In his library he had been always sure of leisure and tranquility; and though prepared, as he told Elizabeth, to meet with folly and conceit in every other room in the house, he was used to be free from them there ~ Jane Austen
Tranquility quotes by Jane Austen
We prefer self-government with danger to servitude in tranquility. ~ Kwame Nkrumah
Tranquility quotes by Kwame Nkrumah
Taxes are what we pay for civilized society, for modernity, and for prosperity. The wealthy pay more because they have benefitted more. Taxes, well laid and well spent, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, and promote the general welfare. Taxes protect property and the environment; taxes make business possible. Taxes pay for roads and schools and bridges and police and teachers. Taxes pay for doctors and nursing homes and medicine. During an emergency, like an earthquake or a hurricane, taxes pay for rescue workers, shelters, and services. For people whose lives are devastated by other kinds of disaster, like the disaster of poverty, taxes pay, even, for food. ~ Jill Lepore
Tranquility quotes by Jill Lepore
Outer peace is the reflection of inner beauty, harmony, love, and tranquility. ~ Debasish Mridha
Tranquility quotes by Debasish Mridha
Tranquility, compassion, and wisdom are the components of fearlessness, not power, control, and remaining unaffected. ~ Susan Piver
Tranquility quotes by Susan Piver
It is you and clean, flowing water. It is you, inquisitive, in a wild world that is older than man, seeking greater understanding and finding not only an endless interest but a tranquility that comes, most of the time, to all nature?s wild creatures ... ~ Lee Wulff
Tranquility quotes by Lee Wulff
If between a sea of gold and tranquility of the heart, I would choose the tranquility heart, because the tranquility of the heart worth all. ~ Kamaran Ihsan Salih
Tranquility quotes by Kamaran Ihsan Salih
Our lives are a journey. As we move forward, we will not only figuratively experience the geography of life: the exhilaration of high mountains, the tranquility of calm meadows, the isolation of treacherous canyons, but we will also experience the seasons of life: the hope of spring, the abundance of summer, the harvest of autumn, and yes, the darkness and depression of winter. ~ Seth Adam Smith
Tranquility quotes by Seth Adam Smith
Peace doesn't mean that you will not have problems. Peace means that your problems will not have you. ~ Tony Evans
Tranquility quotes by Tony Evans
When Communism fell in 1989, the temptation for Western commentators to gloat triumphantly proved irresistible. This, it was declared, marked the end of History. Henceforth, the world belonged to liberal capitalism – there was no alternative – and we would all march forward in unison towards a future shaped by peace, democracy and free markets. Twenty years on this assertion looks threadbare.

There can be no question that the fall of the Berlin Wall and the domino-like collapse of Communism states from the suburbs of Vienna to the shores of the Pacific marked a very significant transition: one in which millions of men and women were liberated from a dismal and defunct ideology and its authoritarian institutions. But no one could credibly assert that what replaced Communism was an era of idyllic tranquility. There was no peace in post-Communist Yugoslavia, and precious little democracy in any of the successor states of the Soviet Union.

As for free markets, they surely flourished, but it is not clear for whom. The West – Europe and the United States above all – missed a once-in-a-century opportunity to re-shape the world around agreed and improved international institutions and practices. Instead, we sat back and congratulated ourselves upon having won the Cold War: a sure way to lose the peace. The years from 1989 to 2009 were consumed by locusts. ~ Tony Judt
Tranquility quotes by Tony Judt
Personal tranquility consists in the orderly structuring of the mind, which occurs whenever a person engages in the exquisite practice of contemplating personal experiences, harmonizing time spent with other people, reading great books, and working on self-improvement. ~ Kilroy J. Oldster
Tranquility quotes by Kilroy J. Oldster
Elron: These were happy woods. The entire place was happy from the house to the gardens to the woods. But this one little garden had something extra. It was excited. Something odd for plants and trees. They were prone to joy, happiness, sorrow and tranquility but not something as active as excitement. Someone had spent a lot of time here and a bit of their personality had seeped into the place. That someone was excited about life and probably young. Strange. Few youth of any race knew enough to transmit their feelings. The trees whispered about a person, moving and bending with change. The plants gossiped about tenderness shown them but the air breathed words of rage and despair in my ear. The plants didn't know gender but I got the impression of a woman, a young woman. The altar indicated she was a witch. A good witch. ~ N.E. Conneely
Tranquility quotes by N.E. Conneely
Given enough time, you could convince yourself that loneliness was something better, that it was solitude, the ideal condition for reflection, even a kind of freedom.
Once you were thus convinced, you were foolish to open the door and let anyone in, not all the way in. You risked the hard-won equilibrium, that tranquility that you called peace ~ Dean Koontz
Tranquility quotes by Dean Koontz
I'm 86 and my doctor used to tell me to slow down - at least he did until he dropped dead. ~ Cesar Romero
Tranquility quotes by Cesar Romero
It's important for you to know that good feelings, good times, and tranquility await you. ~ Lance J. Lorusso
Tranquility quotes by Lance J. Lorusso
Of all the things that are beyond my power, I value nothing more highly than to be allowed the honor of entering into bonds of friendship with people who sincerely love truth. For, of things beyond our power, I believe there is nothing in the world which we can love with tranquility except such men. ~ Baruch Spinoza
Tranquility quotes by Baruch Spinoza
All of this seemed equally trifling to him now. And when he thought again about the world of free people, the difference between it and the miseries and joys of this place seemed minimal. If three tiny fragments of tea leaf chanced to fall into a prisoner's battered cup, he relished them. In Leningrad during the interval at the opera a woman sipped champagne with the same pleasure. Their sufferings were also comparable. Both the prisoner and the woman had painful shoes. Hers were narrow evening shoes which she took off during the performance. The prisoner suffered from what they wore in the camp, section of tyres into which you thrust your foot wrapped in rags and fastened with string. The woman at the opera knew that somewhere in the world there were millions of beings transformed into gaunt animals, their faces blackened by the polar winds. But this did not stop her drinking her glass of wine amid the glittering of the great mirrors. The prisoner knew that a warm and brilliant life was lived elsewhere in tranquility but this did not spoil his pleasure as he chewed those fragments of tea leaf.... ~ Andrei Makine
Tranquility quotes by Andrei Makine
Once a man's will is set, he need no longer rely on others or expect anything from the world. His vision encompasses Heaven and earth, past and present, and the tranquility of his heart is undisturbed. ~ Yoshida Shoin
Tranquility quotes by Yoshida Shoin
Great tranquility of heart is his who cares for neither praise nor blame. ~ Thomas A Kempis
Tranquility quotes by Thomas A Kempis
The city (regardless which one it is) does provide a certain degree of sophistication and intellectualism. It offers the challenge of professional matters. It throws new and interesting people in one's path. There is a dynamic and an energy in cities which is diametric to the life-forces of the forest.
Still the cabin is the wellspring, the source, the hub of my existence. It gives me tranquility, a closeness of nature and wildlife, good health and fitness, a sense of security, the opportunity for resourcefulness, reflection and creative thinking ... ~ Anne LaBastille
Tranquility quotes by Anne LaBastille
Let a man set his heart only on doing the will of God and he is instantly free. If we understand our first and sole duty to consist of loving God supremely and loving everyone, even our enemies, for God's dear sake, then we can enjoy spiritual tranquility under every circumstance. ~ Aiden Wilson Tozer
Tranquility quotes by Aiden Wilson Tozer
And if my Sea od Tranquility were real, it would be this place, here, with him.
I don't say anything right away, because I just want one minute to look at him before I give him my last secret.
And then I tell him.
Your garage. ~ Katja Millay
Tranquility quotes by Katja Millay
Why do this to yourself? How does it make anything better?"
"It does not make anything worse."
"It makes you worse. Why can't you just ... do good things with it?"
Winter laughed against the strain of the delusion. "They all believe they are doing good." Her head fell to the side and she watched Scarlet with her bleary eyes. "My stepmother is not only powerful because the people fear her, she is powerful because she can make them love her when she needs them to. We think that if we choose to do only good, then we are only good. We can make people happy. We can offer tranquility or contentment or love, and that must be good. We do not see the falsehood becoming its own brand of cruelty ... who am I to presume what is good for others? ~ Marissa Meyer
Tranquility quotes by Marissa Meyer
When you love, you change the world.
You bring tranquility, harmony, and joy.
You attract beauty of angel inside you.
Your heart sings the song of love. ~ Debasish Mridha
Tranquility quotes by Debasish Mridha
Get lost in the beauty and tranquility of nature to find your true self again and again. ~ Debasish Mridha
Tranquility quotes by Debasish Mridha
If I die very young, hear this:
I was never anything but a kid playing.
I was a heathen like the sun and the water,
I had the universal religion only people don't have.
I was happy because I didn't ask for anything at all,
Or tried to find anything,
And I didn't find any more explanation
Than the word explanation having no meaning at all. ~ Alberto Caeiro
Tranquility quotes by Alberto Caeiro
wanted to shout and lecture them, but she knew they would react poorly to such a chastisement, so instead she gave them her best verbal punch. "No." She smiled with all the tranquility she could muster. "I am filled with grave disappointment over your conduct, but I trust you - as I always have. I do hope you will act with greater wisdom next time, wisdom I know you possess. ~ K.M. Shea
Tranquility quotes by K.M. Shea
Peace is the only battle worth waging. ~ Albert Camus
Tranquility quotes by Albert Camus
Tranquility is the old man's milk. ~ Thomas Jefferson
Tranquility quotes by Thomas Jefferson
My doctor gave me six months to live, but when I couldn't pay the bill he gave me six months more. ~ Walter Matthau
Tranquility quotes by Walter Matthau
Only your surface is disturbed; in your deepness there is stillness and total tranquility. ~ Bryant McGill
Tranquility quotes by Bryant McGill
I have often plotted my great escape to the beach. To live seaside and to be able to stare possibility and tranquility in the face every day ... I wanted it bad enough to taste. All the while forgetting, I can lap underneath an open sky at any moment and feel awe rush over me. I can bring it close to me like a blanket - if I only remember He is my rest and refuge. ~ Erica Goros
Tranquility quotes by Erica Goros
Because we want to be inwardly secure, we are constantly seeking methods and means for this security, and thereby we create authority, the worship of another, which destroys comprehension, that spontaneous tranquility of mind in which alone there can be a state of creativeness. ~ Jiddu Krishnamurti
Tranquility quotes by Jiddu Krishnamurti
An adventure is never an adventure when it happens. An adventure is simply physical and emotional discomfort recollected in tranquility. ~ Tim Cahill
Tranquility quotes by Tim Cahill
Happiness is the inner perception of calmness, tranquility and joy. ~ Debasish Mridha
Tranquility quotes by Debasish Mridha
One ought to avoid all unnecessary worry and exciting thoughts, and to cultivate a firm tranquility of mind. Melancholy reflections will in no way influence fate, whereas one may weaken the constitution by the waste of energy while indulging in them. ~ George Hackenschmidt
Tranquility quotes by George Hackenschmidt
When we renounce our dreams, we find peace and enjoy a brief period of tranquility, but the dead dreams begin to rot inside us and to infect the whole atmosphere in which we live. What we hoped to avoid in the Fight - disappointment and defeat - become the sole legacy of our cowardice. ~ Paulo Coelho
Tranquility quotes by Paulo Coelho
Sometimes in the evening on Summer days,
Even when there's not a breeze at all, it seems
Like there's a light breeze blowing for a minute
But the trees are unmoving
In every leaf of their leaves
And our feelings have had an illusion,
An illusion of what would please them... ~ Alberto Caeiro
Tranquility quotes by Alberto Caeiro
The believer caught between the flesh and Spirit is also caught between death and life. That is what happens when God intervenes in a human life. That intervention does not necessarily bring tranquility. In fact, it is more likely to bring tension and conflict. It is the life surrendered to the flesh which lacks inner conflict, for the decline through sin to death can be so easy. It is when the Spirit enters a life to contest the sway of sin and counter the weakness of the flesh that conflict ensues. The presence of moral conflict is a sign of the Spirit presence, not the Spirit's absence. ~ James D.G. Dunn
Tranquility quotes by James D.G. Dunn
Here the people seem to possess the secret of tranquility and to live lives of more than surface contentment. ~ Louise Dickinson Rich
Tranquility quotes by Louise Dickinson Rich
There will be calmness, tranquility, when one is free from external objects and is not perturbed. ~ Bruce Lee
Tranquility quotes by Bruce Lee
Today's world is traveling in some strange direction. You see that the world is going toward destruction and violence. And the specialty of violence is to create hatred among people and to create fear. I am a believer in nonviolence and I say that no peace or tranquility will descend upon the people of the world until nonviolence is practiced, because nonviolence is love and it stirs courage in people. ~ Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan
Tranquility quotes by Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan
Real love brings about calm - not inner torment. True love allows you to be at peace with yourself and with God. That is why Allah says: "that you may dwell in tranquility." Hawa is the opposite. Hawa will make you miserable. And just like a drug, you will crave it always, but never be satisfied. You will chase it to your own detriment, but never reach it. ~ Yasmin Mogahed
Tranquility quotes by Yasmin Mogahed
Fishing books , lit by emotion recollected in tranquility, are like poetry.. We do not think of them as books but as men. They are our companions and not only riverside. Summer and winter they are with us and what a pleasant company they are. ~ Arthur Ransome
Tranquility quotes by Arthur Ransome
Without inner tranquility and wisdom, we are devoured wherever we go. Beauty is everywhere, speaking to you and trying to remind you who you really are. ~ Bryant McGill
Tranquility quotes by Bryant McGill
Embrace the magical gift of serenity in your daily life. Nothing beats patience, humility, honesty and tranquility. ~ Angelica Hopes
Tranquility quotes by Angelica Hopes
Let the water flow beneath the bridge; let men be men, that is to say, weak, vain, inconstant, unjust, false, and presumptuous; let the world be the world still; you cannot prevent it. Let every one follow his own inclination and habits; you cannot recast them, and the best course is, to let them be as they are and bear with them. Do not think it strange when you witness unreasonableness and injustice; rest in peace in the bosom of God; He sees it all more clearly than you do, and yet permits it. Be content to do quietly and gently what it becomes you to do, and let everything else be to you as though it were not. ~ Francois Fenelon
Tranquility quotes by Francois Fenelon
What will I do when you're gone?" said Alasdair, with a faltering voice.
Bryeison placed a hand on his shoulder and said, with raging tranquility, "Do what is good and what is right. ~ Michelle Franklin
Tranquility quotes by Michelle Franklin
Colleges and classrooms should be havens of tranquility, places where thoughtful discussions occur, where students work together with their teachers to acquire knowledge of the arts and sciences. ~ Jay Parini
Tranquility quotes by Jay Parini
You cannot live with inner tranquility and peace when you hate others. ~ Debasish Mridha
Tranquility quotes by Debasish Mridha
It is in seeing ourselves whole that we can begin to see ways of working out our differences, of understanding our similarities and of finally forming the cohesive nation that can one day experience the 'domestic tranquility' so hoped for by the framers of the Constitution. ~ Robert C. Maynard
Tranquility quotes by Robert C. Maynard
Once we learn to stably regulate our attention, we can be fully present in our joy, compassion, and love; in turn, we can deny oxygen to our anger, anxiety, and self-cherishing. This is the first step towards lasting inner tranquility. ~ Kyle Parton
Tranquility quotes by Kyle Parton
Each day had a tranquility a timelessness about it so that you wished it would never end. But then the dark skin of the night would peel off and there would be a fresh day waiting for us glossy and colorful as a child's transfer and with the same tinge of unreality. ~ Gerald Durrell
Tranquility quotes by Gerald Durrell
Tennis just a game, family is forever. ~ Serena Williams
Tranquility quotes by Serena Williams
Kansas afternoons in late summer are peculiar and wondrous things. Often they are pregnant, if not over-ripe, with a pensive and latent energy that is utterly incapable of ever finding an adequate release for itself. This results in a palpable, almost frenetic tension that hangs in the air just below the clouds. By dusk, spread thin across the quilt-work farmlands by disparate prairie winds, this formless energy creates an abscess in the fabric of space and time that most individuals rarely take notice of. But in the soulish chambers of particularly sensitive observers, it elicits a familiar recognition - a vague remembrance - of something both dark and beautiful. Some understand it simply as an undefined tranquility tinged with despair over the loss of something now forgotten. For others, it signifies something far more sinister, and is therefore something to be feared. ~ P.S. Baber
Tranquility quotes by P.S. Baber
If you care anything about your personal security, you should first of all pray for order and tranquility throughout the four quarters of the land ... ~ Nichiren
Tranquility quotes by Nichiren
There is nothing magnanimous in bearing misfortunes with fortitude, when the whole world is looking on ... He who, without friends to encourage or even without hope to alleviate his misfortunes, can behave with tranquility and indifference, is truly great. ~ Oliver Goldsmith
Tranquility quotes by Oliver Goldsmith
In the chamber of death ... I see a repose that neither earth nor hell can break, and I feel an assurance of the endless and shadowless hereafter-the Eternity they have entered-where life is boundless in its duration, and love in its sympathy, and joy in its fullness ... One might doubt in seasons of cold reflection; but not then in the presence of her corpse. It asserted its own tranquility, which seemed a pledge of equal quiet to its former inhabitant. ~ Emily Bronte
Tranquility quotes by Emily Bronte
A late summer garden has a tranquility found no other time of the year. ~ William F. Longgood
Tranquility quotes by William F. Longgood
Maybe tranquility is the dirt under my nails. I know it's there but I never feel like digging it out. ~ Casey Renee Kiser
Tranquility quotes by Casey Renee Kiser
History is indeed little more than the register of the crimes, follies, and misfortunes of mankind. ~ Edward Gibbon
Tranquility quotes by Edward Gibbon
Taxes, well laid and well spent, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, and promote the general welfare. Taxes protect property and the environment; taxes make business possible. Taxes pay for roads and schools and bridges and police and teachers. Taxes pay for doctors and nursing homes and medicine. ~ Jill Lepore
Tranquility quotes by Jill Lepore
Whenever I see the alcove of a tastefully built Japanese room, I marvel at our comprehension of the secrets of shadows, our sensitive use of shadow and light. For the beauty of the alcove is not the work of some clever device. An empty space is marked off with plain wood and plain walls, so that the light drawn into its forms dim shadows within emptiness. There is nothing more. And yet, when we gaze into the darkness that gathers behind the crossbeam, around the flower vase, beneath the shelves, though we know perfectly well it is mere shadow, we are overcome with the feeling that in this small corner of the atmosphere there reigns complete and utter silence; that here in the darkness immutable tranquility holds sway. ~ Junichiro Tanizaki
Tranquility quotes by Junichiro Tanizaki
We are all familiar with the dove carrying an olive branch as a peace offering. The jewelry I've created pays tribute both to the messenger's noble mission and gardens as a refuge of peace and tranquility. ~ Paloma Picasso
Tranquility quotes by Paloma Picasso
The typical worker who through the whole of his life ... pursues the idea of a certain artificial and elegant repose which he may never arrive at, for which he sacrifices a real tranquility ... It is this deception which rouses and keeps in continual motion the industry of mankind. ~ Adam Smith
Tranquility quotes by Adam Smith
Acquire knowledge, and learn tranquility and dignity. ~ Umar Ibn Al-Khattab
Tranquility quotes by Umar Ibn Al-Khattab
Take a break to listen to the song of the wind, talk to the whispering trees, feel the love of flowers, dance with the dancing leaves, and enjoy the tranquility and serenity of nature. ~ Debasish Mridha
Tranquility quotes by Debasish Mridha
I have recently been able to see the new world - the quiet, the tranquility and the freedom it will bring with it. This is very comforting knowledge for me because I already know that what I envision eventually becomes a reality. ~ Shari Arison
Tranquility quotes by Shari Arison
Tranquility is a Choice. So is Anxiety. The entire world around us may be in Turmoil. But if we want to be Peaceful within, WE CAN.-RVM ~ R.v.m.
Tranquility quotes by R.v.m.
Beauty is like piety
you cannot run and read it; tranquility and constancy, with, now-a-days, an easy chair, are needed. ~ Herman Melville
Tranquility quotes by Herman Melville
I don't believe you have to get a peaceful heart, I think there is a native tranquility within each of us that's already there. And through quieting your mind and your heart, you can slip right down into it. ~ John O'Donohue
Tranquility quotes by John O'Donohue
Wisdom is the only thing which can relieve us from the sway of the passions and the fear of danger, and which can teach us to bear the injuries of fortune itself with moderation, and which shows us all the ways which lead to tranquility and peace. ~ Marcus Tullius Cicero
Tranquility quotes by Marcus Tullius Cicero
Silence is the element in which great things fashion themselves together ... Speech is too often ... the act of quite stifling and suspending thought, so that there is none to conceal ... Speech is of Time, silence is of Eternity ... It is idle to think that, by means of words, any real communication can ever pass from one man to another ... ~ Maurice Maeterlinck
Tranquility quotes by Maurice Maeterlinck
I quite like to sing, actually - just belting out numbers with my guitar. I find that it's a form of tranquility. ~ Jack O'Connell
Tranquility quotes by Jack O'Connell
Black and white are absolute ... expressing the most delicate vibration, the most profound tranquility, and unlimited profundity. ~ Shiko Munakata
Tranquility quotes by Shiko Munakata
Horses change lives. They give out young people confidence and self-esteem. They provide peace and tranquility to troubled souls, they give us hope. ~ Toni Robinson
Tranquility quotes by Toni Robinson
2001 was written in an age which now lies beyond one of the great divides in human history ; we are sundered from it forever by the moment when Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin stepped out on to the Sea of Tranquility. Now history and fiction have become inexorably intertwined. ~ Arthur C. Clarke
Tranquility quotes by Arthur C. Clarke
People stress the violence. That's the smallest part of it. Football is brutal only from a distance. In the middle of it there's a calm, a tranquility. The players accept pain. There's a sense of order even at the end of a running play with bodies strewn everywhere. When the systems interlock, there's a satisfaction to the game that can't be duplicated. There's a harmony. ~ Don DeLillo
Tranquility quotes by Don DeLillo
Peace is a process of self-realization, a realization that peace resides inside us, in our inner calmness and tranquility. ~ Debasish Mridha
Tranquility quotes by Debasish Mridha
It seemed as if Muzak had sucked the soul out of the songs, but in fact they had created something entirely new, something close to what Satie imagined: furniture music, music that was clearly a useful and (to their subscribers) functional part of the environment, there to induce calm and tranquility in their shops and offices. Why is it that Satie's compositions, Brian Eno's ambient music, or the minimal spaced-out ~ David Byrne
Tranquility quotes by David Byrne
When you're at peace with your life and in a state of tranquility, you actually send out a vibration of energy that impacts all living creatures, including plants, animals and even babies. ~ Wayne Dyer
Tranquility quotes by Wayne Dyer
An everlasting tranquility is, in my imagination, the highest possible felicity, because I know of no felicity on earth higher than that which a peaceful mind and contented heart afford. ~ Johann Georg Ritter Von Zimmermann
Tranquility quotes by Johann Georg Ritter Von Zimmermann
Meditation is a way of finding inner quietness and inner tranquility. ~ Debasish Mridha
Tranquility quotes by Debasish Mridha
If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen. ~ Samuel Adams
Tranquility quotes by Samuel Adams
Always guarding one's real, precious self in a cocoon of tranquility within a thousand masks.
Life itself had become a secret affair. ~ Mary Balogh
Tranquility quotes by Mary Balogh
It does not matter the circumstances, trials, or challenges that might surround us; an understanding of the doctrine of Christ and His Atonement will be the source of our strength and peace-yes, brothers and sisters, that internal tranquility that is born of the Spirit and which the Lord gives to His faithful Saints. ~ Benjamin De Hoyos
Tranquility quotes by Benjamin De Hoyos
Mental tranquility, or calmness, is a very important source of happiness. An external enemy, no matter how powerful, cannot strike directly at our mental calmness, because calmness is formless. Our happiness or joy can only be destroyed by our own anger. The real enemy of joy is anger. ~ Dalai Lama XIV
Tranquility quotes by Dalai Lama XIV
Do what you love. Know your own bone; gnaw at it, bury it, unearth it, and gnaw it still. ~ Henry David Thoreau
Tranquility quotes by Henry David Thoreau
The time of business does not differ with me from the time of prayer; and in the noise and clatter of my kitchen, while several persons are at the same time calling for different things, I possess God in as great tranquility as if I were on my knees. ~ Brother Lawrence
Tranquility quotes by Brother Lawrence
Flying back from New York, the flight attendant said 'God, I wished you were here yesterday, we had a stroke on the plane. I said, if I have a stroke on a plane, I hope the pretend doctor isn't the one on the plane. I want a real doctor. ~ Anthony Edwards
Tranquility quotes by Anthony Edwards
Strong passions are the precious raw material of sanctity. Individuals that have carried their sinning to extremes should not despair or say, "I am too great a sinner to change," or "God would not want me." God will take anyone who is willing to love, not with an occasional gesture, but with a "passionless passion," a "wild tranquility." A sinner, unrepentant, cannot love God, any more that a man on dry land can swim; but as soon as he takes his errant energies to God and asks for their redirection, he will become happy, as he was never happy before. It is not the wrong things one has already done which keep one from God; it is the present persistence in that wrong. ~ Fulton J. Sheen
Tranquility quotes by Fulton J. Sheen
I often paint tranquility. If you stop thinking and rest, then a little happiness comes into your mind. At perfect rest you are comfortable. ~ Agnes Martin
Tranquility quotes by Agnes Martin
There is no such thing as perpetual tranquillity of mind while we live here; because life itself is but motion, and can never be without desire, nor without fear, no more than without sense. ~ Thomas Hobbes
Tranquility quotes by Thomas Hobbes
I seek to use the tools of the mind to overcome a narcissistic self and attain self-mastery. I aspire to engage in self-cultivation by making practical usage of the process of enduring privations, overcoming challenges, and rejecting illicit temptations in order to gain fortitude, courage, and wisdom. I shall reflect upon grievous personal mistakes and embrace the concept of repentance as a lifelong growth process through which humankind conscientiously learns to make better choices by forsaking vice, immorality, and wickedness. I must also unreservedly embrace fate by perceiving everything that happens in life including suffering and loss as good, and affirm a life filled with indignity, sorrow, and tragedy. I can only discover happiness – a meaning, purpose, comprehensible truth, and essential value of existence – by living with dignity in the face of absurdity. When we affirm all aspects of being, we enjoy a tranquil existence. ~ Kilroy J. Oldster
Tranquility quotes by Kilroy J. Oldster
It is the just doom of laziness and gluttony to be inactive without ease and drowsy without tranquility. ~ Samuel Johnson
Tranquility quotes by Samuel Johnson
In the year of Christ 1571, at the age of thirty-eight, on the last day of February, anniversary of his birth, Michel de Montaigne, lon weary of the servitude of the court and of public employments, while still entire, retired to the bosom of the learned Virgins [Muses], where in calm and freedom from all cares he will spend what little remains of his life now more than half run out. If the fates permit, he will completethis abode, this sweet ancestral retreat; and he has consecrated it to his freedom, tranquility, and leisure. ~ Michel De Montaigne
Tranquility quotes by Michel De Montaigne
Genuine tranquility of the heart and perfect peace of mind, the highest blessings on earth after health, are to be found only in solitude and, as a permanent disposition, only in the deepest seclusion. ~ Schopenhauer
Tranquility quotes by Schopenhauer
Dear Neil Armstrong,

I write this to you as she sleeps down the hall. I need answers I think only you might have. When you were a boy, and space was simple science fiction, when flying was merely a daydream between periods of History and Physics, when gifts of moon dust to the one you loved could only be wrapped in your imagination.. Before the world knew your name; before it was a destination in the sky.. What was the moon like from your back yard?

Your arm, strong warm and wrapped under her hair both of you gazing up from your back porch summers before your distant journey. But upon landing on the moon, as the earth rose over the sea of tranquility, did you look for her? What was it like to see our planet, and know that everything, all you could be, all you could ever love and long for.. was just floating before you. Did you write her name in the dirt when the cameras weren't looking? Surrounding both your initials with a heart for alien life to study millions of years from now? What was it like to love something so distant? What words did you use to bring the moon back to her? And what did you promise in the moons ear, about that girl back home? Can you, teach me, how to fall from the sky?

I ask you this, not because I doubt your feat, I just want to know what it's like to go somewhere no man had ever been, just to find that she wasn't there. To realize your moon walk could never compare to the steps that led to her. I now know that the fli ~ Mike McGee
Tranquility quotes by Mike McGee
Does the Chinese national behind the Ban Mian counter, who holds a two-year work permit, appreciate the National Day songs that he has been listening to day in and day out for the past few months? I have a feeling that he is homesick to the bones and longs to be reunited with his family and loved ones back in Heilongjiang. He cannot wait for his son to grow up so that he himself can return to the peace and tranquility of his beloved village. In the meantime, he will bear the hardship and loneliness of staying in a foreign land. ~ Jim Tan
Tranquility quotes by Jim Tan
As a southerner I had been brought up to believe that through conditioning and experience you could accept with some measure of tranquility any of the flaws in the human situation. But death is one flaw that always lands like a fist in the center of the forehead. No matter how many times you see it, or smell its gray rotting odor, or come close to buying it yourself, each time is always like the first. No amount of earlier experience prepares you for it, and after it happens the world is somehow unfairly diminished and bent out of shape. ~ James Lee Burke
Tranquility quotes by James Lee Burke
