This election is about the past vs. the future. It's about whether we settle for the same divisions and distractions and drama that passes for politics today or whether we reach for a politics of common sense and innovation, a politics of shared sacrifice and shared prosperity. There are those who will continue to tell us that we can't do this, that we can't have what we're looking for, that we can't have what we want, that we're peddling false hopes. But here is what I know. I know that when people say we can't overcome all the big money and influence in Washington, I think of that elderly woman who sent me a contribution the other day, an envelope that had a money order for $3.01 along with a verse of scripture tucked inside the envelope. So don't tell us change isn't possible. That woman knows change is possible. When I hear the cynical talk that blacks and whites and Latinos can't join together and work together, I'm reminded of the Latino brothers and sisters I organized with and stood with and fought with side by side for jobs and justice on the streets of Chicago. So don't tell us change can't happen. When I hear that we'll never overcome the racial divide in our politics, I think about that Republican woman who used to work for Strom Thurmond, who is now devoted to educating inner city-children and who went out into the streets of South Carolina and knocked on doors for this campaign. Don't tell me we can't change. Yes, we can. Yes, we can change. Yes, we can.
Barack Obama
Hope Obama quotes by Barack Obama
For a guy who believes in hope, Obama doesn't seem to be able to spread much of it around. How can he? We know too much now about the hollowness of institutions and the frailty of their leaders. ~ Tina Brown
Hope Obama quotes by Tina Brown
I hope Obama gets scary in the next four years, 'cuz he ain't gotta worry about getting re-elected. ~ Samuel L. Jackson
Hope Obama quotes by Samuel L. Jackson
We will have to give up the hope that, if we try hard, we somehow will always do right by our children. The connection is imperfect. We will sometimes do wrong. ~ Judith Viorst
Hope Obama quotes by Judith Viorst
Say you're an American novelist, published by the largest publishing house in the world. Their goal is to make as much money from you as possible, to have as many people read your book in as many formats as possible. How can you hope to speak intimately to the numbers of people that represent the book sales required? ~ Joshua Cohen
Hope Obama quotes by Joshua Cohen
My folks were English. They were too poor to be British. I still have a bit of British in me. In fact, my blood type is solid marmalade. ~ Bob Hope
Hope Obama quotes by Bob Hope
Everything is emotional because hope is… When I talk to people I no longer see rational beings engaged in rational discourse, I see objects, emoting. It has made me such a deep materialist that I see everything as objects, people, dogs, trees, rocks- objects that burn with the animation of hope, each engaged in their own private miracle of being. And the things that people make, the buildings and machines, the paintings and the poems, are artificial miracles, which glow from the light borrowed from their makers. ~ Paul Shepheard
Hope Obama quotes by Paul Shepheard
A man of courage is also full of faith. ~ Marcus Tullius Cicero
Hope Obama quotes by Marcus Tullius Cicero
I felt like my vote was the vote that put [Obama] into office. It was down to one vote, and that was going to be my vote. And that may not be true, but that's how much power it felt like I had. ~ Puff Daddy
Hope Obama quotes by Puff Daddy
When I started writing Forest Life, I was suicidal and drunk because I had lost someone I love to a tragedy. Afterward, my question was this: why love when death and suffering are inevitable? I won't reveal my solution to this problem, but I do present it in the pages of the book. These are only a few of the issues I grapple with in the story and I hope that you'll read the story and consciously address your own uncertainty and fear." - Shane Crash, Provoketive Magazine Write-Up 2012 ~ Shane Crash
Hope Obama quotes by Shane Crash
A brick could be used like a fleeglebeegle, which in turn could be used like a zoopkatofka, which itself could be used like a Wexlybexter Device (the one with the hand crank, not the one with the foot peddles). Gosh, I hope I clarified at least one thing for you. ~ Jarod Kintz
Hope Obama quotes by Jarod Kintz
Maybe hope isn't the most dangerous thing a person can have. Maybe love is. ~ Lauren DeStefano
Hope Obama quotes by Lauren DeStefano
Why doesn't he say something to her?
But I knew why. Because there's the creeping fear that these moments don't actually exist outside your own head. No eyes meet across a crowded room, no two people thing precisely the same thing, and if only one person actually has that moment, is it even really a moment at all?
We know this, so we say nothing. We avert our eyes, or pretend to be looking for change, we hope the other person will take the initiative, because we don't want to risk losing this feeling of excitement and possibilities and lust. It's too perfect. That little second of hope is worth something, possibly for ever, as we lie on out deathbeds, surrounded by our children, and our grandchildren and our great-grandchildren, and we can't help but quickly give on last selfish, dying thought to what could have happened if we'd actually said hello to that girl in the Uggs selling CDs outside Nando's seventy-four years earlier. ~ Danny Wallace
Hope Obama quotes by Danny Wallace
Are we labouring at some Work too vast for us to perceive? Are our passions and desires mere whips and traces by the help of which we are driven? Any theory seems more hopeful than the thought that all our eager, fretful lives are but the turning of a useless prison crank. Looking back the little distance that our dim eyes can penetrate the past, what do we find? Civilizations, built up with infinite care, swept aside and lost. Beliefs for which men lived and died, proved to be mockeries. Greek Art crushed to the dust by Gothic bludgeons. Dreams of fraternity, drowned in blood by a Napoleon. What is left to us, but the hope that the work itself, not the result, is the real monument? Maybe, we are as children, asking, "Of what use are these lessons? What good will they ever be to us?" But there comes a day when the lad understands why he learnt grammar and geography, when even dates have a meaning for him. But this is not until he has left school, and gone out into the wider world. So, perhaps, when we are a little more grown up, we too may begin to understand the reason for our living ~ Jerome K. Jerome
Hope Obama quotes by Jerome K. Jerome
Who has believed in the world and died with its name on his lips? ~ Jack Kerouac
Hope Obama quotes by Jack Kerouac
And as I had lifted no petition to Heaven to avert it - as I had neither joined my hands, nor bent my knees, nor moved my lips - it came: in full heavy swing the torrent poured over me. The whole consciousness of my life lorn, my love lost, my hope quenched, my faith death-struck, swayed full and mighty above me in one sullen mass. ~ Charlotte Bronte
Hope Obama quotes by Charlotte Bronte
Quite frankly, I would prefer to have a non-Christian like Mitt Romney who at least pretends to embrace biblical principles over a professing Christian like Barack Obama who embraces very unbiblical positions on abortion. ~ Robert Jeffress
Hope Obama quotes by Robert Jeffress
Life cannot be exchange for anything. ~ Lailah Gifty Akita
Hope Obama quotes by Lailah Gifty Akita
Yesterday was the New York City Marathon. Republicans won in a landslide. ~ David Letterman
Hope Obama quotes by David Letterman
I prefer not to call them demons. It demeans their nature.
"But isn't that what they are?"
"We should pity them more than fear them Alfred. They were angels once."
"Yea, but didn't you say they rebelled against God? They got what they deserved."
"Perhaps." He sighed. "Yet do we not all hope and pray that we ourselves escape that we truly deserve? None have fallen as far or as irrevocably as the outcasts of heaven. Did you not find them beautiful." " ... They have gazed upon the very face of God, the face they will see no more for all eternity-and so I pity them. Even as I envy them for having seen it. ~ Rick Yancey
Hope Obama quotes by Rick Yancey
Our journey is not complete until all our children ... know that they are cared for and cherished and always safe from harm. ~ Barack Obama
Hope Obama quotes by Barack Obama
If this investigation is as eventful as I'm hoping it will be, it will be traumatizing for all of us," Luke said.
"Oh, please don't hope that," Michael deadpanned. ~ Jacqueline E. Smith
Hope Obama quotes by Jacqueline E. Smith
Hey, what about you? That monastery didn't make you soft, I hope." "The Cistercians?" Chris laughed. "Make me soft? They're the toughest order in the Catholic Church." "They really don't talk?" "Not only that. They believe in brutal daily work. I might as well have spent another six years in Special Forces. ~ David Morrell
Hope Obama quotes by David Morrell
If you really want your films to say something that you hope is unique, then patience and stamina, thick skin and a kind of stupidity, a mule-like stupidity, is what you really need. ~ Terry Gilliam
Hope Obama quotes by Terry Gilliam
Even when all is falling apart there is still hope in the world. Hope, a shining beacon that allows love, kindness, and happiness to pour through to the world. Let us, all together, combine our hope, our hope for a better future, and work toward all of our success. Let us be in unity as we venture into the great unknown. ~ Avina Celeste
Hope Obama quotes by Avina Celeste
The dawn is brief and the day full often belies its promise. ~ J.R.R. Tolkien
Hope Obama quotes by J.R.R. Tolkien
You can't help wondering if this is the year that you'd be getting a good story again. It was the same thing you wondered last year, and the year before that, and the year before that. In light of everything and in spite of everything, it seems foolish to expect and demand for anything. It seems foolish to even hope. Yet, you still do. ~ Marla Miniano
Hope Obama quotes by Marla Miniano
Empower yourselves with a good education, then get out there and use that education to build a country worthy of your boundless promise. ~ Michelle Obama
Hope Obama quotes by Michelle Obama
When I finally gave up any hope of doing anything representative of the American family, I actually seemed to have tapped into other people's weirdness in that way. ~ Jonathan Franzen
Hope Obama quotes by Jonathan Franzen
I am quite ready to acknowledge ... that I ought to be grieved at death, if I were not persuaded that I am going to other gods who are wise and good (of this I am as certain as I can be of any such matters), and to men departed who are better than those whom I leave behind. And therefore I do not grieve as I might have done, for I have good hope that there is yet something remaining for the dead. ~ Socrates
Hope Obama quotes by Socrates
The thing I didn't see back then is that people can be destroyed by goodness. Damage can be done by hope. If people aren't ready for hope, it's a cruel trick to put it on their doorstep. ~ Barbara Hall
Hope Obama quotes by Barbara Hall
This is exactly how falling in love should be in my opinion. It should be scary yet unflinching. We should fear it but know that it's worth the risk and we should throw ourselves full throttle into the darkness with nothing but hope to guide us. And, like learning to ride a bike, once we learn to love we never forget how and it seems we only become ~ Neltje Blanchan
Hope Obama quotes by Neltje Blanchan
We now live in a world where the most valuable skill you can sell is knowledge. ~ Barack Obama
Hope Obama quotes by Barack Obama
Prolific irony - For 8 years, the finger on the button that could end the world belonged to a president who couldn't pronounce the word nuclear. ~ T. Rafael Cimino
Hope Obama quotes by T. Rafael Cimino

We came to the world with love and hope
We are the creation of hope, faith and love. ~ Debasish Mridha
