Andrew Davidson quotes by Andrew Davidson
God cannot be referred to as 'good,' 'better,' or 'best' because He is above all things. If a man says that God is wise, the man is lying because anything that is wise can become wiser. Anything that a man might say about God is incorrect ... The best a man can do is to remain silent ... The true master knows that if he had a God he could understand, he would never hold Him to be God. ~ Andrew Davidson
Andrew Davidson quotes by Andrew Davidson

Andrew Davidson quotes by Andrew Davidson
As in any proper fairy tale, there's a majick formula, in this case called the Rule of Nines. ~ Andrew Davidson

Andrew Davidson quotes by Andrew Davidson
You'll swoop from incredible highs when you're just glad to be alive, to those lows when you wish you were dead. And just when you start thinking that you've accepted who you are, that changes, too. Because who you are is not permanent ~ Andrew Davidson
Andrew Davidson quotes by Andrew Davidson

Andrew Davidson quotes by Andrew Davidson
Hell is a choice because salvation is available to anyone who seeks it. ~ Andrew Davidson
Andrew Davidson quotes by Andrew Davidson
I once knew a woman who liked to imagine Love in the guise of a sturdy dog, one that would always chase down the stick after it was thrown and return with his ears flopping around happily. Completely loyal, completely unconditional. And I laughed at her, because even I knew that love is not like that. Love is a delicate thing that needs to be cosseted and protected. Love is not robust and love is not unyeilding. Love can crumble under a few harsh words, or be tossed away with a handful of careless actions. Love isn't a steadfast dog at all; love is more like a pygmy mouse lemur. ~ Andrew Davidson
Andrew Davidson quotes by Andrew Davidson
The serpent tries to engulf my head. No, not a snake, an oxygen mask. ~ Andrew Davidson
Andrew Davidson quotes by Andrew Davidson
My skin will never work like that again, so aware of the other person that I'm unsure where she ends and I begin. Never again. Never again will my skin be a thing that can so perfectly communicate; in losing my skin to the fire, I also lost the opportunity to make it disappear with another person. ~ Andrew Davidson
Andrew Davidson quotes by Andrew Davidson
Don't be wasting your sympathy on me, kid. I did pretty damn well, I'll tell you what. You snag a woman like that, you don't ask what you did to deserve it. You just hope she never wises up and changes her mind. ~ Andrew Davidson
Andrew Davidson quotes by Andrew Davidson
I am not a hero in soul and never will be, but I am better than I was before. Or so I tell myself; and for now that is enough. ~ Andrew Davidson
Andrew Davidson quotes by Andrew Davidson
Any man who believes he can describe love', I answered, 'understands nothing about it. ~ Andrew Davidson
Andrew Davidson quotes by Andrew Davidson
There's the smell of the devil's mischievousness, a pitchfork in your ass and sulfur in your mouth. The Bastard's there, all right, don't doubt it. ~ Andrew Davidson
Andrew Davidson quotes by Andrew Davidson
But the truth is that I dislike most men as much as I dislike women. If anything, I am an equal opportunity misanthropist. ~ Andrew Davidson
Andrew Davidson quotes by Andrew Davidson
How could I protect myself? I had the Viking's scabbard, but not the sword; I had the Buddhist's robe, but not the faith. ~ Andrew Davidson
Andrew Davidson quotes by Andrew Davidson
Who would have guessed that the monster of fraud was a democracy? ~ Andrew Davidson
Andrew Davidson quotes by Andrew Davidson
The doctors removed my wasteland exterior by debriding me, scraping away the charred flesh. they brought in tanks of liquid nitrogen containing skin recently harvested from corpses. The sheets were thawed in pans of water, then neatly arranged on my back and stapled into place. Just like that, as if they were laying strips of sod over the problem areas behind their summer cabins, they wrapped me in the skin of the dead. My body was cleaned constantly but I rejected these sheets of necro-flesh anyway; I've never played well with others. So over and over again, I was sheeted with cadaver skin. ~ Andrew Davidson
Andrew Davidson quotes by Andrew Davidson
If you cannot love the pain, you can at least love the lessons it teaches ~ Andrew Davidson
Andrew Davidson quotes by Andrew Davidson
What is it like to wear another person's skin?"

Andrew Davidson quotes by Andrew Davidson
All history is just one man trying to take something away from another man, and usually it doesn't really belong to either of them. ~ Andrew Davidson
Andrew Davidson quotes by Andrew Davidson
Just as I was beginning my drift into unconsciousness, there was an explosion. Not a movie explosion but a small real-life explosion, like the ignition of an unhappy gas oven that holds a grudge against its owner. ~ Andrew Davidson
Andrew Davidson quotes by Andrew Davidson
That which is painful sharpens one's love. ~ Andrew Davidson
Andrew Davidson quotes by Andrew Davidson
252. "Quod me nutrit, me destruit. (Latin for: That which nourishes me also destroys me.) ~ The Gargoyle By Andrew Davidson
Andrew Davidson quotes by The Gargoyle By Andrew Davidson
Following my accident, I plumped up like a freshly roasted wiener, my skin cracking to accommodate the expanding meat. The doctors, with their hungry scalpels, hastened the process with a few quick slices. The procedure is called an escharotomy, and it gives the swelling tissue the freedom to expand. It's rather like the uprising of your secret inner being, finally given license to claw through the surface. The doctors thought they had sliced me open to commence my healing but, in fact, they only release the monster- a thing of engorged flesh, suffused with juice. ~ Andrew Davidson
Andrew Davidson quotes by Andrew Davidson
Scatology was strictly out, as nowhere in my psyche do I harbor the desire to shit on someone and even less do I have the inclination to be shat upon. And if I a a snob for not participating in films that involve sex with animals, then so be it; I am a snob. ~ Andrew Davidson
Andrew Davidson quotes by Andrew Davidson
That kind of love was a thing to be snatched up and crushed in the jaws of real life. ~ Andrew Davidson
Andrew Davidson quotes by Andrew Davidson
Coincidentally, a good age for a Japanese girl is younger than twenty five, because that's when she turns into a 'Christmas Cake'. Christmas cakes, as everyone knows, are desirable before the twenty fifth but afterward quickly become stale and are put on the shelf. ~ Andrew Davidson
Andrew Davidson quotes by Andrew Davidson
Some day soon," Lance said, "you'll walk out of here and have to decide how you're going to live the rest of your lives. Will you be defined by what other people see, or by the essence of your soul? ~ Andrew Davidson
Andrew Davidson quotes by Andrew Davidson
This will mark the third time that an arrow has entered my chest. The first time brought me to Marianne Engel. The second time separated us.
The third time will reunite us. ~ Andrew Davidson
Andrew Davidson quotes by Andrew Davidson
With every fragment of rock that fall from me, I can hear the voice of Marianne Engle. I love you. Aishiteru. Ego amo te. Ti amo. Eg elska pig. Ich liebe dich. It is moving across time, coming to me in every language of the world, and it sounds like pure love. ~ Andrew Davidson
Andrew Davidson quotes by Andrew Davidson
I have no idea whether beginning with my accident was the best decision, as I've never written a book before. Truth be told, I started with the crash because I wanted to catch your interest and drag you into the story. You're still reading, so it seems to have worked. ~ Andrew Davidson
Andrew Davidson quotes by Andrew Davidson
My words were Egyptian hieroglyphics before the discovery of the Rosetta stone; my words were wounded soldiers limping home, guns spent, from a lost battle; my words were dying fish, flipping hysterically as the net is opened and the pile spreads across the boat deck like a slippery mountain trying to become a prairie.
My words were, and are, unworthy of Marianne Engel. ~ Andrew Davidson
Andrew Davidson quotes by Andrew Davidson
While it is true that outside the library I have lived a life of wickedness, inside it I've always been as devoted to knowledge as a saint to his Bible. ~ Andrew Davidson

Andrew Davidson quotes by Andrew Davidson
Every Good Friday, this anchored but ever-changing anniversary of my accident, I go to the little creek that saved my life and light one more candle. I offer thanks for two facts: that I am one year older, and that I am one year closer to death. ~ Andrew Davidson
Andrew Davidson quotes by Andrew Davidson
Talking with the mouth of a beast won't ease your pain. ~ Andrew Davidson
Andrew Davidson quotes by Andrew Davidson
The burn unit is often the most distant wing of a hospital, because burn victims are so susceptible to infection that they must be kept away from other patients. More important, perhaps, is that the placement minimizes the chance of visitors stumbling across a Kentucky Fried Human. ~ Andrew Davidson
Andrew Davidson quotes by Andrew Davidson
Defeat itself is defeated by the embrace of defeat, and death is swallowed up in victory. ~ Andrew Davidson

Andrew Davidson quotes by Andrew Davidson
There was just too much evidence, from too many witnesses, pointing too many fingers at Ryan and his colleague for either defense team to have been able to portray it as a coincidence or a witch hunt or anything short of widespread corruption. And that's why we see this verdict. ~ Andrew Cohen
Andrew Davidson quotes by Andrew Cohen
After an All-Blacks surprise loss to the French in the 1999 Rugby World Cup: The French are predictably unpredictable. ~ Andrew Mehrtens
Andrew Davidson quotes by Andrew Mehrtens
While people argue with one another about the specifics of Freud's work and blame him for the prejudices of his time, they overlook the fundamental truth of his writing, his grand humility: that we frequently do not know our own motivations in life and are prisoners to what we cannot understand. We can recognize only a small fragment of our own, and an even smaller fragment of anyone else's, impetus. ~ Andrew Solomon
Andrew Davidson quotes by Andrew Solomon
My father was a Muslim immigrant; when Donald Trump started talking about banning Muslim immigrants from this country, I grew my beard out. My mother hated it. She never wanted me to look particularly "Muslim." She thought if I grew my beard out that people would know, right? "Don't make it hard for yourself. Don't let people know." ~ Andrew Aydin
Andrew Davidson quotes by Andrew Aydin
Under the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, a company is not allowed to provide a personal benefit to a decision maker in return for business. But hiring the sons and daughters of powerful executives and politicians is hardly just the province of banks doing business in China: it has been a time-tested practice here in the United States. ~ Andrew Ross Sorkin
Andrew Davidson quotes by Andrew Ross Sorkin
What Andrew Cuomo said is, truly, a scandal. It's a scandal if he actually thinks it - that those who hold conservative views on abortion, gun rights and marriage are extreme, anathema and have no place in the state. ~ Peggy Noonan
Andrew Davidson quotes by Peggy Noonan

Andrew Davidson quotes by Andrew Dice Clay
when agile projects fail, it's often because of cultural and philosophical differences between waterfall and agile methodologies. ~ Andrew Stellman
Andrew Davidson quotes by Andrew Stellman
The lady in the liquor store sold me a fifth of whiskey and the landlord's name without taking her eyes off the book she was reading. ~ Andrew Cotto
Andrew Davidson quotes by Andrew Cotto
Life (like love) is forgiving and hopeful and, like a bold flower pushing out from the narrow crevice in a rock, will take any gap we allow. However small or large. ~ Sally Andrew
Andrew Davidson quotes by Sally Andrew
Humility, the place of entire dependence on God, is the first duty and the highest virtue of the creature, and the root of every virtue. And so pride, or the loss of this humility, is the root of every sin and evil. ~ Andrew Murray
Andrew Davidson quotes by Andrew Murray
Andrew Hacker argues that algebra and trigonometry and calculus are subjects that almost nobody used after they graduate, and so why should we continue to compel students to try to pass them? ~ Anya Kamenetz
Andrew Davidson quotes by Anya Kamenetz
Andrew would also drape his arm around my shoulders and then leave it there. Don't get me wrong, there's a thirteen-year-old girl inside of me who thrills at the fact that a boy is actually putting his arm around her. But there's also an eighteen-year-old (soon to be nineteen) who just thinks hello, it's called personal space. When the food comes that's pretty much cue to remove the arm. ~ Alicia Thompson
Andrew Davidson quotes by Alicia Thompson
Breakfast is so important, so I'll make an omelet with cheese and deli meats, and then I'll eat muesli and yogurt mixed with fruit or oatmeal with fruit - and then a side of baked beans. ~ Andrew Luck
Andrew Davidson quotes by Andrew Luck
Not only had I got rid of the theology and the supernatural, but I had found the truth of evolution. ~ Andrew Carnegie
Andrew Davidson quotes by Andrew Carnegie
There must be a special, less volcanic portion of hell that was partitioned off and set aside for people who weren't all bad, just a little vindictive. They could call it the drama queen ward. It would be a huge hit. ~ Darynda Jones
Andrew Davidson quotes by Darynda Jones
My ambition is to construct a painting so that the whole of its surface is alive, however I look at it. Each mark, and the interval between each mark must give something back on its own terms. ~ Andrew Forge
Andrew Davidson quotes by Andrew Forge
It's hard for me to believe that World Trade Center building 7 came down by itself twenty years from now, people will look at 911 the way we look at the assassination of JFK today. It couldn't possibly have been done the way the government told us. ~ Andrew Napolitano
Andrew Davidson quotes by Andrew Napolitano
An 'exchange' would allow everyone to choose their health care insurance from a broad range of options - just like federal employees and Congress do right now - and allow their employer to help pay for it. ~ Andrew P. Harris
Andrew Davidson quotes by Andrew P. Harris
And I found out about the wonderful world of sign language. I suddenly realized: If we as a society recognize Jewish culture, gay culture and Latino culture, we must recognize that this is a coherent culture, too. I think deafness is a disability for social constructionist reasons. ~ Andrew Solomon
Andrew Davidson quotes by Andrew Solomon
A new danger now beset him [Grotius], the danger of becoming simply a venal pleader, a creature who grinds out arguments on this or that side, for this or that client: a mere legal beast of prey. Fortunately for himself and for the world he took a higher view of his life-work: his determination clearly was to make himself a thoroughly equipped jurist, and then, as he rose more and more in his profession, to use his powers for the good of his country and of mankind. ~ Andrew Dickson White
Andrew Davidson quotes by Andrew Dickson White
Angels are wonderful and exciting, and they have the appeal of beings who will take care of us and manifest God's personal concern. ~ Andrew Greeley
Andrew Davidson quotes by Andrew Greeley
I find virtue to be found amongst the farmers of the country alone, not about courts, where courtiers dwell. ~ Andrew Jackson
Andrew Davidson quotes by Andrew Jackson
Since I am writing a book about depression, I am often asked in social situations to describe my own experiences, and I usually end by saying that I am on medication.
"Still?" people ask. "But you seem fine!" To which I invariably reply that I seem fine because I am fine, and that I am fine in part because of medication.
"So how long do you expect to go on taking this stuff?" people ask. When I say that I will be on medication indefinitely, people who have dealt calmly and sympathetically with the news of suicide attempts, catatonia, missed years of work, significant loss of body weight, and so on stare at me with alarm.
"But it's really bad to be on medicine that way," they say. "Surely now you are strong enough to be able to phase out some of these drugs!" If you say to them that this is like phasing the carburetor out of your car or the buttresses out of Notre Dame, they laugh.
"So maybe you'll stay on a really low maintenance dose?" They ask. You explain that the level of medication you take was chosen because it normalizes the systems that can go haywire, and that a low dose of medication would be like removing half of your carburetor. You add that you have experienced almost no side effects from the medication you are taking, and that there is no evidence of negative effects of long-term medication. You say that you really don't want to get sick again. But wellness is still, in this area, associated not with achieving control of your problem, but ~ Andrew Solomon
Andrew Davidson quotes by Andrew Solomon
In many ways Nazism was antithetical to what the great mass of Germans said they admired - and certainly to what they paid homage. It was noisy, undisciplined, vainglorious; its leader was a half-educated posturing foreigner. For a decade the National Socialists were regarded as hoodlums, as part of the breakdown of what had been, if anything, an excessively ordered society before. ~ Eugene Davidson
Andrew Davidson quotes by Eugene Davidson

Andrew Davidson quotes by Andrew J. Bacevich
A rule of thumb: If the company you work for provides a product or service that's pretty much the same as what was offered last year and a few years before that, it might be time to start looking for something new. ~ Adam Davidson
Andrew Davidson quotes by Adam Davidson
I don't think it's a coincidence this happened. God does things for a reason ... It's a good message for back home. ~ Andrew Whitworth
Andrew Davidson quotes by Andrew Whitworth
Gah, I bet she secretly takes pictures of him and puts them on her inspiration board of men she wants to f*ck. I bet she calls it her f*cket list. And once she gets them to fall for her boob-flopping ways, she puts them in a scrapbook and looks through that book every night, reminiscing on the penises that once stuffed her vagina. Well, not Andrew. There is no way she's getting her reconstructed nipples on my guy. ~ Meghan Quinn
