I think every one who has some vague belief in God, until he becomes a Christian, has the idea of an exam, or of a bargain in his mind. The first result of real Christianity is to blow that idea into bits. When they find it blown into bits, some people think this means that Christianity is a failure and give up. They seem to imagine that God is very simple-minded! In fact, of course, He knows all about this. One of the very things Christianity was designed to do was to blow this idea to bits. God has been waiting for the moment at which you discover that there is no question of earning a pass mark in this exam, or putting Him in your debt.

Then comes another discovery. Every faculty you have, your power of thinking or of moving your limbs from moment to moment, is given you by God. If you devoted every moment of your whole life exclusively to His service you could not give Him anything that was not in a sense His own already. So that when we talk of a man doing anything for God or giving anything to God, I will tell you what it is really like.

It is like a small child going to its father and saying, "Daddy, give me sixpence to buy you a birthday present." Of course, the father does, and he is pleased with the child's present. It is all very nice and proper, but only an idiot would think that the father is sixpence to the good on the transaction. When a man has made these two discoveries God can really get to work. It is after this that real life begins. ~ C.S. Lewis
Belief In God quotes by C.S. Lewis
If one believes in a god, one is a Theist. If one does not believe in a god, then one is an A-theist - he is without that belief. The distinction between atheism and theism is entirely, exclusively, that of whether one has or has not a belief in God. ~ Chapman Cohen
Belief In God quotes by Chapman Cohen
Years ago, a Muslim woman called my radio show and asked me why I was not a Muslim. She asked this question with complete sincerity, and I answered her with equal sincerity.
The name of her religion, I told her, is Islam, which in Arabic means submission (to God). The name of the Jewish people is Israel, which in Hebrew means struggle with God. I'd rather struggle with God, I said, than only submit to God.
She thanked me and hung up. The answer apparently satisfied her.
Arguing/struggling with God is not only Jewishly permitted, it is central to the Torah and later Judaism. In this regard, as in others, the Torah is unique. In no other foundational religious text of which I am aware is arguing with God a religious expectation. The very first Jew, Abraham, argues with God, as does the greatest Jew, Moses. (It is worth noting that though Muslims consider Abraham their father as well, arguing with God has no place in the Quran or in normative Islam.)
It is difficult to overstate the importance of this Jewish concept. For one thing, it enabled Jews to believe in the importance of reason - God Himself could be challenged on the basis of reason and morality; one does not have to suspend reason to be a believing Jew. Indeed, it assured Jews that belief in God was itself the apotheosis of reason. For another, it had profound psychological benefits to Jews. We do not have to squelch our questioning of, or even our anger at, God. One can be both religious and real ~ Dennis Prager
Belief In God quotes by Dennis Prager
We can call the attempt to refute theism by displaying the continuity of belief in God with primitive delusions the method of Anthropological intimidation. ~ Edwyn Bevan
Belief In God quotes by Edwyn Bevan
There is something distinctly odd about the argument, however. Believing is not something you can decide to do as a matter of policy. At least, it is not something I can decide to do as an act of will. I can decide to go to church and I can decide to recite the Nicene Creed, and I can decide to swear on a stack of bibles that I believe every word inside them. But none of that can make me actually believe it if I don't. Pascal's Wager could only ever be an argument for feigning belief in God. And the God that you claim to believe in had better not be of the omniscient kind or he'd see through the deception. ~ Richard Dawkins
Belief In God quotes by Richard Dawkins
Christianity has such a contemptible opinion of human nature that it does not believe a man can tell the truth unless frightened by a belief in god. No lower opinion of the human race has ever been expressed. ~ Robert Green Ingersoll
Belief In God quotes by Robert Green Ingersoll
What is it about our specific belief in God and His wishes that makes us so angry at the specific beliefs of another? What is it about the teachings of our respective deities that makes us more right than the next person? Or more wrong? ~ Chuck Austen
Belief In God quotes by Chuck Austen
If we cling to belief in God, we cannot likewise have faith, since faith is not clinging but letting go. ~ Alan W. Watts
Belief In God quotes by Alan W. Watts
At no time have I ever said that people should be stripped of their right to the insanity of belief in God. If they want to practice this kind of irrationality, that's their business. It won't get them anywhere; it certainly won't make them happier or more compassionate human beings; but if they want to chew that particular cud. they're welcome to it. ~ Madalyn Murray O'Hair
Belief In God quotes by Madalyn Murray O'Hair
For the believer, participating in ritual activity is a 're-enactment of profound truth,' that which makes one belong to a belief system drawing the believer and the community of believers near to God. Yet despite its central role, the essence of a religious belief cannot be grasped by simply observing ritual practice. Ritual can mark, identify and separate a community of believers, it can point to what is held most sacred in terms of rites and worship, but it can never quite capture faith, for faith transcends form and imagery. This is particularly true of Islam, where faith is presented a a gradual process from Islam (surrender) to iman (faith) to the final state of ihsan (doing good). Belief in God is a deeper state of awareness, of conviction and of humility, all of which ultimately lie beyond ritual. ~ Mona Siddiqui
Belief In God quotes by Mona Siddiqui
Tim Keller's ministry in New York City is leading a generation of seekers and skeptics toward belief in God. I thank God for him. ~ Billy Graham
Belief In God quotes by Billy Graham
A comfort zone can be a mental state:Belief in God is a lot of peoples's comfort zone. Dont get me wrong, I'm not knocking faith; I just dont think you should have it because it makes you feel safe. I think you should have it because you do. Because somewhere deep inside you, you know beyond equivocating that something greater, wiser and infinitely more loving than we're capable of understanding has a vested interested in the universe, in the way things turn out. Because you can feel that, as much as the forces of darkness might try to gain the upper hand, there is an Upper Hand. ~ Karen Marie Moning
Belief In God quotes by Karen Marie Moning
God exist whether or not men may choose to believe in Him. The reason why many people do not believe in God is not so much that it is intellectually impossible to believe in God, but because belief in God forces that thoughtful person to face the fact that he is accountable to such a God. ~ Robert Alexander Crookston Laidlaw
Belief In God quotes by Robert Alexander Crookston Laidlaw
It is rather ironical that in the sixteenth century some people resisted advances in science because they seemed to threaten belief in God; whereas in the twentieth century scientific ideas of a beginning have been resisted because they threatened to increase the plausibility of belief in God. ~ John C. Lennox
Belief In God quotes by John C. Lennox
The Bible presents God as above, beyond, and outside the experiences of mortal man. His thoughts are higher than our thoughts, and His ways are past finding out. God cannot be known by human intellect or reason, except through the new birth. Belief in God is not the product of seeing and knowing, but seeing and knowing are the products of believing.
Truth is revealed by God through the Scriptures-the Holy Bible. Truth is what the Bible declares, and not what the masses believe or what is the consensus. Reason, science, experience have nothing to do with truth. The test of truth is "thus saith the Lord. ~ Roger McIntyre
Belief In God quotes by Roger McIntyre
I think the demon's target is not the possessed; it is us ... the observers ... every person in this house. And I think - I think the point is to make us despair; to reject our own humanity, Damien: to see ourselves as ultimately bestial, vile and putrescent; without dignity; ugly; unworthy. And there lies the heart of it, perhaps: in unworthiness. For I think belief in God is not a matter of reason at all; I think it finally is a matter of love: of accepting the possibility that God could ever love us. ~ William Peter Blatty
Belief In God quotes by William Peter Blatty
Either belief in God is unconditional or it is no belief at all. ~ Viktor E. Frankl
Belief In God quotes by Viktor E. Frankl
Speaking to a 'non-theist', 'How do you what you don't believe in if you have never read the Bible?'". ~ Belle From Kentucky
Belief In God quotes by Belle From Kentucky
We believed in God, trusted in man, and lived with the illusion that every one of us has been entrusted with a sacred spark. ~ Elie Wiesel
Belief In God quotes by Elie Wiesel
While an ever-increasing number of people consider themselves agnostic, the great majority of these people live as if they are atheists, bereft of all the magnificent life-enhancing benefits a God-centered life provides. These individuals are agnostics intellectually, but atheists behaviorally. Such people need to make a choice: Will I live as if there is a God or as if there is no God? You can be an agnostic intellectually, but you cannot live as an agnostic; you live as either a believer or as an atheist. You live either as if life is random chance or as if it is infused with ultimate meaning. Moses chose to look carefully and see a miracle in that burning bush. If we look carefully, we, too, will see a miracle - in everything. ~ Dennis Prager
Belief In God quotes by Dennis Prager
I am not talking about spirituality, belief in God, or karma, but in my opinion those who can stand alone without the need for organised religion, are stronger than those who cannot. ~ Robert Black
Belief In God quotes by Robert Black
[When asked about his thoughts on gods]

I think it's like a movie that was way too popular. It's a story that's been told too many times and just doesn't mean anything. Man lived on the planet - [placing his fingers an inch apart], this is 5000 years of semi-recorded history. And God and the Bible, that came in somewhere around the middle, maybe 2000. This is the last 2000, this is what we're about to celebrate [indicating about an 1/8th of an inch with his fingers]. Now, humans, in some shape or form, have been on the earth for three million years [pointing across the room to indicate the distance]. So, all this time, from there [gesturing toward the other side of the room], to here [indicating the 1/8th of an inch], there was no God, there was no story, there was no myth and people lived on this planet and they wandered and they gathered and they did all these things. The planet was never threatened. How did they survive for all this time without this belief in God? I'd like to ask this to someone who knows about Christianity and maybe you do. That just seems funny to me. ~ Eddie Vedder
Belief In God quotes by Eddie Vedder
Professing to believe has, sadly, played a large role in the practice of religion. It has profoundly stained our understanding of what religion is. Some people seem to profess belief in God "just in case" there is a God. But they neither are committed to nor believe in the idea that God exists. ~ Dallas Willard
Belief In God quotes by Dallas Willard
This last year ... I learned something about family. Like it's not about blood alone. It's being connected ... it's growing up together and loving each other. It's believing in the same God and knowing you'd do anything for the person across from you at dinner. ~ Karen Kingsbury
Belief In God quotes by Karen Kingsbury
The idea that everything would happen exactly as it does regardless of whether we pray or not is a specter that haunts the minds of many who sincerely profess belief in God. It makes prayer psychologically impossible, replacing it with dead ritual at best. ~ David Brainerd
Belief In God quotes by David Brainerd
Religion has the same relation to man's heavenly condition that mathematics has to his earthly one: both the one and the other are merely the rules of the game. Belief in God and belief in numbers: local truth and truth of location. ~ Vladimir Nabokov
Belief In God quotes by Vladimir Nabokov
This is not a book about whether one can be good without God, because that question does not need to be answered
it needs to be rejected outright. To suggest that one can't be good without belief in God is not just an opinion, a mere curious musing
it is a prejudice. ~ Greg M. Epstein
Belief In God quotes by Greg M. Epstein
A disbelief in God does not result in a belief in nothing; disbelief in God usuallyresults in a belief in anything. ~ Arthur Lynch
Belief In God quotes by Arthur Lynch
Belief in God? An afterlife? I believe in rock: this apodictic rock beneath my feet. ~ Edward Abbey
Belief In God quotes by Edward Abbey
Faith is not the belief that everything will be all right tomorrow, but the belief that I possess the strength to make everything all right today. ~ Charles F. Glassman
Belief In God quotes by Charles F. Glassman
God's image is more than flesh and bones. ~ Charles F. Glassman
Belief In God quotes by Charles F. Glassman
If there were no belief in god, if such a truth were ever realized, then their would be no fear of consequence. Stop for a moment and imagine what this world would be like without consequence and fear. Imagine what we could, what we would do. I dare not think of such a nightmare for it could only be born in pain. ~ Eddie Russo
Belief In God quotes by Eddie Russo
To begin with, he was struck by the idea that the comprehension of divine truths is not given to man as an individual but to the totality of men united by love--the church. He was particularly pleased by the thought that it was much easier to believe in an existing, living church embracing all the beliefs of men and having God as its head and, therefore, holy and infallible, and from it to accept belief in God, the creation, the fall and redemption, than to begin with some distant mysterious God, the creation, etc. But on reading afterward the history of the church by a Catholic writer and another by a Greek Orthodox writer and seeing that the two churches, both in their essence infallible, each repudiated the other, he became disappointed also in Khomyakov's doctrine of the church, and that edifice, too, crumbled into dust as the philosophers' edifices had done. ~ Leo Tolstoy
Belief In God quotes by Leo Tolstoy
We can give up belief in God while not losing touch with a treasured heritage. ~ Richard Dawkins
Belief In God quotes by Richard Dawkins
Can an atheist practice yoga? Can an agnostic sit in meditation? Absolutely! Belief in God is not a requirement for practice. The only requirement for practice is the willingness to accept that you are not God. To surrender to
the possibility that while an all-knowing God may not govern the universe, neither do you. ~ Darren Main
Belief In God quotes by Darren Main
I go through the same problems all young people go through. Being in this business, I accept that there are positives and negatives but having a strong family base and a belief in God enables me to weather the storms. ~ Aaliyah
Belief In God quotes by Aaliyah
The knowledge of God, the belief in God, is what I call an a-rational process. It's not rational - it doesn't proceed by scientific investigation - but it's not irrational because it doesn't contradict my reasoning process. It goes beyond it. ~ George Coyne
Belief In God quotes by George Coyne
Maybe we shouldn't begin to stop believing in God when He starts to let go of our hand; because at that moment He begins to let go of your hand, that's the moment He's begun to believe in YOU! He says, "I believe in you, I know you can." And that's not the time to stop believing in someone, when He is believing in you. A good father knows when to let go and start believing that you can. We may not understand it at first, but after we look at ourselves and say "Wow, I'm awesome, I did that all by myself." Then we say "Thanks, dad. If you never let go of me, I would have never learned how to fly. ~ C. JoyBell C.
Belief In God quotes by C. JoyBell C.
Even today I am not ashamed to say that, overpowered by stormy enthusiasm, I fell down on my knees and thanked Heaven from an overflowing heart for granting me the good fortune of being permitted to live at this time. ~ Adolf Hitler
Belief In God quotes by Adolf Hitler
People whom live in a world dominated by science and technology are losing belief in God and turning away from religion. Science eliminated the traditions that formerly made living an art form including the rain celebration of spring and traditional harvest festivals. ~ Kilroy J. Oldster
Belief In God quotes by Kilroy J. Oldster
The bottom line is not money but some sort of demonic compulsion that drives these people to lash out against Jesus Christ, against Christians, and against anyone who holds to a sincere belief in God, in spite of the fact that it is going to cost them tens of millions of dollars to do it. They are driven to 'make a statement' regardless of the consequences. ~ Michael Medved
Belief In God quotes by Michael Medved
My beliefs are the center of my being. ~ Lailah Gifty Akita
Belief In God quotes by Lailah Gifty Akita
It wasn't belief in God, but belief in tradition, heritage and continuity that motivated me. Within my lifetime, six million Jews had died because of their religion and I too had been destined for death. It was a sacred trust to carry the flame forward to the next generation. ~ Diane Armstrong
Belief In God quotes by Diane Armstrong
The Holy Prophet Mohammed came into this world and taught us: 'That man is a Muslim who never hurts anyone by word or deed, but who works for the benefit and happiness of God's creatures. Belief in God is to love one's fellow men.' ~ Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan
Belief In God quotes by Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan
I was born in a time when most young people had lost their belief in God for much the same reason that their elders had kept theirs - without knowing why. ~ Fernando Pessoa
Belief In God quotes by Fernando Pessoa
Both religion and natural science require a belief in God for their activities, to the former He is the starting point, and to the latter the goal of every thought process. To the former He is the foundation, to the latter, the crown of the edifice of every generalized world view. ~ Max Planck
Belief In God quotes by Max Planck
And I don't think that government has a role in telling people how to live their lives. Maybe a minister does, maybe your belief in God does, maybe there's another set of moral codes, but I don't think government has a role. ~ Clarence Thomas
Belief In God quotes by Clarence Thomas
Belief in God meant belief in the old tribal idol called Jehovah; and I would not pretend I did not know whether it existed or not. ~ George Bernard Shaw
Belief In God quotes by George Bernard Shaw
I need you, Desari. I was empty without you. And that kind of emptiness eats away at you, consumes you until your soul is dark and ugly and all that matters is sating your hunger. But nothing fills the void.Nothing. Year after year you endure the emptiness until life itself is a curse hardly to be borne. And all the while the darkness, the beast in you whispers, an insidious whisper promising power from the kill, promises that wear away your belief in God,in all the things that are right and true and good. The monster inside you,so black and hungry for life, grows and grows until it has consumed everything you ever were. That is the curse born by Carpathian males, Desari. ~ Christine Feehan
Belief In God quotes by Christine Feehan
But if out of smugness, or even cowardice, this battle is not fought to its end, then take a look at the peoples five hundred years from now. I think you will find but few images of God, unless you want to profane the Almighty. ~ Adolf Hitler
Belief In God quotes by Adolf Hitler
People of the West have various forms of democracy based on a belief in God as well as on a general acceptance of moral law. However, in practice we are beginning to resemble the Marxists, who have little respect for moral law or religion. ~ Billy Graham
Belief In God quotes by Billy Graham
We are all born with a belief in God. It may not have a name or face. We may not even see it as God. But it is there. It is the sense that comes over us as we stare into the starlit sky, or watch the last fiery rays of an evening sunset. It is the morning shiver as we wake on a beautiful day and smell a richness in the air that we know and love from somewhere we can't quite recall. It is the mystery behind the beginning of time and beyond the limits of space. It is a sense of otherness that brings alive something deep in our hearts. ~ Kent Nerburn
Belief In God quotes by Kent Nerburn
By the age of fifteen, I had convinced myself that nobody could give a reasonable explanation of what he meant by the word 'God' and that it was therefore as meaningless to assert a belief as to assert a disbelief in God. Though this, in a general way, has remained my position ever since, I have always avoided unnecessarily to offend other people holding religious belief by displaying my lack of such belief, or even stating my lack of belief, if I was not challenged. ~ Friedrich August Von Hayek
Belief In God quotes by Friedrich August Von Hayek
What really moves people to believe in God is not any intellectual argument at all. Most people believe in God because they have been taught from early infancy to do it, and that is the main reason.
Then I think that the next most powerful reason is the wish for safety, a sort of feeling that there is a big brother who will look after you. That plays a very profound part in influencing people's desire for a belief in God. ~ Bertrand Russell
Belief In God quotes by Bertrand Russell
The only fully consistent alternative to belief in God, properly understood, is some version of "materialism" or "physicalism" or (to use the term most widely preferred at present) "naturalism"; and naturalism - the doctrine that there is nothing apart from the physical order, and certainly nothing supernatural - is an incorrigibly incoherent concept, and one that is ultimately indistinguishable from pure magical thinking. ~ David Bentley Hart
Belief In God quotes by David Bentley Hart
Nothing whatsoever, not even the existence of God to His lovers, can be proved, but that every man, if he is to live at all finely, must deliberately adopt certain assertions as true, and those assertions should, for the sake of the enrichment of the human race, always be creative ones. He may, as life goes on, modify his beliefs, but he must never modify them on the side of destruction. It may be difficult, in the face of the problem of human suffering, to believe in God ... but if you destroy God you do not solve your problem but merely leave yourself alone with it ... A ghastly loneliness. ~ Elizabeth Goudge
Belief In God quotes by Elizabeth Goudge
Belief in God and a future life makes it possible to go through life with less of stoic courage than is needed by skeptics. ~ Bertrand Russell
Belief In God quotes by Bertrand Russell
Divinely wise souls often infuriate the worldly-wise because they always see things from the Divine point of view. The worldly are willing to let anyone believe in God if he pleases, but only on condition that a belief in God will mean no more than belief in anything else. They will allow God, provided that God does not matter. But taking God seriously is precisely what makes the saint. As St. Teresa put it, "What is not God to me is nothing." This passion is called snobbish, intolerant, stupid, and unwarranted intrusion; yet those who resent it deeply wish in their own hearts that they had the saint's inner peace and happiness. ~ Fulton J. Sheen
Belief In God quotes by Fulton J. Sheen
If you look up 'atheism' in the dictionary, you will probably find it defined as the belief that there is no God. Certainly many people understand atheism in this way. Yet many atheists do not, and this is not what the term means if one considers it from the point of view of its Greek roots. In Greek 'a' means 'without' or 'not' and 'theos' means 'god.' From this standpoint an atheist would simply be someone without a belief in God, not necessarily someone who believes that God does not exist. According to its Greek roots, then, atheism is a negative view, characterized by the absence of belief in God. ~ Michael Martin
Belief In God quotes by Michael Martin
Because God is reflected in the world in which me made, in some sense, my scientific investigation has always supported my belief in God in a very real sense. It helps me to pray better. ~ George Coyne
Belief In God quotes by George Coyne
Faith is blind, if you don't open your eyes to see the blessings. ~ Charles F. Glassman
Belief In God quotes by Charles F. Glassman
James was one of those atheists God must love the most, much more than those of us who were believers, since it is their insistence on fairness and their sensitivity to suffering that make their minds closest to the mercy found in God's mind, but also made them reject any belief in God. ~ Rebecca Lee
Belief In God quotes by Rebecca Lee
When the theory of evolution destroyed the picture of God as the supreme Creator, confidence in God as the all-powerful Father of man fell with it, although many were able to combine a belief in God with the acceptance of the Darwinian theory. ~ Erich Fromm
Belief In God quotes by Erich Fromm
I don't care if religious people consider me amoral because I lack their beliefs in God. I do however care deeply about efforts to turn religious beliefs into law and those efforts benefit greatly from the conviction that individually and collectively we cannot be good without God. ~ Wendy Kaminer
Belief In God quotes by Wendy Kaminer
Scientists are dedicated to asking questions in the search for truth. But they too are human, and like all humans, they would like their answers to be clean and clear and easy. In their desire for simple solutions, scientists are prone to fall into two traps as they question the reality of God. The first is to throw the baby out with the bath water. And the second is tunnel vision. There is clearly a lot of dirty bath water surrounding the reality of God. Holy wars. Inquisitions. Animal sacrifice. Human sacrifice. Superstition. Stultification. Dogmatism. Ignorance. Hypocrisy. Self-righteousness. Rigidity. Cruelty. Book-burning. Witch-burning. Inhibition. Fear. Conformity. Morbid guilt. Insanity. The list is almost endless. But is all this what God has done to humans or what humans have done to God? It is abundantly evident that belief in God is often destructively dogmatic. Is the problem, then, that humans tend to believe in God, or is the problem that humans tend to be dogmatic? ~ M. Scott Peck
Belief In God quotes by M. Scott Peck
For by either eliminating mention of God from the curriculum altogether (departments of religious studies concern themselves with various types of belief in God, not with God), or by restricting reference to God to departments of theology, such universities render their secular curriculum Godless. And this Godlessness is, as I already noted, not just a matter of the subtraction of God from the range of objects studied, but also and quite as much the absence of any integrated and overall view of things. ~ Alasdair MacIntyre
Belief In God quotes by Alasdair MacIntyre
I believe with all my heart that one cannot be America's president without a belief in God, without the strength that your faith gives you. ~ George H. W. Bush
Belief In God quotes by George H. W. Bush
The belief in God, is not a matter of common sense or logic or argument, but of feeling. it is as impossible to prove the existence of God as to disprove it. I do not believe in God. I see no need of such an idea . ~ W. Somerset Maugham
Belief In God quotes by W. Somerset Maugham
As soon as Russians feel the ground under their feet and are confident that they have reached firm ground, they are so delighted at reaching it that they rush at once to the furthest limit. Why is that? You are surprised at Pavlishtchev, and you put it down to madness on his part, or to simplicity. But it's not that! And Russian intensity in such cases is a surprise not to us only but to all Europe. If one of us turns Catholic, he is bound to become a Jesuit, and one of the most underground. If he becomes an atheist, he's sure to clamour for the extirpation of belief in God by force, that is, by the sword. ~ Fyodor Dostoyevsky
Belief In God quotes by Fyodor Dostoyevsky
She stood and tried hard not to believe in God. It seemed mean and petty to have more belief in God when things were going well than when they were instinct with tragedy; just as it seemed mean and petty to pray to God when you wanted something badly, and not pray when you didn't. But after all God was Eternal Mind that you couldn't understand; God was not a loving Father that you could. The less she thought about all that the better. ~ John Galsworthy
Belief In God quotes by John Galsworthy
Eid is a time of joy, after a season of fasting and prayer and reflection. Each year, the end of Ramadan means celebration and thanksgiving for millions of Americans. And your joy during this season enriches the life of our great country. This year, Eid is celebrated at the same time as Hanukkah and Advent. So it's a good time for people of these great faiths, Islam, Judaism and Christianity, to remember how much we have in common: devotion to family, a commitment to care for those in need, a belief in God and His justice, and the hope for peace on earth. ~ George W. Bush
Belief In God quotes by George W. Bush
I get the concept, all right
like, why would God make me gay and then tell me it's a sin to be gay? But the freethinkers were confusing me. ' I don't get it. They have no religion, but they sort of believe in God, but they don't believe in faith? ~ Robin Reardon
Belief In God quotes by Robin Reardon
But there are not a few who would be indignant at having their belief in God questioned, who yet seem greatly to fear imagining Him better than He is. ~ George MacDonald
Belief In God quotes by George MacDonald
The only valid faith today is disbelief. ~ J.S.B. Morse
Belief In God quotes by J.S.B. Morse
Don't forget the laws of God. ~ Lailah Gifty Akita
Belief In God quotes by Lailah Gifty Akita
the change I want to define and trace is one which takes us from a society in which it was virtually impossible not to believe in God, to one in which faith, even for the staunchest believer, is one human possibility among others. I may find it inconceivable that I would abandon my faith, but there are others, including possibly some very close to me, whose way of living I cannot in all honesty just dismiss as depraved, or blind, or unworthy, who have no faith (at least not in God, or the transcendent). Belief in God is no longer axiomatic. There are alternatives. And this will also likely mean that at least in certain milieux, it may be hard to sustain one's faith. ~ Charles Taylor
Belief In God quotes by Charles Taylor
I'm as religious as the next man - which is to say I'll keep in with the local parson for form's sake and read the lessons on feast-days because my tenants expect it, but I've never been fool enough to confuse religion with belief in God. That's where so many clergymen ... go wrong ~ George MacDonald Fraser
Belief In God quotes by George MacDonald Fraser
In the periods of my life when I've had least contact with the Church, I've always assumed a belief in God is a solid thing, but clearly it's a relationship; it has good days and bad days. ~ Tom Hollander
Belief In God quotes by Tom Hollander
If someone believes in god, is he a liar? He never saw god or any proof or evidence of god. He only heard about god. ~ Debasish Mridha
Belief In God quotes by Debasish Mridha
Nothing, absolutely nothing, has a more direct bearing on the moral choices made by individuals or the purposes pursued by society than belief or disbelief in God. ~ Ravi Zacharias
Belief In God quotes by Ravi Zacharias
As I look around on Sunday morning at the people populating the pews, I see the risk that God has assumed. For whatever reason, God now reveals himself in the world not through a pillar of smoke and fire, not even through the physical body of his Son in Galilee, but through the mongrel collection that comprises my local church and every other such gathering in God's name. (p. 68, Church: Why Bother?) ~ Philip Yancey
Belief In God quotes by Philip Yancey
Don't worry, my son, if you don't believe in Maribor and the blessings He provides. Belief in Him isn't a requirement. It doesn't stop Him from believing in you. (capital H's added for reverence) ~ Michael J. Sullivan
Belief In God quotes by Michael J. Sullivan
Thus inwardly armed with confidence in God and the unshakable stupidity of the voting citizenry, the politicians can begin the fight for the 'remaking' of the Reich as they call it. ~ Adolf Hitler
Belief In God quotes by Adolf Hitler
Perhaps the belief in God is the belief that the universe is intelligible, but not to us. ~ Thomas Nagel
Belief In God quotes by Thomas Nagel
Surveying American scientists as a whole, Pew Research showed that 33 percent admitted belief in God, while 41 percent were atheists (the rest either didn't answer, didn't know, or believed in a "universal spirit or higher power"). In contrast, belief in God among the general public ran at 83 percent and atheism at only 4 percent. In other words, scientists are ten times more likely to be atheists than are other Americans. This disparity has persisted for over eighty years of polling. ~ Jerry A. Coyne
Belief In God quotes by Jerry A. Coyne
It is of the very nature of partial seeing that we cannot see all the reconciliation of the parts we see, because it is only in the whole that they are one, and we do not see the whole. The word we form cannot wholly express God: only the Word He generates can do that. To be irked at this necessary darkness is as though we were irked at not being God. ~ Frank Sheed
Belief In God quotes by Frank Sheed
Apologetics is reason flying to the rescue of faith ~ Bangambiki Habyarimana
Belief In God quotes by Bangambiki Habyarimana
I think through education, belief in God, and good engineering, our children become a lot better at what they're doing than we did, and that starts with the very first sign of life on the face of this earth. ~ Evel Knievel
Belief In God quotes by Evel Knievel
I don't see why any president has to talk about his belief in God. ~ Susan Jacoby
Belief In God quotes by Susan Jacoby
If we require some kind of sign, or "proof," for our belief in God, then we believe, or place our tust, not in God but in the sign or proof. ~ Robert L. Short
Belief In God quotes by Robert L. Short
Belief in God is apparently a psychological arti-fact of mammalian reproduction. ~ Arthur C. Clarke
Belief In God quotes by Arthur C. Clarke
My Promise lives within each of you for you are the hope of all who seek light from within the darkness. No matter the misery of those who have given themselves over to evil, the fate of each man in his own hands: divergence from the path of Righteousness comes in many forms but the price of my eternal Peace is paid in compassion and humility. It is upon your Faith that wickedness will be vanquished, and suffering expelled eternally into the depths of the Pit so that all who seek it may dwell eternally in my House. Despair not of what is to come for your place is forever at my table. ~ Nicholas DeAntonio
Belief In God quotes by Nicholas DeAntonio
Everybody dies. There's nothing you can do about it. Whether or not you eat six almonds a day. Whether or not you believe in God. (Although there's no question a belief in God would come in handy. It would be great to think there's a plan, and that everything happens for a reason. I don't happen to believe that. And every time one of my friends says to me, "Everything happens for a reason," I would like to smack her.) ~ Nora Ephron
Belief In God quotes by Nora Ephron
I profess no belief in God, which by definition is true, especially if we take the accepted definition of God. But to be an atheist is to also have a belief, and have a system, and I don't know that I like that either. ~ George Carlin
Belief In God quotes by George Carlin
It is no coincidence that the Western attraction to sublime landscapes developed at precisely the moment when traditional beliefs in God began to wane. ~ Alain De Botton
Belief In God quotes by Alain De Botton
As G. K. Chesterton is credited with saying, The opposite of a belief in God is not a belief in nothing; it is a belief in anything. ~ David Jeremiah
Belief In God quotes by David Jeremiah
Given belief in God, a good digestion and a mind in working order life's still a thing to be grateful for. ~ Elizabeth Goudge
Belief In God quotes by Elizabeth Goudge
So much confusion about belief in God, morality, and science arises, not from what people say they believe, but rather from mistaken assumptions about God, morality, and science that they don't know they believe. In Three Theological Mistakes, Ric Machuga, with clarity and grace, explains the genesis of these mistakes and provides the intellectual tools by which we can recover from them. ~ Francis J. Beckwith
Belief In God quotes by Francis J. Beckwith
Nothing you've been through has been wasted. I know at times you feel you've wasted time, moments, and years over what you can't regain again - a job, a marriage, a relationship, your health, the sacrifices, your time and service, and giving up something you love for God, that broke your heart. You sit back and wonder, "Will I ever be happy again? Was everything I've been through worth the pain, the tears, the sleepless nights, the embarrassment." The Lord is saying, "It's just preparation." Where you are now is no accident.

What has happened to you didn't take God by surprise. He already initiated a plan of escape before you were formed; mistakes, setbacks, disappointments, things outside your control.. The plan was already made! I don't know your story but only you and God know your story. He took you from bad company, He took you from suicide, He took you when you were at your lowest, He took you when nobody wanted you, He took you when your money was low, Why? Because He saw potential in you!

As God as my witness it gets lonely at times. Life can be fearful when you don't know what to expect. When you feel everything has been stripped away...When you feel there's no hope... When you wonder how much longer do I have to wait. Who wants to feel rejection or disappointments.. But it's in those moments when we experience the faithfulness of God!

I want to encourage whoever I'm speaking to, to hold on! Before Joseph became Prime Minist ~ Susan Samaroo

'Hard Hit,' a YA collection of poems, explores the country of grief and survival. Mark, a 16-year-old boy and skilled pitcher, must confront the coming death of his beloved father with the help of his friends, family, baseball, and an idiosyncratic belief in God. I used my own experience of my parents' deaths to inform this journey. ~ Ann Turner
