Kiara shook her head at his dry wit that he delivered in a perfect deadpan monotone. He was strangely entertaining in a lethal, 'I'll rip out your heat and eat it' kind of way. ~ Sherrilyn Kenyon
Dry Wit quotes by Sherrilyn Kenyon
I like a very dry wit, not the big kind of humor like Robin Williams. I don't think I'm capable of that. ~ Chris Cooper
Dry Wit quotes by Chris Cooper
With impeccable prose, dry wit, and uncommon wisdom, Ted Thompson brings to life one family's painful disappointments and powerful resilience. The Land of Steady Habits combines Austen's shrewd mastery of domestic economics with Updike's compassion for the melancholy commuter to make something elegant, fresh, and brilliant. ~ Maggie Shipstead
Dry Wit quotes by Maggie Shipstead
Word from the outside, whether it arrived in a mail sack or a news report, seldom overshadowed the facts of our lives. We talked in facts -- work and weather, the logistics of this fence, that field -- but stories were how we spoke. A good story rose to the surface of a conversation like heavy cream, a thing to be savored and served artfully. Stored in dry wit, wrapped in dark humor, tied together with strings of anecdote, these stories told the chronology of a family, the history of a piece of land, the hardships of a certain year or a span of years, a series of events that led without pause to the present. If the stories were recent, they filtered through the door to my room late at night, voices hushed around the kitchen table as they sorted out this day and held it against others, their laughter sharp and sad and slow to come. Time was the key. Remember the time...and something in the air caught like a whisper. Back when. Back before a summer too fresh and real to talk about, a year's work stripped in a twenty-minute hailstorm; a man's right hand mangled in the belts of a combine, first day of harvest; an only son buried alive in a grain bin, suffocated in a red avalanche of wheat. ~ Judy Blunt
Dry Wit quotes by Judy Blunt
But it appeared that the motivation for the project was a newspaper article titled 'Research Proves Kids Need a Mom and a Dad.' Someone had written the word 'crap' in red beside the article. It was an excellent start. Scientists need to cultivate a suspicious attitude to research. ~ Graeme Simsion
Dry Wit quotes by Graeme Simsion
Americans just don't understand dry wit. ~ John Oliver
Dry Wit quotes by John Oliver
The [living] room was as intimate as an operating room but not as welcoming. ~ Robert B. Parker
Dry Wit quotes by Robert B. Parker
He had three
incision sites: one where the microscopic camera had gone in and
two where they'd done the actual work, and the abuse he'd taken
today went straight to her heart. "Oh, Pace."
"I'm guessing that wasn't an 'Oh, Pace, you're so sexy, take me.' ~ Jill Shalvis
Dry Wit quotes by Jill Shalvis
Krebs, who knew some Russian and at one stage in his career had been embraced by Stalin, was "a smooth, surviving type." And so, with almost incredible effrontery, he tried to talk to Chuikov as an equal, opening the conversation with the general comment:
"Today is the first of May, a great holiday for our two nations ... "
With seven million Russian dead, half his country devastated, and fresh evidence mounting daily of the unspeakable barbarity with which the Germans had treated Soviet captives and civilians, Chuikov's answer was a model of restraint, a standing testimony to the cool head and dry wit of that remarkable man. He said:
"We have a great holiday today. How things are with you over there it is less easy to say. ~ Alan Clark
Dry Wit quotes by Alan Clark
There are four on whose pots the Holy One, blessed he, knocked, only to find them filled with piss, and these are they: Adam, Cain, the wicked Balaam, and Hezekiah.
Again, an abrupt transposition from the divine to the domestic, from upper to lowly spheres, occurs in the midrash. The homely image of the Holy One knocking on pots apparently derives from the practice of tapping on a clay or earthen pot to hear its ring in order to decide if it is worthy of holding wine. In current Hebrew usage, the expression 'to assess or gauge someone's pot' still denotes taking in the measure of a person's character. From Adam's answer to God, we learn that he turned out to be a pisspot. ~ Shuli Barzilai
Dry Wit quotes by Shuli Barzilai
The mother was holding a baby, had a stroller with what looked like twin girls around three, and had a five-year-old boy who was running around the shelves with a finger shoved up his nose. I considered warning him that if he fell, he would poke his brain out, but it struck me that losing intelligence was not something he was worried about. ~ Eileen Cook
Dry Wit quotes by Eileen Cook
Most of you Mistborn are probably too proud to crawl. I'm surprised you were willing to do so yourself."
"Too proud to crawl?" Kelsier said. "Nosense! Why, I'd say that we Mistborn are too proud not to be humble enough to go crawling about--in a dignified manner, of course."
Dockson frowned, approaching the desk. "Kell, that didn't make any sense."
"We Mistborn need not make sense. ~ Brandon Sanderson
Dry Wit quotes by Brandon Sanderson
In the Ferrari or Jaguar, switchin' four lanes
Wit' the top down screaming out money ain't a thang ~ Jermaine Dupri
Dry Wit quotes by Jermaine Dupri
CELIA: For since the little wit that fools have was silenced, the little foolery that wise men have makes great a show. ~ William Shakespeare
Dry Wit quotes by William Shakespeare
The devolution of American culture takes another great step forward ~ Michael Chabon
Dry Wit quotes by Michael Chabon
The coincidences turn up down to the smallest details. There is, for instance, a character who has covered the mirrors with handkerchiefs. Apparently this happens somewhere in Ulysses, too. And they said, Ah! This is where he got that. Where I got it was when I was in a hotel in Panama and I had washed my handkerchiefs and spread them on the windows and the mirrors to dry - they almost look pressed when they're peeled away that way - a Panamanian friend came in and said, "All the mirrors are covered. Who's dead? What's happened?" I said, "No, I'm just drying my handkerchiefs." Then I found the same incident in McTeague in what? 1903 or 1905, whenever McTeague was written. This always strikes me as dangerous - finding "sources. ~ William Gaddis
Dry Wit quotes by William Gaddis
Is what true?" I replied. I drew out the words.
Only the sounds of the horses' hooves striking the dry, packed ground sounded until Hulda finished, "The more powers a sorcerer has - " She surveyed her audience. " - the better the sex."
Stunned silence and gaping mouths greeted her delivery. ~ L.R.W. Lee
Dry Wit quotes by L.R.W. Lee
Why was I chosen?'
'Such questions cannot be answered,' said Gandalf. 'You may be sure that it was not for any merit that others do not possess. But you have been chosen, and you must therefore use such strength and heart and wits as you have. ~ J.R.R. Tolkien
Dry Wit quotes by J.R.R. Tolkien
My hair is not really white; it's kind of grayish, and I don't like the color. So I make it totally white with Klorane dry shampoo. That is the best thing to do because my hair is always clean. ~ Karl Lagerfeld
Dry Wit quotes by Karl Lagerfeld
An aphrodisiac will disappear,
delusional, like permanence or wealth -
a shimmering, as if love were a ghost -
and yet my passion for you seethes and sears
without an end. Late April leaves can't crave
caress of dew, sunlight's sweet splash, more than
I pine for your embrace, us turned to one;
when harsh reversals scar, the thought of you will salve
like summer wind in autumn; deep red blood
surging along with mine, staid genes worked hot
from your electric charms, as all my moods
succumb to your sweet fire, and perfect wit.
Now you are all I live for - loving you -
in fleeting world of lies, you are the truth. ~ Lauren Lipton
Dry Wit quotes by Lauren Lipton
If he could get the idea of paper money past them then he was home and, if not dry, then at least merely Moist. ~ Terry Pratchett
Dry Wit quotes by Terry Pratchett
Inner resources are like natural resources; they both dry up eventually when the demands on them are heavy. ~ Sheila Ballantyne
Dry Wit quotes by Sheila Ballantyne
Have you ever noticed how good things go to those who hate? ~ Sol Luckman
Dry Wit quotes by Sol Luckman
A central principle underlying Mrs Quinty's Rules for Writing is that you have to have a Beginning Middle and End. If you don't have these your Reader is lost. But what if Lost is exactly where the writer is? I asked her. Ruth, the writer can't be lost, she said, and then knew she'd said it too quickly and bit her lip knowing I was going to say something about Dad. She pressed her knees together and diverted into a fit of dry coughing. This, Dear Reader, is a river narrative. My chosen style is The Meander. I know that in The Brothers Karamazov (Book 1,777, Penguin Classics, London) Ippolit Kirillovich chose the historical form of narration because Dostoevsky says it checked his own exuberant rhetoric. Beginnings middles and ends force you into that place where you have to Stick to the Story as Maeve Mulvey said the night the Junior Certs were supposed to be going to the cinema in Ennis but were buying cans in Dunnes and drinking ~ Niall Williams
Dry Wit quotes by Niall Williams
Dad lost his job. Then he got a new job. Then he got his old job back and went back to it. They were all in the same building. ~ Aimee Bender
Dry Wit quotes by Aimee Bender
I can paint until I'm forty. After that I intend to dry up. ~ Henri De Toulouse-Lautrec
Dry Wit quotes by Henri De Toulouse-Lautrec
Don't be a scaredy-human," called Emerald. "Gran-Doyen says I can't burn you up, so I won't." Then under her breath, she added, "Though accidents do happen." (Emerald to Ethan) ~ Jackie Castle
Dry Wit quotes by Jackie Castle
As a matter of fact, with all his wit, humor, raillery, persiflage, he was the profoundest logician that ever appealed to the intellect of an American audience. There was logic even in his laughter. He passed the cup of mirth, and in its sparkling foam were found the gems of unanswerable truth.

{Kittredge on the great Robert Ingersoll} ~ Herman E. Kittredge
Dry Wit quotes by Herman E. Kittredge
The Cardinal is at his wit's end - it is true that he had not far to go. ~ Lord Byron
Dry Wit quotes by Lord Byron
It's amazing how quickly something gets written. Now, when it comes, it can be on a bus, or in a store. I've stopped in Macy's and written on a dry-goods counter and then suddenly had a whole piece of writing for myself that was accomplished, where earlier in my life I felt I had to spend a week in a house somewhere in the country in order to get that. Conditions change. ~ William Goyen
Dry Wit quotes by William Goyen
A dry period for me means perhaps going two or three nights without writing. I probably have dry periods but I'm not aware of them and I go on writing, only the writing probably isn't much good. ~ Charles Bukowski
Dry Wit quotes by Charles Bukowski
The Americans just have a great sort of wit about them. ~ Peter Capaldi
Dry Wit quotes by Peter Capaldi
Nothing quenches the thirst like a wheat beer, or sharpens the appetite like an India pale ale. Nothing goes as well with seafood as a dry porter or stout, or accompanies chocolate like an imperial stout. Nothing soothes like a barleywine. These are just a few of the specialty styles of beer. ~ Michael Jackson
Dry Wit quotes by Michael Jackson
This guy named Ian that I met at school. He wants to go to the DMV with me."
She hands me a plate to dry. "Well, there's true love."
I snort. ~ Carrie Jones
Dry Wit quotes by Carrie Jones
It seems to me like Mother Nature's mercy and forgiveness have run dry, as we ceaselessly abuse her and take her for granted in order for us to continue our addiction to using fossil fuels. I've gotta say, I don't blame her. Not one bit. ~ Gloria Reuben
Dry Wit quotes by Gloria Reuben
A true lady should have the wit and the imagination, or at least the very restraint, to express herself without resorting herself to such base vocabulary. ~ Ari Marmell
Dry Wit quotes by Ari Marmell
Don't mess this up. "So, uh, I would hate if you reached into my pocket." There was a suspended beat of silence. Then a dry, "I don't think so." "I don't have a present for you." Interest lit her dark eyes, but she remained still. Even suspicious. "The present wouldn't happen to be a hard cock, would it? Because if it is, I would have to return it. Minus a few inches." His ~ Gena Showalter
Dry Wit quotes by Gena Showalter
Every habit makes our hand more witty, and out wit more handy. ~ Friedrich Nietzsche
Dry Wit quotes by Friedrich Nietzsche
When your children shall ask their fathers in time to come, saying, What mean these stones? 22 Then ye shall let your children know, saying, Israel came over this Jordan on dry land. 23 For the LORD your God dried up the waters of Jordan from before you, until ye were passed over, as the LORD your God did to the Red sea, which he dried up from before us, until we were gone over: 24 that all the people of the earth might know the hand of the LORD, that it is mighty: that ye might fear the LORD your God for ever. ~ Anonymous
Dry Wit quotes by Anonymous
Some dry leaf blows into a campfire well-stoked and drawing well. What follows? That leaf catches at once, swiftly is consumed, a shadow withering briefly in the fierce light, and thereafter little remains, not cinder and ash so much as smudges of char. ~ Kai Ashante Wilson
Dry Wit quotes by Kai Ashante Wilson
But let me just say that talking dirty is so important in sex. And it's pretty easy. To wit: establish from the very beginning that you like this. And trust me, you want to do it early on. Because if you wait too long to introduce the concept, your Special Lady Friend will be a little thrown and might not take you seriously. Think of it as a hat. If you never, ever wear a hat and one day you try to rock a fedora with a feather, all of your friends will be like, "Dude - why are you wearing a fucking fedora with a fucking feather?" You'll feel insecure and never wear it again. Now imagine that scenario, but in bed with your hardened dick out and it's your girlfriend saying, "Dude - why the fuck are you talking like that?" Not good. ~ Olivia Munn
Dry Wit quotes by Olivia Munn
To proportion the eagerness of contest to its importance seems too hard a task for human wisdom. The pride of wit has kept ages busy in the discussion of useless questions, and the pride of power has destroyed armies, to gain or to keep unprofitable possessions. ~ Samuel Johnson
Dry Wit quotes by Samuel Johnson
Reply to wit with gravity, and to gravity with wit. ~ Charles Caleb Colton
Dry Wit quotes by Charles Caleb Colton
He could have set fire to it, the garden was dry enough, and burned it clean - privet, vines, and weeds; but he waited in his rooms through the winter instead, weeping and dreaming. ~ William H Gass
Dry Wit quotes by William H Gass
There's a hell of a distance between wise-cracking and wit. Wit has truth in it; wise-cracking is simply calisthenics with words.
[Interview, The Paris Review, Summer 1956] ~ Dorothy Parker

Add shrimp and lobster to the risotto pan. Fold in. Season to taste. ~ Christina Baker Kline
Dry Wit quotes by Christina Baker Kline
I have ever thought so superstitiously of wit, that I fear I have committed idolatry against wisdom. ~ John Lyly
Dry Wit quotes by John Lyly
Do not speak before your master, whose wit is greater than yours. And ~ J.R.R. Tolkien
Dry Wit quotes by J.R.R. Tolkien
You see, Halia felt her mind run dry in such a place; she saw the world for what it truly was: destructive. She noticed the way people lived, that some of them only got out of bed in the morning simply because they hadn't died in their sleep, and she knew that she wanted to wake up every day to a life that held so much more. ~ Bree Lenehan
Dry Wit quotes by Bree Lenehan
The damaging part of learning to live your life in two parts , whether in reality or fantasy, cannot be underestimated. It is an infectious skill that you learned, one that would eventually spread beyond the bedroom of your life. Life wasn't ever what it seemed on the surface. Nothing could be trusted for what it appeared to be. After all, you weren't what you appeared to be. In learning to hide part of yourself, you lost the ability to trust anything or anyone fully. Without knowing it, you traded humane innocence for dry cynicism. ~ Alan Downs
