The world I live in is composing a magnum opus to the heart-stopping, outrageously unbelievable unconditional love and acceptance of God that crushes and demolishes the vestiges of self-righteous "us and them." It's ~ Wendy Vanderwal-Gritter
Crushes quotes by Wendy Vanderwal-Gritter
Shame breeds fear. It crushes our tolerance for vulnerability, thereby killing engagement, innovation, creativity, productivity, and trust. ~ Brene Brown
Crushes quotes by Brene Brown
Ordinary father-daughter love had a charge to it that generally was both permitted and indulged. There was just something so beautiful about the big father complementing the tiny girl. Bigness and tininess together at last – yet the bigness would never hurt the tininess! It respected it. In a world in which big always crushes tiny, you wanted to cry at the beauty of big being kind of and worshipful of and being humbled by tiny. You couldn't help but think of your own father as you saw your little girl with hers. ~ Meg Wolitzer
Crushes quotes by Meg Wolitzer
I think audiences, producers and directors included, develop crushes on actors (actresses in particular) and then lose interest and move on to the next one. ~ Julia Stiles
Crushes quotes by Julia Stiles
I had a crush, but I'm not sure I actually had a crush on Sam Hunt. He was the face attached to it, but I don't really know much about him at all. I thought he played basketball, but I think it may have actually been volleyball. No matter. I took what I knew, and I filled in the details to my liking. It was fun. And also ridiculous. When you have a crush on a half-real, half-imaginary boy, you will always be disappointed. ~ Emily P. Freeman
Crushes quotes by Emily P. Freeman
Just...for the first time, I want so bad for someone to like me back. Don't get me wrong, I've had crushes before, guys I'd never meet or ones I knew would never look at me like that. Sometimes it's safer to pin your dreams on somebody who's never going to see you. While it's sad, it's also safe. Because there's no chance he'll ever break your heart for real. ~ Ann Aguirre
Crushes quotes by Ann Aguirre
Mine, said the stone,
mine is the hour.
I crush the scissors,
such is my power.
Stronger than wishes,
my power, alone.

Mine, said the paper,
mine are the words
that smother the stone
with imagined birds,
reams of them, flown
from the mind of the shaper.

Mine, said the scissors,
mine all the knives
gashing through paper's
ethereal lives;
nothing's so proper
as tattering wishes.

As stone crushes scissors,
as paper snuffs stone
and scissors cut paper,
all end alone.
So heap up your paper
and scissor your wishes
and uproot the stone
from the top of the hill.
They all end alone
as you will, you will. ~ David Mason
Crushes quotes by David Mason
But the thing which had made him fall for her, fall properly, was the way she seemed so calm and so quiet and so sad. Surrounded by noisy bankers showing off, and their variously pushy or beady or anxious or competitive wives, she seemed to be from somewhere else; a place where people carried their own burdens; a grander and realer and more honourable place. Roger didn't know that Matya spent a lot of that evening thinking about home, but he could tell that she was thinking about something, and it was that other thing which, for him, did it. ~ John Lanchester
Crushes quotes by John Lanchester
In the night, your loneliness crushes you, as if the sky itself has swooped down to smother you in its cold arms. ~ Sabaa Tahir
Crushes quotes by Sabaa Tahir
Is constructive criticism really constructive? Not really. You can't make a child better by pointing out what you think is wrong with him or her. Criticism either crushes spirit or elicits defensiveness. Constructive criticism is an interesting combination of words. "Construct" means "to build." "Criticism" means "to tear down" It creates defiance and anger as well. ~ H. Norman Wright
Crushes quotes by H. Norman Wright
When business accepts help from the government, it can be like going to bed with a hippopotamus. It's nice and warm for the moment, but then your bedmate rolls over and crushes you. ~ Donald Rumsfeld
Crushes quotes by Donald Rumsfeld
I still don't have any crushes on actresses or models. It's always been one of those things with girlfriends. They say, "Who's on your list?" What do you call it, the Get Out of Jail Free card? ~ Henry Cavill
Crushes quotes by Henry Cavill
Whatever crushes individuality is despotism. ~ John Stuart Mill
Crushes quotes by John Stuart Mill
Dear Teenage Self,

That guy you're crazy about,
Will ask you out
On a date
In about ten years, so don't fret
You'll get there yet.
But fate is cruel
On that day,
That feeling will have gone away. ~ Joyce Rachelle
Crushes quotes by Joyce Rachelle
New York City is the most fatally fascinating thing in America. She sits like a great witch at the gate of the country, showing her alluring white face, and hiding her crooked hands and feet under the folds of her wide garments,
constantly enticing thousands from far within, and tempting those who come from across the seas to go no farther. And all these become the victims of her caprice. Some she at once crushes beneath her cruel feet; others she condemns to a fate like that of galley slaves; a few she favors and fondles, riding them high on the bubbles of fortune; then with a sudden breath she blows the bubbles out and laughs mockingly as she watches them fall. ~ James Weldon Johnson
Crushes quotes by James Weldon Johnson
Strange, when one thinks of all the other boys, infinite experimental kisses, test tube infatuations, crushes, pseudo-loves.
All through this physical separation, through the testing and the trying of the others, there has been this peculiar rapport, comradeship, of us two so alike, so similar, but for science-boy and humanities-girl - the introspection, self examination, biannual deep summarizing conversations, and then the platonic parting. ~ Sylvia Plath
Crushes quotes by Sylvia Plath
I've had so many crushes on gay boys. ~ Alicia Silverstone
Crushes quotes by Alicia Silverstone
Crushes are so awful. I wonder if they suck worse for the crush-er or the crush-ee. I consider my three years of watching Josh from afar. Yeah, definitely the crush-er. ~ Stephanie Perkins
Crushes quotes by Stephanie Perkins
The human heart has a tiresome tendency to label as fate only what crushes it. But happiness likewise, in its way, is without reason, since it is inevitable. ~ Albert Camus
Crushes quotes by Albert Camus
I think it's better if blokes can admit that they can have crushes on other blokes. I've probably had crushes but never really sexual crushes on men. ~ Graham Coxon
Crushes quotes by Graham Coxon
crushes the adventurous, the brave, the sensitive, and encourages the timid, the opportunist and time-serving, the sneak and the bully. It surrounds itself with ~ Shashi Tharoor
Crushes quotes by Shashi Tharoor
Brute force crushes many plants. Yet the plants rise again. The Pyramids will not last a moment compared with the daisy. And before Buddha or Jesus spoke the nightingale sang, and long after the words of Jesus and Buddha are gone into oblivion the nightingale still will sing. Because it is neither preaching nor commanding nor urging. It is just singing. And in the beginning it was not a Word, but a chirrup. ~ D.H. Lawrence
Crushes quotes by D.H. Lawrence
It is horrible! It is not the suffering and the death of the animals that is horrible, but the fact that the man without any need for so doing crushes his lofty feeling of sympathy and mercy for living creatures and does violence to himself that he may be cruel. The first element of moral life is abstinence. ~ Leo Tolstoy
Crushes quotes by Leo Tolstoy
I look at an ant and I see myself: a native South African, endowed by nature with a strength much greater than my size so I might cope with the weight of a racism that crushes my spirit. ~ Miriam Makeba
Crushes quotes by Miriam Makeba
Repression is a seamless garment; a society which is authoritarian in its social and sexual codes, which crushes its women beneath the intolerable burdens of honour and propriety, breeds repressions of other kinds as well. ~ Salman Rushdie
Crushes quotes by Salman Rushdie
I have decided that the hot, burning, inescapable pain is the worst. This pain comes when you finally begin to relax, you finally breathe, thinking that some issue is yesterday's problem, when in fact it's today's problem, tomorrow's problem, and the problem of every day after that. This pain comes when you pour everything into something, into someone, and they betray you so completely - so seemingly on a whim - that the pain crushes you and you feel as if you're barely breathing, barely holding on to that small fraction of whatever is left inside of you begging you to go on, to not give up.
-Tessa ~ Anna Todd
Crushes quotes by Anna Todd
Roaring like a tiger turns some children into pianists who debut at Carnegie Hall but only crushes others. Coddling gives some the excuse to fail and others the chance to succeed. ~ Ayelet Waldman
Crushes quotes by Ayelet Waldman
Crushes thrive in small spaces. Humans must be programmed to respond positively when faced with a small sampling of other humans in, say, caves. You're stuck in a cave with three other people - all mankind, presumably, was hidden away in such tiny groups during the winters until the thaw - and so, in order for the species to thrive, you must be biologically compelled to fuck at least one person in your cave, despite the fact that, when surrounded by a plenitude of Neanderthals at the Neanderthal summer barbecue, none of them struck your fancy. Without the element of choice, and in conjunction with captivity, you find love, or at least you find lust. ~ Heidi Julavits
Crushes quotes by Heidi Julavits
I did not write love songs as a sixteen-year-old. I did not write about crushes or about mean girls. I wrote about my life - about the injustices and inequities and the search for answers and self-responsibility. ~ Jewel
Crushes quotes by Jewel
For years, he's been listening to her complain about being ignored by Justin and assuring it her it was simply a matter of time until his friend saw the light. After all, if Henry was friends with Neerja and Henry was friends with Justin then, logically, Justin would be friends with Neerja. According to Henry, their eventual relationship was dictated by the transitive property.

But Neerja didn't want to be 'just friends' with Justin, and she was tired of waiting for the transitive property to jump-start her love life. ~ Sarah Strohmeyer
Crushes quotes by Sarah Strohmeyer
Whether you're married or single, figure out what fuels your passions and what crushes your soul. Figure out what you're good at and what you're not so good at. Keep it simple. Do more of what you're good at and less of everything else. Because ~ Maria Goff
Crushes quotes by Maria Goff
Families cannot prosper and keep America strong if government becomes a Goliath that preys upon their wealth, usurps their rights, and crushes their spirit. ~ Ronald Reagan
Crushes quotes by Ronald Reagan
No matter how fierce the enemy seems
when fear cripples us, anger enrages us, or selfishness possesses us; when adversity crushes us, opposition hounds us, or temptation plagues us
God is greater. ~ Katy Kauffman
Crushes quotes by Katy Kauffman
You get crushes on people. You have to see them every day in that week. They're a fantastic person, and it could be a man or a woman. ~ Jennifer Saunders
Crushes quotes by Jennifer Saunders
That's wrong," she declared. "Everyone must have one thing that they can excel at. It's just a matter of drawing it out, isn't it? But school doesn't know how to draw it out. It crushes the gift. It's no wonder most people never get to be what they want to be. They just get ground down. ~ Haruki Murakami
Crushes quotes by Haruki Murakami
People have crushes on priests all the time, you know. It's exciting to have to deal with God as a rival. ~ Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie
Crushes quotes by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie
Crushes weren't a precursor to love, they were a precursor to having your heart chewed up like Shark Week. ~ Koren Zailckas
Crushes quotes by Koren Zailckas
Being in love is one of the most powerful experiences anyone can have. I think that's why we have crushes when we're younger. Maybe it's how we get ready for real love. ~ Lauren Tarshis
Crushes quotes by Lauren Tarshis
There are no words big enough to describe grief. It's an incredibly lonely, empty place, a large hole that swallows your soul and threatens to destroy it. It's a dark place with no light that blinds you, deafens you, and crushes your spirit. It's a place full of memories you're afraid to lose.
I was in that place. No amount of tears washed away the loneliness. No amount of screams chased it away. There were simply memories, an avalanche of memories that I desperately needed to hold onto.
There was so much that death didn't prepare me for. It didn't prepare me for the storm that would break my will. ~Hawthorn ~ R.K. Ryals
Crushes quotes by R.K. Ryals
We feel our shell keeps us safe, but it crushes us and others, and keeps out light and sun. ~ Taisen Deshimaru
Crushes quotes by Taisen Deshimaru
God never crushes a man's will into surrender, He never beseeches him, He waits until the man yields up his will to Him. ~ Oswald Chambers
Crushes quotes by Oswald Chambers
You're mine, now." His mouth crushes mine in a carnal, brutal kiss. "This is where it starts. You and me … You hear me? No more running. ~ Julie Johnson
Crushes quotes by Julie Johnson
Yesterday I visited the British Museum; an exceedingly tiresome affair. It quite crushes a person to see so much at once; and I wandered from hall to hall with a weary and heavy heart. The present is burdened too much with the past. ~ Nathaniel Hawthorne
Crushes quotes by Nathaniel Hawthorne
If the state is strong, it crushes us. If it is weak, we perish. ~ Paul Valery
Crushes quotes by Paul Valery
If he is a half-decent human being, he will find himself the object of crushes. If he is a cocky bastard, even more so. ~ Piper Kerman
Crushes quotes by Piper Kerman
I thought how utterly we have forsaken the Earth, in the sense of excluding it from our thoughts. There are but few who consider its physical hugeness, its rough enormity. It is still a disparate monstrosity, full of solitudes, barrens, wilds. It still dwarfs, terrifies, crushes. The rivers still roar, the mountains still crash, the winds still shatter. Man is an affair of cities. His gardens, orchards and fields are mere scrapings. Somehow, however, he has managed to shut out the face of the giant from his windows. But the giant is there, nevertheless. ~ Wallace Stevens
Crushes quotes by Wallace Stevens
When men shake hands with time, time crushes
Them like tumblers; little pieces of glass. ~ Abū Al-ʿAlāʾ Al-Maʿarrī
Crushes quotes by Abū Al-ʿAlāʾ Al-Maʿarrī
Greta smiled suddenly, and he had to blink. It was a little like watching a small and self-contained sunrise. 'Thank you,' she said. 'I'm...very glad you're here.'

Just for a moment, Varney thought that *he* was, too. For a moment. ~ Vivian Shaw
Crushes quotes by Vivian Shaw
Which of you is without sin? Let him cast the first stone." The people are abashed, and they forget their unity of purpose in the memory of their own individual sins. Someday, they think, I may be like this woman, and I'll hope for forgiveness and another chance. I should treat her the way I wish to be treated. As they open their hands and let the stones fall to the ground, the rabbi picks up one of the fallen stones, lifts it high over the woman's head, and throws it straight down with all his might. It crushes her skull and dashes her brains onto the cobblestones. "Nor am I without sin," he says to the people. "But if we allow only perfect people to enforce the law, the law will soon be dead, and our city with it. ~ Orson Scott Card
Crushes quotes by Orson Scott Card
My mom believed that you make your own luck. Over the stove she had hung these old, maroon painted letters that spell out, "MANIFEST." The idea being if you thought and dreamed about the way you wanted your life to be
if you just envisioned it long enough, it would come into being.
But as hard as I had manifested Astrid Heyman with her hand in mine, her blue eyes gazing into mine, her lips whispering something wild and funny and outrageous in my ear, she had remained totally unaware of my existence. Truly, to even dream of dreaming about Astrid, for a guy like me, in my relatively low position on the social ladder of Cheyenne Mountain High, was idiotic. And with her a senior and me a junior? Forget it.
Astrid was just lit up with beauty: shining blonde ringlets, June sky blue eyes, slightly furrowed brow, always biting back a smile, champion diver on the swim team. Olympic level.
Hell, Astrid was Olympic level in every possible way. ~ Emmy Laybourne
Crushes quotes by Emmy Laybourne
Some people can do their homework. Some people get to have crushes on boys. Some people have other things they've got to do. ~ Ann Braden
Crushes quotes by Ann Braden
Life Would've Been Easier If The People Had Crushes On Jesus Christ.. Not Other People. ~ Cyc Jouzy
Crushes quotes by Cyc Jouzy
I make my way to her table, seeing her eyes growing wider as I do. Ten or so other girls probably just developed instantaneous crushes on me, because they see Carmel likes me. Or so the sociologist in my brain says. ~ Kendare Blake
Crushes quotes by Kendare Blake
Do you ever think about being with someone but realize it's impossible and then get really sad so you bake a pie instead. ~ Ngozi Ukazu
Crushes quotes by Ngozi Ukazu
Forgiveness is the scent that the rose leaves on
the heel that crushes it. ~ John Arnott
Crushes quotes by John Arnott
Teenage crush is like flu. If you find a remedy for it, it lasts for a couple of days. If you don't, it still lasts for a couple of days. ~ Raheel Farooq
Crushes quotes by Raheel Farooq
True love is like a stalactite meeting a stalagmite. Complete opposites, but with time, calcium, and a healthy drip system, they meet in the middle. Or one crushes the other. It really depends. ~ Betsy Schow
Crushes quotes by Betsy Schow
It doesn't matter if it's the real world or fictional," I insisted. "Crushes are the best part of liking someone, and they are completely safe. You get all the benefits of fantasising about someone, but none of the he-loves-me-he-loves-me-not drama. It's all the good parts with none of the parts that make you lie awake at night all angsty. ~ Liz Czukas
Crushes quotes by Liz Czukas
Every hero is a Samson. The strong man succumbs to the intrigues of the weak and the many; and if in the end he loses all patience he crushes both them and himself. ~ Arthur Schopenhauer
Crushes quotes by Arthur Schopenhauer
The visceral nature of hard rock music, the fact that you can have this sledge hammering sound - and that you can hook a lyric up and a feeling up to something and make the lyric jump into this machine that crushes. That has always been really attractive to me, that kind of power. ~ Henry Rollins
Crushes quotes by Henry Rollins
True, it is evil that a single man should crush the herd, but see not there the worse form of slavery, which is when the herd crushes out the man. ~ Antoine De Saint Exupery
Crushes quotes by Antoine De Saint Exupery
Time catches up with kingdoms and crushes them, gets its teeth into doctrines and rends them; time reveals the foundations on which any kingdom rests, and eats at those foundations, and it destroys doctrines by proving them to be untrue. ~ James Baldwin
Crushes quotes by James Baldwin
Don't hold back on my account," [Graham] said. "I'm not a complete moron. You're not as slick as you think--all those double entendres. Scampering around the roof in the middle of the night. ~ Ingrid Paulson
Crushes quotes by Ingrid Paulson
I'm scared all the time," he admitted, bracing his hands on the counter. "I know he's powerful, I've seen him in battle, and yet the fear crushes me."
"Of course it does." Elena let her wing overlap his. "That's what it means to love someone. ~ Nalini Singh
Crushes quotes by Nalini Singh
Grace and truth are distinct and yet they are not mutually exclusive. But when people focus on one without the other, they usually fall into two extremes. They either embrace a gospel of "grace without truth" or a gospel of "truth without grace".
Grace without truth is not really grace. Truth without grace is not really truth. Grace without truth pampers. Truth without grace hammers.
Grace without truth is love without correction. Truth without grace is correction without love. Grace without truth is mercy without justice. Truth without grace is justice without mercy.
Grace without truth is soft and spoils people. Truth without grace is harsh and crushes people. Grace without truth is freedom without responsibility. Truth without grace is responsibility without freedom.
Either extremes are neither of Christ or the gospel. ~ Richard PW Tan
Crushes quotes by Richard PW Tan
Crushes are stressful. Dating is disappointing. Every relationship, you either break up or get married & then divorced. Pies can't hurt you. ~ Ngozi Ukazu
Crushes quotes by Ngozi Ukazu
I have crushes on women all the time. ~ Adam Lambert
Crushes quotes by Adam Lambert
You kneel beside her, breathing the familiar smell of Sasha's sleep, whispering into her ear some mix of I'm sorry and I will never leave you, I'll be curled around your heart for the rest of your life, until the water pressing my shoulders and chest crushes me awake and I hear Sasha screaming into my face: Fight! Fight! Fight! ~ Jennifer Egan
Crushes quotes by Jennifer Egan
But there's a difference between an old-fashioned financial panic and what had happened on Wall Street in 2008. In an old-fashioned panic, perception creates its own reality: Someone shouts "Fire!" in a crowded theater and the audience crushes each other to death in its rush for the exits. On Wall Street in 2008 the reality finally overwhelmed perceptions: A crowded theater burned down with a lot of people still in their seats. Every major firm on Wall Street was either bankrupt or fatally intertwined with a bankrupt system. The problem wasn't that Lehman Brothers had been allowed to fail. The problem was that Lehman Brothers had been allowed to succeed. This ~ Michael Lewis
Crushes quotes by Michael Lewis
Be like the flower that gives its fragrance to even the hand that crushes it. ~ Ali Ibn Abi Talib
Crushes quotes by Ali Ibn Abi Talib
Do you think of me
Like i think of you
Just one time
And my imagination
Makes it every time. ~ Suyasha Subedi
Crushes quotes by Suyasha Subedi
With crushes, longer doesn't necessarily mean better. ~ Fuyumi Soryo
Crushes quotes by Fuyumi Soryo
The two things I look for in a guy is how tall he is and whether or not he's a vampire. Pretty much all my crushes have been one or the other. One guy, actually, was both big and a vampire, but he turned out to be gay. ~ The Harvard Lampoon
Crushes quotes by The Harvard Lampoon
The sweet creature! She would look it up in her big Dante when she got home. What a woman! ~ Samuel Beckett
Crushes quotes by Samuel Beckett
A beautiful girlfriend is worth two more. ~ Raheel Farooq
Crushes quotes by Raheel Farooq
Force is as pitiless to the man who possesses it as it is to its victims - the second it crushes, the first it intoxicates. ~ Paul Hoffman
Crushes quotes by Paul Hoffman
I don't think I've ever been in love, I'm sure I will be some day. I've had enormous crushes, although I've never been into the Brad Pitt thing. ~ Natalie Portman
Crushes quotes by Natalie Portman
The sea, the majestic sea, breaks everything, crushes everything, cleans everything, takes everything ... from me ~ Corinne Bailey Rae
Crushes quotes by Corinne Bailey Rae
In the end, the Wheel crushes us all. ~ Margaret Stohl
Crushes quotes by Margaret Stohl
Just because something is addictive doesn't mean that you will get addicted to it. But ... if your stomach ties up in knots while you count the seconds waiting for a phone call from that special someone ... if you hear a loud buzzing in your ears when you see a certain person's car (or one just like it) ... if your eyes burn when you hear a random love song or see a couple holding hands ... if you suffer the twin agonies of craving for and withdrawing from a series of unrequited crushes or toxic relationships ... if you always feel like you're clutching at someone's ankle and dragged across the floor as they try to leave the room ... welcome to the club. ~ Ethlie Ann Vare
Crushes quotes by Ethlie Ann Vare
How can I deal with annoying persons in a way that utterly crushes them without tarnishing my carefully developed reputation or extending my already lengthy prison sentence? ~ A.C. Kemp
Crushes quotes by A.C. Kemp
The market economy is deeply congruent with the values set out in the Hebrew Bible. Material prosperity is a divine blessing. Poverty crushes the spirit as well as the body, and its alleviation is a sacred task. Work is a noble calling. ~ Jonathan Sacks
Crushes quotes by Jonathan Sacks
... there is also an underlying, less specific fear - what some might call an ontological or existential anxiety - that shrouds our days and seeps into our dreams. We feel empty and seek meaning. We feel empty and seek meaning. We yearn and know not what we yearn for. There is a black hole at the center of our understanding that engulfs and crushes our every attempt to explore it. Something is missing. ~ Jesse Browner
Crushes quotes by Jesse Browner
An unarticulated crush is very different from an unrequited one, because at least with an unrequited crush you know what the hell you're doing, even if the other person isn't doing it back. An unarticulated crush is harder to grapple with, because it's a crush that you haven't even admitted to yourself. The romantic forces are all there
you want to see him, you always notice him, you treat every word from him as if it weighs more than anyone else's. But you don't know why. You don't know that you're doing it. You'd follow him to the end of the earth without ever admitting that your feet were moving. ~ David Levithan
Crushes quotes by David Levithan
Time seems so inconceivably vast, until it crushes, pressing you paper-thin between one broken-heartbeat passed, and the laughter yet to come. ~ Elyse Draper
Crushes quotes by Elyse Draper
I have crushes on women all the time. I don't have intimate relationships with them, but I find women beautiful. ~ Adam Lambert
Crushes quotes by Adam Lambert
If you have to ask someone to change, to tell you they love you, to bring wine to dinner, to call you when they land, you can't afford to be with them. It's not worth the price, even though, just like the Tiffany catalog, no one tells you what the price is. You set it yourself, and if you're lucky it's reasonable. You have a sense of when you're about to go bankrupt. Your own sense of self-worth takes the wheel and says, Enough of this shit. Stop making excuses. No one's that busy at work. No one's allergic to whipped cream. There are too cell phones in Sweden. But most people don't get lucky. They get human. They get crushes. This means you irrationally mortgage what little logic you own to pay for this one thing. This relationship is an impulse buy, and you'll figure out if it's worth it later. ~ Sloane Crosley
Crushes quotes by Sloane Crosley
Service can have no meaning unless one takes pleasure in it. When it is done for show or for fear of public opinion, it stunts the man and crushes his spirit. Service which is rendered without joy helps neither the servant nor the served. ~ Mahatma Gandhi
Crushes quotes by Mahatma Gandhi
Debt never sleeps nor sickens nor dies; it never goes to the hospital; it works on Sundays and holidays; it never takes a vacation ... it is never laid off work ... it buys no food; it wears no clothes; it is unhoused ... it has neither weddings nor births nor deaths; it has no love, no sympathy; it is as hard and soulless as a granite cliff. Once in debt, it is your companion every minute of the day and night; you cannot shun it or slip away from it; you cannot dismiss it ... and whenever you get in its way or cross its course or fail to meet its demands, it crushes you. ~ J. Reuben Clark
Crushes quotes by J. Reuben Clark
Depression is like a heaviness that you can't ever escape. It crushes down on you, making even the smallest things like tying your shoes or chewing on toast seem like a twenty-mile hike uphill. Depression is a part of you; it's in your bones and your blood. ~ Jasmine Warga
Crushes quotes by Jasmine Warga
The pain is unrelenting, and what makes the condition intolerable is the foreknowledge that no remedy will come- not in a day, an hour, a month, or a minute. If there is mild relief, one knows that it is only temporary; more pain will follow. It is hopelessness even more than pain that crushes the soul. So the decision-making of daily life involves not, as in normal affairs, shifting from one annoying situation to another less annoying- or from discomfort to relative comfort, or from boredom to activity- but moving from pain to pain. One does not abandon, even briefly, one's bed of nails, but is attached to it wherever one goes. ~ William Styron
Crushes quotes by William Styron
Sorrow is a stone that crushes a single bearer to the ground, while two are able to carry it with ease. ~ Philip James Bailey
Crushes quotes by Philip James Bailey
I, um, I thought you might want this back."
I pull out the battered old teddy bear and hold it toward him. He frowns and shakes his head and doesn't reach for it, and I feel like he's punched me in the gut.
Then my baby brother slaps that damned bear out of my hand and crushes his face against my chest, and beneath the odors of sweat and strong soap I can smell it, his smell, Sammy's, my brother's. ~ Rick Yancey
Crushes quotes by Rick Yancey
Crushes are supposed to be fun, aren't they? They definitely aren't supposed to be so torturous. ~ Nina LaCour
Crushes quotes by Nina LaCour
William sees it all happen again. The pain is not in the event. The subjection to it and his powerless state each time is where his anguish lies. He is unable to influence the situation, despite his desire. He sees the nest outside his house. He sees the baby bird that fell. The mother bird cries frantically for her lost chick. William knows as he approaches the chick that if he touches it his scent will linger, and the mother will reject it. Circling around the fallen creature William hopes it will flee from him, back toward the tree from which it had fallen. His presence only intensifies the creature's fear. It speeds to his left, heading for the street. Again William tries to flank the bird, but it is too frightened to return to the nest. The chick's mother wails vainly. William walks into the street trying to herd the bird to safety. The stop light a block away has just turned green. The driver accelerates. William moves from the car's path and it runs over the bird. The momentum from its wake lifts the bird to the underside of the car, breaking its neck, but not killing it. William watches the bird roll helplessly. It is silent for a second, before it begins to whimper. Its contorted head dangles limply from its body. The noise is tragic. The bird's mother hears the chick's pain, but nothing can be done. She laments. A second speeder crushes the chick, leaving only a wet feathered spot in the street. As the cars continue to pass, only one bird is heard. A mother's grief ~ M.R. Gott
Crushes quotes by M.R. Gott
Most of those who died did not die of hunger but of hatred. Feeling hatred diminishes you. It eats at your from within and attacks the immune system. When you have hatred inside you, it always crushes you in the end. ~ Tahar Ben Jelloun
Crushes quotes by Tahar Ben Jelloun
Hema Malini and Nutan were my childhood crushes! I met Hemaji once when dad took me to the set of a film. Both these ladies stole my heart with their beauty and grace. ~ Rohit Shetty
Crushes quotes by Rohit Shetty
Our eyes see the future we desire
And if yearning is enough, turn blind entire
To any threats that challenge our hope.
Oh, how small indeed is Reality's scope. ~ Karl Kristian Flores
Crushes quotes by Karl Kristian Flores
[Harper'd] wondered briefly if those novels were making her set her standards too high. But then she'd realized that no, actually, what those stories had done was help her not confuse lust and crushes and simple attraction and I-kind-of-like-him with something deeper and more passionate. And they'd helped her decide to wait for the real thing. She knew what love looked like. It just hadn't come along for her. Yet. ~ Erin Nicholas
Crushes quotes by Erin Nicholas
I wondered if this longing in a three-year-old had sparked what came at eight. That fuzzy feeling of difference, that her crushes on female teachers or her cousin were more real than the other girls' crushes. Hers contained a desire beyond sweetness and attention, it fed a longing, beginning to flower green and yellow into a crocuslike lust, the soft petals opening into her awkward adolescence. It was not so much, she would write in her journal, that she wanted to have sex with women, but that she wanted to disappear inside of them forever. To hide. ~ Alice Sebold
