I am so angry with myself because I cannot do what I should like to do, and at such a moment one feels as if one were lying bound hand and foot at the bottom of a deep dark well, utterly helpless. ~ Vincent Van Gogh
Deep Depression quotes by Vincent Van Gogh
Once a week, I like to slip into a deep existential depression where I lose all my sense of oneness and self-worth. ~ Bo Burnham
Deep Depression quotes by Bo Burnham
Another friend of mine once told me in a deep depression that his marriage was "like running a preschool with a roommate you used to date." Nice. ~ Nigel Marsh
Deep Depression quotes by Nigel Marsh
did everything feel beautiful when you let go of the idea of being anything at all? ~ Mitch Welling
Deep Depression quotes by Mitch Welling
..:One can lose his job, his car, his house, his savings, his/her wife/husband and so for. And one can still manage to be able to start all over again. To overcome. But its dangerous and catastrophic when one loses his/her faith, hope and mind. When one enters into deep depression. For it could really destroy a person completely or it may take him/her twice as much work to get back up. This is why we are to constantly be renewing our minds. To keep putting oil to our fading lamps. Watering our drying lands. Repositioning ourselves now and then. And specially, helping each other out. It's not good for men to be alone. Two are better than one. For if one falls, the other will help him out. Before bad times come, prepare yourself. Equip yourself. Renew yourself so you could use the circumstances as wind beneath your wings and so you could see circumstances as what they are. Not what they may seem. Someone once said, "Circumstances and trials are just events." They are not people nor your final destination:.. ~ Rafael Garcia
Deep Depression quotes by Rafael Garcia
I'm a walking economy. My hairline's in recession,my waist is a victim of inflation, and together they're putting me in a deep depression! ~ Anonymous
Deep Depression quotes by Anonymous
A phenomenon that a number of people have noted while in deep depression is the sense of being accompanied by a second self - a wraithlike observer who, not sharing the dementia of his double, is able to watch with dispassionate curiosity as his companion struggles against the oncoming disaster, or decides to embrace it. There is a theatrical quality about all this, and during the next several days, as I went about stolidly preparing for extinction, I couldn't shake off a sense of melodrama - a melodrama in which I, the victim-to-be of self-murder, was both the solitary actor and lone member of the audience. ~ William Styron
Deep Depression quotes by William Styron
When I need some striking inspiration about deep depression for my new painting, I just need to go to check my bank account ... ~ Hiroko Sakai
Deep Depression quotes by Hiroko Sakai
We don't know why, but pancreatic cancer has a very interesting physiological link to depression. There seems to be a deep link, and we don't know what it is. ~ Siddhartha Mukherjee
Deep Depression quotes by Siddhartha Mukherjee
If the financial system has a defect, it is that it reflects and magnifies what we human beings are like. Money amplifies our tendency to overreact, to swing from exuberance when things are going well to deep depression when they go wrong. Booms and busts are products, at root, of our emotional volatility. ~ Niall Ferguson
Deep Depression quotes by Niall Ferguson
When you realize how hard it is to know the truth about yourself, you understand that even the most exhaustive and well-meaning autobiography, determined to tell the truth, represents, at best, a guess. There have been times in my life when I felt incredibly happy. Life was full. I seemed productive. Then I thought,"Am I really happy or am I merely masking a deep depression with frantic activity?" If I don't know such basic things about myself, who does? ~ Phyllis Rose
Deep Depression quotes by Phyllis Rose
Strong emotional experiences are for the most part impersonal. Anyone who has hated another person so much that only chance stands between that person and death knows this, as does whoever has fallen into the catastrophe of a deep depression, anyone who has loved a woman to the dregs, anyone who has beaten others bloody or ever come up behind another person with muscles trembling. "Losing one's head," language calls it. Emotional experience is, in itself, poor in qualities; qualities are brought to it by the person who has the experience. ~ Robert Musil
Deep Depression quotes by Robert Musil
I can do comedy, so people want me to do that, but the other side of comedy is depression. Deep, deep depression is the flip side of comedy. Casting agents don't realize it but in order to be funny you have to have that other side. ~ Parker Posey
Deep Depression quotes by Parker Posey
It was probable that the widow knew more than others suspected of insanity in the Buchenau family, for there was an unsolved mystery lying half a century in the past, when Clara's uncle Hugo, a darkly moody man, had shot himself in an orchard one May morning, scattering his brains among the blossoms, and soon after, Clara's father had sunk into a deep depression and had at last to be taken to Mendota as insane, and there died. ~ August Derleth
Deep Depression quotes by August Derleth
Much of the deep depression that surrounds us in life has to do with this one thing - that we can't even see the smallest plainest objects. ~ Jesse Ball
Deep Depression quotes by Jesse Ball
I had a low image of myself because I was brought up in the deep Depression. ~ S. Truett Cathy
Deep Depression quotes by S. Truett Cathy
During the next four years ... unless drastic steps are taken by Congress, the U.S. will have nearly 8,000,000 unemployed and will stand on the brink of a deep depression. ~ Henry A. Wallace
Deep Depression quotes by Henry A. Wallace
And I always think of life like a giant wave. You know, it rises and it crests and it flies, and it's just magnificent, and then it crashes. And for a lot of people, when it crashes, that's the end, and they go down the deep, dark hole of depression. ~ Jane Seymour
Deep Depression quotes by Jane Seymour
To get out of depression, you need to find your exotic connection. ~ Talismanist Giebra
Deep Depression quotes by Talismanist Giebra
Inevitably, you react to your own work - you like it, you don't like it, you think it's interesting or boring - and it is difficult to accept that those reactions may be unreliable. In my experience, they are. I mistrust either wild enthusiasm or deep depression. I have had the best success with material that I was sort of neutral about ... ~ Michael Crichton
Deep Depression quotes by Michael Crichton
VERY EARLY ONE MORNING in July 1977, the FBI, having been tipped off about Operation Snow White, carried out raids on Scientology offices in Los Angeles and Washington, DC, carting off nearly fifty thousand documents. One of the files was titled "Operation Freakout." It concerned the treatment of Paulette Cooper, the journalist who had published an exposé of Scientology, The Scandal of Scientology, six years earlier. After having been indicted for perjury and making bomb threats against Scientology, Cooper had gone into a deep depression. She stopped eating. At one point, she weighed just eighty-three pounds. She considered suicide. Finally, she persuaded a doctor to give her sodium pentothal, or "truth serum," and question her under the anesthesia. The government was sufficiently impressed that the prosecutor dropped the case against her, but her reputation was ruined, she was broke, and her health was uncertain. The day after the FBI raid on the Scientology headquarters, Cooper was flying back from Africa, on assignment for a travel magazine, when she read a story in the International Herald Tribune about the raid. One of the files the federal agents discovered was titled "Operation Freakout." The goal of the operation was to get Cooper "incarcerated in a mental institution or jail. ~ Lawrence Wright
Deep Depression quotes by Lawrence Wright
No sin is necessarily connected with sorrow of heart, for Jesus Christ our Lord once said, "My soul is exceedingly sorrowful, even to death." There was no sin in Him, and consequently none in His deep depression. ~ Charles Spurgeon
Deep Depression quotes by Charles Spurgeon
We now know, as a few knew then, that the depression was not produced by a failure of private enterprise, but rather by a failure of government in an area in which the government had from the first been assigned responsibility - -"To coin money, regulate the Value thereof, and of foreign Coin," in the words of Section 8, Article 1, of the U.S. Constitution. Unfortunately, as we shall see in Chapter 9, government failure in managing money is not merely a historical curiosity but continues to be a present-day reality. ~ Milton Friedman
Deep Depression quotes by Milton Friedman
My feelings for you run very deep." - Loor
Not deep enought, I guess." - Bobby
(The Rivers of Zadaa) ~ D.J. MacHale
Deep Depression quotes by D.J. MacHale
You had the unimaginable luxury of thinking deep thoughts and pursuing endless intellectual conversations, of reveling in simple pleasures with the implicit permission to be totally self-absorbed. Then you grew up, and life hit you in the face with a two-by-four. ~ Kate Hewitt
Deep Depression quotes by Kate Hewitt
The more I have deep love and compassion for my earth and my fellows, the more love and compassion I have for myself, and vice versa. ~ Alysia Reiner
Deep Depression quotes by Alysia Reiner
Don't spin your wheels and stress. Take a deep breath, center yourself and make a plan. ~ Douglas Adams
Deep Depression quotes by Douglas Adams
Today the guns are silent. A great tragedy has ended. A great victory has been won. The skies no longer rain with death - the seas bear only commerce - men everywhere walk upright in the sunlight. The entire world lies quietly at peace. The holy mission has been completed. And in reporting this to you, the people, I speak for the thousands of silent lips, forever stilled among the jungles and the beaches and in the deep waters of the Pacific which marked the way. ~ Douglas MacArthur
Deep Depression quotes by Douglas MacArthur
Material possession is one thing, but ideological passion disgusts us on some deep level. ~ David Foster Wallace
Deep Depression quotes by David Foster Wallace
Books for me were what the ocean is to the fearless explorer-deep and mysterious, boundless and soothing. I loved the smell of books, the feel of their weight in my hands, the rustle of the pages as I turned them, the magnificent illustrations on the covers that promised hidden treasures within. ~ Steve Pemberton
Deep Depression quotes by Steve Pemberton
Boredom is an instrument of social control. Power is the power to impose boredom, to command stasis, to combine this stasis with anguish. The real tedium, deep tedium, is seasoned with terror and with death. ~ Saul Bellow
Deep Depression quotes by Saul Bellow
All emotion disappeared from his face and he took a deep breath through his nose. "I know what you're trying to do." His eyes unfocused for a moment, lost in thought. "I'll just have to prove it to you, then." His eyes narrowed as he looked into my eyes, determined as he was before one of his fights. "If you think I'm just going to go back to fucking around, you're wrong. I don't want anyone else. You wanna be friends? Fine, we're friends. But you and I both know that what happened wasn't just sex. ~ Jamie McGuire
Deep Depression quotes by Jamie McGuire
Yes, sir. I will get fucking lost somewhere. If you can't find me in a few days, you can bet that I'm balls deep in some pussy." I smile and leave the room. ~ Rose Dewallvin
Deep Depression quotes by Rose Dewallvin
Sharing a burdened heart with another who has the wisdom, strength, and knowledge to carry it, frees us from its weight long enough to focus on solutions ~ Gayathri Ramprasad
Deep Depression quotes by Gayathri Ramprasad
I have spent all my life advocating on behalf of the poor, oppressed and marginalized. As a social justice and human rights activist, and now as President of the Republic of Malawi, I have a deep appreciation for the challenges of those on the margins of society. ~ Joyce Banda
Deep Depression quotes by Joyce Banda
They weren't so different, the two of them. They'd both been abandoned by their parents, but at least she'd had the Professor. He'd seen something in her worth saving, but Harte never had that. She still might not trust him, but she understood him. The drive that made him who he was, the determination to prove himself - the bone-deep need to belong somewhere - those were all things she knew very well. She understood the hurt, too. The fear that there was something intrinsically wrong with you to make the people who were supposed to love you leave. The way that fear either hardened you or destroyed you. It had turned into a sort of armor for her, another weapon in her arsenal, and she suspected the same was true of Harte. ~ Lisa Maxwell
Deep Depression quotes by Lisa Maxwell
Youll never find your happiness in other people, places, money, possessions. It can only be found within a spiritual awaking deep in your soul! ~ Timothy Pina
Deep Depression quotes by Timothy Pina
It has the property of detonating very violently in certain circumstances. On one occasion a small amount of ether solution of pyroglycerin condensed in a glass bowl ... When the bowl was heated over a spirit lamp, an extremely violent explosion occurred, which shattered it into small fragments. On another occasion a drop was heated in a test-tube, and exploded with such violence that the glass splinters cut deep into my face and hands, and hurt other people who were standing some distance off in the room. ~ Ascanio Sobrero
Deep Depression quotes by Ascanio Sobrero
People often write me and ask how I keep my wood floors so clean when I live with a child and a dog, and my answer is that I use a technique called Suffering From a Mental Illness. ~ Heather Armstrong
Deep Depression quotes by Heather Armstrong
Nothing in recent history makes any sense without a deep understanding of WWII and The Holocaust. ~ A.E. Samaan
Deep Depression quotes by A.E. Samaan

Deep Depression quotes by Maya Angelou
It is in the nest of disappointment where depression lays its eggs. ~ Chloe Thurlow
Deep Depression quotes by Chloe Thurlow
perpetual inbox obsession wasn't an organizational expectation; rather, it was fueled by a deep insecurity that something important was going to happen and that he wouldn't respond in time to contribute meaningfully to the conversation. ~ Todd Henry
Deep Depression quotes by Todd Henry
The best place to bury a dead love is deep in the depths of memory where it can be cherished forever. ~ Georgina Gentry
Deep Depression quotes by Georgina Gentry
In the moment of deep creativity you disappear, God again starts functioning. ~ Rajneesh
Deep Depression quotes by Rajneesh
With that, I took a deep breath and leapt; spreading my arms, pretending I could fly ... ~ Chelsie Shakespeare
Deep Depression quotes by Chelsie Shakespeare
Mental imbalance is about as acceptable as herpes. It's never going to be accepted. But really, it's a disease just like cancer. It just happens, and eats away all the good parts of your brain, like judgment and happiness and perception and memory and life. And you can die from depression just like any other disease. And it's not as if people choose it. So why is it still a joke of medicine? "She died of cancer." is a lot more socially acceptable to people than "She committed suicide. ~ Sarahbeth Purcell
Deep Depression quotes by Sarahbeth Purcell
Climb the steep Cold Mountain way Roads to Cold Mountain are many and never ending The valleys are long and deep, the peaks piled high The streams are wide, the grass is thick The moss is slippery though there is no rain The pines sigh though there is no wind Who can escape the snares of the world And come to sit with me among the white clouds? ~ Hanshan
Deep Depression quotes by Hanshan
The water in a vessel is sparkling; the water in the sea is dark. The small truth has words which are clear; the great truth has great silence. ~ Rabindranath Tagore
Deep Depression quotes by Rabindranath Tagore
I took a deep breath and sighed in awe. My proverbial penis had just gotten a serious chubby. ~ J.L. McCoy
Deep Depression quotes by J.L. McCoy
You're all alone in these streets, cousin Every man for theirself ~ Mobb Deep
Deep Depression quotes by Mobb Deep
Since I am writing a book about depression, I am often asked in social situations to describe my own experiences, and I usually end by saying that I am on medication.
"Still?" people ask. "But you seem fine!" To which I invariably reply that I seem fine because I am fine, and that I am fine in part because of medication.
"So how long do you expect to go on taking this stuff?" people ask. When I say that I will be on medication indefinitely, people who have dealt calmly and sympathetically with the news of suicide attempts, catatonia, missed years of work, significant loss of body weight, and so on stare at me with alarm.
"But it's really bad to be on medicine that way," they say. "Surely now you are strong enough to be able to phase out some of these drugs!" If you say to them that this is like phasing the carburetor out of your car or the buttresses out of Notre Dame, they laugh.
"So maybe you'll stay on a really low maintenance dose?" They ask. You explain that the level of medication you take was chosen because it normalizes the systems that can go haywire, and that a low dose of medication would be like removing half of your carburetor. You add that you have experienced almost no side effects from the medication you are taking, and that there is no evidence of negative effects of long-term medication. You say that you really don't want to get sick again. But wellness is still, in this area, associated not with achieving control of your problem, but ~ Andrew Solomon
Deep Depression quotes by Andrew Solomon
The Pascal of our generation puts it this way: "We run away like conscientious little bugs, scared rabbits, dancing attendance on our machines, our slaves, our masters" - clicking, scrolling, tapping, liking, sharing . . . anything. "We think we want peace and silence and freedom and leisure, but deep down we know that this would be unendurable to us." In fact, "we want to complexify our lives. We don't have to, we want to. We want to be harried and hassled and busy. Unconsciously, we want the very thing we complain about. For if we had leisure, we would look at ourselves and listen to our hearts and see the great gaping hole in our hearts and be terrified, because that hole is so big that nothing but God can fill it."12 ~ Tony Reinke
Deep Depression quotes by Tony Reinke
A lot of women don't know how to love because there's deep reasons for them not knowing how to love. And what I mean by deep reasons is deep and dark reasons. ~ Lil' Wayne
Deep Depression quotes by Lil' Wayne
Memories have huge staying power, but like dreams, they thrive in the dark, surviving for decades in the deep waters of our minds like shipwrecks on the sea bed. ~ J.G. Ballard
Deep Depression quotes by J.G. Ballard
Any place where their thoughts are not allowed to stray is guarded by his voices steering them back to the permitted pastures. Any sadness or longing is immediately burned from the mind by the steady flame of his teachings in his voice. Sadness, depression, longings are luxuries. How can any sane mind be sad at the prospect of the kingdom of heaven, unless the sadness is merely impatience? ~ Fred D'Aguiar
Deep Depression quotes by Fred D'Aguiar
