King gives you this 'bro' stuff and tells you that the white man did this and we should stick together. Then he starts cutting your purse. I was with him for six years. You put your head in a noose when you sign with Don King. ~ Randall "Tex" Cobb
Noose quotes by Randall
...a totally dried noose for one is to another an integrated text adept at the cards that ruin whimsy... ~ Peter Ganick
Noose quotes by Peter Ganick
The rope that pulls you from the flood can become a noose around your neck. ~ Khaled Hosseini
Noose quotes by Khaled Hosseini
A nut is someone whose noose broke. ~ Joanne Greenberg
Noose quotes by Joanne Greenberg
He didn't know if he was more furious with his brother, for knowing precisely how to loop the wire around his neck, or with himself, for his inability to duck out of the noose. ~ Maggie Stiefvater
Noose quotes by Maggie Stiefvater
Those who escaped the noose settled here, at the very bottom, the absolute edge of peculiar society. Exiled from the outcasts of outcasts ~ Ransom Riggs
Noose quotes by Ransom Riggs
and exactly twenty-one feet from the ground. From there it fell about nine feet, culminating in a perfect hangman's knot, one that Seth had undoubtedly worked on for some time. The noose was straight from the textbook with thirteen ~ John Grisham
Noose quotes by John Grisham
The spider sits alone on an empty web, starving, desperate
for prey,
but no one comes around anymore for the spider has been abused.
Why did you have to tangle everyone inside of your web?
There's no one left.
The malnourished spider tried to remain optimistic to no avail.
The spider sways from its own web on a silk made noose. ~ Zac Young
Noose quotes by Zac Young
You can never want too much. That's how they silence us," I said. "They told us we were lucky to be in the penal colony instead of the aether. Lucky to be murdered with NiteKind, not the noose. Lucky to be alive, even if we weren't free. They told us to stop wanting more than what they gave us, because what they gave us was more than we deserved." I picked up my jacket. "You're not a prisoner any more, Arcturus." Warden looked at me in silence. I left him in that ruined hall with the music echoing above him. ~ Samantha Shannon
Noose quotes by Samantha Shannon
You are provided with hands, but you decide how to employ them. Some use their hands to provide a lover's caress, chisel a sculpture, plant seeds; others use their hands to tighten a noose, pull a gun trigger, turn a prison key on innocent souls. ~ Joshua Emmet
Noose quotes by Joshua Emmet
The whole business is the crudest sort of stratagem, since we have no way of foreseeing it to the end. It is a mere paying out of rope on the chance that somewhere along the length of it will be a noose. ~ Isaac Asimov
Noose quotes by Isaac Asimov
If you're so bored, learn to knit. I'm not that good of a hobby."
"If I ever learn to knit, the first thing I'll make is a noose to hang myself with. ~ Eva Morgan
Noose quotes by Eva Morgan
It seemed to him that if the wrong man stepped into the marriage-loop with a woman, it was a noose instead of a ring. ~ Stephen King
Noose quotes by Stephen King
For the law is not jurisprudence, not a weighty tome full of articles, not philosophical treatises, not peevish nonsense about justice, not hackneyed platitudes about morality and ethics. The law means safe paths and highways. It means backstreets one can walk along even after sundown. It means inns and taverns one can leave to visit the privy, leaving one's purse on the table and one's wife beside it. The law is the sleep of people certain they'll be woken by the crowing of the rooster and not the crashing of burning roof timbers! And for those who break the law; the noose, the axe, the stake and the red-hot iron! Punishments which deter others. ~ Andrzej Sapkowski
Noose quotes by Andrzej Sapkowski
A monarch's neck should always have a noose around it - it keeps him upright. ~ Robert A. Heinlein
Noose quotes by Robert A. Heinlein
Ah me! think, sister, how our father perished, amid hate and scorn, when sins bared by his own search had moved him to strike both eyes with self-blinding hand; then the mother wife, two names in one, with twisted noose did despite unto her life; and last, our two brothers in one day,-each shedding, hapless one, a kinsman's blood,-wrought out with mutual hands their common doom. And now we in turn-we two left all alone think how we shall perish, more miserably than all the rest, if, in defiance of the law, we brave a king's decree or his powers. Nay, we must remember, first, that we were born women, as who should not strive with men; next, that we are ruled of the stronger, so that we must obey in these things, and in things yet sorer. I, therefore, asking the Spirits Infernal to pardon, seeing that force is put on me herein, will hearken to our rulers. for 'tis witless to be over busy. ~ Sophocles
Noose quotes by Sophocles
Proximity to a noose danger and death ... can make man or woman appreciate things. ~ Louis L'Amour
Noose quotes by Louis L'Amour
Suffering is the nature of this world. It is the golden standard by which all things are measured. It is not happiness that sets the bar, but agony. Even happiness cannot be fully recognized without the right measure of misery to contrast its borders. Suffering magnifies hunger-exhaustion-prods you to move when prosperity is just a dream out of reach. It is the mortal twin of eternal hope. How you respond to its touch molds you, shapes your future as it rains down oppression like fire over your shoulders.
Deception. It laid over my world like a bruise. Covered it so completely I bought the lie that the shadow offered and found comfort nestled in its thorny arms. I walked the trail it dusted with breadcrumb, walked in the slip noose it had skillfully wove and dove off the cliff without realizing- willingly, with vigor.
Heartbreak. There is no bigger void, no darker shade of soot- no ache more unstoppable than that of a broken heart.
A heart in pieces can very much kill you-without love's healing touch, you will surely die.
They say time heals all wounds.
They lied. ~ Addison Moore
Noose quotes by Addison Moore
a noose will serve. Ser Alliser, ~ George R R Martin
Noose quotes by George R R Martin
I don't know how I didn't kill any one of my sisters. For this one horror film we were making, I made my own harness for my sister. I wrapped her in all these ropes, but then also put a noose around her neck and hung her from a tree. Now I think, 'What if my harness didn't work?' I'm so lucky that nothing ever happened. ~ Alexa Vega
Noose quotes by Alexa Vega
These are all 'ghosts'. If you are afraid, the ghosts will possess you. If there is inner fear of 'what if they hang me?'; then one should say, 'yes, that is correct'. The Soul can never be hung; nothing [worldly] can touch the Soul. All the doings are that of the pudgal (matter; non-Self). The noose for hanging is pudgal and the one doing hanging (the hangman), is also pudgal. The Soul has never been hung. This [fact] does not fit one's vision and that is why he has fear. But once his vision becomes like the Gnani's [the enlightened one], then it's over! For that, one has to stay in touch with the Gnani [the enlightened one]. ~ Dada Bhagwan
Noose quotes by Dada Bhagwan
Hell is a library," she said, tightening her fresh knot.

"That really doesn't sound bad, Julia."

"That's because I'm not finished. Hell is a library of books containing every word you've ever said, and videotapes of everything you've ever done."

"So what. Do you have to watch them?"

"No, you don't have to. But would you be able to help yourself? It would be unbearable. I couldn't resist, but I would hate myself after." She gave the noose two good, hard tugs. "Plus, even if you could resist the temptation, you'd eventually get so bored that you'd do anything. And the only thing to read is stuff that you've said and the only thing to do is watch yourself. ~ Ainslie Hogarth
Noose quotes by Ainslie Hogarth
Hanging a noose on my door reeks of cowardice and fear on many, many levels. ~ Madonna Ciccone
Noose quotes by Madonna Ciccone
The genius of the occupation, I came to see, is that the noose is tightened in such infinitesimal increments that the movement is virtually invisible to the rest of the world. ~ Chivvis Moore
Noose quotes by Chivvis Moore
Legislating morality grows big government immensely, and helps fashion the noose the government will use to ultimately hang you by. ~ A.E. Samaan
Noose quotes by A.E. Samaan
When I was twelve years old, I looked in the mirror and I saw what I perceived to be my faults and my mother's faults. These coalesced into a dark mark that I would carry through my life, a coating of what I saw, which came from others' hatred of me, and all this forested a hatred of myself. I thought being unwanted and abandoned and persecuted was the legacy of the poor southern Black woman. But as an adult, I see my mother's legacy anew. I see how all the burdens she bore, the burdens of her history and identity and of our country's history and identity , enable her to manifest her greatest gifts. My mother had the courage to look at four hungry children and find a way to fill them. My mother had the strength to work her body to its breaking point to provide for herself and her children. My mother had the residence to cobble together a family from the broken bits of another. And my mother's example teaches me other things: This how a transplanted people survived a holocaust and slavery. This is how Black people in the South organized to vote under the shadow of terrorism and the noose. This is how human begins sleep and wake and fight and survive. In the end, this is a how a mother teaches her daughter to have courage, to have strength, to be resilient, to open her eyes to what it is, and to make something of it. ~ Jesmyn Ward
Noose quotes by Jesmyn Ward
As the months passed, even the strident voices from the newspapers had begun to moderate, and the passion to put Preston's neck in a noose had become subdued. It was a relief to Adams that with the trial now scheduled for October, he had time to work with Josiah Quincy to prepare a case based on law and reason. And it meant he could spend time with his family and enjoy the wonderful peace of the farm. ~ Jeff Shaara
Noose quotes by Jeff Shaara
Language, like the mouths that hold and release it, is wet & living, each word is wrinkled with age, swollen with other words, with blood, smoothed by the numberless flesh tongues that have passed across it. Your language hangs around your neck, a noose, a heavy necklace; each word is empire, each word is vampire and mother. ~ Margaret Atwood
Noose quotes by Margaret Atwood
As though there were a tie And obligation to posterity. We get them, bear them, breed, and nurse: What has posterity done for us. That we, lest they their rights should lose, Should trust our necks to gripe of noose? ~ John Trumbull
Noose quotes by John Trumbull
But tell me, I beseech you, what man is that would submit his neck to the noose of wedlock, if, as wise men should, he did but first truly weigh the inconvenience of the thing? Or ~ Erasmus
Noose quotes by Erasmus
Every art fights the noose of verbal description. ~ Alex Ross
Noose quotes by Alex Ross
Best Of You

I've got another confession to make
I'm your fool
Everyone's got their chains to break
Holdin' you
Were you born to resist or be abused

Is someone getting the best, the best, the best, the best of you
Is someone getting the best, the best, the best, the best of you
Or are you gone and onto someone new

I needed somewhere to hang my head
Without your noose
You gave me something that I didn't have
But had no use
I was too weak to give in
Too strong to lose
My heart is under arrest again
But I'll break loose
My head is giving me life or death
But I can't choose
I swear I'll never give in
I refuse

Is someone getting the best, the best, the best, the best of you
Is someone getting the best, the best, the best, the best of you
Has someone taken your faith
Its real, the pain you feel
Your trust, you must
Confess
Is someone getting the best, the best, the best, the best of you
Oh...

Oh...Oh...Oh...
Oh...Oh...Oh...
Oh...Oh...Oh...
Oh...

Has someone taken your faith
It's real, the pain you feel
The life, the love
You'd die to heal
The hope that starts
The broken hearts
Your trust, you must
Confess

Is someone getting the best, the best, the best, the best of you
Is someone getting the best, the best, the best, the best of you
Foo Fighters
Noose quotes by Foo Fighters
It was indeed terrible. And to rid myself of the terror I wished to kill myself. I experienced terror at what awaited me -- knew that that terror was even worse than the position I was in, but still I could not patiently await the end. However convincing the argument might be that in any case some vessel in my heart would give way, or something would burst and all would be over, I could not patiently await that end. The horror of darkness was too great, and I wished to free myself from it as quickly as possible by noose or bullet. that was the feeling which drew me most strongly towards suicide. ~ Leo Tolstoy
Noose quotes by Leo Tolstoy
Love is a circular emotion that surrounds you, like a hug. Or a noose. ~ Jarod Kintz
Noose quotes by Jarod Kintz
–I'll just play the notes inside my skull alone in the dark where they roam around loose. 'Cause playing like a slave, I'd just step myself straight into a hangman's noose."
On Sissieretta Jones, Jess writes: "See, Sissie would know how to let folks into one mask and out through another. She'd even raise a toast to the mask, jokin about whether folk–black and white–really believed that the opera was wearing her as a mask, or if it just tickled them to see her puttin on that white mask of Vivaldi. Was it her voice or someone else's? they'd seem to ask. Well, it was all her. Every note, in whiteface or blackface or in just plain old American, went straight down to her bones. That's what I heard when I truly listened, anyway. She'd pour those opera songs all over her body and then dress herself in the church frock of hymns. She told me one time, that in order to hear her true voice, she'd had to ask herself about her own masks. What kind of mask might I have on? she said. Because let me tell you, most don't even know they're wearing a mask. You've got to know which masks, how many masks you're wearing before you can put it down and see your true self. Those that do, they know just how to slide in and out of it, how to make the world spin inside it and out of it. How to spread their song all over that mask and make it one with the world, no matter how thick or thin the truth in that song might be. ~ Tyehimba Jess
Noose quotes by Tyehimba Jess
If the thirsty stag runs to the brook, it's only because he isn't aware of the cruel bow ... If the unicorn runs to its chaste nest, it's only because he doesn't see the noose prepared for him. ~ Deborah Harkness
Noose quotes by Deborah Harkness
( ... ) rest content and satisfied that as you are caught in the noose of love it is one of worth and merit that has taken you, and one that has not only the the four S's that they say true lovers ought to have, but a complete alphabet; only listen to me and you will see how I can repeat it by rote. He is to my eyes and thinking, Amiable, Brave, Courteous, Distinguished, Elegant, Fond, Gay, Honorable, Illustrious, Loyal, Manly, Noble, Open, Polite, Quickwitted, Rich, and the S's according to the saying, and then Tender, Veracious: X does not suite him, for it is a rough letter; Y has been given already; and Z Zealous for your honour. ~ Miguel De Cervantes Saavedra
Noose quotes by Miguel De Cervantes Saavedra
It is a measure of a nation their cunning! It is a measure of a nation their strength! And it is a measure of a nation," I leaned forward and screeched, "their mercy!" I leaned back and surveyed the crowd and for some bizarre reason kept right on shouting. The condemned you see before you have been tried justly and meet their sentence fairly. They have done wrong and they will pay for it. But I am not the Winter Princess of a nation who does not see that even the condemned deserve to be treated with respect as they face death. You may think they do not deserve it but it is your duty as Lunwynians to rise above their actions
not
fall to their depths. They will hang for their crimes and you will watch this sentence carried out.How could that not be enough for you?"

I tore my eyes away from the now whispering crowd as those close sent my words far, feeling Frey's arm still tight around my middle but I ignored it and looked down at the scaffold.

Bring her to her feet," I ordered the guardstanding around Viola and they shifted andstared up at me in stupefaction so I snapped,"
Bring her to her feet!
"They jumped toward Viola who I avoidedlooking at as they helped her up and movedher to her noose. Instead, I looked back tothe crowd and, yep, you guessed it, kept right on shouting.
"Today, you witness something infinitely sad. Three people who have gone wrong somewhere in their lives, done wrong be-cause of it and therefore are paying t ~ Kristen Ashley
Noose quotes by Kristen Ashley
Usually I don't find gore or slasher films scary. What works for me is the slower build where you are tightening the noose around the situation until you are running out of options and then really have no idea what to do. ~ Oren Peli
Noose quotes by Oren Peli
Somewhere, in some shadowy bedroom of a leaf-strewn town, a father bolts the door to a child's room, then steps closer to the bed. In a neighbor's garden lurks a weed with a funny, blade-petaled flower, its poison choking the red roses. Somewhere a car is crashing; a phone is ringing in the center of night. The spider waits poised in the slipper. The bird swoops headlong into glass it thought was farther air. The strangler envisions a neighborhood of throats. The head finds the noose; the foot kicks the chair. ~ Scott Heim
Noose quotes by Scott Heim
Forget the noose. Forget the Iron Maiden. Forget the electric chair or the guillotine. The mind was mankind's most painful torture chamber, the blessed liberty to cogitate offering either doom or salvation, depending on one's disposition. ~ Tiffanie DeBartolo
Noose quotes by Tiffanie DeBartolo
I tell ye true, liberty is the best of all things; never live beneath the noose of a servile halter. ~ William Wallace
Noose quotes by William Wallace
Since Deacon Hollingshead's arrival in town last July the Dominion had been hard at work, cleansing New York City of moral corruption. "Corruption" is a popular word with the enthusiasts of the Dominion, usually uttered as a prelude to the knife, the docket, or the noose. ~ Robert Charles Wilson
Noose quotes by Robert Charles Wilson
After losing my job, I felt the only options available to me were razors, cyanide, or a shot to the face, until Renaldo, being the good friend that he is, reminded me how to tie a noose. ~ Jarod Kintz
Noose quotes by Jarod Kintz
There's only about 6 inches that turns that halo into a noose. ~ Bobby Bowden
Noose quotes by Bobby Bowden
Many women hear the word "feminine" and feel like it's a noose around their neck. "Don't hold me to a mode of behavior because I'm a woman and you think this is how a woman should act," kind of thing. ~ Elizabeth Lesser
Noose quotes by Elizabeth Lesser
What an unreliable thing is time
when I want it to fly, the hours stick to me like glue. And what a changeable thing, too. Time is the twine to tie our lives into parcels of years and months. Or a rubber band stretched to suit our fancy. Time can be the pretty ribbon in a little girl's hair. Or the lines in your face, stealing your youthful colour and your hair ... But in the end, time is a noose around the neck, strangling slowly. ~ Rohinton Mistry
Noose quotes by Rohinton Mistry
Turn on the news, another black man slain. They say "Its okay. Save your voice, don't complain. This isn't about race so stop using that excuse. Now look at this funny picture of Obama in a noose! See how colorblind we are? You're not really black to me. Underneath, where it all matters, we both bleed red you see? So put away that race card: it aint 1962. Theres no more segregation, isn't that enough for you? ~ Nic Stone
Noose quotes by Nic Stone
We want a little light to live by. A start somewhere. Little steps for little feet. Or even something commanding, scriptural or mighty. I myself am discouraged to finding a hot lead on the Altogether. Like every child of the century deluded enough to keep his head out of the noose, I expect God's Mercy in the end. Nevertheless, I frequently feel that anybody's refusal to commit suicide is a little fey. Walking about as though nothing were wrong is just too studied for the alert ~ Thomas McGuane
Noose quotes by Thomas McGuane
WE ARE

We are the lost ones

Seeking refuge in dark alleys

Told we are not forgotten

We are a past generation's hope

Asking daily for forgiveness

Viewed as misbegotten

We are restorers of humanity

Who punished betrayers of justice

Now the hangman in his own noose

We are the select few

Wandering parks and streets

Lost in a sea of endless faces

We are the faded photographs

Stored in an attic

Yearning to finish our missions

We are both the young and the old

Poised on the cliff's edge

Thinking of a last goodnight

We are our nation's warriors

Destined to become

Line-items in a county's budget ~ Jose N Harris
Noose quotes by Jose N Harris
Within half a century after Butler sent Charles Mallory away from Fortress Monroe empty-handed, the children of white Union and Confederate soldiers united against African-American political and civil equality. This compact of white supremacy enabled southern whites to impose Jim Crow segregation on public space, disfranchise African-American citizens by barring them from the polls, and use the lynch-mob noose to enforce black compliance. White Americans imposed increased white supremacy outside the South, too. In non-Confederate states, many restaurants wouldn't serve black customers. Stores and factories refused to hire African Americans. Hundreds of midwestern communities forcibly evicted African-American residents and became "sundown towns" ("Don't let the sun set on you in this town"). Most whites, meanwhile, believed that ~ Edward E. Baptist
Noose quotes by Edward E. Baptist
You ever think about the noose?'

'I been thinking about the noose since I was born. ~ Stacey Lee
Noose quotes by Stacey Lee
the sprawl, is the automobile, the noose ~ Ta-Nehisi Coates
Noose quotes by Ta-Nehisi Coates
Many a necklace becomes a noose. ~ Paul Eldridge
Noose quotes by Paul Eldridge
One morning, in cool blood, I slipped a noose about its neck and hung it to the limb of a tree; - hung it with the tears streaming from my eyes, and with the bitterest remorse at my heart; - hung it because I knew that it had loved me, and because I felt it had given me no reason of offence; - hung it because I knew that in so doing I was committing a sin - a deadly sin that would so jeopardize my immortal soul as to place it - if such a thing were possible - even beyond the reach of the infinite mercy of the Most Merciful and Most Terrible God. ~ Edgar Allan Poe
Noose quotes by Edgar Allan Poe
Magnus pondered the twelve people taking up residence at the Hawk and Spear Inn, realizing that nearly half of them wanted him dead.

"And you're definitely one of them," he muttered as Nic trudged through the meeting hall, glaring as he passed the prince. Magnus was sitting alone at a table in front of a sketchbook he'd found in a drawer in his room. "Cassian, look," he called. "I drew a picture of you."

Magnus raised the sketchbook. His fingers smeared with charcoal, he held up a page on which he'd drawn an image of a skinny boy hanging from a noose, his tongue dangling from his mouth, two morbid Xs where the eyes should have been.

Nic, allegedly a very friendly fellow to everyone else in the world, shot Magnus a look of sheer hatred. "You think that's funny?"

"What? You don't like it? Well, they do say art is subjective. ~ Morgan Rhodes
Noose quotes by Morgan Rhodes
Love rose up like a noose and circled my throat. ~ Melissa Albert
Noose quotes by Melissa Albert
When things are difficult, awful, stressful, the thing that always gets you through is a sense of humour. I don't mean - well, maybe I do - laugh at the hangman as he puts the noose around your neck. But an eye, an ear, for the ridiculous, the absurd in life, can get you through a lot. ~ Paul Merton
Noose quotes by Paul Merton
Jealousy is the lifelong noose hanging about the neck of love. ~ Caitlin Thomas
Noose quotes by Caitlin Thomas
One Greek city state had a fundamental law: anyone proposing revisions to the constitution did so with a noose around his neck. If his proposal lost he was instantly hanged. ~ Aristotle.
Noose quotes by Aristotle.
A politician's word is like a thick tree branch, and the people are all hanging on it. Well, I've got noose for you, politicians won't keep their word, but they will keep you hanging. ~ Jarod Kintz
Noose quotes by Jarod Kintz
Were I ever alone in the dock, I would not want to be arraigned before our flawed tribunals, knowing my freedom could be forfeit as a result of political pressures. I would prefer a fair trial, under the shadow of the noose. ~ Michael Gove
Noose quotes by Michael Gove
According to one account of the New York City schools during the 1950s: The teacher could not technically hit the child, but the old crones found ways of skirting the rules. The push-probe-pull method was popular, in which the teacher would not hit you, but would poke you with her gnarled, witch-like fingers and grab your face like a taffy pull until you screamed. ... The pull-and-choke was also a favorite. It was executed by pulling the compulsory necktie up like a noose, until the errant boy's face turned the school colors. ~ Robert Klein
Noose quotes by Robert Klein
Their love was so forbidden that their very touch could wrap a hangman's noose around them. ~ Victoria Sue
Noose quotes by Victoria Sue
The door creaked open and there he was.
"My star-touched queen," he said. "I missed you."
He walked toward me. In the candle-lit glow of our bedroom, every feature was more pronounced. The sweep of his shoulders, the short hair that curled at his neck. The glow of his skin, honey-drenched and russet. My beautiful nightmare.
I caught his hand in mine, my fingers trailing over the band of leather around his wrist. The noose. Against my skin, the noose was a cold pulse. There was a small knot at its base, lazily tied. He probably hadn't expected it was in any danger.
"We lost an entire day together," he said.
I loosened the silk around my waist and Amar raised an eyebrow. Around him, the shadows rippled silkily. I met his gaze and he stared at me, his breath shallow and waiting. The silk fell noiselessly to the floor.
"We still have the night. ~ Roshani Chokshi
Noose quotes by Roshani Chokshi
As I said, I don't expect you to understand - "
"And I don't," he cut in. "Ye ask how I can live a life that I know will end with the hangman's noose. Well, at least I am alive. Ye might as well have climbed inside yer husband's coffin and let yerself be buried with his corpse."
Her hand flashed out before she'd thought about it, the smack against his cheek loud in the little courtyard.
Silence had her eyes locked with Michael's, her chest rising and falling swiftly, but she was aware that Bert and Harry had looked up. Even Mary and Lad had paused in their play.
Without taking his gaze from hers, Michael reached out and grasped her hand. He raised her hand to his lips and softly kissed the center of her palm.
He looked at her, her hand still at his lips. "Don't take to yer grave afore yer time, Silence, m'love. ~ Elizabeth Hoyt
Noose quotes by Elizabeth Hoyt
They've been promised a full stomach for their success, a noose for their failure... ~ Holly Bodger
Noose quotes by Holly Bodger
No," he said. "Relius was right and I was wrong. You are My Queen. Even though you cut my head from my shoulders, with my last breath as a noose tightens, to the last beat of my heart if I hang from the walls of the palace, you are My Queen. That I have failed you does not change my love for you or my loyalty. ~ Megan Whalen Turner
Noose quotes by Megan Whalen Turner
My mother had removed my intestines and used them to tie a noose around my neck. She just hadn't kick the stool out from under me yet. ~ Francesca Zappia
Noose quotes by Francesca Zappia
Stand here, he thought, and count the lighted windows of a city. You cannot do it. But behind each yellow rectangle that climbs, one over another, to the sky - under each bulb - down to there, see that spark over the river which is not a star? - there are people whom you will never see and who are your masters. At the supper tables, in the drawing rooms, in their beds and in their cellars, in their studies and in their bathrooms. Speeding in the subways under your feet. Crawling up in elevators through vertical cracks around you. Jolting past you in every bus. Your masters, Gail Wynand. There is a net - longer than the cables that coil through the walls of this city, larger than the mesh of pipes that carry water, gas and refuse - there is another hidden net around you; it is strapped to you, and the wires lead to every hand in the city. They jerked the wires and you moved. You were a ruler of men. You held a leash. A leash is only a rope with a noose at both ends. ~ Ayn Rand
Noose quotes by Ayn Rand
Every unnecessary law helps fashion the noose we will ultimately be hung by. ~ A.E. Samaan
Noose quotes by A.E. Samaan
Our age difference is an easy target and a better excuse, but this secret is the Hangman's noose. ~ YellowBella
Noose quotes by YellowBella
The trick to surviving an interrogation is patience. Don't offer up anything. Don't explain. Answer the question and only the question that is asked so you don't accidentally put your head in a noose. ~ Laurie Halse Anderson
Noose quotes by Laurie Halse Anderson
I would not take one cup of coffee from a grower ... There's not a good one. I hate them. A few presents, a little talk, then the noose. That's how capitalism works. ~ Cesar Chavez
Noose quotes by Cesar Chavez
A legal noose still encircled their necks and they couldn't seem to shake it off. Lacey assured the couple he would treat them kindly while they served out the final years of their contract. However, on the trip to St. Louis, they quickly saw that they had, once again, stumbled into a trap. Lacey treated them so badly that the couple decided they had only one move left - they would run. In 1804, they fled into Kentucky, Antoine taking the name Ben. No doubt they hoped to reach Ohio or some other free territory. However, Antoine's wife, drained and exhausted, collapsed by the roadside. While cradled in the arms of the man she loved, she died. ~ Betty DeRamus
Noose quotes by Betty DeRamus
I asked a nurse for dental floss and was told that I am not allowed dental floss. Apparently dental floss can be used for several functions besides the maintenance of healthy gums. These apparently include self-harm. When instructed that I was not permitted dental floss because of "risks it raises associated with suicide" I envisioned a noose made entirely of floss. Realizing such a noose would require a dramatic amount of floss to effectively uphold any human person, I brought it to the attention of a nurse.

"I don't believe that even the most practiced engineers could fashion any functioning noose out of a single container of floss," I say.

"People use it to cut themselves," she explained.

"Oh," I replied.

I had just about come to terms with the no-floss rule until the hospital, in a flagrant display of disrespect for its patients, chose to serve us corn on the cob for lunch.

"Are you aware that we are not allowed dental floss?" I yelled at the nurse bringing me the corn. I then threw the corn violently from my plate into the nearest wall. ~ Emily R. Austin
Noose quotes by Emily R. Austin
You will find that we simply provided the noose. You built the gallows, mounted the steps, put your neck in the rope, and jumped. ~ Thomm Quackenbush
Noose quotes by Thomm Quackenbush
The noose around a man's neck is tighter than that of his fists ~ Aaron Ozee
Noose quotes by Aaron Ozee
Not nature, but the "genius of mankind," has knotted the hangman's noose with which it can execute itself at any moment. ~ Carl Jung
Noose quotes by Carl Jung
What is going to happen to the Aurorans?"
"They are prisoners of war," Albion said. "I should imagine they will be set to work at the base of the Spire."
Grimm tightened his jaw. "No, sir."
"No?"
"No, sir," Grimm said. "I've seen that place. You might as well tie a noose around their necks and stand them on blocks of ice, if you want them to die a slow death. It will be cleaner."
"I'm not sure why this concerns you, Captain," Albion said.
"Because they surrendered to me," Grimm said. "They gave me their parole, sir. They could have fought on with no real chance of victory, and it would have been bloody. But that surrender saved blood and lives of Albions and Aurorans alike. I will not see Captain Castillo repaid with such churlish treatment. ~ Jim Butcher
Noose quotes by Jim Butcher
In the farthest corner of the third floor, Jonto - Emery's skeletal paper butler - hung by a noose from a nail in the ceiling, hovering over a mess of rolled paper tubes, tape, and symmetrical cuts of paper. Emery, wearing his newest coat, a maroon-colored one, stood on a stool beside him, affixing a six-foot-long bat wing to Jonto's spine.

Ceony blinked, taking in the sight. She really shouldn't be surprised.

"I thought I had a few more years before I saw the angel of death," she said, folding her arms under her breasts. "Even just half of him. ~ Charlie N. Holmberg
Noose quotes by Charlie N. Holmberg
My closet's so full of memories and fearful homosexuals that I have nowhere to hang my clothes. Well, that and I don't know how to tie a noose. I'm making meatloaf on a stick if you want to come over later and help me prosecute my entire wardrobe. ~ Jarod Kintz
Noose quotes by Jarod Kintz
You only have to glance at the daily news to see how passions are stirred by claims of exclusive loyalty to one's own kin, one's own clan, one's own country, and one's own church. These ties that bind are vital to our communities and our lives, but they can also be twisted into a noose. ~ Bill Moyers
Noose quotes by Bill Moyers
I dropped my gardening tools, threw my bicycle over a hedge and went in search of fortunes laid beneath the hangman's noose. ~ Fennel Hudson
Noose quotes by Fennel Hudson
Money. It fits around your neck like some permanent noose. always waiting for your next misstep. ~ Carew Papritz
Noose quotes by Carew Papritz
A happy childhood can't be cured. Mine'll hang around my neck like a rainbow, that's all, instead of a noose. ~ Hortense Calisher
Noose quotes by Hortense Calisher
Val turned, still naked, still impossibly beautiful. Only the gore spattered on his belly, chest, and arm, marred his perfection.
He walked toward her and she couldn't help it. She backed away from him.
He smiled.
Sweetly. Like a boy. The dagger still in his left hand. And caught her arm with his right hand.
"This is who I am, Séraphine. Naked, with blade and blood. I am vengeance. I am hate. I am sin personified. Never mistake me for the hero of this tale, for I am not and shall never be. I am the villain."
And he laid his lips over hers and pushed his hot tongue into her mouth and kissed her until she couldn't breathe and it was only later that she found the bloodstains on her dress.

Her lips had been sweet, like ripe figs, her mouth a cavern of delight. But her eyes- those dark inquisitor's eyes- had held only horror and disgust.
Val sipped his China tea the next morning and gazed out the window. The sun shone on his garden, giving the illusion of warmth, though his empty chest was ice-cold.
He could have explained to her that a razor-sharp blade was kinder than a hangman's noose. That death delivered in seconds with a few thrusts was preferable to a laughing, jabbering mob, gleeful at the jerking, agonizing execution.
But those saint's eyes would've seen the hypocrisy. ~ Elizabeth Hoyt
Noose quotes by Elizabeth Hoyt
A noose around the neck was still a noose even if it was encrusted with diamonds. ~ Salla Simukka
Noose quotes by Salla Simukka
I tried to think what I had loved knives for, but my mind slipped from the noose of the thought and swung, like a bird, in the centre of empty air. ~ Sylvia Plath
Noose quotes by Sylvia Plath
Her eyes bulged as the noose slowly choked the life out of her. Yet still they burned into his. ~ Shane K.P. O'Neill
Noose quotes by Shane K.P. O'Neill
Knowledge is a rope, and you're weaving a noose out of it. Leave some slack for the enemy. ~ Nenia Campbell
Noose quotes by Nenia Campbell
Dorothea is a Grey," he pointed out. "Any member of her family would pause on the gallows to exchange witty banter with the hangman before graciously putting the noose about his neck with his own hands. ~ Diana Gabaldon
Noose quotes by Diana Gabaldon
Silently, she wondered whether this was the same desperation, the same impotence that grips many men by their shirts, their T-shirts, their work vests, gripping them equally hard, shaking them and leading them to drink,to beating or the noose. Was this it? ~ Panashe Chigumadzi
Noose quotes by Panashe Chigumadzi
We need a soul, my lord. You said so yourself. If I do as you ask, the sadhvi must take his place. A soul for a soul."
Amar wasn't laughing anymore. The muscles in his neck tightened. His jaw clenched. But he didn't say anything. Nritti's grip on the noose turned her knuckles white. She was controlling him. I bit back a snarl.
Nritti turned back to me and her face was triumphant. "No soul, no bargain."
Kamala shinnied, pulling against Gupta. I dropped my gaze to the ground, my heart frantic when I saw my sandals--mud crusted, tearing at the seams. I grinned. Don't worry, Kamala, I thought, I'm not dying.
"I have one."
When I spoke, my gaze was for Amar alone.
"Here," I said, tearing off the sandal and throwing it at Nritti's feet, "a sole for a soul."
Kamala began to laugh and the deranged sound pitched off the walls, scattering between the bodies of the dark Otherworld beings. They stood slack-jawed and still. Only their eyes moved--bounding between me and Nritti and back. Before Nritti could speak, a creaking sound clattered through the room.
Amar scooped the dirtied sandal in one hand before pulling me away from Nritti. His grip crushed into my arm, strong as iron. But there was something else…he was trembling. I could feel it through my skin.

Noose quotes by Stephen King
Relationships are ropes. Love is a noose. - Durzo Blint ~ Brent Weeks
Noose quotes by Brent Weeks
Young writers if they are to mature require a period of between three and seven years in which to live down their promise. Promise is like the mediaeval hangman who after settling the noose, pushed his victim off the platform and jumped on his back, his weight acting a drop while his jockeying arms prevented the unfortunate from loosening the rope. When he judged him dead he dropped to the ground. ~ Cyril Connolly
Noose quotes by Cyril Connolly
But I will hold on hope
And I won't let you choke
On the noose around your neck
And I'll find strength in pain
And I will change my ways
I'll know my name as it's called again ~ Mumford & Sons
Noose quotes by Mumford & Sons
I looked at him and love filled me. I loved him with the force of a thousand lifetimes, made greater by the fact that my love was returned.
I clasped his hands around the noose. A touch of color returned to his cheeks.
"You are my life too," I said and then I pressed my lips to his. ~ Roshani Chokshi
Noose quotes by Roshani Chokshi
Give all your worries to him, because he cares about you" (1 Pet. 5:7). (The German word for worry means "to strangle." The Greek word means "to divide the mind." Both are accurate. Worry is a noose on the neck and a distraction of the mind, neither of which is befitting for joy.) ~ Max Lucado
