Becoming a writer is a lifelong journey. It cannot be learned in a day or even a month or a year. We will never fully learn all there is to know about our craft, and even if we did we wouldn't realize it. We are filled with self-doubt by nature, and many of us will work our entire lives to master the art of the written word without ever recognizing the true talent we possess. Writing is a personal journey of self-discovery and growth, and should be honored as such. If you wonder about my best writing, I would say it came without warning, in moments when I was most vulnerable - with the door shut and my heart split wide open. ~ Shanda Trofe Write From The Heart
Discovery quotes by Shanda Trofe Write From The Heart
Why is it that one of the best songs in the world has to be written by the BeeGees?
Benedict ~ Tricia Walker
Discovery quotes by Tricia Walker
I didn't just wake up one morning and think, "I'm a boy!" It sort of crept up on me and tapped me on the shoulder a few times before I started to pay attention I began to think that the word "girl" didn't quite fit me. It was like a shoe that was too small -- it pinched me. ~ Cat Clarke
Discovery quotes by Cat Clarke
The trouble with science geeks, as you call them, is that hey put discovery before anything else. It was a science geek who discovered the atom bomb. He didn't intend to cause mass murder, but he did nonetheless. ~ Gemma Malley
Discovery quotes by Gemma Malley
He who recites dramatic works makes discoveries about his own character. ~ Friedrich Nietzsche
Discovery quotes by Friedrich Nietzsche
I think every one who has some vague belief in God, until he becomes a Christian, has the idea of an exam, or of a bargain in his mind. The first result of real Christianity is to blow that idea into bits. When they find it blown into bits, some people think this means that Christianity is a failure and give up. They seem to imagine that God is very simple-minded! In fact, of course, He knows all about this. One of the very things Christianity was designed to do was to blow this idea to bits. God has been waiting for the moment at which you discover that there is no question of earning a pass mark in this exam, or putting Him in your debt.

Then comes another discovery. Every faculty you have, your power of thinking or of moving your limbs from moment to moment, is given you by God. If you devoted every moment of your whole life exclusively to His service you could not give Him anything that was not in a sense His own already. So that when we talk of a man doing anything for God or giving anything to God, I will tell you what it is really like.

It is like a small child going to its father and saying, "Daddy, give me sixpence to buy you a birthday present." Of course, the father does, and he is pleased with the child's present. It is all very nice and proper, but only an idiot would think that the father is sixpence to the good on the transaction. When a man has made these two discoveries God can really get to work. It is after this that real life begins. ~ C.S. Lewis
Discovery quotes by C.S. Lewis
True leadership is an attitude that naturally inspires and motivates others, and it comes from an internalized discovery about yourself. ~ Myles Munroe
Discovery quotes by Myles Munroe
The best answers often come only after we have discovered the correct questions. ~ T Jay Taylor
Discovery quotes by T Jay Taylor
Such is the conscious master, and man can only thus become by discovering within himself the laws of thought; which discovery is totally a matter of application, self analysis, and experience. ~ James Allen
Discovery quotes by James Allen
In my first publication I might have claimed that I had come to the conclusion, as a result of serious study of the literature and deep thought, that valuable antibacterial substances were made by moulds and that I set out to investigate the problem. That would have been untrue and I preferred to tell the truth that penicillin started as a chance observation. My only merit is that I did not neglect the observation and that I pursued the subject as a bacteriologist. My publication in 1929 was the starting-point of the work of others who developed penicillin especially in the chemical field. ~ Alexander Fleming
Discovery quotes by Alexander Fleming
Psychic awareness turns a veiled nudge into a disclosure and an indiscriminate urge into a valuable discovery. ~ Michelle A. Beltran
Discovery quotes by Michelle A. Beltran
Gastronomers of the year 1825, who find sateity in the lap of abundance, and dream of some newly-made dishes, you will not enjoy the discoveries which science has in store for the year 1900, such as foods drawn from the mineral kingdom, liqueurs produced by the pressure of a hundred atmospheres; you will never see the importations which travelers yet unborn will bring to you from that half of the globe which has still to be discovered or explored. How I pity you! ~ Jean Anthelme Brillat-Savarin
Discovery quotes by Jean Anthelme Brillat-Savarin
Beli, who'd been waiting for something exactly like her body her whole life, was sent over the moon by what she now knew. By the undeniable concreteness of her desirability which was, in its own way, Power. Like the accidental discovery of the One Ring. Like stumbling into the wizard Shazam's cave or finding the crashed ship of the Green Lantern! Hypatia Belicia Cabral finally had power and a true sense of self. Started pinching her shoulders back, wearing the tightest clothes she had. Dios mío, La Inca said every time the girl headed out. Why would God give you that burden in this country of all places! ~ Junot Diaz
Discovery quotes by Junot Diaz
Physics is like sex: sure, it may give some practical results, but that's not why we do it. ~ Richard Feynman
Discovery quotes by Richard Feynman
The closer you come to your authentic self, the simpler everything becomes. Listen to your intuition. It will tell you who you are. ~ Vironika Tugaleva
Discovery quotes by Vironika Tugaleva
It is ironic that in the same year we celebrate the 50th anniversary of the discovery of DNA, some would have us ban certain forms of DNA medical research. Restricting medical research has very real human consequences, measured in loss of life and tremendous suffering for patients and their families. ~ Michael J. Fox
Discovery quotes by Michael J. Fox
The discovery of the chrono-synclastic infundibula said to mankind in effect: "What makes you think you're going anywhere? ~ Kurt Vonnegut Jr.
Discovery quotes by Kurt Vonnegut Jr.
Anger, resentment, jealousy, desire for revenge, lust, greed, antagonisms, and rivalries are the obvious signs that I have left home. And that happens quite easily. When I pay careful attention to what goes on in my mind from moment to moment, I come to the disconcerting discovery that there are very few moments during the day when I am really free from these dark emotions, passions and feelings.

Constantly falling back into an old trap, before I am even fully aware of it, I find myself wondering why someone hurt me, rejected me, or didn't pay attention to me. Without realizing it, I find myself brooding about someone else's success, my own loneliness, and the way the world abuses me. Despite my conscious intentions, I often catch myself daydreaming about becoming rich, powerful, and very famous. All of these mental games reveal to me the fragility of my faith that I am the Beloved One on whom God's favor rests. I am so afraid of being disliked, blamed, put aside, passed over, ignored, persecuted, and killed, that I am constantly developing strategies to defend myself and thereby assure myself of the love I think I need and deserve. And in so doing I move far away from my father's home and choose to dwell in a "distant country. ~ Henri J.M. Nouwen
Discovery quotes by Henri J.M. Nouwen
He went to India to "find himself" last year, but evidently he wasn't there, and he came back empty-handed. ~ Craig McLay
Discovery quotes by Craig McLay
During our glorious year of 1974–5, while I was dithering over gravitational waves, and Stephen was leading our merged group in black hole research, Stephen himself had an insight even more radical than his discovery of Hawking radiation. He gave a compelling, almost airtight proof that, when a black hole forms and then subsequently evaporates away completely by emitting radiation, the information that went into the black hole cannot come back out. Information is inevitably lost.
This is radical because the laws of quantum physics insist unequivocally that information can never get totally lost. So, if Stephen was right, black holes violate a most fundamental quantum mechanical law.
How could this be? The black hole's evaporation is governed by the combined laws of quantum mechanics and general relativity - the ill-understood laws of quantum gravity; and so, Stephen reasoned, the fiery marriage of relativity and quantum physics must lead to information destruction.
The great majority of theoretical physicists find this conclusion abhorrent. They are highly sceptical. And so, for forty-four years they have struggled with this so-called information-loss paradox. It is a struggle well worth the effort and anguish that have gone into it, since this paradox is a powerful key for understanding the quantum gravity laws. Stephen himself, in 2003, found a way that information might escape during the hole's evaporation, but that did not quell theorists' struggles. Stephe ~ Stephen Hawking
Discovery quotes by Stephen Hawking
For me, nature is something you watch on the Discovery Channel, or on the evening news
as you learn how much more of it's been savaged to make way for the Blackberry realm that is my home ~ Tahir Shah
Discovery quotes by Tahir Shah
Oh, don't pull your hand away from me, I've promised myself that maybe by the end of this impossible narrative I shall understand, oh maybe it will be on Hell's road that I shall be able to find what we need - but don't pull your hand away, even though I now know that the finding has to come on the road of what we are, if I can succeed in not sinking completely into what we are. ~ Clarice Lispector
Discovery quotes by Clarice Lispector
When I'm at the bottom looking up, the main question may not be 'how do I get out of this hole?' In reality, the main question might be 'how do I get rid of the shovel that I used to dig it? ~ Craig D. Lounsbrough
Discovery quotes by Craig D. Lounsbrough
The greatest joy is the joy of discovery. Followed closely by the joy of a discovery that doesn't kill you. - Enid Healy ~ Seanan McGuire
Discovery quotes by Seanan McGuire
Discovery is new beginning. It is the origin of new rules that supplement, or even supplant, the old. Genius is creative. It is genius precisely because it disregards established routines, because it originates the novelties that will be the routines of the future. Were there rules for discovery, then discoveries would be mere conclusions. ~ Bernard Lonergan
Discovery quotes by Bernard Lonergan
The discovery of Viagra was a similar story. Initially, the drug had been tested as a treatment for chest pain (angina), and for that purpose it was a failure. Then patients started reporting a curious side effect. (Imagine those awkward conversations: "Doc, my chest still hurts ... but, um, I've been noticing an effect somewhere else ... ") ~ Chip Heath
Discovery quotes by Chip Heath
As a graduate student I studied mathematics fairly broadly, and I was fortunate enough, besides developing the idea which led to 'Non-Cooperative Games,' also to make a nice discovery relating to manifolds and real algebraic varieties. ~ John Forbes Nash, Jr.
Discovery quotes by John Forbes Nash, Jr.
Color is not a trivial subject but one that has compelled, for hundreds of years, a passionate curiosity in the greatest artists, philosophers, and natural scientists. The young Spinoza wrote his first treatise on the rainbow; the young Newton's most joyous discovery was the composition of white light; Goethe's great color work, like Newton's, started with a prism; Schopenhauer, Young, Helmholtz, and Maxwell, in the last century, were all tantalized by the problem of color; and Wittgenstein's last work was his Remarks on Colour. And yet most of us, most of the time, overlook its great mystery. ~ Oliver Sacks
Discovery quotes by Oliver Sacks
The first rule of discovery is to have brains and good luck. The second rule of discovery is to sit tight and wait till you get a bright idea. ~ George Polya
Discovery quotes by George Polya
It is understandable why a person might shirk a brutal self-assessment until the unforgiving talons of a reckless life rips their thin skin covertures into shreds leaving a person ensnared in their destructive thoughts and lacerated with bolts of self-incrimination. ~ Kilroy J. Oldster
Discovery quotes by Kilroy J. Oldster
If we do survive death, then the next world is veiled from us for a purpose. Regardless of our endless conjecture, each of us will make this discovery individually, whether we wish to or not. However, we do know the conditions of the world around us and its inhabitants; we know these in detail. We can only conclude, then, that we are meant to focus on this world in which we live, and not groundless speculation about the next. History shows that an obsession with the afterlife smothers our concern for the living. ~ J.L. Bryan
Discovery quotes by J.L. Bryan
A woman stood in front of her with the peculiar poise that comes before the discovery of age and after the loss of innocence. ~ Donald Kingsbury
Discovery quotes by Donald Kingsbury
Austen suggests that a gentleman is made, not born - and made only through a process of painful self-reflection and discovery. ~ Emily Auerbach
Discovery quotes by Emily Auerbach
Ninety per cent of the world's woe comes from people not knowing themselves, their abilities, their frailties, and even their real virtues. Most of us go almost all the way through life as complete strangers to ourselves
so how can we know anyone else? ~ Sydney J. Harris
Discovery quotes by Sydney J. Harris
The discovery of deuterium and the marked differences in the physical and chemical properties of hydrogen and deuterium, together with an efficient method for the separation of these isotopes, have opened an interesting field of research in several of the major branches of science. ~ Harold Urey
Discovery quotes by Harold Urey
In an essay, you have the outcome in your pocket before you set out on your journey, and very rarely do you make an intellectual or psychological discovery. But when you write fiction, you don't know where you are going - sometimes down to the last paragraph - and that is the pleasure of it. ~ Cynthia Ozick
Discovery quotes by Cynthia Ozick
I think that the discovery of antimatter was perhaps the biggest jump of all the big jumps in physics in our century. ~ Werner Heisenberg
Discovery quotes by Werner Heisenberg
Nothing you can do can prevent your death. Nothing you can do can prevent your rebirth. To step beyond life and death is self-discovery. ~ Frederick Lenz
Discovery quotes by Frederick Lenz
We cannot predict the new forces, powers, and discoveries that will be disclosed to us when we reach the other planets and set up new laboratories in space. They are as much beyond our vision today as fire or electricity would be beyond the imagination of a fish. ~ Arthur C. Clarke
Discovery quotes by Arthur C. Clarke
For a man solemnly to undertake the interpretation of any portion of Scripture without invocation of God, to be taught and instructed by His Spirit, is a high provocation of him; nor shall I expect the discovery of truth from any one who thus proudly engages in a work so much beyond his ability. ~ John Owen
Discovery quotes by John Owen
Don't chase after your thoughts as a shadow follows its object. Don't run after your thoughts. Find joy and peace in this very moment . ~ Thich Nhat Hanh
Discovery quotes by Thich Nhat Hanh
The real discovery is the one which enables me to stop doing philosophy when I want to. The one that gives philosophy peace, so that it is no longer tormented by questions which bring itself into question. ~ Ludwig Wittgenstein
Discovery quotes by Ludwig Wittgenstein
But she's going to see the world and she's going to feel the wind in her hair. And she's going to solve all her crosswords in ink. ~ Fredrik Backman
Discovery quotes by Fredrik Backman
I know of nothing more inspiring than that of making discoveries for ones self. ~ George Washington Carver
Discovery quotes by George Washington Carver
The greatest scientific discovery was the discovery of ignorance. Once humans realised how little they knew about the world, they suddenly had a very good reason to seek new knowledge, which opened up the scientific road to progress. ~ Yuval Noah Harari
Discovery quotes by Yuval Noah Harari
Then if it is denied that the unity at that level is the interconnection of the plurality or dissimilarity of religions as of parts constituting a whole, rather that every one of the religions at the level of ordinary existence is not part of a whole, but is a whole in itself-then the 'unity' that is meant is 'oneness' or 'sameness' not really of religions, but of the God of religions at the level of transcendence (i.e. esoteric), implying thereby that at the level of ordinary existence (i.e. exoteric), and despite the plurality and diversity of religions, each religion is adequate and valid in its own limited way, each authentic and conveying limited though equal truth. The notion of a plurality of truth of equal validity in the plurality and diversity of religion is perhaps aligned to the statements and general conclusions of modern philosophy and science arising from the discovery of a pluraity and diversity of laws governing the universe having equal validity each in its own cosmological system. The trend to align modern scientific discovery concerning the systems of the universe with corresponding statements applied to human society, cultural traditions, and values is one of the characteristic features of modernity.

The position of those who advocate the theory of the transcendent unity of religions is based upon the assumption that all religions, or the major religions of mankind, are revealed religions. They assume that the universality and transcendence of e ~ Syed Muhammad Naquib Al-Attas
Discovery quotes by Syed Muhammad Naquib Al-Attas
I think I have the best job in the world. Seventy-one percent of the planet is covered by water, we've explored less than five percent of the ocean, and there are so many fabulous discoveries that have yet to be made. ~ Edith Widder
Discovery quotes by Edith Widder
The question then is how to get lost. Never to get lost is not to live, not to know how to get lost brings you to destruction and somewhere in the terra incognita in between lies a life of discovery. Thoreau: 'Not till we are lost, in other words, not till we have lost the world, do we begin to find ourselves, and realize where we are and the infinite extent of our relations…' Lose the whole world, he asserts, get lost in it, and find your soul. ~ Rebecca Solnit
Discovery quotes by Rebecca Solnit
I calculated how easy it would be to pull a chair next to the windowsill, climb up, and simply allow my body to fall four stories to the street. Then an inner voice broke in, There's got to be something more. Go find it. ~ Debra Moffitt
Discovery quotes by Debra Moffitt
Thus, it does not seem clear (to us) that there is truly a unified research program here, under the name of materialism. The apparent consensus could be something of a mirage, with the only thing holding it together being a denial of the Soul Hypothesis. If so, it begins to look more like a shared assumption than a shared discovery. And of course there can be consensuses based on fashion and the spirit of the age, as well as consensuses based on observation and reason. Even scientists must always be on guard to make sure they are part of the latter rather than the former. The honorable mantle of the scientist conveys no inherent infallibility in this regard. ~ Mark C. Baker
Discovery quotes by Mark C. Baker
If we make a couple of discoveries here and there we need not believe things will go on like this for ever. Just as we hit water when we dig in the earth, so we discover the incomprehensible sooner or later. ~ Georg C. Lichtenberg
Discovery quotes by Georg C. Lichtenberg
When we reveal ourselves to our partner and find that this brings healing rather than harm, we make an important discovery - that intimate relationship can provide a sanctuary from the world of facades, a sacred space where we can be ourselves, as we are ... This kind of unmasking - speaking our truth, sharing our inner struggles, and revealing our raw edges - is sacred activity, which allows two souls to meet and touch more deeply. ~ John Welwood
Discovery quotes by John Welwood
For myself, it took only the early discovery of a golden ammonite, glittering on the beach between Lyme and Charmouth, for me to succumb to the seductive thrill of finding unexpected treasure. ~ Tracy Chevalier
Discovery quotes by Tracy Chevalier
Working with the children on 'Matilda' has been a joy. They don't do this professionally - their sense of discovery is instinctive, and the challenge for us adults is to keep that going in ourselves when we're doing it for the fiftieth or the hundredth time. To my delight and amazement, it hasn't gone stale - we discover it freshly every time. ~ Bertie Carvel
Discovery quotes by Bertie Carvel
What would mathematics have amounted to without the imagination of its devotees-its giants and their followers? There never was a discovery made without the urge of imagination-of imagination which broke the roadway through the forest in order that cold logic might follow. ~ David Eugene Smith
Discovery quotes by David Eugene Smith
It is unwise to equate scientific activity with what we call reason, poetic activity with what we call imagination. Without the imaginative leap from facts to generalisation, no theoretic discovery in science is made. The poet, on the other hand, must not imagine but reason
that is to say, he must exercise a great deal of consciously directed thought in the selection and rejection of his data: there is a technical logic, a poetic reasoning in his choice of the words, rhythms and images by which a poem's coherence is achieved. ~ Cecil Day-Lewis
Discovery quotes by Cecil Day-Lewis
With time, many of the facts I learned were forgotten but I never lost the excitement of discovery. ~ Paul Berg
Discovery quotes by Paul Berg
The greatest discovery of the 19th century was not in the realm of the physical sciences, but the power of the subconscious mind touched by faith. Any individual can tap into an eternal reservoir of power that will enable them to overcome any problem that may arise. All weaknesses can be overcome, bodily healing, financial independence, spiritual awakening, and prosperity beyond your wildest dreams. This is the superstructure of happiness. ~ William James
Discovery quotes by William James
Sometimes I wonder if I'm as famous for my wheelchair and disabilities as I am for my discoveries. ~ Stephen Hawking
Discovery quotes by Stephen Hawking
The greatest self are self-improvement, self-development and self-discovery. ~ Lailah Gifty Akita
Discovery quotes by Lailah Gifty Akita
Writing anything as an expert is really poisonous to the writing process, because you lose the quality of discovery. ~ Siddhartha Mukherjee
Discovery quotes by Siddhartha Mukherjee
We all hunt something, ~ Deborah Harkness
Discovery quotes by Deborah Harkness
Failure is, in a sense, the highway to success ... ~ John Keats
Discovery quotes by John Keats
You made a discovery yesterday; remember? 'No man is an Island.' It's true in more ways than one. Don't go on hating yourself because there are some things you can't do and can't face on your own. None of us can. ~ Mary Stewart
Discovery quotes by Mary Stewart
It feels great to discover a planet, just like any discovery in science, except that it has more of the feel of exploration - you can go back and look at it. However, I can never visit. ~ Dimitar Sasselov
Discovery quotes by Dimitar Sasselov
The world is our school for spiritual discovery. ~ Paul Brunton
Discovery quotes by Paul Brunton
A classic is a book which with each rereading offers as much of a sense of discovery as the first reading. ~ Italo Calvino
Discovery quotes by Italo Calvino
Always do your best to be yourself. Learn to listen to your inner-voice. This is your true authenticity; this is who you really are. Self-discovery of your inner-self is the path to your destiny ... ~ James A. Murphy
Discovery quotes by James A. Murphy
His mission is not to wait until the world ends, but to find a way to the other side before it does. To prop open the door before it can be locked. To tie a suture before the fatal wound is made. To let in the moonlight before the sun is allowed to rise. ~ Thomas Lloyd Qualls
Discovery quotes by Thomas Lloyd Qualls
He would ask her, of course, and they would honeymoon at the Canary Inn, but that particular weekend wouldn't be about forever, not just yet. It would be about the discovery Bessie made, about love, how it boomerangs toward you on quiet feet and tugs softly, never raging or insisting on anything other than recognition, and an unencumbered path of return. ~ Vera Jane Cook
Discovery quotes by Vera Jane Cook
I signed contracts when I didn't know what that meant. I thought I'd get residuals off of the shows I've been on: History Channel, Discovery, Dateline, Johnny Carson, etc. It's the only regret I have in life. If I got residuals, I wouldn't be shucking oysters now, though I do love my job. ~ Steve Trotter
Discovery quotes by Steve Trotter
As a spiritual person, nature for me has always been a healing place. Going back all the way to my childhood on the farm, the fields and forests were places of adventure and self-discovery. Animals were companions and friends, and the world moved at a slower, more rational pace than the bustling cities where I'd resided my adult life. ~ David Mixner
Discovery quotes by David Mixner
For almost a century, the Universe has been known to be expanding as a consequence of the Big Bang about 14 billion years ago. However, the discovery that this expansion is accelerating is astounding. If the expansion will continue to speed up, the Universe will end in ice. ~ Saul Perlmutter
Discovery quotes by Saul Perlmutter
We want to sell ourselves the idea of travel as shown in airline commercials, the one in which each journey is filled with bright and vibrant stimuli and an almost mandatory sense of discovery: Travel is supposed to mean new foods, new sounds, and new friends. But much of the time, travel and the places we find ourselves as we travel are remarkably boring. ~ Evan Rail
Discovery quotes by Evan Rail
Writing is a wonderful voyage of discovery. So sit down and write, and see where your mind can take you ... ~ Sarah Jane Avory
Discovery quotes by Sarah Jane Avory
When I begin a book, I inevitably discover many things along the way, about the characters, their past histories and the political intrigues that surround them. This discovery process is vital, and I would not prejudice it by deciding too much in advance. ~ David Brin
Discovery quotes by David Brin
It is possible that a scientific discovery will be made that humans will later regret because it has awful consequences. The problem is, we probably would not know in advance and, once the discovery is made, it cannot be undiscovered. ~ Paul Davies
Discovery quotes by Paul Davies
We are not here to build our empire only but also to help people discover the kingdom of God ~ Sunday Adelaja
Discovery quotes by Sunday Adelaja
The most glorious exploits do not always furnish us with the clearest discoveries of virtue or vice in men. ~ Plutarch
Discovery quotes by Plutarch
The act of sending a letter is an act of generosity, even if, in retrospect, it might seem reckless. Why regret one's generosity? Why regret one's impulsiveness, one's misjudgment of others? The inevitable discovery that someone is selling letters you'd written in trust is simply to discover an obvious human truth: there are those who don't cherish us as we'd cherished them, and had wished to be cherished by them. ~ Joyce Carol Oates
Discovery quotes by Joyce Carol Oates
Ryan Hansen is my favorite person on the planet. He is my discovery. I'm so proud of him. ~ Rob Thomas
Discovery quotes by Rob Thomas
And in the spring, it's touching to notice them making their first discovery of love! As if nobody had ever known it before! ~ Tennessee Williams
Discovery quotes by Tennessee Williams
We have come to a generation which seeks advance without ideals - discovery without stars. ~ W.E.B. Du Bois
Discovery quotes by W.E.B. Du Bois
Life is like weather we have to challenge and discovery many different seasons. ~ Jan Jansen
Discovery quotes by Jan Jansen
This "Hawking temperature" of a black hole and its "Hawking radiation" (as they came to be called) were truly radical - perhaps the most radical theoretical physics discovery in the second half of the twentieth century. They opened our eyes to profound connections between general relativity (black holes), thermodynamics (the physics of heat) and quantum physics (the creation of particles where before there were none). For example, they led Stephen to prove that a black hole has entropy, which means that somewhere inside or around the black hole there is enormous randomness. He deduced that the amount of entropy (the logarithm of the hole's amount of randomness) is proportional to the hole's surface area. His formula for the entropy is engraved on Stephen's memorial stone at Gonville and Caius College in Cambridge, where he worked.
For the past forty-five years, Stephen and hundreds of other physicists have struggled to understand the precise nature of a black hole's randomness. It is a question that keeps on generating new insights about the marriage of quantum theory with general relativity - that is, about the ill-understood laws of quantum gravity. ~ Stephen Hawking
Discovery quotes by Stephen Hawking
The journey toward self-discovery is life's greatest adventure. ~ Arianna Huffington
Discovery quotes by Arianna Huffington
A millenarian fire burned in Oppenheimer's spirit, fueled by his pride as a world-historical individual, by his fear that the natural force he loosed upon the world would escape all human control, and by a pure-hearted longing to ensure that his discovery of the devastation latent in the elemental substance of the world would serve concord rather than the ultimate discord, perpetual peace rather than permanent self-destruction. ~ Algis Valiunas
Discovery quotes by Algis Valiunas
Life cannot be mastered by a method but needs to be met with an attitude of openness and discovery ~ Charlotte Selver
Discovery quotes by Charlotte Selver
I still remember what my father said "There are on the stadium 22 idiots, which are running after ball.". From where did he knew that??
He knew it from guarding the stadium, so my question is why we don't watch how a dog catch a ball?
But we watch 22 idiots running after the ball??
What are the differences??
That the dog can't kick the ball, but the humanity can?? - Wow, wow that's a great discovery for a dumb person! ~ Deyth Banger
Discovery quotes by Deyth Banger
Be not afraid of being called un-fashionable. ~ Adolf Loos
Discovery quotes by Adolf Loos
The eighteenth century discovery that, in an institutional framework that facilitates voluntary exchanges among individuals, this process generates results that might be evaluated positively, produced 'economics,' as an independent academic discipline or science. ~ James M. Buchanan
Discovery quotes by James M. Buchanan
Love is but the discovery of ourselves in others, and the delight in the recognition. ~ Alexander Smith
Discovery quotes by Alexander Smith
Pain reaches the heart with electrical speed, but truth moves to the heart as slowly as a glacier. ~ Barbara Kingsolver
Discovery quotes by Barbara Kingsolver
SAY IT IS WELL EVEN WHEN U ARE INSIDE D WELL.WE CAN STILL SEE GOD THRU D BLACKNESS OF DARKNESS.TRUST GOD. ~ Ikechukwu Joseph
Discovery quotes by Ikechukwu Joseph
Discovery is exciting, no matter how big or small or close or distant ... ~ Mike Brown
Discovery quotes by Mike Brown
Einstein has a feeling for the central order of things. He can detect it in the simplicity of natural laws. We may take it that he felt this simplicity very strongly and directly during his discovery of the theory of relativity. Admittedly, this is a far cry from the contents of religion. I don't believe Einstein is tied to any religious tradition, and I rather think the idea of a personal God is entirely foreign to him. ~ Wolfgang Pauli
Discovery quotes by Wolfgang Pauli
But still, it was not the desire to 'write' that was his real motive. To get out of the money-world - that was what he wanted. Vaguely he looked forward to some kind of moneyless, anchorite existence. He had a feeling that if you genuinely despise money you can keep going somehow, like the birds of the air. He forgot that the birds of the air don't pay room-rent. The poet starving in a garret - but starving, somehow, not uncomfortably - that was his vision of himself.

The next seven months were devastating. They scared him and almost broke his spirit. He learned what it means to live for weeks on end on bread and margarine, to try to 'write' when you are half starved, to pawn your clothes, to sneak trembling up the stairs when you owe three weeks' rent and your landlady is listening for you. Moreover, in those seven months he wrote practically nothing. The first effect of poverty is that it kills thought. He grasped, as though it were a new discovery, that you do not escape from money merely by being moneyless. On the contrary, you are the hopeless slave of money until you have enough of it to live on - a 'competence', as the beastly middle-class phrase goes. ~ George Orwell
Discovery quotes by George Orwell
I always feel anxious if anyone's close to uncovering my secrets. ~ Carla H. Krueger
Discovery quotes by Carla H. Krueger
How do you generalize? War is hell, but that's not the half of it, because war is also mystery and terror and adventure and courage and discovery and holiness and pity and despair and longing and love. War is nasty; war is fun. War is thrilling; war is drudgery. War makes you a man; war makes you dead. The truths are contradictory. ~ Tim O'Brien
Discovery quotes by Tim O'Brien
The lapse of ages changes all things - time - language - the earth - the bounds of the sea - the stars of the sky, and everything 'about, around, and underneath' man, except man himself, who has always been and always will be, an unlucky rascal. The infinite variety of lives conduct but to death, and the infinity of wishes lead but to disappointment. All the discoveries which have yet been made have multiplied little but existence. ~ George Gordon Byron
Discovery quotes by George Gordon Byron
