On the most basic levels, I desire fullness, and fleshly lusts seduce me by attaching themselves to this basic desire. They exploit the empty spaces in me, and they promise that fulness will be mine if I give in to their demands. When my soul sits empty and is aching for something to fill it, such deceptive promises are extremely difficult to resist.

Consequently, the key to mortifying fleshly lusts is to eliminate the emptiness within me and replace it with fullness; and I accomplish this by feasting on the gospel. Indeed, it is in the gospel that I experience a God who glorifies Himself by filling me with His fullness. . . . This is the God of the gospel, a God who is satisfied with nothing less than my experience of fullness in Him! . . .

Indeed, as I perpetually feast on Christ and all His blessings found in the gospel, I find that my hunger for sin diminishes and the lies of lust simply lose their appeal. Hence, to the degree that I am full, I am free. Eyes do not rove, nor do fleshly lusts rule, when the heart is fat with the love of Jesus! ~ Milton Vincent
My Hunger quotes by Milton Vincent
The truth is I don't want him watching me while I eat. I don't want him to see my hunger. If you have a need and they find it out, they will use it against you. The best way is to stop from wanting anything. He ~ Margaret Atwood
My Hunger quotes by Margaret Atwood
Though my appetite for food grew frail, my hunger for books was constant. ~ Diane Setterfield
My Hunger quotes by Diane Setterfield
Oh I'll die I'll die I'll die
My skin is in blazing furore
I do not know what I'll do where I'll go oh I am sick
I'll kick all Arts in the butt and go away Shubha
Shubha let me go and live in your cloaked melon
In the unfastened shadow of dark destroyed saffron curtain
The last anchor is leaving me after I got the other anchors lifted
I can't resist anymore, a million glass panes are breaking in my cortex
I know, Shubha, spread out your matrix, give me peace
Each vein is carrying a stream of tears up to the heart
Brain's contagious flints are decomposing out of eternal sickness
other why didn't you give me birth in the form of a skeleton
I'd have gone two billion light years and kissed God's ass
But nothing pleases me nothing sounds well
I feel nauseated with more than a single kiss
I've forgotten women during copulation and returned to the Muse
In to the sun-coloured bladder
I do not know what these happenings are but they are occurring within me
I'll destroy and shatter everything
draw and elevate Shubha in to my hunger
Shubha will have to be given
Oh Malay
Kolkata seems to be a procession of wet and slippery organs today
But i do not know what I'll do now with my own self
My power of recollection is withering away
Let me ascend alone toward death
I haven't had to learn copulation and dying
I haven't had to learn the responsibility of sheddi ~ Malay Roychoudhury
My Hunger quotes by Malay Roychoudhury
Writing this book is the most difficult thing I've ever done. To lay myself so vulnerable has not been an easy thing. To face myself and what living in my body has been like has not been an easy thing, but I wrote this book because it felt necessary. In writing this memoir of my body, in telling you these truths about my body, I am sharing my truth and mine alone. I understand if that truth is not something you want to hear. The truth makes me uncomfortable too. But I am also saying, here is my heart, what's left of it. Here I am showing you the ferocity of my hunger. Here I am, finally freeing myself to be vulnerable and terribly human. Here I am, reveling in that freedom. Here. See what I hunger for and what my truth has allowed me to create. ~ Roxane Gay
My Hunger quotes by Roxane Gay
Being happy in God and living righteously tastes far better for far longer than sin does. When my hunger and thirst for joy is satisfied by Christ, sin becomes unattractive. I say no to immorality not because I hate pleasure but because I want the enduring pleasure found in Christ. ~ Randy Alcorn
My Hunger quotes by Randy Alcorn
I never needed a Man. I needed a Viking. I needed someone who wasn't afraid of my strengths, or of my needs. I chose wrong... in the past. I thought I had to find someone who could put up with my hunger for life. But I was so damn wrong. I needed a Viking. I needed someone who would admire all the things about me that tepid men were intimidated by. ~ Alfa Holden
My Hunger quotes by Alfa Holden
I seek to be moved, my imagination reborn.
Let me feast on poems that feed my hunger. ~ Susie Clevenger
My Hunger quotes by Susie Clevenger
My trip to the former Yugoslavia had opened the world for me, and my hunger for the world. In doing so, it undid the contained, safe borders of my existence. Suddenly a woman weeping over her lost son in an image on the front page of The New York Times was no longer a theoretical entity. She was real, a woman I might have met, might have known. I was connected to her. I could no longer divorce myself from her pain, her suffering. Initially this was overwhelming. I had nightmares. I felt restless and wrong in my comforting life in America. Everything seemed absurd and pointless. I came to understand why we block out the pain and atrocities of others. That pain, if we allow it to enter us, makes our lives impossible. It forces us to examine our own values and reality. It insists that we be responsible for others. It thrusts us into the messy world where there are no easy solutions or reasons, only struggles and questions. It creates great fissures in the landscape of our insulated, so-called safe reality. Fissures that, once split open, can never close again. It compels us to act. ~ Eve Ensler
My Hunger quotes by Eve Ensler
I had no pain--my hunger had taken the edge off it. In its stead I felt pleasantly empty, untouched by everything around me, and glad not to be noticed by any one. I put my feet up on the seat and leant back. Thus I could best appreciate the well-being of perfect isolation. There was not a cloud on my mind, not a feeling of discomfort, and so far as my thought reached, I had not a whim, not a desire unsatisfied. I lay with open eyes, in a state of utter absence of mind. I felt myself charmed away. ~ Knut Hamsun
My Hunger quotes by Knut Hamsun
The hunt isn't sustaining me. It's flowing blood that I really crave. The sweet taste of red succulent liquid mixing with the salt of my beloved as it drips and dances on his flesh. To know that someone will ache for me as much as I hunger for him and eternally satiate each other. I want someone to satisfy my hunger forever. ~ Ellen Schreiber
My Hunger quotes by Ellen Schreiber
It was the scientist in me, you see. It was the desire to see all the everything beyond the Golden City. To escape the sycophants, the provincial. The hunger to know. It is my greatest weapon. But the mask conceals this. And a lie meant for my people ensnares everyone. Even my enemies. They think they have me-- a king reduced to chains. But I know a secret that I cannot yet tell. First I must put villainous means to proper ends... and let them feed my hunger to know. ~ Ta-Nehisi Coates
My Hunger quotes by Ta-Nehisi Coates
My time in the World Rally Championship has been a useful stage in my career, but I can't deny the fact that my hunger for F1 has recently become overwhelming. ~ Kimi Raikkonen
My Hunger quotes by Kimi Raikkonen
An angel kissed my strings, while I slept last night. And her rhythm broke my hunger. And I died a little less. ~ Sara Quin
My Hunger quotes by Sara Quin
The wild girl is with me always; she is my rage and my hunger, and if I live what passes for a decent life in this world, it is because I know to say no to the thing inside me that yearns, even now, to burn it all down. ~ Mary Stewart Atwell
My Hunger quotes by Mary Stewart Atwell
I will do whatever is necessary to protect you and her. Last night only muted my hunger for you to a hum. I'm not ready to let you go. Not now, not ever. ~ Lia Davis
My Hunger quotes by Lia Davis
Could I make tongue say more than tongue could utter! Could I make brain grasp more than brain could think! Could I weave into immortal denseness some small brede of words, pluck out of sunken depths the roots of living, some hundred thousand magic words that were as great as all my hunger, and hurl the sum of all my living out upon three hundred pages - then death could take my life, for I had lived it ere he took it: I had slain hunger, beaten death! ~ Thomas Wolfe
My Hunger quotes by Thomas Wolfe
My hunger for writing will die when I have bled for the humans that never found the strength to find the words themselves ~ Christopher Poindexter
My Hunger quotes by Christopher Poindexter
She was a blank, clean, white sheet for me to scribble on. And I scribbled. On her lips, on her jaw, her neck and collarbone. I jotted my hunger for her in vivid colors as ~ L.J. Shen
My Hunger quotes by L.J. Shen
After a childhood of hungering to be an adult, my hunger had passed. Unexpected fates had begun to catch my notice. These middle-aged women seemed very tired to me, as if hope had been wrung out of them and replaced with a deathly, walking sort of sleep. ~ Lorrie Moore
My Hunger quotes by Lorrie Moore
It became such a recurring experience during this period when I was twenty
to be starving and afraid of running out of money
as I wandered from Brussels to Burma and everywhere in between for months on end, that I later came to see it as a part of my training as a cook. I came to see hunger as being as important a part of a stage as knife skills. Because so much starving on that trip led to such an enormous amount of time fantasizing about food, each craving became fanatically particular. Hunger was not general, ever, for just something, anything, to eat. My hunger grew so specific I could name every corner and fold of it. Salty, warm, brothy, starchy, fatty, sweet, clean and crunchy, crisp and water, and so on. ~ Gabrielle Hamilton
My Hunger quotes by Gabrielle Hamilton
Death holds no allure for me, Elena." The power of him cut against his skin, a cold white fire. "Not when I have yet to sate my hunger for you. ~ Nalini Singh
My Hunger quotes by Nalini Singh
[My] hunger and thirst was, and still remains: How do I get people who hate poetry to love me? ~ Lemon Andersen
My Hunger quotes by Lemon Andersen
I could smell the food fill up my hunger before the order was even
placed. ~ Phindiwe Nkosi
My Hunger quotes by Phindiwe Nkosi
I wish i could feed my soul just like i feed my hunger. ~ Futty-fuze
My Hunger quotes by Futty-fuze
My hunger is always there. ~ Usain Bolt
My Hunger quotes by Usain Bolt
My hunger is not for success, it is for excellence. Because when you attain excellence, success just naturally follows. ~ Mike Krzyzewski
My Hunger quotes by Mike Krzyzewski
I'd eat a mosquito to satisfy my hunger for an itch. ~ Jarod Kintz
My Hunger quotes by Jarod Kintz
My attraction to story is a ceaseless current that runs through the center of me. My inexhaustible ardor for reading seems connected to my hunger for storylines that show up in both books and in the great tumbling chaos of life. ~ Pat Conroy
My Hunger quotes by Pat Conroy
There is so much to read and the days are so short! I get more hungry for knowledge every day, and less able to satisfy my hunger. ~ George Eliot
My Hunger quotes by George Eliot
Nature satisfies my thirst; it feeds my hunger; it finds me clothing; it affords me shelter; it wraps me around when I sleep with beneficent and watchful care; and it takes me at last to its great bosom, where my ashes mingle with their kindred dust. ~ Edwin Hubbel Chapin
My Hunger quotes by Edwin Hubbel Chapin
My hunger and curiosity drive me forward in all directions at once. ~ Henry Miller
My Hunger quotes by Henry Miller
There was only one thing I wanted: to be left alone, without too many demand upon my person, so that for a few moments each day I might be allowed to assuage my hunger. ~ Muriel Barbery
My Hunger quotes by Muriel Barbery
My hunger, too, has both hard and soft parts. ~ Franny Choi
My Hunger quotes by Franny Choi
It's more for me as with going into a forest: if you sit quietly for a long time, the life around you emerges. As the world grows ever more clamorous, my hunger for silence steepens. I unplug the landline. ~ Jane Hirshfield
My Hunger quotes by Jane Hirshfield
That afternoon, I went to Henry with a suggestion.
Michael and Graham were still ill. But I was feeling almost fit again.
"Why not let Geoffrey and me head up to camp two, so we can be in position just in case the typhoon heads away?"
It was a long shot--a very long shot--but as the golfer Jack Nicklaus once said: "Never up, never in."
Sure as hell, I wasn't going to stand any chance of the summit, sitting here at base camp twiddling my thumbs, waiting.
In addition, at camp two, I could be a radio go-between from base camp (where Henry was) and the team higher up.
That was the clincher.
Henry knew that Michael and Graham weren't likely to recover any time soon. He understood my hunger, and he recognized the same fire that he had possessed in his own younger days.
His own mountaineering maxim was: "Ninety-nine percent cautiousness; one percent recklessness."
But knowing when to use that 1 percent is the mountaineer's real skill.
I stifled a cough and left his tent grinning.
I was going up. ~ Bear Grylls
My Hunger quotes by Bear Grylls
After the Olympics and being on such a high and then losing in the World Championships, I was distraught. But now, looking back on it, I think it was the biggest blessing. I was going into every fight thinking I have to win because I am Olympic champion and putting too much pressure on myself. I lost my hunger and stopped enjoying my taekwondo. ~ Jade Jones
My Hunger quotes by Jade Jones
I go fishing in my mind. I put out bait, the bait of my own longing, my desire, and my hunger for connection, for a tug of something alive at the end of a line. Something that I may have to struggle with to pull in, but that will be wild and important to me, whether I keep it or let it go. ~ Pat Schneider
My Hunger quotes by Pat Schneider
Having stumbled upon a tolerable career, for the first time in my life I was actually living above the poverty line. My hunger to climb had been blunted, in short, by a bunch of small satisfactions that added up to something like happiness. ~ Jon Krakauer
My Hunger quotes by Jon Krakauer
Of course, a good meal might have helped; but I had already abolished my hunger by eating chocolate cake with fungus icing. Or I could have gone to a movie and smoked some grass. But when you're in that kind of sweat, the only lasting remedy is to ride with it: accept the anxiety, be depressed, relax, and let the current carry you where it will. ~ Truman Capote
My Hunger quotes by Truman Capote
If I Go, I'm Goin"

This house
She's holding secrets
I got my change behind the bed

In a coffee can
I throw my nickels in
Just in case I have to leave

And I will go if you ask me to
I will stay if you dare
And if I go I'm goin shameless
I'll let my hunger take me there

This house
She's quite the talker
She creeks and moans
She keeps me up

And the photographs
Know I'm a liar
They just laugh as I burn her down

And I will go if you ask me to
I will stay if you dare
And if I go I'm goin on fire
Let my anger take me there

The shingles man they're shaking
The back door's burning through
This old house she's quite the keeper
Quite the keeper of you

I will go if you ask me to
I will stay if you dare
And if I go, I'm goin crazy
I'll let my darlin take me there
If I go, I'm goin crazy
I'll let my darlin take me there

This Empty Northern Hemisphere (2009) ~ Gregory Alan Isakov
My Hunger quotes by Gregory Alan Isakov
Like many women who've dieted on and off for years, I was scared to stop counting Weight Watchers points or calories or fat grams or whatever I was counting at any given moment, afraid that if I stopped restraining myself, my hunger would be insatiable. I had to learn to trust my own appetite, and man, was that scary. I mean, if there were no rules, what would stop me from just eating and eating and eating until I weighed five hundred pounds? How would I know when to stop eating the foods I loved if there was no one to tell me to stop? ~ Harriet Brown
My Hunger quotes by Harriet Brown
I try to feed my hunger rather than my appetite. ~ Ginger Rogers
My Hunger quotes by Ginger Rogers
During the day I force myself to at least eat some salads rather than rubbish, and a steak in the evening. In fact, I eat to basically satisfy my hunger. I hardly have the time to appreciate a meal, and I'm everything, but a gourmet. ~ Milla Jovovich
My Hunger quotes by Milla Jovovich
Thus with my lips have I denounced you, while my heart, bleeding within me, called you tender names.
It was love lashed by its own self that spoke. It was pride half slain that fluttered in the dust. It was my hunger for your love that raged from the housetop, while my own love, kneeling in silence, prayed your forgiveness. ~ Kahlil Gibran
My Hunger quotes by Kahlil Gibran
My hunger and desperation, being an actor, an out of work actor - my memory of that is as fresh as an open wound. ~ Griffin Dunne
My Hunger quotes by Griffin Dunne
My grandmother impressed upon me the importance of family, and my grandfather encouraged my hunger for learning. ~ Harley Viera-Newton
My Hunger quotes by Harley Viera-Newton
The myriads that raise the cry of hunger wail in the greatest empire in the world ~ Jack London
My Hunger quotes by Jack London
A person breathes in nearly 2 pounds of oxygen a day, so that's the daily requirement for about ten thousand people. Every walk in the forest is like taking a shower in oxygen. But only during the day. Trees manufacture large amounts of carbohydrates not only to lay them down as wood but also to satisfy their hunger. Trees use carbohydrates as fuel, just as we do, and when they do, they convert sugar into energy and carbon dioxide. During the day, this doesn't affect the air much because after all the additions and subtractions, there is still that surplus oxygen I just mentioned. At night, however, the trees don't photosynthesize, and so they don't break down carbon dioxide. Quite the opposite, in fact. In the darkness, it's all about using carbohydrates, burning sugar in the cells' power-generating stations, and releasing carbon dioxide. But don't worry, you won't suffocate if you take a nighttime ramble! A steady movement of air through the forest ensures that all the gases are well mixed at all times, and so the drop in oxygen near the ground is not particularly noticeable. ~ Peter Wohlleben
My Hunger quotes by Peter Wohlleben
Energy in the morning, determination at midday, hunger in the evening. ~ John Katzenbach
My Hunger quotes by John Katzenbach
Life Stories: Why hunger for these? One, it fits a hunger. Maybe it is more like bossiness. Maybe we just want to be in charge of the life, no matter who lived it ... ~ Margaret Atwood
My Hunger quotes by Margaret Atwood
What do you think?" she softly whispered. "I think I want nothing more than to please you." He whispered back while pulling her down to the bed. She looked at him with wanting and hunger. ~ A.L. Haddix
My Hunger quotes by A.L. Haddix
Healing comes when our story is raw, bone-deep and full of hunger for what only Jesus can offer. ~ Dan B. Allender
My Hunger quotes by Dan B. Allender
Steel tempered by fire," she said aloud, without thinking.
"Am I?" he asked.
She smiled sadly. "Aren't you?"
He let out a long, slow breath and some of the tension drained out of him. He looked at her quizzically. "You give me peace," he said unexpectedly. "The only time I ever feel it is when I'm with you. God knows why, when you set me off like a bomb."
She searched his eyes. "Tate, Senator Holden has a reason for what he did," she told him seriously. "I don't pretend to know what it is, but I know him. He's not like some politicians who lie when the truth would suit better. He has integrity. He doesn't hold grudges and he doesn't backstab. You know that," she added with conviction.
He scowled. "Yes, I do." His narrow eyes searched hers. "What do you know, Cecily?"
"I know archaeology," she replied.
He reached out and touched her firm little chin with hard fingers. "You're keeping something from me," he said in a low, deep tone. "I'm not sure why I sense that, but I do."
"You think you know all about me," she replied, trying to draw back. "Don't…do that," she muttered, reaching up to catch his hair-roughened wrist in her warm fingers.
His breath caught. "Fatal error, Cecily," he said huskily, moving in, giving in to the hunger that had really brought him to her apartment at this hour of the night. "You shouldn't have touched me… ~ Diana Palmer
My Hunger quotes by Diana Palmer
In an unmoored life like mine, sleep and hunger and work arrange themselves to suit themselves, without consulting me. ~ Kurt Vonnegut
My Hunger quotes by Kurt Vonnegut
There are many types of monsters in this world, monsters who will not show themselves and who cause trouble. Monsters who abduct children, monsters who devour dreams, monsters who suck blood, and monsters who always tell lies. Lying monsters are a real nuisance. They are much more cunning than other monsters. They pose as humans, even though they have no understanding of the human heart. They eat, even though they've never experienced hunger. They study even though the have no interest in academics. They seek friendship even though they do not know how to love. If I were to encounter such a monster, I would likely be eaten by it because, in truth, I am that monster. ~ L Lawliet
My Hunger quotes by L Lawliet
Thanks is what multiplies the joy and makes any life large, and I hunger for it. ~ Ann Voskamp
My Hunger quotes by Ann Voskamp
I can't think of any issue that is more important than working to see that no schoolchild in this world goes hungry. ~ Drew Barrymore
My Hunger quotes by Drew Barrymore
It's appalling that there should be hunger anywhere, but particularly in a country like America, where there is also such great wealth. ~ Elizabeth Hurley
My Hunger quotes by Elizabeth Hurley
The possibility suggests itself that no dreams, however absurd or senseless, are wasted in the universe. Embedded in the dream is a hunger for its own reification, a demand that imposes an obligation on reality and that grows imperceptibly into a bona fide claim, an IOU clamoring for payment. ~ Bruno Schulz
My Hunger quotes by Bruno Schulz
What we had between us was nothing as simple as longing or sexual desire. It was a hunger for beauty and meaning, and a willingness to search in the world and in ourselves to find it. We had a sense of permanence and the fear of oblivion. We knew, of course, that everything was transient and nothing could last- and yet it didn't stop us from wishing for something eternally beautiful ~ Laurie Lico Albanese
My Hunger quotes by Laurie Lico Albanese
Mercy Corps' partnership with The Hunger Site translates into lifesaving assistance for people in tremendous need around the world. When you visit, click, and shop at this unique site, you're making the future a little brighter for families who need food in the world's poorest places. ~ Dan O'Neill
My Hunger quotes by Dan O'Neill
Then Christian made the fatal mistake of looking into her eyes. Suddenly he couldn't move a muscle. They smoldered with a terrible black anger even as her mouth returned his kiss. It was as if they were two separate beings, the sweetness of her mouth upon his, and the darkness of her terrible eyes draining the life out of him. Christian could feel her heart racing, the fury of her blood uncontrollable, and he knew that if she couldn't rein it in somehow, he would be lost. Already his hunger eviscerated him, he could feel the holes in his gut as those eyes, so blackly terrifying - hers but not hers, sucking everything from him, taking, feeding ... killing. He felt wetness on his face.
Somehow, she'd become the vampire. ~ Amalie Howard
My Hunger quotes by Amalie Howard
There is a new face to hunger today. Many of the people who come to food pantries and soup kitchens are people who never thought they would need help - people who were once part of the middle class and are now unemployed or underemployed - people who are struggling to get by from day to day and week to week. ~ Vicki Escarra
My Hunger quotes by Vicki Escarra
Cruel irony, the poor man tormented with hunger feeds those who plead his case. ~ Albert Camus
My Hunger quotes by Albert Camus
Fuck! Sweat rolled down his spine as he covered the remaining distance at extreme speed.
She wasn't allowed to die, he thought, his rage dark red flame. Not until he'd flushed this vicious hunger for her from his system. ~ Nalini Singh
My Hunger quotes by Nalini Singh
I am not a big 'Hunger Games' fan. ~ Gillian Jacobs
My Hunger quotes by Gillian Jacobs
Our foremost priority is the removal of poverty, hunger and malnutrition, disease and illiteracy. All social welfare programmes must be implemented efficiently. Agencies involved in the delivery of services should have a strong sense of duty and work in a transparent, corruption-free, time-bound and accountable manner. ~ Pratibha Patil
My Hunger quotes by Pratibha Patil
One who is hungry for growth, doesn't requires motivation and training.. He just needs an opportunity ... ~ Honeya
My Hunger quotes by Honeya
She reaches in, digs her hand deep into the ball, and pulls out a slip of paper. The crowd draws in a collective breath, and then you can hear a pin drop, and I'm feeling nauseous and so desperately hoping that it's not me, that it's not me, that it's not me.
Effie Trinket crosses back to the podium, smoothes the slip of paper, and reads out the name in a clear voice. And it's not me.
It's Primrose Everdeen. ~ Suzanne Collins
My Hunger quotes by Suzanne Collins
Deep and regular breathing, also referred to as diaphragmatic breathing, helps to quiet the sympathetic nervous system and allows the parasympathetic nervous system - which governs our sense of hunger and satiety, the relaxation response, and many aspects of healthy organ function - to become more dominant. ~ Jocelyn K. Glei
My Hunger quotes by Jocelyn K. Glei
Even if you can't be totally mindful at every meal, if you can say a blessing, silently if necessary, or offer up a prayer for someone, something beyond yourself and your food, the prayer helps to transform eating into something that affects not only our hunger at that moment but the greater world. ~ Mary DeTurris Poust
My Hunger quotes by Mary DeTurris Poust
We all have families who are longing for peace in the world and an end to the suffering caused by poverty, disease, and hunger. Untold numbers of our friends, our neighbors, our parents, and our children, are hoping that there is more understanding, more generosity, more genuine friendship, and more caring among people of all faiths and cultures. ~ John Conyers
My Hunger quotes by John Conyers
Boredom is anathema to the adventurous spirit, and when mixed with hunger, the effect could be forgot toxic. ~ Jonathan Auxier
My Hunger quotes by Jonathan Auxier
Shukhov ate his supper without bread
a double portion and bread on top of it would be too rich. So he'd save the bread. You get no thanks from your belly
it always forgets what you've just done for it and comes begging again the next day. ~ Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn
My Hunger quotes by Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn
Sigmund Freud once asserted, "Let one attempt to expose a number of the most diverse people uniformly to hunger. With the increase of the imperative urge of hunger all individual differences will blur, and in their stead will appear the uniform expression of the one unstilled urge." Thank heaven, Sigmund Freud was spared knowing the concentration camps from the inside. His subjects lay on a couch designed in the plush style of Victorian culture, not in the filth of Auschwitz. There, the "individual differences" did not "blur" but, on the contrary, people became more different; people unmasked themselves, both the swine and the saints. ~ Viktor E. Frankl
My Hunger quotes by Viktor E. Frankl
Frankly, we hesitate to pile on the data, since even when numbers are persuasive, they are not galvanizing. A growing collection of psychological studies show that statistics have a dulling effect, while it is individual stories that move people to act. In one experiment, research subjects were divided into several group, and each person was asked to donate $5 to alleviate hunger abroad. One group was told the money would go to Rokia, a seven-year-old girl in Mali. Another group was told that the money would go to address malnutrition among 21 million Africans. The third group was told that the donations would go to Roka, as in the first group, but this time her own hunger was presented as part of a background tapestry of global hunger, with some statistics thrown in. People were much more willing to donate to Rokia than to 21 million hungry people, and even a mention of the larger problem made people less inclined to help her. In another experiment, people were asked to donate to a $300,000 fund to fight cancer. One group was told that the money would be used to save the life of one child, while another group was told it would save the lives of eight children. People contributed almost twice as much to save one child as to save eight. Social psychologists argue that all this reflects the way our consciences and ethical systems are based on individual stories and are distinct from the parts of our brain concerned with logical and rationality. Indeed, when subjects in experime ~ Nicholas D. Kristof
My Hunger quotes by Nicholas D. Kristof
The key to Christian living is a thirst and hunger for God. And one of the main reasons people do not understand or experience the sovereignty of grace and the way it works through the awakening of sovereign joy is that their hunger and thirst for God is so small. ~ John Piper
My Hunger quotes by John Piper
I raise an eyebrow, working to achieve the right tone of intellectual superiority. If you've never read the Twilight books or the Hunger Games series you wouldn't understand. Not. One. Bit. They are complex stories. Big words. Probably beyond you. ~ Anne Eliot
My Hunger quotes by Anne Eliot
