My inspiration for writing music is like Don McLean did when he did "American Pie" or "Vincent". Lorraine Hansberry with "A Raisin in the Sun". Like Shakespeare when he does his thing, like deep stories, raw human needs.

I'm trying to think of a good analogy. It's like, you've got the Vietnam War, and because you had reporters showing us pictures of the war at home, that's what made the war end, or that shit would have lasted longer. If no one knew what was going on we would have thought they were just dying valiantly in some beautiful way. But because we saw the horror, that's what made us stop the war.

So I thought, that's what I'm going to do as an artist, as a rapper. I'm gonna show the most graphic details of what I see in my community and hopefully they'll stop it quick.

I've seen all of that-- the crack babies, what we had to go through, losing everything, being poor, and getting beat down. All of that. Being the person I am, I said no no no no. I'm changing this. ~ Tupac Shakur
Raisin quotes by Tupac Shakur
One of the odder services the Villa Candessa provided for its long-term guests was its "likeness cakes" - little frosted simulacra fashioned after the guests by the inn's Camorr-trained pastry sculptor. On a silver tray beside the looking glass, a little sweetbread Locke (with raisin eyes and almond-butter blond hair) sat beside a rounder Jean with dark chocolate hair and beard. The baked Jean's legs were already missing. A few moments later, Jean was brushing the last buttery crumbs from the front of his coat. "Alas, poor Locke and Jean." "They died of consumption," said Locke. ~ Scott Lynch
Raisin quotes by Scott Lynch
I love oatmeal raisin cookies. ~ Halston Sage
Raisin quotes by Halston Sage
My indulgences are Skittles and rum raisin ice cream. ~ Sanya Richards-Ross
Raisin quotes by Sanya Richards-Ross
A raisin is a grape that's had to many worries ~ Mary Jane Remole
Raisin quotes by Mary Jane Remole
People are not sophisticated. They see dark, they think "bad," "shady," "untrustworthy." They see light, they think "clean," "pure," "fresh." Jason tells me this is racist. So sue me: I'm just saying what I've observed. In the ice cream industry, you always want your chocolate-based flavors to appear creamy, not earthy or bitter. Our Devil's Food Cake, our Molten Fudge, our Cocoa-Loco. Marvelous flavors, all of them, but most of them sat in the cases for weeks, slowly crystallizing. Vanilla, meanwhile, is the number-one-selling flavor in America. You can't tell me this is simply because of the taste. Not when you have rum raisin available. Or mint chip. Yet Aryanism still carries the day, darlings, even in the ice cream freezer. I don't like this any more than you do. But there it is. ~ Susan Jane Gilman
Raisin quotes by Susan Jane Gilman
A single gram of antiparticles combined with a gram of normal particles would release more than 40 kilotonnes of explosive force, which is more than twice as powerful as the atomic bombs dropped by the United States in WWII. A normal household raisin weighs about a gram, so a raisin plus anti-raisin combination would be a dehydrated weapon of mass fruitation. ~ Jorge Cham
Raisin quotes by Jorge Cham
Regret is such a miserable word. But there have been plenty of times alone, where I wished I took the risk and gave someone my heart, and not just a sliver of it. After one stumble, you've pulled the shutters down. Closed up shop. I'm just saying, don't waste your life protecting your heart, or you'll get to the end of it and realize it wasn't worth it. ~ Rebecca Raisin
Raisin quotes by Rebecca Raisin
I'm just tired of hearing about God all the time. What has He got to do with anything? ... I'm not going to be immoral or commit crimes because I don't believe. I don't even think about that. I just get so tired of Him getting the credit for things the human race achieves through its own effort. Now, there simply is no God. There's only man. And it's he who makes miracles. ~ Lorraine Hansberry
Raisin quotes by Lorraine Hansberry
I have a friend who swears by food combinations - have you heard of this nonsense? She's nuts. She's like, 'You know what? You should eat food combinations, and that way you can eat whatever you want. It's just the combinations of how you put the food together.' And then her examples are like, 'You wouldn't want to eat steak and potatoes together, but you could have, like, a lemon rind and raisin skins - not the whole raisin, take the skins and steam them. ~ Brian Regan
Raisin quotes by Brian Regan
Lame. Fine, work on your mural. I'll go suck on a Froot Loop or something. Or maybe I'll just eat straight sugar. Yeah, I'll do that."
"Good-bye, Mo."
"A raisin. We probably have raisins. I'm sure nature's candy will hit the spot. ~ Jessica Martinez
Raisin quotes by Jessica Martinez
a wife and numerous progeny. The Judge was at a meeting of the Raisin Growers' Association, and the boys were busy organizing an athletic club, on the memorable night of Manuel's treachery. No one saw him and Buck go off through the orchard on what Buck imagined was merely a stroll. And with the exception of a solitary man, no one saw them arrive at the little flag station known as College Park. This man talked with Manuel, and money chinked ~ Jack London
Raisin quotes by Jack London
When we were unloading or going into a restaurant, the raisin got stepped on and smeared like a flapjack. The Hawk was displeased when he saw that. "Goddamn," he growled, "I gave you guys a hundred to get off cigarettes. I'll give you two hundred to get rid of these damn raisins! ~ Levon Helm
Raisin quotes by Levon Helm
Most people weren't aware that books chose us, at the time when we needed them most. ~ Rebecca Raisin
Raisin quotes by Rebecca Raisin
Never mind that she's been hearing this soliloquy from strangers since she was born, in the Year of the Fire Horse, twin sixes after the nineteen. Never mind the order of questions invariably changes even if the questions themselves do not: 'How long have y'all lived here? Do you even speak English? Oh, well. Your English is so good. Bless your heart, you must miss your people. You stick out like a raisin in a big bowl of oatmeal. Is it true that you worship cows? . . . Have you even heard of the Bible? Don't get all uppity on me, don't turn away. I know you think you don't have to listen. But this is my country. You do. When are y'all heading back? Y'all best be getting back to where you came from, you hear? No need to overstay your welcome. ~ Devi S. Laskar
Raisin quotes by Devi S. Laskar
Pervy and redundant, don't you think?" I asked the big gay cop, who wouldn't know a va-jay-jay if it bounced up to him and sang the "Star-Spangled Banner." (You ever notice that hardly anything besides the "Star-Spangled Banner" is spangled? There's no, like, the Raisin-Spangled Scone, or the Flea-Spangled Beagle. I'm just saying.)
Being the Journal of Abby Normal ~ Christopher Moore
Raisin quotes by Christopher Moore
I started with Sidney Poitier and Ruby Dee and Lou Gossett, Jr. and the rest of the wonderful cast of 'A Raisin In The Sun.' We were directed by the great Lloyd Richards. The play was written by the wonderful Lorraine Hansberry, and it was produced by Phil Rose. That's where my start was, so ... not a bad way to start. ~ Glynn Turman
Raisin quotes by Glynn Turman
Probably, we should all hate you," he was saying to Cade. "Illinois played against Northwestern that year for our homecoming, and you totally slaughtered us - " He broke off at the sound of a knock on the interior door to the suite.

A woman in her early twenties, dressed in a skirt and a black T-shirt with "Sterling Restaurants" in red letters, walked into the suite pushing a three-tiered dessert cart.

"Sweet Jesus, it's here," Charlie whispered reverently.

Brooke fought back a smile. The dessert cart was something Sterling Restaurants had introduced a year ago, as a perk for all of the skyboxes and luxury suites at the sports arenas they collaborated with. Needless to say, it had been a huge success. Four kinds of cake (chocolate with toffee glaze, carrot cake, traditional cheesecake, and a pineapple-raspberry tart), three types of cookies (chocolate chip, M&M, and oatmeal raisin), blond brownies, dark chocolate brownies, lemon squares, peach cobbler, four kinds of dessert liquors, taffy apples, and, on the third tier, a make-your-own sundae bar with all the fixings.

"Wow. That is some spread," Vaughn said, wide-eyed.

Simultaneously, the men sprang forward, bulldozed their way through the suite door, and attacked the cart like a pack of starving Survivor contestants.

All except for one.

Cade stayed right there, on the terrace. He leaned back against the railing, stretching out his tall, broad-sh ~ Julie James
Raisin quotes by Julie James
I just like Raisin Bran - it keeps me regular. ~ Gretchen Wilson
Raisin quotes by Gretchen Wilson
If there are occasions when my grape turned into a raisin and my joy bell lost its resonance, please forgive me. Charge it to my head and not to my heart. ~ Jesse Jackson
Raisin quotes by Jesse Jackson
To avoid congestion, I get up at 5:10, grab a slice of raisin toast, and leave the house at 6 A.M. My husband, Tim Dunn, who works for an environmental agency, is still asleep when I slip out, and I find that rather annoying. ~ Ellen Stofan
Raisin quotes by Ellen Stofan
At least books could never let you down. ~ Rebecca Raisin
Raisin quotes by Rebecca Raisin
Though my theory was books chose us, and not the other way around. ~ Rebecca Raisin
Raisin quotes by Rebecca Raisin
For almost a year, from June 1948 to October 1949, they kept the city alive by plane. In that time American and British planes made some 277,728 flights through Soviet airspace to drop bundles of food, clothing, cigarettes, medicine, fuel and equipment, including components for a new power station, to the people of West Berlin. In the west, the aircraft came to be known as the 'Rosinenbomber', or 'raisin bombers', because they brought food. But in the east, Koch and his classmates were told the enemy planes sprayed potato beetles over East German crops as they flew over, in order to spoil the harvest. ~ Anna Funder
Raisin quotes by Anna Funder
Let's not play games, Mr. Cratchett," I replied. "I wanted to let you know that I'll be coming in for an appointment with Mr. Raisin on Tuesday morning at eleven o'clock. I shall need about an hour and would prefer it if we were not disturbed during that time. I hope that he will be free at that hour but just so you both know, if he is not, then I am perfectly willing to sit in your office until he is free. I shall bring a book with me to pass the time. I shall bring two, if need be. I shall bring the complete works of Shakespeare if he insists on keeping me waiting interminably and those plays will get me through the long hours. But I will not leave until I have seen him, are we quite clear on that? Now, I wish you a very pleasant Sunday, Mr. Cratchett. Enjoy your lunch, won't you? Your breath smells of whisky. ~ John Boyne
Raisin quotes by John Boyne
Cherishables," I agreed. "Lovely little finds that have tiny value but lots of heart. Tea tins, picture frames, old perfume bottles. Half the fun is finding them, and the other half imagining where they came from. ~ Rebecca Raisin
Raisin quotes by Rebecca Raisin
Acting in 'Star Wars' I felt like a raisin in a giant fruit salad, and I didn't even know who the cantaloupes were. ~ Mark Hamill
Raisin quotes by Mark Hamill
If he wasn't careful he'd turn into one of those men who cared more about furniture than human beings. He'd end up living with someone else who cared more about furniture than human beings and they'd lead a life which looked perfectly normal from the outside but was, in truth, a kind of living death that left your heart looking like a raisin. Or ~ Mark Haddon
Raisin quotes by Mark Haddon
It was easier to hide behind the cover of my books, and I found happiness there. ~ Rebecca Raisin
Raisin quotes by Rebecca Raisin
A grape falls off a vine...and dries. Everything happens for a raisin ~ Jomny Sun
Raisin quotes by Jomny Sun
Mind your own business, you goddamn raisin with legs! Taran screamed from inside the house. ~ Cecy Robson
Raisin quotes by Cecy Robson
His name has to be Wrayson. Say it slow. Ray-sin. Rays-in. It's a double meaning
Gil Wrayson is undergoing a transformation. And he has to let the rays of sunlight in
those rays of sunlight coming in the form of Tiny's songs
in order to become his true self
no longer a plum, but a sun-soaked raisin. Don't you see? ~ John Green
Raisin quotes by John Green
Time cleaning was less time reading, so I usually just did the minimal amount, and left it for another day, a day that would never come. ~ Rebecca Raisin
Raisin quotes by Rebecca Raisin
There wasn't use trying to talk with a girl just because of something she'd said to me in a dream ~ Ross Raisin
Raisin quotes by Ross Raisin
Maybe some people were destined to be alone. But, I reminded myself, you're never alone if you read. ~ Rebecca Raisin
Raisin quotes by Rebecca Raisin
In my mother's house there is still God."
Act 1, Scene 1 ~ A Raisin in the Sun ~ Lorraine Hansberry
Raisin quotes by Lorraine Hansberry
Oh my. He's English.

"Er. Does Mer live here?"

Seriously, I don't know any American girl who can resist an English accent.

The boy clears his throat. "Meredith Chevalier? Tall girl? Big, curly hair?" Then he looks at me like I'm crazy or half deaf, like my Nana Oliphant. Nanna just smiles and shakes her head whenever I ask, "What kind of salad dressing would you like?" or "Where did you put Granddad's false teeth?"

"I'm sorry." He takes the smallest step away from me. "You were going to bed."

"Yes! Meredith lives here. I've just spent two hours with her." I announce this proudly like my little brother, Seany, whenever he finds something disgusting in the yard. "I'm Anna! I'm new here!" Oh, [Gosh]. What. Is with. The scary enthusiasm? My cheeks catch fire, and it's all so humiliating.

The beautiful boy gives an amused grin. His teeth are lovely - straight on top and crooked on the bottom, with a touch of overbite. I'm a sucker for smiles like this, due to my own lack of orthodontia. I have a gap between my front teeth the size of a raisin.

"Étienne," he says. "I live one floor up."

"I live here." I point dumbly at my room while my mind whirs: French name, English accent, American school. Anna confused.

He raps twice on Meredith's door. "Well. I'll see you around then, Anna."

Eh-t-yen says my name like this: Ah-na. ~ Stephanie Perkins
Raisin quotes by Stephanie Perkins
I chose to remain single because I couldn't commit to one person. But it isn't easy. There are plenty of times when I wonder if I made a huge mistake with some of the men I've loved and let go. Maybe I would have enjoyed love, after the dizzying rapture faded, and was replaced with something more fulsome? Truer, deeper? But I never gave it a chance. And that might have been a huge mistake... ~ Rebecca Raisin
Raisin quotes by Rebecca Raisin
Bookworms do that a lot, fall for the hero in their latest read and get terribly down about the fact they're fictional. ~ Rebecca Raisin
Raisin quotes by Rebecca Raisin
You'd forgive me for Claire - but not for killing your ... men. He glanced at the two Craddocks, spotty as a pair of raisin puddings and - Grey's look implied - likely no brighter. ~ Diana Gabaldon
Raisin quotes by Diana Gabaldon
Then you're seventy-five, friends are dead, and you've replaced at least one major organ: you have to pee four times a night, and you can't go up a flight a stairs without being little winded
and your're told you're in pretty good shape for your age.
[ ... ], in a decade you'll be eighty-five, and the only difference between you and a raisin will be that while you're both wrinkled and without a prostate, the raisin never had a prostate to begin with. ~ John Scalzi
Raisin quotes by John Scalzi
What magic there is in a girl's smile! It is the raisin which, dropped in the yeast of male complacency, induces fermentation. ~ P.G. Wodehouse
Raisin quotes by P.G. Wodehouse
I smoke on the mic like Smokin' Joe Frazier,
The hell raiser, raisin' hell with the flavor. ~ Inspectah Deck
Raisin quotes by Inspectah Deck
Every week, I heave open a supermarket skip and find therein a more exotic shopping list of items than I could possibly have invented - Belgian chocolates, ripe bananas, almond croissants, stone-ground raisin bread - often so much it would have fed a hundred people. ~ Tristram Stuart
Raisin quotes by Tristram Stuart
I am a picky eater. By that I mean, I love to pick the raisins out of oatmeal raisin cookies, the chips out of chocolate chip cookies, the white side off of black and white cookies, and the vanilla center out of Oreos. ~ Dylan Lauren
Raisin quotes by Dylan Lauren
Another piece of Zygo-Gogozizzle 24 ended up landing in a grape vineyard on planet Pinot. The Zygo-Gogozizzle 24 was quickly absorbed into the soil and was subsequently soaked up into the grapes. These grapes, which had until recently been harvested almost to extinction, suddenly became self-aware and super intelligent. They banded together in bunches and rose up to defeat their oppressors. The battle lasted one whole night, but sadly, it ended the next morning when the sun came up. The rebellion shriveled when the poor grapes ran out of juice. Apparently there's a raisin for everything. ~ Dav Pilkey
Raisin quotes by Dav Pilkey
Some stories consumed you, they made time stop, your worries float into the ether, and when it came to my reading habits I chose romance over any other genre. The appeal of the happy ever after, the winsome heroine being adored for who she was, and the devastatingly handsome hero with more to him than met the eye tugged at my heart. ~ Rebecca Raisin
Raisin quotes by Rebecca Raisin
I want to move to the mountains. I want to live in a little cabin next to a towering, tenacious mountain fourteen thousand feet above sea level and eat a bowl of raisin bran every morning in its shadow. ~ Jess Riley
Raisin quotes by Jess Riley
Some days, my life flashes before me in the blink of an eye, until I get to the scenes I wish I could change, and they play over again and again, until I can't see straight. Promise me though, you'll stop pouring every ounce of yourself into work. Save a part of your life for something else. ~ Rebecca Raisin
Raisin quotes by Rebecca Raisin
I had to remember my life wasn't a romance novel, no matter how much I wanted it to be. ~ Rebecca Raisin
Raisin quotes by Rebecca Raisin
I fell in love with Paris, and its people, and the creative souls who'd made it this way. ~ Rebecca Raisin
Raisin quotes by Rebecca Raisin
The jabroni beating, pie eating, trail-blazin', eyebrow raisin', all around, smack it down People's Champ, The Rock! ~ Dwayne Johnson
Raisin quotes by Dwayne Johnson
You know that frustrating feeling of losing the page in your book? You didn't want to go too far ahead and spoil the surprise, and you didn't want to go too far back, so you kind of stagnated and started from a page that didn't seem quite right, but you read it a few times just to convince yourself... That was how I felt about my life. A little lost, I guess you could say. ~ Rebecca Raisin
Raisin quotes by Rebecca Raisin
I don't believe in prom,' I reminded her as she rounded a corner. I expertly angled my raisin bran to accomodate the g-forces. I'd done this before. ~ John Green
Raisin quotes by John Green
This particular book felt familiar, like an old friend. The characters drew me into their world, and I blocked out mine for the rest of the afternoon. ~ Rebecca Raisin
Raisin quotes by Rebecca Raisin
I am afraid that if I start to sob, I will never stop until I shrivel up like a raisin. ~ Veronica Roth
Raisin quotes by Veronica Roth
The poison dart hidden in the raisin tart. ... ~ Christopher Paolini
Raisin quotes by Christopher Paolini
My books have taken me around the world, but it's time I stepped from the pages, so I can see it for myself ~ Rebecca Raisin
Raisin quotes by Rebecca Raisin
Raisins again. I like raisins, but I have a habit of losing one or two on the floor every time I eat them. I always find them later and think they are: a) a mouse turd or b) a cockroach. Then I figure out it's a raisin and sigh with relief. This pretty much happens every time I find a lost raisin. ~ Julie Halpern
Raisin quotes by Julie Halpern
My life is too lonely without fictional people crowding my mind. ~ Rebecca Raisin
Raisin quotes by Rebecca Raisin
I realized with Broadway everything written for black people is usually written in the past, and I'm kind of a contemporary guy. I don't think you want to see me in 'Raisin in the Sun'. ~ Chris Rock
Raisin quotes by Chris Rock
A grape may become a raisin, and taste the sweeter for it, but even a raisin rot on the vine, if you do nothing for it. ~ E.J. Patten
Raisin quotes by E.J. Patten
Cause sometimes it's hard to let the future begin! ~ Lorraine Hansberry
