When Jesus stepped into the waters of the Jordan and was baptized by John the Baptist, he did so not because he was in need of repentance, or conversion: he did it to be among people who need forgiveness, among us sinners, and to take upon himself the burden of our sins. ~ Pope Francis
John The Baptist quotes by Pope Francis
He got me a cup of tea with honey, toast with honey, yogurt with honey, like I was John the Baptist with the flu. ~ Anne Lamott
John The Baptist quotes by Anne Lamott
It seems that, after nineteen centuries of extraordinary glorification, the small Host for which so many cathedrals have sprung up, the small Host that has rested in millions of breasts and that has found a tabernacle and worshippers even in the desert - it seems that the triumphant Host of Lourdes and the Eucharistic Congresses of Chicago and Carthage remains as unknown, as secret as when it appeared for the first time in a room in Jerusalem. Light is in the world as in the days of St. John the Baptist, and the world does not know it ~ Francois Mauriac
John The Baptist quotes by Francois Mauriac
REPENT:FOR THE KINGDOM OF GOD
IS AT HAND

The whole message of John the Baptist and Jesus Christ are: Repent: For the Kingdom of God is at hand.

But this message has been terrible misunderstood by the priests and the Christians.

It is almost the same kind of people that crucified Jesus, which founded Christianity.

The symbol for Christianity has also become the cross on which Jesus was crucified, which is a bit morbid.

When you do not repent, your eyes will be filled with this world: the world of possession, the world of greed, the world of anger and hate, the world of ego and the world of hatred.

Your eyes has to be completely cleansed before you can see the Kingdom of God.

Repentance will open the door to God, to the divine.

What does it mean to repent? Repentance does not mean to ask to be forgiven for making a mistake. This will not change you, it will not transform
you.

What John the Baptist and Jesus Christ mean by repentance is something totally different. They mean to look to the very roots of your being, of your existence. It is not about asking to repent for a specific act, it is about changing the whole quality of your being.

It is about returning to your original being. Jesus says that the Kingdom of God is within you. The Kingdom of God is to return to your deepest core of being, which transforms you.

It is to stand naked before God. ~ Swami Dhyan Giten
John The Baptist quotes by Swami Dhyan Giten
Every great movement needs an agitator. Every leader of spiritual ideals need a John the Baptist. ~ William Allen White
John The Baptist quotes by William Allen White
It's all right," she said. "You're through."
"Jesus," he finally managed, pushing water off his face. "Jesus Christ and John the Baptist. For that matter, Matthew, Mark, Luke, John." Still not enough. He needed to reach back to the Old Testament for this. "Obadiah. Nebuchadnezzar. Methuselah and Job."
"Be calm," she said, taking him by the shoulders. "Be calm. And there are women in the Bible, you know."
"Yes. As I recall it, they were trouble, every last one. ~ Tessa Dare
John The Baptist quotes by Tessa Dare
Jane Addams too knew that Chicago's blood was hustler's blood. Knowing that Chicago, like John the Baptist and Bathhouse John, like Billy Sunday and Big Bill, forever keeps two faces, one for winners and one for losers, one for hustlers and one for squares. ~ Nelson Algren
John The Baptist quotes by Nelson Algren
And don't succumb too much to the spell of these cases. I have seen many other fragments of the cross, in other churches. If all were genuine, our Lord's torment could not have been on a couple of planks nailed together, but on an entire forest.'
'Master!' I said, shocked.
'So it is, Adso. And there are ever richer treasuries. Some time ago, in the cathedral of Cologne, I saw the skull of John the Baptist at the age of twelve.'
'Really?' I exclaimed, amazed. Then, siezed by doubt, I added, 'But the Baptist was executed at a more advanced age!'
'The other skull must be in another treasury,' William said, with a grave face. I never understood when he was jesting. ~ Umberto Eco
John The Baptist quotes by Umberto Eco
John the Baptist, who we are told was related by blood to Jesus, was preaching the impending judgement of God, urging repentance and moral reform, and baptizing in the Jordan River those who responded. ~ Kenneth Scott Latourette
John The Baptist quotes by Kenneth Scott Latourette
No honest theologian therefore can deny that his acceptance of Jesus as Christ logically binds every Christian to a belief in reincarnation - in Elias case (who was later John the Baptist) at least. ~ Robert Graves
John The Baptist quotes by Robert Graves
Like most things in life, there's also a spiritual side to my beard. Look at John the Baptist, one of the most important people in the New Testament. According to Matthew 3:4, "John's clothes were made of camel's hair, and he had a leather belt around his waist. His food was locusts and wild honey." He baptized Jesus, who was God in human body, despite his appearance being that of a deranged vagrant. When I try to visualize John the Baptist, I see a bearded hunter who had to have some sort of weaponry to function in the wild. I would also assume he dipped the locusts in wild honey before he ate them. Based on what I read in the Bible about John the Baptist, I actually tried to eat a locust once, but it tasted terrible, which gave me the idea that John the Baptist probably dipped them in honey first. Then again, almost everything tastes good with honey. ~ Jase Robertson
John The Baptist quotes by Jase Robertson
Logic, order, truth, reason, we consign them all to the oblivion of death," said one Surrealist manifesto. We must "cultivate the hatred of intelligence," said the leader of the Futurists, Filippo Marinetti, an artist hailed by Mussolini as the John the Baptist of Fascism.17 ~ Leonard Peikoff
John The Baptist quotes by Leonard Peikoff
Whether we're looking at the burial box of St. James, a fragment of the True Cross, the Shroud of Turin, or some bones supposedly belonging to John the Baptist, there is always excitement and distrust, faith and doubt. ~ Jay Parini
John The Baptist quotes by Jay Parini
As the people came to a desert place to hear John the Baptist proclaim, "Thus saith the Lord," so [man] in his confusions, frustrations, and bewilderment will come to hear the minister who preaches with authority. ~ Billy Graham
John The Baptist quotes by Billy Graham
I held my hand up, frowning. "Wait a minute. Where did you say this thing was stolen from?"
"The Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist." Father Vincent said.
"In Northern Italy." I said.
He nodded.
"In Turin, to be exact."
"He nodded again, his expression reserved.
"Someone stole the freaking Shroud of Turin?" I demanded.
"Yes."
I settled back in the chair, looking down at the photos again. This changed things.
This changed things a lot. ~ Jim Butcher
John The Baptist quotes by Jim Butcher
In the entire works of the Jewish historian Josephus (37-c. 100 CE), which constitute hundreds of pages, there are only two paragraphs that purport to refer to Jesus. Although much has been made of these 'references,' they have been dismissed by many scholars and even by Christian apologists as forgeries, as have been those referring to John the Baptist and James, 'brother' of Jesus. Bishop Warburton (1698-1779) labeled the Josephus interpolation regarding Jesus as 'a rank forgery, and a very stupid one, too. ~ D.M. Murdock
John The Baptist quotes by D.M. Murdock
If the enemy could only know that Marcus Garvey is but a John the Baptist in the wilderness, that a greater and more dangerous Marcus Garvey is yet to appear, the Garvey with whom you will have to reckon for the injustice of the present generation. ~ Marcus Garvey
John The Baptist quotes by Marcus Garvey
Religion is best when it points beyond itself, like Isaiah or John the Baptist. It is worst when it gives you just enough of the forms to inoculate you against the substance, when it substitutes rituals for reality, the container for the contents, the wineskins for the ecstatic wine. ~ Richard Rohr
John The Baptist quotes by Richard Rohr
[On refusing to be silenced:] I do not pretend to be John the Baptist rebuking the Pharisees. I do not claim to be Nathan upbraiding David. I aspire only to be Balaam's ass, castigating his master. ~ Katharina Zell
John The Baptist quotes by Katharina Zell
It has never been recommended to confuse "loving" with "seeking to please" ... Salome pleased Herod's guests; I can hardly believe she was burning with love for them. As for poor John the Baptist ... she certainly did not envelop him in her love. ~ Jacques Maritain
John The Baptist quotes by Jacques Maritain
When you worship, you are saying, "This one is worth more." At the same time you are implying, "I am worth less." Worship is the magnification of God and the minimization of self. One of the most succinct expressions of a worshipper's heart in all the New Testament came from John the Baptist: "He must increase, but I must decrease."5 ~ James MacDonald
John The Baptist quotes by James MacDonald
The angels heralded the birth of the Savior, John the Baptist heralded the coming of the Savior, and we herald the gospel of the Savior. ~ Katy Kauffman
John The Baptist quotes by Katy Kauffman
Pathology, probably more than any other branch of science, suffers from heroes and hero-worship. Rudolf Virchow has been its archangel and William Welch its John the Baptist, while Paracelsus and Cohnheim have been relegated to the roles of Lucifer and Beelzebub ... Actually, there are no heroes in Pathology-all of the great thoughts permitting advance have been borrowed from other fields, and the renaissance of pathology stems not from pathology itself but from the philosophers Kant and Goethe. ~ Harry S.N. Greene
John The Baptist quotes by Harry S.N. Greene
John the Baptist was supposed to point the way to the Christ. He was just the voice, not the Messiah. So everybody's calling has dignity to it and God seems to know better than we do what is in us that needs to be called forth. ~ James Green Somerville
John The Baptist quotes by James Green Somerville
Regardless of when Advent begins, every year the same Scripture readings are used for weekdays from December 17-24. The Gospels on those days describe events leading up to the birth of Christ: December 17: The genealogy of Jesus (Matthew) December 18: The annunciation to Joseph (Matthew) December 19: The annunciation to Zechariah (Luke) December 20: The annunciation to Mary (Luke) December 21: Mary's visit to Elizabeth (Luke) December 22: Mary's "Magnificat" (Luke) December 23: The birth of John the Baptist (Luke) December 24: The "Benedictus" of Zechariah (Luke) ~ Ken Untener
John The Baptist quotes by Ken Untener
Many a modern preacher is far less concerned with preaching Christ and Him crucified than he is with his popularity with his congregation. A want of intellectual backbone makes him straddle the ox of truth and the ass of nonsense. Bending the knee to the mob rather than God would probably make them scruple at ever playing the role of John the Baptist before a modern Herod. The acids of modernity are eating away the fossils of orthodoxy. ~ Fulton J. Sheen
John The Baptist quotes by Fulton J. Sheen
A similar lack of concern about Jesus's earthly origins can be found in the first gospel, Mark, written just after 70 C.E. Mark's focus is kept squarely on Jesus's ministry; he is uninterested either in Jesus's birth or, perhaps surprisingly, in Jesus's resurrection, as he writes nothing at all about either event. The early Christian community appears not to have been particularly concerned about any aspect of Jesus's life before the launch of his ministry. Stories about his birth and childhood are conspicuously absent from the earliest written documents. The Q material, which was compiled around 50 C.E., makes no mention of anything that happened before Jesus's baptism by John the Baptist. The letters of Paul, which make up the bulk of the New Testament, are wholly detached from any event in Jesus's life save his crucifixion and resurrection (though Paul does mention the Last Supper). ~ Reza Aslan
John The Baptist quotes by Reza Aslan
I am 'the voice of one crying out in the desert,
"Make straight the way of the Lord, ~ Anonymous
John The Baptist quotes by Anonymous
The god of Moses would brusquely call for other tribes, including his favorite one, to suffer massacre and plague and even extirpation, but when the grave closed over his victims he was essentially finished with them unless he remembered to curse their succeeding progeny. Not until the advent of the Prince of Peace do we hear of the ghastly idea of further punishing and torturing the dead. First presaged by the rantings of John the Baptist, the son of god is revealed as one who, if his milder words are not accepted straightaway, will condemn the inattentive to everlasting fire. ~ Christopher Hitchens
John The Baptist quotes by Christopher Hitchens
An ancient human religious figure known as John the Baptist had once claimed, "The truth shall make you free," but if Aelyx remembered correctly, John's honesty had been rewarded with a gruesome decapitation. Aelyx hoped for better results. ~ Melissa Landers
John The Baptist quotes by Melissa Landers
13 Then the disciples understood that he was speaking to them of John the Baptist. ~ Anonymous
John The Baptist quotes by Anonymous
John the Baptist never performed any miracles. Yet, he was greater than any of the Old Testament prophets. ~ Leonard Ravenhill
John The Baptist quotes by Leonard Ravenhill
I'm just preparing the way, just like John the Baptist for Our Lord. ~ Emma Donoghue
John The Baptist quotes by Emma Donoghue
Know that no one can have indulged in the Holy Writers sufficiently, unless he has governed churches for a hundred years with the prophets, such as Elijah and Elisha, John the Baptist, Christ and the apostles ... We are beggars: this is true. ~ Martin Luther
John The Baptist quotes by Martin Luther
It is not the business of religion in these days to isolate herself from the world like John the Baptist. She must go down into the world like Jesus Christ. ~ Hugh Reginald Haweis
John The Baptist quotes by Hugh Reginald Haweis
I pray for John the Baptist and Baby Jesus to come around for a playdate with Dora and Boots. ~ Emma Donoghue
John The Baptist quotes by Emma Donoghue
Don't ask me those questions! Don't ask me what life means or how we know reality or why we have to suffer so much. Don't talk about how nothing feels real, how everything is coated with gelatin and shining like oil in the sun. I don't want to hear about the tiger in the corner or the Angel of Death or the phone calls from John the Baptist. ~ Susanna Kaysen
John The Baptist quotes by Susanna Kaysen
Matthew 11:12? "From the days of John the Baptist until now, the kingdom of heaven has been forcefully advancing, and forceful men lay hold of it." Are you playing offense in your marriage? Or are you playing a prevent defense that leaves romance on the sidelines? ~ Mark Batterson
John The Baptist quotes by Mark Batterson
Though all the Protestant denominations have historically condemned the veneration of holy objects (relics) and their use in healing, the Catholic church - until recently - preferred to depend entirely upon the magical qualities attributed to the possessions or actual physical parts of various saints and biblical characters for healing. The Vatican not only permitted but encouraged this practice, which entered history in the third century. Catholic churches and private collections still overflow with hundreds of thousands of items. Included are pieces of the True Cross (enough to build a few log cabins), bones of the children slain by King Herod, the toenails and bones of St. Peter, the bones of the Three Wise Kings and of St. Stephen (as well as his complete corpse, including another complete skeleton!), jars of the Virgin Mary's milk, the bones and several entire heads and pieces thereof that were allegedly once atop John the Baptist, 16 foreskins of Christ, Mary Magdalene's entire skeleton (with two right feet), scraps of bread and fish left over from feeding the 5,000, a crust of bread from the Last Supper, and a hair from Christ's beard - not to mention a few shrouds, including the one at Turin. ~ James Randi
John The Baptist quotes by James Randi
Repent, for the Kingdom of Heaven is near. ~ John The Baptist
John The Baptist quotes by John The Baptist
To seek the fulfillment of ourselves in God - that is, to seek only the blessings and refreshing of God, but not seek God for himself - this type of spirituality is the enemy of the cross of Christ. - ST. JOHN OF THE CROSS ~ Michael Brown
John The Baptist quotes by Michael Brown
The brazen throat of war. ~ John Milton
John The Baptist quotes by John Milton
And as he was capable of giant joy, so did he harbor huge sorrow, so that when his dog died the world ended. ~ John Steinbeck
John The Baptist quotes by John Steinbeck
There is a price to be paid for everything, and it is a good idea to find out that price before you make the agreement. ~ John Connolly
John The Baptist quotes by John Connolly
I write songs about real things ... The subject dictates the mood and it goes from there, really. ~ John Mayall
John The Baptist quotes by John Mayall
A police state finds that it cannot command the grain to grow. ~ John F. Kennedy
John The Baptist quotes by John F. Kennedy
all the statements made about God that imply body have some hidden meaning and teach us what is above us by means of something familiar to ourselves, with the exception of any statement concerning the bodily sojourn of the God-Word. ~ John Damascene
John The Baptist quotes by John Damascene
I want to tell this right. I was thirty-eight years old. I had spent my entire adult life reading meanings into other people's stories, finding the figure in the carpet, the order in things. God in the details and no place else. ~ John Burnham Schwartz
John The Baptist quotes by John Burnham Schwartz
The habits of a vigorous mind are formed in contending with difficulties. All history will convince you of this, and that wisdom and penetration are the fruit of experience, not the lessons of retirement and leisure. Great necessities call out great virtues. When a mind is raised and animated by scenes that engage the heart, then those qualities which would otherwise lie dormant wake into life and form the character of the hero and the statesman ... ' - Abigail Adams to her son John Quincy Adams, p. 379 ~ Irving Stone
John The Baptist quotes by Irving Stone
The key that unlocks the treasure chest of God's peace is faith in the promises of God. ~ John Piper
John The Baptist quotes by John Piper
I think forever is an incorrect concept," I answered.
He smirked. "You're an incorrect concept."
"I know. That's why I'm being taken out of the rotation". ~ John Green
John The Baptist quotes by John Green
The Fflict recognized five genders: male, female, zhial, yal, and neuter. Aul was zhial, and ze liked zis pronouns accurately stated. I would too, in zis position. ~ John Scalzi
John The Baptist quotes by John Scalzi
If you spend too much time worrying about how other people perceive you, you'll never break the rules. ~ John Sculley
John The Baptist quotes by John Sculley
The EU and the U.S. often work together to develop international standards. This is the case in fighting terrorism and transnational crime, advancing trade liberalization, and combating piracy and intellectual property violations. ~ John Bruton
John The Baptist quotes by John Bruton
SHAME-BASED FAMILY RULES Each family system has several categories of rules. There are rules about celebrating and socializing, rules about touching and sexuality, rules about sickness and proper health care, rules about vacations and vocations, rules about household maintenance and the spending of money. Perhaps the most important rules are about feelings, interpersonal communication and parenting. Toxic shame is consciously transferred by means of shaming rules. In shame-based families, the rules consciously shame all the members. Generally, however, the children receive the major brunt of the shame. Power is a cover-up for shame. Power is frequently hierarchical. ~ John Bradshaw
John The Baptist quotes by John Bradshaw
Man's life, as required by his nature, is not the life of a mindless brute, of a looting thug or a mooching mystic, but the life of a thinking being - not life by means of force or fraud, but life by means of achievement - not survival at any price, since there's only one price that pays for man's survival: reason. ~ Ayn Rand
John The Baptist quotes by Ayn Rand
I was a French Quarter rat from the moment I could get on a bus by myself and go to the French Quarter. I played music most of my early life and it just seemed that to entertain people was a really good thing to do. ~ John Larroquette
John The Baptist quotes by John Larroquette
Books can be immensely powerful. The ideas in them can change the way people think. Yet it was the Nazis and Stalin's officers who committed terrible crimes, and not Mein Kampf or the Communist Manifesto - and of course, the Manifesto contained many key ideas that are still relevant and important today, long after Stalin has gone. There is a crucial distinction between the book and its effect - it's crucial because if you talk about a book being harmful rather than its effect you begin to legitimise censorship. Abhorrent ideas need to be challenged by better ones, not banned. ~ John Farndon
John The Baptist quotes by John Farndon
Speaking professionally, it was admirably done."
-John H. Watson-
-The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes- ~ Arthur Conan Doyle
John The Baptist quotes by Arthur Conan Doyle
Marriage is not mainly about prospering economically; it is mainly about displaying the covenant-keeping love between Christ and his church. Knowing Christ is more important than making a living. Treasuring Christ is more important than bearing children. Being united to Christ by faith is a greater source of marital success than perfect sex and double-income prosperity. ~ John Piper
John The Baptist quotes by John Piper
Although you should not erase your responsibility for the past, when you make the past your jailer, you destroy your future. It is such a great moment of liberation when you learn to forgive yourself, let the burden go, and walk out into a new path of promise and possibility. ~ John O'Donohue
John The Baptist quotes by John O'Donohue
I once saw a picture in the paper of John Hegley with 'poet' written on his knuckles, and I thought that was pretty cool, so I was quite up front about it. ~ Jon McGregor
John The Baptist quotes by Jon McGregor
Doubt requires more courage than conviction does, and more energy; because conviction is a resting place and doubt is infinite – it is a passionate exercise. You may come out of my play uncertain. You may want to be sure. Look down on that feeling. We've got to learn to live with a full measure of uncertainty. There is no last word. That's the silence under the chatter of our time. ~ John Patrick Shanley
John The Baptist quotes by John Patrick Shanley
I do voiceovers, but being on-camera and selling something? I wasn't really interested. And then I thought, well, wait a minute. Everybody's selling something. When you turn on the tube ... And then if you go to Europe or Asia, everyone is selling something. All the guys that don't want to be seen selling something here are selling something there. So I thought what the hell? ~ John Slattery
John The Baptist quotes by John Slattery
We get done with the game, and it's an absolute downpour 30 minutes later. That's when I thought God was telling me that's enough-time for you to go do something else. ~ John Elway
John The Baptist quotes by John Elway
Once you get into the groove of things and in the mood you are usually fine; it is before the event that you get nervous and irritable. ~ John Gallagher, Jr.
John The Baptist quotes by John Gallagher, Jr.
How happy he whose toil Has o'er his languid pow'rless limbs diffus'd A pleasing lassitude; he not in vain Invokes the gentle Deity of dreams. His pow'rs the most voluptuously dissolve In soft repose; on him the balmy dews Of Sleep with double nutriment descend. ~ John Armstrong
John The Baptist quotes by John Armstrong
The Church has a special duty to safeguard and strengthen the sacredness of the Eucharist. In our pluralistic and often deliberately secularized society, the living faith of the Christian community - a faith always aware of its rights vis-a-vis those who do not share the faith - ensures respect for this sacredness ~ Pope John Paul II
John The Baptist quotes by Pope John Paul II
If you could kick the posterior of the person who has hurt you the most, ... you wouldn't be able to sit down for six weeks. ~ John Hagee
John The Baptist quotes by John Hagee
In Hollywood if you're good looking, tall, have okay teeth and nice skin, the odds of being successful are great. If you're short and fat, it's a different story. But as long as you look like a leading man type, half your job is done already. ~ John Corbett
John The Baptist quotes by John Corbett
The difference between Sales and Marketing is that Marketing owns the message and Sales owns the relationship. ~ John Jantsch
John The Baptist quotes by John Jantsch
thinking of us, our struggles and pain, grieves in me a song more dismal than the sparrows' protest to the morning rain ~ John J. Geddes
John The Baptist quotes by John J. Geddes
But his doom 54: Reserv'd him to more wrath; for now the thought 55: Both of lost happiness and lasting pain 56: Torments him; round he throws his baleful eyes 57: That witness'd huge affliction and dismay 58: Mixt with obdurate pride and stedfast hate: ~ John Milton
John The Baptist quotes by John Milton
Svengal lay groaning on the turf. His thighs were sheer agony. His buttocks ached. His calf muscles were on fire. Now, afterhe had tumbled off the small pony he was riding and thudded heavily to the turf on the point of his shoulder, the shoulder would hurt too. He concentrated on trying to find one part of his body that wasn't a giant source of pain and failed miserably. He opened his eyes. The first thing he saw was the face of the elderly pony that he had been riding peered down at him.
Now what made you do a strange thing like that? The creature seemed to be asking. ~ John Flanagan
John The Baptist quotes by John Flanagan
Strange, he thought, how seldom people tend to look up - Will ~ John Flanagan
John The Baptist quotes by John Flanagan
Envy is pain over the good fortune of others. ~ John Damascene
John The Baptist quotes by John Damascene
I never wanted to be the face of the brand. You haven't seen me in my own ads. You don't see my logo all over my clothes. From the beginning, I wanted the clothes to stand on their own. ~ John Varvatos
John The Baptist quotes by John Varvatos
The works of nature and the works of revelation display religion to mankind in characters so large and visible that those who are not quite blind may in them see and read the first principles and most necessary parts of it and from thence penet into those infinite depths filled with the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. ~ John Locke
John The Baptist quotes by John Locke
But effective regulation at the European Union level can make a massive contribution to achieving our shared goals of improving competitiveness, jobs and growth. ~ John Hutton
John The Baptist quotes by John Hutton
If nothing ended, then we'd all be stuck in the middle. ~ John Goode
John The Baptist quotes by John Goode
The poorest of the sex have still an itch To know their fortunes, equal to the rich. The dairy-maid inquires, if she shall take The trusty tailor, and the cook forsake. ~ John Dryden
John The Baptist quotes by John Dryden
The idea of evil is always subject to denial as a coping mechanism. ~ John Bradshaw
John The Baptist quotes by John Bradshaw
If God contains the fullness of all good things in Himself like an inexhaustible fountain, nothing beyond Him is to be sought by those who strike after the highest good and all the elements of happiness. ~ John Calvin
John The Baptist quotes by John Calvin
The job of training an Iraqi police force is one of the most important tasks being undertaken in Operation Iraqi Freedom. It is also one of the most difficult. ~ John Boehner
John The Baptist quotes by John Boehner
Before I got here, I thought for a long time that the way out of the labyrinth was to pretend that it did not exist, to build a small, self-sufficient world in the back corner of the endless maze and to pretend that I was not lost, but home. ~ John Green
John The Baptist quotes by John Green
Nothing goes further toward a man's liberation than the act of surviving his need for character. ~ John Ciardi
John The Baptist quotes by John Ciardi
If the Christian religion, as I understand it, or as you understand it, should maintain its ground, as I believe it will, yet Platonic, Pythagoric, Hindoo, and cabalistical Christianity, which is Catholic Christianity, and which has prevailed for 1500 years, has received a mortal wound, of which the monster must finally die. Yet so strong is his constitution, that he may endure for centuries before he expires. ~ John Adams
