Many of us are trying to lead multiple lives: child, mother, wife, lover, star, giving small doses of oxygen to each and imploding under the weight of so many competing roles. The women I have written in Bombshells struggle - sometimes hilariously, sometimes tragically - to bridge the chasm between the wilderness of their inner worlds and the demands of their outer worlds. And humour, in the end, is our saviour. ~ Joanna Murray-Smith
Melanesian Women quotes by Joanna Murray-Smith
For me a page of good prose is where one hears the rain. A page of good prose is when one hears the noise of battle ... A page of good prose seems to me the most serious dialogue that well-informed and intelligent men and women carry on today in their endeavor to make sure that the fires of this planet burn peaceably. ~ John Cheever
Melanesian Women quotes by John Cheever
What the world wants today is twenty men and women who can dare to stand in the street yonder and say that they possess nothing but God. Who will go? Why should one fear? If this is true, what else could matter? If it is not true, what do our lives matter? ~ Swami Vivekananda
Melanesian Women quotes by Swami Vivekananda
I cannot understand any woman's wanting to be the first woman to do anything ... It is a devastating burden and I could not take it, could not be a pioneer, a Symbol of Something Greater. ~ Nora Ephron
Melanesian Women quotes by Nora Ephron
Luke 8 Women Who Followed Jesus Soon afterward Jesus began a tour of the nearby towns and villages, preaching and announcing the Good News about the Kingdom of God. He took his twelve disciples with him, 2 along with some women who had been cured of evil spirits and diseases. Among them were Mary Magdalene, from whom he had cast out seven demons; 3 Joanna, the wife of Chuza, Herod's business manager; Susanna; and many others who were contributing from their own resources to support Jesus and his disciples. ~ Anonymous
Melanesian Women quotes by Anonymous
For the men, they are more of a risk taker, and for the women, they are more nurturing and more details. So the combination of the men and women is very good for business. ~ Teresita Sy-Coson
Melanesian Women quotes by Teresita Sy-Coson
The women have been told it's written in the Koran that they must do these things," she said. She could tell them it wasn't but, as an outsider and a woman, her word meant little against the word of the village sheik. ~ Geraldine Brooks
Melanesian Women quotes by Geraldine Brooks
It was a stretch to imagine that Barbara Walters might want to give it all up for Ed Couch, but Evelyn tried her hardest. Of course, even though she was not religious, it was a comfort to know that the Bible backed her up in being a doormat. ~ Fannie Flagg
Melanesian Women quotes by Fannie Flagg
I believe that all women are like works of art. Like art, women come in different colors, sizes, and forms. And like works of art, every woman is unique, beautiful... and should be appreciated and treasured as such. ~ Tia Fanning
Melanesian Women quotes by Tia Fanning
It has been rumored that "Psycho" is so terrifying that it will scare some people speechless. Some of my men hopefully sent their wives to a screening. The women emerged badly shaken but still vigorously vocal. ~ Alfred Hitchcock
Melanesian Women quotes by Alfred Hitchcock
I believe I can read a little in the souls of those around me; maybe it is not so. Oh, when I have a good day I feel as if I can peer deep into other people's souls, although I don't have a particularly good head on my shoulders. We sit in a room, some men and women and I, and I seem to see what is going on in the hearts of these people and what they think of me. I put something into every flashing glance of their eyes; occasionally the blood rushes to their cheeks so they turn red, at other times they pretend to be looking another way while still watching me out of the corner of their eyes. There I sit observing all this, and nobody suspects that I see through every soul. For several years I have thought I could read the souls of everybody. Maybe it is not so. . . . ~ Knut Hamsun
Melanesian Women quotes by Knut Hamsun
People of peace, men and women of desire, such is the splendor of the Temple in which you will one day have the right to take your place. Such privilege should astonish you less, however, than your ability to commence building it down here, your ability, in fact, to adorn it at every moment of your existence. Remember the saying 'as above, so below', and contribute to this by making 'as below, so above'. ~ Louis Claude De Saint-Martin
Melanesian Women quotes by Louis Claude De Saint-Martin
It is true that in France, women put on less things. If they have a necklace, they don't put on earrings; if they have nail polish, they don't put on all their rings and all their bracelets. ~ Ines De La Fressange
Melanesian Women quotes by Ines De La Fressange
Were men and women ever really just friends? ~ Jaycee Ford
Melanesian Women quotes by Jaycee Ford
The month of September is Women in Jazz, so I'm doing jazz there in September. I'm in for the duration. ~ Rita Coolidge
Melanesian Women quotes by Rita Coolidge
The most powerful women in Sachaka and all you do is waste time gossiping and matchmaking ~ Trudi Canavan
Melanesian Women quotes by Trudi Canavan
For the next ten years, until 1251, she and a small group of other women controlled the largest empire in world history. ~ Jack Weatherford
Melanesian Women quotes by Jack Weatherford
I'm a young woman and I'm going to write about what I know. ~ Amy Winehouse
Melanesian Women quotes by Amy Winehouse
We have enough trouble with women without giving them M16 rifles. ~ Barry Goldwater
Melanesian Women quotes by Barry Goldwater
I pored over art books and absorbed the placidness of Monet's garden, the sparkling color of the Impressionists, the strength and solidity of Michelangelo's figures showing the titanic power of humans at one with God, Jan Vermeer's serene Dutch women bathed in gorgeous honey-colored light ... My conviction grew that art was stronger than death. ~ Susan Vreeland
Melanesian Women quotes by Susan Vreeland
I think some women try to make you feel you're not all female because you haven't given birth. There are a lot of prejudices. Some women think women who have animals are deeply sad, because what they really want is a child. Mind you, there's probably an element of truth in that. ~ Alison Goldfrapp
Melanesian Women quotes by Alison Goldfrapp
Women learned one important lesson
namely, that it is impossible for the best of men to understand women's feelings or the humiliation of their position. When they asked us to be silent on our question during the War, and labor for the emancipation of the slave, we did so, and gave five years to his emancipation and enfranchisement ... I was convinced, at the time, that it was the true policy. I am now equally sure that it was a blunder. ~ Elizabeth Cady Stanton
Melanesian Women quotes by Elizabeth Cady Stanton
A fast car can make women 'like' a man; and a man 'like' women ... fast. ~ Mokokoma Mokhonoana
Melanesian Women quotes by Mokokoma Mokhonoana
Please don't forget: I am my body. When my body gets smaller, it is still me. When my body gets bigger, it is still me. There is not a thin woman inside me, awaiting excavation. I am one piece. I am also not a uterus riding around in a meat incubator. There is no substantive difference between the repulsive campaign to separate women's bodies from their reproductive systems - perpetuating the lie that abortion and birth control are not healthcare - and the repulsive campaign to convince women that they and their body size are separate, alienated entities. Both say, "Your body is not yours." Both demand, "Beg for your humanity." Both insist, "Your autonomy is conditional." This is why fat is a feminist issue. All ~ Lindy West
Melanesian Women quotes by Lindy West
Women are responsible for creating their own roles. ~ Kathleen Turner
Melanesian Women quotes by Kathleen Turner
They were interrupted as a young girl walked along the pavement in front of the sessions house, calling, "Flowers! Fresh-cut flowers!" She stopped in front of them. "Posy for the lady, sir?"
Ransom turned to the girl, who wore a colorful scarf over her long dark hair and a patchwork apron over her black dress. She carried a flat basket filled with posyes, their stems wrapped with bits of colored ribbon.
"There's no need-" Garrett began, but Ransom ignored her, browsing over the tiny bouquets of roses, narcissus, violets, forget-me-nots, and dianthus.
"How much?" he asked the flower girl.
"A farthing, sir."
He glanced at Garrett over his shoulder. "Do you like violets?"
"I do," she said hesitantly.
Ransom gave the flower-girl a sixpence and picked out one of the posyes.
"Thank you, sir!" The girl scurried away as if fearing he might change his mind.
Ransom turned to Garrett with the cluster of purple blossoms. Reaching for the lapel of her walking jacket, he deftly tucked the ribbon-wrapped stem of the posy into a buttonhole.
"Violets make an excellent blood-purifying tonic," Garrett said awkwardly, feeling the need to fill the silence. "And they're good for treating cough or fever."
The elusive dimple appeared in his cheek. "They're also becoming to green-eyed women. ~ Lisa Kleypas
Melanesian Women quotes by Lisa Kleypas
You want worship for what? For what you give? For how you treat us? For what you allow to happen? For the hatred that exists that you don't stop? For the violence that you don't stop? For the death that you don't stop? Man killing man killing women killing children that you don't stop. And you want worship? You want us on our knees? You want devotion? You want exaltation? You want faith? A crown of thorns pressed into the skull bleeding at the tips. ~ James Frey
Melanesian Women quotes by James Frey
All men burn with foolish jealousy, but women are fools to take delight in it. This world is full of fools no matter where you look. ~ Isuna Hasekura
Melanesian Women quotes by Isuna Hasekura
I wish he were better at hailing taxis than I am; on the other hand, I realize that expectation is culturally conditioned, utterly foolish, has nothing to do with anything, is exactly the kind of thinking that ought to be got rid of in our society; on still another hand, having that insight into my reaction does not seem to calm my irritation. ~ Nora Ephron
Melanesian Women quotes by Nora Ephron
Are you certain they aren't?"
Rose looked for a delicate way to put it.
"Doing the horizontal mumbo?"
Tyler laughed at the look the other two women gave her.
This was her mother, after all. "Mother spent too many years with a man who treated her like crap. She was lonely even when she wasn't alone. If Doctor Yum-Yum could coax her into bed, I'd say more power to her and way to go, Mom! ~ Mary J. Williams
Melanesian Women quotes by Mary J. Williams
One Man's Hero, Another Man's Villain..
Sometimes in the same Man.. ~ Abha Maryada Banerjee
Melanesian Women quotes by Abha Maryada Banerjee
Now women are funny animals. You never know when you are with them - they don't often know where they are with themselves . It's no good trying to find out what makes them tick. It just can't be done. They have more moods than an army of cats with lives, and all you can hope is to spot the mood you're after when it turns up and step in quick. Hesitate you're a dead duck, unless you're one of those guys who like slow approach that might get you somewhere in a week or in a month or even a year. ~ James Hadley Chase
Melanesian Women quotes by James Hadley Chase
I can easily believe it. Women of that class have great opportunities, and if they are intelligent may be well worth listening to. Such varieites of human nature as they are in the habit of witnessing! And it is not merely in its follies, that they are read; for they see it occasionally under every circumstance that can be most interesting or affecting. What instances must pass before them of ardent, disinterested, self-denying attachment, of heroism, fortitude, patience, resignation
of all the sacrifices that ennoble us most. A sick chamber may often furnish the worth of volumes. ~ Jane Austen
Melanesian Women quotes by Jane Austen
I'm for women choosing whatever they want to do but they have to really know what they are doing. ~ Alice Walker
Melanesian Women quotes by Alice Walker
Elk were mating now - The males were fighting, and they had to chase the females, which depleted the fat that both sexes had accumulated over the summer and thereby diminished their chances of surviving the winter. "It would be better for the elk," Dave said as we prepared dinner, "if the females just gave it up."
All three women stared at him. A silence ensued. Dave said, "Or I could be wrong. ~ Tim Cahill
Melanesian Women quotes by Tim Cahill
People always say that pregnant women have a glow. And I say it's because you're sweating to death. ~ Jessica Simpson
Melanesian Women quotes by Jessica Simpson
The hearts of women are like those little pieces of furniture with secret hiding - places, full of drawers fitted into each other; you go to a lot of trouble, break your nails, and in the bottom find some withered flower, a few grains of dust - or emptiness! ~ Gustave Flaubert
Melanesian Women quotes by Gustave Flaubert
The constants all through the centuries will be the same; wine, women and song. Other than that, life will be very different technologically. In the year 3000 the universe will be expanding as it will forever, infinitely. We will probe outer space but never find life as evolutionized as ours. We were not created by a deity. We created the deity in OUR image. Life began on this planet when the first amoeba split. Mankind will still be seeking God, not accepting that God is a spirit; can't see it, touch it, only feel it. It's called LOVE. ~ Phyllis Diller
Melanesian Women quotes by Phyllis Diller
When she can't bring me to heal with scolding, she bends me to shape with guilt. ~ Libba Bray
Melanesian Women quotes by Libba Bray
All were glad, the plants, the birds, the insects, and the children. But men, grown-up men and women, did not leave off cheating and tormenting themselves and each other. ~ Leo Tolstoy
Melanesian Women quotes by Leo Tolstoy
You know your all fucks! why am i so dichable? now how am i supposed to kill you with out upseting that poor nice women!? God damnit alice i liked you why did you have to be such a bitch ~ Carrie Vaughn
Melanesian Women quotes by Carrie Vaughn
Now, there is a tendency at a point like this to look over one's shoulder at the cover artist and start going on at length about leather, tightboots and naked blades.
Words like 'full', 'round' and even 'pert' creep into the narrative, until the writer has to go and have a cold shower and a lie down.
Which is all rather silly, because any woman setting out to make a living by the sword isn't about to go around looking like something off the cover of the more advanced kind of lingerie catalogue for the specialized buyer.
Oh well, all right. The point that must be made is that although Herrena the Henna-Haired Harridan would look quite stunning after a good bath, a heavy-duty manicure, and the pick of the leather racks in Woo Hun Ling's Oriental Exotica and Martial Aids on Heroes Street, she was currently quite sensibly dressed in light chain mail, soft boots, and a short sword.
All right, maybe the boots were leather. But not black. ~ Terry Pratchett
Melanesian Women quotes by Terry Pratchett
And it shall come to pass that what men made shall be shattered, and the Shadow shall lie across the Pattern of the Age, and the Dark One shall once more lay his hand upon the world of man. Women shall weep and men quail as the nations of the earth are rent like rotting cloth. Neither shall anything stand nor abide . . . Yet one shall be born to face the Shadow, born once more as he was born before and shall be born again, time without end. The Dragon shall be Reborn, and there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth at his rebirth. In sackcloth and ashes shall he clothe the people, and he shall break the world again by his coming, tearing apart all ties that bind. Like the unfettered dawn shall he blind us, and burn us, yet shall the Dragon Reborn confront the Shadow at the Last Battle, and his blood shall give us the Light. Let tears flow, O ye people of the world. Weep for your salvation. ~ Robert Jordan
Melanesian Women quotes by Robert Jordan
Most women are introspective: "Am I in love? Am I emotionally and creatively fulfilled?" Most men are outrospective: "Did my team win? How's my car?" ~ Rita Rudner
Melanesian Women quotes by Rita Rudner
Males
they've all trained against each other. They expect attacks to certain zones on their bodies and from someone who's used to relying on upper-body strength. And they always, always underestimate women. ~ Susan Ee
Melanesian Women quotes by Susan Ee
Sybil's female forebears had valiantly backed up their husbands as distant embassies were besieged, had given birth on a camel or in the shade of a stricken elephant, had handed around the little gold chocolates while trolls were trying to break into the compound, or had merely stayed at home and nursed such bits of husbands and sons as made it back from endless little wars. The result was a species of woman who, when duty called, turned into solid steel. ~ Terry Pratchett
Melanesian Women quotes by Terry Pratchett
There is always tension in women's gymnastics between athleticism, grace, performance, and eros. ~ Meghan O'Rourke
