Honest Government quotes by Thomas Jefferson
The citizens of New Hampshire expect and deserve a government as clean as our mountain streams and as open as our blue skies. Today let us pledge together to make this government - the people's government - clean, open and honest. ~ John Lynch
Honest Government quotes by John Lynch
He convinced me that if we're going to have honest government that you can't leave it up to the crooks and that honest people have to get involved in government. So I did. I got involved as a criminal prosecutor with the U. S. Justice Department. ~ Bill Scott
Honest Government quotes by Bill Scott
Taxes should be continued by annual or biennial reeactments, because a constant hold, by the nation, of the strings of the public purse is a salutary restraint from which an honest government ought not wish, nor a corrupt one to be permitted, to be free. ~ Thomas Jefferson
Honest Government quotes by Thomas Jefferson
Moral decay first hampers and then strangles honest government, regular commerce, and even the ability to take genuine pleasure in the goods of this world. Compulsion is applied from above as self-discipline relaxes below, and the last liberties expire under the weight of a unitary state ... Since religion has lost its empire over the souls of men, the most prominent boundary that divided good from evil is overthrown; kings and nations are guided by chance and none can say where are the natural limits of despotism and the bound of license. ~ Russell Kirk
Honest Government quotes by Russell Kirk
I want to assure you that working in transition period is an ungrateful job for any honest government. ~ Robert Kocharian
Honest Government quotes by Robert Kocharian
On close inspection, we shall find that religion, and not fear, has ever been the cause of the long-lived prosperity of an absolute government. ~ Alexis De Tocqueville
Honest Government quotes by Alexis De Tocqueville
But those who believe that what our people desire is big government are living in a state of delusion. ~ Marco Rubio
Honest Government quotes by Marco Rubio
We both knew that what I said was the truth, as well as being a lie. The pure and honest answer was pinging between us, hovering above the weeds. ~ Sonya Hartnett
Honest Government quotes by Sonya Hartnett
So what does that actually mean?'
'To be honest, Ghastly, I haven't a bull's notion.'
'Elder Bespoke should be addressed by his full title,' Tipstaff said.
'Of course,' Skulduggery said. 'To be honest, Your Highness, I haven't a bull's notion. ~ Derek Landy
Honest Government quotes by Derek Landy
People who are unwilling to talk about deep personal issues do not trust their own emotions. ~ David W. Earle
Honest Government quotes by David W. Earle
We print money. The people that print the money is actually us. The government of the United States of America. By its very nature, we control that, and this system is there as representation of us. ~ J. C. Chandor
Honest Government quotes by J. C. Chandor
Nothing perhaps illustrates the general disintegration of political life better than this vague, pervasive hatred of everybody and everything, without a focus for its passionate attention, with nobody to make responsible for the state of affairs - neither the government nor the bourgeoisie nor an outside power. It consequently turned in all directions, haphazardly and unpredictably, incapable of assuming an air of healthy indifference toward anything under the sun. ~ Hannah Arendt
Honest Government quotes by Hannah Arendt
It is a great privilege, as well as our responsibility, to pray for our government leaders. ~ Billy Graham
Honest Government quotes by Billy Graham
Whenever the government is involved, there is an element of coercion. ~ Dinesh D'Souza
Honest Government quotes by Dinesh D'Souza
Rand Paul and Chris Christie both said vaccinations should be a choice, not a government mandate. Because when have Republicans ever told people what they could do with their own bodies? ~ Bill Maher
Honest Government quotes by Bill Maher
You can look at the state of California, which is on a pathway to destruction because they expanded government too much, thinking that there would always be someone to pay for it. ~ Greg Abbott
Honest Government quotes by Greg Abbott
The government should stop meddling in the business of the farmers, who would actually still be living ina desert if not for government meddling. ~ Jon Stewart
Honest Government quotes by Jon Stewart
Protected businesses never, never become competitive ... Halliburton, Bechtel, Parsons, KPMG, RTI, Blackwater and all other U.S. corporations that were in Iraq to take advantage of the reconstruction were part of a vast protectionist racket whereby the U.S. government had created their markets with war, barred their competitors from even entering the race, then paid them to do the work, while guaranteeing them a profit to boot - all at taxpayer expense. ~ Naomi Klein
Honest Government quotes by Naomi Klein
Truth is awake, even when its eyes are shut. ~ Matshona Dhliwayo
Honest Government quotes by Matshona Dhliwayo
I have had many opportunities to flee HK, but I would rather stay and fight the United States government in the courts, because I have faith in Hong Kong's rule of law. ~ Edward Snowden
Honest Government quotes by Edward Snowden
We have lost contact with reality, the simplicity of life. ~ Paulo Coelho
Honest Government quotes by Paulo Coelho
Friends (at least good ones) like one another, enjoy one another's company, and maintain mutual goodwill. They help one another in times of need, listen to one another's problems, make sacrifices, and provide emotional support when necessary. They share confidences and can be trusted not to divulge important secrets. Their relationship is personal and private, and it does not answer to a higher authority. They engage in constructive conflict management, and they try to resolve differences among themselves. Friends should not go to court to resolve a dispute. Ideally, friends do not care what they get out of the relationship but value the friendship for its own sake. They are honest with one another, feel free to express themselves to one another, but do not pass judgment. Finally, unlike partners in kin or work relations, one can choose one's friends. ~ Daniel J. Hruschka
Honest Government quotes by Daniel J. Hruschka
Irene closed her book and stared at the older Van Holtz.
"I don't dislike him. But that was recent. I used to not like him but he's been very kind since I've been here. So now I like him. I'd almost say we are friendly ... but perhaps that's too big a leap at this stage."
He gave a soft laugh. "I see. Are you always this ... uh ... "
"Brutally honest?"
"I was going to say direct, but brutally honest works as well."
"Yes. I am. And I know - it's a character flaw."
"Not at all. I love honest people."
"Everyone says that ... until I say something they don't like. Then I'm a bitch. ~ Shelly Laurenston
Honest Government quotes by Shelly Laurenston
At the root of every large struggle in life is the need to be honest about something that we do not feel we can be honest about. We lie to ourselves or other people because the truth might require action on our part, and action requires courage. We say we "don't know" what is wrong, when we do know what is wrong; we just wish we didn't.
Art lets us tell the truth, but even art can be something to hide behind. ~ Deb Caletti
Honest Government quotes by Deb Caletti
And a government which cannot preserve the peace is no government at all, and in that case we pay our money for nothing; ~ Thomas Paine
Honest Government quotes by Thomas Paine
As a feminist I feel immediately guilty because everyone is trying to encourage girls into STEM subjects now, but to be honest I'm not dedicated enough to the Vagenda to force myself to become a computer programmer. ~ Laura Steven
Honest Government quotes by Laura Steven
An individualist town councillor will walk along the municipal pavement, lit by municipal gas and cleansed by municipal brooms with municipal water and - seeing by the municipal clock in the municipal market, that he is too early to meet his children coming from the municipal school, hard by the country lunatic asylum and the municipal hospital, will use the national telegraph system to tell them not to walk through the municipal park, but to come by the municipal tramway to meet him in the municipal reading-room, by the municipal museum, art-gallery, and library, where he intends ... to prepare his next speech in the municipal town hall in favor of the nationalization of canals and in increase of Government control of the railway system. "Socialism, Sir," he will say, "don't waste the time of a practical man by your fantastic absurdities. Self-help, Sir, individual self-help, that's what has made our city what it is. ~ Sidney Webb
Honest Government quotes by Sidney Webb
In many cases, the Treasury will get preferred or convertible preferred stock for the money it gives to banks. These shares typically don't have voting rights, possibly to give more of a hands-off appearance to the government. ~ Jerry A. Webman
Honest Government quotes by Jerry A. Webman
in the middle of this God-forsaken desert, the government built an oasis. The designers included rolling hills, a small river, walking trails, two small lakes, and dozens of large one and two story buildings that seemed to be part of the environment. And there was grass, lots of bright green grass right there in the middle of the desert. It was synthetic but it looked real and made the place look like a picture on a travel brochure. ~ Clint Morey
Honest Government quotes by Clint Morey
General Mario Vargas Salinas, now retired from Bolivia's Eighth Army Division, was one of the young army officers present at Guevara's burial. It was his duty to accompany an old dump truck carrying the bodies of the six dead rebels, including that of "Che" Guevara, to the airstrip in Vallegrande, Bolivia. Knowing that the facts surrounding the burials were leaking out, he decided that after 28 years the world should know what had happened to "Che" Guevara's body. At the time, Captain Vargas, who had also led the ambush in which Tamara "Tania" Bunke, Guevara's lover, was shot dead, said that Guevara was buried early on the morning of October 11th, 1967, at the end of the town's landing strip. After the gruesome facts became known, the Bolivian government ordered the army to find Guevara's remains for a proper burial.
General Gary Prado Salmón, retired, had been the commander of the unit that had captured Guevara. He confirmed General Vargas' statement and added that the guerrilla fighters had been burned, before dumping their bodies into a mass grave, dug by a bulldozer, at the end of the Vallegrande airstrip. He explained that the body of "Che" Guevara had been buried in a separate gravesite under the runway. The morning after the burials, "Che" Guevara's brother arrived in Vallegrande, hoping to see his brother's remains. Upon asking, he was told by the police that it was too late. Talking to some of the army officers, he was told lies or perhaps just differing account ~ Hank Bracker
Honest Government quotes by Hank Bracker
She just looked at me, and I wondered what on earth it was about her that made me be so honest. Like she was sick with truth, and really contagious. ~ Sarah Dessen
Honest Government quotes by Sarah Dessen
You can cheat an honest man but not make a fool out of him. ~ Confucius
Honest Government quotes by Confucius
Writing: such has been my crime ever since I was a small child. To this day writing remains my crime. Now, although I am out of prison, I continue to live inside a prison of another sort, one without steel bars. For the technology of oppression and might without justice has become more advanced, and the fetters imposed on mind and body have become invisible. The most dangerous shackles are the invisible ones, because they deceive people into believing they are free. This delusion is the new prison that people inhabit today, north and south, east and west...We inhabit the age of the technology of false consciousness, the technology of hiding truths behind amiable humanistic slogans that may change from one era to another...Democracy is not just freedom to criticize the government or head of state, or to hold parliamentary elections. True democracy obtains only when the people - women, men, young people, children - have the ability to change the system of industrial capitalism that has oppressed them since the earliest days of slavery: a system based on class division, patriarchy, and military might, a hierarchical system that subjugates people merely because they are born poor, or female, or dark-skinned. ~ Nawal El Saadawi
Honest Government quotes by Nawal El Saadawi
The Cairo conferenceis about a complicated web of education and employment, consumption and poverty, development and health care. It is also about whether governments will follow where women have so clearly led them, toward safe, simple and reliable choices in family planning. While Cairo crackles with conflict, in the homes of the world the orthodoxies have been duly heard, and roundly ignored. ~ Anna Quindlen
Honest Government quotes by Anna Quindlen
Nothing is less productive than to make more efficient what should not be done at all. ~ Peter F. Drucker
Honest Government quotes by Peter F. Drucker
I don't think I've ever been as scared in my life as I was to be extraordinarily honest with my kids. ~ Bruce Jenner
Honest Government quotes by Bruce Jenner
I can't understand what's holding up our missile program. It's the first time the government ever had trouble making the taxpayers' money go up in smoke. ~ Bob Hope
Honest Government quotes by Bob Hope
So in a sense, that little war in the Levant had a horrendous effect in terms of the stability of countries like Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Egypt, over the long term. Because once again, it proved to Muslims that their governments couldn't protect them and would side with the enemy. ~ Michael Scheuer
Honest Government quotes by Michael Scheuer
You don't have to have blind faith for anything. Blind faith leads to fanaticism. You shouldn't have blind faith at all. You have to experience, and after experiencing if you do not have faith, that means you are not honest. ~ Nirmala Srivastava
Honest Government quotes by Nirmala Srivastava
The activities of automobile manufacturers, commercial real estate developers, and the federal government have been far more important in determining patterns of transportation than consumer choice. ~ Dolores Hayden
Honest Government quotes by Dolores Hayden
Residents of my district continue to stress to me that they want health care decisions to be made by patients and doctors, not by the government and insurance companies. ~ Tim Walberg
Honest Government quotes by Tim Walberg
For an individual, one of the definitions of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again in the same way and expecting different results. For a government, such behaviour is called...policy. ~ Thomas King
Honest Government quotes by Thomas King
Storytelling awakens us to that which is real. Honest ... it transcends the individual ... Those things that are most personal are most general, and are, in turn, most trusted. Stories bind ... They are basic to who we are.
A story composite personality which grows out of its community. It maintains a stability within that community, providing common knowledge as to how things are, how things should be
knowledge based on experience. These stories become the conscience of the group. They belong to everyone. ~ Terry Tempest Williams

Honest Government quotes by Rufus Wainwright
Why does one never hear of government funding for the preservation and encouragement of comic strips, girlie magazines and TV soap operas? Because these genres still hold the audience they were created to amuse and instruct. ~ John Updike
Honest Government quotes by John Updike
