I love being white. Seriously, I really do. If you're not white, your missing out. 'Cuz this shit is thoroughly good. Let me clear this up by the way: I'm not saying white people are better. I'm saying that BEING white is clearly better. Who could even argue? If it was an option I would re-up every year! 'Oh yeah, I'll take white again. Absolutely.' Here's how great it is to be white: if I would have a time machine I could go to any time and it would be awesome when I get there! That is exclusively a white privilege! Black people can't fuck with time machines! . ~ Louis C.K.
Time Machines quotes by Louis C.K.
Have you ever listened to a song from a long time ago; from your past; a song that was filled with so many memories tied to it, that you felt it so deeply- that it made you cry?

And did you listen to it again, intentionally, for a second time? So you could travel back in time through that song; back when everything seemed so much simpler, basic, carefree?

Those are the songs that are the soundtracks of our lives… the ones that bring back childhood memories, deep feelings, snapshots of our lives (or short videos), best friends, first loves, first heartbreaks… births, deaths.

Our lives are like the record albums that we used to play just a few years ago; just yesterday. We played some of the songs over and over again- to the point of which we can sing along with every word as we play it.

Other songs seem somewhat unfamiliar, as we rarely go back to listen to them; we skip over them or we barely listen to the start of it before we turn off the record player. But just like on a record album and just like in our memories, you can't cut a song out off an album... just like you can't cut out a memory.

The songs and memories remain there, side by side; the good ones, the bad ones, the ones that thrill us and the ones that hurt.

Those are the songs that our lives are composed of. Those are the songs that we chase back, back into our our own memories in our private and personal musical time machines. ~ Jose N Harris
Time Machines quotes by Jose N Harris
The immense distances to the stars and the galaxies mean that we see everything ins pace int he past, some as they were before the Earth came to be. Telescopes are time machines. ~ Carl Sagan
Time Machines quotes by Carl Sagan
When you look out in space, you're looking back into time. The farther across space you look, the further back in time you see. This means the telescopes and instruments we use to study the cosmos are really time machines. ~ Carolyn Collins Petersen
Time Machines quotes by Carolyn Collins Petersen
We all have time machines. Some take us back, they're called memories. Others take us forward, they're called dreams. - Unknown ~ Aleatha Romig
Time Machines quotes by Aleatha Romig
Who said time machines haven't been built yet? They already exist. They're called books ~ Robert Benchley
Time Machines quotes by Robert Benchley
When you look at the stars..
your eyes are time machines ~ Waqas Rabbani

(this book is for those who know this to be true) ~ Jen Campbell
Time Machines quotes by Jen Campbell
That's what songs are, right? They are little time machines that transport us to a moment that you cannot forget. ~ S.M. Bailey
Time Machines quotes by S.M. Bailey
When I was a boy in the midwest I used to go out and look at the stars at night and wonder about them.

I guess every boy does that.

When I wasn't looking at the stars, I was running in the my old or my brand-new tennis shoes, on my way to swing in a tree, swim in a lake, or delve in the town library to read about dinosaurs or time machines.

I guess every boy has done that, too.

This is a book about those stars and those tennis shoes. Mainly about the stars, beacuse that is the way I grew up, getting more and more involved with rockets and space as I moved toward my twelfth, thirteenth, and fourteenth years.

Not that I have forgotten the tennis shoes and their powerful magic, as you will see in the last story here, which I have included not because it concerns the future, but because it gives you some sort of idea of the kind of boy I was when I was looking at the stars and thinking of the years ahead.

Nor have I forgetten the dinosaurs that all boys love; they are here, too, along with a machine that travels back in time to step on a butterfly.

This is a book then by a boy who grew up in a small illinois town and lived to see the space age arrive, as he hoped and dreamt it would.

I dedicate these stories to all boys who wonder about the past, run swiftly in the present, and have high hopes for our future.

The stars are yours, if you have the head, the hands, and the heart for th ~ Ray Bradbury
Time Machines quotes by Ray Bradbury
Sci-fi uses the images that sf - starting with H.G. Wells - made familiar: space travel, aliens, galactic wars and federations, time machines, et cetera, taking them literally, not caring if they are possible or even plausible. It has no interest in or relation to real science or technology. It's fantasy in space suits. Spectacle. Wizards with lasers. Kids with ray guns. I've written both, but I have to say I respect science fiction enough that I wince when people call it sci-fi. ~ Ursula K. Le Guin
Time Machines quotes by Ursula K. Le Guin
Nowadays we voyage through time so easily and so well, in our dreams and in our art. Time travel feels like an ancient tradition, rooted in old mythologies, old as gods and dragons. It isn't. Though the ancients imagined immortality and rebirth and lands of the dead time machines were beyond their ken. Time travel is a fantasy of the modern era. When Wells in his lamp-lit room imagined a time machine, he also invented a new mode of thought. ~ James Gleick
Time Machines quotes by James Gleick
Everyone has a time machine. Everyone *is* a time machine. It's just that most people's time machines are broken. The strangest and hardest kind of time travel is the unaided kind. People get stuck, people get looped. People get trapped. But we are all time machines. ~ Charles Yu
Time Machines quotes by Charles Yu
As soon as an Analytical Engine exists, it will necessarily guide the future course of the science. Whenever any result is sought by its aid, the question will then arise - by what course of calculation can these results be arrived at by the machine in the shortest time? ~ Charles Babbage
Time Machines quotes by Charles Babbage
Now I fix time machines for a living. To be more specific, I am a certified network technician for T-Class personal-use chronogrammatical vehicles, and an approved independent affiliate contractor for Time Warner Time, which owns and operates this universe as a spatio-temporal structure and entertainment complex zoned for retail, commercial, and residential use. ~ Charles Yu
Time Machines quotes by Charles Yu
DESPITE THE INVENTION OF TIME MACHINES, WE KEEP BEING LINEAR. ~ Amy King
Time Machines quotes by Amy King
STUDYING TIME MACHINES IN FLATLAND ~ Sean Carroll
Time Machines quotes by Sean Carroll
Read a verse of Homer and you can walk the walls of Troy alongside Hector; fall into a paragraph by Fitzgerald and your Now entangles with Gatsby's Now; open a 1953 book by Ray Bradbury and go hunting T. rexes. Ursula Le Guin said: "Story is our only boat for sailing on the river of time," and she's right, of course. The shelves of every library in the world brim with time machines. Step into one, and off you go. ~ Anthony Doerr
Time Machines quotes by Anthony Doerr
We've always used stories as a way to pass on our history, as a way to explain things in life that we don't understand. We use them to make us feel connected to everything around us, and to help us escape to another time or place.
Bookshops across the world are full of these stories.
From travelling booksellers and undercover bookshops, to pop-up stalls and community hubs, walking into a good bookshop is like walking into another zone. These places are time machines, spaceships, story-makers, secret-keepers. They are dragon-tamers, dream-catchers, fact-finders and safe places. They are full of infinite possibilities, and tales worth taking home.
Because whether we're in the middle of the desert or in the heart of a city, on the top of a mountain or on an underground train: having good stories to keep us company can mean the whole world. ~ Jen Campbell
Time Machines quotes by Jen Campbell
If you have a wormhole, then you can turn them into time machines for going backward in time. ~ Kip Thorne
Time Machines quotes by Kip Thorne
Long live transfinite mountains, the hollow earth, time machines, fractal writing, aliens, dada, telepathy, flying saucers, warped space, teleportation, artificial reality, robots, pod people, hylozoism, endless shrinking, intelligent goo, antigravity, surrealism, software highs, two-dimensional time, gnarly computation, the art of photo composition, pleasure zappers, nanomachines, mind viruses, hyperspace, monsters from the deep and, of course, always and forever, the attack of the giant ants! ~ Rudy Rucker
Time Machines quotes by Rudy Rucker
In this universe there are no time machines or keys that can turn hearts back around. ~ Sarah Tregay
Time Machines quotes by Sarah Tregay
I expressed skepticism, in the first chapter, about the utility of time machines in historical research. I especially advised against graduate students relying on them, because of the limited perspective you tend to get from being plunked down in some particular part of the past, and the danger of not getting back in time for your orals. ~ John Lewis Gaddis
Time Machines quotes by John Lewis Gaddis
Programmer time is expensive; conserve it in preference to machine time ~ Eric S. Raymond
Time Machines quotes by Eric S. Raymond
People say time machines don't exist, but they do. They're your friends, and being around them takes you right back to that place in time you had long since put away. ~ S.M. Reine
Time Machines quotes by S.M. Reine
Belbroughton Road, Linton Road, Bardwell Road. The houses there are quite normal. They are ordinary sizes and have ordinary chimneys and roofs and gardens with laburnum and flowering cherry. Park Town. As you go south they are growing. Getting higher and odder. By the time you get to Norham Gardens they have tottered over the edge into madness: these are not houses but flights of fancy. They are three storeys high and disguise themselves as churches. They have ecclesiastical porches instead of front doors and round norman windows or pointed gothic ones, neatly grouped in threes with flaring brick to set them off. They reek of hymns and the Empire, Mafeking and the Khyber Pass, Mr Gladstone and Our Dear Queen. They have nineteen rooms and half a dozen chimneys and iron fire-escapes. A bomb couldn't blow them up and the privet in their gardens has survived two World Wars. ~ Penelope Lively
Time Machines quotes by Penelope Lively
Courage
It is in the small things we see it.
The child's first step,
as awesome as an earthquake.
The first time you rode a bike,
wallowing up the sidewalk.
The first spanking when your heart
went on a journey all alone.
When they called you crybaby
or poor or fatty or crazy
and made you into an alien,
you drank their acid
and concealed it.

Later,
if you faced the death of bombs and bullets
you did not do it with a banner,
you did it with only a hat to
cover your heart.
You did not fondle the weakness inside you
though it was there.
Your courage was a small coal
that you kept swallowing.
If your buddy saved you
and died himself in so doing,
then his courage was not courage,
it was love; love as simple as shaving soap. ~ Anne Sexton
Time Machines quotes by Anne Sexton
You never know beforehand what people are capable of, you have to wait, give it time, it's time that rules, time is our gambling partner on the other side of the table and it holds all the cards of the deck in its hand, we have to guess the winning cards of life, our lives. ~ Jose Saramago
Time Machines quotes by Jose Saramago
I think more obvious to others, is that I'm most vulnerable on stage. Even though I know which songs I'm going to play, I try and keep it loose and base my stage time more on what the audience is requesting of me. ~ Jason Mraz
Time Machines quotes by Jason Mraz
What he did instead was clean his shelter. He had been sleeping on the foam pad that had come with the survival pack and he straightened everything up and hung his bag out in the sun to air-dry and then used the hatchet to cut the ends of new evergreen boughs and laid them like a carpet in the shelter. As soon as he brought the boughs inside and the heat from the fire warmed them they gave off the most wonderful smell, filled the whole shelter with the odor of spring, and he brought the bag back inside and spread the pad and bag and felt as if he were in a new home. The berries boiled first and he added snow water to them and kept them boiling until he had a kind of mush in the pan. By that time the meat had cooked and he set it off to the side and tasted the berry ~ Gary Paulsen
Time Machines quotes by Gary Paulsen
I love you," I say. I say it because I mean it right now, but I also say it for every single time I couldn't say it then. ~ Taylor Jenkins Reid
Time Machines quotes by Taylor Jenkins Reid
I think the biggest faults that bands tend to have in terms of drama or breaking up is bands don't learn people's personalities. When you spend as much time with people obviously it's going to rub off, and you are going to get to know the way people are. You can make sure day to day people are accommodated to and people feel positive about the experience, then you can stay together as a band, at least that is my opinion. ~ Andy Biersack
Time Machines quotes by Andy Biersack
I have nothing but time. To choose, to heal. To live. ~ Victoria Aveyard
Time Machines quotes by Victoria Aveyard
Justice Denied
Thousands of women, probably more
I cannot reach them behind justice doors
Many stay silent, barred just like me.
Haunted by demons, faces unseen.
Still by the hundreds, they continue to serve
Duty and country, active and reserve.
Thankless, forgotten through America's wars
Scarred like their brethren, treated as foes.
Volunteered to go to the shores.
Died like the others, shamed to the core.
Where is the dignity, long since denied?
Lost in the White House of Justice Denied
Women in service since beginning of time
Often they're treated like victims in crime.
Where is their voice, silence throughout the years?
It's dead in the Senate and House, with their tears! ~ Diane Chamberlain
Time Machines quotes by Diane Chamberlain
The artist must be blind to "recognized" and "unrecognized" form, deaf to the teachings and desires of his time. His open eyes must be directed to his inner life and his ears must be constantly attuned to the voice of inner necessity. ~ Wassily Kandinsky
Time Machines quotes by Wassily Kandinsky
Seven years is a short time in the history of a country's democracy. But in this short time, people of Bhutan have developed faith in the institutions of democracy. ~ Narendra Modi
Time Machines quotes by Narendra Modi
I loved Frank," I said quietly, not looking at Bree. "I loved him a lot. But by that time, Jamie was my heart and the breath of my body. ~ Diana Gabaldon
Time Machines quotes by Diana Gabaldon
Language changes and moves in a different direction evolving all the time. Where a lot of people see deterioration, I see expressive development ~ David Crystal
Time Machines quotes by David Crystal
Everyone is lonely, we have to remember that life is to be lived one day at a time. You cannot worry about the past or future. Happiness is in the now. ~ Claudia Gray
Time Machines quotes by Claudia Gray
We have a strange illusion that mere time cancels sin. I have heard others, and I have heard myself, recounting cruelties and falsehoods committed in boyhood as if they were no concern of the present speaker's, and even with laughter. But mere time does nothing either to the fact or to the guilt of a sin. The guilt is washed out not by time but by repentance and the blood of Christ: if we have repented these early sins we should remember the price of our forgiveness and be humble. ~ C.S. Lewis
Time Machines quotes by C.S. Lewis
Want my advice? Go to class, focus on time management, and try to workout at least three days a week. It helps to destress, plus it's a good excuse to listen to music for an hour. Try to get good grades, but don't beat yourself up over bad ones. Reach to do better. ~ Bryant A. Loney
Time Machines quotes by Bryant A. Loney
Just having my own time-out; a bit of self-pity here, a bit of self-loathing there. ~ Melina Marchetta
Time Machines quotes by Melina Marchetta
Sound is ephemeral, fleeting, but some sort of a physical manifestation can help you hold on to it longer in time. I'm sure of this; I've always thought the sound that you make is just the tip of the iceberg, like the person that you see physically is just the tip of the iceberg as well. ~ Yo-Yo Ma
Time Machines quotes by Yo-Yo Ma
You should have dragged my butt out of bed."

"Your butt's too big to drag," Taylor said.

Hayley sat on the floor, facing her sister. "That means yours is too. We have the same butt, remember?"

"Don't remind me," Taylor said. "I see it every time you walk in front of me. ~ Gregg Olsen
Time Machines quotes by Gregg Olsen
For a time during the early settlement of this country peace and goodwill prevailed, only to be followed later by violent and relentless warfare. ~ Nelson A. Miles
Time Machines quotes by Nelson A. Miles
Everyone thinks that the old days were better, or that they were harder, and the modern times are chaotic and complex, or easier all around, but I think people's hearts have always been the same, happy and sad, and that hasn't changed at all. It's just the shapes of lives that change, not the lives themselves. ~ Brian Doyle
Time Machines quotes by Brian Doyle
A rain of pebbles from overhead makes me glance up in time to see Ruthann step onto the lip of the cliff, another fifteen feet above me. Her body is wrapped tight in a pure white robe.

"Ruthann!" I shout, my voice caroming off the rock walls, an obscenity.

She looks down at me. Across the distance our eyes meet.

"Ruthann, don't," I whisper, but she shakes her head.

I'm sorry.

In that half-second, I think about Wilma and Derek and me, all the people who do not want to beleft behind, who think we know what is best for her. I think about the doctors and the medicines Ruthann lied about taking. I think about how I could talk her down from that ledge like I have talked down a dozen potential suicide victims. Yet the right thing to do, here, is subjective. Ruthann's family, who wants her alive, will not be the one to lose hair from drugs, to have surgery to remove her breast, to die by degrees. It is easy to say that Ruthann should come down from that cliff, unless you are Ruthann.

I know better than anyone what it feels like to have someone else make choices for you, when you deserve to be making them yourself.

I look at Ruthann, and very slowly, I not.

She smiles at me, and so I am her witness -- as she unwraps the wedding robe from her narrow shoulders and holds is across her back like the wide wings of a hawk. As she steps off the edge of the cliff and rises to the Spirit World. As t ~ Jodi Picoult
Time Machines quotes by Jodi Picoult
My goal was to make first lieutenant. I never spent a lot of time worrying about what came after that. ~ Hugh Shelton
Time Machines quotes by Hugh Shelton
Okay, we'll go tomorrow. That way I can be sure you're not sneaking to see your addiction."
"I'm not addicted."
"One time I tried to give up caffeine," she said, ignoring my statement. "I got a headache. I wonder if you're going to get a headache this week. ~ Kasie West
Time Machines quotes by Kasie West
I have generally sought to work on questions that I thought were both interesting and approachable, yet not too widely appreciated. To struggle to make discoveries that would be made by others a short time later seems futile to me. ~ Jack W. Szostak
Time Machines quotes by Jack W. Szostak
When you're a kid, your first five or six years, you converge all the time. School is about training that out of you, especially universities. ~ Lawrence Weschler
Time Machines quotes by Lawrence Weschler
In typical sailing races a long time ago, you'd come in and go out, and the first thing you'd do is probably have a cold beer. The first thing we do now is have a protein shake and our recovery drink. ~ James Spithill
Time Machines quotes by James Spithill
The first time my heart broke, I thought back to
the day in my childhood when a piece of glass went
through my finger after an ill-fated cartwheel.
I was eleven years old.
My mother and I were in our bathroom cleaning
up the wound. She dribbled peroxide onto the cut.
It fizzed and burned; I winced at the pain.
It needs to burn so you know it's healing,
she explained.
That small exchange during my adolescence helped
me learn to appreciate the pain pulsating from my
broken heart. In spite of the severity of my wound,
I knew the healing process had already begun. ~ Alicia Cook
Time Machines quotes by Alicia Cook
I don't trust valets, waiters - nobody. I don't waste my time anymore trying to figure out who leaks things to the press. ~ Nicole Richie
Time Machines quotes by Nicole Richie
I'm not a dancer, and it was very time-consuming. But I met great people, and it was flattering to be asked to be on. You don't understand how demanding that show is until you're on the inside. That is real work. Real work! ~ Wendy Williams
Time Machines quotes by Wendy Williams
I have to bring to your notice a terrifying reality: with the development of nuclear weapons Man has acquired, for the first time in history, the technical means to destroy the whole of civilization in a single act. ~ Joseph Rotblat
Time Machines quotes by Joseph Rotblat
Time is not a field, to be measured in rods, nor a sea, to be measured in miles; it is a heart beat. ~ Nikos Kazantzakis
Time Machines quotes by Nikos Kazantzakis
I'm telling you, men make women stupid. What with their gorgeous dicks and stupid, sexy crooked, villainous smiles and good smelling necks. All of them make us stupid at one time or another. ~ V. Theia
Time Machines quotes by V. Theia
Micah: "Come, on. Let's get you out of here." He began putting his arms under me and lifted me off my bed of rocks.
"Oh, no. You can't just come trotting in here like some hero. I'm saving myself this time. Go away!"
"And let me just say you were doing a fine job lying there on your back. ~ Terra Harmony
Time Machines quotes by Terra Harmony
Time to rest as congratulations are in order ... you have survived and mastered the beast; may knowledge of self be your victory. ~ Wes Adamson
Time Machines quotes by Wes Adamson
If you're bored with something, act as if you're seeing it for the first time. Look at it with new eyes. Pretend you're seeing it as a film director, theme park designer or your Aunt Josie - anything that provides a change in perspective. To beat boredom, make the familiar unfamiliar. ~ Sam Harrison
Time Machines quotes by Sam Harrison
To complain that man measures God by his own experience is a waste of time; man measures everything by his own experience; he has no other yardstick. ~ Dorothy L. Sayers
Time Machines quotes by Dorothy L. Sayers
Fight scenes are really more like dances than they are fights, because you're depending on your partner to do the right move at the right time. Yes, a tough person or somebody who knows what they're doing will look better in a fight scene, but it also has a lot to do with the other person. ~ James Franco
Time Machines quotes by James Franco
I want to have the memories of my time with you to keep me warm. ~ Abbi Glines
