True and sound wisdom consists of two parts: the knowledge of God and of ourselves. ~ John Calvin
Knowledge Of God quotes by John Calvin
The story of the Good Samaritan (Luke 1o) can he interpreted mystically in such a way that the question of the knowledge of God becomes its focus. The priest and the Levite, who walk past the man who fell among robbers and was seriously hurt, are pious God-fearing persons. They "know" God and the law of God. They have God the same way that the one who knows has that which is known. They know what God wants them to be and do. They also know where God is to he found, in the scriptures and the cult of the temple. For them, God is mediated through the existing institutions. They have their God - one who is not to he found on the road between Jerusalem and Jericho.

What is wrong with this knowledge of God? The problem is not the knowledge of the Torah or the knowledge of the temple. (It is absurd to read an anti-Judaistic meaning into a story of the Jew Jesus, since it could just as well have come from Hillel or another Jewish teacher.) What is false is a knowledge of God that does not allow for any unknowing or any negative theology. Because both actors know that God is "this," they do not see "that." Hence the Good Samaritan is the anti-fundamentalist story par excellence.

"And so I ask God to rid me of God," Meister Eckhart says. The God who is known and familiar is too small for him. ~ Dorothee Solle
Knowledge Of God quotes by Dorothee Solle
In a very real sense my science does inform my knowledge of God. If you would allow me to say that we never know God, because if I claim that I know God, I know something other than God, because God is not knowable, he is unknowable. So we have to approach it in that sense first, that my knowledge of God is always limited. ~ George Coyne
Knowledge Of God quotes by George Coyne
The doctrine of justification by faith - a Biblical truth, and a blessed relief from sterile legalism and unavailing self-effort - has in our time fallen into evil company and been interpreted by many in such manner as actually to bar men from the knowledge of God. The whole transaction of religious conversion has been made mechanical and spiritless. Faith may now be exercised without a jar to the moral life and without embarrassment to the Adamic ego. Christ may be "received" without creating any special love for Him in the soul of the receiver. The man is "saved," but he is not hungry nor thirsty after God. In fact he is specifically taught to be satisfied and encouraged to be content with little. ~ A.W. Tozer
Knowledge Of God quotes by A.W. Tozer
Now we shall possess a right definition of faith if we call it a firm and certain knowledge of God's benevolence toward us, founded upon the truth of the freely given promise in Christ, both revealed to our minds and sealed upon our hearts through the Holy Spirit. ~ John Calvin
Knowledge Of God quotes by John Calvin
Men seized of the urge to have a knowledge of God and to be pure in mind devote all their gathered energies to this one task. While they still live in the corruption of the flesh they give themselves to that service in which they will persevere when the corruption has been laid aside. And already they come in sight of what the Lord and Savior held out when He said, 'Blessed are the clean of heart, for they will see God' (Mt. 5:8). ~ John Cassian
Knowledge Of God quotes by John Cassian
Too many Christians are fighting graduate school sins with a grammar school knowledge of God. ~ John Piper
Knowledge Of God quotes by John Piper
The happiest pillow on which you may rest your head is the knowledge of God's will. I cannot imagine a more miserable situation than consciously to be out of God's will. ~ R.T. Kendall
Knowledge Of God quotes by R.T. Kendall
The Holy Scripture is the only sufficient, certain, and infallible rule of all saving knowledge, faith, and obedience, although the light of nature, and the works of creation and providence do so far manifest the goodness, wisdom, and power of God, as to leave men inexcusable; yet are they not sufficient to give that knowledge of God and his will which is necessary unto salvation. ~ Various
Knowledge Of God quotes by Various
The principal prayer and aim of Christians should be that we "walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God" (Col 1:10). ~ Arthur W. Pink
Knowledge Of God quotes by Arthur W. Pink
The knowledge of God gives a person the opportunity to not be a slave to wealth. ~ Sunday Adelaja
Knowledge Of God quotes by Sunday Adelaja
I want to know, sir-when shall I find God?" "You have found Him." "O no, sir, I don't think so!" My guru was smiling. "I am sure you aren't expecting a venerable Personage, adorning a throne in some antiseptic corner of the cosmos! I see, however, that you are imagining that the possession of miraculous powers is knowledge of God. One might have the whole universe, and find the Lord elusive still! Spiritual advancement is not measured by one's outward powers, but only by the depth of his bliss in meditation. ~ Paramahansa Yogananda
Knowledge Of God quotes by Paramahansa Yogananda
For truly barren is profane education, which is always in labor but never gives birth. For what fruit worthy of such pangs does philosophy show for being so long in labor? Do not all who are full of wind and never come to term miscarry before they come to the light of the knowledge of God, although they could as well become men if they were not altogether hidden in the womb of barren wisdom? ~ Gregory Of Nyssa
Knowledge Of God quotes by Gregory Of Nyssa
The knowledge of God is beginning of wisdom. ~ Lailah Gifty Akita
Knowledge Of God quotes by Lailah Gifty Akita
Let us not satisfy ourselves with a knowledge of God in the mass; a glance upon a picture never directs you to the discerning the worth and art of it. ~ Stephen Charnock
Knowledge Of God quotes by Stephen Charnock
The initial step for us all to come to knowledge of God is contemplation of nature. ~ Irenaeus Of Lyons
Knowledge Of God quotes by Irenaeus Of Lyons
The sum total of all possible knowledge of God is not possible for a human being, not even through a true revelation. But it is one of the worthiest inquiries to see how far our reason can go in the knowledge of God. ~ Immanuel Kant
Knowledge Of God quotes by Immanuel Kant
Was there ever a more horrible blasphemy than the statement that all the knowledge of God is confined to this or that book? How dare men call God infinite, and yet try to compress Him within the covers of a little book! ~ Swami Vivekananda
Knowledge Of God quotes by Swami Vivekananda
The Word of God gives birth to thoughts about God and about the knowledge of God. ~ Sunday Adelaja
Knowledge Of God quotes by Sunday Adelaja
Everything he wrote aims at awakening others to the contemplative dimension in themselves. His contemplative theology-as well as his entire theological "system"-emphasizes the ultimate value of the experiential approach to the Divine Reality. To this end, he encouraged a rigorous sauJhaaaa-, or spiritual practice. This practice includes meditation (dbyiuia) and asceticism (tapas), and Father Bede practiced both with extreme assiduousness as the way to come to mystical realization and identification with the Absolute, to have knowledge of God (brahmavidya), which is like the &iosis of the Christian tradition or jnana in the contemplative way. ~ Wayne Teasdale
Knowledge Of God quotes by Wayne Teasdale
From Lee's extensive quotes of Edwards on page 152 we can gather that the reason some reject good thoughts that might order their minds aright is because of a disposition of the heart, or a "taste" for evil. The habit of a person's mind is in accordance with his spiritual appetite, a good man's mind will always suggest and supply good and holy thoughts to connect ideas and information to create a beautiful picture in one's mind of God's orderly universe (Himself at the helm) but the evil man's mind is habitually disorganizing the things of this world or rather dis-integrating them from the knowledge of God, and so Edwards might say that his mind is not a cosmos but a chaos, or a conductor-less cacophony rather than a grand symphony. ~ Erick John Blore
Knowledge Of God quotes by Erick John Blore
As we grow in the knowledge of God's holiness, even though we are growing in the practice of holiness, it seems the gap between our knowledge and our practice always gets wider. This is the Holy Spirit's way of drawing us to more and more holiness. ~ Jerry Bridges
Knowledge Of God quotes by Jerry Bridges
A man may be a Bah' in name only. If he is a Bah' in reality, his deeds and actions will be decisive proofs of it. What are the requirements? Love for mankind, sincerity toward all, reflecting the oneness of the world of humanity, philanthropy, becoming enkindled with the fire of the love of God, attainment to the knowledge of God and that which is conducive to human welfare. ~ Abdu'l- Baha
Knowledge Of God quotes by Abdu'l- Baha
This is what all the work of grace aims at - an ever deeper knowledge of God, and an ever closer fellowship with him. Grace is God drawing us sinners closer and closer to himself. ~ J.I. Packer
Knowledge Of God quotes by J.I. Packer
We lost the knowledge of God," he went on to say, "at the moment when we transformed the Ecclesia from experience into theology, from a living reality into moralistic principles, good values, and high ideals. When that happened," Father Maximos said humorously, "we became like tin cans with nothing inside. ~ Kyriacos C. Markides
Knowledge Of God quotes by Kyriacos C. Markides
The true knowledge of God is not only to know him as the maker of the world, but also to be persuaded that the world is directed by him, and further to know the nature of that direction. He ~ John Calvin
Knowledge Of God quotes by John Calvin
To our three levels of complicating alienation we must add the fundamental distinction or break between God and humankind, between Creator and creature. That "division" is no tragedy, but part and parcel of our identity and God's grandeur. It must be accounted for in the mystery of God, who reveals himself to us as we can bear it: revelation invariably involves concealment, since God is God and we are not. The communion that he forges with us remains a tantalizing "mystery" that leads us to know more and more of him, but never in completion - and at this, we wonder! As Kallistos Ware puts it, where knowledge of God is concerned, "The eyes are closed - but they are also opened" (The Orthodox Way, p. 15). ~ Edith M. Humphrey
Knowledge Of God quotes by Edith M. Humphrey
The better (i.e., the more accurately) we know God through his Word, the more genuine our worship will be. In fact, the moment we veer from what is true about God, we're engaging in idolatry. Regardless of what we think or feel, there is no authentic worship of God without a right knowledge of God. ~ Bob Kauflin
Knowledge Of God quotes by Bob Kauflin
If the fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, why would we ask those who do not fear the Lord to teach our children? ~ Douglas W. Phillips
Knowledge Of God quotes by Douglas W. Phillips
Since it is impossible, without God, to come to knowledge of God, he teaches men through his Word to know God. ~ Irenaeus Of Lyons
Knowledge Of God quotes by Irenaeus Of Lyons
Mankind's most dangerous enemy is the human imagination. What their minds can imagine is far more malicious than the deepest furnaces of their chimerical Hell. They imagined an invisible god to corrupt their thoughts with everlasting fantasies and eternal lies. When the human species invented God the darkness of imagination was present. Mankind imagined an unseen creator to form their bodies and then to reform them indestructible upon death. The mortal truth became the immortal delusion. They possessed no knowledge of God so they invented him. Where human knowledge ends the imagined God begins. ~ C.J. Anderson
Knowledge Of God quotes by C.J. Anderson
It was not until I began meeting people of other faiths in their most sacred spaces that I learned how bruised some of them were by Christian evangelism. Worshippers at the Hindu Temple returned to the parking lot after one of their major festivals to find Christians by their cars with pamphlets demeaning their holiday. Muslims were used to Christians saying malicious things about the Qur'an. Native Americans were tired of being asked what God they prayed to. The shared consensus is that Christian evangelists are not very good listeners. They assume they are speaking to people with no knowledge of God themselves. They are disrespectful to other people's faith. ~ Barbara Brown Taylor
Knowledge Of God quotes by Barbara Brown Taylor
The knowledge of God, the belief in God, is what I call an a-rational process. It's not rational - it doesn't proceed by scientific investigation - but it's not irrational because it doesn't contradict my reasoning process. It goes beyond it. ~ George Coyne
Knowledge Of God quotes by George Coyne
Great are those two gifts, wisdom and continence: wisdom, forsooth, whereby we are formed in the knowledge of God; continence whereby we are not conformed to this world. ~ Saint Augustine
Knowledge Of God quotes by Saint Augustine
For it is not mere words that nourish the soul, but God Himself, and unless and until the hearers find God in personal experience they are not the better for having heard the truth. The Bible is not an end in itself, but a means to bring men to an intimate and satisfying knowledge of God, that they may enter into Him, that they may delight in His Presence, may taste and know the inner sweetness of the very God Himself in the core and center of their hearts. ~ A.W. Tozer
Knowledge Of God quotes by A.W. Tozer
we cannot have a clear and complete knowledge of God unless it is accompanied by a corresponding knowledge of ourselves. This ~ John Calvin
Knowledge Of God quotes by John Calvin
As St. Paul says, what matters isn't so much our knowledge of God as God's knowledge of us; not, as it were, the god we want but the God who wants us. God help us, we don't understand ourselves; how can we expect to understand that Self which stands beside our selves like Niagara beside a trickling tap? ~ N.T. Wright
Knowledge Of God quotes by N.T. Wright
3For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. 4The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. 5We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. ~ Anonymous
Knowledge Of God quotes by Anonymous
O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out! 34 For who hath known the mind of the Lord? or who hath been his counsellor? 35 Or who hath first given to him, and it shall be recompensed unto him again? 36 For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things: to whom be glory for ever. Amen. ~ Anonymous
Knowledge Of God quotes by Anonymous
The Christian does not avoid sin to achieve salvation, but rather salvation brings him to a desire not to sin. The closer that one's spirit is synchronized with the holy knowledge of God, the more he comprehends how and why sin is destructive to himself and others in each and every circumstance. The dwindling desire for sin is a premature gift of Heaven - where there will be no sin, where all will, too, possess that full and complete wisdom; all will have perfect reasons not to sin. In this way, free will might still exist, but the shared wisdom of God will simply outwit all desires, impulses, and needs to sin. ~ Criss Jami
Knowledge Of God quotes by Criss Jami
Idolatry, especially that of the body, is for Athanasius a kind of barometer, measuring the perversity into which humans have fallen, the degree to which their knowledge of God has been lost, and the extent to which the image of God in them obscured, the consequence of which is corruption and death. ~ Athanasius Of Alexandria
Knowledge Of God quotes by Athanasius Of Alexandria
The fall of the nation, there is no;
Faithfulness,
Kindness and
Knowledge of God in your sacred land. ~ Lailah Gifty Akita
Knowledge Of God quotes by Lailah Gifty Akita
Wouldn't it be wonderful if we had a world where everybody said, 'We don't know?' The fact is that you're surrounded -God and you don't see God, because you KNOW ABOUT God. The final barrier to the vision of God is your God concept. You miss God because you think you know. The highest knowledge of God is to know God as unknowable. All revelations, however divine, are never any more than a finger pointing at the moon. As we say in the East, 'When the sage points to the moon, all the idiot sees is the finger'. ~ Anthony De Mello
Knowledge Of God quotes by Anthony De Mello
If I have a fundamental belief that the universe is created by God, then I also come to the belief that that universe reflects God, it gives me some knowledge of Him. Obviously, therefore, the more I know of the universe is, the more enriched my limited knowledge of God is. ~ George Coyne
Knowledge Of God quotes by George Coyne
Sometimes we hear it said that ten minutes on your knees will give you a truer, deeper, more operative knowledge of God than ten hours over your books. What! Than ten hours over your books on your knees? ~ B. B. Warfield
Knowledge Of God quotes by B. B. Warfield
The greatest act of judgment that God can pour out on a people is being poured out on America, and it is this: He's taken away the knowledge of God, and He's closed the mouth of those who are supposed to be speaking for Him. So that little boys lead us with their silly little ideas and we like it that way, because we really do want our best life now. ~ Paul Washer
Knowledge Of God quotes by Paul Washer
The knowledge of God, the formation of ideas, the mastery of desire and passion, the distinction between that which is to be chosen and that which is to be rejected, all these man owes to his form ... ~ Maimonides
Knowledge Of God quotes by Maimonides
Christians can grow in the grace of Christ, with knowledge of God. ~ Lailah Gifty Akita
Knowledge Of God quotes by Lailah Gifty Akita
faith presupposes reason and perfects it, and reason, enlightened by faith, finds the strength to rise to knowledge of God and spiritual realities'.15 For Ratzinger, faith and reason, theology and philosophy, are symbiotically, and not extrinsic-ally, related. Faith without reason ends in fideism, but reason without faith ends in nihilism. ~ Tracey Rowland
Knowledge Of God quotes by Tracey Rowland
The Lord did not create suffering. Pain and death came into the world with the fall of man. But after man had chosen suffering in preference to the joys of union with God, the Lord turned suffering itself into a way by which man could come to the perfect knowledge of God. ~ Thomas Merton
Knowledge Of God quotes by Thomas Merton
It has been asserted that our century is characterized by an entirely new phenomenon: the appearance of people incapable of relating to God. As a result of spiritual and social developments, it is said, we have reached the stage where a kind of person has developed in whom there is no longer any starting point for the knowledge of God. ~ Pope Benedict XVI
Knowledge Of God quotes by Pope Benedict XVI
We find the instrument for the Knowledge of God in ourselves But we find God everywhere. ~ Rudolf Steiner
Knowledge Of God quotes by Rudolf Steiner
He who devoutly strives to attain wisdom and is on his guard against the invisible powers, should pray that both natural discrimination - whose light is but limited - and the illuminating grace of the Spirit abide in him. The first by means of practice trains the flesh in virtue, the second illuminates the intellect so that it chooses above all else companionship with wisdom; and through wisdom it destroys the strongholds of evil and pulls down 'all the self-esteem that exalts itself against the knowledge of God' (II Cor. 10:5). ~ Maximus The Confessor
Knowledge Of God quotes by Maximus The Confessor
Understanding human nature is the highest knowledge, and only by knowing it can we know God. It is also a fact that the knowledge of God is the highest knowledge, and only by knowing God can we understand human nature. ~ Swami Vivekananda
Knowledge Of God quotes by Swami Vivekananda
Until we have the right knowledge of God, the knowledge of self and our need for grace remains distorted. ~ Steven J. Lawson
Knowledge Of God quotes by Steven J. Lawson
Do we desire such knowledge of God? Then two things follow. First, we must recognize how much we lack knowledge of God. We must learn to measure ourselves, not by our knowledge about God, not by our gifts and responsibilities in the church, but by how we pray and what goes on in our hearts. ~ J.I. Packer
Knowledge Of God quotes by J.I. Packer
The work of the religion ends when the knowledge of God begins. ~ Mwanandeke Kindembo
Knowledge Of God quotes by Mwanandeke Kindembo
Jesus Christ is the access to God....Revelation is the access to the knowledge of God ~ Dr Lloyd Magangeni
Knowledge Of God quotes by Dr Lloyd Magangeni
The Nephite prophets stressed that charity is not a man-made quality in those who possess it, but an endowment of the Holy Spirit, bestowed in some measure upon those who are born into the kingdom of God and thereafter increased in man by the influence of the Holy Ghost, as he grows in grace and in the knowledge of God. ~ Hyrum L. Andrus
Knowledge Of God quotes by Hyrum L. Andrus
My final destination is my complete knowledge of God. ~ Kedar Joshi
Knowledge Of God quotes by Kedar Joshi
Our true and genuine wisdom can be summed up as the knowledge of God and the knowledge of ourselves. ~ John Calvin
Knowledge Of God quotes by John Calvin
ROMANS 11:33 Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and His ways past finding out! ~ David Jeremiah
Knowledge Of God quotes by David Jeremiah
If seek the light of knowledge of God, we know how to live. ~ Lailah Gifty Akita
Knowledge Of God quotes by Lailah Gifty Akita
A stronghold is a false premise that denies God's promise. It "sets itself up against the knowledge of God" (v. 5 NIV). It seeks to eclipse our discovery of God. It attempts to magnify the problem and minimize God's ability to solve it. Does ~ Max Lucado
Knowledge Of God quotes by Max Lucado
No man can attain to the knowledge of God but by humility. The way to mount high is to descend. ~ Giles Of Assisi
Knowledge Of God quotes by Giles Of Assisi
You sum up the whole of New Testament religion if you describe it as the knowledge of God as one's holy Father. If you want to judge how well a person understands Christianity, find out how much he makes of the thought of being God's child, and having God as his Father. If this is not the thought that prompts and controls his worship and prayers and his whole outlook on life, it means that he does not understand Christianity very well at all.

For everything that Christ taught, everything that makes the New Testament new, and better than the Old, everything that is distinctively Christian as opposed to merely Jewish, is summed up in the knowledge of the Fatherhood of God. 'Father' is the Christian name for God. Our understanding of Christianity cannot be better than our grasp of adoption. ~ J.I. Packer
Knowledge Of God quotes by J.I. Packer
We have to learn to use that force (love) among all that lives, and in the use of it consists our knowledge of God. Where there is love there is life; hatred leads to destruction. ~ Mahatma Gandhi
Knowledge Of God quotes by Mahatma Gandhi
The way to deeper knowledge of God is through the lonely valleys of soul poverty and abnegation of all things. The blessed ones who possess the Kingdom are they who have repudiated every external thing and have rooted from their hearts all sense of possessing. ~ A.W. Tozer
Knowledge Of God quotes by A.W. Tozer
The only way in which the world can be grasped ultimately lies, not in thought, but in the act, in the experience of oneness.
Thus paradoxical logic leads to the conclusion that the love of God is neither the knowledge of God in thought, nor the thought of one's love of God, but the act of experiencing the oneness with God. ~ Erich Fromm
Knowledge Of God quotes by Erich Fromm
Of all the knowledge that we can ever obtain, the knowledge of God, and the knowledge of ourselves, are the most important. ~ Jonathan Edwards
Knowledge Of God quotes by Jonathan Edwards
We can never attain a maximum love of God with only a minimum knowledge of God ~ Frank Sheed
Knowledge Of God quotes by Frank Sheed
Philosophy is nothing else than striving through constant contemplation and saintly piety to attain knowledge of God. ~ Hermes Trismegistus
Knowledge Of God quotes by Hermes Trismegistus
The Self-revealing of the Word is in every dimension - above, in creation; below, in the Incarnation; in the depth, in Hades; in the breadth, throughout the world. All things have been filled with the knowledge of God. ~ Athanasius Of Alexandria
Knowledge Of God quotes by Athanasius Of Alexandria
The prophet [ Isaiah ] ... points out what will be the cause of this change; for he says that hatred, quarrel, and fighting will come to an end, because men will have a true knowledge of God. "They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain: for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the Lord, as the waters which cover the sea" (Isa. xi. ver. 9) Note it. ~ Maimonides
Knowledge Of God quotes by Maimonides
Pure wisdom always directs itself towards God; the purest wisdom is knowledge of God. ~ Lew Wallace
Knowledge Of God quotes by Lew Wallace
Heresy arises as a pained outcry to liberate us from this strange, narrow pit, to raise us from the darkness of letters and platitudes to the light of thought and feeling. Such heresy eventually takes its stand in the centre of morality. It has a temporary legitimacy, for it must consume the filthy froth clinging to mindless faith. [...........] On the desolate ruins wrought by heresy, the sublime knowledge of God wil build her temple. ~ Daniel Chanan Matt
Knowledge Of God quotes by Daniel Chanan Matt
The essence of religion is the knowledge of God which is eternal life. That and nothing less than that is religion. Everything else is on the surface, is superfluous save for the needs of men. ~ Annie Besant
Knowledge Of God quotes by Annie Besant
If theology means knowledge of God, every woman, serious about her faith, young or old, must be a theologian, must move beyond that 'simple spirit of worship' to the 'complexities of dogma,' dogma being the principles and beliefs forming the core of biblical faith, the only reliable guides for life. ~ Rosalie De Rosset
Knowledge Of God quotes by Rosalie De Rosset
The word of God is full of sad and grave counsel, full of the knowledge of God, of examples of virtues, and of correction of vices, of the end of this life, and of the life to come. ~ John Jewel
Knowledge Of God quotes by John Jewel
Listen to yourself speak, saying, "The knowledge of God has no practical application." Do you know why all your Christian bookstores are filled up with self-help books, and five ways to do this or that, and six ways to be godly, and 10 ways not to fall? - because people don't know God! And so they have to be given all sorts of trivial little devices of the flesh to keep them walking as sheep ought to walk! "Awake to righteousness, and sin not; for some have not the knowledge of God: I speak this to your shame" (1Co 15:34). Why the rampant sinning even among God's people? It is a lack of the knowledge of God! ~ Paul David Washer
Knowledge Of God quotes by Paul David Washer
Certainly it does make the greatest possible difference what we think about God; the knowledge of God is the very basis of religion. ~ John Gresham Machen
Knowledge Of God quotes by John Gresham Machen
The knowledge of God is very far from the love of Him. ~ Blaise Pascal
Knowledge Of God quotes by Blaise Pascal
"Agnostic" is a much more recent word than "atheist", coined by Thomas Huxley in 1869 to mean "without knowledge of God" and acquiring the usage of "being doubtful about the existence of God." ~ Jim Herrick
Knowledge Of God quotes by Jim Herrick
Refuse to be content with the knowledge of God. Insist on experiencing His presence. ~ John Paul Warren
Knowledge Of God quotes by John Paul Warren
Through the indulgence of appetite and passion men would become incapable of appreciating the great truths of the plan of redemption. Yet Christ, true to the purpose for which he left heaven, would continue his interest in men, and still invite them to hide their weakness and deficiencies in him. He would supply the needs of all who would come unto him in faith. And there would ever be a few who would preserve the knowledge of God and would remain unsullied amid the prevailing iniquity. ~ Ellen G. White
Knowledge Of God quotes by Ellen G. White
It should be our chief study to treasure up the words of life that we may grow in grace and advance in the knowledge of God and become perfected in Christ Jesus, that we may receive a fullness and become heirs of God and joint heirs of Jesus Christ. [See Romans 8:16–17.]. ~ Wilford Woodruff
Knowledge Of God quotes by Wilford Woodruff
The Bible is a living Book and can be trusted for its advice and direction and knowledge of God. ~ Billy Graham
Knowledge Of God quotes by Billy Graham
All those who storm heaven like giants, without Christ's help, are deprived of any right knowledge of God. Anyone, ~ John Calvin
Knowledge Of God quotes by John Calvin
Therefore, if we would listen to the voice of God15 with due reverence, the soul must stand upright, and not lean on the affections of sense for support. As the prophet Habakkuk says of himself, "I will stand upon my watch, and fix my step upon the munition, and I will behold to see what may be said to me."16 To stand upon the watch is to cast off all desires; to fix the step, is to cease from reflections of sense, that I may behold and understand what God will speak to me. Thus out of this night springs first the knowledge of one's self, and on that, as on a foundation, is built up the knowledge of God. "Let me know myself," says St. Augustine, "and I shall then know Thee, O my God," for, as the philosophers say, one extreme is known by another. ~ San Juan De La Cruz
Knowledge Of God quotes by San Juan De La Cruz
Of all there is to know in this world, of all the mysteries and complexities of life, the knowledge of God and his ways are the most critical. ~ Joe Thorn
Knowledge Of God quotes by Joe Thorn
Hence the aim of meditation, in the context of Christian faith, is not to arrive at an objective and apparently 'scientific' knowledge of God, but to come to know him through the realization that our very being is penetrated with his knowledge and love for us. Our knowledge of God is paradoxically a knowledge not of him as the object of our scrutiny, but of ourselves as utterly dependent on his saving and merciful knowledge of us. It is in proportion as we are known to him that we find our real being and identity in Christ. We know him and through ourselves in so far as his truth is the source of our being and his merciful love is the very heart of our life and existence. We have no other reason for being, except to be loved by him as our Creator and Redeemer, and to love him in return. There is no true knowledge of God that does not imply a profound grasp and an intimate personal acceptance of this profound relationship. ~ Thomas Merton
Knowledge Of God quotes by Thomas Merton
The mystic possesses his or her knowledge of God not from books or academic study, but from experience, from the experience of being loved intimately, intensely, by God. ~ William Harmless
Knowledge Of God quotes by William Harmless
Science is a line, art a superficies, and life or the knowledge of God, a solid. ~ Coventry Patmore
Knowledge Of God quotes by Coventry Patmore
The ultimate goal of theology isn't knowledge, but worship. If our learning and knowledge of God do not lead to the joyful praise of God, we have failed. We learn only that we might laud, which is to say that theology without doxology is idolatry. The only theology worth studying is a theology that can be sung! ~ Sam Storms
Knowledge Of God quotes by Sam Storms
As the body dieth when the soul departeth, so the soul of man dieth, when it hath not the knowledge of God. ~ John Jewel
Knowledge Of God quotes by John Jewel
When the gospel does take root in the heart, the sign of it is that Christians are led to "establish their complete happiness in him." Unless people experience this, "they will never give themselves truly and sincerely to him."154 You don't have true saving knowledge of God until you long to know and serve him. Such a soul "restrains itself from sinning, not out of dread of punishment alone; but because it loves and reveres God as Father. . . . Even if there were no hell, it would still shudder at offending him. ~ Timothy Keller
Knowledge Of God quotes by Timothy Keller
The Bible is not an owner's manual containing complete do-it-yourself instructions on how to make the machine of life in relationship to God hum well. No, it is a dramatic script capturing the journeys of a number of faith communities and God-followers throughout the last several thousand years who - based on their knowledge of God, the questions they were grappling with, and the social context in which they lived - improvised on living the abundant life of God. ~ Ron Martoia
Knowledge Of God quotes by Ron Martoia
There is knowledge of God and the spiritual nature of man, as well as other types of reality ... , that are not reducible to the world dealt with by the so-called "natural" sciences. The idea that knowledge - and, of course, reality - is limited to that world is the single most destructive idea on the stage of life today. ~ Dallas Willard
Knowledge Of God quotes by Dallas Willard
True knowledge of God and of the secret of his wisdom comes from faith, because the obedience of faith opens to us the gate of the Kingdom of Heaven. ~ John Calvin
Knowledge Of God quotes by John Calvin
Why would anyone entertain Satan's questions about God's goodness when everything is good? But a few bumps in the road, and our knowledge of God seems fragile, and that's what Satan is counting on. ~ Edward T. Welch
Knowledge Of God quotes by Edward T. Welch
