Any consideration of the story we call 'Cinderella' for simplicity's sake must acknowledge that 'Cinderella' has had a dizzying array of personae over hundreds of years, in several cultures. There is no one authoritative tale of 'Cinderella,' only a hall of mirrors with a different face in each reflection. ~ Marie Rutkoski
Uttermost Mirrors quotes by Marie Rutkoski
Cass Mastern lived for a few years and in that time he learned that the world is all of one piece. He learned that the world is like an enormous spider web and if you touch it, however lightly, at any point, the vibration ripples to the remotest perimeter and the drowsy spider feels the tingle and is drowsy no more but spring out to fling the gossamer coils about you who have touched the web and then inject the black, numbing poison under your hide. It does not matter whether or not you meant to brush the web of things. You happy foot or you gay wing may have brushed it ever so lightly, but what happens always happens and there is the spider, bearded black and with his great faceted eyes glittering like mirrors in the sun, or like God's eye, and the fangs dripping. ~ Robert Penn Warren
Uttermost Mirrors quotes by Robert Penn Warren
Outsiders always look for a reason to explain why they are not inside. They never look in the mirror. Let's face it, the profession I'm in is a very simple and a very cruel one. There is no way that you can create a career for someone without talent and no way to stop a career of someone with talent. ~ Isaac Stern
Uttermost Mirrors quotes by Isaac Stern
I want to be able to look at myself in the mirror and know I took everyone on. ~ Oscar De La Hoya
Uttermost Mirrors quotes by Oscar De La Hoya
I have never sought the unexpected, the novelty, the extraordinary, but rather what is most typical of our daily life ... I go out to find people who resemble me, and the mirror which these images offer them is the same as that in which I see myself. ~ Willy Ronis
Uttermost Mirrors quotes by Willy Ronis
The war was about vanity, he said. It was about old men who couldn't look in the mirror anymore and so they sent the young out to die. Was was a get-together of the vain. They wanted it simple
hate your enemy, know nothing of him. ~ Mccann Colum
Uttermost Mirrors quotes by Mccann Colum
I'd take a look at my own self in the mirror and wonder how it was possible that anybody could manage such an enormous thing as being what he was. ~ Ken Kesey
Uttermost Mirrors quotes by Ken Kesey
Water, whether still or in motion, has so great an attraction for the lover of nature, that the most beautiful landscape seems scarcely complete without it. There are no effects so fascinating as those produced by the reflexions in nature's living mirror, with their delicacy of form, ever fleeting and changing, and their subtle combinations of colour. ~ William Montagu-Pollock
Uttermost Mirrors quotes by William Montagu-Pollock
Customs and convictions change; respectable people are the last to know, or to admit, the change, and the ones most offended by fresh reflections of the facts in the mirror of art. ~ John Updike
Uttermost Mirrors quotes by John Updike
I think it was the first time in my life I ever felt like I looked "good". Do you know what I mean? That nice feeling when you look in the mirror, and your hair's right for the first time in your life? I don't think we should base so much on weight, muscles, and a good hair day, but when it happens, it's nice. It really is. ~ Stephen Chbosky
Uttermost Mirrors quotes by Stephen Chbosky
Perhaps it is impossible to understand one's own face. Or perhaps it is because I am a single man? People who live in society have learned how to see themselves in mirrors as they appear to their friends. I have no friends. Is that why my flesh is so naked? You might say
yes, you might say, nature without humanity. ~ Jean-Paul Sartre
Uttermost Mirrors quotes by Jean-Paul Sartre
The house, the pond, the tree - it was all both overwhelmingly familiar and different from what she remembered - smaller and shabbier, somehow. It was like waking up to find that your reflection in the mirror had aged overnight, or had sprouted a new mole: You were forced to admit that things changed, whether you gave them permission to or not. ~ Lauren Oliver
Uttermost Mirrors quotes by Lauren Oliver
BBC Radio is not so much an art or industry as it is a way of life ... a mirror that reflects ... the eccentricities, the looniness that make Britons slightly different from other humans. ~ Morley Safer
Uttermost Mirrors quotes by Morley Safer
I remember just before going onto the soundstage, I'd look in my dressing room mirror and stretch myself to my full 5'5 or 5'6 whatever it was-to make me appear taller and to make me able to dominate all the others and to mow them down with my size. ~ Edward G. Robinson
Uttermost Mirrors quotes by Edward G. Robinson
The authorities? The authorities?" I laughed. "Why is it people think the authorities are some form of gods with either great justice or great, cunning evil, rather than the same plodding fools they see in their daily lives, and most of all in their mirrors? ~ Richard Ben Sapir
Uttermost Mirrors quotes by Richard Ben Sapir
Apologies aren't something you want to get in the habit of practicing in the mirror ~ Jonathan Lethem
Uttermost Mirrors quotes by Jonathan Lethem
There is a double rhythm in all human beings. We are binary beings - two arms, two legs, two eyes, two ears. Two legs for walking. And the heartbeat thumping in our chest mirrors that. ~ Paul Auster
Uttermost Mirrors quotes by Paul Auster
Every creature is a glittering, glistening mirror of Divinity. ~ Hildegard Of Bingen
Uttermost Mirrors quotes by Hildegard Of Bingen
A war raged between my jokey and protective brain and my squishy and tender heart. I have realized that mystery is what keeps people away, and I've grown tired of smoke and mirrors. I yearn for the clean, well-lighted place. ~ Amy Poehler
Uttermost Mirrors quotes by Amy Poehler
The one who has a good friend doesn't need any mirror. ~ Rumi
Uttermost Mirrors quotes by Rumi
I am a fragment of a mirror whose whole design and shape I do not know. Nevertheless, with what I have - I can reflect light into the dark places of this world - into the black places in the hearts of men - and change somethings in some people. Perhaps others may see and do likewise. This is what I am about. This is the meaning of my life. ~ Robert Fulghum
Uttermost Mirrors quotes by Robert Fulghum
There's this truth about mirrors. It's inescapable. But they can lie, too. They can distort the truth, even hide the truth. They create illusion. ~ Jodi Meadows
Uttermost Mirrors quotes by Jodi Meadows
Honesty towards yourself. Looking into your mirror, any time all the time will guide. ~ Jacob Gelt Dekker
Uttermost Mirrors quotes by Jacob Gelt Dekker
She was in a terrible marriage and she couldn't talk to anyone. He used to hit her, and in the beginning she told him that if it ever happened again, she would leave him. He swore that it wouldn't and she believed him. But it only got worse after that, like when his dinner was cold, or when she mentioned that she'd visited with one of the neighbors who was walking by with his dog. She just chatted with him, but that night, her husband threw her into a mirror. ~ Nicholas Sparks
Uttermost Mirrors quotes by Nicholas Sparks
I decided to lock myself in. A forced segregation. Sabbatical. A retreat into myself. My selves. Play hide and go seek in the looking-glass. The mirror angled at the foot of my bed. Twisted reflections bouncing off into infinity. Obsessed with my image, the myriad of distored figurines who danced in front of me in rapid succession, every feature exaggerated, every slight imperfection a new delicacy. ~ Lydia Lunch
Uttermost Mirrors quotes by Lydia Lunch
I set my toothbrush down, then leaned into the mirror and stared into my own eyes. I could feel myself disintegrating inside myself like a past-bloom flower in the wind. Every time I moved a muscle, another petal of me blew away. Please, I thought. Please. ~ Cheryl Strayed
Uttermost Mirrors quotes by Cheryl Strayed
I used to hate looking in the mirror. I've grown up into myself and now I'm happy with the way I look. ~ Ashley Tisdale
Uttermost Mirrors quotes by Ashley Tisdale
Michelangelo's girlfriend, who said to Angelo, Forget the paint - let's put a mirror on the ceiling. Never got a dinner! ~ Red Buttons
Uttermost Mirrors quotes by Red Buttons
Self-revelation is a cruel process. The real picture, the real you never emerges. Looking for it is as bewildering as trying to know how you really look. Ten different mirrors show you ten different faces. ~ Shashi Deshpande
Uttermost Mirrors quotes by Shashi Deshpande
Anything in the entertainment business, there's sharks coming around. It's about staying true to yourself and making sure that, when you look in the mirror, you're happy with what you see. ~ O'Shea Jackson, Jr.
Uttermost Mirrors quotes by O'Shea Jackson, Jr.
Perhaps we will one day be able at least to admit of a God possessing sufficient majesty and expansiveness to transcend the limits of our own imaginations and experience. But meanwhile, ... we might do well to look upon the inadequacy of our concepts of God as the truest mirror of those limitations that define our condition. ~ Ian Tattersall
Uttermost Mirrors quotes by Ian Tattersall
Was a mirror that existed only in a mirror not just as real as its original? It fulfilled its role just as well as its counterpart - it reflected. Merle couldn't think of anything else that was able to do this: to do something without itself being. For the first time, she asked herself whether all mirrors were not always magic mirrors. "Mirrors can see," Arcimboldo had said. Now she believed him. ~ Kai Meyer
Uttermost Mirrors quotes by Kai Meyer
I can lip read, so I know what other people are saying about me - especially when I clock them in my rear view mirror ... ~ Max Beesley
Uttermost Mirrors quotes by Max Beesley
The thing about the Mirror is that no one knows where it is. In fact, no one knows what it is."
"It's a mirror," Simon said. "You know – reflective, glass. I'm just assuming. ~ Cassandra Clare
Uttermost Mirrors quotes by Cassandra Clare
When you look in the mirror and say, 'I love you,' don't worry if you don't believe it yet. Love is far more powerful than your limiting beliefs. ~ Cheryl Richardson
Uttermost Mirrors quotes by Cheryl Richardson
We are called to be strong companions and clear mirrors to one another, to seek those who reflect with compassion and a keen eye how we are doing, whether we seem centered or off course ... we need the nourishing company of others to create the circle needed for growth, freedom and healing. ~ Wayne Muller
Uttermost Mirrors quotes by Wayne Muller
Sexuality and sensuality are completely different things. Sensuality is something that you're born with. But sexuality is something I leave for my own mirror. ~ Ricky Martin
Uttermost Mirrors quotes by Ricky Martin
It was strange to stand there in front of the mirror and see myself like I was my own best friend, a kid wanted to hang with forever. This was a boy I could travel to the seacoasts with, a boy I'd like to meet up with in foreign cities like Calcutta and London and Brazil, a boy I could trust who also had a good sense of humor and liked smoked oysters from a can and good weed and the occasional 40 ounces of malt. If I was going to be alone for the rest of my life this was the person I wanted to be alone with. ~ Russell Banks
Uttermost Mirrors quotes by Russell Banks
Admiring yourself?" The Inquisitor's voice but through his reverie. "You wont look so pretty when the Clave gets through with you."
"You do seem obsessed with my looks." Jace turned away from the mirror with some relief. "Could it be that all this is because you're attracted to me? ~ Cassandra Clare
Uttermost Mirrors quotes by Cassandra Clare
The viewpoint character in each story is usually someone trapped in a living nightmare, but this doesn't guarantee that we and the protagonist are at one. In fact Woolrich often makes us pull away from the person at the center of the storm, splitting our reaction in two, stripping his protagonist of moral authority, denying us the luxury of unequivocal identification, drawing characters so psychologically warped and sometimes so despicable that a part of us wants to see them suffer. Woolrich also denies us the luxury of total disidentification with all sorts of sociopaths, especially those who wear badges. His Noir Cop tales are crammed with acts of police sadism, casually committed or at least endorsed by the detective protagonist. These monstrosities are explicitly condemned almost never and the moral outrage we feel has no internal support in the stories except the objective horror of what is shown, so that one might almost believe that a part of Woolrich wants us to enjoy the spectacles. If so, it's yet another instance of how his most powerful novels and stories are divided against themselves so as to evoke in us a divided response that mirrors his own self-division.

("Introduction") ~ Francis M. Nevins Jr.
Uttermost Mirrors quotes by Francis M. Nevins Jr.
There are no windows within the dark house of depression through which to see others, only mirrors. ~ Miriam Toews
Uttermost Mirrors quotes by Miriam Toews
The visible is always a mirror of the invisible. The reality is imagined before it manifests itself. ~ Paulo Coelho
Uttermost Mirrors quotes by Paulo Coelho
And among them their satellites, on one of which is a part of nature that mirrors nature in itself, ~ A.C. Grayling
Uttermost Mirrors quotes by A.C. Grayling
