Fire is catching! And if we burn, you burn with us! ~ Suzanne Collins
Catching Fire quotes by Suzanne Collins
I think the hardcore fans can expect exactly what both 'The Hunger Games' and 'Catching Fire' delivered: 'Mockingjay' is going to be as faithful a rendition of Suzanne's Collins's world and books and characters as we can put out! ~ Elizabeth Banks
Catching Fire quotes by Elizabeth Banks
Well I've got a thick skin and an elastic heart ~ Choon Ling Sia
Catching Fire quotes by Choon Ling Sia
I don't like self-righteous people," I say.
"What's to like?" says Haymitch, who begins sucking the dregs out of the empty bottles. ~ Suzanne Collins
Catching Fire quotes by Suzanne Collins
I don't know what I expected from my first meeting with Peeta after the announcement. A few hugs and kisses. A little comfort maybe. Not this. I turn to Haymitch. Don't worry, I'll get you more liquor. ~ Suzanne Collins
Catching Fire quotes by Suzanne Collins
We star-crossed lovers of District 12, who suffered so much and enjoyed so little the rewards of our victory, do not seek our fans' favor, grace them with our smiles, or catch their kisses. We are unforgiving.
And I love it. Getting to be myself at last. ~ Suzanne Collins
Catching Fire quotes by Suzanne Collins
Despite recent speculation in the media, and after difficult but sincere consideration, I have decided not to direct 'Catching Fire.' As a writer and a director, I simply don't have the time I need to write and prep the movie I would have wanted to make, because of the fixed and tight production schedule. ~ Gary Ross
Catching Fire quotes by Gary Ross
Technically, I am unarmed. But no one should ever underestimate the harm that fingernails can do. Especially if the target is unprepared. ~ Suzanne Collins
Catching Fire quotes by Suzanne Collins
I want to spend every possible minute of the rest of my life with you. -Peeta Mellark ~ Suzanne Collins
Catching Fire quotes by Suzanne Collins
My heart is beating so fast and fierce I hardly hear them. ~ Suzanne Collins
Catching Fire quotes by Suzanne Collins
Whose is it, do you think?" I say finally.
"No telling," says Finnick. "Why don't we let Peeta claim it, since he died today? ~ Suzanne Collins
Catching Fire quotes by Suzanne Collins
I am in no mood to fulminate on paper
I wish the two of us were in a room together talking of what matters most, the air thick with affinity. In January a man crawls into a cave of hopelessness; he hallucinates sympathies catching fire. Letters are glaciers, null frigates, trapping us where we are in the moment, unable to carry us on toward truth. ~ Carlene Bauer
Catching Fire quotes by Carlene Bauer
Katniss, got that spile? Finnick asks, snapping me back to reality. ~ Suzanne Collins
Catching Fire quotes by Suzanne Collins
Katniss Everdeen, the girl who was on fire, you have provided a spark that, left unattended, may grow to an inferno that destroys Panem, he says. ~ Suzanne Collins
Catching Fire quotes by Suzanne Collins
The soul is but senses catching fire,
Marvellous music of the body's lyre, -
The angel senses are the silver strings
Stirred by the breath of some unknown desire. ~ Richard Le Gallienne
Catching Fire quotes by Richard Le Gallienne
it is a perfect weapon ~ Suzanne Collins
Catching Fire quotes by Suzanne Collins
Want a sugar cube? [ ... ] They're supposed to be for the horses, but who cares? They've got years to eat sugar, whereas you and I ... well, if we see something sweet we better grab it quick. [ ... ] You're absolutely terrifying me in that get-up. What happened to the pretty little-girl dresses? ~ Suzanne Collins
Catching Fire quotes by Suzanne Collins
By late afternoon I lie with my head in Peeta's lap making a crown of flowers while he fiddles with my hair claiming he is practicing knots. After awhile his hands go still.
"What?" I ask.
"I wish I could freeze this moment, right here, right now, and live in it forever," he says.
Usually this sort of comment, the kind that hints his undying love for me, makes me feel guilty and awful. But I'm so relaxed and beyond worrying about a future I'll never have, I just let the word slip out.
"Okay," I say.
I can hear the smile in his voice. "Then you'll allow it?"
"I'll allow it. ~ Suzanne Collins
Catching Fire quotes by Suzanne Collins
Peeta, how come I never know when you're having a nightmare?" I say.
"I don't know. I don't think I cry out or thrash around or anything. I just come to, paralyzed with terror," he says.
"You should wake me," I say, thinking about how I can interrupt his sleep two or three times on a bad night. About how long it can take to calm me down.
"It's not necessary. My nightmares are usually about losing you," he says. "I'm okay once I realize you're here. ~ Suzanne Collins
Catching Fire quotes by Suzanne Collins
Tick tock, this is a clock. ~ Suzanne Collins

I think Suzanne Collins has some explaining to do. ~ Caleb Eversole
Catching Fire quotes by Caleb Eversole
Ships are blowing up at sea, or catching fire, factories are blowing up. Are these accidents? Are these industrial sabotage? No one really suspected a spy network. ~ Howard Blum
Catching Fire quotes by Howard Blum
But it's not safe and I can feel him slipping away, so I just get out one more sentence. "Stay with me."
As the tendrils of sleep syrup pull me down, I hear him whisper a word back but I don't catch it. ~ Suzanne Collins
Catching Fire quotes by Suzanne Collins
He could have had his choice of any woman in the district. And he chose solitude. Not solitude – that sounds too peaceful. More like solitary confinement. ~ Suzanne Collins
Catching Fire quotes by Suzanne Collins
Winning the Games will make you famous, losing will mean death. ~ Suzanne Collins
Catching Fire quotes by Suzanne Collins
I will not die an unlived life. I will not live in fear of falling or catching fire. I choose to inhabit my days, to allow my living to open me, to make me less afraid, more accessible; to loosen my heart until it becomes a wing, a torch, a promise. I choose to risk my significance, to live so that which came to me as seed goes to the next as blossom, and that which came to me as blossom, goes on as fruit. ~ Dawna Markova
Catching Fire quotes by Dawna Markova
But I read Catching Fire. I loved disappearing into a story. ~ Jamie Oliver
Catching Fire quotes by Jamie Oliver
I thought he wanted it, anyway," I say.
"Not like this," Haymitch says. "He wanted it to be real. ~ Suzanne Collins
Catching Fire quotes by Suzanne Collins
You know, you could live a thousand lifetimes and not deserve him. ~ Suzanne Collins
Catching Fire quotes by Suzanne Collins

You're hideous, you know that, right? ~ Suzanne Collins
Catching Fire quotes by Suzanne Collins
After I read 'The Hunger Games,' I went out and got 'Catching Fire' the next day. ~ Jodelle Ferland
Catching Fire quotes by Jodelle Ferland
The sunset was that long, achingly beautiful balance of stillness in which the sun seemed to hover like a red balloon above the western horizon, the entire sky catching fire from the death of day; a sunset unique to the American Midwest and ignored by most of its inhabitants. The twilight brought the promise of coolness and the certain threat of night. ~ Dan Simmons
Catching Fire quotes by Dan Simmons
I'm stopped by the sight of Finnick kissing Peeta. ~ Suzanne Collins
Catching Fire quotes by Suzanne Collins
At some point, you have to stop running and turn around and face whoever wants you dead. The hard thing is finding the courage to do it. ~ Suzanne Collins

Catching Fire quotes by Benjamin Franklin
So it's you and a syringe against the Capitol? See, this is why no one lets you make the plans. ~ Suzanne Collins
Catching Fire quotes by Suzanne Collins
Shame isn't a strong enough word for what I feel.
"You could live a hundred lifetimes and not deserve him, you know," Haymitch says. ~ Suzanne Collins
Catching Fire quotes by Suzanne Collins
Trick, yes, trick.' The boys were catching fire with the idea. It made all the good glue go out of their joints and put a little dust of sin in their blood. They felt it stir around until it pumped on up to light their eyes and stretch their lips to show their happy-dog teeth. 'Yeah, sure ~ Ray Bradbury
Catching Fire quotes by Ray Bradbury
Let the spark in you catch fire and burn into the air, so that it may light up the sky. ~ Saim .A. Cheeda
Catching Fire quotes by Saim .A. Cheeda
Really, the combination of the scabs and the ointment looks hideous. I can't help enjoying his distress.
"Poor Finnick. Is this the first time in your life you haven't looked pretty?" I say.
"It must be. The sensation's completely new. How have you managed it all these years?" he asks.
"Just avoid mirrors. You'll forget about it," I say.
"Not if I keep looking at you," he says. ~ Suzanne Collins
Catching Fire quotes by Suzanne Collins
I'm interested in a lot. Like right now, I'm just really excited for 'Catching Fire' and 'Mockingjay' Part 1 and 2. But I love playing characters like Prim - I mean, Prim is like my dream character - but after 'The Hunger Games', it would be fun to look and see what else I could do well. But right now, Prim is like my dream role. ~ Willow Shields
Catching Fire quotes by Willow Shields
As we curve around into the loop of the City Circle, I can see that a couple of other stylists have tried to steal Cinna and Portia's idea of illuminating their tributes. The electric-light-studded outfits from District 3, where they make electronics, at least make sense. But what are the livestock keepers from Distric 10, who are dressed as cows, doing with flaming belts? Broiling themselves? Pathetic. ~ Suzanne Collins
Catching Fire quotes by Suzanne Collins
He lay across the valley like a sparkling path, the setting sun catching fire on the way. ~ Anita Diamant
Catching Fire quotes by Anita Diamant
When I make a pretty good hook ( ... ) she gives me a toothless smile and an unintelligeble comment I think might be praise. ~ Suzanne Collins
Catching Fire quotes by Suzanne Collins
Our lives are not just measured in years. They are measured in the lives we touch around us. ~ Josh Hutcherson
Catching Fire quotes by Josh Hutcherson
Look here, Mrs. Bradley," he said. "I feel a pretty frightful bounder telling you all this about the poor girl, but I think some woman ought to know about it. On Wednesday night, yes, last night, Eleanor came into my bedroom at about half-past twelve and--and wanted to stay there! I thought it was a ghost at first. I had terrible difficulty in getting rid of her. In fact, I had to get out of bed and shove her outside and lock the door. Choice, isn't it?"
...
"Of course you will lock your door tonight," she said.
"You bet I shall," Bertie said fervently, "and nothing short of the house catching fire is going to persuade me to open it. ~ Gladys Mitchell
Catching Fire quotes by Gladys Mitchell
If you're being chased by a police dog, try not to go through a tunnel, then on to a little seesaw, then jump through a hoop of fire. They're trained for that! ~ Milton Jones
Catching Fire quotes by Milton Jones
If there are difficulties on your way, be thankful for them because they will test and refine you as fire does to gold and if you will overcome, you will come out a winner, wizard and overcomer. ~ Ifeanyi Enoch Onuoha
Catching Fire quotes by Ifeanyi Enoch Onuoha
This is Now. Now is,
all there is. Don't wait for Then;
strike the spark, light the fire. ~ Rumi
Catching Fire quotes by Rumi
When teaching, light a fire, don't fill a bucket. ~ Dan Snow
Catching Fire quotes by Dan Snow
It is among the commonplaces of education that we often first cut off the living root and then try to replace its natural functions by artificial means. Thus we suppress the child's curiosity and then when he lacks a natural interest in learning he is offered special coaching for his scholastic coaching for his scholastic difficulties. ~ Alice Duer Miller
Catching Fire quotes by Alice Duer Miller
Am I crying?
Elizabeth is dead, because of me, because of my monstrous selfishness.
Tamara might not choose me. If I keep my word to her and let her go, she might leave. After everything I did to her, she'd be insane to stay with me, and my beautiful girl is many things, but she is not insane.
Yes. I am crying. I am a man who is capable of sorrow, who is able to shed tears. There is something astonishingly freeing in this. I wish I could have cried for my brothers. For my mother. They deserved my tears. This feeling is like a scouring fire, cleansing and painful at the same time.
"Thank you, Tamara," I whisper, and I turn the key ~ Ginger Talbot
Catching Fire quotes by Ginger Talbot
Life is not about warming yourself by the fire, life is about building the fire. And generosity is the match ... If you want happiness for an hour, take a nap, but if you want happiness for a lifetime, help somebody. ~ Larry Lucchino
Catching Fire quotes by Larry Lucchino
Dopey, in out of his depth, began to look desperate.
"Debbie Mancuso," he yelled, "and I are not having sex!"
I saw my mom and Andy exchange a quick, bewildered glance.
"I should certainly hope not," Doc, Dopey's little brother, said as he breezed past us. "But if you are, Brad, I hope you're using condoms. While a good-quality latex condom has a failure rate of about two percent when used as directed, typically the failure rate averages closer to twelve percent. That makes them only about eighty-five percent effective against preventing pregnancy. If used with a spermicide, the effectiveness improves dramatically. And condoms are our best defense - though not as good, of course, as abstention - against some STDs, including HIV."
Everyone in the kitchen - my mother, Andy, Dopey, Sleepy, and I - stared at Doc, who is, as I think I mentioned before, twelve.
"You," I finally said, "have way too much time on your hands."
Doc shrugged. "It helps to be informed. While I myself am not sexually active at the current time, I hope to become so in the near future." He nodded toward the stove. "Dad, your chimichangas, or whatever they are, are on fire."
While Andy jumped to put out his cheese fire, my mother stood there, apparently, for once in her life, at a loss for words. ~ Meg Cabot
Catching Fire quotes by Meg Cabot
His kiss ignited a bone-melting fire that spread through her blood. He gradually edged her toward his chamber door.
Margaret paused and drew a ragged breath. "I do believe we should eat first, m'lord. I need my strength before we do that again."
Colin threw his head back with a rolling laugh. "You do have a way with words, wife. Come sup then, before I change my mind. ~ Amy Jarecki
Catching Fire quotes by Amy Jarecki
Middle age is the awkward period when Father Time starts catching up with Mother Nature. ~ Harold Coffin
Catching Fire quotes by Harold Coffin
Perhaps his might be one of the natures where a wise estimate of consequences is fused in the fires of that passionate belief which determines the consequences it believes in. ~ George Eliot
Catching Fire quotes by George Eliot
Remember, you are not your negative thoughts. You are not
your painful imaginations. See yourself as separate from your
thoughts. This will aid you in dismissing the horror films. Just as
fire fades when not fed additional fuel, so do emotional fires fade
away when we cease to fuel them with negative imagination. ~ Vernon Howard
Catching Fire quotes by Vernon Howard
Your job is not to be a fire killer. Your job is to prevent fires. ~ Sam Carpenter
Catching Fire quotes by Sam Carpenter
If someone loves you and they leave and don't come back, it was never meant to be. If someone loves you and they leave and come back, set them on fire. ~ George Carlin
Catching Fire quotes by George Carlin
Come, God
Bromius, Bacchus, Dionysus
burst into life, burst
into being, be a mighty bull,
a hundred-headed snake,
a fire-breathing lion.
Burst into smiling life, oh Bacchus! ~ Euripides
Catching Fire quotes by Euripides
Anyway, those things would not have lasted long.
The experience of the years shows it to me.
But Destiny arrived in some haste and stopped them.
The beautiful life was brief.
But how potent were the perfumes,
On how splendid a bed we lay,
To what sensual delight we gave our bodies.
An echo of the days of pleasure,
An echo of the days drew near me,
A little of the fire of the youth of both of us,
Again I took in my hands a letter,
And I read and reread till the light was gone.
And melancholy, I came out on the balcony
Came out to change my thoughts at least by looking at
A little of the city that I loved,
A little movement on the street and in the shops.
Translated by Rae Dalven ~ Constantine P. Cavafy
Catching Fire quotes by Constantine P. Cavafy
He himself was a beautiful weapon, forged by centuries of ruthless training and warring. ~ Sarah J. Maas
Catching Fire quotes by Sarah J. Maas
Lorcan nodded, "It'ss a beautiful night," he said. "The stars have all come out for you, Darcy." He turned to go, then had a fresh thought. "Oh and Tempest, a word to the wise ... "
Grace was busily gathering up the edges of Darcy's train. "Yes?" she said, glancing up at Lorcan. "What is it Furey?"
Lorcan grinned."Just so you know, I've put down good money on you catching the wedding bouquet. I trust you wouldn't let me down!"
as he winked at her, Grace thought his eyes never looked so blue. They were eyes you could never tire from looking at- as deep and constant and infinite as the ocean itself. ~ Justin Somper
Catching Fire quotes by Justin Somper
Have you no - " He brushed his lips against mine and I forgot about my worries, just as he'd intended. The kiss started off tentative and sweet, a distraction and promise itself, but soon turned deeper and more urgent. I wound my arms around his neck, bringing him closer, getting lost in the rhythm of both the sea and our kiss. Even on the coldest night, he could ignite a fire within me. I worried that one day the blaze might consume me entirely.
Much too soon, he broke away. In times like this I thought he was right - we ought to announce our intentions and marry immediately. Then I might kiss him whenever I pleased. ~ Kerri Maniscalco
Catching Fire quotes by Kerri Maniscalco
Passion will warm you for days, infatuation will warm you for months, but love will set you on fire for a lifetime. ~ Matshona Dhliwayo
Catching Fire quotes by Matshona Dhliwayo
In our Mechanics' Fair, there must be not only bridges, ploughs, carpenter's planes, and baking troughs, but also some few finer instruments,
rain-gauges, thermometers, and telescopes; and in society, besides farmers, sailors, and weavers, there must be a few persons of purer fire kept specially as gauges and meters of character; persons of a fine, detecting instinct, who note the smallest accumulations of wit and feeling in the bystander. ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson
Catching Fire quotes by Ralph Waldo Emerson
You were the fire bound to burn me, the needle destined to prick me, and the beauty destined to break me. ~ Ezra Kwame
Catching Fire quotes by Ezra Kwame
I am a plant, she said, I need fire, earth, water. Otherwise I will be stunted. And: Is marriage not such a stunting? The fire goes out. The wind grows weak. The earth dries out. The water dwindles. I would die. You too. She tossed her hair over her shoulders. Purple lavender. And what if it wasn't like that, I argued. What if the daily routine, our daily routine, is my promise to you? Your toothbrush next to mine. You get annoyed because I've forgotten to turn the light off in the bathroom. We choose wallpaper we think is horrible a year later. You tell me I'm getting a belly. Your forgetfulness. You've left your umbrella somewhere again. I snore, you can't sleep. In my dream I whisper your name...You tie my tie. Wave goodbye to me as I go to work. I think: you are like a fluttering flag. I think it with a stabbing pain in my heart. For Heaven's sake, is that not enough? Is that not enough to be happy? She turned away: Give me time. I'll think about it. ~ Milena Michiko Flasar
Catching Fire quotes by Milena Michiko Flasar
Whenever Percy stopped by to see [Annabeth], she was so lost in thought that the conversation went something like this:
Percy: 'Hey, how's it going?'
Annabeth: 'Uh, no thanks.'
Percy: 'Okay ... have you eaten anything today?'
Annabeth: 'I think Leo is on duty. Ask him.'
Percy: 'So, my hair is on fire.'
Annabeth: 'Okay, in a while. ~ Rick Riordan
Catching Fire quotes by Rick Riordan
I have a dream," he said slowly. "I persist in dreaming it, although it has often seemed to me that it could never come true. I dream of a home with a hearth-fire in it, a cat and dog, the footsteps of friends
and you! ~ L.M. Montgomery
Catching Fire quotes by L.M. Montgomery
The wolf was not far away. After only a short time, he crested a nearby hill. His eyes blazing yellow fire. Fierce. For his mistress called. There she knelt. Queenly and yet so wild. Arrow set to bow - spilling out a bloody light.
At the sight of her, passion filled him. It rose in his gut, swelled his chest, then burst out of his throat. It overwhelmed the air and beat against the starry roof. The howl filled the mounds, rang out through the Vale and then rolled into Minonowe.
She had called him and here was his answer.
The spiders were out there. Running. With Luthiel, he would hunt them. ~ Robert Fanney
Catching Fire quotes by Robert Fanney
He considered shooting a column of fire at the nearest tour bus and blowing up the gas tank, but he decided that might be a tad dramatic. ~ Rick Riordan
Catching Fire quotes by Rick Riordan
President Obama, by the way, is, I think, making his first presidential European trip. And while he's there in Europe, he plans to fire the CEO's of BMW and Volkswagen. ~ David Letterman
Catching Fire quotes by David Letterman
It seems like songwriting for most songwriters is only one season in their life, a five or ten year period. For me, I don't worry about it, but I know there might come a day when I can't write anymore, or don't have good song ideas or the fire to do it anymore. ~ Rodney Clawson
Catching Fire quotes by Rodney Clawson
Song

This is the love I bring,
Absolute and nothing:
A tree but with no roots,
A cloud heavy with fruit,
A wide stone stair
That leads nowhere
But to empty sky,
Ambiguous majesty.

This is the love I bear:
It is light as air,
Yet weighs like an earth;
It is water flowing,
Yet adamant as fire.
It is coming from going.
It is dying and growing.

A love so rare and hard
It cuts a diamond word
Upon the windowpane,
"Never, never again,
Never upon my breast,"
Having no time to bring,
Having no place to rest,
Absolute and nothing. ~ May Sarton
Catching Fire quotes by May Sarton
And what good is a dream finally? It breaks your heart
and you stand in the lush dark of the moment after twilight
ends and begin to sing and nothing makes sense to you
and you sing louder for a while, then awkwardly sit down

where you are. And the stars overhead shine a little - no more
or less than usual - and whether it is daylight and they are invisible
or whether it is night and they are the embers of a blacksmith's
fire, they shine and you are grateful. That love is like a hammer. ~ Steve Scafidi
Catching Fire quotes by Steve Scafidi
The best training is to play by ear: trial by fire. ~ John Legend
Catching Fire quotes by John Legend
As he analyzed the areas that fire in chronic pain, he observed that many of those areas also process thoughts, sensations, images, memories, movements, emotions, and beliefs - when they are not processing pain. That observation explained why, when we are in pain, we can't concentrate or think well; why we have sensory problems and often can't tolerate certain sounds or light; why we can't move more gracefully; and why we can't control our emotions very well and become irritable and have emotional outbursts. The areas that regulate these activities have been hijacked to process the pain signal. ~ Norman Doidge
Catching Fire quotes by Norman Doidge
You named your sword Fire? Fire? What kind of a boring name is that? You might as well name your sword 'Blazing Blade' and be done with it. Fire indeed. Humph. Wouldn't you rather have a sword called Sheepbiter or Chrysanthemum Cleaver or something else with imagination? ~ Christopher Paolini
Catching Fire quotes by Christopher Paolini
Do not analyze things to death. Sometimes the best strategy is, "Ready, fire, aim." Do it first , then make adjustments. The answer lies in action-not in words. ~ Philip Toshio Sudo
Catching Fire quotes by Philip Toshio Sudo
In 'Colonization in Reverse'41 (a famous poem much anthologized) the speaker is presented as a more or less reliable commentator who implies that Jamaicans who come to 'settle in de motherlan' are like English people who settled in the colonies. West Indian entrepreneurs, shipping off their countrymen 'like fire', turn history upside down. Fire can destroy, but may also be a source of warmth to be welcomed in temperate England. Those people who 'immigrate an populate' the seat of the Empire seem, like many a colonizer, ready to displace previous inhabitants. 'Jamaica live fi box bread/Out a English people mout' plays on a fear that newcomers might exploit the natives; and some of the immigrants are - like some of the colonizers from 'the motherland' - lazy and inclined to put on airs. Can England, who faced war and braved the worst, cope with people from the colonies turning history upside down? Can she cope with 'Colonizin in reverse'? ~ Mervyn Morris
Catching Fire quotes by Mervyn Morris
Afghan Girl

Ice blue eyes that look to the morning sky as I knit the pieces and remnants of my life. I have No books, no paper, no pencils, and no black boards. I look at the holes in my life as I see the hills of the Appalachians that echo. I think to myself, who will I marry? Is my life-like Pari?

These strings please come together.

Snowflakes give me hope, and my dreams dance all around me. I'll put another log on the fire. I watch the brown paper bag over the broken glass pane letting the cold wind in; I'll take some of these remnants and stuff it.

These strings are come together.

Mama told me that life would be hard. I bartered for flour the other day, and the chickens ain't laying no eggs. I struggle with life and these strings. My hands are worn and tired. Now, I have granny square hands.
I am unclean, unblemished, and finished,

Afghan girl. ~ Edna Stewart
Catching Fire quotes by Edna Stewart
Fire and fear, good servants, bad lords. ~ Ursula K. Le Guin
Catching Fire quotes by Ursula K. Le Guin
Prayer and Theology are inseparable. True Theology is the adoration offered by the intellect. The intellect clarifies the moment of prayer, but only prayer can give it the fervor of the Spirit. Theology is light, prayer is fire. ~ Olivier Clement
Catching Fire quotes by Olivier Clement
I could not help reflecting that the bullet which had struck the chestnut [horse] had certainly passed within a foot of my head. So at any rate I had been 'under fire.' That was something. ~ Winston Churchill
Catching Fire quotes by Winston Churchill
Science is a powerful tool, but like any tool, it doesn't care whether it hurts you. Fire warms us, cooks our food, protects us from predators, but it will burn us if we let it. Fire is more than happy to eat us all alive. Science is fire writ large. ~ Mira Grant
Catching Fire quotes by Mira Grant
The Lord's holy fire lit my path. ~ Lailah Gifty Akita
Catching Fire quotes by Lailah Gifty Akita
It was civilization itself which inflicted this wound upon modern man. Once the increase of empirical knowledge, and more exact modes of thought, made sharper divisions between the sciences inevitable, and once the increasingly complex machinery of State necessitated a more rigorous separation of ranks and occupations, then the inner unity of human nature was severed too, and a disastrous conflict set its harmonious powers at variance. The intuitive and the speculative understanding now withdrew in hostility to take up positions in their respective fields, whose frontiers they now began to guard with jealous mistrust; and with this confining of our activity to a particular sphere we have given ourselves a master within, who not infrequently ends by suppressing the rest of our potentialities. While in one a riotous imagination ravages the hard-won fruits of the intellect, in another the spirit of abstraction stifles the fire at which the heart should have warmed itself and the imagination been kindled. ~ Friedrich Schiller
Catching Fire quotes by Friedrich Schiller
Philosophy is no longer the pillar of fire going before a few intrepid seekers after truth: it is rather an ambulance following in the wake of the struggle for existence and picking up the weak and wounded. ~ Bertrand Russell
Catching Fire quotes by Bertrand Russell
Perhaps that had been one of the ineradicable faults of mankind - for even a convinced atheist had to admit there were faults - that it was never content with a thing as a thing; it had to turn things into symbols of other things. A rainbow was never only a rainbow; a storm was a sign of celestial anger; and even from the puddingy earth came forth dark chthonian gods. What did it all mean? What an agnostic believed and what the willowy parson believed were not only irreconcilable systems of thought: they were equally valid systems of thought because, somewhere along the evolutionary line, man, developing this habit of thinking of symbols, had provided himself with more alternatives than he could manage. Animals moved in no such channel of imagination - they copulated and they ate; but the the saint, bread was a symbol of life, as the phallus was to the pagan. The animals themselves were pressed into symbolic service - and not only in the medieval bestiaries, by any means.

Such a usage was a distortion, although man seemed unable to ratiocinate without it. That had been the trouble right from the beginning. Perhaps it had even been the beginning, back among the first men that man could never get clearly defined (for the early men, being also symbols, had to be either lumbering brutes, or timid noble savages, or to undergo some other interpretation). Perhaps the first fire, the first tool, the first wheel, the first carving in a limestone cave, had each possessed a ~ Brian W. Aldiss
Catching Fire quotes by Brian W. Aldiss
So nice to be stuck up here again, wouldn't you agree Agres."
"Not really no." Agres replied "Day three is it" Agres nodded they where huddled up behind a rock as the cold wind blew around their small fire "I didn't really miss being stuck up here did you?"
"I bet Tria, you'd rather be stuck in a swamp again wouldn't you?"
"Actually I'd gladly take being stuck in a swamp over being stranded on a cold mountain any day. You hear that Dilmore! ~ Charon Lloyd-Roberts
