The things that are most popular are usually rubbish, stand up for what's important, not popular. ~ Alan Moore
Woke Culture quotes by Alan Moore
The creative work place is based on a triangle with three vertices - culture, method, and people. ~ Pearl Zhu
Woke Culture quotes by Pearl Zhu
My honors thesis project was my first interactive exhibit, in which two facing chairs were activated by a motion sensor when the viewer walked by. One was a cofortable armchair of plush red velvet, with a dildo sticking out of a hole in the seat. When activated, the dildo moved up and down and a strobe light pulsed. The facing chair was hard and uncomfortable, with spikes protruding from the seat, and when the viewer walked by it a dog would bark. The juxtaposition of the two chairs was meant to represent how forces of repression censor the desire for liberation.

In that same exhibition, I showed a handmade box in the shape of a cross, decorated with a beautiful painting of the Holy Trinity. The viewer was encouraged to open the box, where they would find a dildo wrapped in the American flag and nailed to a cross-- this was meant to symbolize the hypocrisy and repression that is hidden under the attractive facade of organized religion. The dildo was surrounded by pages from the Bible, which were themselves surrounded by images of the sickness and starvation caused by the embargo in Iraq, a comment on the effects of imposing one culture and religion on another. ~ Wafaa Bilal
Woke Culture quotes by Wafaa Bilal
The fact is, man has never stayed by a single ideal. The mass enthusiasm when you were young gave way to cool, rationalistic classicism. Today that's being drowned in turn by a kind of neoromanticism. God knows where that will lead. I probably won't approve. Regardless, new generations grow up. We've no right to freeze them into our own mold. The universe is too wide. ~ Poul Anderson
Woke Culture quotes by Poul Anderson
American Christianity is based more on a godless culture than it is the word of God. ~ Paul Washer
Woke Culture quotes by Paul Washer
This is not hyperbole. It is possible for the average professor to have been taught by leftists, grown up in a left-leaning city, read only left-leaning books, entertained by leftists in pop culture and became a professor without holding a job outside academia. How can we expect these professors to adequately explain what people who oppose them believe? ~ Lee Doren
Woke Culture quotes by Lee Doren
The history of otaku culture is one of adaptation, of how to domesticate American culture. ~ Hiroki Azuma
Woke Culture quotes by Hiroki Azuma
The Sabbat arose as a conspiracy to destroy the rotten edifice of Church and State, meeting on the heath to avoid the gaze of authority, guised in anonymity and foreboding. This revolutionized the nature of witchcraft, regardless of the pre-existence of the Sabbat form. I do not simply refer here to the inspiring fantasies of Jules Michelet, but the important modern work of Silvia Federici. We see the same attacks on freedom of assembly in the destruction of the free festivals, rave culture and the occupy movement. These have been met by the masked Anonymous, the faceless black bloc anarchists, the direct actions of the ELF. These are expressions of popular witchcraft and have been persecuted by the same inquisition that came for us. I do not say that these are examples of operative witchcraft, I say that we, the people who are the Witchcraft, have a sacred duty to join this war. We need to celebrate Grand Sabbats again, infuse them with our witchblood, our cunning. ~ Peter Grey
Woke Culture quotes by Peter Grey
Good form without knowing it is the best form of all. ~ J.M. Barrie
Woke Culture quotes by J.M. Barrie
I've been immersed in manga since I was a kid. I grew up with this culture. So I started to think about how to compare manga to contemporary art. ~ Takashi Murakami
Woke Culture quotes by Takashi Murakami
Since I've never had a dream,' she begins, 'one night I woke and went looking for one. ~ Steve Erickson
Woke Culture quotes by Steve Erickson
The androcentric, patriarchal cultures, whatever you want to call it, are quite new. So, every economic statement should start with reproduction, not production. Every statement for human rights ought to include reproduction as a basic human right, like freedom of speech. ~ Gloria Steinem
Woke Culture quotes by Gloria Steinem
In various fields, such as science, technology, sports, business and the arts, immigrants enrich our culture every single day. ~ Charles B. Rangel
Woke Culture quotes by Charles B. Rangel
Also she went in for culture, which gave her a certain moral authority. It wouldn't now; but people believed, then, that culture could make you better - a better person. They believed it could uplift you, or the women believed it. They hadn't yet seen Hitler at the opera house. ~ Margaret Atwood
Woke Culture quotes by Margaret Atwood
The Norwegian is a sober person. His relationship to God is somewhat like his relationship to the King. He believes that God (and the King) is quite all right - on the condition that He behaves like a proper Norwegian and doesn't believe he is anything special. The Norwegian doesn't say this outright, but he believes that God (and the King), in spite of everything, is no more than human.
The Norwegian wouldn't be surprised if, one day, he should see God (or the King) ahead of him in a bus queue, for ex., or on Karl Johansgate in Oslo. ~ Odd Borretzen
Woke Culture quotes by Odd Borretzen
Friends, if it matters to you, I think it is less important that we agree and more important that we learn to disagree with respect. Let's not expect to agree and get frustrated when it doesn't happen. Let's strive to hear each other out while bringing out the best in ourselves and others. I know it's difficult because I feel it everyday. But I also know it'll be good for us as individuals, for the organization, and the country. I invite you to strive with me and help shift our culture. ~ Annabel Park
Woke Culture quotes by Annabel Park
I think my novel, 'Walden Two,' has made people stop and look at the culture they have inherited and wonder if it is the last word or whether it can be changed. ~ B.F. Skinner
Woke Culture quotes by B.F. Skinner
We are not engaged in domestic politics, in church building or in social uplift work, but we are engaged in nation building. ~ Marcus Garvey
Woke Culture quotes by Marcus Garvey
More than a mere alternative strategy, regenerative agriculture represents a fundamental shift in our culture's relationship to nature. ~ Charles Eisenstein
Woke Culture quotes by Charles Eisenstein
Human nature is deeper and broader than the artificial contrivance of any existing culture. ~ Edward O. Wilson
Woke Culture quotes by Edward O. Wilson
I can't say I was much of a gamer growing up or that I am now, but I'm certainly part of that culture or it's part of, you know, the sort of time that I grew up in. ~ Mary Elizabeth Winstead
Woke Culture quotes by Mary Elizabeth Winstead
Does our culture have a need for violence? I don't know. I guess it's a personal thing. ~ Lena Headey
Woke Culture quotes by Lena Headey
In American culture you leave home at 18. In the Asian culture, your parents don't really want you to leave home. So my parents just thought I was going to be one of those kids. I was like, "I'm never going to make a living at whatever I do." I just liked pretty things. ~ Jason Wu
Woke Culture quotes by Jason Wu
The value of a business is a function of how well the financial capital and the intellectual capital are managed by the human capital. You'd better get the human capital part right. ~ Dave Bookbinder
Woke Culture quotes by Dave Bookbinder
While her lips talked culture, her heart was planning to invite him to tea ~ E. M. Forster
Woke Culture quotes by E. M. Forster
Sometime in your life, hope that you might see one starved man, the look on his face when the bread finally arrives. Hope that you might have baked it or bought or even kneaded it yourself. For that look on his face, for your meeting his eyes across a piece of bread, you might be willing to lose a lot, or suffer a lot, or die a little, even. ~ Daniel Berrigan
Woke Culture quotes by Daniel Berrigan
Nineteenth-century print culture shared with the Protestantism that sparked it a democratizing impulse rooted in the ideology of the priesthood of all believers. In the vastly expanded world of print this impulse led to what one might call a priesthood of all readers, a situation ripe for religious turmoil rooted in interpretive chaos. ~ Matthew Hedstrom
Woke Culture quotes by Matthew Hedstrom
General jackdaw culture, very little more than a collection of charming miscomprehensions, untargeted enthusiasms, and a general habit of skimming. ~ William Bolitho
Woke Culture quotes by William Bolitho
The weirdest place I ever actually woke up in was a villa on the beach in Mexico. It was burning hot, and there were all these crabs walking around me. But I was feeling good, so I went with the vibe. ~ Nayvadius Cash
Woke Culture quotes by Nayvadius Cash
Caltech is a very adventurous place. Part of the culture is that we tolerate people doing things that seem impossible, and also synthesizing and borrowing ideas across very kooky and unusual boundaries. ~ Colin Camerer
Woke Culture quotes by Colin Camerer
Ruthan Gudd drew off his gambeson and paused to luxuriate in the sudden escape from unbearable heat as his sweat-slicked skin cooled.
'Well,' said Skanarow from her cot, 'that woke me up.'
'My godlike physique?'
'The smell, Ruthan. ~ Steven Erikson
Woke Culture quotes by Steven Erikson
I was so happy every morning when I woke up that I was pissing smiley faces. ~ Nikki Sixx
Woke Culture quotes by Nikki Sixx
I wouldn't characterize it as an 80s nostalgia thing. For me, at least. The Corcoran show was actually almost a reportage. The exhibit was, in many ways, pretty unique. It was one of the first pieces about DC culture that doesn't include some marble building or the Kennedy Center. ~ Ian MacKaye
Woke Culture quotes by Ian MacKaye
Hospitality is a word used to describe a human behavior that has the potential to bring about real-understanding among people who do not share a common faith or culture. ~ Martin E. Marty
Woke Culture quotes by Martin E. Marty
A city built upon mud;
A culture built upon profit;
Free speech nipped in the bud,
The minority always guilty.
Why should I want to go back
To you, Ireland, my Ireland?
...
Her mountains are still blue, her rivers flow
Bubbling over the boulders.
She is both a bore and a bitch;
Better close the horizon,
Send her no more fantasy, no more longings which
Are under a fatal tariff.
For common sense is the vogue
And she gives her children neither sense nor money
Who slouch around the world with a gesture and a brogue
And a faggot of useless memories. ~ Louis MacNeice
