I'm Dee Black. I'm the sister of the douchebag known as Daemon." She smiled brightly. "But you probably already know that."
"That's he's a douchebag or that he's your brother?" Archer asked innocently. "The answer is yes to both. ~ Jennifer L. Armentrout
Dee Black quotes by Jennifer L. Armentrout
She giggled, then popped a lollipop back in her mouth. "Okay, before you tell me no, I already cleared it with Ash."
I frowned. "Cleared what?"
"Ash is throwing a little New Year's Eve party at her house. It's just going to be a few of us. Daemon is going."
"Uh, I doubt Ash is okay with me going to her party."
"No, she is." Dee pinged around the living room like a captured butterfly. "She promised she'd be cool with it. I think you're growing on her."
"Like mold," I muttered. ~ Jennifer L. Armentrout
Dee Black quotes by Jennifer L. Armentrout
She wore heavy sandals, with socks. No kid in the entire state of Mississippi wore black socks in the summer. Shoot, if I wasn't standing smack-dab in the middle of the library, I wouldn't be wearing shoes. ~ Augusta Scattergood
Dee Black quotes by Augusta Scattergood
Those who are most sensitive about "politically incorrect" terminology are not the average black ghetto-dweller, Asian immigrant, abused woman or disabled person, but a minority of activists, many of whom do not even belong to any "oppressed" group but come from privileged strata of society. ~ Theodore Kaczynski
Dee Black quotes by Theodore Kaczynski
My life seems to be an increasing revelation of the intimate face of universal struggle. You begin with your family and the kids on the block, and next you open your eyes to what you call your people and that leads you into land reform into Black English into Angola leads you back into your own bed where you lie by yourself, wondering if you deserve to be peaceful, or trusted or desired or left to the freedom of your own unfaltering heart. And the scale shrinks to the size of a skull: your own interior cage. ~ June Jordan
Dee Black quotes by June Jordan
I don't have anything bad to say about the guy they hired to replace me, Ronnie James Dio, who'd previously been with Rainbow. He's a great singer. Then again, he ain't me, and I ain't him. So I just wish they'd called the band Black Sabbath II. ~ Ozzy Osbourne
Dee Black quotes by Ozzy Osbourne
If I only drink beer, nothing stronger, then by the end of the night I can generally recognize myself as a reasonable human being, and more importantly, wake up that way. ~ Robert Black
Dee Black quotes by Robert Black
As I wouldn't wear a costume, I couldn't imagine him wanting to wear one. And seeing that the greater part of my wardrobe is black (It's a sensible colour. It goes with anything. Well, anything black)[ ... ]. ~ Neil Gaiman
Dee Black quotes by Neil Gaiman
When I joined Bill Clinton's start-up presidential campaign in 1991, I was confident that women would play an ever more important role, but I never gave a minute's thought to what would happen if we won. When we did - and I became the first woman to serve as White House press secretary - it changed my life. But it didn't change the world. ~ Dee Dee Myers
Dee Black quotes by Dee Dee Myers
I had to watch the Republican stuff which makes me feel even older than I am. By the time I get through the Democrats, I may be dead. I don't know how much older I can get. ~ Lewis Black
Dee Black quotes by Lewis Black
When Dylann Roof walked into a black church, he wanted to start a race war. We didn't let him do that because we didn't cast him as a representative of the white race. We didn't give into his narrative. We did the exact opposite. And I think that we have to be careful not to give into the apocalyptic narrative of ISIS that wants to start a war between Muslims and everybody else. ~ Chuck Todd
Dee Black quotes by Chuck Todd
The human mind is so limited it can only build an arbitrary heaven - and usually the physical comforts they endow it with are naively the kind that can be perceived as we humans perceive - nothing more. No: perhaps I will awake to find myself burning in hell. I think not. I think I will be snuffed out. Black is sleep; black is a fainting spell; and black is death, with no light, no waking. ~ Sylvia Plath
Dee Black quotes by Sylvia Plath
It unnerved her, how not wrong he was. ~ Holly Black
Dee Black quotes by Holly Black
I came across a photograph of him not long ago ... his black face, the long snout sniffing at something in the air, his tail straight and pointing, his eyes flashing in some momentary excitement. Looking at a faded photograph taken more than forty years before, even as a grown man, I would admit I still missed him. ~ Willie Morris
Dee Black quotes by Willie Morris
I have found in black metal the lyrics are profoundly beautiful ... a pathos and mythos at the same time. ~ Ryan Adams
Dee Black quotes by Ryan Adams
Like books and black lives, albums still matter. ~ Prince
Dee Black quotes by Prince
Only happy people have nightmares, from overeating. For those who live a nightmare reality, sleep is a black hole, lost in time, like death. ~ Guy Sajer
Dee Black quotes by Guy Sajer
This book was written by a traitor to his class. It is dedicated to bigots everywhere. Ladies and gentlemen of the black shirts, I call upon you to unite, to strike with claws and kitchen pokers, to burn the grub-worms of equality's brood with sulfur and oil, to huddle together whispering about the silverfish in your basements, to make decrees in your great solemn rotten assemblies concerning what is proper, for you have nothing to lose but your last feeble principles. ~ William T. Vollmann
Dee Black quotes by William T. Vollmann
Daughter, daughter, shining bright
Precious jewel within mine sight
Oh, if I could soar with thee
As you seek your destiny.

To see with you the caves and skies
Vistas grand beneath your eyes
Taking wing to horizons new
Let us wonder who waits for you.

A dragon bright?
A dragon dark?
Victor of duels with battle mark?
A dragon strong?
A dragon keen?
Singer of honors and triumphs seen?

Red, Gold, Bronze, and Blue
To your lord you shall be true,
Copper, Silver, Black, and White,
Who will win your mating flight?

For in your hearts our future rests
To see our line with hatchlings blessed
And for those who threaten clutch of flame,
To feel the wrath of dragon-dame. ~ E.E. Knight
Dee Black quotes by E.E. Knight
There was a girl who used to hide behind the moon with her legs bent against it like tiny fishhooks, as if she were the only thing keeping all that grey from tilting on it's orbit and grazing against the skin of the Earth. The stars left tiny burn marks on her skin that sizzled when she touched them so that she sounded like raindrops in summer when she walked. The stars fell on her back so often it wore away in the shape of a fin. She bathed in the white moonlight and it made her skin more pale so her eyes looked wider. Her eyes were so wide that she could take much more in as she watched earth like the clouds over it were stage curtains being drawn back. Ta-da-do-rah! And then at the end the people cried and their tears fell from the earth and into the craters making pools for her fishhook legs to catch their stories in. One letter at a time falling away into the velvet black backdrop curtain before she could hold them. And the people sighed, mouths all open wide, people always cry at endings. ~ KI
Dee Black quotes by KI
The Deliverator belongs to an elite order, a hallow subcategory. He's got esprit up to here. Right now, he is preparing to carry out his third mission of the night. His uniform is black as activated charcoal, filtering the very light out of the air. A bullet will bounce off its arachnofiber weave like a wren hitting a patio door, but excess perspiration wafts through it like a breeze through a freshly napalmed forest. Where his body has bony extremities, the suit has sintered armorgel: feels like gritty jello, protects like a stack of telephone books. ~ Neal Stephenson
Dee Black quotes by Neal Stephenson
People only say I'm angry because I'm black and I'm a woman. But all sorts of people write with strong feeling, the way I do. ~ Jamaica Kincaid
Dee Black quotes by Jamaica Kincaid
At ten I was playing against 18-year-old guys. At 15 I was playing professional ball with the Birmingham Black Barons, so I really came very quickly in all sports. ~ Willie Mays
Dee Black quotes by Willie Mays
There are not more than five primary colors (blue, yellow, red, white, and black), yet in combination they produce more hues than can ever been seen. ~ Sun Tzu
Dee Black quotes by Sun Tzu
Depression makes you seek lonely places, and that is what I started doing during the second semester of my first year in college. The black creek, the woods, the empty fields, the old cemetery-anywhere away from people, away from their critical eyes. I would seek out these places, choosing routes and times that would mean I could avoid as many people as possible. ~ Samantha Abeel
Dee Black quotes by Samantha Abeel
My mother was gone. The whole world should be black and cold. Nothing should look beautiful. ~ Rick Riordan
Dee Black quotes by Rick Riordan
Las Vegas has become a child's picture-book dream of a city-here a storybook castle, there a sphinx-flanked black pyramid beaming white light into the darkness as a landing beam for UFOs, and everywhere neon oracles and twisting screens predict happiness and good fortune, announce singers and comedians and magicians in residence or on their way, and the lights always flash and beckon and call. Once every hour a volcano erupts in light and flame. Once every hour a pirate ship sinks a man o'war. ~ Neil Gaiman
Dee Black quotes by Neil Gaiman
I never watched the Oscars. Come on, it's a fashion show ... What straight black man sits there and watches the Oscars? Show me one. And they don't recognize comedy, and you don't see a lot of black people nominated, so why should I watch it? ~ Chris Rock
Dee Black quotes by Chris Rock
D'yer see it? This finger, laddie, could send ye to meet yer Maker!
Sgt. Deisenburger stared at the black and purple nail a few inches from his face. As an offensive weapon it rated quite highly, especially if it was ever used in the preparation of food. ~ Terry Pratchett
Dee Black quotes by Terry Pratchett
So Hosaka's built a regular little neurosurgery and staffed it with three hotshots. Two of them are company men, the third's a Korean who knows black medicine from both ends. ~ William Gibson
Dee Black quotes by William Gibson
The Republican Party just isn't held in high repute in the black community. Under Bill Brock we were reaching out to broaden the base of the party. We have to go back to that. ~ Charles H. Percy
Dee Black quotes by Charles H. Percy
An unconditional right to say what one pleases about public affairs is what I consider to be the minimum guarantee of the First Amendment. ~ Hugo Black
Dee Black quotes by Hugo Black
The Congressional Black Caucus is a moral fraud. It's amazing how many people are afraid of saying that ~ Dennis Prager
Dee Black quotes by Dennis Prager
There are two things I know about life ... Only the good die young but the real jerks will live forever. ~ Lewis Black
Dee Black quotes by Lewis Black
No matter where you go in the world, a German will have beaten you there, clad in a sweaty black T-shirt and a smug expression. ~ Claire Dederer
Dee Black quotes by Claire Dederer
Mostly, though, he looked at the girl, with her red hair and bare white arms. There was something about the whiteness of those arms that made them seem more naked than the bare arms of other women in church. A lot of red heads had freckles, but she looked as if she had been carved from a block of soap ... She was very pretty, about his age, her hair braided into a silky rope the colour of black cherries. She was fingering a delicate gold cross around her throat, and she turned it just so, into the sunlight, and it shone, became a cruciform flame. She lingered on the gesture, making it a kind of confession, then turned the cross away. ~ Joe Hill
Dee Black quotes by Joe Hill
Black women have always been friends. I mean, if you didn't have each other you had nothing. ~ Toni Morrison
Dee Black quotes by Toni Morrison
Shiloh had never seen a man who was a hunter. But she saw one now. There was an intense feeling around Roan, raw and untamed, as he studied her, his nostrils flaring to catch her scent. He ruthlessly dug into her opening eyes, reading her, trying to understand where she was at within herself and what she wanted from him.
"This is your call," he said, his voice low and guttural. ~ Lindsay McKenna
Dee Black quotes by Lindsay McKenna
I'M LOSING FAITH IN MY FAVORITE COUNTRY

Throughout my life, the United States has been my favorite country, save and except for Canada, where I was born, raised, educated, and still live for six months each year. As a child growing up in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada, I aggressively bought and saved baseball cards of American and National League players, spent hours watching snowy images of American baseball and football games on black and white television and longed for the day when I could travel to that great country. Every Saturday afternoon, me and the boys would pay twelve cents to go the show and watch U.S. made movies, and particularly, the Superman serial. Then I got my chance. My father, who worked for B.F. Goodrich, took my brother and me to watch the Cleveland Indians play baseball in the Mistake on the Lake in Cleveland. At last I had made it to the big time. I thought it was an amazing stadium and it was certainly not a mistake. Amazingly, the Americans thought we were Americans.

I loved the United States, and everything about the country: its people, its movies, its comic books, its sports, and a great deal more. The country was alive and growing. No, exploding. It was the golden age of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. The American dream was alive and well, but demanded hard work, honesty, and frugality. Everyone understood that. Even the politicians.

Then everything changed.

Partly because of its proximity to ~ Stephen Douglass
Dee Black quotes by Stephen Douglass
Images flicker, each one bringing its own sorrow or its own smile. Sometimes both. At the very worst, an impenetrable and sightless black and at best, a happiness so bright that it hurts the eyes to see, coming and going on some unseen projector perpetually turned by an invisible hand. One, then another. The hollow click of the shutter. Now stop. Freeze this frame. Pluck it down and hold it close and be damned by what you see. Henri always said: the price of a memory is the memory if the sorrow it brings. ~ Pittacus Lore
Dee Black quotes by Pittacus Lore
Nay then, let the devil wear black, for I'll have a suit of sables. ~ William Shakespeare
Dee Black quotes by William Shakespeare
When people come to my act any time after Thanksgiving, I usually say, You shouldn't be here. You should be shopping. Our economy depends on you! You should be out there buying stuff.' ~ Lewis Black
Dee Black quotes by Lewis Black
Everywhere, people are beginning to question masculine notions of control, aggression and black-and-white thinking - and instead are favoring more empathetic, nurturing and collaborative approaches. ~ John Gerzema
Dee Black quotes by John Gerzema
If you have to change something about you to be in a part, I don't think it's easy to do. You should just pick the part where you can just be yourself. ~ Lucas Black
Dee Black quotes by Lucas Black
I'm a black lady from the Lower East Side of New York. Not a lot intimidates me. ~ Ursula Burns
Dee Black quotes by Ursula Burns
The plain shiprock walls, and the painted statue of Lord Pas (from which the paint was peeling) will remain with me until the day I die, always somewhat colored by the wonder I felt as a small boy at seeing a black cock struggling in the old man's hands after he had cut its throat, its wings beating frantically, beating as if they might live after all, live somehow somewhere, if only they could spray the whole place with blood before they ~ Gene Wolfe
Dee Black quotes by Gene Wolfe
The amused heat in Lucien eyes scorched her. In that moment she wasn't ordinary Sophie Black, builder's PA and invisible wife. She was sexy and sophisticated Ms. Black, able to stop Viking sex-gods in their tracks with just a few little words. She noticed the way Lucien's throat worked as he swallowed before he spoke.
You start in the morning. Nine o' clock sharp. Don't be late, Ms. Black. ~ Kitty French
Dee Black quotes by Kitty French
You make me think before I act. You make me want to be a better person-Luxen-whatever. ~ Jennifer L. Armentrout
Dee Black quotes by Jennifer L. Armentrout
This power, this black power, originates in a view of the American galaxy taken from a dark and essential planet. Black power is the dungeon-side view of Monticello - which is to say, the view taken in struggle. And black power births a kind of understanding that illuminates all the galaxies in their truest colors. ~ Ta-Nehisi Coates
Dee Black quotes by Ta-Nehisi Coates
In the end, the only heritage we have is our planet, and I have decided to go to the most pristine places on the planet and photograph them in the most honest way I know, with my point of view, and of course it is in black and white, because it is the only thing I know how to do. ~ Sebastiao Salgado
