There were several key American scientists that favorably reported on Nazi eugenics after visiting Hitler's Germany in order to provide it cover. ~ A.E. Samaan
Holocaust History quotes by A.E. Samaan
As I walked out of the ghetto with its tombstone-crowned walls and along the streets of Krakow, I was dumbfounded to see that life seemed just as it had been before I entered the ghetto. It was as if I were in a time warp...or as if the ghetto were on another planet. I stared at the clean, well-dressed people, busily moving from place to place. They seemed so normal, so happy. Had they not known what we had been suffering just a few blocks away? How could they not have known? How could they not have done something to help us? A streetcar stopped, and passengers boarded, oblivious to our presence. They showed absolutely no interest in who we were, where we were going, or why. That our misery, confinement, and pain were irrelevant to their lives was simply incomprehensible. ~ Leon Leyson
Holocaust History quotes by Leon Leyson
I'm obsessed with history, especially WWII and the Jews in Europe during the Holocaust. ~ Amy Heckerling
Holocaust History quotes by Amy Heckerling
You cannot write an accurate history of The Holocaust without accounting for the Harvard students and professors that help make the science an acceptable world-wide movement. ~ A.E. Samaan
Holocaust History quotes by A.E. Samaan
All truth-seekers should study the genocide that was the Holocaust and ask themselves how on Earth this event was 'allowed' to occur, keeping in mind allowed is the correct term as there was no shortage of witnesses, including those all over Europe who stood by and did nothing to intervene. If those bystanders hadn't just stood by, perhaps the history books would tell a different story. ~ James Morcan
Holocaust History quotes by James Morcan
JULIAN HUXLEY'S "EUGENICS MANIFESTO":
"Eugenics Manifesto" was the name given to an article supporting eugenics. The document, which appeared in Nature, September 16, 1939, was a joint statement issued by America's and Britain's most prominent biologists, and was widely referred to as the "Eugenics Manifesto." The manifesto was a response to a request from Science Service, of Washington, D.C. for a reply to the question "How could the world's population be improved most effectively genetically?" Two of the main signatories and authors were Hermann J. Muller and Julian Huxley. Julian Huxley, as this book documents, was the founding director of UNESCO from the famous Huxley family. Muller was an American geneticist, educator and Nobel laureate best known for his work on the physiological and genetic effects of radiation. Put into the context of the timeline, this document was published 15 years after "Mein Kampf" and a year after the highly publicized violence of Kristallnacht. In other words, there is no way either Muller or Huxley were unaware at the moment of publication of the historical implications of eugenic agendas. ~ A.E. Samaan
Holocaust History quotes by A.E. Samaan
Nothing about these times makes any sense. Nothing. Putting it to words only makes it sound too simple. ~ Ralph Webster
Holocaust History quotes by Ralph Webster
Freedom of speech means you can say whatever you want. What you can't do is lie and expect not to be held accountable for it. Not all opinions are equal. And some things happened, just like we say they do. Slavery happened, the Black Death happened. The Earth is round, the ice caps are melting, and Elvis is not alive. ~ -Deborah Lipstadt, Denial: Holocaust History On Trial
Holocaust History quotes by -Deborah Lipstadt, Denial: Holocaust History On Trial
Within a decade or two, all Holocaust survivors will likely have passed away so a ticking clock is in effect in this battle between the truth and lies. Keep in mind even those survivors born in a concentration camp during WW2 would be at least 71 years-of-age when this book (the one you are reading now) was released. Those survivors old enough to clearly recall the events of that nightmare will, of course, be older and have much less time left. As the memory of the Holocaust begins to fade away, it will become easier to deny the genocide even occurred unless those of us who are truthseekers are able to embrace the memory of the genocide and educate others do the same. What's needed in this propaganda war is for the true stories of Holocaust survivors – as well as those of the Nazi perpetrators, their associates and others who witnessed the genocide – to be told loudly and clearly so that there will never, ever be room for doubt in generations to come. After all, nothing is more powerful, credible or damning than eyewitness accounts. ~ James Morcan
Holocaust History quotes by James Morcan
I thought those were others. Soon, I was to learn that they were us. ~ Ralph Webster
Holocaust History quotes by Ralph Webster
Never forget, the world said after the Holocaust. But the world is forgetting. ~ E.J. Wood
Holocaust History quotes by E.J. Wood
Of the tens of thousands of words spoken during the Nuremberg Nazi trial, the word "eugenics" was said only once. ~ A.E. Samaan
Holocaust History quotes by A.E. Samaan
We have learned the lines of good taste through history and our sense of guilt, be it post-colonial or post-Holocaust. ~ Patrick Chappatte
Holocaust History quotes by Patrick Chappatte
More often and more insistently as that time recedes, we are asked by the young who our "torturers" were, of what cloth were they made. The term torturers alludes to our ex-guardians, the SS, and is in my opinion inappropriate: it brings to mind twisted individuals, ill-born, sadists, afflicted by an original flaw. Instead, they were made of the same cloth as we, they were average human beings, averagely intelligent, averagely wicked: save the exceptions, they were not monsters, they had our faces, but they had been reared badly. They were, for the greater part, diligent followers and functionaries, some frantically convinced of the Nazi doctrine, many indifferent, or fearful of punishment, or desirous of a good career, or too obedient. All of them had been subjected to the terrifying miseducation provided for and imposed by the schools created in accordance with the wishes of Hitler and his collaborators, and then completed by the SS "drill." Many had joined this militia because of the prestige it conferred, because of its omnipotence, or even just to escape family problems. Some, very few in truth, had changes of heart, requested transfers to the front lines, gave cautious help to prisoners or chose suicide. Let it be clear that to a greater or lesser degree all were responsible, but it must bee just as clear that behind their responsibility stands that the great majority of Germans who accepted in the beginning, out of mental laziness, myopic calculation, stupidity, and na ~ Primo Levi
Holocaust History quotes by Primo Levi
If you are a denier, get on the right side of history and stop being so gullible. Remember, it has been historically and scientifically proven, in a court of law no less, that more than 1.2 million Jews, along with 20,000 gypsies and tens of thousands of Polish and Russian political prisoners, were killed at Auschwitz alone. Beyond that, Yad Vashem's Central Database of Shoah Victims' Names has collected 4.5 million Jewish victims' names (and counting) from various archival sources. How much more evidence could you possibly want? ~ James Morcan
Holocaust History quotes by James Morcan
To deny the reported six million (approximately) Jews who died, or the 11 million people in total, is to ignore all the eyewitness accounts from Holocaust survivors, the non-Jewish witnesses of the millions who died the open-air massacres around Europe, the concentration camp guards, Nazi officers who admitted to gassings and other related crimes immediately after WW2, and the universal agreement of all mainstream historians who have studied this historical event inside out – not to mention every single scientist who has ever analyzed forensic evidence retrieved from the Nazi genocide. Not even the most corrupt courtroom on Earth could ignore this much evidence – for collectively these confirmations of the Holocaust equate to irrefutable proof that the reported death toll is indeed correct. It is possibly the most well-documented crime of the 20th Century, but remember for religious extremists, Nazi apologists or other anti-Semites it would never matter how much evidence you put in front of them. They would always deny the Holocaust because to admit the event occurred would be to stop believing the Jews are inferior to them. It would also require such bigots to admit the very uncomfortable truth to themselves: that their 'own kind' did these despicable things to the Jewish people. ~ James Morcan
Holocaust History quotes by James Morcan
As a Jewish kid during those times, I fought to live every day. I didn't have a choice. As an influential Nazi, Schindler did have a choice. Countless times he could have abandoned us, taken his fortune, and fled. He could have decided that his life depended on working us to death but he didn't. Instead, he put his own life in danger every time he protected us for no other reason than it was the right thing to do. I am not a philosopher, but I believe that Oskar Schindler defines heroism. He proves that one person can stand up to evil and make a difference. I am living proof of that. I recall a television interview I once saw with scholar and writer Joseph Campbell. I've never forgotten his definition of a hero. Campbell said that a hero is an ordinary human being who does "the best of things in the worst of times". Oskar Schindler personifies that definition. ~ Leon Leyson
Holocaust History quotes by Leon Leyson
Some critics argue about the exact number of millions of people murdered in the socialist Wholecaust (of which the Holocaust was a part) under Stalin, Mao, Hitler, and other socialists. I remember the retort of the historian Dr. Rex Curry: a million murdered here, a million murdered there, pretty soon you are talking a lot of people. ~ Lin Xun
Holocaust History quotes by Lin Xun
Six million Jews died in the Holocaust. Yet many people simply cannot accept this. They keep bringing up red herring after red herring to avoid finally admitting "YES, it happened exactly as the history books say, end of story." Which, of course, is the only correct response to the question anti-Semites raise about whether or not this historically and forensically-proven Nazi genocide even happened. ~ James Morcan
Holocaust History quotes by James Morcan
Nothing in recent history makes any sense without a deep understanding of WWII and The Holocaust. ~ A.E. Samaan
Holocaust History quotes by A.E. Samaan
Churchill's 2,054 page book "Second World War" makes no mention of genocide or the murder of Jews. Coincidentally, Churchill was a strong proponent of eugenic legislation prior to the outbreak of WWII. ~ A.E. Samaan
Holocaust History quotes by A.E. Samaan
I can tell you that events were incremental, that the unbelievable became the believable and, ultimately, the normal. ~ Ralph Webster
Holocaust History quotes by Ralph Webster
In the knowing, there was peace. ~ Jennifer A. Nielsen
Holocaust History quotes by Jennifer A. Nielsen
Another crucial thing to question is why deniers even bother to quibble about the number of deaths. If one day it were proven only five million or 5.5 million Jews were exterminated, would it be any less an atrocity? What number would deniers suggest is low enough to say that genocide didn't occur and that it's not important that humanity remembers the Holocaust and the lessons learnt? ~ James Morcan
Holocaust History quotes by James Morcan
It seems unavoidable that history will always link the reestablishment of the State of Israel with the tragedy of the Holocaust. ~ David Novak
Holocaust History quotes by David Novak
I was once a statist, and then I researched The Holocaust. I am now a Libertarian. ~ A.E. Samaan
Holocaust History quotes by A.E. Samaan
A people eager to prejudge guilt as opposed to innocence, are a people ripe and ready to become a despot's "willing executioners". ~ A.E. Samaan
Holocaust History quotes by A.E. Samaan
Most young men and women (...) grow up in a sort of permanent present lacking any organic relation to the public past of the times they live in. This makes historians, whose business it is to remember what others forgot, more essential (...) than ever before. ~ Eric J. Hobsbawm
Holocaust History quotes by Eric J. Hobsbawm
There was no control except the mood of his power ... and it is for this reason it is good you never heard him play someplace where the weather for instance could change the next series of notes
then you should never have heard him at all. He was never recorded. He stayed away while others moved into wax history, electronic history, those who said later that Boldon broke the path. It was just as important to watch him stretch and wheel around the last notes or to watch nerves jumping under the sweat of his head. ~ Michael Ondaatje
Holocaust History quotes by Michael Ondaatje
Inventors and geniuses have almost always been looked on as no better than fools at the beginning of their career, and very frequently at the end of it also. ~ Fyodor Dostoevsky
Holocaust History quotes by Fyodor Dostoevsky
There's a phenomenology of being sick, one that depends on temperament, personal history, and the culture which we live in. ~ Siri Hustvedt
Holocaust History quotes by Siri Hustvedt
A hero. You want to be one of those rare human beings who make history, rather than merely watch it flow around them like water around a rock. ~ Dan Simmons
Holocaust History quotes by Dan Simmons
During bull markets, everyone believes that he is committed to stocks for the long term. Unfortunately, history also tells us that during bear markets, you can hardly give stocks away. Most investors are simply not capable of withstanding the vicissitudes of an all-stock investment strategy. The ~ William J. Bernstein
Holocaust History quotes by William J. Bernstein
Ay me! for aught that I could ever read, Could ever hear by tale or history, The course of true love never did run smooth. But, either it was different in blood,- Or else it stood upon the choice of friends,- Or, if there were a sympathy in choice, War, death, or sickness did lay siege to it. ~ William Shakespeare
Holocaust History quotes by William Shakespeare
I am convinced that human history has not yet begun, that we find ourselves in the last period of the prehistoric. ~ Bartolomeo Vanzetti
Holocaust History quotes by Bartolomeo Vanzetti
I just feel like history is very much alive and important and I don't, you know, I can't worry about whether people get it or not, per se. ~ Greg Proops
Holocaust History quotes by Greg Proops
They weren't protected by our own laws. They were on their own.

Doesn't sound terribly American.

On the contrary, it's very American, Will said bitterly ~ Libba Bray
Holocaust History quotes by Libba Bray
The greatest threat to private wealth throughout history has always been institutionalized violence, the incarnation of which we have referred to as "the State" only over the past few centuries. This ~ Rahim Taghizadegan
Holocaust History quotes by Rahim Taghizadegan
The Balkans I know is the Balkans from below: a space of bogoumils- these medieval heretics who fought against the Crusades and churches- and a place of anti-Ottoman resistance; a home to hajduks and klephts, pirates and rebels; a refuge of feminists and socialists, of antifascist and partisans; a place of dreamers of all sorts struggling both against provincial "peninsularity" as well as against occupations, foreign interventions and that process which is now, in a strange inversion of history, often described with that fashionable phrase, "balkanization." (p.11) ~ Andrej Grubacic
Holocaust History quotes by Andrej Grubacic
The birth and growth of modern antisemitism has been accompanied by and interconnected with Jewish assimilation, the secularization and withering away of the old religious and spiritual values of Judaism. What actually happened was that great parts of the Jewish people were at the same time threatened by physical extinction from without and dissolution from within. In this situation, Jews concerned with the survival of their people would, in a curious and desperate misinterpretation, hit on the consoling idea that antisemitism, after all, might be an excellent means for keeping the people together so that the assumption of external antisemitism would even imply an external guarantee of Jewish existence. This superstition, a secularized travesty of the idea of eternity inherent in a faith in chosenness and a Messianic hope, has been strengthened through the fact that for many centuries the Jews experienced the Christian brand of hostility which was indeed a powerful agent of preservation, spiritually as well as politically. The Jews mistook modern anti-Christian antisemitism for the old religious Jew-hatred - and this all the more innocently because their assimilation had by-passed Christianity in its religious and cultural aspect. Confronted with an obvious symptom of the decline of Christianity, they could therefore imagine in all ignorance that this was some revival of the so-called "Dark Ages." Ignorance or misunderstanding of their own past were partly responsible for the ~ Hannah Arendt
Holocaust History quotes by Hannah Arendt
Sammy Sosa's a September player, so you have to watch out for him. It's crunch time, time to make history. ~ Mark McGwire
Holocaust History quotes by Mark McGwire
I just read history books. I read nothing but history books. They have so much to give; I wish I'd majored in history in college. ~ James McBride
Holocaust History quotes by James McBride
[When it comes to writing]The first steps that are the hardest. Mine were accidental in a away. I wrote what I wanted on a blog & the rest is history. ~ A.J. Walters
Holocaust History quotes by A.J. Walters
Borrowing money on what's called 'easy terms,' is a one-way ticket to the Poor House. If you think it ain't a Sucker Game, why is your Banker the richest man in your Town? Why is your Bank the biggest and finest building in your Town? Instead of passing Bills to make borrowing easy, if Congress had passed a Bill that no Person could borrow a cent of Money from any other person, they would have gone down in History as committing the greatest bit of Legislation in the World. ~ Will Rogers
Holocaust History quotes by Will Rogers
I write to breath life back into memory to remind African-Americans of our rich and textured history. I also see myself as a "root," and for me the "fierce winds" include the marginalization-the downright segregation-of literature written by people of color. ~ Bernice L. McFadden
Holocaust History quotes by Bernice L. McFadden
Nothing shines up a halo faster than death Matthew. But funerals are for the living... and revising history... only dilutes the lessons we should learn from it. ~ Father Lantom, Daredevil
Holocaust History quotes by Father Lantom, Daredevil
Where once his grandparents put up crucifixes and images of the benediction on their walls, he and Reine-Marie put up books on theirs. History books. Reference books. Biographies. Fiction, nonfiction. Stories lined the walls and both insulated them from the outside world and connected them to it. ~ Louise Penny
Holocaust History quotes by Louise Penny
I heard you in that courtroom today. I've even seen you here a couple times before. I know's you a stonecatcher, too. ~ Bryan Stevenson
Holocaust History quotes by Bryan Stevenson
At 378 parts per million, current CO2 levels are unprecedented in recent geological history. (The previous high, of 299 parts per million, was reached around 325,000 years ago). It is believed that the last time carbon dioxide levels were comparable to today's was three and a half million years ago, during what is known as the mid-Pliocene warm period, and it is likely that they have not been much higher since the Eocene, some fifty million years ago. In the Eocene, crocodiles roamed Colorado and sea levels were nearly three hundred feet higher than they are today. A scientist with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) put it to me - only half-jokingly - this way: It's true that we've had higher CO2 levels before. But, then, of course, we also had dinosaurs. ~ Elizabeth Kolbert
Holocaust History quotes by Elizabeth Kolbert
History does not repeat itself, but it rhyme. ~ Joseph Anthony
Holocaust History quotes by Joseph Anthony
Even post-WWII, nobody talked about the Holocaust. It wasn't until the '50s that people started talking about it. ~ Eli Roth
Holocaust History quotes by Eli Roth
Those who don't know history may be bound to repeat it. But even people who know it may follow the same fate if they interpret it exclusively in their own favor. ~ Yanko Tsvetkov
Holocaust History quotes by Yanko Tsvetkov
I am not a fiction reader. If I already do, I read fiction always more like the illustration of a philosophical-political thesis than a novel. My preference is history. If one does not know history, he is condemned to relive it. ~ Louis Tobback
Holocaust History quotes by Louis Tobback
In our wildest aberrations we dream of an equilibrium we have left behind and which we naively expect to find at the end of our errors. Childish presumption which justifies the fact that child-nations, inheriting our follies, are now directing our history. ~ Albert Camus
Holocaust History quotes by Albert Camus
We go where our family goes. We go where our friends are, and because our social networks are so segregated by race, we end up with what we have. We also find that, you know, if you're immigrants, you're not part of that history. ~ Michael Emerson
Holocaust History quotes by Michael Emerson
Those who don't know history are destined to repeat it. ~ Edmund Burke
Holocaust History quotes by Edmund Burke
We learn from experience that men never learn anything from experience. ~ George Bernard Shaw
Holocaust History quotes by George Bernard Shaw
Is it true that human beings are fundamentally cruel? Is the experience of cruelty the only thing we share as a species? Is the dignity that we cling to nothing but self-delusion, masking from ourselves the single truth: that each one of us is capable of being reduced to an insect, a ravening beast, a lump of meat? To be degraded, slaughtered - is this the essential of humankind, one which history has confirmed as inevitable? ~ Han Kang
Holocaust History quotes by Han Kang
Won't it be wonderful when black history and native American history and Jewish history and all of U.S. history is taught from one book. Just U.S. history. ~ Maya Angelou
Holocaust History quotes by Maya Angelou
Tethered to the universe by tendrils of history, with threads of continuity descending to God knows where, I see that I'm more than the dust I'll become."
This quote is from my novel, "Whispers from St. Mary's Well." Many readers have said that, like the fictional narrator of the story, Carrie Rose Stillwell, they felt a deep connection to the universe through past, present, and future experiences, after reading the story of a child who communicates with future generations. ~ Carol Kenny
Holocaust History quotes by Carol Kenny
We get our ethics from our history and judge our history by our ethics. ~ Ernst Troeltsch
Holocaust History quotes by Ernst Troeltsch
It was a Different Time. People were Friendly. We trusted each other. Hell, you could afford to get mixed up with wild strangers in those days
without fearing for your life, or your eyes, or your organs, or all of your money, or even getting locked up in prison forever. There was a sense of possibility. People were not so afraid, as they are now. You could run around naked without getting shot. You could check into a roadside motel on the outskirts of Ely or Winnemucca or Elko where you were lost in a midnight rainstorm
and nobody called the police on you, just to check out your credit and your employment history and your medical records and how many parking tickets you owed in California. ~ Hunter S. Thompson
Holocaust History quotes by Hunter S. Thompson
Oftentimes she wondered what had happened to super 8. Sure, it made perfect sense that nobody wanted the hassle of spending money on a three-minute cartridge of film and threading it through a projector, but though digital cameras were convenient and cheap, Mandy didn't care. Super 8 had integrity, it wasn't just nostalgia, it was art, it was history, it was a little recording medium that somehow possessed the power to evoke lost memories, to turn back time, and there was something dazzling about waiting excitedly for a reel of film to come back in its yellow and red Kodak envelope, eating buttered popcorn while the projector paraded life's best moments, and capturing something beautiful in only three minutes. ~ Rebecca McNutt
Holocaust History quotes by Rebecca McNutt
If the American government can't stand behind the dollar, the world's benchmark currency, then the global financial system will very likely enter a new era in which there is much less trade and much less economic growth. It would be, by most accounts, the largest self-imposed financial disaster in history. ~ Adam Davidson
Holocaust History quotes by Adam Davidson
History does not always repeat itself. Sometimes it just yells, 'Can't you remember anything I told you?' and lets fly with a club. ~ John W. Campbell Jr.
Holocaust History quotes by John W. Campbell Jr.
Crime fiction is the fiction of social history. Societies get the crimes they deserve. ~ Denise Mina
Holocaust History quotes by Denise Mina
As history has also shown, especially in the twentieth century, one of the first things an ideologue will do after achieving absolute power is kill. ~ Thomas Sowell
Holocaust History quotes by Thomas Sowell
I will write your name in the ruin of them. I will paint you across history in the color of their blood. ~ Seth Dickinson
Holocaust History quotes by Seth Dickinson
By creating a society in which all people, of all colors, were granted freedom and citizenship, the Haitian Revolution forever transformed the world. It was a central part of the destruction of slavery in the Americas, and therefore a crucial moment in the history of democracy, one that laid the foundation for the continuing struggles for human rights everywhere. In this sense we are all descendents of the Haitain Revolution, and responsible to these ancestors. ~ Laurent Dubois
Holocaust History quotes by Laurent Dubois
Marriage is the most obvious public practice about which information is readily available. When combined with the traditional Jewish concern for continuity and self-preservation - itself only intensified by the memory of the Holocaust - marriage becomes the sine qua non of social membership in the modern Orthodox community. ~ Noah Feldman
Holocaust History quotes by Noah Feldman
The only history that matters is the history we know. ~ Ezra Pound
Holocaust History quotes by Ezra Pound
It Begins with skepticism. The history of human folly, and our own susceptibility to illusions and fallacies, tell us that men and women are fallible. ~ Steven Pinker
Holocaust History quotes by Steven Pinker
Men make history, but they can never know the history they are making. ~ Joseph J. Ellis
