He who esteems the Virginia reel A bait to draw saints from their spiritual weal, And regards the quadrille as a far greater knavery Than crushing His African children with slavery, Since all who take part in a waltz or cotillon Are mounted for hell on the devil's own pillion, Who, as every true orthodox Christian well knows, Approaches the heart through the door of the toes. ~ James Russell Lowell
Esteems quotes by James Russell Lowell
Job 29 is about Job reflecting on his past before the calamity hit him to say this is the type of man I was. So, you want to know what God calls perfect and upright? Read Job 29, and you will understand what kind of man God esteems. ~ Eric Ludy
Esteems quotes by Eric Ludy
We are crucified to the world, and the world must be as crucified to us. It esteems us as fools, let us esteem it as mad. ~ Francis De Sales
Esteems quotes by Francis De Sales

How various his employments whom the world Calls idle; and who justly in return Esteems that busy world an idler too! ~ William Cowper
Esteems quotes by William Cowper
The Lord wants us to have a threefold confidence. First, we are to be confident that He loves us in our weakness. Second, we are to be confident that He esteems our weak love for Him as genuine.Third, we are to be confident that He still entrusts us with the calling that He originally gave us. ~ Mike Bickle
Esteems quotes by Mike Bickle
Light, The Hymn

Hail to the sun.
Hail to the stars.
Hail to the cosmos.
Hail to light!

In light we are made.
In light we are born.
In light we are raised.
In light we are enthroned.

In our minds it is wisdom.
In our hearts it is faith.
In our souls it is love.
In our lives it is God.

My mind honors light.
My heart esteems light.
My soul extols light.
How awesome light is.
How majestic light is.
How wonderful light is.

Feeding plants.
Nourishing animals.
Sustaining nature.
Serving people.
Supporting all.

Light illuminates the world.
Light illuminates the stars.
Light illuminates the universe.
Hail to the sun.
Hail to the stars.
Hail to the cosmos.
Hail to light!
Hail to God! ~ Matshona Dhliwayo
Esteems quotes by Matshona Dhliwayo
I Am!

I am - yet what I am none cares or knows;
My friends forsake me like a memory lost:
I am the self-consumer of my woes -
They rise and vanish in oblivious host,
Like shadows in love's frenzied stifled throes
And yet I am, and live - like vapours tossed

Into the nothingness of scorn and noise,
Into the living sea of waking dreams,
Where there is neither sense of life or joys,
But the vast shipwreck of my life's esteems;
Even the dearest that I loved the best
Are strange - nay, rather, stranger than the rest.

I long for scenes where man hath never trod
A place where woman never smiled or wept
There to abide with my Creator, God,
And sleep as I in childhood sweetly slept,
Untroubling and untroubled where I lie
The grass below - above the vaulted sky. ~ John Clare
Esteems quotes by John Clare
No man's condition is so base as his;
None more accurs'd than he; for man esteems
Him hateful, 'cause he seems not what he is;
God hates him, 'cause he is not what he seems;
What grief is absent, or what mischief can
Be added to the hate of God and man? ~ Francis Quarles
Esteems quotes by Francis Quarles
He who despises himself esteems himself as a self-despiser. ~ Friedrich Nietzsche
Esteems quotes by Friedrich Nietzsche
There is no country in which so absolute a homage is paid to wealth. In America there is a touch of shame when a man exhibits theevidences of large property, as if after all it needed apology. But the Englishman has pure pride in his wealth, and esteems it a final certificate. A coarse logic rules throughout all English souls: if you have merit, can you not show it by your good clothes and coach and horses? ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson
Esteems quotes by Ralph Waldo Emerson
We must not regard what or how the world esteems us, so we have the Word pure, and are certain of our doctrine. ~ Martin Luther
Esteems quotes by Martin Luther
If our friend steals our ideas, it proves that he esteems us: He would not take them unless he thought they were good. We are wrong in being annoyed that, for want of children of his own, he adopts ours. ~ Edmond Rostand
Esteems quotes by Edmond Rostand
The actual confident man, the man truly sure of himself, is not he who esteems himself higher than others, but he who is sure enough that he can bear to esteem others higher than himself. ~ Criss Jami
Esteems quotes by Criss Jami
The man that hails you Tom or Jack, and proves by thumps upon your back how he esteems your merit, is such a friend, that one had need be very much his friend indeed to pardon or to bear it. ~ William Cowper
Esteems quotes by William Cowper
One does not hate as long as one has a low esteem of someone, but only when one esteems him as an equal or a superior. ~ Friedrich Nietzsche
Esteems quotes by Friedrich Nietzsche
The difference between those whom the world esteems as good and those whom it condemns as bad, is in many cases little else than that the former have been better sheltered from temptation. ~ Augustus William Hare
Esteems quotes by Augustus William Hare
What is holiness? The end product of what holiness is it's to love God in the same way He loves Himself; it's to esteem God as much as He esteems Himself, and to separate yourself unto that love, and to keep yourself in that love. ~ Paul Washer
Esteems quotes by Paul Washer
DESDEMONA: I hope my noble lord esteems me honest.
OTHELLO: Oh, ay, as summer flies are in the shambles,
That quicken even with blowing. O thou weed,
Who art so lovely fair and smell'st so sweet
That the sense aches at thee, would thou hadst ne'er been born!
DESDEMONA: Alas, what ignorant sin have I committed?
OTHELLO: Was this fair paper, this most goodly book,
Made to write "whore" upon? ~ William Shakespeare
Esteems quotes by William Shakespeare
Reason judges in one way, custom in another. Reason judges by the light of truth, so that by right judgment it subjects lesser things to greater. Custom is often swayed by agreeable habits, so that it esteems as greater what truth reveals as lower. ~ Augustine Of Hippo
Esteems quotes by Augustine Of Hippo
Freedom is valued in a culture that wants to encourage dissent and to stimulate originality and independence. It belongs to a society which is open to change, and which esteems the agent of change, the individual, above its own peace of mind. ~ Jacob Bronowski
Esteems quotes by Jacob Bronowski
He who despises himself, nevertheless esteems himself as a self-despiser. (Nietzsche.)
A vain person is always vain about something. He overestimates the importance of some quality or exaggerates the degree to which he possesses it, but the quality has some real importance and he does possess it to some degree. The fantasy of overestimation or exaggeration makes the vain person comic, but the fact that he cannot be vain about nothing makes his vanity a venial sin, because it is always open to correction by appeal to objective fact.

A proud person, on the other hand, is not proud of anything, he is proud, he exists proudly. Pride is neither comic nor venial, but the most mortal of all sins because, lacking any basis in concrete particulars, it is both incorrigible and absolute: one cannot be more or less proud, only proud or humble.

Thus, if a painter tries to portray the Seven Deadly Sins, his experience will furnish him readily enough with images symbolic of Gluttony, Lust, Sloth, Anger, Avarice, and Envy, for all these are qualities of a person's relations to others and the world, but no experience can provide an image of Pride, for the relation it qualifies is the subjective relation of a person to himself. In the seventh frame, therefore, the painter can only place, in lieu of a canvas, a mirror. ~ W.H. Auden
Esteems quotes by W.H. Auden
There are no words that can be said to justify the beauty of a bride walking down the aisle in anticipation of sharing the rest of her life with the man she esteems and loves the most, nor of the look on that man's face, when he beholds the one who will be entrusting her life to him to protect and her heart for him to love. All that can be said is that all who witnessed it found themselves overwhelmed with the joy that comes with seeing that one moment when all feels and is as it should be. ~ Trix Wilkins
Esteems quotes by Trix Wilkins
God sure esteems the growth and completing of one virtuous person, more that the restraint of ten vicious. ~ John Milton
