CREAM CHEESE FROSTING FOR RED VELVET SURPRISE CUPCAKES 4 ounces cream cheese (I used Philadelphia Brand in the rectangular silver package - half a package was 4 ounces) ¼ cup salted butter (½ stick, 2 ounces, pound) 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 2 cups powdered sugar (pack it down in the cup when you measure it) Place the cream cheese and the butter in a medium-size microwave-safe bowl. (I used a quart measuring cup.) Microwave on HIGH for 30 seconds. Stir. If you can stir the cream cheese and the butter smooth, take the bowl out and put it on the counter. If it's still not soft enough to stir, microwave on HIGH in 20-second intervals until it is. Add the vanilla extract to your bowl and stir that in. Add the powdered sugar, a half-cup at a time, stirring after each addition. Continue to add powdered sugar until the frosting is spreadable, not runny. ~ Joanne Fluke
Joanne quotes by Joanne Fluke
Minnesotans who bought scenic art usually avoided winter scenes. Hannah didn't find that surprising. Minnesota winters were long. Why would they want to buy a painting that would constantly remind them of the bone-chilling cold, the heavy snow that had to be shoveled, and the necessity of dressing up in survival gear to do nothing more than take out the garbage? ~ Joanne Fluke
Joanne quotes by Joanne Fluke
You are what you teach, and you teach what you are. ~ Joanne Calderwood

Joanne quotes by Joanne Harris
I don't tend to do category fiction very well. One of my problems when I was starting off was that publishers were hesitant to handle my books because they were never sure what I was going to do next. ~ Joanne Harris
Joanne quotes by Joanne Harris
There's an interesting mix to 'Robin Hood' because it's kind of modern but medieval. There is a blend of adventure with a very modern feel. ~ Joanne Froggatt
Joanne quotes by Joanne Froggatt
Wild birds will kill exotic ones: the budgies and the lovebirds and the yellow canaries
escaped from their cages and hoping to get a taste of the sky
usually end up back on the ground, plucked raw by their more conformist cousins ~ Joanne Harris
Joanne quotes by Joanne Harris
A scientist must be a traveller, an explorer. Knowledge comes from experience. ... The path to enlightenment is never linear. ~ Joanne Owen
Joanne quotes by Joanne Owen
There was a quote he could not quite remember, something about the past being an island surrounded by time. He had missed the last boat to the island. ~ Joanne Harris
Joanne quotes by Joanne Harris
There's also a lot of random stuff about poetry, flowers and lute music, plus kissing and cuddling (lots of this), wearing similar outfits, talking incessantly about the current object of devotion, and generally losing one's faculties. ~ Joanne Harris
Joanne quotes by Joanne Harris
I find it almost impossible to throw a book away. Anyway, what some call hoarding, others might call building a library. So, I can justify my books. I believe I justify them in a perfectly rational way. ~ Joanne Limburg
Joanne quotes by Joanne Limburg
How are you feeling Sweet Peach?" he enquires as he walks across to the chest of drawers, selects a pair of socks and pulls them on.
Sweet Peach? What the hell?
He's definitely gay ...
I shrug. "Er ... okay, I guess. I really don't remember much though. How did I get here ... and why am I wearing your t-shirt?" I ask hesitantly, afraid of the answer.
Hagen laughs nervously. "I brought you home when you couldn't tell me where you lived. And don't worry, you got changed all by yourself ... in the kitchen ... for like an hour. ~ Joanne McClean
Joanne quotes by Joanne McClean

Joanne quotes by Joanne Harris
It's a fine line we walk on 'Warehouse 13.' We really earn our dramatic moments, but our tongues are always firmly in our cheeks. If we take ourselves too seriously, we get into trouble. ~ Joanne Kelly
Joanne quotes by Joanne Kelly
Words are potential weapons so use them wisely. ~ Joanne Madeline Moore
Joanne quotes by Joanne Madeline Moore
I strongly believe it based on trust, we confide in each other. In my opinion when a girl feels loved, she blooms like a flower. Joanne quotes by Jenelle Joanne Ramsami

Joanne quotes by Joanne Guidoccio
After everything, what we have left is not what we make to have a living but what we make out of living. ~ Joanne Crisner Alcayaga
Joanne quotes by Joanne Crisner Alcayaga
Now into the small ceramic pan I grate the block of couverture. Almost at once the scent rises, the dark and loamy scent of bitter chocolate from the block. At this concentration it is slow to melt; the chocolate is very low in fat, and I will have to add butter and cream to the mixture to bring it to truffle consistency. But now it smells of history; of the mountains and forests of South America' of felled wood and spilled sap and campfire smoke. It smells of incense and patchouli; of the black gold of the Maya and the red gold of the Aztec; of stone and dust and of a young girl with flowers in her hair and a cup of pulque in her hand.
It is intoxicating; as it melts, the chocolate becomes glossy; steam rises from the copper pan, and the scent grows richer, blossoming into cinnamon and allspice and nutmeg; dark undertones of anise and espresso; brighter notes of vanilla and ginger. Now it is almost melted through. A gentle vapor rises from the pan. Now we have the true Theobroma, the elixir of the gods in volatile form, and in the steam I can almost see-
A young girl dancing with the moon. A rabbit follows at her heels. Behind her stands a woman with her head in shadow, so that for a moment she seems to look three ways-
But now the steam is getting too thick. The chocolate must be no warmer than forty-six degrees. Too hot, and the chocolate will scorch and streak. Too cool, and it will bloom white and dull. I know by the scent and the level of steam that we ar ~ Joanne Harris
Joanne quotes by Joanne Harris
My agent asked if I fancied Robin Hood and I thought: 'Yeah, why not?' I hadn't watched it, to be honest, but I'd seen bits and knew it was really popular Saturday family viewing with heaps of action. I thought it would be great fun. I was up for a good old play-fighting and the scripts were terrifically exciting. ~ Joanne Froggatt
Joanne quotes by Joanne Froggatt

Joanne quotes by Joanne Guidoccio
Gods? Don't let that impress you. Anyone can be a god if they have enough worshippers. You don't even have to have powers anymore. In my time I've seen theatre gods, gladiator gods, even storyteller gods - you people see gods everywhere. Gives you an excuse for not thinking for yourselves.
God is just a word. Like Fury. like demon, Just words people use for things they don't understand. Reverse it and you get dog. It's just as appropriate. ~ Joanne Harris
Joanne quotes by Joanne Harris
He throws me a wide grin. "Ooh, calmed down then, have we? I must say, your death threats are quite refreshing – they're a nice little step up from telling me to get my head out of my ass."
I shoot him daggers. "Bite me."
"Wow, I had no idea you were into that shit." he quips with a wicked grin.
"And I had no idea that you could reach a new level of asshole. ~ Joanne McClean

Joanne quotes by Joanne Madeline Moore
I stroked his long, appreciative back, all the way to the tip of his striped tail, and thought how frustrating it was that we can take such liberties with animals, but not with people. I wanted to stroke her head -this girl I secretly knew was called Flynn. ~ Joanne Horniman
Joanne quotes by Joanne Horniman
Why can't they see, mon père? Why can't they see what the woman is doing to us? Breaking down our community spirit, our sense of purpose. playing on what is worst and weakest in the secret heart. Earning for herself a kind of affection, of loyalty that - God help me! - I am weak enough to covet. ~ Joanne Harris
Joanne quotes by Joanne Harris
You don't write because someone sets assignments! You write because you need to write, or because you hope someone will listen or because writing will mend something broken inside you or bring something back to life. ~ Joanne Harris
Joanne quotes by Joanne Harris

Joanne quotes by Joanne Jaytanie
It's too early for strawberries. But the clearing is filled with their leaves and their little white flowers, like fallen stars. The wishing well was covered, too, so that only someone who knew it was there would have really noticed it. It looks like a barrow under the green; somewhere fairies or goblins might live. ~ Joanne Harris
Joanne quotes by Joanne Harris
Yeah, well there's also a word for someone like you ... womaniser. ~ Joanne McClean
Joanne quotes by Joanne McClean
In true-life dramas, you have to do so much research. It's a big responsibility to make sure things are as correct as possible. In 'Robin Hood', you have more artistic license - it's all action, adventure and reaction. This gives everyone a chance to make their characters their own and to make them believable. ~ Joanne Froggatt
Joanne quotes by Joanne Froggatt
Empty calories taste so good when you're down in the dumps. ~ Joanne Rocklin

Joanne quotes by Joanne Van Leerdam
If I want to die, what am I saving myself for? ~ Joanne Greenberg
Joanne quotes by Joanne Greenberg
And yet I could still hear them. As if some part of their essence had evaporated into the air, become a part of this place, ingrained, like the scent of cigarettes and burning sugar, in the woodwork and plaster. Everything was buzzing with that vanished presence, buzzing and singing and laughing louder than ever before, stone and tile and polished wood, all whispering with agitation and excitement; never still, never silent. ~ Joanne Harris
Joanne quotes by Joanne Harris

Joanne quotes by Joanne Clancy
I'm sorry I'm young," Deborah answered with a bitterness that was half prose. "We have a right to be as crazy as anyone else."
The second part was more a plea, and to her surprise the superbly inhuman fighter smiled softly and said, "Yes ... I suppose that's true, though I never thought of it in those terms before. ~ Joanne Greenberg
Joanne quotes by Joanne Greenberg
I believe in family values and following your dreams. ~ JoAnne Myers
Joanne quotes by JoAnne Myers
Yr had a region called the Fear-bog. Lactamaeon had taken her there once to see the monsters and corpses of her nightmares accumulating there from year after year of terrifying dreams. They had swum through the almost solid ground.
She had said, What is that awful stench?
Shame and secrecy, Bird-one, shame and secrecy, he had answered. ~ Joanne Greenberg

I'm insatiably curious. ~ Joanne Harris
Joanne quotes by Joanne Harris
He looked at me intently before speaking. "Why do you do that?"
I frowned at him. "Do what?"
"Push everyone away." Danny told me simply.
I was a little stunned and when I didn't say anything, Danny continued on.
"Darcie, what are you so afraid of? Why do you shut people out?" He looked at me searchingly.
"Because it's easier that way!" I yelled at him suddenly and he looked taken aback.
I took a deep breath to calm down and added, "And I don't like feeling vulnerable."
Danny stared at me. "Being vulnerable is nothing to be ashamed of Darcie …it's what makes us human."
I shook my head furiously. "No! Being vulnerable makes you weak – just like every other emotion … if you allow yourself to care, you only end up getting hurt."
Danny threw me a consoling look. "But there's nothing wrong with caring –"
"No!" I interrupted angrily. "I don't want to care! You only end up getting hurt … and it hurts so bad that you can't breathe. I don't want to feel like that. I don't want to feel at all! It's just easier to shut everyone out … if you don't care about them – you won't get hurt! ~ Joanne McClean
Joanne quotes by Joanne McClean

Joanne quotes by Joanne Owen

Joanne quotes by Joanne Fluke
But history has been adapted here, re-spun to tell Jan's tale: the story of a boy caught up in a world of change and opportunity, trickery and wonder. A story inspired by a city and its legends. ~ Joanne Owen
Joanne quotes by Joanne Owen
Wine talks; ask anyone. The oracle at the street corner; the uninvited guest at the wedding feast; the holy fool. It ventriloquizes. It has a million voices. It unleashes the tongue, teasing out secrets you never meant to tell, secrets you never even knew. It shouts, rants, whispers. It speaks of great plans, tragic loves, and terrible betrayals. It screams with laughter. It chuckles softly to itself. It weeps in front of its own reflection. It revives summers long past and memories best forgotten. Every bottle a whiff of other times, other places, everyone ... a humble miracle ~ Joanne Harris
Joanne quotes by Joanne Harris
I like autumn. The drama of it; the golden lion roaring through the back door of the year, shaking its mane of leaves. A dangerous time; of violent rages and deceptive calm, of fireworks in the pockets and conkers in the fist. ~ Joanne Harris
Joanne quotes by Joanne Harris
A named thing is a tamed thing. ~ Joanne Harris
Joanne quotes by Joanne Harris
She supported a deal that didn't even require this murderous regime to return a cop killer, JoAnne Chesimard, to face justice. See I know about this personally. ~ Chris Christie
Joanne quotes by Chris Christie
Anything that can be dreamed is true. ~ Joanne Harris
Joanne quotes by Joanne Harris
MUSIC MAY NOT MAKE YOU A GENIUS, or rich, or even a better person. But it helps train you to think differently, to process different points of view - and most important, to take pleasure in listening. ~ Joanne Lipman
Joanne quotes by Joanne Lipman
Whatever you decide to keep hidden could implode later, with disastrous results. ~ Joanne Guidoccio
Joanne quotes by Joanne Guidoccio
And if I never have a veil, or a golden ring on my hand, I will still have you, my love, and that will be enough for me. Sleep well, love, and dream of me. And know that, if I were to live for a thousand years, there would still not be enough nights in which to dream of you. ~ Joanne Harris
Joanne quotes by Joanne Harris
The trouble with me is I think too much. I always said you have to be dumb to play good golf. ~ JoAnne Carner

Joanne quotes by JoAnne Carner
A demon, if you prefer the term; although to be honest, the difference between god and a demon is really only a matter of perspective. ~ Joanne Harris
Joanne quotes by Joanne Harris
That wind. I see it's blowing now. Furtive but commanding, it has dictated every move we've ever made. My mother felt it, and so do I - even here, even now - as it sweeps us like leaves into his backseat corner, dancing us to shreds against the stones. V'la l'bon vent, v'a l'joli vent. I though we'd silenced it for good. But the smallest thing can wake the wind@ a word, a sign, even a death. There's no such thing as a trivial thing. Everything costs; it all adds up until finally the balance shifts and we're gone again, back on the road, telling ourselves - well maybe next time ~ Joanne Harris
Joanne quotes by Joanne Harris
Children are knives, my mother once said. They don't mean to, but they cut. And yet we cling to them, don't we, we clasp them until the blood flows. ~ Joanne Harris
Joanne quotes by Joanne Harris
Lecture your children every day. You may not know what they did wrong, but they do! ~ Joanne Fluke
Joanne quotes by Joanne Fluke
Eggs possess an elemental power. Their outer shell is earth. Their white is water. The membrane that lines the shell is air, and the yolk at the core is fire. The core of the egg preserves life and being, and therefore represents heaven and earth, while the white represents chaos. ~ Joanne Owen
Joanne quotes by Joanne Owen
As I get older, my skin shows more of how I am feeling, like a mirror. If I am stressed, or not getting enough sleep, I see it in my face right away. ~ Joanne Froggatt
Joanne quotes by Joanne Froggatt
It's nice to bring the changes with everything you do. As an actor, that's what you want to do, all the time. ~ Joanne Froggatt
Joanne quotes by Joanne Froggatt
If one is to be doomed, one must be beautiful, or the drama is only a comedy. ~ Joanne Greenberg
Joanne quotes by Joanne Greenberg
Candy loved to shop and she couldn't seem to shop smiling. They'd gone out the front door of The Cookie Jar and into the next building over. There were party dresses on the mannequins in the windows, and Hannah has said they were going to buy something for her to wear to the party tomorrow night. ~ Joanne Fluke
Joanne quotes by Joanne Fluke
Sometimes, being told not to do something just makes us want it all the more. Sometimes, a little of what you crave is better than total abstinence. ~ Joanne Harris
Joanne quotes by Joanne Harris
They sit beside each other on one of the sofas, Warwick leaning forward with his elbows on his knees, Joanne resting back with her arms behind her head. Never known as advocates of establishmentarianism, they have been applauded, ridiculed, and misunderstood by the media, and, in particular, criticized for their avarice. They have agreed to do this interview without "cabbage" (payment), but generally charge ten to twenty thousand dollars for the privilege. Even so, why should they be castigated for exploiting a medium that has exploited them? They see the situation simply enough: quid pro quo, and hold the mustard. ~ Antonella Gambotto-Burke
Joanne quotes by Antonella Gambotto-Burke
As Stephen Krashen and Joanne Ujiie (2005) assert, "Many people are fearful that if children engage in 'light reading,' if they read comics and magazines they will stay with this kind of reading forever, that they will never go on to more 'serious' reading. The opposite appears to be the case. The evidence suggests that light reading provides the competence and motivation to continue reading and to read more demanding texts" (p. 6). ~ Donalyn Miller
Joanne quotes by Donalyn Miller
We have travelled into the past and returned to find that our present is not quite the same as we left it. Atticus Finch will never again be the white knight we once thought him.
And yet the mockingbird still sings - no longer a song of innocence, but maybe one of experience; a song that combines sorrow, forgiveness - and, ultimately, a kind of hope. ~ Joanne Harris
Joanne quotes by Joanne Harris
There's no such thing as magic," I said.
"Then call it something else." She shrugged. "Call it attitude, if you like. Call it charisma, or chutzpah, or glamour, or charm. Because basically it's just about standing straight, looking people in the eye, shooting them a killer smile, and saying, fuck off, I'm fabulous. ~ Joanne Harris
Joanne quotes by Joanne Harris
Curiosity breeds discovery. ~ Joanne Owen
Joanne quotes by Joanne Owen
Danny looked stunned. "But what about the people who care about you?"
I shook my head. "They shouldn't waste their time … I'm not gonna change. I can't be fixed Danny!"
I wiped ferociously at the tears that were falling down my cheeks and threw him a challenging look.
"I'm not trying to fix you Darcie." Danny told me softly, his eyes boring into mine. "But you have to realise that everyone's a little bit broken and all they need is someone to help fill in the holes and cracks – that's all. ~ Joanne McClean
Joanne quotes by Joanne McClean
My skin doesn't look as good when I'm not eating enough fruits and vegetables, so I try to eat plenty. ~ Joanne Froggatt

Joanne quotes by Joanne Fluke
If you can actually get someone to sit on the edge of their seat and feel nervous if there's a knock at the door, then you've done something pretty terrific as a writer. ~ Joanne Harris
Joanne quotes by Joanne Harris
My heroes and heroines are often unlikely people who are dragged into situations without meaning to become involved, or people with a past that has never quite left them. They are often isolated, introspective people, often confrontational or anarchic in some way, often damaged or secretly unhappy or incomplete. ~ Joanne Harris
Joanne quotes by Joanne Harris
He drank, for the same reason he wrote second-rate science fiction. Not to forget but to remember, to open the past and find himself there again. He opened each bottle, began each story with the secret conviction that here was the magic drought that would restore him. But magic, like wine, needs the right conditions in order to work. ~ Joanne Harris
Joanne quotes by Joanne Harris
That's why I named my bakery Flour. It's a reminder that in baking, as in life, simple things are best. ~ Joanne Chang
Joanne quotes by Joanne Chang
