I've always liked shows that have a strong cast of secondary characters. One of the greatest examples ever I would say is 'The Simpsons.' If you think about it, you could name 100 characters recognizable from that show. I think 'Scrubs' has done a good job of having a strong team coming off the bench. ~ Neil Flynn
Secondary Characters quotes by Neil Flynn
There are plenty of secondary characters that I had always hoped to write, but I don't know if it will ever happen. The way contracts work, if you leave one publishing house for another, the characters tend to stay with the previous publishing house. ~ Lori Foster
Secondary Characters quotes by Lori Foster
O.M.G. Lucca, what are you feeding her? Everyday I look at you, and I swear those twinnes must double in size. Look at your bump in this dress, how are you managing to cart that around? Rather you than me chubby." ~Hazel ~ S.J. Molloy
Secondary Characters quotes by S.J. Molloy
But, in North Korea, it's just the opposite. There's one story. It's written by the Kim regime. And 23 million people are conscripted to be secondary characters. There, as a youth, your aptitude towards certain jobs is measured, and the rest of your life is dictated, whether you'll be a fisherman or a farmer or an opera singer. ~ Adam Johnson
Secondary Characters quotes by Adam Johnson
It's a funny show. The characters are surprisingly likable, given how ugly they are. We've got this huge cast of characters that we can move around. And over the last few seasons, we've explored some of the secondary characters' personal lives a bit more. ~ Matt Groening
Secondary Characters quotes by Matt Groening
How can so many (white, male) writers narratively justify restricting the agency of their female characters on the grounds of sexism = authenticity while simultaneously writing male characters with conveniently modern values?

The habit of authors writing Sexism Without Sexists in genre novels is seemingly pathological. Women are stuffed in the fridge under cover of "authenticity" by secondary characters and villains because too many authors flinch from the "authenticity" of sexist male protagonists. Which means the yardstick for "authenticity" in such novels almost always ends up being "how much do the women suffer", instead of - as might also be the case - "how sexist are the heroes".

And this bugs me; because if authors can stretch their imaginations far enough to envisage the presence of modern-minded men in the fake Middle Ages, then why can't they stretch them that little bit further to put in modern-minded women, or modern-minded social values? It strikes me as being extremely convenient that the one universally permitted exception to this species of "authenticity" is one that makes the male heroes look noble while still mandating that the women be downtrodden and in need of rescuing.

Secondary Characters quotes by Foz Meadows
Miss Lea, it doesn't do to get attached to these secondary characters. It's not their story. ~ Diane Setterfield
Secondary Characters quotes by Diane Setterfield
Word to the wise writer ... never underestimate your secondary characters! But watch them ... they sneak off with stuff. ~ Ka Hancock
Secondary Characters quotes by Ka Hancock
The glory of the protagonist is always paid for
by a lot of secondary characters ~ Tony Hoagland
Secondary Characters quotes by Tony Hoagland
I get it, she's your rock. Your anchor in the storm. ~Bo~ ~ Lucian Bane
Secondary Characters quotes by Lucian Bane
It doesn't do to get attached to these secondary characters. It's not their story. They come and go, and when they go, they're gone for good. ~ Diane Setterfield
Secondary Characters quotes by Diane Setterfield
Well tarnation you're a meanie pants aren't you?" ~Miss Mary~ ~ Lucian Bane
Secondary Characters quotes by Lucian Bane
Like the size and composition of a work, the walk and talk of an artist has to persuade, not just others but the performers themselves. Whether they have colorful, large-scale personas or minimal, low-key selves, believable artists are always protagonists, never secondary characters who inhabit stereotypes. For this reason, I see artists' studios as private stages for the daily rehearsal of self-belief. ~ Sarah Thornton
Secondary Characters quotes by Sarah Thornton
We [me and Jennifer Salke] talked about the characters and different kinds of families and where are we today. We certainly pitched the gay couple, but we also talked about what it was like to be a single mother with a young daughter, what is it like to be a woman in your 50's who is completely starting over and dating again and having to go online to date again. We talked about the whole spectrum of the characters, but I don't think it ever came up about whether people are ready for it or not. ~ Ryan T. Murphy
Secondary Characters quotes by Ryan T. Murphy
First we must understand that there can be no life without risk - and when our center is strong, everything else is secondary, even the risks. ~ Elie Wiesel
Secondary Characters quotes by Elie Wiesel
The field of ageing research is full of characters. We have hucksters claiming that cures for ageing can be bought and sold; prophetic seers, their hands extended for money, warning that immortality is nigh; and would-be Nobelists working methodically in laboratories in search of a pill to slow ageing. ~ S. Jay Olshansky
Secondary Characters quotes by S. Jay Olshansky
Many of my short fictions use theatre as a metaphor for situations in which characters find themselves estranged from the larger, uncontrollable world that may or may not lie beyond the proscenium arch. ~ Norman Lock
Secondary Characters quotes by Norman Lock
A lot of the scripts I read and the characters I get are 'the girl' in romantic films, and I don't know how comfortable I am, or the world is, with me being that. ~ Mamie Gummer
Secondary Characters quotes by Mamie Gummer
Also, in my acting, I feel very much like a storyteller, exploring the flaws of the characters that I interpret. I look for the imperfections, and I love a character that is just so flawed. ~ Danny Huston
Secondary Characters quotes by Danny Huston
I love liminal characters. I love these characters that are outside and enter and consequently are perpetually outsiders, and who hold themselves to a higher standard. ~ Greg Rucka
Secondary Characters quotes by Greg Rucka
I always wished there was somebody like the Coen Brothers and they appeared. And so yeah, my favorite role that I've ever done was in The Man Who Wasn't There. That's my very favorite character I've ever played. ~ Billy Bob Thornton
Secondary Characters quotes by Billy Bob Thornton
Back in 2004, Kellie Overbey handed me her play 'Girl Talk' to read. I fell in love with her brutally delicious humor and the fearlessly deft way in which she drew her characters. They jumped off the page and begged me to give them a space in which to stomp around. ~ Carrie Preston
Secondary Characters quotes by Carrie Preston
I write the occasional entry for the 'Times' Theatre blog, especially when I'm in London and seeing two shows a day, but I don't tweet. I don't want to have to express my opinion in 140 characters. That's like writing haiku. You need a certain amount of legroom to review a play properly. ~ Ben Brantley
Secondary Characters quotes by Ben Brantley
I like characters. I like spirited characters whether they exist in fiction or real life. Whether they're the invention of artistic people or directors, musicians. I think music and art and fashion designers inspire me and I like characters. ~ Marc Jacobs
Secondary Characters quotes by Marc Jacobs
If I were to continue on with 'The Host,' which is a possibility, there are characters and stories that could continue ... If I went ahead with that, it would be two more ... Next would be 'The Soul,' and then 'The Seeker.' ~ Stephenie Meyer
Secondary Characters quotes by Stephenie Meyer
There is a perfect rout of characters in every man - and every man is like an actor's trunk, full of strange creatures, new & old. But an actor and his trunk are two different things ~ Wallace Stevens
Secondary Characters quotes by Wallace Stevens
I've done movies that have mostly feminine characters and elements, and I think that both 'Heathers' and 'Truth About Cats and Dogs' are, in their own weird ways - they're different ends of the girl movie spectrum, but they're very much centered around the female characters, and I like those movies, and I like working with good actresses. ~ Michael Lehmann
Secondary Characters quotes by Michael Lehmann
Besides Spiderman and Batman, 'The Flash' has, hands down, the best villains. You could do a TV show about The Rogues, and there's enough depth and interest and oddly honor amongst those characters that I think people will watch that show. ~ Andrew Kreisberg
Secondary Characters quotes by Andrew Kreisberg
I shook my head back and forth as though I was a human etch-a-sketch, erasing the memory. ~ Nicole Gulla
Secondary Characters quotes by Nicole Gulla
The way to succeed is giving people a noble reason to do something despicable. And my patients ... my clients, my characters are doing kind of scamming, deceptive things but they're doing them for noble reasons. Typically to be loved, to be accepted, to trick someone into embracing them and care for them. ~ Chuck Palahniuk
Secondary Characters quotes by Chuck Palahniuk
I really like the Chris-R scene and of course the "you are tearing me apart Lisa" scene. The reason I love the Chris-R scene is because we worked really hard to finish it. It's not just that though, it brings people together. Everyone is one the roof together by the end of the scene. You see the perspectives of the different characters. I feel like with all the connections in this scene that the room connects the entire world ~ Tommy Wiseau
Secondary Characters quotes by Tommy Wiseau
I own all the characters I created, thanks to the Writers Guild, so nobody can do anything without me. The way it works is: If the copyright owners instigate a project, like the movie, then I get a fee as creator. If I instigate a project, like the musical, I pay a percentage to the copyright owners. ~ Sherwood Schwartz
Secondary Characters quotes by Sherwood Schwartz
When I got the script to this movie, The Good Girl, I read it in an hour. The writer, Mike White, has an ability to create characters that are so creepy and dysfunctional and human, with this duality that makes people feel empathy for them at the same time. My first thought was 'Was this sent to the right person?' I called my agent. 'Are they sure? Let's say yes before they realize they've sent it to the wrong person!. ~ Jennifer Aniston
Secondary Characters quotes by Jennifer Aniston
Someone can intentionally fake blindness for some secondary gain (malingering)
a prisoner who says he can't see in order to try to avoid going directly to jail. It is not difficult to figure out when patients say they are blind but can actually see. We have a simple test that lets us determine whether the eyes are functioning. Using a rotating striped drum, we test for something called optokinetic nystagmus. as the drum spins, normal eyes will be seen moving back and forth.
If a striped rotating drum is not available, you can always use a picture of J. Lo's rear. Move it back and forth, and any normal eyes will follow. ~ Mark Leyner
Secondary Characters quotes by Mark Leyner
I have quite a normal family and I'm bored with how normal my family is. I want to mess stuff up a bit. I chose the messed up characters because I find that that's acting. I want to explore emotions that you otherwise wouldn't be able to explore. ~ Chloe Grace Moretz
Secondary Characters quotes by Chloe Grace Moretz
[My work is] maybe about me maybe not wanting to be me and wanting to be all these other characters. Or at least try them on. ~ Cindy Sherman
Secondary Characters quotes by Cindy Sherman
In folk music, I've always been fond of the fragment. The song that has one verse. And you don't know anything about the characters, you don't know what they're doing, but they're doing something important. I love that. I'm really a sucker for that kind of song. ~ Jerry Garcia
Secondary Characters quotes by Jerry Garcia
You get a bad review with a novel, and it hurts. But I imagine if you get a bad review with a memoir, it hurts more because you can always say, 'Well, they didn't like my characters,' but when you're the character, it's like, 'Oh, yeah, they actually didn't like me.' ~ Darin Strauss
Secondary Characters quotes by Darin Strauss
The female characters in 'Peep Show' are not 'strong': they are idiots. As idiotic as the men. ~ Robert Webb
Secondary Characters quotes by Robert Webb
I love creating characters and becoming someone else entirely. ~ Brina Palencia
Secondary Characters quotes by Brina Palencia
The point wasn't that if the outer world were schooled appropriately re: the characters' preferred pronouns, everything would be right as rain. Because if the outsiders called the characters "he", it would be a different kind of he. Words change depending on who speaks them; there is no cure. ~ Maggie Nelson
Secondary Characters quotes by Maggie Nelson
Do you ever get moods when life seems absolutely meaningless? It's like a badly-constructed story, with all sorts of characters moving in and out who have nothing to do with the plot. And when somebody comes along that you think really has something to do with the plot, he suddenly drops out. After a while you begin to wonder what the story is about, and you feel that it's about nothing - just a jumble. ~ P.G. Wodehouse
Secondary Characters quotes by P.G. Wodehouse
It's not all 'Jane Eyre' out there. In her sweet, honorable, slightly passive-aggressive way, Jane was as perfect as a protagonist can get while remaining interesting; in fact, she's one of my favorites. But most characters are more morally ambiguous. ~ Susan Isaacs
Secondary Characters quotes by Susan Isaacs
There are fantastic stories yet to be told featuring Marvel's characters, old and new, and I'm thrilled to be part of them. ~ Charles Soule
Secondary Characters quotes by Charles Soule
I like stories that exist both in the naturalistic world and in our imaginative lives, films are so immersive in that sense, we can explore how our characters think and dream, as well as how they exist in the real world. ~ Dave McKean
Secondary Characters quotes by Dave McKean
Disney World is celebrating its 40th birthday! You can tell the characters are getting old. In addition to Snow White's seven dwarfs, she now has 25 cats. ~ Jimmy Fallon
Secondary Characters quotes by Jimmy Fallon
Of course I know that the twins are only words on a page, and I'm certainly not the sort of writer who talks to his characters or harbours any illusions about the creative process. But at the same time, I think it's juvenile and arrogant when literary writers compulsively remind their readers that the characters aren't real. People know that already. The challenge is to make an intelligent reader suspend disbelief, to seduce them into the reality of a narrative. ~ Michel Faber
Secondary Characters quotes by Michel Faber
That's the most important thing when you're trying to portray a character for the audience to believe, you have to have the ability to journey in uncomfortable areas in your own personal life - to bring them out and make (the characters) true. Michael Landon is incredible at pulling those (emotions) out of you. ~ Drew Waters
Secondary Characters quotes by Drew Waters
The concept of progress, i.e., an improvement or completion (in modern jargon, a rationalization) became dominant in the eighteenth century, in an age of humanitarian-moral belief. Accordingly, progress meant above all progress in culture, self-determination, and education: moral perfection. In an age of economic or technical thinking, it is self-evident that progress is economic or technical progress. To the extent that anyone is still interested in humanitarian-moral progress, it appears as a byproduct of economic progress. If a domain of thought becomes central, then the problems of other domains are solved in terms of the central domain - they are considered secondary problems, whose solution follows as a matter of course only if the problems of the central domain are solved. ~ Carl Schmitt
Secondary Characters quotes by Carl Schmitt
There are two characters in me: a doodler and a tuner. And the only thing that makes me go crazy is when they both fight for their turn. ~ Shawn Lukas
Secondary Characters quotes by Shawn Lukas
I want the chance to play very different characters, and I've always wanted to do more films. ~ Joanne Froggatt
Secondary Characters quotes by Joanne Froggatt
I loved 'Dungeons & Dragons.' Actually, not so much the actual playing as the creation of characters and the opportunity to roll twenty-sided dice. I loved those pouches of dice Dungeon Masters would trundle around, loved choosing what I was going to be: warrior, wizard, dwarf, thief. ~ Michael Ian Black
Secondary Characters quotes by Michael Ian Black
A man who had destroyed an indifferent world in order to recreate it again in his head, this time with new colours, new characters, new stories. ~ Paulo Coelho
