There's far more truth in the Book of Genesis than in the quantum theory. ~ Malcolm Muggeridge
Quantum Theory quotes by Malcolm Muggeridge
If you start any large theory, such as quantum mechanics, plate tectonics, evolution, it takes about 40 years for mainstream science to come around. Gaia has been going for only 30 years or so. ~ James Lovelock
Quantum Theory quotes by James Lovelock
You believe in the God who plays dice, and I in complete law and order in a world that objectively exists, and which I, in a wildly speculative way, am trying to capture ... Even the great initial success of the quantum theory does not make me believe in the fundamental dice-game, although I am well aware that our younger colleagues interpret this as a consequence of senility. No doubt the day will come when we will see whose instinctive attitude was the correct one. ~ Albert Einstein
Quantum Theory quotes by Albert Einstein
Twisting space-time into knots requires energy on a scale that will not be available within the next several centuries or even millenia-if ever. Even if all the nations of the world were to band together to build a machine that could probe hyperspace, they would ultimately fail. And, as Guth points out, the temperatures necessary to create a baby universe in the laboratory is 1,000 trillion trillion degrees, far in excess of anything available to us. In fact, that temperature is much greater than anything found in the interior of a star. So, although it is possible that Einstein's laws and the laws of quantum theory might allow for time travel, this is not within the capabilities of earthlings like us, who can barely escape the feeble gravitational field of our own planet. While we can marvel at the implications of wormhole research, realizing its potential is strictly reserved for advanced extraterrestrial civilizations. ~ Michio Kaku
Quantum Theory quotes by Michio Kaku
This "Hawking temperature" of a black hole and its "Hawking radiation" (as they came to be called) were truly radical - perhaps the most radical theoretical physics discovery in the second half of the twentieth century. They opened our eyes to profound connections between general relativity (black holes), thermodynamics (the physics of heat) and quantum physics (the creation of particles where before there were none). For example, they led Stephen to prove that a black hole has entropy, which means that somewhere inside or around the black hole there is enormous randomness. He deduced that the amount of entropy (the logarithm of the hole's amount of randomness) is proportional to the hole's surface area. His formula for the entropy is engraved on Stephen's memorial stone at Gonville and Caius College in Cambridge, where he worked.
For the past forty-five years, Stephen and hundreds of other physicists have struggled to understand the precise nature of a black hole's randomness. It is a question that keeps on generating new insights about the marriage of quantum theory with general relativity - that is, about the ill-understood laws of quantum gravity. ~ Stephen Hawking
Quantum Theory quotes by Stephen Hawking
Hello?' M-Bot said. 'Spensa? Are you dead?'
'Maybe.'
'Oooh. Like the cat!'
'...What?'
'I'm not sure, honestly,' M-Bot said. 'But logically, if you're speaking to me then possibility has collapsed in our favor. Hurray! ~ Brandon Sanderson
Quantum Theory quotes by Brandon Sanderson
Thus it can be argued that quantum theory provides an opening for an idea of nature and of our role within it that is in general accord with certain religious concepts, but that, by contrast, is quite incompatible with the precepts of mechanistic deterministic classical physics. Thus the replacement of classical mechanics by quantum mechanics opens the door to religious possibilities that formerly were rationally excluded. ~ Paul Davies
Quantum Theory quotes by Paul Davies
The words are strung together, with their own special grammar-the laws of quantum theory-to form sentences, which are molecules. Soon we have books, entire libraries, made out of molecular "sentences." The universe is like a library in which the words are atoms. Just look at what has been written with these hundred words! Our own bodies are books in that library, specified by the organization of molecules-but the universe and literature are organizations of identical, interchangeable objects; they are information systems. ~ Heinz Pagels
Quantum Theory quotes by Heinz Pagels
All perception is the result of electrical impulses in the brain - the world of the individual is tantamount to a highly advanced computer running and analyzing programs in its working memory. ~ Kevin Michel
Quantum Theory quotes by Kevin Michel
All integral laws of spectral lines and of atomic theory spring originally from the quantum theory. It is the mysterious organon on which Nature plays her music of the spectra, and according to the rhythm of which she regulates the structure of the atoms and nuclei. ~ Arnold Sommerfeld
Quantum Theory quotes by Arnold Sommerfeld
There certainly is a tension between the relativity of simultaneity and non-locality in quantum theory, but it's not strong enough to add up to a falsification of either side by itself. ~ Lee Smolin
Quantum Theory quotes by Lee Smolin
With this, in a powerful sense, our Question has been answered. The world, insofar as we speak of the world of Chemistry, biology, astrophysics, engineering, and everyday life, does embody beautiful ideas. The Core, which governs those domains, is profoundly rooted in concepts of symmetry and geometry, as we have seen. And it works its will, in quantum theory, through music-like rules. Symmetry really does determine structure. A pure and perfect Music of the Spheres really does animate the soul of reality. Plato and Pythagoras: We salute you! ~ Frank Wilczek
Quantum Theory quotes by Frank Wilczek
One can still say that quantum mechanics is the key to understanding magnetism. When one enters the first room with this key there are unexpected rooms beyond, but it is always the master key that unlocks each door. ~ John H. Van Vleck
Quantum Theory quotes by John H. Van Vleck
God runs electromagnetics by wave theory on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, and the Devil runs them by quantum theory on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. ~ William Lawrence Bragg
Quantum Theory quotes by William Lawrence Bragg
Quantum theory thus reveals a basic oneness of the universe. It shows that we cannot decompose the world into independently existing smallest units. As we penetrate into matter, nature does not show us any isolated "building blocks," but rather appears as a complicated web of relations between the various parts of the whole. These relations always include the observer in an essential way. The human observer constitute the final link in the chain of observational processes, and the properties of any atomic object can be understood only in terms of the object's interaction with the observer. ~ Fritjof Capra
Quantum Theory quotes by Fritjof Capra
It is more important to have beauty in one's equations than to have them fit experiment. ~ Paul Dirac
Quantum Theory quotes by Paul Dirac
The dividing line between the wave or particle nature of matter and radiation is the moment "Now." As this moment steadily advances through time it coagulates a wavy future into a particle past. ~ William Lawrence Bragg
Quantum Theory quotes by William Lawrence Bragg
Bells theorem dealt a shattering blow to Einsteins position by showing that the conception of reality as consisting of separate parts, joined by local connections, is incompatible with quantum theory ... Bells theorem demonstrates that the universe is fundamentally interconnected, interdependent, and inseparable. ~ Fritjof Capra
Quantum Theory quotes by Fritjof Capra
For the ten-dimensional universe, however, there are apparemtly millions of ways in which to curl up. To calculate which state the ten-dimensional universe prefers, we need to solve the field theory of strings using the theory of phase transitions, the most difficult problem in quantum theory. ~ Michio Kaku
Quantum Theory quotes by Michio Kaku
We're going to need a definitive quantum theory of gravity, which is part of a grand unified theory - it's the main missing piece. ~ Kip Thorne
Quantum Theory quotes by Kip Thorne
The Theory of Relativity confers an absolute meaning on a magnitude which in classical theory has only a relative significance: the velocity of light. The velocity of light is to the Theory of Relativity as the elementary quantum of action is to the Quantum Theory: it is its absolute core. ~ Max Planck
Quantum Theory quotes by Max Planck
By far the most important consequence of the conceptual revolution brought about in physics by relativity and quantum theory lies not in such details as that meter sticks shorten when they move or that simultaneous position and momentum have no meaning, but in the insight that we had not been using our minds properly and that it is important to find out how to do so. ~ Percy Williams Bridgman
Quantum Theory quotes by Percy Williams Bridgman
Niels Bohr brainwashed a whole generation of theorists into thinking that the job (interpreting quantum theory) was done 50 years ago. ~ Murray Gell-Mann
Quantum Theory quotes by Murray Gell-Mann
Zero dwells at the juxtaposition of quantum mechanics and relativity; zero lives where the two theories meet, and zero causes the two theories to clash. A black hole is a zero in the equations of general relativity; the energy of the vacuum is a zero in the mathematics of quantum theory. The big bang, the most puzzling event in the history of the universe, is a zero in both theories. The universe came from nothing-and both theories break down when they try to explain the origin of the cosmos. ~ Charles Seife
Quantum Theory quotes by Charles Seife
In his first philosophical lecture on modern physics that Pauli gave in November 1934 to the Zurich Philosophical Society he said that only a formulation of quantum theory would be satisfactory which expresses the relation between the value of [the fine structure constant] and charge conservation in the same complementary was as that between the space-time description and energy-momentum conservation. ~ Charles P. Enz
Quantum Theory quotes by Charles P. Enz
The [quantum] theory reminds me a little of the system of delusions of an exceedingly intelligent paranoiac. ~ Albert Einstein
Quantum Theory quotes by Albert Einstein
It is often stated that of all the theories proposed in this century, the silliest is quantum theory. In fact, some say that the only thing that quantum theory has going for it is that it is unquestionably correct. ~ Michio Kaku
Quantum Theory quotes by Michio Kaku
A person who wasn't outraged on first hearing about quantum theory didn't understand what had been said. ~ Niels Bohr
Quantum Theory quotes by Niels Bohr
Einstein was arguing against quantum theory just as irrationally as his opponents had argued against relativity theory. Einstein remained adamant (he remained adamant to the end of his life where quantum theory was concerned). ~ Richard Rhodes
Quantum Theory quotes by Richard Rhodes
Copenhagen interpretation Niels Bohr's combination of instrumentalism, anthropocentrism and studied ambiguity, used to avoid understanding quantum theory as being about reality. ~ David Deutsch
Quantum Theory quotes by David Deutsch
The treatment of the indeterminacy principle as absolute and final can then be criticized as constituting an arbitrary restriction on scientific theories, since it does not follow from the quantum theory as such, but rather from the assumption of the unlimited validity of certain of its features, an assumption that can in no way ever be subjected to experimental proof. ~ David Bohm
Quantum Theory quotes by David Bohm
The universe has secrets just waiting to be unveiled. ~ Gerald W. Scanlon
Quantum Theory quotes by Gerald W. Scanlon
We walk in darkness with phantoms and spectres we know not of, and our little world plunges blindly through abysses toward a goal of which we have no conception. That thought itself is a blow at our beliefs and comprehension. We used to content ourselves by thinking we knew all about our world, at least; but now it is different, and we wonder if we really know anything, or if there can be safety and peace anywhere in the wide universe. ~ Donald Wandrei
Quantum Theory quotes by Donald Wandrei
If we are going t stick to this damned quantum-jumping, then I regret that I ever had anything to do with quantum theory. ~ Erwin Schrodinger
Quantum Theory quotes by Erwin Schrodinger
Nature knows nothing of imperfection; imperfection is a human perception of nature. Inasmuch as we are part of nature we are also perfect; it is our humanity that is imperfect. And, ironically, because of our capacity for imperfection and error we are free beings - a freedom that no stone or animal can enjoy. Without the possibility of error and real indeterminacy implied by the quantum theory, human liberty is meaningless. The God that plays dice has set us free. ~ Heinz R. Pagels
Quantum Theory quotes by Heinz R. Pagels
Quantum attention function is like a virtual mirror which brings time in timelessness, states in statelessness, forms in formlessness and locality in non-locality. ~ Amit Ray
Quantum Theory quotes by Amit Ray
It would take a civilization far more advanced than ours, unbelievably advanced, to begin to manipulate negative energy to create gateways to the past. But if you could obtain large quantities of negative energy - and that's a big "IF" - then you could create a time machine that apparently obeys Einstein's equation and perhaps the laws of quantum theory. ~ Michio Kaku
Quantum Theory quotes by Michio Kaku
Quantum physics teaches us that we can simultaneously exist in many places, under certain conditions. ~ Amit Ray
Quantum Theory quotes by Amit Ray
(A)ny working hypothesis was probably going to involve quantum theory at some point - the part of physics that made my brains trickle out of my ears. ~ Ben Aaronovitch
Quantum Theory quotes by Ben Aaronovitch
We can roll up two-dimensional graphene to make one-dimensional tubes, the so-called nanotubes. This can be done in many ways, giving nanotubes with different radii and pitches (see plate FF). Nanotubes that differ only slightly in geometry can have radically different physical properties. It is a triumph of quantum theory that these delicate properties can be predicted unambiguously, purely through calculation, and that they agree with experimental measurements. ~ Frank Wilczek
Quantum Theory quotes by Frank Wilczek
Quantum attention function is deeply grounded on the mathematics of theoretical physics and penetrates deeply the world of the very small and the world of the very big. ~ Amit Ray
Quantum Theory quotes by Amit Ray
And anyone who thinks they can talk about quantum theory without feeling dizzy hasn't yet understood the first thing about it. ~ Niels Bohr
Quantum Theory quotes by Niels Bohr
If [quantum theory] is correct, it signifies the end of physics as a science. ~ Albert Einstein
Quantum Theory quotes by Albert Einstein
Wolfgang Pauli, in the months before Heisenberg's paper on matrix mechanics pointed the way to a new quantum theory, wrote to a friend, "At the moment physics is again terribly confused. In any case, it is too difficult for me, and I wish I had been a movie comedian or something of the sort and had never heard of physics." That testimony is particularly impressive if contrasted with Pauli's words less than five months later: "Heisenberg's type of mechanics has again given me hope and joy in life. To be sure it does not supply the solution to the riddle, but I believe it is again possible to march forward. ~ Wolfgang Pauli
Quantum Theory quotes by Wolfgang Pauli
I'm really fascinated by the parallels between quantum theory and the teachings of some of these ancient texts. So many of the things that quantum physicists are talking about today, like nonlocality and the observer effect, are things the yogis have been saying for thousands of years. ~ Beryl Bender Birch

Quantum Theory quotes by Mortimer J. Adler
Chris hurried after him. 'It's so hard to believe we just travelled hundreds of light years.'
'Why?' asked the Doctor.
'I always understood that you cannot travel faster than light,' said Chris.
'Says who?'
'Says Einstein,' said Chris.
'What?' The Doctor stopped and put an arm around Chris's shoulder. 'Do you understand Einstein?'
Chris wasn't sure where this was going. 'Yes.'
'What?' gasped the Doctor. 'And quantum theory?'
'Yes,' said Chris. He basked in the Doctor's astonishment, on firmer ground at last.
'What?' gasped the Doctor. 'And Planck?'
'Yes,' said Chris.
'What?' gasped the Doctor. 'And Newton?'
'Yes!' said Chris.
'What?' gasped the Doctor. 'And Schoenberg?'
Chris paused. Was it a trick question? He recalled reading about the crisis of tonality. He thought he'd caught most of it, so he answered proudly, 'Yes. Of course.'
The Doctor whistled, apparently impressed. Then he said, 'You've got an awful lot to unlearn, Bristol. ~ Gareth Roberts
Quantum Theory quotes by Gareth Roberts
Peace begins when expectations end. ~ Sri Chinmoy
Quantum Theory quotes by Sri Chinmoy
There may be rhetoric about the socially constructed nature of Western science, but wherever it matters, there is no alternative. There are no specifically Hindu or Taoist designs for mobile phones, faxes or televisions. There are no satellites based on feminist alternatives to quantum theory. Even that great public sceptic about the value of science, Prince Charles, never flies a helicopter burning homeopathically diluted petrol, that is, water with only a memory of benzine molecules, maintained by a schedule derived from reading tea leaves, and navigated by a crystal ball. ~ Simon Blackburn
Quantum Theory quotes by Simon Blackburn
You know that, according to quantum theory, if two particles collide with enough energy you can, in principle, with an infinitesimal probability, produce two grand pianos. ~ Isidor Isaac Rabi
Quantum Theory quotes by Isidor Isaac Rabi
I suspect there could be life and intelligence out there in forms that we can't conceive. And there could, of course, be forms of intelligence beyond human capacity – beyond as much as we are beyond a chimpanzee ~ Martin J. Rees
Quantum Theory quotes by Martin J. Rees
A theory of reality must not only explain reality, but also knowledge about that reality because knowing reality is part of reality. ~ Ashish Dalela
Quantum Theory quotes by Ashish Dalela
The physicist is familiar with the fact that the classical laws of physics are modified by quantum theory, especially at low temperature. There are many instances of this. Life seems to be one of them, a particularly striking one. Life seems to be orderly and lawful behaviour of matter, not based exclusively on its tendency to go over from order to disorder, but based partly on existing order that is kept up. ~ Erwin Schrodinger
Quantum Theory quotes by Erwin Schrodinger
The uncertainty principle refers to the degree of indeterminateness in the possible present knowledge of the simultaneous values of various quantities with which the quantum theory deals; it does not restrict, for example, the exactness of a position measurement alone or a velocity measurement alone. ~ Werner Heisenberg
Quantum Theory quotes by Werner Heisenberg
I read a lot of science books - I love cosmology, quantum theory, particle physics. So my idea of a great read would probably put you directly into a coma. ~ Augusten Burroughs
Quantum Theory quotes by Augusten Burroughs
This was a golden age, in which we solved most of the major problems in black hole theory even before there was any observational evidence for black holes. In fact, we were so successful with the classical general theory of relativity that I was at a bit of a loose end in 1973 after the publication with George Ellis of our book The Large Scale Structure of Space–Time. My work with Penrose had shown that general relativity broke down at singularities, so the obvious next step would be to combine general relativity - the theory of the very large - with quantum theory - the theory of the very small. In particular, I wondered, can one have atoms in which the nucleus is a tiny primordial black hole, formed in the early universe? My investigations revealed a deep and previously unsuspected relationship between gravity and thermodynamics, the science of heat, and resolved a paradox that had been argued over for thirty years without much progress: how could the radiation left over from a shrinking black hole carry all of the information about what made the black hole? I discovered that information is not lost, but it is not returned in a useful way - like burning an encyclopedia but retaining the smoke and ashes.
To answer this, I studied how quantum fields or particles would scatter off a black hole. I was expecting that part of an incident wave would be absorbed, and the remainder scattered. But to my great surprise I found there seemed to be emission from the black hole itsel ~ Stephen Hawking
Quantum Theory quotes by Stephen Hawking
Quantum theory also tells us that the world is not simply objective; somehow it's something more subtle than that. In some sense it is veiled from us, but it has a structure that we can understand. ~ John Polkinghorne
Quantum Theory quotes by John Polkinghorne
The great revelation of the quantum theory was that features of discreteness were discovered in the Book of Nature, in a context in which anything other than continuity seemed to be absurd according to the views held until then. ~ Erwin Schrodinger
Quantum Theory quotes by Erwin Schrodinger
No. I do not think that. For the new principle that is involved is a genuinely physical one: it is, in my opinion, nothing else than the principle of quantum theory over again. ~ Erwin Schrodinger
Quantum Theory quotes by Erwin Schrodinger
Relativity theory applies to macroscopic bodies, such as stars. The event of coincidence, that is, in ultimate analysis of collision, is the primitive event in the theory of relativity and defines a point in space-time, or at least would define a point if the colliding panicles were infinitely small. Quantum theory has its roots in the microscopic world and, from its point of view, the event of coincidence, or of collision, even if it takes place between particles of no spatial extent, is not primitive and not at all sharply isolated in space-time. The two theories operate with different mathematical conceptsãthe four dimensional Riemann space and the infinite dimensional Hilbert space, respectively. So far, the two theories could not be united, that is, no mathematical formulation exists to which both of these theories are approximations. All physicists believe that a union of the two theories is inherently possible and that we shall find it. Nevertheless, it is possible also to imagine that no union of the two theories can be found. This example illustrates the two possibilities, of union and of conflict, mentioned before, both of which are conceivable. ~ Eugene Paul Wigner
Quantum Theory quotes by Eugene Paul Wigner
There are lots of things I don't understand - say, the latest debates over whether neutrinos have mass or the way that Fermat's last theorem was (apparently) proven recently. But from 50 years in this game, I have learned two things: (1) I can ask friends who work in these areas to explain it to me at a level that I can understand, and they can do so, without particular difficulty; (2) if I'm interested, I can proceed to learn more so that I will come to understand it. Now Derrida, Lacan, Lyotard, Kristeva, etc. -- even Foucault, whom I knew and liked, and who was somewhat different from the rest -- write things that I also don't understand, but (1) and (2) don't hold: no one who says they do understand can explain it to me and I haven't a clue as to how to proceed to overcome my failures. That leaves one of two possibilities: (a) some new advance in intellectual life has been made, perhaps some sudden genetic mutation, which has created a form of "theory" that is beyond quantum theory, topology, etc., in depth and profundity; or (b) ... I won't spell it out. ~ Noam Chomsky
Quantum Theory quotes by Noam Chomsky
We are at a time when postmodernism defies certainty, truth, and meaning; when spiritualism dabbles in quantum theory; and when randomness has become the order of the day. Isn't it ironic that at the same time, the world is on the edge of financial bankruptcy because we have conducted our financial affairs in a random fashion, as if there are no absolutes? ~ Ravi Zacharias
Quantum Theory quotes by Ravi Zacharias
In Einstein's theory of relativity the observer is a man who sets out in quest of truth armed with a measuring-rod. In quantum theory he sets out with a sieve. ~ Arthur Eddington
Quantum Theory quotes by Arthur Eddington
The quantum theory is based on the idea that there is a probability that all possible events, no matter how fantastic or silly, might occur. ~ Michio Kaku
Quantum Theory quotes by Michio Kaku
So, what is light? Is it a pure bombardment by particles (photons) or a pure wave? Really, it is neither. Light is a more complicated physical phenomenon than any single one of these concepts, which are based on classical physical models, can describe. To describe the propagation of light and to understand the phenomena like interference, we can and have to use the electromagnetic wave theory. When we want to discuss the interaction of light with elementary particles, however, we have to use the photon description. This picture, in which the particle and wave descriptions complement each other, has become known as the wave-particle duality. The modern quantum theory of light has unified the classical notions of waves and particles in the concept of probabilities. The electromagnetic field is represented by a wave function, which gives the probabilities of finding the field in certain modes. The photon is the energy associated with these modes. ~ Mario Livio
Quantum Theory quotes by Mario Livio
It would probably be wiser to nail up over the door of the new quantum theory a notice, 'Structural alterations in progress - No admittance except on business', and particularly to warn the doorkeeper to keep out prying philosophers. ~ Arthur Stanley Eddington
Quantum Theory quotes by Arthur Stanley Eddington
There's a branch of math called the foundations of math. It's kind of like quantum mechanics. It's about how this very complex theory of math can be built up from very basic parts. ~ Tristan Perich
Quantum Theory quotes by Tristan Perich
Name the colors, blind the eye" is an old Zen saying, illustrating that the intellect's habitual ways of branding and labeling creates a terrible experiential loss by displacing the vibrant, living reality with a steady stream of labels. It is the same way with space, which is solely the conceptual mind's way of clearing its throat, of pausing between identified symbols. At any rate, the subjective truth of this is now supported by actual experiments (as we saw in the quantum theory chapters) that strongly suggest distance (space) has no reality whatsoever for entangled particles, no matter how great their apparent separation. ~ Robert Lanza
Quantum Theory quotes by Robert Lanza
It is a remarkable fact that the second law of thermodynamics has played in the history of science a fundamental role far beyond its original scope. Suffice it to mention Boltzmann's work on kinetic theory, Planck's discovery of quantum theory or Einstein's theory of spontaneous emission, which were all based on the second law of thermodynamics. ~ Ilya Prigogine
Quantum Theory quotes by Ilya Prigogine
Quantum theory provides us with a striking illustration of the fact that we can fully understand a connection though we can only speak of it in images and parables. ~ Werner Heisenberg
Quantum Theory quotes by Werner Heisenberg
In Darwin's theory, you just have to substitute 'mutations' for his 'slight accidental variations' (just as quantum theory substitutes 'quantum jump' for 'continuous transfer of energy'). In all other respects little change was necessary in Darwin's theory ... ~ Erwin Schrodinger
Quantum Theory quotes by Erwin Schrodinger
Six qudit virtual photon simulator is our first approach to develop the behavior of 100 billion neurons and to build the core quantum machine learning platform. ~ Amit Ray
Quantum Theory quotes by Amit Ray
I did my masters in elementary particles. But the foundations of elementary particles is quantum theory and there were too many conceptual problems around quantum theory that I couldn't live with. So I decided I was going to work on the foundations of quantum theory. That's what I did my Ph.D on. ~ Vandana Shiva
Quantum Theory quotes by Vandana Shiva
By 2100, our destiny is to become like the gods we once worshipped and feared. But our tools will not be magic wands and potions but the science of computers, nanotechnology, artificial intelligence, biotechnology, and most of all, the quantum theory. ~ Michio Kaku
Quantum Theory quotes by Michio Kaku
Without the possibility of error and real indeterminacy implied by the quantum theory, human liberty is meaningless. ~ Heinz R. Pagels
Quantum Theory quotes by Heinz R. Pagels
Conservation of thoughts are valid in classical, relativistic, and quantum theory. Symmetries and conservation of thoughts are the two fundamentals laws of ancient mantra systems. ~ Amit Ray
Quantum Theory quotes by Amit Ray
[When thinking about the new relativity and quantum theories] I have felt a homesickness for the paths of physical science where there are ore or less discernible handrails to keep us from the worst morasses of foolishness. ~ Arthur Eddington
Quantum Theory quotes by Arthur Eddington
Anyone who did not feel dizzy when thinking about quantum theory had not
understood it. ~ Robert Gilmore, Alice In Quantumland: An Allegory Of Quantum Physics
Quantum Theory quotes by Robert Gilmore, Alice In Quantumland: An Allegory Of Quantum Physics
Physics should represent a reality in time and space, free from spooky action at a distance. ~ Walter Isaacson
Quantum Theory quotes by Walter Isaacson
Quantum mechanics tells us that every feeling is a collapse of some wave functions due to the interference of a matrix of attention functions. ~ Amit Ray
Quantum Theory quotes by Amit Ray
Chinese dialectical reasoning had an impact on the physicist Niels Bohr, who was highly knowledgeable about Eastern thought. He attributed his development of quantum theory in part to the metaphysics of the East. There had been a centuries-long debate in the West about whether light consists of particles or waves. Belief in one was assumed to contradict and render impossible belief in the other. Bohr's solution was to say that light can be thought of in both ways. In quantum theory, light can be viewed either as a particle or as a wave. Just never both at the same time. ~ Richard E. Nisbett
Quantum Theory quotes by Richard E. Nisbett
Years after Planck's death in 1947, at the age of 89, his former student and colleague James Franck recalled watching his hopeless struggle 'to avoid quantum theory, whether he could not at least make the influence of quantum theory as little as it could possibly be'.It was clear to Franck that Planck 'was a revolutionary against his own will' who 'finally came to the conclusion, "It doesn't help. We have to live with quantum theory. And believe me, it will expand."' It was a fitting epitaph for a reluctant revolutionary. ~ Manjit Kumar
Quantum Theory quotes by Manjit Kumar
Quantum field theory arose out of our need to describe the ephemeral nature of life. ~ Anthony Zee
Quantum Theory quotes by Anthony Zee
I cannot seriously believe in it [quantum theory] because the theory cannot be reconciled with the idea that physics should represent a reality in time and space, free from spooky actions at a distance [spukhafte Fernwirkungen]. ~ Albert Einstein
Quantum Theory quotes by Albert Einstein
Realizing its fundamental importance in understanding spectral lines, in atomic physics and in the theory of how light and electrons interact, quantum electrodynamics, Pauli and Heisenberg were determined to derive it from quantum theory rather than introducing it from the start. They believed that if they could find a version of quantum electrodynamics capable of producing the fine structure constant, it would not contain the infinities that marred their theories. ~ Arthur I. Miller
Quantum Theory quotes by Arthur I. Miller
The chemist Peter Atkins correctly observed, "Natural selection was a revolution and a stepping-stone to fame; so was relativity, and so was quantum theory. The sheer thrill of discovery is the spur to greater effort. All young scientists aspire to revolution." The same can't be said for theologians (Martin Luther is a rare exception), who either bear their heresies in silence or aspire only to trivial reinterpretations of church doctrine. ~ Jerry A. Coyne
Quantum Theory quotes by Jerry A. Coyne
To apply quantum theory to the entire universe... is tricky... particles of matter fired at a screen with two slits in it... exhibit interference patterns just as water waves do.

Feynman showed that this arises because a particle does not have a unique history.

That is, as it moves from its starting point A to some endpoint B, it doesn't take one definite path, but rather simultaneously takes every possible path connecting the two points.

From this point of view, interference is no surprise because, for instance, the particle can travel through both slits at the same time and interfere with itself.

In this view, the universe appeared spontaneously, starting off in every possible way. ~ Stephen Hawking
Quantum Theory quotes by Stephen Hawking
Those who are not shocked when they first come across quantum theory cannot possibly have understood it. ~ Niels Bohr
Quantum Theory quotes by Niels Bohr
Just a dozen of high quality qudits will be sufficient to simulate the state of 100 billion neurons of human brain for quantum machine learning. ~ Amit Ray
Quantum Theory quotes by Amit Ray
Here the attention of the research workers is primarily directed to the problem of reconciling the claims of the special relativity theory with those of the quantum theory. The extraordinary advances made in this field by Dirac ... leave open the question whether it will be possible to satisfy the claims of the two theories without at the same time determining the Sommerfeld fine-structure constant. ~ Werner Heisenberg
Quantum Theory quotes by Werner Heisenberg
Heisenberg's uncertainty relation measures the amount by which the complementary descriptions of the electron, or other fundamental entities, overlap. Position is very much a particle property - particles can be located precisely. Waves, on the other hand, have no precise location, but they do have momentum. The more you know about the wave aspect of reality, the less you know about the particle, and vice versa. Experiments designed to detect particles always detect particles; experiments designed to detect waves always detect waves. No experiment shows the electron behaving like a wave and a particle at the same time. ~ John Gribbin
Quantum Theory quotes by John Gribbin
I like relativity and quantum theories because I don't understand them and they make me feel as if space shifted about like a swan that can't settle, refusing to sit still and be measured; and as if the atom were an impulsive thing always changing its mind. ~ D.H. Lawrence
Quantum Theory quotes by D.H. Lawrence
The revolution which began with the creation of quantum theory and relativity theory can only be finished with their unification into a single theory that can give us a single, comprehensive picture of nature. ~ Lee Smolin
Quantum Theory quotes by Lee Smolin
Our deepest description of physical reality, in quantum theory and in the four Core Theories of forces (gravitation, electromagnetism, strong and weak forces), bring in concepts that call to mind yin and yang. Niels Bohr, an influential founder of quantum theory, saw strong parallels between his concept of complementarity and the unified duality of yin-yang. He designed a coat of arms for himself, in which the yin-yang figures centrally (see figure 42, page 324). Our Core Theories center on the interplay between lightlike space filling fluids (yang) and substances (yin) they both direct and respond to. ~ Frank Wilczek
Quantum Theory quotes by Frank Wilczek
The more success the quantum theory has, the sillier it looks. How nonphysicists would scoff if they were able to follow the odd course of developments! ~ Albert Einstein
Quantum Theory quotes by Albert Einstein
Scientific realism in classical (i.e. pre-quantum) physics has remained compatible with the naive realism of everyday thinking on the whole; whereas it has proven impossible to find any consistent way to visualize the world underlying quantum theory in terms of our pictures in the everyday world. The general conclusion is that in quantum theory naive realism, although necessary at the level of observations, fails at the microscopic level. ~ Ravi Gomatam
Quantum Theory quotes by Ravi Gomatam
Under the microscope of quantum attention function we can explain EPR paradox, bell inequalities, W and GHZ state, quantum entanglement, decoherence, nonlocality, and quantum correlations in a coherent manner. ~ Amit Ray
Quantum Theory quotes by Amit Ray
As Sommerfeld said in his famous text "Spectral Lines and Atomic Constitution," on which a generation of physicists learned the subject, "In the fine structure constant e is the representative of the electron theory, h the appropriate representative of the quantum theory, c comes from relativity and characterizes it in contrast to classical theory. ~ Emilio Segre
Quantum Theory quotes by Emilio Segre
If we try to make general inferences about the theoretical possibility of a reliable computational model of the brain, we ought indeed to come to terms with the mysteries of quantum theory. ~ Roger Penrose
Quantum Theory quotes by Roger Penrose
The dynamics of the seven phases of the quasi quanta metamorphosis processes are governed by the hierarchical networks of quantum attention functions. ~ Amit Ray
