The truth is that The Wild One -- despite an admittedly fictional treatment -- was an inspired piece of film journalism. Instead of institutionalizing common knowledge, in the style of Time, it told a story that was only beginning to happen and which was inevitably influenced by the film. It gave the outlaws a lasting, romance-glazed image of themselves, a coherent reflection that only a very few had been able to find in a mirror, and it quickly became the bike rider's answer to The Sun Also Rises. The image is not valid, but its wide acceptance can hardly be blamed on the movie. The Wild One was careful to distinguish between "good outlaws" and "bad outlaws," but the people who were most influenced chose to identify with Brando instead of Lee Marvin whose role as the villain was a lot more true to life than Brando's portrayal of the confused hero. They saw themselves as modern Robin Hoods ... virile, inarticulate brutes whose good instincts got warped somewhere in the struggle for self-expression and who spent the rest of their violent lives seeking revenge on a world that done them wrong when they were young and defenseless. ~ Hunter S. Thompson
Wild One quotes by Hunter S. Thompson
Eroticism is, above all else, exclusively human: it is sexuality socialized and transfigured by the imagination and the will of human beings. The first thing that distinguishes eroticism from sexuality is the infinite variety of forms in which it manifests itself. eroticism is invention, constant variation, sex is always the same.
In every erotic encounter there is an invisible and ever-active participant: imagination, desire.Eroticism is first and foremost a thirst for otherness.
Many years ago I wrote: love is a sacrifice without virtue. Today I would say: love is a bet, a wild one, placed on freedom. Not my own: the freedom of the other. ~ Octavio Paz
Wild One quotes by Octavio Paz
If 'The Wild One' were filmed today, Marlon Brando and the Black Rebel Motorcycle Club would all have to wear helmets. I used to be afraid that when (Hells) Angels became movie stars and Cal the hero of the book, the bikerider would perish on the coffee tables of America. But now I think that this attention doesn't have the strength of reality of the people it aspires to know, and that as long as Harley-Davidsons are manufactured other bikeriders will appear, riding unknown and beautiful through Chicago, into the streets of Cicero. ~ Danny Lyon
Wild One quotes by Danny Lyon
See I'm the reckless and wild one who saves him from being boring. It's why we're perfect for each other. We balance. - Madame Selena ~ Sherrilyn Kenyon
Wild One quotes by Sherrilyn Kenyon
She is not for you. She is a wild one
wild, without shame. This is not a bride for a rabbi. ~ Bernard Malamud
Wild One quotes by Bernard Malamud
I didn't hear him behind me. I felt him. Electric. Wild. One foot in the swamp. Never going to crawl all the way out.
And I wanted to have sex with whatever he was. Where was I supposed to put that in my head? ~ Karen Marie Moning
Wild One quotes by Karen Marie Moning
The reader cannot even begin to see the sense of a story that may well seem to him a very wild one, until he understands that to this great mystic his religion was not a thing like a theory but a thing like a love-affair. ~ G.K. Chesterton
Wild One quotes by G.K. Chesterton
There's a line in the picture where he (Johnny - The Wild One) snarls, 'Nobody tells me what to do.' That's exactly how I've felt all my life. ~ Marlon Brando
Wild One quotes by Marlon Brando
No, you will never been tamed, you are a monster, the eternal wild one. I often wonder where you came from, only someone with something to hide has such a cloudy beginnings. Who are you? Or more importantly who were you? There is only the odd bits that are known about you and nothing is set in stone. Do you even know the real you behind the charade? The fact that you are aroused by virginity, is a worrying fascination. I would not be surprised if the person who turned you realised what a monster he'd created. They were not called Frankenstein by any chance? Maybe you are a creature of many parts? Did you destroy your creator as well in a fit of rage? Is that why your are always looking for your virgin bride? Only you take beautiful swans and turn them into ugly ducklings. You will never return to that life that you give up. Stop trying to recreate them. ~ Beverley Price
Wild One quotes by Beverley Price
Relax wild one. It's not your job to be everything everyone needs, and you don't have to be impressive to be loved. Stop trying so hard. Just show up… and be real with the world. That is enough. ~ Brooke Hampton
Wild One quotes by Brooke Hampton
Wild Ones Tip #584
To piss off a Wild One, you have to really fuck up. Then learn how to hide. ~ C.M. Owens
Wild One quotes by C.M. Owens
I want to reach out and pull you to me. Who says I should let a wild one go free? ~ George Merrill
Wild One quotes by George Merrill
One's own free and unfettered volition, one's own caprice, however wild, one's own fancy, inflamed sometimes to the point of madness - that is the one best and greatest good, which is never taken into consideration because it cannot fit into any classification and the omission of which sends all systems and theories to the devil. ~ Fyodor Dostoyevsky
Wild One quotes by Fyodor Dostoyevsky
A tame horse contributes much more to life than a wild one. Energy out of control is dangerous; energy under control is powerful. ~ Billy Graham
Wild One quotes by Billy Graham
And the last thing I heard before I floated off was his muttered, love my wild one. ~ Kristen Ashley
Wild One quotes by Kristen Ashley
I am apart of the group of wild ones, us women who speak to the moon.
We crave passion, live with wide open hearts and we wear our hearts on ur sleeves too.
Often told we are too much, but taming our spirit isn't something we'll ever do.
Love us as we are, we create our own rules. ~ Nikki Rowe
Wild One quotes by Nikki Rowe
Follow your heart and take a chance that you'll be wrong. Take a chance that maybe you'll fuck it all up and everyone will say you're crazy. What's the worst that can happen? Face that fear and accept it. Because to silence your heart and forget your dreams is to die while living. LIVE. Don't let the world scare you into being something you're not. Get out there and risk the unusual or you'll have to settle for the ordinary. So, no-one else has done it before? There is no road map for you to follow? Then, you be the first! Pave the way for someone else. Find your courage and follow your heart.
Be brave, wild one, be brave. ~ Brooke Hampton
Wild One quotes by Brooke Hampton
Be patient my little wild one, wondrous things take time. A pearl is hidden before it's refined. A diamond's luster is dull before revealing brilliant magnificent breathtaking shine. ~ Melody Lee
Wild One quotes by Melody Lee
Wild as man was, and disgusting as the more degraded tribes and communities were, the best of them, and all those from which further advance came, were marked by good qualities, or they could never have risen to a higher stage. ~ Henry Adams
Wild One quotes by Henry Adams
Laughter is the Wild Body's song of triumph. ~ Wyndham Lewis
Wild One quotes by Wyndham Lewis
The face in the bed seemed to deepen its expression of wild, but motionless distraction. Mrs Bolton looked at it and was worried. She knew what she was up against: male hysteria. She had not nursed soldiers without learning something about that very unpleasant disease. She ~ D.H. Lawrence
Wild One quotes by D.H. Lawrence
O wild West Wind, thou breath of Autumn's being. Thou, from whose unseen presence the leaves dead Are driven, like ghosts from an enchanter fleeing. ~ Percy Bysshe Shelley
Wild One quotes by Percy Bysshe Shelley
The light of morning decomposes everything. ~ Haruki Murakami
Wild One quotes by Haruki Murakami
I can get on with wild beasts first-rate; but men rile me awfully ... ~ Louisa May Alcott
Wild One quotes by Louisa May Alcott
My tribesmen and I party deep into the night, drinking and dancing and going balls-to-the-wall, slap-yo-grandma buck-ass wild, just as the Chief had instructed. Also, I found out that the term "balls-to-the-wall" is not just a figure of speech here, and the drunken islanders and I spent a good portion of the evening just stumbling around the village, rubbing our nutsacks on various buildings and things ~ Danger Slater
Wild One quotes by Danger Slater
There are many objects of desire, and therefore many desires. Some are born with us, hunger, yearning, and pride of place, and some are the foolishness of the world, such as the desire to eat off silver plates. Desire is a wild horse to be tamed. Virtue is a habit long continued. The taming of desire is like the training of the athlete. Discipline is not the restraint but the use of energy ... When I forbid myself what I may have, no person is going to tempt me with what is truly forbidden. ~ Guy Davenport
Wild One quotes by Guy Davenport
Yeah!" said the Dean, now in a grip of a wild, unwizardly machismo. "We're mean! Yeah! Are we mean?"
The Archchancellor raised his eyebrows, and then turned to the rest of the wizards.
"Are we mean?" he said.
"Er.. I'm feeling reasonably mean," said the Lecturer of Recent Runes.
"I'm definitely very mean, I think," said the Bursar. "It's having no boots that does it," he added.
"I'll be mean if everyone else is," said the Senior Wrangler.
The Archchancellor turned back to the Dean.
"Yes," he said, "it appears that we are all mean."
"Yo!" said the Dean.
"Yo what?" said Ridcully.
"It's not a yo what, it's just a yo," said the Senior Wrangler, behind him. "It's a general street greeting and affirmative with convivial military ingroup and masculine bonding-ritual overtones."
"What? What, like 'jolly good'?" said Ridcully.
"I suppose so..." said the Senior Wrangler, reluctantly. ~ Terry Pratchett
Wild One quotes by Terry Pratchett
But how will you bear an absentminded man who, if he happens to see you, will kill you? That is what tries the nerves, abstraction combined with cruelty. Men have felt it sometimes when they went through wild forests, and felt that the animals there were at once innocent and pitiless. They might ignore or slay. How would you like to pass ten mortal hours in a parlour with an absent-minded tiger? ~ G.K. Chesterton
Wild One quotes by G.K. Chesterton
Silly girl, your different was your beautiful all along. ~ Atticus Poetry
Wild One quotes by Atticus Poetry
Children do live in fantasy and reality; they move back and forth very easily in a way we no longer remember how to do. ~ Maurice Sendak
Wild One quotes by Maurice Sendak
It's 11 am and I'm sitting in a restaurant
3 beers in. Believe me, even I'm surprised
I'm still alive sometimes.
I have been drinking about you for 2 days.
Lately you remind me of a wild thing
chewing through its foot. But you
are already free and I don't know what to do
except trace the rough line of your jaw
and try not to place blame.
Here is the truth: It is hard to be in love
with someone who is in love someone else.
I don't know how to turn that into poetry. ~ Clementine Von Radics
Wild One quotes by Clementine Von Radics
Nothing on the horizon; nothing in heaven.

He implores the expanse, the waves, the seaweed, the reef; they are deaf. He beseeches the tempest; the imperturbable tempest obeys only the infinite.

Around him darkness, fog, solitude, the stormy and non- sentient tumult, the undefined curling of those wild waters. In him horror and fatigue. Beneath him the depths. Not a point of support. He thinks of the gloomy adventures of the corpse in the limitless shadow. The bottomless cold paralyzes him. His hands contract convulsively; they close, and grasp nothingness. Winds, clouds, whirlwinds, gusts, useless stars! What is to be done? The desperate man gives up; he is weary, he chooses the alternative of death; he resists not; he lets himself go; he abandons his grip; and then he tosses forevermore in the lugubrious dreary depths of engulfment.

Oh, implacable march of human societies! Oh, losses of men and of souls on the way! Ocean into which falls all that the law lets slip! Disastrous absence of help! Oh, moral death!

The sea is the inexorable social night into which the penal laws fling their condemned. The sea is the immensity of wretchedness.

The soul, going down stream in this gulf, may become a corpse. Who shall resuscitate it? ~ Victor Hugo
Wild One quotes by Victor Hugo
When the railroad trains moaned, and river-winds blew, bringing echoes through the vale, it was as if a wild hum of voices, the dear voices of everybody he had known, were crying: "Peter, Peter! Where are you going, Peter?" And a big soft gust of rain came down.
He put up the collar of his jacket, and bowed his head, and hurried along. ~ Jack Kerouac
Wild One quotes by Jack Kerouac
My favorite animal to hunt is probably elk. There's nothing like the sound of a bugling bull splitting the cold air at first light. And that smell is unmistakable. Once you experience their musk in the wild there's no going back! A close second would be a varmint hunt. ~ Chris Pratt
Wild One quotes by Chris Pratt
To save wildlife and wild places the traction has to come not from the regurgitation of bad-news data but from the poets, prophets, preachers, professors, and presidents who have always dared to inspire. ~ J. Drew Lanham
Wild One quotes by J. Drew Lanham
If your day is full of little mean, dark thoughts, is it any wonder you feel crabby? Maybe it's because you let your mind run wild like a dog putting its nose into garbage everywhere. ~ Barbara De Angelis
Wild One quotes by Barbara De Angelis
The night is perfect in a wild way, almost terrifyingly beautiful. ~ Patrick Rothfuss
Wild One quotes by Patrick Rothfuss
Wilds whisper, yet I long for their roar. ~ Gin Getz
Wild One quotes by Gin Getz
There have been as many varieties of socialists as there are wild birds that fly in the woods and sometimes go up and on through the clouds. ~ Carl Sandburg
Wild One quotes by Carl Sandburg
The TED Fellowship exposed me to a set of youngsters who had wilder ideas than I did - and almost all of them were pursuing their wild and crazy ideas without fear of failure. ~ Shaffi Mather
Wild One quotes by Shaffi Mather
Wild winds never last all morning
and fierce rains never last all day. ~ Lao-Tzu
Wild One quotes by Lao-Tzu
The feeling was wild and sort of unpredictable, like a good summer storm. ~ Ashley Herring Blake
Wild One quotes by Ashley Herring Blake
The moonless sky was a rich wild blackness of stars. ~ Louise Erdrich
Wild One quotes by Louise Erdrich
You are not a failure.
And you are not alone.
This I know to be true.

Read these lines as many times as you need to in order to start believing. ~ Jeanette LeBlanc
Wild One quotes by Jeanette LeBlanc
In this space,

We do raw
We do loud hearts
& truthful art

We do open arms
& unfettered forgiveness

We do real
We do vulnerable
We do wild

In this space,
We do love

In all the shapes
& forms
That we come in

We do love ~ Bryonie Wise
Wild One quotes by Bryonie Wise
These were wild aromas, far from the schoolroom, church building, or city. Like a secret handshake, these smells meant you were among a higher class. Men who were the best men Wilder knew. The kind of man he wanted, and intended, to be. ~ S.J. Dahlstrom
Wild One quotes by S.J. Dahlstrom
Do you know what passion is?"
I blink, confused.
"Most people think it only means desire. Arousal. Wild abandon. But that's not all. The word derives from the Latin. It means suffering. Submission. Pain and pleasure, Nikki. Passion. ~ J. Kenner
Wild One quotes by J. Kenner
Fear is feeling, is not what do you think. That feeling keeps your body in every way to 100% and makes you react like a wild animal. It gives you that extra than you have in a normal ~ Dani Pedrosa
Wild One quotes by Dani Pedrosa
I wish for my child to have a mind as stark and wild as the winter, a spirit as clear and fine as my window, and a heart as red and open as my wounded hand. ~ Catherynne M Valente
Wild One quotes by Catherynne M Valente
Don't blame my heart's appetite for how it chooses to feast, for my heart is a wild lover, an all-consuming beast. ~ Melody Lee
Wild One quotes by Melody Lee
A truly good book is something as natural, and as unexpectedly and unaccountably fair and perfect, as a wild-flower discovered on the prairies of the West or in the jungles of the East. Genius is a light which makes the darkness visible, like the lightning's flash, which perchance shatters the temple of knowledge itself
and not a taper lighted at the hearthstone of the race, which pales before the light of common day. ~ Henry David Thoreau
Wild One quotes by Henry David Thoreau
You have the best wild west rancher cowboy name in history ~ Kristen Ashley
Wild One quotes by Kristen Ashley
There was a time when our minds were always on a roll. We used boxes and sticks to become astronauts and artists. We created fantasy characters and outrageous worlds. We drew whimsical pictures and cooked up wild ideas. We were complete originals. ~ Tom Asacker
Wild One quotes by Tom Asacker
Well, I have many models of Prius that got recalled, but I have a new model that didn't get recalled. This new model has an accelerator that goes wild, but only under certain conditions of cruise control. And I can repeat it over and over and over again
safely. ~ Steve Wozniak
Wild One quotes by Steve Wozniak
It comes the very moment you wake up each morning. All your wishes and hopes for the day rush at you like wild animals. And the first job each morning consists simply in shoving them all back; in listening to that other voice, taking that other point of view, letting that other larger, stronger, quieter life come flowing in. And so on, all day. Standing back from all your natural fussings and frettings; coming in out of the wind. ~ C.S. Lewis
Wild One quotes by C.S. Lewis
Death is only a launching into the region of the strange Untried; it is but the first salutation to the possibilities of the immense Remote, the Wild, the Watery, the Unshored. ~ Herman Melville
Wild One quotes by Herman Melville
My mother and dad were big animal lovers, too. I just don't know how I would have lived without animals around me. I'm fascinated by them - both domestic pets and the wild community. They just are the most interesting things in the world to me, and it's made such a difference in my lifetime. ~ Betty White
Wild One quotes by Betty White
My message is use grass-fed beef, use heirloom pork varieties, use organic chickens, wait until wild salmon or wild seafood are in season, smoke organic vegetables. ~ Steven Raichlen
Wild One quotes by Steven Raichlen
The air was cool and fresh and smelled of the kelp and salt that streamed in off the bay at the full of the tide. The sun was high in the tender vault of the sky, and the thunderheads that would sweep in late in the day were still only white marble puffs at the margins of the sky, solid and silver-lined. There was a blue clarity about the horizon and the distant hills that spoke of a weather change but not for another day or two. Along the meadows' edges, as we drove past, I saw pink clover and purple lupine, hawkweed and wild daylilies. Brilliant pink wild azaleas, called lambkill here, flickered like wildfire in the birch groves. Daisies, buttercups, wild columbine, and the purple flags of wild iris starred the roadside. Behind them all was the eternal dark of the pines and firs and spruce thickets and, between those, the glittering indigo of the bay. ~ Anne Rivers Siddons
Wild One quotes by Anne Rivers Siddons
Tis best to weight the enemy more mighty than he seems."
Or she, as was this particular case. ~ Kerrigan Byrne
Wild One quotes by Kerrigan Byrne
The Fomorians skittered backward, away from me, looking justifiably confused. I mean, really, how many human women actually run to them? And I was a human woman covered in swamp yuck, with wild red hair sticking out in matted hunks and arms flailing like a demented Bride of Frankenstein. I'd run from me. ~ P.C. Cast
Wild One quotes by P.C. Cast
The wild life of today is not ours to do with as we please. The original stock was given to us in trust for the benefit both of the present and the future. We must render an accounting of this trust to those who come after us. ~ Theodore Roosevelt
Wild One quotes by Theodore Roosevelt
It's the way that life asserts itself, no matter what the circumstances. Of course it must be a miserable existence. How could it not be? Yet those little girls manage to live; to breathe; to enjoy themselves. They laugh and they are full of curiosity and tenderness. They adjust, I believe that's the word. They adjust and they reach for the stars in their own way. I tell you it's wondrous to me. They make me think of the wild flowers that grow in the cracks of pavement, just pushing up into the sun, no matter how many feet crush them down. ~ Anne Rice
Wild One quotes by Anne Rice
No use lamenting over it! I was now living in a blaze of unsatisfied desire, of suspenseful expectancy, that often made me wild and crazy. I often saw the image of my dream beloved before me with more than lifelike clarity, much more clearly than my own hand; I spoke to it, wept before it, cursed it. I called it mother and knelt before it in tears; I called it beloved and sensed its ripe, all-fulfilling kiss; I called it devil and whore, vampire and murderess. It lured me into the tenderest dreams of love and into acts of dissolute shamelessness; nothing was too good and precious for it, nothing too bad and vile. ~ Hermann Hesse
Wild One quotes by Hermann Hesse
Religion must always be a crab fruit; it cannot be grafted, and keep its wild beauty. ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson
