I don't think it's going to work out. Winning ... won't help in any case. Because ... she came here with me. - Peeta Mellark ~ Suzanne Collins
Hunger Games Peeta quotes by Suzanne Collins
Yeah, about that," says Peeta, entwining his fingers in mine. "Don't try something like that again." "Or what?" I ask. "Or ... or ... " He can't think of anything good. "Just give me a minute. ~ Suzanne Collins
Hunger Games Peeta quotes by Suzanne Collins
Only I keep wishing I could think of a way ... to show the Capitol they don't own me. That I'm more than just a piece in their Games. ~ Suzanne Collins
Hunger Games Peeta quotes by Suzanne Collins
Get out!" He dodges the pillow I throw at him. "Go away! There's nothing left for you here!" I start to shake, furious with him. "She's not coming back! She's never ever coming back here again!" I grab another pillow and get to my feet to improve my aim. Out of nowhere, the tears begin to pour down my cheeks. "She's dead." I clutch my middle to dull the pain. Sink down on my heels, rocking the pillow, crying. "She's dead, you stupid cat. She's dead. ~ Suzanne Collins
Hunger Games Peeta quotes by Suzanne Collins
There are much worse games to play. ~ Suzanne Collins
Hunger Games Peeta quotes by Suzanne Collins
Jackson has devised a game called "Real or Not Real" to help Peeta. He mentions something he thinks happened, and they tell him if it's true or imagined, usually followed by a brief explanation. ~ Suzanne Collins
Hunger Games Peeta quotes by Suzanne Collins
Happy Hunger Games! And may the odds be ever in your favor. ~ Suzanne Collins
Hunger Games Peeta quotes by Suzanne Collins
I have to admit I didn't see it coming. I saw a multitude of other things. Being publicly humiliated, tortured, and executed. Fleeing through the wilderness, pursued by Peacekeepers and hovercraft. Marriage to Peeta with our children forced into the arena. But never that I myself would have to be a player in the Games again. ~ Suzanne Collins
Hunger Games Peeta quotes by Suzanne Collins
Let the Hunger Games Begin! ~ Suzanne Collins
Hunger Games Peeta quotes by Suzanne Collins
You've got about as much charm as a dead slug. ~ Suzanne Collins
Hunger Games Peeta quotes by Suzanne Collins
If I'm going to cry, now is the time. By morning, I'll be able to wash all the damage done by the tears from my face. But no tears come. I'm too tired or too numb to cry. The only thing I feel is a desire to be somewhere else. So I let the train rock me into oblivion. ~ Suzanne Collins
Hunger Games Peeta quotes by Suzanne Collins
Katniss, got that spile? Finnick asks, snapping me back to reality. ~ Suzanne Collins
Hunger Games Peeta quotes by Suzanne Collins
With 'Hunger Games,' it's about people rising up to fight against a corrupt government that controls them. ~ Woody Harrelson
Hunger Games Peeta quotes by Woody Harrelson
Wars are won by heads not hearts. ~ Suzanne Collins
Hunger Games Peeta quotes by Suzanne Collins
The Hunger games is the worst written work ever made. ~ Deyth Banger
Hunger Games Peeta quotes by Deyth Banger
I refused to fight them-to beat up on them or potentially kill them if things got out of hand. It was like being in a real, albeit messed-up, version of "The Hunger Games".
"The Hunger Games" for alien hybrids. ~ Jennifer L. Armentrout
Hunger Games Peeta quotes by Jennifer L. Armentrout
Star-crossed lovers desperate to get home together. Two hearts beating as one. Romance. ~ Suzanne Collins
Hunger Games Peeta quotes by Suzanne Collins
Despite a seemingly pervasive belief that only people of colour 'play the race
card', it does not take anything as dramatic as a slave revolution or Japanese
imperialism to evoke white racial anxieties, something as trivial as the casting of
non-white people in films or plays in which a character was 'supposed' to be
white will do the trick. For example, the casting of Olivier award-winning
actress Noma Dumezweni to play the role of Hermione in the debut West End
production of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child got bigots so riled up that J. K.
Rowling felt the need to respond and give her blessing for a black actress to play
the role. A similar but much larger controversy occurred when the character Rue
in the film The Hunger Games was played by a black girl, Amandla Stenberg.
Even though Rue is described as having brown skin in the original novel, 'fans'

of the book were shocked and dismayed that the movie version cast a brown girl
to play the role, and a Twitter storm of abuse about the ethnic casting of the role
ensued. You have to read the responses to truly appreciate how angry and
abusive they are.- As blogger Dodai Stewart pointed out at the time:

All these . . . people . . . read The Hunger Games. Clearly, they all fell in
love with and cared about Rue. Though what they really fell in love with was
an image of Rue that they'd created in their minds. ~ Akala
Hunger Games Peeta quotes by Akala
[On The Hunger Games success]: It hit on the zeitgeist of the disparity b/w the haves and have nots. ~ Nina Jacobson
Hunger Games Peeta quotes by Nina Jacobson
I'm interested in a lot. Like right now, I'm just really excited for 'Catching Fire' and 'Mockingjay' Part 1 and 2. But I love playing characters like Prim - I mean, Prim is like my dream character - but after 'The Hunger Games', it would be fun to look and see what else I could do well. But right now, Prim is like my dream role. ~ Willow Shields
Hunger Games Peeta quotes by Willow Shields
When you read a book [The Hunger Games], you create that tonal bandwidth. You set a tone for yourself, as you're reading it, in which everything exists within the world of your imagination. In the book, it's great when she can push a button and food comes up, as per your order. ~ Nina Jacobson
Hunger Games Peeta quotes by Nina Jacobson
Really, the combination of the scabs and the ointment looks hideous. I can't help enjoying his distress.
"Poor Finnick. Is this the first time in your life you haven't looked pretty?" I say.
"It must be. The sensation's completely new. How have you managed it all these years?" he asks.
"Just avoid mirrors. You'll forget about it," I say.
"Not if I keep looking at you," he says. ~ Suzanne Collins
Hunger Games Peeta quotes by Suzanne Collins
Being older, I began to understand the lyrics. At the beginning, it sounds like a guy is trying to get his girlfriend to secretly meet up with him at midnight. But it's an odd place for a tryst, a hanging tree, where a man was hung for murder. The murderer's lover must have had something to do with the killing, or maybe they were just going to punish her anyway, because his corpse called out for her to flee. That's weird obviously, the talking-corpse bit, but it's not until the third verse that "The Hanging Tree" begins to get unnerving. You realize the singer of the song is the dead murderer. He's still in the hanging tree. And even though he told his lover to flee, he keeps asking if she's coming to meet him. The phrase Where I told you to run, so we'd both be free is the most troubling because at first you think he's talking about when he told her to flee, presumably to safety. But then you wonder if he meant for her to run to him. To death. In the final stanza, it's clear that that's what he was waiting for. His lover, with her rope necklace, hanging dead next to him in the tree.

I used to think the murderer was the creepiest guy imaginable. Now, with a couple of trips to the Hunger Games under my belt, I decide not to judge him without knowing more details. Maybe his lover was already sentenced to death and he was trying to make it easier. To let her know he'd be waiting. Or maybe he thought the place he was leaving her was really worse than death. Didn't I wa ~ Suzanne Collins
Hunger Games Peeta quotes by Suzanne Collins
Cecily, Cecily. Foolish girl, to think herself enamored with a beast. She could have no conception of Luke's animal side. There were times during the war he'd been stripped down to it - become a base, feral creature that knew only hunger, sweat and the smells of blood and fear.
She was dreaming after a myth: a gentleman who dallied as a noble beast, rescuing damsels in some enchanted forest. With Luke, she would get a beast wearing the clothes of a man. An uncivilized creature who'd lost all enjoyment in balls and parlor games, who'd forgotten the words to all her trite little songs of green meadows and shepherds and love.
Enjoy your fantasy world, Cecily. Let me visit you there, from time to time.
-Luke's thoughts ~ Tessa Dare
Hunger Games Peeta quotes by Tessa Dare
Trust is important. I think it's more important than love. I mean, I love all kinds of things I don't trust. Thunderstorms... white liquor... snakes. Sometimes I think I love them because I can't trust them, and how mixed up is that? ~ Suzanne Collins
Hunger Games Peeta quotes by Suzanne Collins
It seems like everyone I know has very strong feelings about which boy is the best fit for Katniss, but also because the books themselves contain a commentary on the way audiences latch onto romance, even (and maybe especially) when lives are at
stake. ~ Jennifer Lynn Barnes
Hunger Games Peeta quotes by Jennifer Lynn Barnes
Little decisions were made, every day. In this movie [The Hunger Games], we really focused on Cinna and we didn't get time to focus on the other stylist. ~ Nina Jacobson
Hunger Games Peeta quotes by Nina Jacobson
Destroying things is much easier than making them. ~ Suzanne Collins
Hunger Games Peeta quotes by Suzanne Collins
I said that i would try to win, but to win for her. ~ Suzanne Collins
Hunger Games Peeta quotes by Suzanne Collins
I wrote 'The Hunger Games' in a chair, like a La-Z-Boy chair, next to my bed. I had an office, but my kids sort of took it over. ~ Suzanne Collins
Hunger Games Peeta quotes by Suzanne Collins
Now there are three guys who directed "Twilight" films that had a gross of a gazillion dollars. All those "Hunger Games" guys, the "Divergent" guys. All those people. When they are looking for the next big director, they see they have a track record. So there's 20 people that spun off of "Twilight" that have more qualifications than any woman. ~ Catherine Hardwicke
Hunger Games Peeta quotes by Catherine Hardwicke
In other people's books, I tend to love the really daredevil-y characters. I love Finnick from 'The Hunger Games.' And I think, probably, my favorite character of all time is Sherlock Holmes. ~ Cassandra Clare
Hunger Games Peeta quotes by Cassandra Clare
Deb Zane, our casting director on the Hunger Games was very sanguine, from the beginning, about just blocking out what everybody else says that they want. ~ Nina Jacobson
Hunger Games Peeta quotes by Nina Jacobson
My spirit. This is a new thought. I'm not sure exactly what it means, but it suggests I'm a fighter. In a sort of brave way. It's not as if I'm never friendly. Okay, maybe I don't go around loving everybody I meet, maybe my smiles are hard to come by, but i do care for some people. ~ Suzanne Collins
Hunger Games Peeta quotes by Suzanne Collins
Well, don't expect us to be too impressed. We just saw Finnick Odair in his underwear. ~ Suzanne Collins
Hunger Games Peeta quotes by Suzanne Collins
In the greed-is-good tradition of the 'Harry Potter' and 'Twilight' movie franchises, the overseers of 'The Hunger Games' have split the last book into two films. ~ Richard Corliss
Hunger Games Peeta quotes by Richard Corliss
Whatever strength, courage... madness keeps us going, we find it, in times like these. You have it, soldier. It's what kept you alive all this time. ~ Danny Strong
Hunger Games Peeta quotes by Danny Strong
But Mockingjays were never a weapon," said Madge. "They're just songbirds. Right?"
"Yeah, I guess so," I said, But it's not true. A mockingbird is just a songbird. A mockingjay is a creature the capitol never intended to exist. They hadn't counted on the highly controlled jabberjay having the brains to adapt to the wild, to thrive in a new form. They hadn't anticipated its will to live. ~ Suzanne Collins
Hunger Games Peeta quotes by Suzanne Collins
We didn't want to dilute or soften the material because that would really be irresponsible, in its own way. The [Hunger Games] books are very intense and very demanding of the reader, and the movie should be that too. ~ Nina Jacobson
Hunger Games Peeta quotes by Nina Jacobson
Because I can count on my fingers the number of sunsets I have left, and I don't want to miss any of them. ~ Suzanne Collins
Hunger Games Peeta quotes by Suzanne Collins
When I make a pretty good hook ( ... ) she gives me a toothless smile and an unintelligeble comment I think might be praise. ~ Suzanne Collins
Hunger Games Peeta quotes by Suzanne Collins
The racket reverberates down the second staircase and spills out into the kitchen, and the two screeching, running kids who are making it do laps around the island like a fucked-up Hunger Games version of ring-around-the-rosy. ~ Emma Chase
Hunger Games Peeta quotes by Emma Chase
I couldn't be happier about being a part of 'Hunger Games' and to play Katniss. I have a huge responsibility to the fans of this incredible book and I don't take it lightly. I will give everything I have to these movies and to this role to make it worthy of Suzanne Collins' masterpiece. ~ Jennifer Lawrence
Hunger Games Peeta quotes by Jennifer Lawrence
When i was 9 I didn't go to Narnia, when i grew 11 my Hogwarts letter didn't come, again when i was twelve my satyr didn't come and now I'll wait till I'm fifty maybe the hunger games will come ~ Javeria My Own Quote
Hunger Games Peeta quotes by Javeria My Own Quote
So many people look up to Jennifer Lawrence playing Katniss in 'The Hunger Games.' For them to look up to Rey and what she represents would be fantastic. She's a wonderful character ... The reason I love her so much is she does all the fun stuff. She fights, runs and protects herself and has an incredible emotional story. ~ Daisy Ridley
Hunger Games Peeta quotes by Daisy Ridley
I think Jennifer Lawrence is that inside of herself. As long as I've known her she's been both 10 years old and 50 years old. And we've watched her grow up since she walked on "Silver Linings Playbook" as a 20-year-old and had not been - "Hunger Games" had not come out. And I've watched her have to take on and deal with a great deal of attention and resources and people. ~ David O. Russell
Hunger Games Peeta quotes by David O. Russell
To be joining 'The Hunger Games' family is such a thrill. It deserves the hype because it's well written, handles really big subject matter, but doesn't talk down to its audience. And then there's the romance element. ~ Natalie Dormer
Hunger Games Peeta quotes by Natalie Dormer
I looked up at the video camera and stared. Then raised my hand and gave it the middle finger.
"I thought you were going to give it the District Twelve salute," Jamie said. ~ Michelle Hodkin
Hunger Games Peeta quotes by Michelle Hodkin
Being able to just stick to our instincts and honor the [Hunger Games] books and find a way to stay the course of trying to make the best possible decisions that you would make creatively on any movie, without having your head turned too much by all of the interest, has been a great challenge. It's the best challenge you could ask for, but that was a big challenge. ~ Nina Jacobson
Hunger Games Peeta quotes by Nina Jacobson
I read the three 'Hunger Games' books in a week and because I liked them so much I wrote 'Just a Game.' ~ Birdy
Hunger Games Peeta quotes by Birdy
For me, the triad of 'Harry Potter,' the 'Hunger Games' and 'Twilight' feature strong women, and as a declared feminist, it's a wonderful thing. These women have really opened up this particular world of storytelling, which I'm very grateful for. ~ Cassandra Clare
