Sir Ken Robinson's 2008 talk on educational reform - entitled "Do Schools Kill Creativity?" - has now been viewed more than 4 million times. In it Robinson cites the fact that children's scores on standard tests of creativity decline as they grow older and advance through the educational system. He concludes that children start out as curious, creative individuals but are made duller by factory-style schools that spend too much time teaching children academic facts and not enough helping them express themselves. Sir Ken clearly cares greatly about the well-being of children, and he is a superb storyteller, but his arguments about creativity, though beguilingly made, are almost entirely baseless. ~ Ian Leslie
Educational Reform quotes by Ian Leslie
Educational reforms are like ripe fruit. They rarely travel well. ~ Andy Hargreaves
Educational Reform quotes by Andy Hargreaves
We came to recognize that our initial thinking about the keys to educational reform was wrong. The key variables weren't pedagogical. They weren't financial. They weren't curricular. They weren't research. They weren't any of the usual things we've always talked about as the engines of change. The variables were deeply emotional and cultural. ~ David Edward
Educational Reform quotes by David Edward
To attempt social reform, educational reform, industrial expansion, the moral improvement of the race without aiming, first and foremost, at political freedom is the very height of ignorance and futility. ~ Sri Aurobindo
Educational Reform quotes by Sri Aurobindo
Learning and education are a normal part of everyday life and do not need a vast expensive bureaucracy to force them to happen. ~ Kytka Hilmar-Jezek
Educational Reform quotes by Kytka Hilmar-Jezek
Without knowing it, I had stumbled upon one of the basic postulates of homeschooling: Anything you do with a home-schooled child outside the home can be described as a "field trip", thus rendering whatever activity you pursue a legitimate educational experience. ~ Quinn Cummings
Educational Reform quotes by Quinn Cummings
Religion can reform a person's life, but it can never transform him. Only the Holy Spirit can transform! ~ Aiden Wilson Tozer

Educational Reform quotes by Tamara Hill
The preservation of our free society in the years and decades to come will depend ultimately on whether we succeed or fail in directing the enormous power of human knowledge to the enrichment of our own lives and the shaping of a rational and civilized world order ... It is the task of education, more than any other instrument of foreign policy to help close the dangerous gap between the economic and technological interdependence of the people of the world and their psychological, political and spiritual alienation. ~ J. William Fulbright
Educational Reform quotes by J. William Fulbright
You ought to dare great things. ~ Lailah Gifty Akita
Educational Reform quotes by Lailah Gifty Akita
Think of the things killing us as a nation: narcotic drugs, brainless competition, dishonesty, greed, recreational sex, the pornography of violence, gambling, alcohol, and the worst pornography of all
lives devoted to buying things, accumulation as a philosophy
all of these are addictions of dependent personalities. That is what our brand of schooling must inevitably produce. ~ John Taylor Gatto
Educational Reform quotes by John Taylor Gatto
Like taking a breath, learning was the simple and extraordinary result of being alive. ~ Zander Sherman
Educational Reform quotes by Zander Sherman
What shapes the best in us dies when the best education dies! The best in us shall always be undermined when they that are responsible for shaping the best in us are always undermined!
I stand for a different education: a different education where students will not just learn books but life!
I stand for a different education: a different education where students will not just learn moral principles, but they shall be living examples of moral principles
I stand for a different education: a different education where students don't just understand what they learn, but practice what they learn with understanding!
I stand for a different education: a different education where students will not just learn about people of different beliefs, culture and backgrounds, but how to live with people who don't share common perspective with them and know how to show their emotions of bitterness and misunderstanding rightly!
I stand for a different education: a different education where students will be perfect ambassadors' of God on earth and live their daily lives with all due diligence!
I stand for a different education: a different education where students will understand why we all breathe the same air, sleep and wake up each day in the same manner to continue the journey of life!
I stand for a different education: a different education where students will learn with inspiration even in their desperations!
I stand for a different education: a diffe ~ Ernest Agyemang Yeboah
Educational Reform quotes by Ernest Agyemang Yeboah
The most effective kind of education is that a child should play amongst lovely things. ~ Plato
Educational Reform quotes by Plato
Educational system in America is not as good as in China. You may be an idiot. It is hard to tell with you white people. ~ Kate Danley
Educational Reform quotes by Kate Danley
Most people want to be entertained, not educated. ~ Dan Lok
Educational Reform quotes by Dan Lok
Remember that the greatest fool in the world may ask more than the wisest man can answer. ~ Bryant H. McGill
Educational Reform quotes by Bryant H. McGill
...as long as we have the choice to read what we want, I suspect Twain and Homer and the rest will always be with us. The stoutest old writers ebb and flow in popularity; tastes and political correctness and educational trends also ebb and flow, and we have a tendency to embrace the short view because it makes better news stories. So the joy of literature may not be at a high water mark right now, and yet you can walk into the Target store of your choice and pick up Catcher in the Rye. Beauty floats, I guess, along with sorrow and hope. (http://www.wab.org/events/allofroches...) ~ Leif Enger
Educational Reform quotes by Leif Enger
We absolutely need to reform the Congressional budget-writing process. ~ Patrick McHenry
Educational Reform quotes by Patrick McHenry
True health care reform cannot happen in Washington. It has to happen in our kitchens, in our homes, in our communities. All health care is personal. ~ Mehmet Oz
Educational Reform quotes by Mehmet Oz
You're children. Don't you want a home, a family?"
"With, like, vitamin-fortified cereal and educational television? ~ James Patterson
Educational Reform quotes by James Patterson
To discard what is unwanted, and to retain what is needed, is what reform means. ~ Periyar E.V. Ramasamy
Educational Reform quotes by Periyar E.V. Ramasamy
The bottom line: health care reform is about the patient, not about the physician. ~ Abraham Verghese
Educational Reform quotes by Abraham Verghese
People who pronounce themselves in favor of the method of legislative reform in place of and in contradistinction to the conquest of political power and social revolution, do not really choose a more tranquil, calmer and slower road to the same goal, but a different goal. Instead of taking a stand for the establishment of a new society they take a stand for surface modifications of the old society. . . . Our program becomes not the realization of Socialism, but the reform of capitalism not the suppression of the system of wage labor, but the diminution of exploitation, that is, the suppression of the abuses of capitalism instead of the suppression of capitalism itself. ~ Rosa Luxemburg
Educational Reform quotes by Rosa Luxemburg
We shall, as we ripen in grace, have greater sweetness towards our fellow Christians. Bitter-spirited Christians may know a great deal, but they are immature. Those who are quick to censure may be very acute in judgment, but they are as yet very immature in heart. He who grows in grace remembers that he is but dust, and he therefore does not expect his fellow Christians to be anything more; he overlooks ten thousand of their faults, because he knows his God overlooks twenty thousand in his own case. He does not expect perfection in the creature, and, therefore, he is not disappointed when he does not find it ... I know we who are young beginners in grace think ourselves qualified to reform the whole Christian church. We drag her before us, and condemn her straightway; but when our virtues become more mature, I trust we shall not be more tolerant of evil, but we shall be more tolerant of infirmity, more hopeful for the people of God, and certainly less arrogant in our criticisms. ~ Charles Haddon Spurgeon
Educational Reform quotes by Charles Haddon Spurgeon
Mankind likes to think in terms of extreme opposites. ~ John Dewey
Educational Reform quotes by John Dewey
The time to fix our broken immigration system is now ... We need stronger enforcement on the border and at the workplace ... But for reform to work, we also must respond to what pulls people to America ... Where we can reunite families, we should. Where we can bring in more foreign-born workers with the skills our economy needs, we should. ~ Barack Obama
Educational Reform quotes by Barack Obama
Schools train you to be ignorant with style [ ... ] they prepare you to be a usable victim for a military industrial complex that needs manpower. As long as you're just smart enough to do a job and just dumb enough to swallow what they feed you, you're going to be alright [ ... ] So I believe that schools mechanically and very specifically try and breed out any hint of creative thought in the kids that are coming up. ~ Frank Zappa
Educational Reform quotes by Frank Zappa
The Qur'ān began by criticizing two closely related aspects of that society: the polytheism or multiplicity of gods which was symptomatic of the segmentation of society, and the gross socioeconomic disparities that equally rested on and perpetuated a pernicious divisiveness of mankind. The two are obverse and converse of the same coin: only God can ensure the essential unity of the human race as His creation, His subjects, and those responsible finally to Him alone. The economic disparities were most persistently criticized, because they were the most difficult to remedy and were at the hear of social discord - although tribal rivalries, with their multiple entanglements of alliance, enmity, and vengeance, were no less serious, and the welding of these tribes into a political unity was an imperative need. Certain abuses of girls, orphans, and women, and the institution of slavery demanded desperate reform. ~ Fazlur Rahman
Educational Reform quotes by Fazlur Rahman
Natural ability and educational advantages do not figure as factors in this matter of prayer; but a capacity for faith, the power of a thorough consecration, the ability of self-littleness, an absolute losing of one's self in God's glory and an ever present and insatiable yearning and seeking after all the fullness of God. ~ Edward McKendree Bounds
Educational Reform quotes by Edward McKendree Bounds
Let us never lose sight of the fact that education is a preparation for life - and that preparing for life is far more than knowing how to make a living or how to land on the moon. Preparing for life means building personal integrity, developing a sound sense of values, increasing the capacity and willingness to serve. Education must have its roots in moral principles. If we lose sight of that fact in our attempt to match our educational system against that of the materialists, we shall have lost far more than we could possibly gain. ~ Ezra Taft Benson
Educational Reform quotes by Ezra Taft Benson
There is, in fact, no teaching without learning. ~ Paulo Freire
Educational Reform quotes by Paulo Freire
My life seems to be an increasing revelation of the intimate face of universal struggle. You begin with your family and the kids on the block, and next you open your eyes to what you call your people and that leads you into land reform into Black English into Angola leads you back into your own bed where you lie by yourself, wondering if you deserve to be peaceful, or trusted or desired or left to the freedom of your own unfaltering heart. And the scale shrinks to the size of a skull: your own interior cage. ~ June Jordan
Educational Reform quotes by June Jordan
If you lie to yourself, you become your worst enemy, attacking from inside. (from The Amazing You movie) ~ Dragos Bratasanu
Educational Reform quotes by Dragos Bratasanu
Much of the way food has been shaped and formed in prisons is due to the cultural thought about prisoners in general, and how they should be treated by society and by the state. Food in prison is a reflection of culture and cultural thinking about criminal justice and reform. ~ Erika Camplin
Educational Reform quotes by Erika Camplin
Punishment is not for revenge, but to lessen crime and reform the criminal. ~ Elizabeth Fry
Educational Reform quotes by Elizabeth Fry
I definitely want to make it very clear to everybody that the educational institution that we have, the school that Will and I have, is not a Scientology school. And that, you know, I know there's been, you know, a lot of buzz around that idea and that it is not my desire to, you know, teach Scientology at all. ~ Jada Pinkett Smith
Educational Reform quotes by Jada Pinkett Smith
What are we having this liberty for? We are having this liberty in order to reform our social system, which is full of inequality, discrimination and other things, which conflict with our fundamental rights. ~ B.R. Ambedkar
Educational Reform quotes by B.R. Ambedkar
School improvement is not a mystery. Incremental, even dramatic improvement is not only possible but probable under the right conditions. ~ Michael J. Schmoker
Educational Reform quotes by Michael J. Schmoker
Read and search for the answers you seek. ~ Lailah Gifty Akita
Educational Reform quotes by Lailah Gifty Akita
My father was a schoolteacher, and so I had the advantage of both western educational instruction in the school, as well as what you might call the process of imbibing the traditional processes of education instruction around me. ~ Wole Soyinka
Educational Reform quotes by Wole Soyinka
How happy I might be, if only she was less greedy, better tempered, not addicted to raking up old grudges, more affectionate, with slightly yellower hair, slimmer, and about twenty years younger! But what is the good of expecting such a woman to reform? ~ John Collier
Educational Reform quotes by John Collier
I want to, first of all, remove a very major error that exists in the study of Rumi today not only in America but also among a lot of Persians, Turks and others who consider Rumi only as a kind of nationalistic emblem. Rumi was a Muslim, he was a Muslim poet. He never missed his prayers. He said, (عَقل قربان کُن بہ پیش مصطفیٰ) "Sacrifice your intellect at the feet of the Prophet." Masnavi is a commentary to the Qur'an. He knew the Qur'an extremely well. At the beginning of the Masvani, he says this remarkable sentence, (این کتاب اصول اصول اصول دین) "The book is the principle of the principle of the principle of religion [in respect of its unveiling the mysteries of attainment to the Truth and of certainty]." So it is very very clear that this book is dealing with the heart of the religion. There is no secular Rumi which is authentic. Rumi cannot be secularized … In order to understand Rumi you have to understand that he was not a New Age Poet. He was not born in California. He does not represent what [some of us] are looking for; a kind of bland, sentimental, universality in which you do not do anything for God, you don't have to reform yourself, you just get together and be happy. He is not that kind of a poet, you must understand that. The relation of Rumi with Islam once severed will make Rumi irrelevant as a spiritual therapist … Anyway, it is very very important to realize that all the message of Rumi, everything he wrote is just in order for us to remember God.

If we were meant to talk more than listen, we would have two mouths and one ear. ~ Mark Twain
