Simplicity, clarity, singleness: These are the attributes that give our lives power and vividness and joy as they are also the marks of great art. They seem to be the purpose of God for his whole creation. ~ Richard Holloway

Holloway quotes by Ian Holloway
You get to shoot things, and things blow up, and you're jumping off of buildings. It's insane! And hot girls. And you get to dress cool. And you're in a movie with Tom Cruise, come on! So it's a dream come true. Truly. ~ Josh Holloway
Holloway quotes by Josh Holloway
God is waiting eagerly to respond with new strength to each little act of self-control, small disciplines of prayer, feeble searching after him. And his children shall be filled if they will only hunger and thirst after what he offers. ~ Richard Holloway
Holloway quotes by Richard Holloway
Sometimes when you aim for the stars, you hit the moon. ~ Ian Holloway
Holloway quotes by Ian Holloway
Fresh from a costume fitting, where I had been posing in front of the mirror assuming what I thought was a strong position - arms folded, butch-looking ... you know - I met with the woman in charge of Holloway police station. She gave me the most invaluable advice: never let them see you cry, and never cross your arms. When I asked why, she said 'because it is a defensive action and therefore weak. ~ Helen Mirren
Holloway quotes by Helen Mirren
It is a harsh world, indescribably cruel. It is a gentle world, unbelievably beautiful. It is a world that can make us bitter, hateful, rabid, destroyers of joy. It is a world that can draw forth tenderness from us, as we lean towards one another over broken gates. It is a world of monsters and saints, a mutilated world, but it is the only one we have been given. We should let it shock us not into hatred or anxiety, but into unconditional love. ~ Richard Holloway
Holloway quotes by Richard Holloway
For half a century, the Sunset Strip was the asphalt timeline of American popular music. My most distinct memory, from more years ago than I'll confess to, is waiting for a table at the Olde World, which occupied a wedge of territory at Sunset and Holloway Drive, where the daiquiris became more vicious the longer you sat in the sun. ~ Steve Erickson
Holloway quotes by Steve Erickson
I wished there had been obvious signs of destruction on all of us kids: bruises or burn marks, something that indicated how violent our house was, but words and neglect don't leave visible marks. And that confuses even the person who knows better. (169) ~ Monica Holloway
Holloway quotes by Monica Holloway
Sepp Blatter and all of them lot Mr Platini I know he was a good player but he aint very good at what he does, I don't think. I think he's useless you can quote me on that. ~ Ian Holloway

I wanted to do everything. I wanted to be a pilot. I wanted to be a secret agent. I wanted to be a fireman and a doctor, all that. So I related that through movies and stuff. ~ Josh Holloway
Holloway quotes by Josh Holloway
There was a spell in the second half when I took my heart off my sleeve and put it in my mouth. ~ Ian Holloway
Holloway quotes by Ian Holloway
Knowing there is no cavalry is much better than hoping for a cavalry that never comes. I am strong because I have to be. I am the cavalry. (314) ~ Monica Holloway
Holloway quotes by Monica Holloway
Human beings do terrible things to each other and the tragic thing about it all is the way the remembrance of past hurt can rob us of our future and become the narrative of our lives. ~ Richard Holloway
Holloway quotes by Richard Holloway
That's the trouble with gathering truth. It's never neat and tidy ... ~ Emma Jane Holloway
Holloway quotes by Emma Jane Holloway
We're actually doing something scripted that's totally, you know, we kind of know what's going on, however, we're having to live life and death as the art. ~ Josh Holloway
Holloway quotes by Josh Holloway
Being Southern and being the guy I've been all my life, I've lived more on the lighter side of life. I have a dark side, but that's not where I come from. A lot of artists like to come from that. ~ Josh Holloway
Holloway quotes by Josh Holloway
They put their feelers out for all the names and then they'll cast you up to the point a name steps up, and then it doesn't matter how much they love you, there's a certain marketing value on that name, and there you go. ~ Josh Holloway
Holloway quotes by Josh Holloway
The world wasn't safe today. The truth was, this world was never safe. (19) ~ Monica Holloway
Holloway quotes by Monica Holloway
I never took you for the defender of Sunday picnics and tea at five ~ Emma Jane Holloway
Holloway quotes by Emma Jane Holloway
My memory is not as good as it used to be and it probably never was. ~ M. Ray Holloway Jr.
Holloway quotes by M. Ray Holloway Jr.
For me, the entire journey of Lost has been walking that fine line between discovering Sawyer's humanity and, yet, keeping his edge of anger and destructiveness. He's been through every situation possible, emotionally and physically. Sometimes, it's been scary to get in touch with his growth, especially his relationship with Juliet. I really thought the audience might reject the softer side of Sawyer we saw in that. As for what will happen with him and Kate, all I can say is they have a love that is undeniable, but maybe it must be denied. ~ Josh Holloway
Holloway quotes by Josh Holloway
I don't like the way they judge you," she whispered. "Especially Holloway."
"Holloway is a bitch." She gasped at the word, and he continued in her ear. "She deserves a thrashing. It's a shame that her earl is too feeble to do it."
Pleasure lanced through Penelope at the words, and she could not help her smile. "You seem to have few qualms about spanking women."
"Only those I like. ~ Sarah MacLean
Holloway quotes by Sarah MacLean
Then when Gladys Knight came in to do my songs that was the straw that broke the camel's back. ~ Brenda Holloway
Holloway quotes by Brenda Holloway
He has left nothing except for a note, which I find neatly folded under one of my sneakers.
The Story of Solomon is the only way I know how to explain.
And then, in smaller letters:
Forgive me. ~ Lauren Oliver
Holloway quotes by Lauren Oliver
My ceiling's broken, my car's got a puncture and we've just lost two matches. But I've got my health and I'll ask the big man upstairs why he didn't give us a point. ~ Ian Holloway
Holloway quotes by Ian Holloway
School did prepare a young person for life, but never in the ways parents expected. ~ Emma Jane Holloway
Holloway quotes by Emma Jane Holloway
The directors did an amazing job and Josh Holloway is just he's just shining. I think that, of the people I started working with, he's one of the people I'm most impressed with. How he's grown and learned and he's been just stunning everyone with his performances. ~ Evangeline Lilly
Holloway quotes by Evangeline Lilly
I watched Arsenal in the Champions League the other week playing some of the best football I've ever seen and yet they couldn't have scored in a brothel with two grand in their pockets! ~ Ian Holloway
Holloway quotes by Ian Holloway
Bucky's expression wasn't hostile, but it was serious. "Someday I'm going to fight and you won't be at my back."
"Nonsense. I'm your friend. Who I work for doesn't change that."
"If you leave it too long, you won't have a choice anymore. If the Steam Council turns on the people, each of us is going to have to decide where we belong."
"And you're going to play the rebel? You won't even carry a gun," Tobias snapped. "Your father may own an arms factory, but you make toys for a living."
"I don't carry a gun because I'm too good a shot," Bucky said quietly. "But when I fire, I don't miss. I never want to find you in my sights."
"It's not that simple," Tobias shot back, feeling a need for justification.
Bucky shrugged. "No, but the barons are running out of time, and that means we won't have many more chances to talk before everything falls apart. ~ Emma Jane Holloway
Holloway quotes by Emma Jane Holloway
The use of God in moral debate is so problematic as to be almost worthless. ~ Richard Holloway
Holloway quotes by Richard Holloway
It's all very well having a great pianist playing but it's no good if you haven't got anyone to get the piano on the stage in the first place, otherwise the pianist would be standing there with no bloody piano to play. ~ Ian Holloway
Holloway quotes by Ian Holloway
I was at a restaurant and I heard this little voice at a nearby table pipe up and say, 'I believe I will have the chowder.' I got up and walked out into the middle of the restaurant. There was Sterling Holloway just sitting there being Sterling Holloway. Never in a million years would I have imagined that I'd have the honor of filling his shoes. I just regret not going up to him and saying hello. ~ Jim Cummings
Holloway quotes by Jim Cummings
A meeting of the hearts of two Gemini has been known to end with explosive results, Mr Holloway. ~ (Jem) J.A. Belfield
Holloway quotes by (Jem) J.A. Belfield
Capital exists because we create it. We created it yesterday (and every day for the last two hundred years or so). If we do not create it tomorrow, it will cease to exist. Its existence depends on the constant repetition of the process of exploitation (and of all the social processes that make exploitation possible). It is not like Frankenstein's creature. It does not have an existence independent of our doing. It does not have a duration, a durable independent existence. It only appears to have a duration. The same is true of all the derivative forms of capital (state, money, etc.). The continuity of these monsters (these forms of social relations) is not something that exists independent of us: their continuity is a continuity that is constantly generated and re-generated by our doing. The fact that we have reasons for generating capital does not alter the fact that capital depends for its existence from one day to the next, from one moment to the next, on our act of creation. Capital depends upon us: that is the ray of hope in a world that seems so black. ~ John Holloway
Holloway quotes by John Holloway
Face it, George – unlike cholera, death is the only disease everyone is guaranteed to get.'

Heath nodded slowly. 'But usually only once, Hamish. Usually only once. ~ Nigel Holloway
Holloway quotes by Nigel Holloway
I've done all the dumping, which is not a good thing. It's funny, because I married someone who has always done it as well. I believe I met my match. ~ Josh Holloway
Holloway quotes by Josh Holloway
This club needs an impetus of energy - but I just feel tired to be honest. I'm worn out. ~ Ian Holloway
Holloway quotes by Ian Holloway
Everything about Brook screamed of a hidden wildness.
One I hoped nobody ever tamed. ~ J.A. Belfield
Holloway quotes by J.A. Belfield
Managing a league club is like making love to a mermaid ... you should always be aiming for a top half finish ~ Ian Holloway
Holloway quotes by Ian Holloway
I hated lying to my family.
I had no choice.
As a werewolf, the pack'd go apeshit if they found out I'd spent the last few months shagging a cat.

~Kyle Larsen ~ J.A. Belfield
Holloway quotes by J.A. Belfield
The English prison system is altogether mediaeval and outworn. In some of its details, the system has improved since they began to send the Suffragettes to Holloway. I may say that we, by our public denunciation of the system, have forced these slight improvements. ~ Emmeline Pankhurst
Holloway quotes by Emmeline Pankhurst
My whole life, I wanted to be dead, but I didn't actually do anything about it. I guess I didn't want to be dead; I wanted relief. I wanted to be happy and peaceful." "That's it," she said. "It's not about dying; it's about stopping the pain." (289) ~ Monica Holloway
Holloway quotes by Monica Holloway
You can give me a thousand reasons why not to do something, but give me one good reason why, and I'll do it. ~ Lorraine Holloway-White
Holloway quotes by Lorraine Holloway-White
We need no promise of a happy ending to justify our rejection of a world we feel to be wrong. ~ John Holloway
Holloway quotes by John Holloway
Meditation on the majestic energyof the universe should increase our love for humanity, should widen, not narrow, our hearts. ~ Richard Holloway
Holloway quotes by Richard Holloway
Well, I'm sorry you might possibly be out a bit of money, Jack," Isabel said. "Jesus, Isabel," Holloway said. He opened the door. "A bit of money? Try at least a couple billion credits. That's billion, with a b. Saying that's a bit of money is like saying a forest fire is a nice way to roast some marshmallows. ~ John Scalzi
Holloway quotes by John Scalzi
The institutions that claim to represent God, when they are not ignored altogether, are treated like other human institutions that have to earn their right to a hearing by the value of what they say, and not by virtue of who is saying it. Today, authority has to earn respect by the intrinsic value of what it says, not by the force of its imposition. ~ Richard Holloway
Holloway quotes by Richard Holloway
Success to me was getting out of that contract in one piece. ~ Brenda Holloway
Holloway quotes by Brenda Holloway
That night, JoAnn didn't want to leave, but she knew she had to go. She understood, in that quiet hour, things that only people who've walked to the edge know. Dying seemed almost compassionate - a way to escape the living hell. (283) ~ Monica Holloway
Holloway quotes by Monica Holloway
I get readings, I sometimes get five a week. You'll feel like a schizophrenic by the end of that week. I don't know who I am any more. You'll be in conversation with a friend and start spitting out dialogue. ~ Josh Holloway
Holloway quotes by Josh Holloway
Everything has taken on a strange, distant quality - the sounds of running and shouting outside get warped and weird like they're being filtered through water, and Alex looks miles away. I start to think I might be dreaming, or about to pass out.
And then I decide I'm definitely dreaming, because as I'm watching, Alex starts peeling his shirt off over his head. ~ Lauren Oliver
Holloway quotes by Lauren Oliver
Holloway Prison is a very old place, and it has the disadvantages of old places which have never known enough air and sunshine. It reeks with the odours of generations of bad ventilation, and it contrives to be at once the stuffiest and the draughtiest building I have ever been in. ~ Emmeline Pankhurst
Holloway quotes by Emmeline Pankhurst
A man was made to help support his children, which is the right and proper thing to do. A man was made to help support his children but, with a little bit o' luck, with a little bit o' luck, they'll go out and start supporting you! ~ Stanley Holloway
Holloway quotes by Stanley Holloway
Doing is inherently plural, collective, choral, communal. ~ John Holloway
Holloway quotes by John Holloway
It is a weird thing, because most people tend to get more conservative as they get older, but I find myself going the opposite way. I am sure that by the end I will be selling Marxist pamphlets on the Holloway Road. ~ Rory Bremner
Holloway quotes by Rory Bremner
When true forgiveness happens it is one of the most astonishing and liberating of the human experience. ~ Richard Holloway
Holloway quotes by Richard Holloway
I like anything that sparkles - mainly diamonds and champagne ~ Lorraine Holloway-White
Holloway quotes by Lorraine Holloway-White
after all, no longer a child and despised being treated as such. Besides, she of all people had nothing at all to fear from the Djinn. But of course, her ~ J. Kent Holloway
Holloway quotes by J. Kent Holloway
Because I have conducted my own operas and love sheep-dogs; because I generally dress in tweeds, and sometimes, at winter afternoon concerts, have even conducted in them; because I was a militant suffragette and seized a chance of beating time to The March of the Women from the window of my cell in Holloway Prison with a tooth-brush; because I have written books, spoken speeches, broadcast, and don't always make sure that my hat is on straight; for these and other equally pertinent reasons, in a certain sense I am well known. ~ Ethel Smyth
Holloway quotes by Ethel Smyth
Comradeship, dignity, amorosity, love, solidarity, fraternity, friendship, ethics: all these names stand in contrast to the commodified, monetised relations of capitalism, all describe relations developed in struggles against capitalism and which can be seen as anticipating or creating a society beyond capitalism. ~ John Holloway
Holloway quotes by John Holloway
I have three brothers and they're all into computers. They're all intellects. My mother would pay me a quarter a page to read a book and I couldn't make 50 cents. I just couldn't do it. ~ Josh Holloway
Holloway quotes by Josh Holloway
Love calls to love and my heart is your own. ~ Sterling Holloway
Holloway quotes by Sterling Holloway
Jack Byrne's Fiction House became known for its powerful, invincible female heroes. At a time when many publishers had none, Fiction House employed more than twenty women artists.46 The popularity of comics soared. Gaines, who did not tend to hire women to do anything except secretarial work, began publishing All-American Comics in 1939. That same year, Superman became the first comic-book character to have an entire comic book all to himself; he could also be heard on the radio.47 The first episode of Batman appeared in Detective Comics #27, in May 1939. Three months later, Byrne Holloway Marston, staff artist for the Marston Chronicle, drew the first installment of The Adventures of Bobby Doone. ~ Jill Lepore
Holloway quotes by Jill Lepore
I don't want a girl who's skinny and pretty. I want a girl who's full of life and sexy as hell, with hair of fire and eyes of thunder, who makes me feel like I'll go up in smoke with a single fucking taste of her lips. ~ J.A. Belfield
Holloway quotes by J.A. Belfield
Last spring I was worried about what gloves to wear. What can I do against Keating?" "Always go with the white, and stay safe." Holmes made a steeple of his fingers. "Arm yourself against every eventuality and survive. There is only one thing to do once you have such distinguished enemies. Wait and watch. And when your moment comes, you make them pay dearly. Difficult times do not last." She finished his favorite piece of advice. "Difficult, obstinate, and impertinent people do. ~ Emma Jane Holloway
Holloway quotes by Emma Jane Holloway
I don't see the problem with footballers taking their shirts off after scoring a goal? They enjoy it and the young ladies enjoy it too. I suppose that's one of the main reasons women come to football games, to see the young men take their shirts off. Of course they'd have to go and watch another game because my lads are as ugly as sin. ~ Ian Holloway
Holloway quotes by Ian Holloway
One of the most important elements in the evolution of human institutions is the emergence of the difficult customer within the system itself, the radical who starts to question its very being, the reformer who calls for changes in the way it runs. ~ Richard Holloway
Holloway quotes by Richard Holloway
As for names, we are stuck with either our father's name or our husband's, so choose the one you like the best. There's no such thing in this civilization as 'your own name ~ Sadie Holloway Marston
Holloway quotes by Sadie Holloway Marston
Better make sure you're not in my way when I go down." My eyebrow lifted as I dipped my head to his level. "You wouldn't want to get squashed. ~ J.A. Belfield
Holloway quotes by J.A. Belfield
Only then did she pause to read Juniper's card.Professor James Moriarty. She slipped it into her reticule without another thought. The name meant nothing to her, except that he looked more like a James than an Arnold. ~ Emma Jane Holloway
Holloway quotes by Emma Jane Holloway
Nonsubordination is the simple, unspectacular struggle to shape one's life. It is people's reluctance to give up the simple pleasures of life, their reluctance to become machines, the determination to forge and maintain some degree of power-to. ~ John Holloway
Holloway quotes by John Holloway
I like surprises. I like mystery. I'm not the kind of person who goes to the writer's room and goes, I need to know the whole story so I can prepare. No, don't tell me anything! ~ Josh Holloway
Holloway quotes by Josh Holloway
Either that's your mobile buzzing in your room, or there're sex toys you haven't told us about having a party in there without you."

~ Josh Larsen ~ J.A. Belfield
Holloway quotes by J.A. Belfield
If I fell into a barrel of boobs, I'd come out sucking my thumb ~ Ian Holloway
Holloway quotes by Ian Holloway
The best approach to religious codes that have become rigid and absolute is to acknowledge their arbitrariness and use them, if we use them at all, as a private discipline for ordering our own chaos. When they are proclaimed as the bearer of absolute and unchanging truth, defended in the traditional way, they enslave the human spirit rather than protect it from its own excesses. Jesus' vision burned through the external systems to the anxious human heart that lay beneath them and called for its transformation into a perfection of love. ~ Richard Holloway
Holloway quotes by Richard Holloway
You never count your chickens before they hatch. I used to keep parakeets and I never counted every egg thinking I would get all eight birds. You just hoped they came out of the nest box looking all right. I'm like a swan at the moment. I look fine on top of the water but under the water my little legs are going mad. ~ Ian Holloway
Holloway quotes by Ian Holloway
We know you are going to be enthralled by the mystery of sexuality, which is hardly surprising since it is the energy of life itself. We know it will have the power to take you over for it's own purposes, and we know you won't always be able to resist it. Try at least to think about its possible consequences. Recognise that sex has the potential to hurt and devastate, as well as the capacity to thrill. Understand that it will get all tied up with your need for consolation and acceptance. And never forget the sheer fucking insanity of it all. ~ Richard Holloway
Holloway quotes by Richard Holloway
In the papers this morning: 'Police closing in on Ian Holloway.' Sorry, it's 'Palace closing in on Ian Holloway.' ~ Alan Brazil
Holloway quotes by Alan Brazil
You're an interesting person, Jack." Sullivan said. "I wish I could figure out what you were thinging when you punched Stern and turned on Isabel."
"Well, I think that's the thing." Holloway said. "I think it's clear that sometimes I just don't think."
"I think you do." Sullivan said. "It's just you think about you first. The not thinking part comes right after that. ~ John Scalzi
Holloway quotes by John Scalzi
Your kiss thrilled me beyond imagining," he whispered. "Every night for the rest of my life, I'll dream of the afternoon in the holloway, when I was waylaid by a dark-haired beauty who devastated me with the heat of a thousand troubled stars, and left my soul in cinders. Even when I'm an old man, and my brain has fallen to wrack and ruin, I'll remember the sweet fire of your lips under mine, and I'll say to myself, 'Now, that was a kiss.'" Silver-tongued devil, Pandora thought, unable to hold back a crooked grin. ~ Lisa Kleypas
Holloway quotes by Lisa Kleypas
The real battle for Christians today is not Armageddon, it is the battle for a sensible approach to that ancient library of books we call the Bible. The Bible was written by human beings, with all the longings, prejudices and illusions that characterise us as a species. It is not an apocalyptic almanac, a mystical code book, an inerrant textbook for living. It is a compendium of a particular people's struggle with meaning; so it should encourage us to do the same in our day. ~ Richard Holloway
Holloway quotes by Richard Holloway
That night, my heart softened around Wills's autism. Clearly, Katherine had been right. I couldn't isolate him. As painful as it was to watch him paralyzed with fright, I knew that he was happier when he tried. Not showing up was admitting defeat. Admitting that he couldn't do it. Admitting that the autism was bigger than him. ~ Monica Holloway
Holloway quotes by Monica Holloway
Every dog has its day - and today is woof day! Today I just want to bark. ~ Ian Holloway
Holloway quotes by Ian Holloway
I want to stay in Hawaii a little while. I'm kind of liking it over there. ~ Josh Holloway
Holloway quotes by Josh Holloway
This quarrel over the messianic status of Jesus within first-century Judaism had profound effects on Christianity and prompted it towards a fateful turning point that switched the emphasis from following the way of Jesus to believing things about Jesus. Gradually a Christian came to be thought of not as one who lives and acts in a certain way, but as one who holds certain convictions or theories. The trouble with religious convictions or beliefs is that, since we can rarely prove or disprove them, we get anxious about them and start quarrelling with people whose convictions or theories differ from our own. ~ Richard Holloway
Holloway quotes by Richard Holloway
He left for his day at the library. Today is research day. When he got there, he went directly to the microfiche machine and began looking through the newspaper obituaries for married men who died between 1980 and 1983. Their widows would be due for a little romance by now. He stayed there for hours, searching for her. His meticulous search netted seven names that merited further investigation. If some husband died and it made the first five pages of the paper, well, that meant a definite bonus because the dead man was powerful and with power came money. Their widows made excellent prospects for his future plans. ~ Jean Holloway
Holloway quotes by Jean Holloway
My old trainer used to tell us not to blast, but to caress the ball whenever we took possession. If the ball were a woman ... she would be spending all night with Berbatov. ~ Ian Holloway
Holloway quotes by Ian Holloway
[I am] loyal, ambitious and clever. ~ Mike Holloway
Holloway quotes by Mike Holloway
Sterling Holloway, the actor who had originally voiced Pooh, decided to retire in the mid-1980s. Disney decided that they wanted to continue this character with their 'New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh' TV series. ~ Jim Cummings
Holloway quotes by Jim Cummings
I was relieved in some weird way that the accident had actually occurred. It was a physical manifestation of what had already been going on inside the car. The outside now matched the inside - damaged beyond repair. (113) ~ Monica Holloway
Holloway quotes by Monica Holloway
I was a black singer with a white voice, a perfect pop voice. ~ Brenda Holloway
Holloway quotes by Brenda Holloway
Welcome back, Jem. ~ J.A. Belfield
Holloway quotes by J.A. Belfield
To establish yourself as a leading man, you're shooting for the smallest point on the target, and you get a lot of judgment thrown at you. It takes a lot for them to get past everything and just watch your art and what you're doing. ~ Josh Holloway
Holloway quotes by Josh Holloway
I can't watch the news anymore. They have their priorities all out of whack. All I see is Natalee Holloway and Britney Spears and the war in Iraq. Where's the substantive news? Where's the Zach Braff coverage? ~ Zach Braff
Holloway quotes by Zach Braff
If people are honest with themselves when they choose a tattoo, the art will represent them better than anything that will ever come out of their mouth. The things that are most important to me are represented in the art that covers my body. My God, my family, my friends, my job, my social and historical beliefs and the aggressive or even violent nature with which I will protect all of them.....basically in that order of importance. Is it scarey or repulsive to some people? Yes. Does it change who I am? No. If anything it works as an outward conscience that will forever remind me of who I am and what is important during times of trial or long after my mind starts to fade due to old age if I'm blessed with a long life.Remove ~ Troy Holloway
Holloway quotes by Troy Holloway
I'll always be damaged in a way. I had hoped that I could completely heal those cracks, but I'm starting to think the real trick is learning to live a full life in spite of them. Cracked people are everywhere, and so I can forgive myself for being overly anxious or easily frightened. But I will no longer allow myself to be swallowed by my past. I insist on having the happiest life I can muster, and I am in control of that now. ~ Monica Holloway
