Every child in America who enters school at the age of five is mentally ill, because he comes to school with an allegiance toward our elected officials, toward our founding fathers, toward our institutions, toward the preservation of this form of government that we have. Patriotism, nationalism, and sovereignty, all that proves that children are sick because a truly well individual is one who has rejected all of those things, and is truly the international child of the future. ~ Chester Middlebrook Pierce
Mayar International School quotes by Chester Middlebrook Pierce
When the ancient Romans would conquer a new place or a new people, they would leave the language and the customs in tact – they would even let the conquered people rule themselves in most cases, appointing a governor to maintain a foothold in the region." Wilson leaned against the whiteboard as he spoke, his posture relaxed, his hands clasped loosely."This was part of what made Rome so successful. They didn't try to make everyone Romans in the process of conquering them. When I went to Africa with the Peace Corp, a woman who worked with the Corp said something to me that I have often thought about since. She told me 'Africa is not going to adapt to you. You are going to have to adapt to Africa.' That is true of wherever you go, whether it's school or whether it's in the broader world. ~ Amy Harmon
Mayar International School quotes by Amy Harmon
This was when he first suspected that the kindly child-loving God extolled by his headmistress might not exist. As it turned out, most major world events suggested the same. But for Theo's sincerely godless generation, the question hasn't come up. No one in his bright, plate-glass, forward-looking school ever asked him to pray, or sing an impenetrable cheery hymn. There's no entity for him to doubt. His initiation, in front of the TV, before the dissolving towers, was intense but he adapted quickly. These days he scans the papers for fresh developments the way he might a listings magazine. As long as there's nothing new, his mind is free. International terror, security cordons, preparations for war - these represent the steady state, the weather. Emerging into adult consciousness, this is the world he finds. ~ Ian McEwan
Mayar International School quotes by Ian McEwan
While it is OK to give school children prizes for 'effort'
my kids get them all the time
I think international statesmen should probably be held to a higher standard, ~ Gideon Rachman
Mayar International School quotes by Gideon Rachman
In school I studied international business and marketing, so I've always been attracted to business. ~ Apolo Ohno
Mayar International School quotes by Apolo Ohno
If the UN and other international multilateral institutions are sending troops and weaponry, now they must begin to fund training and leadership development at the same levels. The new war must start with the quality of beliefs and dreams that are planted into the hearts and minds of school children at a personal level and permeate the driving philosophies of entire societies and communities. ~ Archibald Marwizi
Mayar International School quotes by Archibald Marwizi
The challenge to which these two groups responded was the interdependence of human kind, North and South, Rich and Pool, Industrialised and Rural, in the aftermath of the Second World War. To the United World College group it called for the establishment of a new kind of school where young people of all nations and backgrounds could live and learn together at the most formative period of their adolescence and so form those ties of friendship and understanding that would last them through their lives ~ Prince Charles HRH The Prince Of Wales
Mayar International School quotes by Prince Charles HRH The Prince Of Wales
There is no more important homework than reading. Research shows that the highest achieving students are those who devote leisure time to reading, even when the school day and year are only mid-length and homework isn't excessive. Recently, the largest-ever international study of reading found that the single most important predictor of academic success is the amount of time children spend reading books, more important even than economic or social status. And one of the few predictors of high achievement in math and science is the amount of time children devote to pleasure reading. ~ Nancie Atwell
Mayar International School quotes by Nancie Atwell
The winners of the 15th Interschool Environmental Public Speaking competition were: Ambassador Private School, Star International School, Dubai National School (Girls), Al Barsha and Dubai National School (Boys), Al Barsha.Overall winners were Ambassador Private School and overall 1st runner-up: Dubai National School (Girls), Al Barsha and overall 2nd Runner-up: Star International School. ~ Anonymous
Mayar International School quotes by Anonymous
I never planned on being an actress, just as I never planned on being a model. I went to law and international-relations school. It wasn't my direction. It kind of happened to me. And because it wasn't my dream when I started, I wasn't starstruck. ~ Gal Gadot
Mayar International School quotes by Gal Gadot
There's this accent that I think everybody has when they grow up going to an international school. It's a mix of not quite English, not quite American. When I moved to L.A., it just went completely American. ~ Daniela Ruah
Mayar International School quotes by Daniela Ruah
I kind of was beginning to feel like I was being underutilized [as Teen Ambassador to the UN]. I mean, there were a lot more important issues out there for teens that I could have been bringing international attention to than what kids see out their windows. I mean, instead of sitting in the White House press office for three hours after school every Wednesday, or attending International Festival of the Child concerts, I could have been out there alerting the public to the fact that in some countries, it is still perfectly legal for men to take teen brides -- even multiple teen brides! What was that all about?

And what about places like Sierra Leone, where teens and even younger kids routinely get their limbs chopped off as "warnings" against messing with the warring gangs that run groups of diamond traffickers? And hello, what about all those kids in countries with unexploded land mines buried in the fields where they'd like to play soccer, but can't because it's too dangerous?

And how about a problem a little closer to home? How about all the teenagers right here in America who are taking guns to school and blowing people away? Where are they getting these guns, and how come they think shooting people is a viable solution to their problems? And why isn't anybody doing anything to alleviate some of the pressures that might lead someone to think bringing a gun to school is a good thing? How come nobody is teaching people like Kris Parks to be more tolera ~ Meg Cabot
Mayar International School quotes by Meg Cabot
The challenge of ending displacement is inseparable from the challenge of establishing and maintaining peace. When wars end, farmers return to their fields; children return to school; violence against women declines; trade and economic activity resume; medical and other services become more accessible, and the international focus changes from relief to development and self-sufficiency. All this makes new wars less likely. It is a virtuous cycle that deserves nurture and support. ~ Kenneth Bacon
Mayar International School quotes by Kenneth Bacon
I went to an international school in Holland, and I didn't have any memories of growing up in the United States or England or any of these places which other novelists are able to write about in relation to their childhoods. ~ Joseph O'Neill
Mayar International School quotes by Joseph O'Neill
A drone is often preferred for missions that are too "dull, dirty, or dangerous" for manned aircraft."

PROLOGUE

The graffiti was in Spanish, neon colors highlighting the varicose cracks in the wall. It smelled of urine and pot. The front door was metal with four bolt locks and the windows were frosted glass, embedded with chicken wire. They swung out and up like big fake eye-lashes held up with a notched adjustment bar.

This was a factory building on the near west side of Cleveland in an industrial area on the Cuyahoga River known in Ohio as The Flats.

First a sweatshop garment factory, then a warehouse for imported cheeses then a crack den for teenage potheads. It was now headquarters for Magic Slim, the only pimp in Cleveland with his own film studio and training facility.

Mayar International School quotes by J.K. Rowling
Cassidy readily understood that most dreamy high school thespians would not become international movie stars; most tots prancing across stages wearing rhinestone tiaras would not become Miss America; most ROTC standouts would not become heroes or astronauts.
But at the same time he was pretty sure that a few would. He had to believe in his heart that some of them would do these things. He understood that, even if Gary Castleton did not. ~ John L. Parker Jr.
Mayar International School quotes by John L. Parker Jr.
We believe an international women's movement needs to focus less on holding conventions or lobbying for new laws, and more time in places like rural Zimbabwe, listening to communities and helping them get their girls into school. ~ Nicholas D. Kristof
Mayar International School quotes by Nicholas D. Kristof
But first I want to get my master's degree at Columbia's School of International Public Affairs. ~ Christy Romano
Mayar International School quotes by Christy Romano
Tracking in elementary school was a uniquely American policy. The sorting began at a very young age, and it came in the form of magnet schools, honors classes, Advanced Placement courses, or International Baccalaureate programs. In fact, the United States was one of the few countries where schools not only divided younger children by ability, but actually taught different content to the more advanced track. In other countries, including Germany and Singapore, all kids were meant to learn the same challenging core content; the most advanced kids just went deeper into the material. ~ Amanda Ripley
Mayar International School quotes by Amanda Ripley
Beauty is startling. She wears a gold shawl in the summer and sells seven kinds of honey at the flea market. She is young and old at once, my daughter and my grandmother. In school she excelled in mathematics and poetry ... Beauty will dance with anyone who is brave enough to ask her. ~ J. Ruth Gendler
Mayar International School quotes by J. Ruth Gendler
Our form of compulsory schooling is an invention of the State of Massachusetts around 1850. It was resisted - sometimes with guns - by an estimated eighty percent of the Massachusetts population, the last outpost in Barnstable on Cape Cod not surrendering its children until the 1880s, when the area was seized by militia and children marched to school under guard. ~ John Taylor Gatto
Mayar International School quotes by John Taylor Gatto
I never did drama in high school or anything like that. I just kind of fell into it after college, and I pursued it on my own. ~ Ki Hong Lee
Mayar International School quotes by Ki Hong Lee
When general relativity was first put forward in 1915, the math was very unfamiliar to most physicists. Now we teach general relativity to advanced high school students. ~ Brian Greene
Mayar International School quotes by Brian Greene
If I had gone to drama school, I wouldn't be sitting here now because it would have blanded me out; it would have just turned me into another actor. ~ Peter Capaldi
Mayar International School quotes by Peter Capaldi
I'm a bit of a fraud, really, as I didn't study acting at a drama school. ~ Celia Imrie
Mayar International School quotes by Celia Imrie
My idea of government support was, you supply me with hospitals, schools and the environment to do well and that will do me fine. But do not poke your nose in my business. ~ Alan Sugar
Mayar International School quotes by Alan Sugar
Baby, that's grammar school. Any damn fool can beg up some
kind of job; it takes a wise man to make it without working. Out
here we call it hustling. I'd like to be a good hustler. ~ Charles Bukowski
Mayar International School quotes by Charles Bukowski
I have a nut allergy. When I was at school the other children used to make me play Russian roulette but force-feeding me a packet of Revels. ~ Milton Jones
Mayar International School quotes by Milton Jones
The only school that let me in was U.C. Santa Cruz, which is where I went. They didn't have a journalism program, so I took sociology, which is the closest thing to journalism. ~ David Talbot
Mayar International School quotes by David Talbot
The very first time I got to drive by myself, I took a bunch of my friends to school and was caught by a motorcycle cop going 90 miles an hour on a back street. ~ Cheech Marin
Mayar International School quotes by Cheech Marin
Like many parents after a long family holiday, I usually welcome the moment when my kids head back to school. ~ Jose Andres
Mayar International School quotes by Jose Andres
We must have an economy that does not force the migrant worker's child to miss school in order to earn ... just so the family can eat. That is the moral bankruptcy that trickle-down economics is all about. ~ Barbara Jordan
Mayar International School quotes by Barbara Jordan
No, you have to finish school. The wind turbines need you. There's possibly an apocalypse on the way." I felt like an apocalypse was happening right now, a personal one. I felt as if I'd waited to start living my life until she came. "We'll work things out," I said. "The important thing is that we need to be together." Most of my clients owned at least one masterpiece they knew they could never part with. I had apparently acquired mine. ~ Annabel Joseph
Mayar International School quotes by Annabel Joseph
I grew up in the dance school my mother owned, and I see everything in body shapes, everything visual. ~ Dawn Angelique
Mayar International School quotes by Dawn Angelique
We have the ability to choose, we are God's higher form of creation, we surpass all other forms of life and we don't use the mental faculties we've been given. We don't even understand what we are capable of doing. School doesn't teach us anything about ourselves. So the more we learn about ourselves, the more we take control over our life. ~ Bob Proctor
Mayar International School quotes by Bob Proctor
The only damn thing I ever learned in all my years in art school was a piece is never done, it is just finished. You have to trust your inner voice, your instincts, when they tell you pencils down. And you roll up your sleeves and you start over again. ~ Brian Michael Bendis
Mayar International School quotes by Brian Michael Bendis
Gradual school is where you go to school and you gradually find out you don't want to go to school anymore. ~ Robin Williams
Mayar International School quotes by Robin Williams
We drove in a kind of wholesome silence, carrying our whole long marriage, all the hope and kindness that it represented, with us. What it felt like was sitting in Sunday school singing "Jesus loves me," sitting in the little chairs, surrounded by sunlight and bright drawings, and having those first inklings of doubt, except that doubt presents itself simply as added knowledge, something new, for the moment, to set beside what is already known. ~ Jane Smiley
Mayar International School quotes by Jane Smiley
Flexner's good intentions had laid the groundwork for the specialty- and research-dominated system of medical education that still stands- the more prestigious the school, the greater the emphasis on biomedical research and the less the emphasis on pragmatic medical care. ~ John Abramson
Mayar International School quotes by John Abramson
Belonging to the Catholic Church gives your support to an organization that conceals and protects child rapists. Again, not as a few isolated incidents, but as a massive, institution-wide culture, a matter of policy even, that extends throughout the organization and reaches all the way to the top. Belonging to the Catholic Church - giving them money, letting them count you in their rolls, sending your children to their schools - gives this behavior your personal thumbs-up, and actively enables it to continue. ~ Greta Christina
Mayar International School quotes by Greta Christina
Humphrey Not another czar, please, Prime Minister. In the last three years we've appointed an Enterprise Czar, a Youth-Crime Czar, a Welfare Supremo, a Pre-School Supremo, an Unemployment Watchdog, a Banking Regulator, a Science and Technology Supremo and a Community Policing Czar. If you go on like this you won't need a Cabinet.
Jim Perfect!
Humphrey Perfect? Prime Minister, we even have a Twitter Czar!
Bernard His appointment was announced as a Tweet.
Humphrey What's he supposed to achieve?
Jim The same as the others: at least twelve column inches in every paper. ~ Jonathan Lynn & Anthony Jay
Mayar International School quotes by Jonathan Lynn & Anthony Jay
I did a lot of theater when I was in high school and college. I also did stand-up in college, so it was always part of what I did. ~ Seth MacFarlane
Mayar International School quotes by Seth MacFarlane
Empathy is patiently and sincerely seeing the world through the other person's eyes. It is not learned in school; it is cultivated over a lifetime. ~ Albert Einstein
Mayar International School quotes by Albert Einstein
I went to drama school at New York University. ~ Molly Shannon
Mayar International School quotes by Molly Shannon
We will not find the solution to problems of violence, alienation, ignorance, and unhappiness in increasing our security, imposing more tests, punishing schools for their failure to produce 100 percent proficiency, or demanding that teachers be knowledgeable in the subjects they teach. Instead, we must allow teachers and students to interact as whole persons, and we must develop policies that treat the school as a whole community. ~ Nel Noddings
Mayar International School quotes by Nel Noddings
Diplomas are ill-purposed. What should be celebrated is not the culmination of twelve years sitting in a school desk; what an 18-year-old should be recognized for is making it through young adulthood without getting herself killed. ~ Kari Martindale
Mayar International School quotes by Kari Martindale
Do you mean ter tell me," he growled at the Dursleys, "that this boy - this boy! - knows nothin' abou' - about ANYTHING?"
Harry thought this was going a bit far. He had been to school, after all, and his marks weren't bad.
"I know some things," he said. "I can, you know, do math and stuff. ~ J.K. Rowling
Mayar International School quotes by J.K. Rowling
I was just like a pathological liar when I was a kid. I think I just wanted to one-up somebody. Somebody would be like, 'Oh, God, my legs hurt.' I'd be like, 'Your legs hurt? I'm getting mine amputated next week.' And that's actually how my mother found out. She came to school and somebody was like, 'God, that's such a shame about Jennifer's legs.' She made me purge. I had to spill out all of my lies. I was like, 'I said that Dad drove a barge, and we were millionaires, and you were pregnant, I had to get my legs amputated, and I spayed cats and dogs on the weekends.' Now I can't lie. ~ Jennifer Lawrence
