It is in no way, shape or form your cosmic duty or responsibility to take away the pain of other people. This is because by absorbing the pain of others, you are depriving them of a vital element of their spiritual evolution and karmic responsibility. ~ Mateo Sol
Overload quotes by Mateo Sol
Without the ability to discern, we stand impotent in an age of information overload. ~ Anonymous
Overload quotes by Anonymous
We live in the information age and the sheer volume of it being available everywhere, creates a need for information that has value. Yes, we can look anything up on Google but who has the time? Can we trust that the information comes from a trustworthy source? Your experience has given you a deep knowing of your subject matter. You have insights and ideas that others may not figure out on their own. You are holding a roadmap that has great value to someone. What has been stopping you from sharing your knowledge? Perhaps you have been afraid to put yourself out there because of a fear of rejection? Let me get straight to the point. Get over it right now! Ponder the following quote for a moment and then move on with the decision to write rather than not to write, because not to write is not "to be". You deny yourself and your audience. You have had an incredible journey to get to where you are and have amassed experience and knowledge. Now combine that with your unique voice and be heard. You are already an expert. Accept it. ~ Kytka Hilmar-Jezek
Overload quotes by Kytka Hilmar-Jezek
As far as stimulus from the visual arts specifically, there is today in most of us a visual appetite that is hungry, that is acutely undernourished. One might go so far as to say that Protestants in particular suffer from a form of visual anorexia. It is not that there is a lack of visual stimuli, but rather a lack of wholesomeness of form and content amidst the all-pervasive sensory overload. ~ John Walford
Overload quotes by John Walford
If nature didn't whittle down your network to a smaller number of strongly forged connections, you would never become an adult. You would remain a permanent child, frozen in sensory overload. ~ Donald O. Clifton
Overload quotes by Donald O. Clifton
Life has become a state of sensory overload. ~ Joseph Curiale
Overload quotes by Joseph Curiale
Everyone spoke of an information overload, but what there was in fact was a non-information overload. ~ Richard Saul Wurman
Overload quotes by Richard Saul Wurman
There were so many viciously sarcastic ways to respond, Jaden's brain was temporarily paralyzed due to witty comeback overload. ~ Courtney Kirchoff
Overload quotes by Courtney Kirchoff
When you talk to people who have been in combat, there's a sensory overload that happens. The color becomes vivid. Sounds become more pronounced. People talk about how, for them, the war was technicolor and real life was black and white after the war. ~ David Ayer
Overload quotes by David Ayer
The next night was New Year's Eve, and I made a secret plan with Shara to meet her outside the back door on the stroke of midnight.
"Let's take a walk," I suggested.
"Sure. It's midnight, minus five degrees, and pitch black, but hey, let's walk." She paused. "But not up Loyal," she added, smiling.
And so we walked together along a moonlit track.
Twenty yards and then I will make the move to kiss her, I told myself.
But plucking up the courage with a girl this special was harder than I had thought.
Twenty yards became two hundred yards. Then two thousand.
Forty-five minutes later, she suggested that maybe we should turn around and head back to the house.
"Yes. Good idea." I replied.
Do it, Bear, you old woman. Do it now!
And so I did.
A quick kiss on the lips, then a longer lingering one, and then I had to stop. It was sensory overload.
Wow. That was worth the walk, I thought, smiling from ear to ear.
"Let's head back," I confirmed, still smiling.
I am not sure Shara was quite as impressed by the effort-to-reward ratio--long cold walk to short, hot kiss--but as far as I was concerned the sky and clouds had parted, and nothing would ever be the same again. ~ Bear Grylls
Overload quotes by Bear Grylls
The state dinner is almost a formula, but you try to make it interesting. You try not to overload it with too many political types. You try to get a cross section. ~ Barbara Bush
Overload quotes by Barbara Bush
Careful, Sandi. You're about to let your bulldog mouth overload your bird-dog bite. ~ Peggy Webb
Overload quotes by Peggy Webb
You fight your superficiality, your shallowness, so as to try to come at people without unreal expectations, without an overload of bias or hope or arrogance, as untanklike as you can be, sans cannon and machine guns and steel plating half a foot thick; you come at them unmenacingly on your own ten toes instead of tearing up the turf with your caterpillar treads, take them on with an open mind, as equals, man to man, as we used to say, and yet you never fail to get them wrong. You might as well have the "brain" of a tank. You get them wrong before you meet them, while you're anticipating meeting them; you get them wrong while you're with them; and then you go home to tell somebody else about the meeting and you get them all wrong again. Since the same generally goes for them with you, the whole thing is really a dazzling illusion empty of all perception, an astonishing farce of misperception. And yet what are we to do about this terribly significant business of "other people," which gets bled of the significance we think it has and takes on instead a significance that is ludicrous, so ill-equipped are we all to envision one another's interior workings and invisible aims? Is everyone to go off and lock the door and sit secluded like the lonely writers do, in a soundproof cell, summoning people out of words and then proposing that these word people are closer to the real thing than the real people that we mangle with our ignorance every day? The fact remains that getting people ~ Philip Roth
Overload quotes by Philip Roth
I am a dreamer of words, of written words. I think I am reading; a word stops me. I leave the page. The syllables of the word begin to move around. Stressed accents begin to invert. The word abandons its meaning like an overload which is too heavy and prevents dreaming. Then words take on other meanings as if they had the right to be young. And the words wander away, looking in the nooks and crannies of vocabulary for new company, bad company. ~ Gaston Bachelard
Overload quotes by Gaston Bachelard
By some estimates, the data-storage curve is rocketing upward at the rate of 800 percent per year. Organizations are collecting so much data they're overwhelmed. Families are no different; we have more things on disk, more photos, more items stored than we'll ever have to allocate time for. "Since Kodachrome made way for jpeg, pictures accumulate on hard drives like wet leaves in a gutter." (Jim Lewis, author of "The King is Dead") ~ Jeff Davidson
Overload quotes by Jeff Davidson
Spring is the sound of birds chirping, the taste of cherry juice, the feel of grass on bare feet, the sight of pink roses and blue skies, and the feel of dandelion fuzz. Spring, in other words, is a welcome, wondrous sensory overload. ~ Toni Sorenson
Overload quotes by Toni Sorenson
Modern day information overload stops us sufficiently engaging with our thoughts. ~ Sam Owen
Overload quotes by Sam Owen
What in the Haven's name just happened?"
Dazed and still trembling from the overload to her senses, Ellysetta floated in Rain's arms, her limp body draped across his, incapable of autonomous movement. She could barely think straight, let alone summon the strength to actually move.
Rain's chest rippled as he dragged in a shuddering breath. "I don't know." His voice came out hoarse, raspy. He swallowed, then tilted his chin against his chest to glance at her. A grin twitched at the corners of his mouth. "But I hope it happens again. ~ C.L. Wilson
Overload quotes by C.L. Wilson
Too much collagen will damage the skin. You will get collagen overload. ~ Chris Toumazou
Overload quotes by Chris Toumazou
I felt I had nothing more to say. Everything would have had to be a replay of the previous two or three albums, and that decided me to stop. What bothered me most was not playing guitar at all anymore. I felt I had no more contact with the instrument. It was just a piece of wood to me. I even thought music had definitely left me. After fourteen albums, there may be an overload phase, a sort of lassitude. ~ Richard Pinhas
Overload quotes by Richard Pinhas
Time studies find that a mother, especially one who works outside the home for pay, is among the most time-poor humans on the planet, especially single mothers, weighed down not only by role overload but also what sociologists call "task density" - the intense responsibility she bears and the multitude of jobs she performs in each of those roles.6 ~ Brigid Schulte
Overload quotes by Brigid Schulte
We look to artists to feel for us, to suffer and rejoice, to describe the heights of their passionate response to life so that we can enjoy them from a safe distance. . . . We look to artists to stop time for us, to break the cycle of birth and death and temporarily put an end to life's processes. It is too much of a whelm for any one person to face up to without going into sensory overload. Artists, on the other hand, court that intensity. We ask artists to fill our lives with a cavalcade of fresh sights and insights, the way life was for us when we were children and everything was new.39 ~ Cameron J Anderson
Overload quotes by Cameron J Anderson
It's not information overload. It's filter failure. ~ Clay Shirky
Overload quotes by Clay Shirky
I was feeling overwhelmed. Meeting Bianca, dancing, rejection by Bianca, social overload, discussion of personal matters - now, just when I thought the ordeal was over, Rosie seemed to be proposing more conversation. I was not sure I could cope.
'It's extremely late,' I said. I was sure this was a socially acceptable way of saying that I wanted to go home.
'The taxi fares go down again in the morning.'
If I understood correctly, I was now definitely far out of my depth. I needed to be sure that I wasn't misinterpreting her. ~ Graeme Simsion
Overload quotes by Graeme Simsion
Love is all right for those who can handle the psychic overload. It's like trying to carry a full garbage can on your back over a rushing river of piss. ~ Charles Bukowski
Overload quotes by Charles Bukowski
Seems like it," answered Bowman. "The unit checks out perfectly. Even under two hundred percent overload, there's no fault prediction indicated." The two men were standing in the tiny workshop-cum-lab in the carrousel, which was more convenient than the space-pod garage for minor repairs and examinations. There was no danger, here, of meeting blobs of hot solder drifting down the breeze, or of completely losing small items of equipment that had decided to go into orbit. Such things could - and did - happen in ~ Arthur C. Clarke
Overload quotes by Arthur C. Clarke
She had wild eyes, slightly insane. She also carried an overload of compassion that was real enough and which obviously cost her something. ~ Charles Bukowski
Overload quotes by Charles Bukowski
On the road, it's constant sensory overload, and it's easy to lose track of days and time and to get caught up in the constant giving of yourself. ~ Chuck Ragan
Overload quotes by Chuck Ragan
We live in a world where there is more and more information, and less and less meaning. ~ Jean Baudrillard
Overload quotes by Jean Baudrillard
Gut feelings help us filter the world, and what is taste, really, but a kind of cognitive mechanism for managing sensory overload? But ~ Tom Vanderbilt
Overload quotes by Tom Vanderbilt
The formula for knee pain is quite simple: Weak Foundation + Overload = Injury In ~ Manu Kalia
Overload quotes by Manu Kalia
What about confusing clutter? Information overload? Doesn't data have to be "boiled down" and "simplified"? These common questions miss the point, for the quantity of detail is an issue completely separate from the difficulty of reading. Clutter and confusion are failures of design, not attributes of information. ~ Edward R. Tufte
Overload quotes by Edward R. Tufte
Drake complied. 'Learned that one in tech class,' he informed the occupants of the operations bay. 'Got to make sure you hit the left side only or it doesn't work.' 'What happens if you hit the right side?' Ripley asked curiously. 'You overload the internal pressure control, the one that keeps your helmet on your head.' She could see Drake smiling wolfishly into Frost's camera. 'Your eyeballs implode and your brains explode.' 'What brains?' Vasquez let out a snort. ~ Alan Dean Foster
Overload quotes by Alan Dean Foster
The cure to information overload is more information. ~ David Weinberger
Overload quotes by David Weinberger
I believe C++ instills fear in programmers, fear that the interaction of some details causes unpredictable results. Its unmanageable complexity has spawned more fear-preventing tools than any other language, but the solution should have been to create and use a language that does not overload the whole goddamn human brain with irrelevant details. ~ Erik Naggum
Overload quotes by Erik Naggum
It's not because my mind is made up that I don't want you to confuse me with any more facts. It's because my mind isn't made up. I already have more facts than I can cope with. So SHUT UP, do you hear me? SHUT UP! ~ John Brunner
Overload quotes by John Brunner
When you don't have, or feel that you don't have, an extra moment to read philosophy, history, or science, when great literature, plays, and novels are as foreign to you as hieroglyphics, do you have any cahnce of seeing your work, career, or life in a new light? You might be doing well in the race, but it's the same race essentially down the same track with the same opponents that may prove to be less than sufficient in enabling you to get those kinds of things done that you want to have completed. ~ Jeff Davidson
Overload quotes by Jeff Davidson
We really are living in an age of information overload. Google estimates that there are 300 exabytes (300 followed by 18 zeros) of human-made information in the world today. Only four years ago there were just 30 exabytes. We've created more information in the past few years than in all of human history before us. ~ Daniel Levitin
Overload quotes by Daniel Levitin
Death by hormonal overload. ~ Jaden Wilkes
Overload quotes by Jaden Wilkes
How difficult it has become to decipher the truth from the fictitious, to trust one's own eyes over the art of image distortion. Information is power and if readings have taught us anything, it is that power inevitably corrupts. ~ Aysha Taryam
Overload quotes by Aysha Taryam
They think they are interested about the atomic bomb but they really are not not any more than I am. Really not. They may be a little scared, I am not so scared, there is so much to be scared of so what is the use of bothering to be scared, and if you are not scared the atomic bomb is not interesting.
Everybody gets so much information all day long that they lose their common sense. They listen so much that they forget to be natural. This is a nice story. ~ Gertrude Stein
Overload quotes by Gertrude Stein
Stress overload makes us stupid. Solid research proves it. When we get overstressed, it creates a nasty chemical soup in our brains that makes it hard to pull out of the anxious depressive spiral. ~ Gail Sheehy
Overload quotes by Gail Sheehy
At such moments of extreme panic and anguish you do manage that trick with time: you are at last free from the illusion that time is linear.
In panic, time stops: past, present and future exist as a single overwhelming force. You then, perversely, want time to appear to run forwards because the 'future' is the only place you can see an escape from this intolerable overload of feeling. But at such moments time doesn't move. And if time isn't running, then all events that we think of as past or future are actually happening simultaneously. That is the really terrifying thing. And you are subsumed. You're buried, as beneath an avalanche, by the weight of simultaneous events. ~ Sebastian Faulks
Overload quotes by Sebastian Faulks
Home.
Home was BAMA, the Sprawl, the Boston-Atlanta Metropolitan Axis.
Program a map to display frequency of data exchange, every thousand megabytes a single pixel on a very large screen. Manhattan and Atlanta burn solid white. Then they start to pulse, the rate of traffic threatening to overload your simulation. Your map is about to go nova. Cool it down. Up your scale. Each pixel a million megabytes. At a hundred million megabytes per second, you begin to make out certain blocks in midtown Manhattan, outlines of hundred-year-old industrial parks ringing the old core of Atlanta ... ~ William Gibson
Overload quotes by William Gibson
People today are in danger of drowning in information; but, because they have been taught that information is useful, they are more willing to drown than they need be.
If they could handle information, they would not have to drown at all. ~ Idries Shah
Overload quotes by Idries Shah
The physical demands of cycling is that it actually lowers your immune system, and you expose yourself to a tremendous amount of elements - so certain people might get a chronic overload and develop, say, bad asthma. ~ Greg LeMond
Overload quotes by Greg LeMond
It was as if the sensory overload that is American life had somehow led to sensory deprivation, a gilded weariness, where everything is permitted and nothing appreciated. ~ J. Maarten Troost
Overload quotes by J. Maarten Troost
Be brief on the logic and reason portion of your presentation. There are probably about a thousand facts about an automobile, but you don't need them all to make a decision. About a half dozen will do. ~ Jim Rohn
Overload quotes by Jim Rohn
Little Fists, what's wrong? ~ Marie Rutkoski
Overload quotes by Marie Rutkoski
We often find ourselves wishing for more hours in the day, but that wouldn't help anything. The problem, clearly, isn't that we have a shortage of time. It's more that we have an overload of everything else. ~ Matt Haig
Overload quotes by Matt Haig
Maybe that's where it started and they brought it back from the desert, some kind of contagious psychic wound, guilt based. Maybe it's the dark matter, invisibly making up most of the universe. Maybe it was methane thawing at the bottom of the sea, releasing some ancient spore from the melted icebergs. Maybe it was the hole in the ozone, the collapse of the upper atmosphere. Maybe it was the overload of information, the swarms of data generated by every human gesture. Maybe it was the networking craze, the resurrection of dead friendships and memories meant to be lost, now resurfacing like rusted shipwrecks to reclaim our attention and scramble our sense of time. Maybe it was the death of an artist at the hands of a zealot. Maybe it was the particles made to collide. Maybe the mapping of the genome. Maybe the clashing of gods, the tug-of-war over our souls, not one of them refusing to let go, instead opting to see us sliced in two by Soloman's sword. Maybe it was food becoming a prop for food. Maybe it was a distant comet dusting us with its tail of poisoned ice. Maybe it was someone uttering a combination of syllables that should never be uttered. Maybe it was the emergence of collective intelligence, the flattening of the world. Maybe the game we inhabit had a glitch. Maybe the angel's horn had finally been blown. ~ Kenneth Calhoun
Overload quotes by Kenneth Calhoun
Just as a spring, through the continual pressure of a foreign body, at last loses its elasticity, so does the mind if it has another person's thoughts continually forced upon it. And just as one spoils the stomach by overfeeding and thereby impairs the whole body, so can one overload and choke the mind by giving it too much nourishment. For the more one reads the fewer are the traces left of what one has read; the mind is like a tablet that has been written over and over. Hence it is impossible to reflect; and it is only by reflection that one can assimilate what one has read if one reads straight ahead without pondering over it later, what has been read does not take root, but is for the most part lost. Indeed, it is the same with mental as with bodily food: scarcely the fifth part of what a man takes is assimilated; the remainder passes off in evaporation, respiration, and the like. ~ Arthur Schopenhauer
Overload quotes by Arthur Schopenhauer
We tend to select top men for their character and capacity, then overload them according to their willingness. ~ Clarence Benjamin Jones
Overload quotes by Clarence Benjamin Jones
With blue vinyl-tile floor, pale-green wainscoating, pink walls, a yellow ceiling, and orange-and-white stork-patterned drapes, the expectant fathers' lounge churned with the negative energy of color overload. It would have served well as the nervous-making set for a nightmare about a children's-show host who led a secret life as an ax murderer. The chain-smoking clown didn't improve the ambience. ~ Dean Koontz
Overload quotes by Dean Koontz
The result of information overload is usually distraction, and it dilutes your focus and takes you off your game. ~ Zig Ziglar
Overload quotes by Zig Ziglar
Our current contempt for poverty stems from information overload--this is the enabler---our over education as privileged people-- perhaps the real culprit--and our secret assurance that we ourselves owe no one anything beyond the exhausting daily round. We will defend our lack of idealism to anyone and be horrifyingly well received in this age. Indeed, many so called financial "philosophies" are in fact nothing more than elaborate justification for one petty selfishness after the next. ~ John Thomas Allen
Overload quotes by John Thomas Allen
There are some parts of the world that, once visited, get into your heart and won't go. For me, India is such a place. When I first visited, I was stunned by the richness of the land, by its lush beauty and exotic architecture, by its ability to overload the senses with the pure, concentrated intensity of its colors, smells, tastes, and sounds. It was as if all my life I had been seeing the world in black and white and, when brought face-to-face with India, experienced everything re-rendered in brilliant technicolor. ~ Keith Bellows
Overload quotes by Keith Bellows
The overload makes users less productive and more stressed; thus, there's a need for some solution. Passively ignoring the problem won't work, since bits are still heavy, even if we pretend not to notice. ~ Mark Hurst
Overload quotes by Mark Hurst
We all would like to know more and, at the same time, to receive less information. In fact, the problem of a worker in today's knowledge industry is not the scarcity of information but its excess. The same holds for professionals: just think of a physician or an executive, constantly bombarded by information that is at best irrelevant. In order to learn anything we need time. And to make time we must use information filters allowing us to ignore most of the information aimed at us. We must ignore much to learn a little. ~ Mario Bunge
Overload quotes by Mario Bunge
everybody knows too much about everything to know anything. And somehow that turns into everyone thinking everything is probably the opposite of what it is, or maybe not the opposite, but something else anyway. Everything you always thought is always proved wrong so the only way to act is against whatever you think. ~ James W. Blinn
Overload quotes by James W. Blinn
What do you read?"
I've never given a very satisfactory answer to that question, because it causes a kind of circuit overload in my brain. The easy answer ー"Everything I can get my hands on!ー is true enough, but not helpful. ~ Stephen King
Overload quotes by Stephen King
After all, as Edward Tufte once said, "Overload, clutter, and confusion are not attributes of information, they are failures of design. ~ Golden Krishna
Overload quotes by Golden Krishna
Gideon cupped my face in his hands and kissed me, our flavors mingling. "Thank you."
"What are you thanking me for? You did all the work."
"There's no work involved in fucking you, angel." His slow smile was pure satiated male. "I'm grateful for the privilege."
I sank back onto my heels. "You're killing me. You can't be that gorgeous and sexy and say stuff like that. It's overload. It fries my brain. Sends me into a meltdown."
His smile widened and he kissed me again. "I know the feeling. ~ Sylvia Day
Overload quotes by Sylvia Day
Low moisture hair care regimens are the most common source of breakage in black hair care. Hair that is not treated regularly with moisturizing deep-conditioning treatments, and hair that is cleansed less than once weekly with moisturizing products is a prime candidate for moisture deficiency breakage. Regimens that feature regular heat styling and daily products such as greases, pomades, alcohol-based hair gels and holding sprays also tend to fall into this breakage category. Occasionally, the overuse of protein-based products such as "hair repair" and reconstructor treatments is to blame for low moisture hair breakage. This condition is often referred to as "protein overload" in ~ Audrey Davis-Sivasothy
Overload quotes by Audrey Davis-Sivasothy
When information overload occurs, pattern recognition is how to determine truth. ~ Marshall McLuhan
Overload quotes by Marshall McLuhan
I daydream often and sometimes my daydreams interrupt my daydreams. So I write to remember them. If I didn't write, I think my mind would explode from an overload of fantasy and weirdness. To the annoyance of my friends and family, my characters sometimes become a part of my world. ~ Susan Griscom
Overload quotes by Susan Griscom
In this world of numbness and information overload, the ability to feel, my boy, is a rare gift indeed. ~ Patrick Ness
Overload quotes by Patrick Ness
With such a vast and wonderful library spread out before us, we often skim books or read just the reviews. We might already have encountered the Greatest Idea, the insight that would have transformed us had we savored it, taken it to heart, and worked it into our lives. ~ Jonathan Haidt
Overload quotes by Jonathan Haidt
I come from a tradition of Western culture, in which the ideal (my ideal) was the complex, dense, and 'cathedral-like' structure of the highly educated and articulate personality
a man or woman who carried inside themselves a personally constructed and unique version of the entire heritage of the West. [But now] I see within us all (myself included) there placement of complex inner density with a new kind of self
evolving under the pressure of information overload and the technology of the 'instantly available.' ~ Richard Foreman
Overload quotes by Richard Foreman
The author explores the result of endless choice. It is not only overload, but a profound loss of unity, solidity, and coherence in life. ~ Os Guinness
Overload quotes by Os Guinness
We live in a world of media overload and data smog, where everything distracts us from everything else. Yet underlying this noisy assault, our culture offers us nothing transcendent. No deeper meaning, no abiding hope. In my crisis, every facet of the contemporary world seemed part of a diabolical mechanism carefully designed to keep people from wondering about the real purpose of their endless frantic activity. ~ Daniel Pinchbeck
Overload quotes by Daniel Pinchbeck
In a whirlwind world, independent languor becomes a virtue, and meditation engenders a finer art than any nervousness ~ Vachel Lindsay
Overload quotes by Vachel Lindsay
Time-use researchers call it "contaminated time." It is a product of both role overload - working and still bearing the primary responsibility for children and home - and task density. It's mental pollution, one researcher explained. One's brain is stuffed with all the demands of work along with the kids' calendars, family logistics, and chores. Sure, mothers can delegate tasks on the to-do list, but even that takes up brain space - not simply the asking but also the checking to make sure the task has been done, and the biting of the tongue when it hasn't been done as well or as quickly as you'd like. So it is perhaps not surprising that time researchers are finding that, while "free time" may help ease the feeling of time pressure for men, and in the 1970s helped women a little, by 1998 it was providing women no relief at all.15 ~ Brigid Schulte
Overload quotes by Brigid Schulte
True wisdom, as the fruit of self-examination, dialogue, and generous encounter between persons, is not acquired by a mere accumulation of data which eventually leads to overload and confusion, a sort of mental pollution. Real relationships with others, with all the challenges they entail, now tend to be replaced by a type of internet communication which enables us to choose or eliminate relationships at whim, thus giving rise to a new type of contrived emotion which has more to do with devices and displays than with other people and with nature. ~ Pope Francis
Overload quotes by Pope Francis
Stand on Zanzibar is an information overload on topics that sensible people would never want to learn about. ~ John Brunner
Overload quotes by John Brunner
You know what kind of nerves are in your feet? The same ones that network into your genitals. Your feet are like a minnow bucket full of sensory neurons, all of them wriggling around in search of sensation. Stimulate those nerves just a little, and the impulse will rocket through your entire nervous system; that's why tickling your feet can overload the switchboard and cause your whole body to spasm. ~ Christopher McDougall
Overload quotes by Christopher McDougall
We cling nervously to the melody, but we don't handle it freely, we don't really make anything new out of it, we merely overload it. ~ Johannes Brahms
Overload quotes by Johannes Brahms
The powers that be no longer have to stifle information. They can now overload us with so much of it, there's no way to know what's factual or not. The ability to be an informed public is only going to worsen with advancing deep fake technology.

Incriminating audio and video will hold even less weight than it already does. A government doesn't have to lie to its people or censor its enemies when no one believes a thing to begin with.

We're entering the Post-Information Age. ~ J. Andrew Schrecker
Overload quotes by J. Andrew Schrecker
The circumstances of modern life seem to be conspiring to make experiences less satisfying than they could and perhaps should be, in part because of the richness against which we are comparing our own experiences. Again, as we'll see, an overload of choice contributes to this dissatisfaction. ~ Barry Schwartz
Overload quotes by Barry Schwartz
Is there anywhere on earth exempt from these swarms of new books? Even if, taken out one at a time, they offered something worth knowing, the very mass of them would be an impediment to learning from satiety if nothing else ~ Erasmus
Overload quotes by Erasmus
What can we do to maintain slowness in the face of those periods of busyness? How can we avoid overload, exhaustion, or even burnout?
Perhaps unsurprisingly, my answer is simply to pay attention.
I recognize the way I'm inclined to stay up late, the way I will procrastinate at every option- and instead of spiraling into that overwhelming sense of too much, I check in with myself.
Why am I feeling this way? What has changed? What is there more of? What is there less of?
Become better at recognizing the signs of a looming backslide and pay close attention to the areas of our lives that have the greatest impact, ensuring they never slip too far out of hand.
Nicholas Bate refers to this regular checking in as "taking your MEDS" or more specifically, paying attention to:

- Mindfulness
- Exercise
- Diet
- Sleep

Once I recognize which of these areas has changed, its simpler (not necessarily easier) to recognize the issue and start fixing it. Sometimes the changes aren't in my control, so I need to look for ways of finding slow by creating more opportunities for a moment of deep breathing or paying close attention to whats in front of me. But other times, I've simply lost sight of what works, and its a matter of adding more of these things I've neglected- Mindfulness, simplicity, kindness- and reducing the things that don't serve me well.
Above all else, though, I simply go back to my Why.
I call to mind the ~ Brooke McAlary
Overload quotes by Brooke McAlary
The man approached. He stood tall, at least six three, maybe six four. Broad shoulders. Long legs in black pants. His black hair fell in a tangled mess on his shoulders. It looked like he might have cut it himself with a knife and then tied a leather cord around his forehead to keep it somewhat pinned. I looked at his face. Handsome bastard. Defined jaw, chiseled cheekbones, full lips. Eyes like black fire. The kind of eyes that jumped from a woman's dreams right into her morning and made trouble in the marriage bed.
He gave me a feral grin. "Like what you see, dove?"
"Nope." I hadn't had sex in eighteen months. Pardon me while I struggle with my hormone overload.
Shave that jaw, brush the hair, tone down the crazy in the eyes, and he would have to fight off women with that crossbow. ~ Ilona Andrews
Overload quotes by Ilona Andrews
Paradox is at the heart of the mysteries of witchcraft. I believe that paradox is what allows the conditions for the witch to create magick. By creating a paradox, we essentially overload the processing of reality by breaking the rules. In a way, we're jamming the system like throwing a wrench into the cogs, where we can then enter in our own codes for when we're done and the system and its processes of reality resume. ~ Mat Auryn
Overload quotes by Mat Auryn
My notion of art is very maximalist and souped-up: I love spectacle, overload, magic materials, magic words, incantation and litany, incarnation and possession, spilling and wounds. Art as a sacred event. ~ Joyelle McSweeney
Overload quotes by Joyelle McSweeney
System 2 and the electrical circuits in your home both have limited capacity, but they respond differently to threatened overload. A breaker trips when the demand for current is excessive, causing all devices on that circuit to lose power at once. In contrast, the response to mental overload is selective and precise: System 2 protects the most important activity, so it receives the attention it needs; "spare capacity" is allocated second by second to other tasks. In our version of the gorilla experiment, we instructed the participants to assign priority to the digit task. We know that they followed that instruction, because the timing of the visual target had no effect on the main task. If the critical letter was presented at a time of high demand, the subjects simply did not see it. When the transformation task was less demanding, detection performance was better. ~ Daniel Kahneman
Overload quotes by Daniel Kahneman
If you do have to look at polls, you should do it no more than once every few days, to get a general sense of the state of the race. I've seen the work on information overload, which makes people depressed, stressed and freezes their brains. I know that checking the polls constantly is a recipe for self-deception and anxiety. ~ David Brooks
Overload quotes by David Brooks
There are many things of which a wise man might wish to be ignorant ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson
Overload quotes by Ralph Waldo Emerson
You can't punish a child who is acting out because of sensory overload. ~ Temple Grandin
Overload quotes by Temple Grandin
The ass bears the load, but not the overload. ~ Miguel De Cervantes
Overload quotes by Miguel De Cervantes
I was always aware that this whole Earth is on overload. ~ Ridley Scott
Overload quotes by Ridley Scott
First, we cannot overload the human brain. This divinely created brain has fourteen billion cells. If used to the maximum, this human computer inside our heads could contain all the knowledge of humanity from the beginning of the world to the present and still have room left over. Second, not only can we not overload our brain - we also know that our brain retains everything. I often use saying that "The brain acquires everything that we encounter." The difficulty does not come with the input of information, but getting it out. Sometimes we "file" information randomly of little importance, and it confuses us. ~ Ben Carson
Overload quotes by Ben Carson
I have always been a sucker for ballads, but you have to be careful these days, you can't overload people. ~ Joe Cocker
Overload quotes by Joe Cocker
He was the quintessential bad boy, complete with a ruthlessness that appeared to simmer dangerously close to the surface. Couple that with his devil-may-care swagger and panty-dropping smile, it was a small wonder she hadn't fainted from the sheer emotional overload. ~ B.B. Cruz
Overload quotes by B.B. Cruz
It is not just the number of choices that has increased exponentially, it is also the strength and number of outside influences on our decisions that has increased. While much has been said and written about how hyperconnected we now are and how distracting this information overload can be, the larger issue is how our connectedness has increased the strength of social pressure. Today, technology has lowered the barrier for others to share their opinion about what we should be focusing on.
It is not just information overload; it is opinion overload. ~ Greg McKeown
Overload quotes by Greg McKeown
It's like being a newborn, this sudden sensory overload of noise, color, smells and gravity after months of quietly floating, encased in relative calm and isolation. No wonder babies cry in protest when they're born. ~ Chris Hadfield
Overload quotes by Chris Hadfield
The willing horse carries the heaviest burden. Take a care not to overload the willing horse. ~ Michael Scott
Overload quotes by Michael Scott
He must notice that I'm not understanding. He dips a finger beneath the surface of the water and pulls up; with a vibrant pulse of his majick, the aqua raises him up until he's on something similar to a pillar and face to face with me. Then despite the language barrier, he speaks slowly and adds hand gestures. Like I'm the lake simpleton. The look on my face must pass along how I feel about it because he stops and laughs, reminding me of the sound wooden wind chimes make on a breezy day. It's deep, peaceful, and resonates with my power; my heart stutters from a mini overload, similar to having drunk too much caffeine. ~ Sara Brackett
Overload quotes by Sara Brackett
We must stand up against old age and make up for its drawbacks by taking pains. We must fight it as we should an illness. We must look after our health, use moderate exercise, take just enough food and drink to recruit, but not to overload, our strength. Nor is it the body alone that must be supported, but the intellect and soul much more. ~ Marcus Tullius Cicero
Overload quotes by Marcus Tullius Cicero
What's next for technology and design? A lot less thinking about technology for technology's sake, and a lot more thinking about design. Art humanizes technology and makes it understandable. Design is needed to make sense of information overload. It is why art and design will rise in importance during this century as we try to make sense of all the possibilities that digital technology now affords. ~ John Maeda
Overload quotes by John Maeda
We come from a sensory-overload culture, and so we wonder if one guy on drums and one guy dancing around is enough. Adding guys was something we always were curious about. We decided for this run specifically to stay a two-piece. In the future, we definitely could add members. ~ Tyler Joseph
