ Helen Gurley Brown
Sex Discrimination quotes by Helen Gurley Brown
I come from a strong matriarchal line. I was raised by Gypsy, her sister, Mary, and my maternal grandmother. The result of not having my father live with us meant that, when it came to understanding the opposite sex, it was like working without a map. ~ Cherie Lunghi
Sex Discrimination quotes by Cherie Lunghi
I saw with so many of the gay couples, they were so devoted to another. I saw so much love. When this hearing was over, I was a changed person in regard to this issue. I felt that I understood what same-sex couples were looking for. ~ Wade Kach
Sex Discrimination quotes by Wade Kach
I couldn't understand how boldness and sorrow, how you're so hard and do you really care for me? could be so thoroughly bound together. Nor could I begin to fathom how someone so seemingly vulnerable, hesitant, and eager to confide so many uncertainties about herself could, with one and the same gesture, reach into my pants with unabashed recklessness and hold on to my cock and squeeze it. ~ Andre Aciman
Sex Discrimination quotes by Andre Aciman
When the sex war is won prostitutes should be shot as collaborators for their terrible betrayal of all women. ~ Julie Burchill
Sex Discrimination quotes by Julie Burchill
The thought of my mother talking to me about sex makes me want to stab my eyes out with a fork, gouge even deeper and scramble my brains to prevent the conversation from ever happening. ~ Addison Moore
Sex Discrimination quotes by Addison Moore
Neither sex is wrong in their communication; both sexes need to learn how to understand each other. ~ Pamela Cummins
Sex Discrimination quotes by Pamela Cummins
I think it's because with sex you're trusting someone to make you feel good, but an embrace says you're trusting someone to make you feel safe. ~ Jewel E. Ann
Sex Discrimination quotes by Jewel E. Ann
Gabi glared. If you want to add some variety to your sex life, why don't you just use your other hand? ~ Cherise Sinclair
Sex Discrimination quotes by Cherise Sinclair
Said Simone de Beauvoir in her groundbreaking book The Second Sex,
"Just as in America there is no Negro problem but rather a white problem; just as 'anti-Semitism is not a Jewish problem; it is our problem'; so the women problem has always been a man's problem. . . . Men have always held the lot of women in their hands; and they have determined what it should be, not according to her interest, but rather with regard to their own projects, their fears, and their needs. ~ Mary Gabriel
Sex Discrimination quotes by Mary Gabriel
It's not the sex you think i've had. it's the sex i want. that's what you smell on me. because the more i look at you, the more i know about us both.and the more i want to have sex with you. because there's a certain kind of sex that has an element of cleansing. it's the antidote to disillusion. the counterpoison._Eric Packer ~ Don DeLillo
Sex Discrimination quotes by Don DeLillo
I was a tomboy right from the time I was a kid and loved to be like that. I'd hate all the girlie things. Well my best friends as a kid have been boys. I get along best with the opposite sex. I guess that's the case with most people though! ~ Natasha Henstridge
Sex Discrimination quotes by Natasha Henstridge
In high school I had sex with girls quite a few times. They were straight women who I convinced to jump in the sack with me. ~ Portia De Rossi
Sex Discrimination quotes by Portia De Rossi
That girl had a great way of making friends, and strangers, and anyone else who was around. ~ Joan Rivers
Sex Discrimination quotes by Joan Rivers
Another well-known study, led by Nancy Andreasen, used structured interviews and matched control groups to examine thirty writers at the prestigious University of Iowa Writers' Workshop. Eighty percent of the writers met formal criteria for a major mood disorder, compared with thirty percent of controls matched for age, education, and sex. ~ Joshua Wolf Shenk
Sex Discrimination quotes by Joshua Wolf Shenk
Are you kidding? Sex first, then dinner - and I don't have to wear uncomfortable shoes? Sold. ~ Amanda Usen
Sex Discrimination quotes by Amanda Usen
This isn't going to be some freaky pagan sex thing, is it? ~ Kami Garcia
Sex Discrimination quotes by Kami Garcia
The children are deprived of the knowledge they might gain about money, illness, drugs, sex, marriage, their parents, their grandparents and people in general. They are also deprived of the reassurance they might receive if these topics were discussed more openly. Finally, they are deprived of role models of openness and honesty, and are provided instead with role models of partial honesty, incomplete openness and limited courage. ~ M. Scott Peck
Sex Discrimination quotes by M. Scott Peck
I'm standing naked before you. Don't you want more than sex? ~ Tori Amos
Sex Discrimination quotes by Tori Amos
I hurried over to Conrad, walking so fast I kicked up sand behind me. "Hey, I'm gonna get a ride," I said breathlessly.
The blond Red Sox girl looked me up and down. "Hello," she said.
Conrad said, "With who?"
I pointed at Cam. "Him."
"You're not riding with someone you don't even know," he said flatly.
"I do so know him. He's Sextus."
He narrowed his eyes. "Sex what?"
"Never mind. His name is Cam, he's studying whales, and you don't get to decide who I ride home with. I was just letting you know, as a courtesy. I wasn't asking for your permission." I started to walk away, but he grabbed my elbow.
"I don't care what he's studying. It's not gonna happen," he said casually, but his grip was tight. "If you want to go, I'll take you."
I took a deep breath. I had to keep cool. I wasn't going to let him goad me into being a baby, not in front of all these people. "No, thanks," I said, trying to walk away again. But he didn't let go.
"I thought you already had a boyfriend?" His tone was mocking, and I knew he'd seen through my lie the night before.
I wanted so badly to throw a handful of sand in his face. I tried to twist out of his grip. "Let go of me! That hurts!"
He let go immediately, his face red. It didn't really hurt, but I wanted to embarrass him the way he was embarrassing me. I said loudly, "I'd rather ride with a stranger than with someone who's been drinking!"
"I've had one beer," he snapped. "I weigh a hun ~ Jenny Han
Sex Discrimination quotes by Jenny Han
I will grant you one wish, for your birthday. Anything at all, except sex."
"Wait…what?"
"You heard me. So what do you want?" Grayson questioned, keeping calm about the whole thing.
Konnor thought those words over in his head again. He was literally telling him he could do what he wanted with him, as a birthday treat, as long as they didn't sleep together.
"Wait a minute. Are you saying that if I wanted to…" he asked, but found that he didn't want to embarrass Grayson by saying it. His eyes went there any way. They focused on his crotch withoutshame, wondering if he would get to remove clothes.
"Yes," he nodded.
"And you'd let me? Why?" he asked, too stunned to do anything else but ask.
"Because it's not your fault I'm straight. And it's not your fault you're attracted to me. If I can't give you everything you want I can at least give you a birthday to remember, right?" Grayson smiled.
Konnor felt like kissing him so hard he wouldn't be straight any more. ~ Elaine White
Sex Discrimination quotes by Elaine White
... she was afraid of how he made her feel, because he made her feel way too much ~ Justine Dell
Sex Discrimination quotes by Justine Dell
In the city of flesh I travel without maps, a worried tourist: and Ottilie was a very Venice. I stumbled lost in the blue shade of her pavements. Here was a dreamy stillness, a swaying, the splash of an oar. Then, when I least expected it, suddenly I stepped out into the great square, the sunlight, and she was a flock of birds scattering with soft cries in my arms. ~ John Banville
Sex Discrimination quotes by John Banville
They rise in the morning, and they sleep in the dark. And even though nobody's looking, she's falling apart. ~ Lisa Loeb
Sex Discrimination quotes by Lisa Loeb
If shackling former prisoners with a lifetime of debt and authorizing discrimination against them in employment, housing, education, and public benefits is not enough to send the message that they are not wanted and not even considered full citizens, then stripping voting rights from those labeled criminals surely gets the point across. ~ Michelle Alexander
Sex Discrimination quotes by Michelle Alexander
People die of love. I'm one of the few who'll admit it. That doesn't mean it isn't true.
Take all the people who died yesterday, or last week, or last year. Subtract all the suicides and the so-called accidents of the brokenhearted. Take away the men who got blown away for being in the wrong bed at the wrong moment, the women in abusive marriages who died of cancer because they couldn't find any other exit from their lives. All the AIDS deaths except from the needles and the transfusions, the ones they call the innocent victims. Like if you have sex, you're guilty. Deserved just what you got.
Now tell me who all you've got left.
Without love the world would be overpopulated, except that without love it wouldn't be populated at all. Love giveth and love taketh away and all that crap. You'll probably say all those people died from the lack of love, but I say it's two sides of the same coin. So it's the same coin. ~ Catherine Ryan Hyde
Sex Discrimination quotes by Catherine Ryan Hyde
Sex is sacred if performed as a culmination of love, if done just to satisfy the lust, it indeed dents the character. ~ Girdhar Joshi
Sex Discrimination quotes by Girdhar Joshi
Women fake orgasms and men fake finances. ~ Suze Orman
Sex Discrimination quotes by Suze Orman
Will you get over your gigantic ego? Jesus, it's a bigger choking hazard than your cock. You're a man who's had a lot of sex. Of course you're good in bed. but there are others out there who are just as good. You're not special because you know how to give a woman an orgasm." "I ~ Jordan Marie
Sex Discrimination quotes by Jordan Marie
The sort of public sex aspects of gay male sexuality did not appeal to me. And it wasn't just a matter of being afraid of them or being too nervous to try them. I did try them and they didn't work for me, they didn't feed me spiritually, they didn't leave me gratified. ~ Christopher Rice
Sex Discrimination quotes by Christopher Rice
I enjoy sex as much as Joe Namath, only I do it with one girl. ~ Roger Staubach
Sex Discrimination quotes by Roger Staubach
You got a problem with the Pill?" he asked.
I shook my head. "Only taking hormones when I'm not having sex regularly."
"Jussy, you're gonna be having sex regularly. ~ Kristen Ashley
Sex Discrimination quotes by Kristen Ashley
Why not?" she exclaimed. Translation: If you can have sex with a drug offender, why can't I have sex with the salutatorian? ~ Jennifer Echols
Sex Discrimination quotes by Jennifer Echols
Oh, I have felt lust. And I've indulged lust. But no other woman has turned me into another person. ~ Eloisa James
